From Mexican tacos to gourmet burgers and health-conscious meals, you can find a wide variety of delicious fare served by the many food trucks scattered throughout the city. Indulge in the local flavors and experience a culinary adventure like no other.

Art lovers  will also find their place in Austin. The city has a vibrant art scene, with numerous galleries and museums showcasing diverse artwork. Mission Trail hike & bike system is a 13.9-mile loop trail that covers San Antonio’s five Spanish colonial missions: San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo), Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada. Start at San Antonio River and S. Alamo Street Bridge. Considered an easy route. Expect about 4 hours or so to complete. Watch for bird species along the trail.

Consider visiting Fort Worth if you haven’t yet. Many think Dallas is better than Cowtown. But Big D, just 30 minutes east of Fort Worth, is not better, just different. Both cities have something different for the solo traveler to explore.

When visiting Fort Worth, you’ll want to put the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards high on your list, especially if you like western wear and honky tonks, and even luxury gifts. This area in the city has it all …and cowboys and longhorns to boot. Longhorn cattle drives on E. Exchange Street happen twice daily – 11:30 am and 4 pm. And you may very well see a horse inside a bar as it’s legal to bring horses inside a bar in Texas!

There used to be free parking everywhere, but it’s hard to find now. But once you park, the area is entirely walkable.

Dallas, Texas

Suppose you’re curious about the history of our 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy. If you are, there are plenty of attractions in the historic district of Dallas that depict his life. One popular tour is the JFK Assassination And Museum Tour , but there are many more.

Even though I’ve been traveling alone for quite some time, I’m seeing female solo travel rise within my realm of friends. It’s hard to find someone to travel with at my age because of family obligations. When you’re young, not so many things are holding you back. Planning a solo trip requires carefully considering how you’ll get there, where you will stay, and figuring out an itinerary.

Here are some travel tips to help you plan an enjoyable trip.

Transportation

Having a car is often the most convenient option when getting around big cities in Texas, as many attractions are spread out. Driving your car or renting a car allows you the flexibility to explore at your own pace and venture off the beaten path. However, alternative transportation options are available if you prefer not to drive or have no car access. Our major cities have well-developed public transportation systems, including buses and light rail, which can be used to navigate within the city. Additionally, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are widely available in urban areas.

Accommodation

When choosing accommodations for your solo trip, consider location, safety, and budget. For city escapes, look for centrally located hotels or boutique accommodations that offer easy access to attractions and public transportation. If you’re seeking a nature retreat, consider camping or staying in cabins within or near the parks.

Before setting off on your solo adventure, create a flexible itinerary that includes a mix of must-see attractions and free time for exploration and relaxation. Consider joining guided tours or activities to enhance your experience and meet fellow travelers.

Last, I recommend hiring a local guide whenever possible to show you around if you’ve never been to a city. Whenever I go on walking tours with a guide, I learn much more about the place than on a self-guided walking tour.

Is Solo Female Travel In Texas Safe?

According to Travel Safe – Abroad , Texas is a safe state for female travelers. While exact crime statistics vary from city to city, overall there is a low risk of terrorism, scams, and pickpocketing. This helps to make it one of the best solo trips in the US .

Of course, crime can and does happen here, though it is more concentrated in the bigger cities like Houston, especially in downtown areas where you will want to be on higher alert.

Texas is the second-largest state in the USA , in terms of both population and land mass. The Lone Star State covers 268,597 square miles, and the population is around 30 million.

In terms of location, Texas is the most central of the southern states.

There are borders between Texas and four US states:

On the southern side, Texas borders Mexico . The state also boasts more than 350 miles of coastline and its shores are lapped by the Gulf of Mexico. 

Getting To Texas

The state highway system includes interstate and US highways, as well as state highways and many other roads. Texans drive on the left and it’s legal to pass on the right as long as there’s not a solid dividing line or a No Passing Zone sign.

It’s important to remember that Texas is big! Many first-time visitors underestimate how far apart things can be. If you want to see a large portion of the state, you will need to be prepared to drive — a lot! 

For example, if you want to spend time in trendy Dallas and then head to Big Bend National Park, that drive will take you about eight hours.

So, make sure to do your research ahead of time so you don’t try to pack in too much at once. You also want to allow plenty of time to get from Point A to Point B.

Trains and Buses

Texas has around 20 Amtrak stations. You can reach Texas from other states via services such as the Heartland Flyer, a daily passenger train that travels between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. 

Another option is to use Greyhound buses. There are around 150 stopping points throughout Texas.

Do take extra care if you choose this option, especially when departing from or arriving at more remotely located bus stops. Planning ahead for onward travel is always a very wise move and can help solo female travelers in Texas stay safe.

Getting Around Texas As A Solo Traveler

For a solo trip to Texas, you may prefer to drive your own vehicle or a rental car. The state has a comprehensive road network – with business, farm, recreational, and toll roads as well as US, state, and interstate highways.

I’ve lived in the Dallas area since 2006. Located in northern Texas, it’s a very popular place to visit thanks to the many interesting things to do for all ages here.

If you fly into the state, you’re more likely to arrive here than anywhere else. You also get two for the price of one here, because Fort Worth is only 30 miles from Dallas and shouldn’t be missed if you want to experience authentic Texas charm.

When you first arrive to Dallas, grab your walking shoes and take a city tour to get your bearings while seeing the highlights. Group tours also offer a great way to meet fellow explorers. A few popular options include:

The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive is considered the best sightseeing route in the park because of the great variety of scenery, including rocky landscapes and wildflowers in season (late February through October).

If you like to hike, there are several short routes along the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive to take. These include the Santa Elena Canyon Loop at the end.

Just 7.9 miles from the beginning of the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive is Sotol Vista , a lookout spot that provides a gorgeous view of the park and Santa Elena Canyon in the distance. It’s also a great place for seeing the stars.

Two other trails offering epic views that should not be missed are the Window Trail and the Lost Mine Trail .

Big Bend also offers wildlife watching, hot springs, canoeing, and clear night skies for stargazing. Try to time your trip during a new moon to have the best view of the star-filled sky. It is truly spectacular!

Texas is (one of) our home state(s), and it is endlessly diverse, packing everything from deserts to cities to canyons to wine country into one incredibly epic state.

Texas is arguably the US state that we know best. We were both born there, I lived in Austin for a few years as a child, we’ve lived in both San Antonio and Austin together as adults, and having deep family roots in Austin means that even when we don’t call Texas home, we continually return to visit.

Probably the best-known of all these weekend getaways in Texas on the overall domestic and international tourism scene, Austin is known for its live music, incredible festivals (most notably the famous SXSW), and excellent food.

Be sure to stroll through Zilker Park or head out onto Lady Bird Lake, hit up the boutiques and street art around South Congress , check out the State Capitol, visit Mount Bonnell, and sample a bit of Austin’s famous nightlife during your weekend in Austin .

San Antonio

Home to Texas’ most famous building (the Alamo), our former home city of San Antonio is easily one of the best cities for weekend trips in Texas.

Yes, check out the Alamo, but get beyond it too: San Antonio is home to Texas’ only UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 18th-century San Antonio Missions, and the Alamo is one of only several properties to be included–and it’s arguably the least interesting of them all (personally, my favorites are Mission San Jose and Mission Espada).

While spending a weekend in San Antonio , you’ll no doubt want to hit the famous Riverwalk once or twice, but consider also visiting the Japanese Tea Garden, the incredible Witte Museum, and the Majestic Theater.

If everything is bigger in Texas, it might just be biggest in Dallas: known for big hair, big (oil) money, and big buildings, Dallas is a quintessentially Texan city–and also one of the fastest-growing cities in the USA, with an excellent food scene and plethora of things to do.

Of course, no weekend trip to Dallas would be complete without a somber exploration of the assassination of President Kennedy, whose murder in Dallas in 1963 is one of the most haunting in the USA’s collective memory.

On a lighter note, though, Dallas offers far more than morbid history: with phenomenal shopping (not even kidding, people from surrounding states flock to Dallas on the weekends for its shopping), excellent skyline views at Reunion Tower, and great gardens and museums (the Dallas Arboretum is stunning), you’ll find plenty of fun things to do during a weekend in Dallas .

You can even add on mini day trips to other places in the metro area, like Grapevine and Frisco, Texas !

Though it’s easy to lump Fort Worth in with its more famous next-door neighbor of Dallas, the city is absolutely distinct and has a vibe all its own.

The Fort Worth Stockyards was the go-to spot for cowboys and livestock as they moved west during parts of the 19th century, but today, they are part of Ft. Worth’s popular historic district, where restaurants, bars, and honky-tonks at what was once the “Cowtown” where ranchers would stop with their livestock.

Located east of El Paso, the stunning Guadalupe Mountains National Park is home to the four highest peaks in Texas, located in the incredibly vast Chihuahuan Desert, and is also known for its incredible fall foliage.

With a surprisingly mild climate for much of the year, Guadalupe Mountains National Park makes for a fantastic Texas getaway destination.

Be sure to make time to hop across the New Mexico state line and visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park, too–it’s practically next door and is one of the coolest weekend trips near Texas.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

The most notable feature of Dinosaur Valley State Park can be easily guessed from its name: if you head down to the river, you’ll be able to spot actual dinosaur footsteps, fossilized and frozen in time, in the riverbed.

With 20 miles of trails and a river to enjoy, it’s safe to say that the fossils aren’t the only draw, either.

If you do head out to Dinosaur Valley State Park, be sure to spend some time in the charming town of Glen Rose, as well!

Pedernales Falls State Park (+ Johnson City)

Packed with both hiking trails and swimming holes (aka pools formed in between each of the small waterfalls in the river), Pedernales Falls State Park makes for an incredibly fun Texas weekend getaway, and one of my personal favorites dating back to childhood!

In addition to the park itself, it’s worth mentioning that Pedernales Falls is located practically next door to Johnson City , the former home of President Johnson (though, fun fact, the town is not named after the president or his family) and close to the current home of the LBJ Ranch, which is now a National Historic Site.

The Lone Star State’s small towns are among my absolute favorite places to visit in Texas: not only is the state littered with adorable, well-preserved 18th and 19th-century downtowns, you’ll also find a lot of lesser-known culture in them!

For example, while it’s well-known that Texan and Mexican cultures have close ties, how many non-Texans know that there are strong veins of German, Czech, and even Alsatian heritage still running through some of the best small towns in Texas ?

Here are some of the best small-town weekend getaways in Texas!

Fredericksburg

Known for its prevalent German heritage and many, many wineries, Fredericksburg is the perfect Texas getaway for wine lovers!

With plenty of vineyards to choose from, not to mention a plethora of great restaurants and shops in town, Fredericksburg is easily among the top weekend getaways in Texas.

Some of the best things to do in Fredericksburg (beyond the wineries, that is), include shopping the boutiques on Main Street, visiting the National Museum of the Pacific War, day-tripping to the tiny town of Luckenbach, watching the bats at Old Tunnel State Park, and enjoying a hearty German meal or two.

New Braunfels

Located between Austin and San Antonio, the originally German town of New Braunfels is one of the best-known weekend getaways in Texas for those who live in either Austin or San Antonio, partially because of access and partially because of how many classic Texas pastimes you can find there.

Whether you want to float the Guadalupe River, go dancing in the classic Gruene Hall, check out the original Schlitterbahn, or visit the incredible Natural Bridge Caverns, New Braunfels has you covered.

There are plenty of reasons that Ennis could qualify as one of the best small town weekend getaways in Texas–its cute historic district, great Czech food, and annual Polka festival among them–but the absolute best reason to spend a weekend in Ennis comes around in April: bluebonnet season.

Home to 40 miles of what is called the Official Bluebonnet Trail of Texas, there is no better place to admire Texas’ iconic–and absolutely stunning–wildflowers each spring.

Once known primarily as the home of Baylor University, Waco is now even more widely known for something entirely different: home improvement, or more specifically, Chip and Joanna Gaines.

The Gaines, who are Waco locals, gained immense popularity with their HGTV show Fixer Upper and brought some of that fame home to Waco by opening up the Magnolia Market at the Silos in 2015.

Part store, part bakery, and part event space, the Silos (as they’re known around town) have propelled Waco onto the tourism map, drawing visitors from across the country to the small town of Waco.

The city has seen a predictable explosion of excellent restaurants and things to do in Waco thanks to the popularity of the Silos.

Home to just 13 official residents, the positively minuscule town of Luckenbach is well-known as a country music hotspot, with a popular dance hall and far more live shows than one would expect from a town of merely 13 people!

While it would take a serious amount of dedication to turn Luckenbach into a standalone Texas weekend destination, nearby attractions like Fredericksburg, Old Tunnel State Park, and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area can be combined with Luckenbach to form a fantastic getaway!

Known for its quirky art installations (complete with works by Andy Warhol in its small museum), the small town of Marfa, Texas is perhaps most famous for how utterly unexpected it is.

Featuring excellent food, a location near-ish to Big Bend National Park (hint: don’t try to day trip between the two), and the otherworldly Marfa Lights, Marfa is a captivating town that is all the more enchanting for the fact that it is located in the middle of nowhere.

Located deep in the desert of West Texas, Marfa is often said to be home to the smallest Prada store in the world–though it is never open. 

The store (technically an art display) is actually located in nearby Valentine–but it’s a credit to the whimsy of Marfa that the installation is so strongly associated with the town despite having a (slightly) different address.

Set less than an hour from the state capital of Austin, the  delightful town of Wimberley, Texas  is well-known in the Texas Hill Country for its artistic vibe, many whimsical touches (including 30 uniquely painted boot statues spread around town), its famous natural swimming holes, and its proximity to many vineyards and distilleries.

It also happens to be one of our personal favorite Hill Country towns!

The best things to do in Wimberley include going for a swim in the infamous  Jacob’s Well  or Blue Hole during the summer (both of which you’ll need to snag advance reservations for), browsing art and antiques, doing a wine tasting (or several), and climbing Mount Baldy for excellent views of the Texas Hill Country.

Wimberley can be easily combined with a trip to Austin or even San Antonio and is within close proximity of other central Texas highlights like Fredericksburg, Johnson City, and Canyon Lake .

… But that being said, it also makes a fantastic standalone destination, and once you arrive, you may find it difficult to leave!

Dripping Springs

Located just outside of Austin and nestled in the Texas Hill Country, the small town of Dripping Springs is primarily known for two things: weddings and Hamilton Pool Preserve, which has become one of the most recognizable Texas landmarks over the last decade or so.

The many wineries surrounding Dripping Springs make it a prime wedding venue in Texas, though of course its vineyards, distilleries, and even olive farm all make the town worth visiting even without a wedding.

Then, of course, there’s Instagram-famous Hamilton Pool, the natural pool that was carved out of limestone when a river caved in thousands of years ago, leaving a refreshing hangout (complete with a 50-foot waterfall!) behind for generations of Texans to enjoy.

Beach Getaways in Texas

I’ll be perfectly honest: as both a lover of Texas and a lover of beaches, you’ll never catch me saying that Texas’ beaches are among the best in the country… but if you’re looking to soak up some saltwater and enjoy a laid-back beach town or two, you definitely have some solid weekend trips in Texas to choose from!

South Padre Island

Located on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, South Padre Island is among the most popular weekend getaways in Texas for people hoping to hit the beach, from laid-back retirees to young families–but during Spring Break, it becomes the most popular party destination in Texas.

With long stretches of beach, a turtle sanctuary, and plenty of classic beach town activities, South Padre is arguably the most beloved beach getaway in Texas (though admittedly, if you grew up in Texas, that probably depends on where your family headed).

On a personal note, the island will always hold a special place in our hearts for the fact that we spent our first wedding anniversary there!

Port Aransas

Located on Mustang Island, charming Port Aransas is certainly one of Texas’ best beach getaways but is perhaps even better known for its many fishing opportunities and incredible dolphin sightings.

Be sure to head over to both Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island State Park to enjoy the many local beaches while there!

There’s a reason that Galveston is one of the best-known beach destinations in Texas!

Home to sandy beaches, plenty of fishing, the beautiful Strand Historic District, family-friendly amusement parks, and even stunning historical homes like Bishop’s Palace to tour, Galveston has something to offer all kinds of visitors–especially given its location, which makes it an incredibly convenient weekend getaway from Houston.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio)

Located in San Antonio and nestled next to a former quarry, Six Flags Fiesta Texas (and its attached water park, White Water Bay) is home to some incredible roller coasters (Poltergeist, Superman, and Iron Rattler were endlessly exciting for me as a child, and held up well into adulthood), as well as plenty of family-friendly options.

Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington)

The original Six Flags park (though not the oldest counting properties that the brand acquired later), Six Flags Over Texas is packed with rides and shows, including some truly incredible roller coasters–the New Texas Giant is among the most popular.

Opening in 1961 as the first park belonging to the Six Flags brand, it’s at this park you can peak into a bit of Texas history that has now become a national brand: “Six Flags” is a reference to the six flags that have ruled over Texas since the 1500s (Spain, France, Mexico, the USA, the Confederacy, and briefly, Texas itself as an independent nation).

More than 50 years later, Six Flags Over Texas endures as a beloved Texas weekend destination!

Schlitterbahn (New Braunfels)

While the Schlitterbahn brand has several parks now, the original–and biggest–is located in New Braunfels and has been open seasonally since 1979.

Half of Schlitterbahn New Braunfels uses spring-fed river water from the Comal River to feed its rides, making it one of the more nature-friendly water parks around.

• The Bat Bridge : The Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge houses the largest urban population of Mexican free-tailed bats in the world, with up to 1.5 million bats taking residence. Over 100,000 visitors come every year to watch the bats emerge.
• Lady Bird Lake : Formerly known as Town Lake, Lady Bird Lake is a reservoir in downtown Austin that was created by the Longhorn Dam in the 1960s at the (then) eastern border of the City of Austin. Open for rowing, swimming, and fishing.
• Mount Bonnell : Alongside the Lake Austin portion of the Colorado River, Mount Bonnell offers stunning views of the City of Austin, and has been a popular tourist destination since 1850.
• Capitol Building . The Texas State Capitol was completed in 1888, and is a stunning example of 19th century architecture. Based on the United States Capitol, the Texas State Capitol surpasses the United States Capitol by 15 feet. Admission is free, and the Capitol Visitor’s Center has free brochures for self-guided tours.

• Check out the 357-acre University of Texas campus, including the LBJ Library and Museum, and the Darrell K. Royal/Texas Memorial Stadium.
• Schoal Creek trail is in the heart of downtown Austin, eventually joining the Town Lake Trail at what is now Lady Bird Lake. The walk is about 4.4 miles (7.1 km), and takes you through the greenbelt and a number of parks.
• A serial killer haunted Austin in the 19th century, and the city erected moonlight towers, many of which are still standing today. You may spot them as you walk through the city!

• Don’t forget to hydrate ! Drink plenty of water , especially in the hotter months.
• The “lakes” are not really lakes, but rather parts of the Colorado River that have been designated as lakes by small dams. The lakes all maintain a current from the Colorado River.
• E. 6th Street is often closed to traffic on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and open only to pedestrians.
• Austin is famous for its numerous festivals, in particular South by Southwest ( SXSW ). Any local knows to avoid Austin during SXSW – when Silicon Valley essentially invades Austin. History buffs can beef up their fact armory with a visit to the historic 18th-century Spanish mission, the Alamo . Walk on the very grounds where Texas gained its independence from Mexico at the site that now operates as a museum.

• I've visited the USA a number of times, but this year, I'll be going it solo again to discover (and re-discover) some of America's top tourist destinations.
• San Francisco, California, is one of the many bucket list destinations in America I'll be visiting in 2024, where I'll visit iconic attractions like Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf, among others.
• From New York's treasured Thousand Islands to East Coast gems like Bar Harbor and further south to Arizona's epic cities and natural wonders, including the Grand Canyon, these are the top US destinations I'll be traveling to in 2024.

After a month of traveling solo in the US earlier this year, one thing became clear to me—I was destined to return very soon. While this one was a whirlwind of a trip, split between a family wedding and exploring as much as I could, the next one will be a more deliberate journey of discovery.

I made the best decision on my trip, when I decided to explore the West Coast without a plan , even before I got there. This spontaneous approach led me to discover hidden gems and experience the true essence of each place. Starting in San Francisco, northern California, I traveled to San Diego for over 15 days, spending time in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

In the fall of 2024, however, I'm excited about embarking on a more structured adventure, starting with a road trip to explore America's historic East Coast and scenic New England and followed by some of the best destinations that would be ideally part of any of the many scenic desert road trip routes through Arizona and Utah. In the research for my upcoming trip, I've decided that these are some of the best US destinations for solo travelers in 2024 that I'll be going to see for myself very soon.

The 3,000-mile Rocky Mountain ranges are studded with cute towns across multiple states and are fantastic destinations for visiting in 2014.

7 San Francisco, California

Itinerary - 3 days in san francisco, 1 day in yosemite national park.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of spending a delightful solo week exploring San Francisco. I savored the incredible downtown and Chinatown areas and the stunning coast, strolled along the famous crooked street (Lombard Street) , and soaked in the charm of Fisherman's Wharf .

The historical charm of the city's famous cable cars and some of the creepy facts to learn about when visiting Alcatraz are genuinely incomparable experiences. The Hop-On-Hop-Off bus tour ($63 per person) is the perfect way to get introduced to this vibrant and historic city of America.

A day trip from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park was a definite highlight, and I highly recommend this to everyone visiting this vibrant city. My suggestion would be to rent a private vehicle for a more personalized experience. The tour buses, because of their size, are unable to make many of the roadside scenic stops that are critical for passionate photographers like myself.

Over the past few years, the city has gained somewhat of a reputation for a high number of homeless people and crime rate, but my experience and suggestion would be to stay clear of certain areas of town, and you should be fine (this suggestion probably holds good while visiting most places in the world.)

6 Bar Harbor, Maine

Itinerary - 1 day in bar harbor and 2 days in acadia national park.

A must-do on my list for a long time, the coastal northeast road trip between New York and Bar Harbor promises to be affordable , yet immensely rewarding and enjoyable. The 500-odd-mile journey will take me through historic towns like Providence and Boston, before Bar Harbor.

Serving as a gateway to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor in Maine has been on my bucket list for many years. I've wanted to experience the gorgeous Frenchman's Bay , the town pier, and the slower pace of life in Maine. Scenic hiking trails, delicious seafood, and the stories of sailors told in local bars are all things I will tightly secure in my bag of experiences. I'll spend two days exploring Bar Harbor and two more days soaking in the wonders of the magnificent Acadia National Park .

The crashing sounds of Thunder Hole , the gorgeous scenery at Jordan's Ponds, and the historic Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse are just a few of the iconic spots in Acadia that are waiting for my camera's shutter to capture them for eternity.

5 Alexandria Bay, New York

Itinerary - 2 days.

Alexandria Bay is known to be a summer and winter wonderland with several beautiful hotels. It is a gateway to the year-long breathtaking scenery of the Thousand Islands region along and on the St. Lawrence River. I've been reading about and watching videos of this area for a while now, and the number of photo opportunities offered here is an exciting prospect for any traveler, more so for shutterbugs like me.

Across the bay on a heart-shaped island stands Boldt Castle , an authentic turn-of-the-century castle and museum, which is the central focal point of the area for me to explore. The historic 50-foot Rock Island Lighthouse is another major attraction for me to explore.

Officially designated as a village, I find it surprising that Alexandria Bay is an underrated destination in Upstate New York because it is genuinely a perfect waterfront town for an ideal vacation.

4 Niagara Falls, New York

Itinerary - 1 day at niagara falls, 1 day in buffalo.

Who visits the US without keeping Niagara Falls on their itinerary? That person isn't going to be me! The grandeur and sheer power of the Falls have captivated visitors from around the globe for decades, probably since international tourism started.

My first introduction to this grand wonder of nature was in the epic Superman movie, where he swoops in to save the day and magically changes into Clark Kent. The scenic beauty and festive atmosphere around the falls seemed simply outstanding. I'll spend the day at Niagara Falls walking, clicking, and hopefully get a chance to get on board the iconic Maid of the Mist boat.

Less than 30 minutes from Niagara Falls, Buffalo is supposed to be a genuine cultural hotspot. It is home to vibrant art galleries, a lively waterfront, a burgeoning craft beer scene, and world-class architecture. Interestingly, Buffalo has been named the number-one city in America recently, and I can't wait to find out why.

Apart from the fantastic scenery in and around it, the city is also known to host spectacular festivals year-long , and I'll sign up for the ones I can be present for.

3 Tucson, Arizona

Itinerary - 2 days in tucson, 1 day in saguaro national park, 1 day in tombstone.

Tucson will be my first stop in Arizona on this trip. It is known for its natural beauty, rich Native and Mexican American heritage, and bustling downtown area. One of the highlights of my trip will be a visit to Saguaro National Park , home to the majestic giant cacti. What's even more convenient is that this natural wonder is just a 15-minute drive from downtown Tucson and lies in two parts, east and west of the city. So I can easily explore this beauty without worrying about long drives.

Tucson was the first American city to be designated a "City of Gastronomy" by UNESCO in 2015 and features a fantastic array of restaurants and cuisines. The Mount Lemmon Scenic Byway is a fabulous and scenic highway that leads to the upper reaches of the Santa Catalina Range. I will have a rental during my stay in Arizona, and this half-day drive will be on my agenda.

Less than 75 miles from Tucson, Tombstone, known for its Wild West history, is a childhood dream of mine. Re-enactments of cowboy gun fights, a bullet-ridden theater, museums, and replicas make this small town in southern Arizona a must-visit for anyone, especially first-timers to the region. This promises to be an authentic Wild West initiation for an international visitor like myself.

2 Sedona, Arizona

Arizona is home to some of the most spectacular locations in this world, not just the US. The awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, the red rock formations of Sedona, and the towering Cacti of Saguaro National Park are world-class attractions in Arizona, each magnificent in their own way.

The unique red rock sandstone formations around Sedona are enough to lure me to this magical location in Arizona's desert. Still, its rugged trails, spiritual vortexes, and the many fantastic spots to go off-grid and unwind in Sedona will ensure my visit is as relaxing as much as it is exciting.

At about 7,000 feet, Flagstaff stands out from the typical Arizona town. Its cool weather, lush forests, and high altitude make it a unique mountain town that will offer me a refreshing change from the desert landscape, just an hour away. Flagstaff is a year-round destination with lots of unique and fun things to do .

Page, Arizona, is the most exciting stop on my trip, and so I've saved the best for last. It is strategically located near some of the country's unique and iconic landscapes.

Its proximity to the magnificent red rock formations of Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, the tranquil waters of Lake Powell, and the majestic Colorado River make it a convenient and accessible choice for any traveler. I recently learned that only authorized tour companies can take visitors to the Antelope Canyon , and although I'd have preferred to go by myself, I still wouldn't miss it, even if with a tour company.

My time in Page will be a personal journey driven by my deep fascination with the area's breathtaking beauty and unique landscape. Page is also conveniently located two hours from Grand Canyon National Park and two hours from Monument Valley in Utah, two enchanting destinations that can add extra excitement to an already epic trip.

Besides the wealth of natural gems surrounding Page in all directions, the city also promises to captivate my attention with a variety of cultural experiences. From charming festivals like November's Balloon Regatta Street Fair to the culturally diverse outdoor market held on the second Saturday of every month, there's always something new and intriguing to discover.
