Also famous in Tosh are the many small cafes catering to the small tourist crowd that chooses to visit this offbeat green vista of a village.

Another trekking adventure that leads from Kasol is to the secretive village of Malana. The small village in the Himalayas is situated amidst the towering giants of Chanderkhani and Deo Tibba, and is famous for various reasons, the prime one being the self-isolation of the people of the village. The whole experience soothes the eyes and soul of the travelers who take on the Malana and Magic Valley trek and arrive in this green heaven.

And another day hike from Kasol, which is short yet highly adventurous is the trek to Chalal . Situated by the roaring Parvati River in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh, Chalal is also called the Little Amsterdam and for every reason. This place is well-known in the world for the crazy trance and PSYtrance parties that happen here from time to time. But one of the greater reasons for the fame of this tranquil small town is the presence of the River Parvati and the kind of beauty that it brings to the whole place.

And speaking of the River Parvati in Kasol, India, there is no denying the fact that the soothing stream is a landmark of this town in itself. It is the river that created the valley and hence, everything beautiful in Kasol is owed to the presence of Parvati in the region. Parvati River also makes for a great spot to camp near, on the banks of it, to be precise.

And speaking of camping, Kasol, India has many great spots to enjoy staying out in the lap of nature and under the billions of stars in the night sky that you can see loads and loads of because of the fact that this place is untouched by the modern curses and is still in its pristine state. Some of the best spots for camping in Kasol include the name of Kheerganga. Apart from this, Tosh proves to be another great place to set up camp and get an exquisite hilltop view of the entire region as you sit near a bonfire. Malana, in its secluded and cut-off state, is also a gateway to one of the best camping sites in the Himalayas, known as the Magic Valley. And for an offbeat experience of camping amidst towering mountains of the Himalayas and a place where the inhabitants do not keep themselves reserved from talking to outsiders, Grahan will prove to be a great retreat. The trail to Grahan walks beside the river Parvati in Kasol, with the village lying in the midst of towering green hills and a view of the snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar range.

Apart from the adventurous face of Kasol, there is also a spiritual side to this town. And one of the greatest spots of religious importance here is Manikaran. The region built around a cluster of natural hot springs, Manikaran is of great religious significance to the Sikhs and Hindus. The Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara is said to belong to the era of the founder of the Belief, the first religious leader of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak. He is believed to have come here with a disciple, and to cook their food for a public kitchen called ‘Langar’, he asked the disciple to remove a stone. From under the stone came a hot spring, which still resides in Manikaran Sahib and is considered very sacred. People from all over come to cook the offerings to their God in these springs before consuming, and even take a dip in these waters to wash off their sins. The piety of this place is of the utmost level for the believers of Sikhs.

Another legend relates the place with the Hindu Gods, Vishnu, and Parvati. Parvati lost a gem or ‘Mani’ in the torrential waters below, and the story that followed gave this place its name, Manikaran. Also, it is believed that Lord Shiva’s legendary anger is what gave birth to the hot springs in the area. With many temples dotting the place all over, Manikaran is a must visit, especially because it falls on the way to Kullu and Manali.

Speaking of these regions in the valley, Kullu and Manali can be called as the cultural capital of the state. With such close proximity to Kasol, the name of the small town is many a time collectively called along with the other two. Their presence nearby has boosted tourism in the area even more. And that has given a speed boost to the emergence of a number of cafes, guesthouses, and homestays in the area, so the tourists arriving here will feel all in their comfort zone, meeting and greeting other like-minded backpackers arriving in this quaint destination from several corners of the country, sometimes even the world.

Kasol tourism has done everything to ensure that when someone arrives in this city, they feel safe and sound, alongside the conquering feeling of adventure and the serene feeling of calm taking over their self. Rising gracefully from lush gardens and surrounded by a symmetrical charbagh (four-part garden), Humayun's Tomb exudes an air of tranquility and grandeur. The use of red sandstone and white marble in its construction adds a captivating contrast to the monument's façade, making it a visual delight for visitors and photographers alike.Interestingly, Humayun's Tomb served as an architectural inspiration for the world-famous Taj Mahal, which was built later by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife. The intricate geometric patterns, arched entrances, and delicate lattice work seen in Humayun's Tomb can be traced in the design of the Taj Mahal.Today, the tomb complex houses the graves of several other members of the Mughal dynasty, making it a cherished historical site and a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the beautifully landscaped gardens, marvel at the detailed calligraphy adorning the walls, and immerse themselves in the captivating history that surrounds this majestic monument.

Jantar Mantar Delhi

Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory situated in the heart of the capital city of India – Delhi. This is a phenomenal marvel of architectural brilliance whose shape represents a big sundial. Since its construction, this observatory has seemingly contributed to the study of both time and space. Maharaja Jai Singh laid the foundation stone for constructing this magnificent structure in the year 1724. Likewise, today, we have four more observatories situated in the cities of Varanasi, Jaipur, Mathura, and Ujjain. The primary aim underlying the construction of this massive observatory was the preparation of astronomical charts. These were then used to track the local time zones by keeping an eye on the movement and transitions of the sun, the moon and the different planets that constitute our solar system. It thus follows that a highly precious observatory of the ancient past never fails to surprise the technology-influenced astronomers and researchers. The Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has a got a whopping height of around 723 feet and is comprised of different astronomical instruments totalling to a count of 13 units. Amongst these, the most precious and widely acknowledged ones are – Samrat Yantra, Misra Yantra, Ram Yantra, and Jai Prakash Yantra. The sundial, which forms the chief attraction here, is highly influenced by the ancient Egyptian Ptolemaic Structure. It strictly adheres to the sequential celestial orders of the local arrangement of the equatorial, ecliptic, and the horizontal-zenith planes. Thus, Delhi’s Jantar Mantar brings close the three different dimensions of belief, universe, and society. It conjoins the aspects of astronomical skills with cosmological concepts arising out of the court of a scholarly prince.

Red Fort

The colossal Red Fort in Delhi was the home of the formidable Mughal emperors for around 200 years until the British took over it in 1857. The fort is not just a symbol of the popular grandeur of the Mughal era, but it has withstood the trials of turbulent times, especially during India’s most historical events that shaped the foundation of the country. This is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the national capital. The UNESCO declared the Red Fort a World Heritage Site in 2007, in recognition of its significance. Red Fort is one of the most celebrated monuments of India and is the symbol of valor and peace. This 17th-century monument is of octagonal shape and it covers around 255 acres of land. The total number of gates here is three. The royals used to enter the fort through the Khizrabad Gate that has been closed for commoners now. The Lahore and Delhi Gates are open to locals and tourists. The fort was planned to house a palace inside its campus. The Red Fort still a historical and architectural wonder.History of Red FortThe construction of the Red Fort started in 1638 with the Emperor Shah Jahan deciding to leave Agra to create a new Mughal capital, Shahjahanabad, which is presently known as the Old Delhi. With architect Lahori’s work at Agra Fort, Shah Jahan was so impressed that he asked him to work on this fort as well. However, despite having elaborate and grand illustrations in the early years, the shine and glory of the Red Fort eventually faded when Shah Jahan fell ill and had to go back to Agra to recuperate. Since 1658, Shah Jahan’s son Aurangzeb, who was known to be power hungry, took the charge of the fort and kept his father imprisoned at Agra Fort for over 8 years until he died. The opulence of the Red Fort and the fortunes of the royal family started diminishing with Aurangzeb ruling the last phase of his reign which was bristled with uncertainty, unfaithfulness and treachery. Persian ruler Nadir Shah attacked the fort in 1739 and looted several valuables, including the Peacock Throne and the Kohinoor diamond. In 1752, the fort belonged to the Maratha kings who defeated the Mughals in a battle. The Marathas had to melt down the silver ceiling of the Diwan-e-Khaas hall in order to raise funds to save the capital from the attack of the Afghan invaders under the leadership of Ahamd Shah Durrani. In 1857, the Britishers made the Red Fort their army base and looted further valuables. In 1947, after gaining independence, the Red Fort was chosen as the main site for public celebration.

15 Best Day Trips from Delhi

Delhi is the capital of India and is one of the oldest cities in the world, with Old Delhi dating back over 5000 years.

The city is full of interesting sites both modern and ancient to entice visitors on their trip to India.

The bustling streets have numerous temples, bustling markets, and interesting glimpses into the modern nation of India.

There are also some great day trip opportunities from the city to satisfy anyone wishing to stay in the local area.

From some of India’s most iconic monuments to small, local villages, there is something to suit everyone within a short trip from the capital.

Here are the 15 best day trips from India.

1. Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

Possibly the most iconic symbol of India, the Taj Mahal can easily be reached within a day trip thanks to a high-speed train.

Nevertheless, we recommend you consider one of the organised tours from Delhi to make sure you can see everything that is worth seeing at the site within a day.

Unlike many major tourist monuments across the world, the Taj Mahal will not leave you disappointed, and many visitors are amazed at just how awe-inspiring it is in real life.

The white marble mausoleum attracts millions of visitors a year, so going with a guide will help you cut the lines – although there are special tickets you can buy if visiting by yourself that will also reduce waiting times.

Recommended tour : Private Taj Mahal & Agra Tour from Delhi by Car

Agra, India

The city next to the Taj Mahal is well worth a day trip in itself if you are looking to avoid the main tourist draws.

The Agra Fort, located within the centre of the city, and Fatehpur Sikri, a collection of palaces and gardens, are both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Built by the Mughal Empire, the city is packed with well-preserved historical sites and cultural experiences.

As with the Taj Mahal, we recommend taking one of the day trip tours from Delhi to maximise your time in the city.

If visiting by yourself, there are, however, a number of guides and mobile apps you can download to get the most out of a day trip.

Aside from the main attractions, there are plenty of temples, gardens and culinary experiences for you to enjoy.

Jaipur, India

The capital of Rajasthan is also a little bit further from Delhi than other day trip options, however there are plenty of organised tours available between the two cities.

It is possible to drive and enjoy a great day trip, and you can also opt to fly there if you have a bigger budget, arriving earlier in the morning and leaving later the same evening.

Named the Pink City due to its distinctively decorated buildings, Jaipur completes India’s Golden Triangle alongside Agra and Delhi.

Like other cities within the triangle, Jaipur is full of historical sites, palaces and gardens.

There is also a large bazaar where you can enjoy an authentic Indian market experience.

Recommended tour : Jaipur Full-Day Tour from Delhi

4. Akshardham

Swaminarayan Akshardham

Located just outside New Delhi, Swaminarayan Akshardham temple was only built in 2005. You would, however, be forgiven for mistaking it for an ancient temple.

It was built using red sandstone sourced from within India, and the elaborate architecture and decor draw heavily from India’s past.

This building is dedicated to the Swaminarayan faith and is the largest temple for the religion in the world.

The centre of the building features a gold statue of the religion’s founder which looms over visitors at 11 feet tall.

Please keep in mind that all electronics, including cameras, are prohibited within the temple and will need to be locked away before you can enter.

Suggested tour : Akshardham Visit with Exhibition including Lunch/Dinner

5. Mathura and Vrindavan

Mathura, India

These two towns are located south of Delhi in the Uttar Pradesh province and are central to the Hari Krishna faith.

The entire region is full of monuments to Lord Krishna, with worshipping temples and beautiful gardens that can be visited by tourists and followers of the Krishna faith alike.

Local guides can show you around both of the towns and teach you about the history of the region, and of the religion, which has been deeply shaped by both towns.

Both towns can be visited together within one day trip.

Available tour : From Delhi: Full-Day Mathura & Vrindavan Tour

6. Kachhpura

Kachhpura

Located on the outskirts of Agra, just past the Taj Mahal, Kachhpura village will give you an entirely different experience of India compared to the major cities and tourist attractions.

The village is an excellent example of the rural lifestyle in central India, and also comes with some great opportunities to look at and purchase traditional Indian handicrafts and artworks.

The Islamic culture of India is also prevalent here, and you can visit the Humayun’s mosque whilst in the village.

The central courtyard has a local market with more of a rural feeling than the larger city markets.

7. Old Delhi

Old Delhi, India

If you want to stay within the city but need an entirely different experience from the modern New Delhi, Old Delhi is a part of the city often overlooked by visitors to India despite having some of the best sites in the city.

Older than almost any other city in the world, Old Delhi was the capital of the Mughal Empire and contains some great examples of traditional Indian culture.

Small eateries, vibrant markets and cow-filled streets are common sights in this part of town, and it can feel like a completely different world from the rest of the city.

If you are staying in New Delhi, this can make a great day trip in itself, and should not be missed.

Available tour : Old Delhi Rickshaw Ride and Guided Tour

8. Mehrauli Archeological Park

Mehrauli Archeological Park

Located just outside of the city proper, Mehrauli Archeological Park is a hidden gem just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Delhi.

The park is packed with over 440 monuments from across India’s history, including temples built during both the Mughal and British Empires.

The area is mostly forested, giving an entirely different vibe from the neighbouring city, and there is a small village in the middle to give you a glimpse of local culture.

The main attractions are the tombs of Balban and Quli Khan, as well as the neighbouring mosque and monuments to ancient kings.

Suggested tour : Mehrauli Archaeological Park Heritage Walk

9. Ranthambhore National Park

Ranthambhore National Park

Wildlife fans will love a day trip to Ranthambhore National Park, where you can discover tigers, leopards and macaques, as well as a whole host of other animals, in their natural habitat in the Indian wilderness.

Located in neighbouring Rajasthan, Ranthambhore can be easily reached on a day trip, either self-guided or as part of a structured tour.

You can take one of the guided tours offered by the park to discover more about the native wildlife of Rajasthan, as well as modern conservation efforts against climate change and poaching.

The transportation network throughout the park is designed to keep visitors safe, and there are facilities scattered throughout the park for eating and freshening up.

10. Chandigarh

Chandigarh, India

Compared to the rest of India, Chandigarh can seem bizarre and out of place.

The first planned city in the country has more in common with modern European towns and cities than it does with nearby Delhi.

The town is known for good weather and great views over the distant mountains.

The wide range of museums, art galleries and carefully arranged gardens will give visitors a peaceful break from the constant sensory overload that many tourists experience in other places in India.

It is a great place to experience India’s answer to high-end shopping, and the cosmopolitan nature of the city has allowed a wide range of international cuisines to thrive.

11. Haridwar and Rishikesh

Haridwar, India

North of Delhi, the Haridwar and Rishikesh region is known as the starting point for tours of the Ganges, and the forested mountains that can be viewed from both towns.

These are great places to experience Hindu culture, and both can easily be covered in a single day trip.

You can take a bridge across the Ganges, sample some of the most unique cuisine in the country and learn more about Hinduism, the most widely-practiced religion in India.

There are, of course, plenty of temples for you to explore in both towns and Haridwar, in particular, is known for excellent street food.

12. Hauz Khas

Hauz Khas

Located on the outskirts of Southern Delhi, Hauz Khas is a creative neighbourhood that manages to combine history with modern culture in an eclectic mix.

Many of the buildings in the area date back to the 14th Century, however they have been painted with modern graffiti giving the average visitor a very unique experience.

The area is filled with quirky restaurants, unique boutiques and independent art spaces that help give Hauz Khas a cool, youthful vibe that will be sure to make for an interesting day trip out of the central city.

13. Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra, India

Kurukshetra is a holy city located north of Delhi in the Haryana province.

There are plenty of excellent religious sites to visit in the city which is not as tourist-filled as other parts of India.

There are many holy sites in the city dedicated to both Islam and Hinduism, however Muslim scriptures have documented the city since before the Mughal Empire, and the city is deeply intertwined with Islamic Indian culture.

There is also an interesting crocodile park on the outskirts of the city, and the streets are well known for the carrot juice sellers who seem to pop up all over the place.

14. Bareilly

Bareilly

Located east of the city in Uttar Pradesh, Bareilly is an excellent example of modern India.

Like every other town in the country, there are many interesting temples for you to visit, and these exhibit some more modern examples of Hindu worship.

Just outside the town, there is a theme park, Fun City, which is popular with local kids and has some great restaurants and an adjoining waterpark called Boond.

The city is best reached by rail if you are planning a day trip, and guided tours from Delhi are available, though not as popular with tourists due to Bareilly being relatively off the radar for most visitors.

Noida, India

Located just outside Delhi proper in Uttar Pradesh, Noida is a haven away from the busy-ness of Delhi.

Compared to most Indian cities, Noida is low on pollution and traffic levels and will seem fairly peaceful if visiting on a day trip away from the nation’s capital.

The Noida Film City is a local hub for the film and TV industry and a great place to spot local celebrities or go check out the latest Bollywood releases.

Shoppers will love the modern mall complexes, and there is a large golf resort within the city for fans of the sport.

Chasing The Unexpected

4 Days in Delhi: An Exciting + Complete Itinerary

As the capital of India, Delhi is the first place where most foreign tourists land and often included in the classic tours to India . They usually visit a couple of popular attractions before moving onto other touristy areas. However, Delhi has far more to offer if you are willing to explore and have enough time at hand. It is an ancient city that has seen numerous invasions and every dynasty, as well as the colonial British rulers, have left their imprint in the form of thousands of monuments. New markets, restaurants, cafes, and shopping malls coexist here seamlessly with centuries-old crumbling edifices, offering a contrasting yet intriguing melange of views.

Before you start

  • I am assuming that you are roaming around using public transport, especially Delhi Metro, which connects almost all corners of the city. In fact, it is far more convenient than personal vehicles that are bound to get stuck in heavy traffic. If you need, cab services, as well as auto-rickshaws, are available too.
  • You can stay anywhere in Delhi but for the sake of convenience, I am assuming that you are staying in South Delhi, near Hauz Khas Village, just because I like the area, you can find great Delhi hotels , and it offers an interesting mix of past and present.
  • It is not mandatory but I believe winter months (late October to early March) are the best to roam around in Delhi because summers can be frighteningly harsh. Check out our guide to the best time to visit India for more info on when to plan your trip to Delhi .

4 Days In Delhi – An Easy + Complete Itinerary

Day 1 in delhi – a walk through the tombs.

You’ll start the first day of your 4-day Delhi itinerary with an unusual morning walk through the city’s spiritual core. I have packed some museum visits as well as an informative light & sound show for the first day, as they teach you about Delhi’s history so that you can better appreciate the places you will visit in the next few days. The day may seem a bit packed, but this will prepare you well for the next few days.

Lodhi Garden

Wake up as early as possible to make the most of the day. Your first stop of the day is Lodhi Gardens, which is a cluster of early medieval tombs from the 15th century. However, a garden was developed later covering the entire area and now it is the favourite jogging spot for the locals. That is why it opens as early as 5 AM while other monuments open much later. So, enjoy a brisk walk through the beautiful park while observing the monuments scattered all over. Give it around a couple of hours for the best experience.

Image: Lodhi Garden in Delhi

Safderjung’s Tomb

This monument is located nearby, on the other side of the road. It is a comparatively newer, 18th-century tomb, probably one of the last great constructions from the Mughal era. It is well-maintained, and photogenic, and will give you some lovely frames and it should not consume more than 30 minutes.

Lodhi Colony & India Habitat Center (IHC)

As you started early, you will be done by 9 AM. Walk towards the India Habitat Center (IHC). As you walk past Lodhi Colony, you will notice a lot of interesting street art too, as this area has been developed as an art district. Once you reach IHC, finally have a well-deserved, classy breakfast at All American Diner. IHC is an interesting space that has been developed as a blend of office spaces, art galleries, auditoriums, and a spot for eclectic socialization. If you want, you can visit the art galleries (there is always some exhibition going on).

Nizamuddin Basti

Post-breakfast, move quickly to Nizamuddin Basti, a medieval village that has refused to change even as the metropolis grew around it. The heart of it is the Mausoleum and shrine of Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya (1238 – 1325 CE), the most revered Sufi saint of Delhi. In western parlance, he can be called the patron saint of Delhi. There are other tombs inside, the most prominent one being that of Amir Khusrau, a poet, musician, and his most famous disciple. If you are new to India, it may be a bit hard to navigate these congested lanes. However, you can hire a guide who can show you around. There are many who organize heritage walks around this area. Maybe you can pre-book them.

Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery

From Nizamuddin, move to nearby Humayun’s Tomb. One of the places to visit in Delhi , this is a massive structure similar to Taj Mahal but it predates it. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site . You can also visit the nearby Sunder Nursery, which is actually a nursery, but with some medieval tombs inside, which gives it a unique aura.

Image: Humayun's Tomb in Delhi

Khan Market

Khan Market is a posh commercial district with many boutique shops, book stores, and of course, many cool restaurants. So, this is where you can have your lunch and then you can take a brisk tour of the market and shop a bit if you are so inclined.

NGMA/National Museum

In the afternoon, you have two options. Doing both would have been great but sadly you may not have time for both. The National Museum will give you an idea about the entire history and heritage of India, while the National Gallery of Modern Arts (NGMA) will introduce you to India’s best artists and sculptors. The choice will be purely based on your taste and interests.

Purana Qila Light & Sound Show

In the evening, you will move towards Purana Qila. It is one of the major monuments in Delhi. The fort is from medieval times but some prehistoric remains have been excavated in the nearby areas, which points to the antiquity of the site. However, I have kept it for the night because there is a daily light and sound show after dark where it tells the entire history of Delhi through laser, voiceover, and music. Both Hindi and English voiceovers are available at different time slots. Post the show, you will be tired. So just get back to HKV, have dinner at one of the restaurants and retire for the day.

Image: Purana Qila Light & Sound Show in Delhi

Day 2 – Old Delhi & More

The primary attraction of the second of your four days in Delhi is the so-called “Old Delhi”, the 17th-century walled city of Shahjahanabad, where the past seamlessly merges with the present. You may have heard of it already, but here is a fun fact, this is NOT the oldest part of Delhi (You will get there on the 4th day of your Delhi itinerary).

Old Delhi is fascinating but can be crowded and confusing. There is a backstory to every narrow lane here and it is a treasure trove for photographers but if you are new, you may get lost. That is why, I suggest that you start early in the morning, and if possible, sign up for a heritage walk to take you through this maze. Walk around Chandni Chowk, Fatehpuri Masjid, Khari Baoli Spice Market, Gurudwara Sheeshganj and of course, the massive Jama Masjid. You can also visit Ghalib ki Haveli, the mansion of the iconic 19th-century poet Mirza Ghalib. Old Delhi is also a heaven for Indian food lovers and you can fill yourself up for the day by trying various things even as you walk around the place.

Image: Temple in Old Delhi

You should be done with Old Delhi by noon. Have something for lunch and then cross the street and enter Red Fort (Lal Qila). This is a massive fortress built around the same time as Old Delhi. The Mughal royals used to live here at one point, so there are palaces and other buildings inside the Fort. You will also find a small museum inside along with a baoli (stepwell).

After Red Fort, quickly move to nearby Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. Memorials of many other important Indian leaders can also be found nearby. This should not take much time to pay your respect and move on.

Your next stop will be the Akshardham Temple. It is not a historical site but a new architectural marvel. It is a bit far off, on the other side of the Yamuna River. You can spend the afternoon here, walking around the gardens. There is a food court too if needed.

Majnu ka Tila

After dark, return and start moving to Majnu Ka Tila, in the northern part of Delhi. This is a unique area where a lot of Tibetan refugees were settled decades ago. So, here, you will find a Tibetan monastery and dozens of restaurants selling Tibetan and Nepali cuisine! So, you will suddenly be transported to a different world here and will be able to try some new cuisines. My personal favourite is the Nepali Thali at Ama Thakali Kitchen, but this is a strictly personal choice.

After the meal, take the long road back to your hotel. However, by that time it will be night and roads will be empty.

Day 3 – Lutyens’ Delhi & Beyond

This day will come to some more major monuments of Delhi (Yes, the list is never-ending!), including some famous and some offbeat ones. Have a quick breakfast at the hotel because the first stop will be a slightly non-touristy area.

Tughlaqabad

Tughlaqabad is not visited by many as it is located a bit far off, in the outskirts of Delhi. Nevertheless, it is a massive complex that was built as a city in the early 14th century. However, it was soon abandoned due to various reasons (you can read up the interesting backstory). Now it is a mysterious necropolis with ruins of the ancient fort, palaces, and tombs. Spend a couple of hours there, soak in the antiquity.

Lotus Temple

Come back to the city and reach the iconic Lotus Temple. It is another modern architectural marvel that has been designed like a lotus flower. It is a house of worship for the Bahai Faith, an intriguing religion formed in 19th-century Persia. Post the visit, you can have lunch at any restaurant at Nehru Place, which is a busy commercial district.

Image: Lotus temple one of the places to visit in delhi

Feroz Shah Kotla

Post lunch, move northwards to reach Feroz Shah Kotla , another relic of a 14th-century city, which was built a few decades after Tughlaqabad. It has a few unique structures including a pyramidal structure and a 2200-year-old pillar of Ashoka the Great, which was later brought here by Feroz Shah Tughlaq.

Agrasen ki Baoli

After Kotla, you will visit the Agrasen ki Baoli, an interesting monument. Baolis are step-wells that were built all over India in ancient times for water supply. Delhi itself has many of them but this is the best-known of them all, now surrounded by skyscrapers on all sides.

Lutyens Delhi

Move towards India Gate in the afternoon and walk around New Delhi. This area is often called Lutyens’ Delhi after the architect who designed it. The British built it as the new capital complex of India and even now it houses all the major government buildings and institutions in India. This is a good area to hang out and even locals arrive here in the evening.

Connaught Place

Later on, move towards Connaught Place (CP). It is another colonial construction, an attractive commercial district that is practically the center of Delhi. This circular market contains scores of high-end stores as well as restaurants. It generally gets a bit too crowded, but you can find a nice place to have dinner and then return to your place for the night.

Day 4 – Delights of South Delhi

This is the final day. You will focus mostly on South Delhi. So, less time spent on commutation and more on exploration!

HKV & Green Park

So, you have been staying around HKV since Day 1 but have not had the time to explore it. Hauz Khas is actually a part of Siri, a 13th-century city. The modern hippie joint has been built on the peripheries of those ancient monuments and walls by the side of a massive lake. So, spend this morning enjoying the delights of Siri, that has been hosting you. You can walk till nearby Green Park Market and you will see many small monuments along the way. Have breakfast at one of the restaurants at Greenpark.

Image: Hauz Khas Village in Delhi

Qutub Minar

After breakfast, drive towards Mehrauli. As mentioned earlier, Mehrauli, on the southern edge of Delhi is the Oldest Part of Delhi, originally built by Rajput rulers more than a thousand years ago. Conquests of Sultans from Afghanistan destroyed the original settlements but parts of the original fortress walls can still be seen. Here, the first stop will be Qutub Minar, the 73-meter tall minaret from the 12th century, built by the earliest sultans of India. The complex has many other interesting structures and it is another UNESCO World Heritage Site of Delhi.

Image: Qutub Minar in Delhi

Mehrauli Archaeological Park

Post Qutub, just move to the adjacent Mehrauli Archaeological Park. It is a massive area of almost 200 acres, with many medieval monuments scattered all over it. Explore the likes of Rajjon ki Baoli, Gandhak ki Baoli, Balban’s Tomb, and many more. Try to find out the unexpected homoerotic backstory in one of the tombs at Jamali Kamali and also visit the Sufi Shrine of Bakhtiyar Kaki, practically the oldest such shrine in Delhi.

Shopping for Handicrafts

Mehrauli and Chattarpur areas have many boutique stores and markets to shop for Indian handicrafts, traditional tools and other items. When packing for India , you should definitely leave some room for the local shopping as you will find plenty of gifts to bring home to friends and family. You can have lunch somewhere in this area and explore these options for a while.

Champa Gali

This is your last evening in Delhi, so make it relaxed and delightful at Chamba Gali in Saket, which is not far from Mehrauli. This is one of the newly developed, coolest, hippiest hangouts in Delhi full of chic cafes and restaurants. You can spend the rest of the evening here, have your coffees followed by dinner and then return to your room at night.

Beyond Delhi

Once you are done with Delhi, you will naturally move on to other places. Delhi is centrally located and well connected with dozens of other exciting destinations. Most people yearn to visit Agra and Jaipur as they are the most famous ones. However, my personal favourite is the Himalayan states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand . I would also encourage everyone to explore more of the unexplored gems of India for more unique experiences.

Where Did It All Go Wrong for J.Lo?

Weak tour sales, a baffling album-movie-documentary, and general online mockery—why does everyone seem to have a problem with Jennifer Lopez?

four day tour from delhi

In February, Jennifer Lopez released a bundle of multimedia projects that were each part of a larger statement—arguably, a misguided one—about the power of love or something. One of those was This Is Me … Now , a very cheesy and otherwise unremarkable late-career pop album. The other was This Is Me … Now: A Love Story , a loosely biographical, somewhat egomaniacal adaptation of the album into a blockbuster musical full of astrological melodrama, flashy choreography, and celebrity cameos. Finally, a couple of weeks later, Lopez released The Greatest Love Story Never Told , a behind-the-scenes documentary that’s chiefly about the making of This Is Me … Now: A Love Story but is more notable for its awkwardly invasive glimpses into J.Lo’s famed romance with a dutifully supportive but quite visibly mortified Ben Affleck.

The Ringer ’s Streaming Guide

A collage of characters from popular TV shows, from Barry to Succession

There’s a lot of TV out there. We want to help: Every week, we’ll tell you the best and most urgent shows to stream so you can stay on top of the ever-expanding heap of Peak TV.

This is all, taken together, as overproduced and exasperating as it sounds. Each project has been met with mixed-to-bad reviews and general mockery on social media. J.Lo herself admitted to Variety that she made and self-financed the musical, to the tune of $20 million, even though everyone in her creative orbit, including coproducer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and castmate Jane Fonda, warned her about the risk of further overexposure of her relationship with Affleck. But J.Lo persisted, and the result is a roundly uncanny production that’s distressingly reminiscent of Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself but also James Cameron’s Avatar and also Paul Hunter’s music video for “Wild Wild West.” Fat Joe plays J.Lo’s therapist, and Jane Fonda plays Sagittarius, in the most cringeworthy release involving either Lopez or Affleck since—too fittingly, really— Gigli. Ticket sales for the tour to promote This Is Me … Now have been exceptionally weak; J.Lo has hastily rebranded the concert series as a greatest hits tour.

The overexposure of pop stars, to a fault, is routine. We know perhaps a bit too much about J.Lo’s pop contemporaries, too, and look: It’s not like Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake haven’t also pushed their own post-peak vanity projects to weak receptions in recent years. But J.Lo has, for much of her career, been a curiously unsympathetic figure, a stone-cold climber whose missteps draw a great deal of schadenfreude and now something of a backlash.

Lopez has long been a more divisive figure than meets the eye. This was the crux of the drama a couple of months ago on Saturday Night Live , concerning host Ayo Edebiri, costar of The Bear , and musical guest Lopez, as the latter was promoting her aforementioned projects a couple of weeks before their release dates. A day before the taping in New York, TMZ resurfaced some old footage of Edebiri, as a guest on Laci Mosley’s podcast, Scam Goddess , saying Lopez “can’t sing” and describing her musical career as “one long scam.” These were jokes , in one sense—a comedic actor skewering a pop star in a harmlessly petty conversation on a podcast brought to you by Team Coco—but then, yes, actually, this has always been the shadow discourse about J.Lo. She can’t sing, and not in the normal way that a lot of pop stars slathered in Auto-Tune can’t sing; J.Lo goes so far as to hide behind uncredited vocals from other singers, from Ashanti (“I’m Real,” “Ain’t It Funny”) to Meghan Trainor (“Ain’t Your Mama”) . These criticisms are common enough that Lopez, commenting on the footage of Edebiri, told Variety that she’s indeed “heard similar things said about me throughout my career.” While Lopez would publicly insist that Edebiri’s comments were water under the bridge, Edebiri led off her SNL appearance with a sketch referencing her criticism of Lopez , in a half-kidding ritual self-humiliation. This was Lorne Michaels making the most of an awkward situation, sure, but also it felt like Lopez putting Edebiri in her place, even if she wasn’t directly responsible for the sketch’s development. Lopez also made a point of telling Variety that Edebiri apologized to her “with tears in her eyes.”

Such is the role Lopez never sought but has played on and off for decades now: J.Lo as pop villain—or, if not quite villain, a sort of hapless foil. Her famous feud with Mariah Carey in the early 2000s gave us the iconic quote from Carey after she was asked about J.Lo: “I don’t know her.” This was a rivalry born out of Carey’s divorce from her label boss, Tommy Mottola at Sony, who reportedly led the label to aggressively promote Lopez and scornfully sabotage the career of his ex-wife. Mottola and the tabloids pitted these two women against each other, and while the rivalry never escalated into any direct confrontation or explicit denunciation, J.Lo has always come across as the loser—a woman out of her depth.

J.Lo got her start as a Fly Girl on In Living Color and as the breakout star of Gregory Nava’s charming biopic Selena. This was the 1990s. These were, in retrospect, the only years when Lopez was so uncontroversially beloved, before her disastrous involvement with Puff Daddy, before her cold war with Mariah, and before her multimedia reach, far exceeding her grasp, could culminate in something as unwieldy and off-putting as This Is Me … Now: A Love Story. Much of the cynicism about J.Lo over the years, up to its latest climax, concerns her particular proportion of fame and talent. There’s the sense that even the heights of her own career don’t quite compare to those of her contemporaries or earn her the same sort of everlasting goodwill. Mariah Carey was arguably the most formidable female pop singer of her generation, with a fearsome command of five octaves, while Jennifer Lopez was a great dancer with a relatively weak singing voice, evident to anyone who has ever intently listened to the chorus of “Waiting for Tonight.” This contrast was always a bit damning, even if the underlying rivalry was false and, in any case, wasn’t J.Lo’s fault or problem. But J.Lo is a talented entertainer, undeniably, even as she struggles to narrow her ambitions in response to that pesky, inevitable question: talented at what, exactly?

This Is Me … Now: A Love Story possibly would’ve worked better as a back-to-basics dance showcase for Lopez, a savvy capitalization on the goodwill from her impressive performance alongside Shakira at Super Bowl LIV. But, of course, it had to be an overwrought showcase for J.Lo as an actor, singer, writer, producer, and lover, too. “Bennifer” is a tabloid romance for the ages, sure, but also the most consistently overexposed aspect of J.Lo’s legacy and one that’s dramatically at odds with her posturing as “Jenny from the block,” when she is, at this point, so clearly and thoroughly a creature of Hollywood, subject of so much resentment, exactly as Fonda warned her.

Updated: April 10, 2024 – AUGUSTA, Ga. – The first round of the 88th Masters Tournament could be affected by inclement weather as dangerous conditions are predicted to arrive early Thursday.

There’s a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms prior to 1 p.m., with wind gusts of 40-45 mph between 8 a.m. ET and noon. That would create potentially dangerous conditions and push back tee times, possibly bringing Friday into play for the conclusion of Round 1.

Last year’s Masters was also affected by weather, with second-round play pushed to Saturday and third-round play pushed to Sunday, when eventual winner Jon Rahm and co-runner-up Brooks Koepka played 30 holes.

Severe weather began slamming the southern United States on Tuesday night, continued into Wednesday and was expected to reach the Augusta area first thing Thursday.

According to the Masters Tournament weather update:

“A cold front is forecast to bring a band of rain and scattered thunderstorms through the region between 6 a.m.-1 p.m. ET Thursday. Heavy rainfall and occasional wind gusts of 40-45 mph are anticipated over this period. A lull in precipitation should occur behind the cold front between 1-4 p.m. ET before scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms drift back into the region for the late afternoon and evening hours.

“Windy conditions persist Friday under mostly sunny skies as a dry and stable airmass settles into the area. Mostly sunny skies can be expected through the weekend with west to southwesterly winds in the 7-15 mph range.”

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms prior to 1 p.m. ET. Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Forecast rainfall: 1-1 1/2 inches. Wind gusts of 40-45 mph between 8 a.m.-noon. Low: 65F High: 77F Winds: S shifting SW 15-25; gusts 30-35 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny and windy. Noticeably less humid. Low: 54F High: 72F Winds: W 15-20; gusts 30 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny and warm. Low: 49F High: 78F Winds: WNW turning W 7-15 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny and warm. Low: 53F High: 84F Winds: W turning SW 7-15 mph.

The Masters has dealt with its share of weather conditions in recent years. The final round of Tiger Woods’ iconic 2019 victory came hours earlier than scheduled to avoid impending storms. Last year’s leaders played 30 holes on Sunday as storms wiped out much of the third round.

This year’s Masters is largely devoid of rainy conditions, with Thursday as the lone exception. According to the official Augusta National weather forecast, there is an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, with an expected rainfall of 1.00-1.50 inches.

“Isolated light showers are possible Tuesday and Wednesday before rain and thunderstorms arrive early Thursday and continue throughout the morning hours. A cold front is expected to pass through in the early afternoon, with diminishing precipitation chances for the remainder of Thursday. Thunderstorm wind gusts of 40-45 mph will be possible,” the official forecast stated.

Conditions are expected to clear up by Thursday afternoon and stay dry through the rest of the tournament. Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of the official Augusta National weather forecast:

  • Monday: Mostly sunny. Low: 48F High: 79F Winds: S 7-10 mph
  • Tuesday : Cloudy with a 25% chance of light showers. Low: 58F High: 77F Winds: SSE 5-10 mph
  • Wednesday : Cloudy with a 20% chance of light showers during the day and a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Low: 62F High: 80F Winds: S-SE 10-15, gusts up to 20 mph
  • Thursday : Mostly cloudy with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Windy. Forecast rainfall: 1.00-1.50” Low: 65F High: 78F Winds: S shifting SW 15-20 gusts up to 30 mph
  • Friday : Mostly sunny and windy; noticeably less humid. Low: 56F High: 73F Winds: WNW 15-20 gusts up to 30 mph
  • Saturday : Mostly sunny and warm. Low: 50F High: 78F Winds: WNW turning W 7-12 mph
  • Sunday*: Mostly cloudy. Low: 61F: High 82F Winds: SW 6-13 mph, gusts of 17 mph

Arvind Kejriwal Seeks Supreme Court Relief. What Happens If No Hearing Today

Arvind Kejriwal Seeks Supreme Court Relief. What Happens If No Hearing Today

Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court after the high court setback

If Arvind Kejriwal's challenge to yesterday's high court order does not come up in the Supreme Court today, the Delhi Chief Minister will have to remain in Tihar jail for another four days. The court is closed for the next four days. According to Supreme Court's calendar, the court is closed for Eid-Ul-Fitr on Thursday, a local holiday on Friday, then comes the weekend. The court will reopen on Monday.

Mr Kejriwal's counsel, Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, raised the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud this morning and sought an urgent hearing. The Chief Justice refused to specify if a hearing will be granted today. "We will see, we will look into it," he said, adding that he will pass appropriate orders during the day.

The high court yesterday dismissed Mr Kejriwal's challenge to his March 21 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to Delhi's now-scrapped liquor policy. The court held that the central agency was left with "little option" after the AAP leader skipped multiple summonses in the money laundering case. It also pointed to the ED's allegation that Mr Kejriwal was actively involved in the use and concealment of alleged proceeds of crime.

The court stressed that there is no separate protocol for a probe agency to follow for questioning a common man and a Chief Minister.

Promoted Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com

"Further, this Court holds that this Court would not lay down two different categories of laws, one for common citizens, and the other granting special privilege to be extended by investigating agency to a Chief Minister or any other person in power only on the basis of being in that public office since that public office is enjoyed by that public figure due to the mandate of the public," Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said in her statement.

AAP leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has said they are hopeful of a favourable verdict in Supreme Court. He said the ED and the CBI did not find even a rupee during their searches in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. "They are talking about crores. But ED and CBI have not found even a rupee of illegal money. Witnesses have been pressured to change their statements and say what ED wants them to," he said. "This issue is not about money laundering. This is the biggest political conspiracy in India's history."
