Summer jobs abroad offer chances to explore new destinations during the sunniest months, supplementing sea and sand with friendships and experiences.

These roles are perfect for those seeking a change of scenery, whether students on summer break from university or even those looking at getting away from your standard 9-5. Whoever you may be, summer jobs abroad are the perfect vehicle for change.

These summer opportunities embody 'work hard, play hard'. You'll face challenges in your role, whether at  summer camps , in  hospitality roles , or  teaching English  in classrooms. But each challenge overcome will make the incredible, life-changing experiences even sweeter, and your impact will last long beyond when the summer sun sets.

Can I stay longer than just the summer?

Certain visas will only allow you to work for your contract length, so speak to the relevant team for more info. However, should you go on a working holiday visa or the IEC in Canada , these will allow you longer stays of 12 months or more, meaning you can do an entire year at a destination.

Which countries are the best for summer jobs abroad?

America has long been the ‘original’ summer work and travel destination, but it’s certainly not the only one. Its neighbour, Canada , with its stunning environment and friendly locals, is just as appealing, whereas Asia is home to many destinations with summer jobs abroad.

What types of summer jobs abroad can I get?

The summer jobs abroad depend on your background. Summer camp starts in the summer, so there are countless summer jobs overseas for activity specialists and counsellors. Hospitality jobs are also everywhere for those who want to work at resorts in the summer, so the choice is yours.

Where can I get summer jobs overseas?

Summer jobs overseas get advertised a lot from the start of the year as destinations begin recruiting ahead of the season. As children go on school break or the weather gets nicer, there’s a huge demand for summer camp staff globally, so you’ll never be short of new destinations to try.

Working in a foreign country offers many different eye-opening cultural experiences.

Opportunities to practice a foreign language in its native land, learn the skills of independent living and gain eye-opening cultural experiences can have a huge impact on your path to adulthood, and even on your future career.

There is a way to have it all: by securing summer employment abroad .

High school summer jobs abroad FAQs

Why not just get a summer job in the u.s..

A meaningful travel experience at a young age can ignite unknown passions for new subjects, career paths, or simply a desire to travel even more.

Enjoying this kind of life-changing event before you finish high school can help you secure future travel opportunities, perhaps encouraging you to plan a gap year between high school and college .

You may decide to pursue a semester (or more) of collegiate study abroad, participate in an exchange program or even explore online high school options, where you can stay on track to complete your high school diploma with an accredited online school.

For some American high school students, completing their education through an online school has made the balance between academic success and a life filled with travel possible. At the very least, living and working abroad while still in high school should give you some great material for your college application essays !

What qualifications do I need to work abroad in high school?

Passports: Most travel outside of the United States will require a passport. For anyone under the age of 16, applying for a passport requires a few extra forms and signatures from your parents or legal guardian(s). This type of passport is only valid for five years and costs about $105. Applicants age 16 and 17 usually need to apply in person at a passport acceptance facility . However, the passport issued will still be valid for 10 years like adults over the age of 18.

The processing time it takes from application to receipt of a passport can vary. The standard turnaround time ranges from four to six weeks and costs $135. Expedited processing — door to door in two to three weeks — costs an additional $60.

The U.S. State Department’s passport information is pretty easy to navigate on their website and can help you anticipate costs, locate the appropriate forms, and follow recommended preparations using a travel checklist.

Work Visa: Eligibility for paid work in a foreign country generally requires both a passport and a work visa. There are several types of visas, like limited visas for charitable work, but most often, a paid position will require sponsorship from an employer. That means you’ll have to plan ahead and do some legwork to land a job before you land on foreign soil.

[ Download our expert guide on how to get the visa you need ]

TEFL Certification: If you want to teach English abroad — paid or unpaid — you may want to check out a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification program. While certificates are offered by many universities and online institutions, the training itself is often tailored to where you intend to teach, making the origin of your certificate important to potential summer employers.

GoAbroad is one place to start looking into TEFL programs if you want this certification.

What are the differences in unpaid vs. paid summer jobs abroad for high school students?

Unpaid Summer Jobs: Unpaid job opportunities for high school students will be easier to come by and may not always require a work visa and sponsorship. Unpaid internships are still quite competitive because of the official sponsorship, but roles like teaching English as a foreign language are always increasing in demand.

If you’re big into history, consider something a bit off the beaten path, like an archaeological dig. You’ll spend your summer on an excavation site sifting through a ton of dirt, but learning loads about history and honing your excavation techniques.

Most volunteering mission trips require little to no experience or qualifications and can be easily organized by a type of agency. Though you will need to pay for travel expenses and will not earn any money, it is probably one of the easiest and most inexpensive opportunities for teen summer travel.

Paid Summer Jobs: Since paid opportunities almost always require a work visa and employer sponsorship, the competition for summer jobs abroad can be fierce! However, with advance preparation, you stand a better chance of securing employer sponsorship abroad for the summer. Some fee-based support agencies can help you find your footing with sponsorship and housing, and even special job application services (but not actual job placement).

Other paid job opportunities that are less competitive, but still require advanced planning and coordination with placement agencies, non-profits, or employment agencies, include:

  • Au pair —Be forewarned, the demand for male au pairs is nearly nonexistent.
  • Manual labor —Agricultural work lets you experience foreign culture in a way most people never do, even the locals.
  • Theme parks —If you already speak the native language, theme parks can be great summertime employers and are open to hiring international students for the summer.
  • Summer camps —Many countries have summer camps similar to the U.S. and will hire international students, especially at camps centered around learning and practicing English.

Don’t forget to visit the historic and cultural sites that make your destination of choice unique.

Any other pieces of advice?

  • Get your required documents in order. Getting your fundamentals in order first will make the rest of planning easier. Follow this travel checklist from the U.S. State Department to make sure you have the basics covered so that your other efforts aren’t in vain.
  • Organize your shelter/home/accommodations abroad. Whatever your plans are, you’ll likely need to play a role in securing a spot to sleep at night. Thinking through this part of the logistics first will help make your summer job planning much smoother. If you have family or friends who are permanent residents in another country, that’s a great starting point to begin your quest for a summer job. Couch-surfing for a summer can significantly reduce the cost of being away from home, and it also gives you a specific geographic region to focus your job search efforts. Alternately, there are agencies that in facilitating work experiences abroad. These services can include housing, although stopping short of job placement. Finding the right partner to help you sift through the bureaucratic morass of international relocation can be instrumental in making your summer job abroad dreams a reality.
  • Rock your job applications. You’ll never get a summer job abroad if you don’t apply! Start by figuring out what shelter options are available to you, how long you want to be abroad, and what you can afford to pay for room and board (if anything). This will help you narrow the field of your job search and improve your odds of landing the dream summer job abroad .

Summer Camp Jobs Abroad: 2023 Guide

Updated: August, 2022.

Imagine a job where you could live, work and play in the great outdoors. Summer camp jobs might just be the best jobs in the world. Get paid to go on active adventures, make new friends, learn valuable life skills and become a child’s hero.

But why stop there?

Work at a summer camp abroad and get paid to see the world. And for the cream of the crop, you really can’t beat the UK. Our UK Camps Program is now taking applications for 2023 summer camps, and if this sounds like your cup of tea, read on to discover all you need to know about how Canadians can work in the UK, residential summer camp jobs and travelling across this delightfully diverse continent.

Reasons to Pick a Summer Camp Job Abroad

First things first, why work at a summer camp? Camp jobs enable you to develop a whole roster of valuable life skills. No day is ever the same and you will get the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, fun environment, develop leadership skills, network and build a community. Working at a summer camp abroad in the UK also brings a whole heap of additional benefits. On our UK Camp Program, you’ll receive:

  • Guaranteed 2023 camp job placement
  • Work and travel across the UK, with 11 different camps catering to every interest
  • Save money! Living costs are included which means you can save for travel after your contract
  • Make friends from all over the world
  • Option to return for a second-year contract

I want a camp job!

Why Summer Camp Jobs in the UK are the best

Don’t be fooled by the UK’s small size – it fits into Canada 41 times – this island nation carries a serious punch. While it’s hard to narrow down a list of highlights, any visit should include scouring the streets of London, a city so rich in history, attractions, events and restaurants (the list goes on), that multiple trips are a necessity.

Party in Manchester, step back in time in Edinburgh and drink Guinness in Belfast. Rent a car and take the scenic route to explore quaint countryside villages, feast on fish and chips wrapped in newspaper in sleepy seaside towns; explore ancient castles, Roman ruins and mysterious monuments (we’re looking at you, Stonehenge) and book a festival or two for the summer – the UK boasts some of the best music festivals in the world.

Need to save up some cash for all that exploration? Camp jobs run from February to November, and we can arrange for you to start working the moment you land, giving you the flexibility to work earlier (and later) in the year if you’re keen to save some dosh (Brit slang for money) for some summer adventures.

How Canadians Can Work in the UK

Great, so you’ve decided to work in the UK. Now you’ll need to get a UK Working Holiday Visa, otherwise known as the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa. This is a work permit that allows Canadians to live and work in the UK – including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – for up to two years. The whole process can be quite complicated, but don’t be put off. You can discover more about the process in our UK Working Holiday Visa guide , and we can provide step-by-step work visa application assistance and help you get set up for living in the UK (we’ll even get you a SIM card).

UK Summer Camp Job Requirements

Working at a summer camp is one of the best outdoor adventure jobs in the UK. Fancy leading trips to kayak, climb, hike, and swim (the list goes on) the UK’s most iconic countryside landscapes? Receive paid training to become an activity instructor (insider tip: these roles fill up fast, so we encourage you to get in touch to secure your spot).

There’s also a plethora of other roles to suit every interest, experience level and schedule. For camp job placement, you will need to be the following:

  • Canadian citizen between 18 and 30 with a valid passport
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip
  • No criminal record and in good health
  • You are energetic and fun, and enjoy working with kids!
  • Available for a minimum work term of three months

Residential Summer Camp Locations

There are 11 different camps across the UK to choose from, each with unique characteristics. Stay in remote countryside mansions nestled in woodland, lake and seaside settings. All camps are within a train or car ride to major urban centres, so you can have the best of both worlds.

You’ll be working with local school groups and for adventure holidays for children all over Europe. Each camp features several activity centres, which, depending on the location, will be equipped with climbing walls, zip-lining, canoeing, kayaking, soccer fields, BBQ areas and so much more.

2023 Camp Job Roles

There are a variety of different jobs available at each camp, with the most popular being the Activity Coordinator, Retail Assistant and Cooking positions. Most of the roles don’t require qualifications, and you’ll receive paid training on the job, so it’s a win, win situation.

  • Activity Coordinators – share your love of sports and the great outdoors by organizing and leading activities. No day is ever the same and you’ll be providing entertainment and ensuring groups have a great stay at the camp.
  • Retail Assistant – whether working in a shop or a bar, this role is all about providing excellent customer service.
  • Cooking – passionate foodie? Gain valuable skills to get you prepped for the catering industry, from assisting in food preparation to serving and ensuring the kitchen and dining areas are kept clean.

Camp staff work seven to eight hours a day, five or six days a week. On your days off there are plenty of opportunities to explore, whether paddling, climbing or hiking the local wilderness, or heading to the local town. You’ll build up vacation time each week, which you can accumulate to plan trips to destinations further afield.

Sold on the UK for your summer camp job abroad? We don’t blame you – it’s great.

2023 summer camp job applications are now open for our UK Camps Program. Our most sought-after positions tend to fill up quickly, so what are you waiting for?

Wages across Europe vary depending on the role and the country you are working in, meaning you should put time into researching how much a specific opportunity would line your pockets, alongside researching living costs of the country to make sure your wage will actually support your new lifestyle. Teaching English abroad can be a great source of income for those wanting to spend their summer abroad, especially for those who already have a TEFL certificate. Short-term summer opportunities can primarily be found at summer schools or camps, which also come with the added benefit of getting to join in with all the fun camp activities!

If you don’t feel as though teaching English is for you, hospitality work is another great paying alternative that can take you all over Europe this summer. It tends to be easier to land a job if you have some experience, and speak a little of the language of the country where you will be working, as you will need to converse with customers – you will reap the benefits in this fun, relaxed job that comes with the possibility of tips! There are numerous hospitality roles to suit your experience, and often companies hire seasonal workers in groups so you will have the chance to meet people from all over the world who share your adventure loving mindset.

Resort work around Europe is a great way to immerse yourself in the holiday vibe, as you are surrounded by holiday-makers and those working to experience new countries like you. Resorts offer a variety of summer jobs in Europe, from entertainers to cleaners to bar staff to receptionists, meaning wherever your skills lie you are sure to find a role that is the perfect fit for you. There is also the added benefit that resorts have great facilities that staff often have full access to, in beautiful locations, so a trip to the beach after work is always a possibility!

Another great option for those looking for summer jobs in Europe is to work at a summer camp, where there is the opportunity to work as a camp counsellor supervising and arranging fun activities (that you also get to participate in!) for the campers. Working at a summer camp also means that you will meet like-minded colleagues, and as food and accommodation are included as you live on-sight, you can save what you earn which can fund your travelling adventures once camp is over!

There are countless other summer jobs in Europe available, so if you want the summer of a lifetime, what are you waiting for? Check out and apply for available roles on our site and start your new adventure!

6 Great Summer Jobs for Students Who Want to Travel

For students looking to work and travel this summer, consider these six job opportunities! Plus, read on for tips on managing your finances while traveling.

How common is it to work as a college student? According to the US Department of Commerce, 43% of full-time undergraduates worked while enrolled in school during 2018. But if you don’t want to work while attending classes, having a summer job could be a great alternative. These jobs don’t typically interfere with your school schedule, and many of them offer different travel opportunities. If you want a summer job and like to travel, here are some employment options to keep in mind.

Do you like kids? If so, you might find a position as an au pair appealing. Au pairs are typically live-in caretakers who are assigned to a family abroad to help care for their children. In exchange, they often receive free lodging and meals as well as free days and pocket money. Au pair opportunities can be found through sites like AuPair.com .

2. English teacher

Wondering what to do as an English major ? Teach English! You don’t actually have to be an English major to teach English, but it doesn’t hurt. There are loads of opportunities to teach English worldwide, including in Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Teaching English is also a great way to connect with people from other cultures. For helpful resources, check out TEFL.org .

3. Cruise ship staff

Cruise ships are like small, floating cities that travel from port to port, and they require plenty of workers to keep everything running smoothly. If you’re interested in seeing different parts of the world and having a unique experience, the cruise life might make sense for you. Find positions on job boards such as All Cruise Jobs , or visit specific cruise line sites, including Carnival and Disney Cruise Line .

4. Government paid internships

Not every summer job involving travel has to take you outside the country. Potential opportunities could include working with the National Parks Service, Department of Commerce, and more. You might even be able to turn your internship into a job if it’s something you want to pursue after graduation. If you’re interested in a paid internship with one of the many branches of the US government, search for positions on USAJobs.gov .

5. Camp counselor

Camps are often an opportunity for kids of all ages to learn skills, make new friends, and have loads of fun during summer vacation. But these camps don’t function on their own—you need a small army of employees to manage activities, teach classes, and prepare meals. For help finding summer camp jobs, check out the American Camp Association .

6. Alarm technician

Not many summer jobs offer opportunities to make tens of thousands of dollars in just three to four months, but companies such as Vivint employ hundreds of students every summer for door-to-door sales where you can make this and more. Positions are often available in different areas of the country, including cities such as New York, Dallas, and Las Vegas. If you want to avoid knocking on doors, consider being an installation technician instead. You’ll likely have long days and hours (you might be on call six days a week), but you’ll have the opportunity to explore a new city and make some cash.

Tips for handling your money while traveling

Traveling can bring up different financial situations and worries you may not be used to. If you plan to take a summer job that involves traveling, consider these tips to be financially prepared:

  • Use travel credit cards. Does your credit card work in other countries? Do you have to pay a fee to make foreign purchases? The best travel credit cards typically come with no foreign transaction fees, and many of them will function in most countries worldwide.
  • Have a debit card with no international ATM fees. Does your bank have fees for making withdrawals in foreign locations? Choose a bank with no international ATM fees to help reduce your potential costs while traveling.
  • Use online banks. It’s possible your bank might not have in-person branches in another country or state, but an online bank can typically help you manage your money from anywhere.
  • Save up money with a side hustle. Costs for food, lodging, activities, utilities, transportation, and more need to be considered for a travel-related summer job. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to make extra money during the school year so you can pad your bank account before you travel.
  • Research job opportunities. Not every summer job will offer the same pay, experience, or included perks. If you want to find a job that suits you, take advantage of all the job search resources out there. Internet job boards are your friend, but also consider directly reaching out to companies you’re interested in.

Working while you’re in school is common, but not all jobs have to be done while you’re taking classes. Certain summer jobs offer opportunities to make money and get some travel in at the same time. If you’re considering a summer job that requires a temporary relocation, remember to get your finances in order beforehand.

High School Class of 2021

CollegeXpress has helped me find scholarships to apply for and look into more colleges. While there are many websites similar to CollegeXpress, every website is different, and I've found a lot of good insight on this website. Receiving emails from CollegeXpress about scholarships is extremely useful, and getting insight about colleges near, far, and anywhere in between helps me narrow down my choices to what I want, which is also super helpful. The articles are always really good reads, and I can't stress enough how helpful this website has been to me. Anything related to college is beneficial to me as a senior, and I have learned lots of useful things to help me on my college journey this year.

Samantha Fils-Aime

High School Class of 2019

I love that CollegeXpress has helped me find some scholarships to apply for but also helped me succeed in school with lots of tips. I also really like how they consistently email me about webinars that teach me a lot of things from the comfort of my home!

High School Class of 2023

I’m currently a college freshman attending Towson University. My major is Information Technology, and I plan to minor in Electronic Media & Film to achieve my goal of becoming a production engineer. Upon graduating high school earlier this year, I was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from CollegeXpress, which greatly assisted in paying my tuition. Truthfully, this financial reward was the difference in affording my room and board and tuition, along with other expenses for school. My family and I haven’t stopped celebrating my award since it was bestowed on me. I will never forget this opportunity for allowing me to get my foot into my university financially.

Sonny Harris

College Student

For the entire year before college, I spent a lot of time deeply considering what major I wanted to go into and how to fund my higher education. After a lot of research, I came across CollegeXpress, which helped me ultimately find a ton of scholarships for which I could apply—and some of which I received! If it weren’t for CollegeXpress, I may not have found those scholarships as they didn't appear on any other scholarship search forum. Additionally, I learned more about the options I had been considering for my major through CollegeXpress’s resources. In the end, I chose to major in Computer Science, as it seemed best suited to me and the careers in the field seemed enjoyable, and I've never been more excited to move into my future! Ultimately, I want to thank CollegeXpress for offering their services. I received enough financial aid in scholarships to fund my entire freshman year of college and even got some money refunded which I used to purchase a new laptop, and I bought all of the books I needed for the semester!

College is a way of life that helps us find out who we are as a person, and CollegeXpress is a great way to stay connected with our future, even for students with little time on their hands due to the challenges of high school we face.

Charles Neville, with JayWay Travel , a specialist European custom tour provider, recommends Albania for food lovers.

He says, "Expect exceptional local produce and abundant fresh fish and seafood from the Adriatic and Ionian seas, combined with hearty traditional meat dishes, and more-than-decent local wine. Hotels work out to less than half what you'd pay for an equivalent property in western Europe."

Alex Gillard, the founder of Nomad Nature Travel , also raves about Albania, calling it "a great, relatively undiscovered country to visit as an American tourist."

He adds, "Depending on the season, you can get a 500 to 600 dollar round-trip flight. I've spent months in Albania and it is very safe, the food is an affordable and incredible mix of Greek, Italian and local fare, and you can rent a car and get around their beautiful country for very cheap."

Andy Turlington, owner and travel advisor at Wildest Dreams Bookings in North Carolina, recommends Cuba, which is a short flight from Florida -- only about 100 miles from Key West.

"Cuba [has] interesting architecture, and the cars are a step back in time. Hotels in Havana start at about 50 U.S. dollars per night, but they have an Airbnb equivalent called 'Casa Particulars,' and many of them can be had for roughly 30 U.S. dollars per night."

<p>"Cuenca, Ecuador is a great, affordable, and interesting place to live, especially if you want to practice Spanish," said <a href="http://intentionaltravelers.com" rel="noreferrer noopener">Michelle Chang</a>, an entrepreneur and travel blogger. "It's also not so exciting as to be distracting from getting work done."</p> <p>Living on a shoestring budget is easy in Cuenca. </p> <p>"Ecuador uses the US dollar, but the cost of living is less than half and so far, their inflation rate has remained below ours," Chang said.</p>

This South American country is also extremely affordable. Turlington says, "You can easily get by in this country on about 30 to 50 U.S. dollars a day."

He especially recommends the capital city of Quito, where meals can usually be had for less than five U.S. dollars. Additionally, a taxi will cost about two dollars "to pretty much anywhere," and the bus costs about 35 cents. "Hotels can easily be had for less than 35 U.S. dollars a night, and for the ultra-cheap, they have plenty of hostels as well for about 10 U.S. dollars."

<p>A country that's super affordable for an American tourist is Panama, according to Becca Siegel and Dan Gold, owners of the travel blog <a href="https://www.halfhalftravel.com/" rel="noreferrer noopener">HalfHalfTravel.com</a>. "The reason is that flights are often cheap from major hubs, especially if you can fly to Miami first, or through Miami with a short layover."</p> <p>Once you land in Panama, they say that food, tours and accommodation are extremely affordable. "In Panama City alone, you can go walking in Casco Viejo, see the Panama Canal, excellent museums and experience great nightlife and culture."</p> <p>An extra bonus is that Panama uses the U.S. Dollar, so you won't have to do any currency exchanges, which they say is "super convenient for lots of American visitors."</p>

<p>South Africa isn’t often mentioned as one of the most tax-unfriendly nations in the world, but perhaps it’s being overlooked. Located at the very bottom of Africa’s continent, this country known for its safaris, minerals and beautiful landscapes taxes its citizens 45% on the high end, with corporations paying a flat 28% tax, regardless of industry. Overall, taxes contribute 27% to South Africa’s GDP. </p>

South Africa

Todd Sarouhan, owner of Go Visit San Diego and Go Visit Costa Rica, recommends Cape Town, South Africa for an affordable travel experience.

He says, "The most affordable countries are the ones where the exchange rate is in favor of the US Dollar. Cape Town is no stranger to being voted the best city in the world, the last time and for the seventh time running in 2019. Cape Town is a coastal gem, lying in the shadow of a cloud-hugged mountain where wine flows, penguins waddle and there's always something to do."

<p>While everyone has fantasies about retiring at age 40 or 50, the reality is that few people can afford this luxury, thanks in part to longer life expectancies. No matter how large your nest egg might be — or how frugal your lifestyle — retiring too early can ruin your well-laid financial plans and affect your quality of life down the line.</p>

Turkey is a great option for tourists wanting to go to Europe, Turlington says. "The lira has been greatly depreciated over the last 2 years or so, making Turkey a bargain hunter's paradise."

Istanbul offers some incredible cuisine, and plenty of historical locations and different architecture and religious sites. Istanbul has copious amounts of good hotels in the 50 US Dollar range as well. Armenia and Georgia are also lower cost options in this area of Europe.

New analysis highlights the value of foreign tourism in Greenland

Press release: Nuuk, 18 April 2024

summer travel jobs 2023

In recent years, foreign tourism in Greenland has become an increasingly important part of the country’s economy. In line with this, there is an increased need for solid data and documentation that can support both economic growth in the sector and sustainable development in the area.

In the summer of 2023, eight key players in tourism and society came together to produce an in-depth analysis of the economic impact of foreign tourism in Greenland. Among those involved were Air Greenland, Kalaallit Airports, Bank of Greenland, Bank of Greenland Business Fund, Nalik Ventures, AECO – Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators, Sikuki Nuuk Harbour and Visit Greenland.

Partners believe facts and knowledge are essential for making informed decisions about future priorities and investments, which applies to political decisions and those that happen at the company level. With the prospect of new international airports and a new sector plan for the tourism sector, they want to take joint responsibility for contributing insights that can set the framework for promoting sustainable tourism in and for Greenland.

“A nuanced understanding of foreign tourism’s contribution to the national economy is essential to predict the effects of new investments and decisions. At the same time, we must have a common understanding of the socio-economic benefits tourism currently contributes to Greenland so that together, we can set goals for the economic role we want tourism to play in the country’s future. With the publication of this analysis, it is our common wish to contribute to a fact-based debate on tourism while recognizing the tourism sector as a significant socio-economic contributor,” says Visit Greenland’s CEO, Anne Nivíka Grødem.

The main results from the analysis show the following:

In 2023, foreign tourism contributed with revenue to Greenland of almost DKK 1.9 billion.

Foreign tourism amounted to a gross added value of DKK 1.2 billion, direct taxes of DKK 48 million and duties of DKK 87 billion in 2023.

Foreign tourism directly accounted for 1,075 jobs.

A comprehensive list of 2023 & 2024 tech layoffs

From major layoffs at tesla, amazon and microsoft to small fintech startups and apps.

summer travel jobs 2023

The tech-wide reckoning that began in 2022  and ran throughout into 2023 has continued into this year. And while 2024’s losses are not at that scale, they’re still significant, driven by big names like Pixar , Google , Microsoft , Mozilla and TikTok . It remains to be seen if this year’s layoff trends follow last year’s, in which layoffs slowed down in the summer, before cuts began ramping up yet again toward the winter .

Momentum for a tech sector rebound remains slow to build, outside of bright spots within artificial intelligence and adjacent companies, resulting in tech companies continuing to cut back on their workforces and pivot from a growth mindset to one based on efficiency in the face of stubborn market conditions.

But tracking these layoffs helps us to understand the impact on innovation, which companies are facing tough pressures and who is available to hire for the businesses lucky to be growing right now. Unfortunately, it also serves as a reminder of the deeply human impact of layoffs and how risk profiles could evolve from here .

Below you’ll find a comprehensive list of all the known layoffs in tech that started last year, to be updated monthly. If you have a tip on a layoff, contact us here . If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact us here .

The final total of layoffs for 2023 ended up being 262,735, according to Layoffs.fyi . Tech layoffs conducted in 2023 were 59% higher than 2022’s total, according to the data in the tracker. And 2024 is off to a rough start despite not reaching the peak of last year’s first quarter cutbacks.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrostal attractions photo with description

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
