The first person to explore this region was Mr. Nguyen Thong. Approximately 25 years later, in 1893, Dr. Yersin, a French immunologist discovered Dankia high lands while on an expedition to the Langbian high lands.

Xuan Huong Lake was formed by a dam in 1919. Its name comes from the meaning of the perfume and beauty of the spring. Xuan Huong Lake is a poetic site, attracting leisure visitors; it is also a popular rendezvous site for lovers. Da Lat Flower Gardens were established in 1966 by the South Vietnamese Agriculture Service and renovated in 1985. Flowers represented in include hydrangeas, fuchsias and orchids. Most of the latter are in special shaded buildings off to the right from the entrance. The orchids are grown in blocks of coconut palm trunk and in terracotta pots with lots of ventilation holes. Datanla Falls is a cascade about 350m from National Road 20 on a path that first passes through a forest of pines and then continues steeply down the hill into a rainforest. The other good thing is the wildlife - lots of squirrels, birds and butterflies. Prenn Falls (elevation 1124m), located at the foot of the Prenn Mountain Pass, is one of the largest and loveliest falls in the Dalat area. As you approach the falls, you will be able to notice the subtle change in temperature brought by the mist from the water falling from a height of 10m. Another good thing is that the foot of the fall is a small valley covered with flowers and pine trees. Lang Bian Mountain has five volcanic peaks ranging in altitude from 2,100m to 2,400m. Of the two highest peaks, the eastern one is known to locals by the woman's name K'Lang; the western one bears a man's name, H'Bian. The upper reaches of the mountain are forested. The views from the top of Lang Bian Mountain are truly spectacular.

Company information.

This bus operator has been in business since 1993 becoming established as one of the most popular travel companies in Vietnam after a name change in 2009. Sinh Tourist was initially based in a small coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) but now spans offices across Vietnam which provide expert advice as well as assisting travellers in arranging tours and transport.

Routes served by The Sinh Tourist

Sinh Tourist offers a huge range of routes all across the country. It’s possible to travel to almost every destination within Vietnam you could wish with The Sinh Tourist, ensuring you are using an excellent, reliable and safe service .

The journey in the opposite direction is priced at VND249,000 as it often takes a little longer, leaving Dalat at 08.00 and due to arrive in HCMC at 16.00.

If you’re in HCMC and wish to head to the beaches at Mui Ne then there are three buses each day making the trip. The services are spread throughout the day between 07.00 and 20.00, with a journey time of five hours. Visitors wishing to return to HCMC can jump on buses from Mui Ne at 07.30 or 13.00 each day. Buses are priced at VND169,000 for the journey in either direction.

Of course, The Sinh Tourist can also help if you are wanting to travel between Dalat and Mui Ne . There are two buses each day heading in either direction between 07.30 and 13.00, costing VND169,000 for the four hour trip.

One of the country’s main routes is the road from HCMC to Nha Trang and there are two buses a day connecting these cities. The journey typically takes around 11 hours and you have the option of travelling during the day or overnight on a sleeper bus. Tickets are from VND239,000 and buses depart in both directions at around 07.00 and 20.00.

From Nha Trang

From Nha Trang, visitors can head south along the coast or inland to either Mui Ne or Dalat . The bus ride between Nha Trang and Mui Ne takes around five hours, with two departures each day at 07.15 and 20.00. Buses for the return journey leave at 13.00 every day and tickets are priced at VND179,000 either way.

Sinh Tourist offers just one bus per day from Nha Tang to Dalat which leaves at 07.30 and is scheduled to arrive at 11.30. However, there are two buses leaving Dalat for Nah Trang each day at 07.30 and 13.00, tickets cost VND169,000 each way.

All visitors to Vietnam will spend some time in Hanoi during their trip and you’ll no doubt want to visit the ancient capital of Hue . There is one overnight service per day connecting the two cities, leaving Hanoi at 18.00 (arriving in Hue at 07.00) and departing Hue at 17.30 (getting in to the capital for 06.45). This is a 13 hour trip that will cost from VND299,000 one way.

From Hue, Sinh Tourist can arrange transport to Da Nang , a popular coastal city in its own right but also the gateway to Hoi An. There are two services each day from Hue (at 08.00 and 13.15) making the three hour trip to Da Nang. There are also two buses every day heading tin the opposite direction, both priced at VND169,000. From Da Nang all visitors should head to Hoi An, just 1 ½ hours away. There are two buses connecting Da Nang and Hoi An each day, priced at VND159,000.

International destinations

Sinh Tourist can also help you book tickets to international destinations, including within Cambodia and Laos.

From HCMC, you can travel to Sihanoukville by bus at 07.00 each morning, the trip costs VND678,000 for the 11 hour journey. You can also visit Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh , from HCMC. There are four services per day between 06.30 and 15.30 crossing the border into Cambodia. For visitors looking to return to HCMC, there are three buses each day from Phnom Penh, with prices starting at VND307,000.

From Hanoi, Sinh Tourist can arrange travel into Laos, it these are very long bus rides. There is one service each day to both Vientiane (22 hours) and Luang Prabang (24 hours), both departing at 17.00. Tickets cost VND674,000 to Vientiane and VND1,059,000 to Luang Prabang.

It’s very convenient that you are able to book all of your travel within Vietnam, and even to Cambodia and Laos, using just one company. This will save you a lot of time organising and arranging transport, so you can focus on choosing where you want to stay and what you want to eat during your trip.

As Sinh Tourist has been operating since 1993, you can be confident that you will receive a reliable and high quality service.

The prices of Sinh Tourist buses can be slightly higher than with some of its competitors, but you are paying for the expertise and professionalism of this long-established company.

Keep in mind

It is possible to purchase open bus tickets from Sinh Tourist, which allow you to hop-on and hop-off all along the route between Hanoi and HCMC. You’ll have to check the prices as it can depend on where your journey begins.

Travellers reviews

The majority of reviews of Sinh Tourist services praise the reliability and comfort of the buses and the operator has long been a hugely popular choice amongst travellers of all ages and budgets.

Criticism of these trips tend to focus on the same issues that plague bus travel across the country, such as fairly common delays affecting journey times and the lack of toilets onboard the buses. Unfortunately, delays are a fact of life when travelling through many countries and Vietnam is no exception. The absence of toilets is a bigger issue but, again, is one that affects travellers on almost every bus in the country.

The Sinh Tourist reviews

Reviews_based_operator.

  • s s simona L. Aug 12, 2023 Bus nuovo, pulito, confortevole. Il viaggio è stato veloce ma con una piccola pausa per le eventuali necessità. L'autista ha guidato bene, senza abusare del clacson che disturba chi riposa. Consigliato.
  • T T Therese T. Aug 6, 2023 The driver and his assistant was very polite, patient when the bus does breaks in between stops for food and bio which made the 6 hr trip a breeze.
  • J J Juliette B. Jun 15, 2023 We are two Canadian backpackers and had a great experience with this bus. When we arrived at the bus stop, we paid 40 USD for the visa (we didn’t ask for the e-visa) and had to give our passeports. The bus left right on time and after 2h we got to the Cambodian border where the guide took care of everything. We were then stoped at a restaurant while the guide requested the visas. After around 15 minutes he came back and everything was ready. We then got back on the road to get to Phnom Penh. Overall this experience went really smoothly and I would recommend it.

During the colonial era, Da Lat (Đà Lạt), also Dalat , in the South Central Highlands of Vietnam , was the playground of the French, who built villas in the clear mountain air to escape the heat and humidity of the plains and coastal areas.

Understand [ edit ]

Dalat looks somewhat like a cross between Vietnam and rural France. Many of its hotels and houses are built in a European/French style. The city spreads across a series of pine-covered hills, with a small lake in the centre and surrounded by a man-made lake and higher peaks, making for some lovely scenery quite different from the rest of Vietnam. Temperatures are pleasantly warm by day, and cool at night, down to perhaps 10°C.

Dalat is surrounded by some of the best mountain biking, hiking and canyoning opportunities in Vietnam, with hills of coffee and tea plantations, which evoke images of the colonial hill stations of the north of India.

Dalat's high altitude (1,500–2,000 m) and fertile landscape make it one of Vietnam's premier agricultural areas, producing varieties of fruits, vegetables, tea, coffee, and flowers that don't grow in the lowlands. In markets as far north as Hanoi and Haiphong, vegetable and flower vendors will tout their "grown in Dalat" produce.

Dalat is a favorite destination for company-sponsored weekend outings, family getaways, and honeymooners.

Some hotels offer special arrangements with taxi companies to ferry hotel guests to and from the airport for around 200,000 dong. Hotels can try to rip you off by asking for anything between 300,000 to 400,000 dong for an airport transfer. Be adamant on 200,000 dong. Taxi service with ☏ +84 6 3383 5583 have a fixed price of 250,000 dong. Malinh taxi charges 300,000 dong to the airport. If going by meter, it comes to around 577,000 dong (distance around 35 km).

Or catch the airport shuttle for 60,000 dong per person (Aug 2022). They will ask what hotel you're staying in, and the airport shuttle bus will take you there. You can get the shuttle back to the airport at the Intercity Bus Station (Bến xe Liên tỉnh), also for 60,000 dong, last bus at 7 pm (Aug 2022).

By bus [ edit ]

Most local and foreign travelers arrive in Dalat by bus, including those traveling on the famous Sinh Cafe Hanoi-HCMC open-tour buses.

Phuong Trang Busline runs several daily services to Dalat from Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City . From Nha Trang the bus ride is about 5 hours, with the obligatory stop at a dilapidated Cham temple/tourist site. From Nha Trang, the travel time to 3–4 hours, including a 30-minute breakfast/WC stop about one hour out of Nha Trang. From Ho Chi Minh City the bus ride is about 7 hours (9 hours if there is bad traffic leaving Saigon). If coming from Mui Ne , be careful as the road is rough most of the way, so try to book a large bus or at least a seat towards the front.

From Mui Ne : An Phu Travel . 07:30, afternoon . 2 buses a day. It's not too comfortable seater bus but still ok. Tickets can be booked in most hotels and guest houses. They have free pick up. Journey takes 4-5 hours and includes some great views. Drop off in Dalat: Nguyen Chi Thanh street, close to the city center. USD5 . ( updated Mar 2018 ) . The Sinh Tourist . The bus tickets are available online on baolau ( updated Mar 2018 ) .

From Danang - Danang Central Bus Station, sleeper bus from Danang to Dalat with air-cond, toilet on bus, departs from Danang at 17:00 and arrives Dalat at 08:00 - 09:00 (15 hours), it costs 265,000 dong/ticket, you may come directly to the Bus Station or online booking via email [email protected].

For foreign visitors, it may be best to book a ticket on a bus without a television. The entertainment offered could be loud and unappealing if you prefer sleeping before arriving at their next destination.

Alternatively, catch a local bus at Ho Chi Minh City , Bien Hoa , Phan Rang , Nha Trang or Buon Ma Thuot .

By motorbike [ edit ]

Motorbikes are also a good choice for adventurous travelers who like to travel in an experiential style and save money. From Saigon to Da Lat is about 300 km, it takes about 7 – 10 hours if traveling by motorbike. Although it takes quite a long time, these will be quite interesting experiences, as well as help you discover many beautiful scenes along the way. A legit motorbike driving license is required to rent a motorbike in Vietnam.

Get around [ edit ]

Depending on where you stay, you can walk to most parts around town. You can catch a xe om (motorbike taxi) from most corners, so if you're going somewhere farther out of town, you have a fast way to get there. You can also book via app using Grab Bike. Taxi cars are also abundant and reasonable in price, yet watch the meter, as meter fixing is a common practice from north to south. As of July 2018, meter-fixing is a much diminished problem and almost all taxi meters click into life after the vehicle has traveled a few metres. The occasional taxi may take you on a circuitous route to get to your destination but opening Google maps and pointing out that you know the way reduces incidents of this kind. Taxis are cheap and an ideal way to get round Dalat.

There is a local bus which passes near most of the main tourist sites. Heading south you can catch it at the bus shelter by the lake. Otherwise, the bus hub can be found on Hoa Binh Square (Khu Hoa Binh - behind Hoa Binh theater), just up from the market. The last bus each day is at 17:30.

There are many places around town to rent a bicycle, tandem, or motorbike. Please consider carefully before you rent a motorbike, as according to the Vietnamese law you must be in the possession of a valid Vietnamese driver's licence to be able to drive a motor vehicle in the country. Failure to have one cancels any insurance that the bike might come with and makes you liable for any damages. In Southeast Asia, you are always liable, as you are always guilty, as you are presumed to have more money than the other party. Hence you will have to pay for damages to the bike and its full value, damages to other people and their property, as well as ruining your holiday. Need a private car, contact mrlee from Mimosatravel, excellent English guide and driver

The three palaces and summer home of the colonial era, last emperor of Vietnam Bao Dai, which is of great interest once you visit these three heritage sites, named Palace I, II and III, the Dalat Palace Hotel being one of them, with its adjacent Dalat Du Park Hotel, all from the 1920s, together with the Dalat Palace Golf Club, which was built in 1922, to give his majesty the opportunity to practice his golf skills picked up during his years of study in France. The golf course is an awesome site, whether you enjoy the swinging and putting or not, as the coffee shop at the golf course has some wholesome meals of Asian and European food, with great view of the deep green fairways and classy environment. The Palace I is on the same street when you walk to the Crazy House. It is about a 15-30 minute walk depending on your pace (1.1 km from Tran Phu, 47 m elevation gain). Most visitors to Dalat are Vietnamese, and most of them leave loaded with stuff. What they like to take home is dried and candied fruits, strawberry preserves, coffee, green and artichoke tea, local wine, dried venison, orchids, strawberries, avocados, and other fresh produce. If you take any sort of organized tour, chances are you will be off-loaded for a half hour at a shop selling these items. Local treats are also for sale in abundance in the large central market in the area around Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Le Dai Hanh. Partly covered and partly outdoors, the market has dozens of small stalls selling fruits and vegetables, clothing, and a variety of other goods. There is a supermarket on the top floor selling necessities for travellers. Strolling around the market is a favourite evening activity, and every night it buzzes with thousands of visitors.

Dalat does not offer lot of high-end handicrafts of the sort favoured by overseas tourists. Dalat is famous, however, for its beautifully crafted silk embroidered pictures, which can be purchased at a massive mark up from the many galleries around Dalat or at a fraction of the price from the central Dalat market.

Dalat also has an abundance of fruit, vegetables, and flowers available for purchase if you plan to stay for a few days and want to liven up your hotel room or cook your own meals.

How to Get to Da Lat

Unlike the other cities, Da Lat is not accessible by train, yet there are still various ways to get to this city.

There are three airlines that fly domestically from here: Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, and VietJet Air. Until the beginning of 2018, there were five domestic routes available, with prices listed in the table below.

The ticket prices for an economy class are subject to change and will be updated regularly.

The airport is around 30 kilometers from the Da Lat town center and there are two popular ways to travel there: an airport shuttle bus and a cab. The shuttle bus costs between 40,000 and 50,000 VND, while the four-seat cab costs around 180,000 VND.

Da Lat Bus

The Sinh Tourist and Phuong Trang Bus (Futa Bus) are the two most well-known bus operators, providing well-equipped buses, many trips running every day, decent services, and reasonable prices. Motorbike Trip To Da Lat

Motorbike Trip To Da Lat

Depending on traffic conditions, the drive from Nha Trang will take 3 to 4 hours. The recommended route is to take the QL27C and then head west of the city, where you will find beautiful roads and a breathtaking view of the coastline.

If you depart from Ho Chi Minh City, the trip may take 6 to 8 hours, therefore taking frequent stops along the route is advised. Don't leave too late in the day, inspect your motorcycle thoroughly before the journey, and pack windproof clothing and raincoats.

By Private Car

Personal vehicles are a great choice for traveling in groups of three to eight people. They could go at any time of the day, have more room to sit comfortably, and have more space to store luggage. Renting a car is comparable to taking a cab but the services are far better. The driver can help you and provide you with crucial information as needed since he could speak English rather well. The drawback of using a private vehicle is that it can only depart from a few surrounding places, like Nha Trang, Mui Ne, and Ho Chi Minh City.

6 ways to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat

  • Last updated on 2023-06-20

Dalat is located approximately 330 km from Ho Chi Minh City, making it the third closest tourist destination after Vung Tau and Mui Ne.

Despite its proximity, it takes over 8 hours to travel there by bus, creating a sense of distance. Compared to Ho Chi Minh City, Dalat can be an inconvenient destination for visitors.

While flying to Dalat might seem unnecessary, traveling by bus can be too far and time-consuming.

In this article, I will explain the different transportation options available for getting to Dalat from Ho Chi Minh City.

Table of Contents

How to get from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat

Here’s a summary of the available transportation options for traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat:

The list below excludes temporary coupons and promotional events. It is based on the lowest one-way fare regardless of time and day.

Intercity Bus

Using an intercity bus, you can travel from Ho Chi Minh City’s western bus terminal (Bến Xe Miền Tây) to Dalat’s bus terminal (Ben Xe Da Lat).

There is an excellent variety of options, as buses run every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day, from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat.

Since the trip takes about 8 hours, most buses are sleeper buses with modern facilities.

However, getting from the central downtown area of District 1 or Bui Vien Street in Ho Chi Minh City to Mien Tay bus terminal takes about 30 minutes and costs 200,000 Dong using Grab.

Dalat’s bus terminal is around 3 km from downtown, making it quite convenient.

Considering the time and cost, the advantage of using an intercity bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat is diminished.

While many bus companies operate on this route, Futa – Phuong Trang Bus is recommended.

This company, which specializes in sleeper buses, is the largest passenger transportation company in Vietnam, and you can easily book tickets through their website or via an agent.

Phuong Trang 버스

After booking on the internet homepage, it is recommended to arrive a little earlier as you need to exchange your ticket for an actual bus ticket at the Phuong Trang counter at the terminal.

Travel Agency Bus

Even though there are limited options, taking a Travel Agency Bus is the most comfortable way to travel from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat.

Sinh Tourist is one of the travel agencies situated along Ho Chi Minh’s bustling travel agency street that offers a sleeping bus to Dalat twice a day.

One advantage of this bus service is that the staff can communicate in English, which is especially helpful for foreign travelers.

Moreover, the fact that many foreigners use this service provides a sense of safety and reduces travel-related stress.

But, the bus does not have as many convenient features as the newer limousine bus that I will mention soon.

  • Visit Sinh Tourist directly or send an email to make a reservation

Limousine Van (9-seater)

If you want to travel more comfortably than on a bus, you can use a 9-seater limousine van.

These small vans are widely utilized in Vietnam for traveling between nearby cities, with Dalat being the final destination for almost all vans departing from Ho Chi Minh City.

Boarding is easy, making it convenient for small groups of passengers, and the prices are not too high.

However, since the distance is quite long, there are only two companies operating vans, limiting the options.

These small vans aren’t fully equipped as sleeping buses, with seats that can recline halfway for comfortable sleeping during the journey.

Similar to the limousine buses mentioned below, pick-up and drop-off locations vary depending on the company operating the van and can be selected when booking on their websites.

the sinh tourist dalat

Even if it’s not a designated pick-up or drop-off location, you can get off the van along the way if your hotel or destination is on the van’s route.

In this case, communication in Vietnamese is necessary, so it’s faster to ask for help from your hotel’s front desk.

The biggest advantage and disadvantage of this limousine van is that it’s a small bus for a small number of passengers.

Common problems when taking the van

  • Someone talks loudly on the phone for a long time during the journey.
  • They buy something that smells very strong at the market (rest stop) along the way.
  •  They eat food with a strong smell inside the van, which is not well-ventilated.

So if there’s even one strange Vietnamese passenger on board, you’ll suffer for the entire 7-hour journey from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat.

the sinh tourist dalat

The reservation method for the limousine van will be explained below, along with the limousine bus.

Limousine Bus (24-40 seater)

Limousine buses seem to be the most commonly used method of transportation from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat.

Since buses are available at almost 5-10 minute intervals, there is a wide variety of options, and for the more expensive 24-seater buses, passengers have the advantage of being able to choose between single and double beds.

Most of these limousine buses have pick-up and drop-off locations at offices in both Ho Chi Minh City and Dalat, which are often conveniently located in the downtown areas, making travel even more convenient.

the sinh tourist dalat

How to book a limousine van and limousine bus?

  • Book through Vexere.

Vexere is the most widely used passenger reservation website in Vietnam. Be sure to choose a company with many reviews and a good rating.

Private Car Service

A private car service is the most expensive option, but it is also the most comfortable way to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat.

The car will pick you up at your desired location in Ho Chi Minh City and drop you off at your preferred location in Dalat. The vehicle used, and the price vary depending on whether it is for 3, 5, or 12 passengers.

  • Book through Klook.

The flight to Dalat takes about 1 hour. Although the fares are not very cheap and there aren’t many flights available, it can be the most preferred method if you want to cover the 8-hour journey in just 1 hour.

  • Vietnam Airlines: 6 flights per day
  • VietJet Air: 2 flights per day

However, Lien Khuong International Airport in Dalat is quite far from the city center, so you will need to travel by shuttle bus, taxi, or Grab.

From Dalat Airport to the city center:

  • Grab: It takes approximately 30-40 minutes from Dalat Airport to the city center near Xuan Huong Lake, and the cost is around 400,000 Dong using Grab.
  • Shuttle Bus: Operates between 06:00 and 18:00, with a cost of 50,000 Dong per hour.

List of airlines operating between Ho Chi Minh and Dalat

  • Vietnam Airlines
  • VietJet Air
  • Pacific Airlines
  • Bamboo Airways

Vietnamese airlines are not well-searchable on Skyscanner when booking domestic flights. So even if it’s inconvenient, please visit each airline to purchase the desired flight ticket.

Can I travel by train from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat?

Unfortunately, you cannot travel by train directly from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat. That’s because Dalat Station, which is one of the famous tourist attractions in Dalat, is an old station built in 1932.

Due to its age, it does not operate trains that connect to major cities. Instead, it only operates once a day on a short section within Lam Dong Province, where Dalat is located.

If you want to travel by train, you’ll need to take a train from Ho Chi Minh to Nha Trang, and then use another mode of transportation to get to Dalat.
