Carnival Cruise Line (Carnival) and its local crewing partner United Philippine Lines (UPL) inaugurate the UPL-Carnival Team Member Center, a two-level state-of-the-art hub in response to the growing global demand for seafarers as the global cruise industry recovers from the pandemic.

Prominent government officials who attended the inauguration ceremony included Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Commission on Higher Education Secretary Prospero de Vera III, and Pasay Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano. The Philippines' First Lady, Louise Araneta-Marcos, presided over the Anchored: From the Philippines to the World inaugural ceremony.

UPL-Carnival TM Center is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment and well-trained staff, Filipinos looking to explore the world as shipboard talents can expect an easy and efficient application and training process. We guarantee smooth sailing from the get-go, according to Carnival Cruise Line Crew and Travel Operations Vice President Richard Brearley.

Carnival was named Best Ship App by Porthole Cruise Readers' Choice Awards (2019 & 2020) for its Carnival Hub app, which operates in Airplane Mode and eliminates roaming fees. The app connects to the ship's Wi-Fi.

Guests can use the Carnival Hub app to interact, browse events onboard and the ship's map, plan reservations, and complete online check-in.

For UPL-Carnival Team Center, they have the Team Member Hub (TMHub) app, which allows members onboard to communicate with Live Agents and people offshore. The developer says that this app does not share user data with other corporations or organizations for security reasons.

The TMHub app also provides members with Assignment Information, Required Documents, Enhanced Flights, Hotel, and Meet & Greet Information, Notifications & Alerts for anticipated travel delays & other travel related information, and much more.

Carnival chose to locate the training hub inside the campus of STI Pasay-EDSA to have access to STI students taking hospitality, tourism, and culinary programs, as well as marine transportation and marine engineering.

The Philippines has always been one of Carnival’s key suppliers of shipboard talent. The firm presently employs roughly 50,000 people and is trying to expand this number for its more than 90 vessels, which serve tens of thousands of passengers globally each year.

UPL, in partnership with Carnival, has been helping Carnival meet its enormous manpower requirement by creating a system that's designed to help potential Filipino seafarers across the country have a seamless employment journey – from the time they graduate from maritime school until they step onboard a Carnival cruise ship.

Brearley said Carnival expects that global demand for Filipino seafarers will continue to grow. United Philippine Lines Executive Director and COO Leo Oscar B. Tanseco noted Filipinos have long been known worldwide for being “friendly, hard-working, and highly adaptable.”

Carnival cruise line recognized for empowering filipino seafarers.

Carnival Cruise Line was recognized this week at the Gawad Alab ng Lahi Awards in New York City for its efforts to continually empower Filipino seafarers. This first-of-its-kind awards ceremony recognized individuals and organizations contributing to the betterment of the lives and welfare of Filipino people in both the United States and the Philippines. Carnival was recognized as a leading employer of Filipino seafarers over the company’s 50-year history.

Richard Brearley, Carnival’s vice president of crew and travel operations, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

“Carnival would not be the vibrant company we all know today, with so many successes over the past 50 years, without our colleagues from the Philippines,” Brearley said. “We pride ourselves on being a family, and at Carnival, anyone with the desire to succeed can do so. We look forward to continuing to have a strong partnership with our Filipino team members for many, many years to come.”

The ceremony was held at the Whitby Hotel in New York City on Monday evening, July 11. The awards were sponsored by the Philippine Consulate General of New York and the Hiraya Foundation for Filipino-American Heritage Preservation.

Job Summary:

As an Invoice Processing Associate, you will be responsible for efficiently and accurately processing invoices, ensuring that all financial transactions are completed in a timely and compliant manner. Your role will contribute to the company's overall financial stability and support our department in managing accounts payable. You will work closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless invoice processing as well as create reporting and status for forecasting purposes.

Essential functions:

• Invoice Verification: Review and validate incoming invoices for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company policies and procedures while processing them in our Invoice Management System
• Reporting: Generate and analyze reports to track invoice processing metrics, identify process improvements, and optimize payment cycles.
• Vendor Communication: Maintain regular communication with vendors to address invoice discrepancies, resolve payment issues, and build positive vendor relationships.
• Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve discrepancies, exceptions, and disputes related to invoices, working with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain organized and up-to-date records of invoices, payment details, and related documents.
• Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the invoice processing workflow.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience in invoice processing, accounts payable, or a related financial role.
• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.
