Where is Om Parvat located?

Om Parvat is located in the Dharchula region of Uttarakhand, India, near the India-Nepal border. It is situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, in the eastern part of the state. The exact coordinates of Om Parvat are approximately 30.9988°N latitude and 80.2978°E longitude. The region is known for its stunning natural beauty and is a popular destination for trekkers and spiritual seekers.

How difficult is the trek to Om Parvat?

The trek to Om Parvat is considered moderately difficult. It involves traversing rugged terrains, dense forests, and steep ascents, which require a moderate level of physical fitness and endurance. The trekking path is not as challenging as some other high-altitude treks in the Himalayas, but it still requires preparation and proper trekking gear.

One of the main challenges of the trek is the altitude gain. Om Parvat is situated at an elevation of around 6,191 meters (20,308 feet), which can cause altitude-related issues such as altitude sickness. Adequate acclimatization and a gradual ascent are crucial to minimizing the risk of altitude sickness.

The trek usually starts from the village of Dharchula and passes through various villages and scenic landscapes. The duration of the trek can vary depending on the chosen route and the pace of the trekker, but it generally takes around 10 to 12 days to complete the entire circuit.

It is recommended to trek with an experienced guide or join a guided tour to ensure safety, proper navigation, and logistical support. Prior trekking experience and physical fitness training are beneficial for a more enjoyable and comfortable trek to Om Parvat.

What is the best time to visit Om Parvat?

The best time to visit Om Parvat is during the summer months of May to June and September to October. These periods offer relatively stable weather conditions and better accessibility to the trekking routes.

In May and June, the weather is generally pleasant with clear skies, making it ideal for trekking and enjoying the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The temperatures during this time are moderate, ranging from cool to mildly warm at lower elevations.

September to October is another favorable time to visit Om Parvat. The monsoon season is over, and the weather becomes more stable. The landscapes are lush and green after the rains, providing a picturesque backdrop for the trek. The temperatures start to cool down, creating a comfortable environment for trekking.

It is important to note that weather conditions in the mountains can be unpredictable, and it is advisable to check the local weather forecast before planning your visit. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid the winter months due to heavy snowfall and extremely cold temperatures, which can make the trekking routes inaccessible and more challenging.

About Adi Kailash Trek & Om Parvat Yatra

The regions of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat are filled with wildflowers, fruits, stunning waterfalls, and dense forests where the passion of trekking overflows and increases the sense of spirituality. Adi Kailash and Om Parvat are considered sacred pilgrimage destinations for Hindus as Adi Kailash is said to be one of the Panch Kailash according to Hindu mythology. People believe that it is the exact replication of Mount Kailash. This mesmerising holy mountain is home to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The Adi Kailash is known by the name ‘Chota Kailash’ or ‘Little Kailash’ and resides in the last village of India, Kuti. The Kuti village is located in the Kumaon region of India and is found in the borders of the Indo-Tibetan region. The Adi Kailash is situated in the Darchula district of Uttarakhand and is 5,945 metres above sea level.

Kuti village was named after Mata Kunti. According to tales, the most significant characters of Mahabharata are related to this region. Mata Kunti who is the mother of Pancha Pandavas passed this region during their walk to heaven. The trekkers and pilgrims can get to see the ruins of the Pandav fort here in Kuti. The locals here believe that Adi Kailash is the abode of Baba Kailash, who lives here with his family, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. The Adi Kailash Yatra and Om Parvat Yatra provide inner self enlightenment to the visitors here as this holy place is a significance of immense power and self purification. After visiting Adi Kailash, visitors offer prayers at Shiva Temple.

The Adi Kailash Yatra starts from Haldwani and proceeds via Patalbhubneshwar, Dharchula, Kalapani, Kuti and then Nabidhang where the Om Parvat is located and proceeding back to Pithoragarh and finally returning to Haldwani. People on their way to visit Om Parvat will pass through the Kali Temple at Kalapani. Om Parvat also known as Aum is situated at a height of 5,570 metres. The Om Parvat got its name because the top point of Om Parvat resembles the sign of ‘Om’, a sacred Hindu holy symbol.

During this whole journey, pilgrims will get to see some blissful temples and ashrams such as Haat Kalika Temple, Cave Temple of Patalbhubneshnwar, Jageshwar Dham Temple, Narayan Ashram and some other temples of Pithoragarh. Adi Kailash stands at a great height of 6,191 metres and is located in India, close to the Indo-Tibetan border. The region around the peak is peaceful, soothing and incredibly beautiful. At the bottom of the mighty peak quietly exists a lake, known as Gaurikund, which beautifully mirrors the Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar (also known as Manasarovar) is another lake near the peak. Further, the appearance of the massif resembles Mount Kailash, which lies at an elevation of 6,638 meters, in Tibet. Adi Kailash, also known as Om Parvat, has several other names like Little Kailash, Jonglingpong Peak, Baba Kailash and Chhota Kailash. The summit of Om Parvat still remains virgin due to its sacred nature BUT the first attempt to climb the peak was done by an Indo - British team in the late 19th century and later followed by another group in 2004. Located on its base, Lake Parvati at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters is often considered as a holy lake by several Hindu pilgrims. The trek to Adi Kailash Base Camp traverses through a rich valley, which is embellished with several tribal villages, cultivating lands and wide range of flora and fauna at different altitude, and cuts through several small streams. If you are lucky enough then you might also get a glimpse of the Annapurna Peak, which lies at an elevation of 8,091 meters in Nepal. The Adi Kailash trek that stretches from an elevation of 2,200 meters to 4,752 meters is one of the challenging treks in the Kumaon Himalayan region that woos the soul of several trekkers.

Usually, the trek is carried out between June to October from the vivid Dharchula. This is the best time to see the dot on the semicircular part of the OM symbol. The trail then leads us to Lakhanpur from where we would trek to the next spot which is Lamari. After a night stay at this point, we would then proceed towards Budi. From this place, the trek becomes more challenging as it gets steep. Our next stop from Budi will be Nabi. There will be a night stay in this place and then a jeep ride would take us through Nampa to the Kutti village, where we would enjoy the nature walk as well as the stay in the village for one complete night. Through Sungchuma we will head towards Jollingkong from where we can get the Adi Kailash Darshan. Jollingkong is the highest point of our trek, after reaching here we can offer prayers in the temple, and also sightseeing the Gaurikund Lake. Tour My India will provide you the best of experience during your trip to Adi Kailash by helping you at every step. We ensure to provide the best of the services that are available during your complete trek.

The Adi Kailash trek is approximately of 11-12 days of trail depending on fitness level. Being one of the alpine treks in the Indian Himalayan belt, it is recommended that one should at least have prior trekking experience. The best time to hit the track to the base of Adi Kailash is during the summer and autumn season.

Adi Kailash (Kumaoni: आदि कैलाश), also referred to as Shiva's Crown, Chota Kailash, Baba's Peak, or Jonglingkong Summit, stands majestically within the Himalayan range in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. The mountain's presence is synonymous with the divine aura of Lord Shiva. Positioned to the northwest of Gunji, Adi Kailash shares its celestial prominence with the enchanting Limpiyadhura Pass, which lies further to the northwest. Gazing northeast from Gunji, one's eyes are drawn to the renowned Lipulekh Pass, the venerable Old Lipulekh Peak, and the mystical Om Parvat, positioned to the southwest of the Lipulekh Pass. The Adi Kailash base camp, nestled beside a sacred Shiva temple on the tranquil shores of Jolingkong Lake, beckons travelers with its spiritual allure. This sanctuary of spirituality is situated 17 km northwest of the serene Kuthi (Kuti) village, nestled within the embrace of Kuthi Yankti Valley. Embarking on the Adi Kailash Yatra Circuit unfolds two distinct routes for pilgrims and adventurers alike. The first, following the eastern-southeastern path, is accessible via the Pithoragagh-Lipulekh Pass Highway (PLPH). This route branches off onto the Gunji-Lampiya Dhura Pass Road (GLDPR), a meticulously paved motorway that winds its way through Kuthi Yankti Valley from Gunji, eventually guiding the way to the divine abode of Adi Kailash. The second route, embracing the western-southwestern journey through the Darma Valley, presents an alternate way to approach the sacred heights. Traversing the Darma Valley, this path guides travelers toward the revered Sin La pass, nestled to the south of the mystical Brahma Parvat. Beyond this pass, the Kuthi Yankti Valley, adorned with its spiritual treasures, leads pilgrims to the hallowed shores of Jolingkong Lake Base Camp. Many devotees and explorers who opt for the second route, upon basking in the divine presence of Adi Kailash, find themselves retracing their steps along the first route to Gunji. This junction is where a convergence occurs, as pilgrims can join the renowned pilgrimage route that leads to the revered Kailash-Mansarovar and Om Parvat, while following the course of the sacred Sharda River (Kali River). In the hearts of Hindus, the sanctity of Kailash-Mansarovar, Adi Kailash, and Om Parvat resonates deeply, evoking a spiritual connection that transcends the earthly realm.

About Adi Kailash Yatra 2024

Adi Kailash, a trekking spree and a popular pilgrim place for the Hindu devotees

Latest News Adi Kailash Yatra will be operational from 13 May 2024

The love for hiking and spirituality often attracts the tourists to enjoy the splendor of Mount Adi Kailash which features wildflowers, fruits, cascading waterfalls and the thick woodlands that can engulf the wanderers in its gloom. The trek passes through the awe-inspiring Darma, Bryans and Chaundans Valley. One can admire the grandeur of the snowy Annapurna peak, the bubbling Kali River and the Narayan ashram. Many devotees like to head to Adi Kailash as in this trek one can explore the tiny Kuti village named after ‘Kunti’, the mother of Pandavas.

At the very foot of Chotta Kailash is Gauri kund reflecting its entire expanse. Yet another water body close by is called Parvati Sarovar . Also known as "Mansarovar" it is much smaller than the original one. A temple dedicated to Shiva and Parvati is there at the shoreline. Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet, Chotta Kailash served as the most revered substitute of Mount Kailash.

For experiencing spirituality in the lap of the Himalayas, the pilgrims can pay obeisance at the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, adorned on the shoreline of the Adi Kailash. During the Chinese invasion of Tibet, the Chota Kailash was revered next to Mount Kailash by the locals.

OM Parvat on the Way to Adi Kailash Yatra

From Gunji the Kailash Mansarovar route branches off to Kalapani from where the Kali river originates. Onwards from here is Navidhang (3987m) Lipupass is only 9 kms from here. From Navidhang " Om Parvat" , the miracle of nature is clearly perceptible. Snow lies on this mountain in the shape of a perpetual "OM", the primordial sound. All other slopes may be bare but this inscription in the snow is everlasting and as one observes it, one gets the feeling that the mountain itself is Lord Shiva incarnate.

10-Day Road Trip to Adi Kailash & Om Parvat (Adi Kailash Yatra)

10-Day Road Trip to Adi Kailash & Om Parvat (Adi Kailash Yatra)

I was intrigued by the idea of traveling to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat as there’s hardly any information about it online. It is one of the few regions in Uttarakhand that is still untouched. Going on an Adi Kailash road trip was unlike anything else.

But of course, it comes with its own set of challenges.

Little did we anticipate encountering not one, but two landslides along the way, testing our resilience. Despite the setbacks, we reveled in the beauty of untouched landscapes and forged unforgettable memories, reaffirming that true exploration lies beyond the beaten path.

While it’s possible to do this road trip on your own, you need to obtain permits and tackle landslides. So, it’s best to go with a self-drive road trip company like Chasing Sunsets . They partnered with Planet Way Round, their Himalayan road trip partner to make this epic trip happen.

Prefer to watch a video? I’ve got you covered 🙂

Here is a rough itinerary of our 10-day Adi Kailash road trip to give you an idea of what it’s like.

Adi Kailash Road Trip Itinerary (Delhi – Delhi)

This road trip is popularly known as Adi Kailash Yatra and is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus.

Day 1: Delhi to Haldwani

I landed in Delhi in the morning at around 8:30 AM. I met Rohit from Chasing Sunsets here and we left for Haldwani.

This was an easy journey through good roads and we reached Haldwani in the evening.

Distance: 292km (6 hours)

Stay: Hotel North House, Haldwani

north house haldwani

Day 2: Haldwani to Chaukori

sunset on the way from Haldwani to Chaukori

This is where we met the rest of the group. We joined a convoy of 11 cars and we left Haldwani in the morning on our way to Chaukori.

Distance: 200kms (7 hours)

Interesting landmarks: Bhimtal Lake, Kainchi Dham (Neem Karoli Baba Ashram)

Stay: Neelgagan Resort, Chaukori

Day 3: Chaukori to Dharchula

Morning View of Nanda Devi Peak and other mountains from Neelgagan resort

Distance: 100kms (4 hours)

Interesting landmarks: Nepal – India viewpoint

Stay: KMVN Guest House, Dharchula

Day 4: Dharchula to Darma Valley

This is one of the most scenic journeys that you will encounter during this trip – and this makes it to my list of top road trips in India. Going on a road trip through the scenic valleys of Uttarakhand is one of my favourite moments on this Adi Kailash road trip.

Our journey led us through towering rock formations, cascading streams, majestic waterfalls, and an expanse of lush, vibrant green landscapes, leaving us in awe of the breathtaking beauty that unfolded before our very eyes. A mesmerizing tapestry of nature’s wonders! Truly a sight to behold.

Just after Dharchula is when you lose your network. Don’t expect to have a network until you get back to Dharchula which is about 4 days later.

View of the mountains surrounded by clouds in darma valley dugtu village

Distance: 56kms (4 hours)

Interesting landmarks: The entire journey to Darma Valley is something to look out for! Panchachuli Peaks are a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks

Stay: Bluesheep Homestay, Dugtu Village (From this homestay, you can see the majestic Panchachuli peaks!)

Day 5: Darma Valley

darma valley uttarakhand

From Dugtu village in Darma Valley, you can go on a short 7km hike to get a clear view of Panchachuli peaks – a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

This is part of the popular hiking route that goes all the way to Panchachuli Base Camp (4260m).

According to Hindu mythology, Panchachuli is where the Pandavas had their last meal before they began their heavenly abode.

The hiking route is filled with beautiful sights: lush meadows covered in colorful flowers, quaint villages with a rustic charm, and magnificent Himalayan birds gracing the skies, making it a pleasant and scenic hike.

Stay: Bluesheep Homestay

Day 6: Darma Valley to Vyas Valley

The journey from Darma valley to vyas valley is also very scenic and you’ll be in awe of the towering mammoth rocks, the abundant greenery, the gushing waterfalls while traversing along the Kali river.

You will witness mountain peaks and small hamlets across the Kali river on the Nepal side.

Distance: 92kms (6 hours)

Stay: Athithi Vyas Homestay, Nabi village (Contact Yug: 8755452581)

Day 7: Vyas Valley

Morning view of the mountaints from athithi vyas homestay, Nabi village

Today is when you visit Adi Kailash.

As you are probably aware, this is en route to Manas Sarovar Yatra – a popular pilgrimage route among Hindus. Adi Kailash also has a special significance in Hindu mythology. It is known to be a meditation spot for Goddess Parvati and also where she created Lord Ganesha.

You can hike to Gauri Kund and Parvati Kund from here.

Go check out the villages around here if you have time. They offer an interesting perspective into what it’s like to live here. We went to Kong Rong village which is about a 20-minute walk from the homestay.

Interesting landmarks: Adi Kailash

Day 8: Vyas Valley to Dharchula

Sheshnag parvat surrounded by clouds on day 8 of our Adi Kailash road trip

From Nabi village to Om Parvat is about an hour-long journey. There’s a checkpoint along the way where you need to show the permits. Depending on whether it’s snowing or sunny, the visibility of Om Parvat might differ.

We were not able to spot the Om-shaped peak of Om Parvat because of bad visibility.

According to Shiv Puran which centers around Hindu God Shiva, there are 7 places where you could spot Om in Kalyug. So far, we have only witnessed one – and that is in Om Parvat.

From Parvat, head back to Dharchula. You will finally be able to access the mobile network as you approach Dharchula.

Distance: 108kms (7 hours)

Interesting landmarks: Om Parvat

Stay: KMVN Guesthouse, Dharchula

Day 9: Dharchula to Pittoragarh

This is a short road journey and an easy one.

Distance: 92kms (3 hours)

Interesting Landmarks: Restaurant with a view of the entire town of Pittoragarh

Stay: KMVN Guesthouse

Day 10: Pittoragarh to Delhi

Start the day early from Pittoragarh because it’s a long journey from Pittoragarh to Delhi.

Distance: 500kms (10 hours)

However, if you have more time, then split the journey between 2 days which makes it a little more pleasant. Head to Haldwani from Pittoragarh (185 km, 5 hours 30 minutes) on the first day and then head to Delhi from Haldwani (290 km, 5 hours 40 minutes).

Things to Keep in Mind on your road trip to Darma Valley & Vyas Valley

  • Please note that this area requires an inner line permit. The permit is available from the SDM office at Dharchula. Documents required for a permit – Aadhar Card and Voter’s ID. But we didn’t personally procure permits – all our permits were handled by Planet Way Round.
  • You won’t be able to access the mobile network in Darma Valley & Vyas Valley. So make sure to inform your friends and family well in advance when you are in Dharchula that you won’t have a mobile network for at least 4 days.
  • Make sure to keep 2 days as a buffer as there could be delays due to landslides or road construction in this region.
  • This region doesn’t have public transport, so either you can drive or ride on your own or opt for a road trip company for this trip. With safety in mind, it’s best to go with a reliable road trip company as these are mostly off-roading experiences inside the valleys.
  • Only 4*4 are preferred for this trip.

In conclusion, the Adi Kailash road trip is a journey that promises not just scenic beauty but also a profound spiritual experience. It takes you through breathtaking landscapes and ancient pilgrimage sites, leaving you with lasting memories and a deep connection to the Himalayas. Embarking on this adventure is a transformative experience that will tug at your heartstrings long after you finish the trip.

Adi Kailash, also known as Chhota Kailash, is a sacred abode situated in the Dharchula District of the picturesque Indian state of Uttarakhand. Elevated at a height of 5,945 metres above sea level, it is located in the last village of India in the Kumaon region, Kuti. Named after Kunti, the mother of the Pandavas, the great characters of Mahabharata, Kuti is situated on the Indo-Tibetan border. Undoubtedly, the journey towards Adi Kailash is a sacred pilgrimage that brings inner solitude, immense power, and self-purification that no other spiritual journey can offer. The journey starts from Lakhanpur, the starting point of this sacred Adi Kailash yatra. From here, pilgrims need to drive through the scenic hamlets of Lamari, Budhi, Nabhi, Kutti, Jyolingkong, Nabidhang, Om Parvat, and Kala Paanj to reach the starting point.

The route then passes through the Shin La Pass and joins with the Darma Valley, offering moderate to challenging terrain that takes the pilgrims through the mighty splendour of the snowy peaks of Annapurna, verdant forests, the gushing Kali River, the colourful gardens of Narayan Ashram, a plethora of flora, and several plunging waterfalls.

Pilgrims on this sacred journey will also come across the famous Kali Temple at Kalapani, which is around 14 kilometres from the magnificent Aum or Om Parvat. Speaking of Om Parvat, it is situated at an elevation of 5,570 metres amidst the mesmerising Himalayas. The peak got its name as the snow after melting looks like the “Om or ॐ,” the holiest sign of Hinduism.

Pilgrims will also get a chance to visit auspicious water bodies like Aachri Taal, Parvati Sarovar, and Gauri Kund during this journey.

What is the Story behind Adi Kailash? [History & Mythology]

Adi Kailash, also known as Chhota Kailash (little Kailash), is a mountain located in the Himalayan range in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at a height of 5,945 meters above sea level.

Adi Kailash is considered a mirror image of Mount Kailash and a sacred site in Hinduism. It is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva, his partner Parvati, and their children Ganpati and Kartikey.

 alt=

The mountain is a replica of Mount Kailash in Tibet and holds significant spiritual and cultural importance for Hindus.

It is considered the second among the “Panch Kailash,” five magnificent peaks across the Himalayas bearing the name “Kailash,” other being Mount Kailash in first place, Adi Kailash in second, Shikhar Kailash (Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash) in third, Kinnaur Kailash in fourth and Manimahesh Kailash in fifth place in terms of importance.

Historical and Mythological Significance

Adi Kailash is associated with several mythical stories and legends from Hindu scriptures. According to the Puranas, Adi Kailash was the main stop of Lord Shiva’s marriage with Mata Parvati, originating from Kailash Mansarovar.

1. The Earthly Abode of Lord Shiva

Adi Kailash is believed to be the earthly home of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity in Hinduism. It is said that Lord Shiva meditated in this sacred region for thousands of years. According to the various mythical texts, Lord Shiva’s presence in Adi Kailash represents his unbreakable bond with Goddess Parvati and his divine form.

2. The Testing of Parvati’s Devotion

It is also believed that Adi Kailash is the site where Lord Shiva tested the devotion of Parvati, his partner. The story goes that Parvati, who was deeply in love with Lord Shiva, wanted to marry him. However, Lord Shiva was not interested in marriage and was focused on his spiritual pursuits.

Lord Shiva asked her to perform a series of complex tasks to test Parvati’s devotion. Parvati completed all the tasks, and Lord Shiva was impressed with her devotion. He then agreed to marry her, and they lived happily ever after.

3. The Panch Kailash

Panch Kailash, or the “Five Kailashas,” is the collective name for a group of five sacred mountain peaks in separate locations in the Himalayas, each of which is considered to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Adi Kailash is part of the Panch Kailash.

The five peaks are:

  • Kailash Mansarovar
  • Adi Kailash
  • Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash
  • Kinnaur Kailash
  • Manimahesh Kailash.

4. Cosmic Dance and Divine Form

Adi Kailash is said to be the place where Lord Shiva performed his cosmic dance, known as the Tandava , and revealed his divine form to the Sage Ashtavakra .

The historical and mythological significance of Adi Kailash contributes to its spiritual importance, attracting followers from all over the world. The mountain is a symbol of spirituality and a place of deep devotion for Hindus, offering a profound connection with the god.

Geographical Significance

Adi Kailash’s geographical location near the India-Tibet border adds to its significance.

The height of Adi Kailash is about 5945 meters above sea level. The mountain is also known for changing its positions, which has been considered a primary attraction for pilgrims.

The terrain of Adi Kailash is challenging, requiring physical fitness and stamina, and the mountain’s natural beauty offers visitors a sense of calm and divinity.

Temples and Sacred sites located in Adi Kailash

The area is dotted with several temples and sacred sites, heightening its beauty. Some of the significant temples and sacred sites located in Adi Kailash are:

1. Adi Kailash Temple:

The Adi Kailash Temple is located at the center of the pilgrimage and is devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is a significant site for devotees who undertake the Adi Kailash Yatra, seeking spiritual enlightenment and blessings from Lord Shiva.

2. Gauri Kund(Jolingkong Lake):

A lake exists at the bottom of this mighty peak known as Gauri Kund. Near its shoreline, a shrine of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva stands. Gauri Kund is a significant site for devotees who undertake the Adi Kailash Yatra, seeking spiritual enlightenment and blessings from Lord Shiva.

Location: situated at the foot of Adi Kailash, at an elevation of 5608 meters.

  • Hindu Mythology: Named after Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva, “Gauri Kund” translates to “Lake of Compassion.” Old scriptures narrate that after battling the fierce demon Jalandhar, Parvati sought refuge in this lake to regain her divine strength. The cleansing waters restored her power, allowing her to finish the demon.
  • Local Folklore: Believed to be frequented by divine beings who descend from the heavens to bathe in its sacred waters.

Significance:

  • Considered a vital stop during the Adi Kailash Yatra pilgrimage. Devotees take a holy dip in the lake, seeking purification and blessings.
  • The natural beauty of the lake, reflecting the giant peak of Adi Kailash, creates a breathtaking view.

3. Om Parvat:

Om Parvat is a sacred mountain located near Adi Kailash. It is known for its unique shape and resembles the sacred Hindu symbol “Om.”

The mountain is 5590 meters above sea level and is considered a significant site for spiritual seekers and devotees who visit this place to experience its divine aura and deepen their spiritual connection with the god.

According to mythological beliefs, it is believed that there are a total of 8 mountains showing the Om symbol and only one is discovered till date, and that is ‘Om parvat.’ This significance makes it a historical and thrilling experience for visitors.

4. Parvati Sarovar:

Location: Situated 2 km from the peak of Adi Kailash, at an elevation of 4497 meters.

  • Religious Importance: Regarded as a miniature version of Mansarovar Lake, which lies near Mount Kailash in Tibet. This association further cements the spiritual significance of Adi Kailash as a replica of the original “abode of the gods.”
  • Local Legend: Said to have been blessed by Parvati herself, granting wishes and fostering spiritual growth.
  • Pilgrims bathe in the lake, believing it washes away sins and bestows good fortune.
  • A shrine dedicated to Shiva and Parvati adorns the lakeshore, attracting devotees for prayers and offerings.
  • Ancient Temple: An ancient temple located in Adi Kailash holds religious significance for locals and provides an opportunity for pilgrims to offer prayers and seek blessings.

Pilgrimage and Yatra

The history of the Adi Kailash Yatra is rooted in Hindu mythology. The Adi Kailash Yatra is a pilgrimage in which devotees go on to worship, carry out rituals, and connect with the divine energy that is present at the site.

The journey to Adi Kailash is a symbol of the eternal faith and the never-ending search for spiritual enlightenment that have been an inseparable part of Hindu tradition.

  • The yatra starts in mid-May and lasts till mid-October, with the best time to visit from mid-May to June and September to mid-October.
  • The newly constructed road Gunji-Lampiya Dhura Pass Road (GLDPR) has significantly reduced the Adi Kailash Yatra, making the pilgrimage more accessible and comfortable for most travelers.
  • The construction of this motorable road has reduced travel time and fatigue, allowing pilgrims to reach their destination more easily and quickly.
  • The road has reduced the trekking distance to Adi Kailash to only 4 km and provides a viewpoint from where the OM Parvat can be seen.
  • It has made the Adi Kailash Yatra an attractive option for many devotees who wish to visit the sacred site.

The Adi Kailash Yatra offers several major attractions that add to the significance and beauty of the yatra. Some of the key attractions of the Adi Kailash Yatra include:

1. Adi Kailash Parikrama:

The main highlight of the Adi Kailash Yatra is the circumambulation (parikrama) of the sacred Adi Kailash mountain range.

2. Spiritual Pilgrimage:

Adi Kailash is considered a revered pilgrimage site for devout Hindus. It attracts numerous pilgrims who undertake the Adi Kailash Yatra to seek blessings, offer prayers, and experience spiritual upliftment.

3. Association with Epic Tales:

The Adi Kailash Yatra is associated with several mythical stories and legends from Hindu scriptures, further enhancing its spiritual and cultural importance.

Pilgrims and those seeking spiritual enlightenment from all walks of life continue to visit Adi Kailash.

In conclusion, Adi Kailash is a symbol of spirituality and a place of deep devotion for Hindus. The mountain’s association with Lord Shiva, its mythical stories, and its challenging terrain make it a popular pilgrimage destination for those seeking a profound connection with the divine.

Some Interesting Facts:

  • The waters of Jolingkong Lake are believed to possess healing properties.
  • Parvati Sarovar freezes over in winter, transforming into a stunning natural ice rink.
  • Both lakes are considered vital for maintaining the ecological balance of the region.

Uttarakhand Launches First-Ever Helicopter Yatra for Adi Kailash

Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, India (NewsVoir) In a groundbreaking move for Hindu pilgrimage tourism, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Trip to Temples today launched India's first-ever helicopter yatra for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. This innovative initiative shatters limitations imposed by season and terrain, making these revered pilgrimage sites accessible to a wider range of devotees for more days in a year. Previously, reaching these holy sites involved a challenging journey - either a long trek or a combination of car travel and walking, confined to a limited window between May and June or September and October. Today, 18 pilgrims embarked on the inaugural helicopter flight, signifying a new era of accessibility championed by Trip to Temples. Nestled in the majestic Vyas Valley lies Adi Kailash, revered as the second abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Bordering India, Nepal and Tibet, Om Parvat is a natural wonder sculpted into a perfect "Om" symbol. Visible only from the Indian side, the closest vantage point was previously Nabhidang, 11 km from the Old Lipu Lekh Pass, demanding a daunting trek. Trip to Temples, in collaboration with UTDB, has revolutionized the pilgrimage experience. Devotees can now embark on a one-day aerial darshan of both sites, returning the same day which is launched today. From April 15th, a five-day helicopter yatra will commence, with helicopters landing near the holy sites, minimizing walking distances and departing conveniently from Pithoragarh. Vikas Mishra, CEO of Trip to Temples, expressed unwavering dedication to enhancing accessibility: "We are committed to partnering with the Uttarakhand government to make Hindu pilgrimage destinations more accessible in the region. We continuously explore ways to extend this accessibility for more time period, allowing more devotees to fulfill their spiritual aspirations." Byasdev Rana (29), a participant from Odisha on the inaugural yatra, described the experience as awe-inspiring. Time and physical limitations had previously hindered his ability to connect with this vital aspect of his faith. Thanks to Trip to Temples and the Uttarakhand government's initiative, he, like countless others, can finally have darshan of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. This upcoming winter yatra will be India's first, offering a mesmerizing view of the snow-covered Vyas Valley, Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will replace the strenuous trek from Jyolingkong and Nabhidang, ensuring a comfortable journey through the snowy landscape. The yatra will be open from April 15th to May 1st, 2024, and will resume in November, extending its reach until March. Mishra says, “The project prioritizes community development by collaborating with local homestays in Gunji, Nabhi and Napalchhu to provide accommodation for pilgrims. Trip to Temples is managing registrations. We can reached by phone or WhatsApp at +91 8510007751 or our website for details about the Adi Kailash Yatra by Helicopter.” This revolutionary helicopter yatra, spearheaded by Trip to Temples, promises to transform the pilgrimage experience for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. With breathtaking aerial views, comfortable travel options, and a focus on community development, UTDB and Trip to Temples are ushering in a new era for Hindu pilgrimage tourism in India. Uttarakhand Launches First-Ever Helicopter Yatra for Adi Kailash

NewsVoir Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand) [India], April 1: In a groundbreaking move for Hindu pilgrimage tourism, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Trip to Temples today launched India's first-ever helicopter yatra for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat.

We continuously explore ways to extend this accessibility for more time period, allowing more devotees to fulfill their spiritual aspirations."

Byasdev Rana (29), a participant from Odisha on the inaugural yatra, described the experience as awe-inspiring.

Mishra says, "The project prioritizes community development by collaborating with local homestays in Gunji, Nabhi and Napalchhu to provide accommodation for pilgrims. Trip to Temples is managing registrations. We can reached by phone or WhatsApp at +91 8510007751 or our website for details about the Adi Kailash Yatra by Helicopter." This revolutionary helicopter yatra, spearheaded by Trip to Temples, promises to transform the pilgrimage experience for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. With breathtaking aerial views, comfortable travel options, and a focus on community development, UTDB and Trip to Temples are ushering in a new era for Hindu pilgrimage tourism in India.
