United Center visitor guide: everything you need to know

Chicago has no shortage of iconic sports stadiums. Soldier Field is one of the most storied and historic stadiums in professional football, and Wrigley Field might be the most famous ballpark in the world. But none of these can claim to have been the place where Michael Jordan changed the sports world forever. Home of the Chicago Bulls , The United Center is the primary indoor sports facility in the city. Its iconic Michael Jordan statue and dozens of championship banners make it a premier sports arena. 

While it was built in the 1990s, the United Center’s amenities and facilities have been kept up and maintained nicely, as it’s still one of the best arenas in the country to see a show or game. In recent years, the United Center has become one of hockey’s temples. Deemed the “Madhouse on Madison,” Chicago Blackhawks fans were treated to a three-time Stanley Cup-winning dynasty that solidified the franchise as one of hockey’s most important organizations. 

Sports are hardly the only thing to see at the United Center. Concerts are held throughout the year, with everyone from Radiohead to Harry Styles performing. Comedy shows, the circus, and other events like Michelle Obama and Oprah’s famous panel have been held here. 

There are plenty of reasons to check out what’s on at the United Center when you’re visiting Chicago. If you happen to have your luggage on you before the show, you’ll want to find a secure place to store your belongings before heading in. Chicago’s most reliable luggage storage in Chicago is Bounce, which has dozens of convenient locations throughout the city, including the trendy neighborhoods surrounding the United Center.

United Center bag policy 

The United Center bag policy is quite clear and allows small purses and clutches smaller than 10"x6"x2". Backpacks are strictly prohibited, but there are exceptions for diaper bags and baby carriers. All luggage and briefcases are prohibited as well. 

There is a bag check available at Parking Lot J, but limited capacity and crowd issues make it less than ideal. Bounce’s Near West Loop Storage Spot is within walking distance of the United Center and is situated in Chicago’s trendiest nightlife and dining hotspot. 

United Center food policy

All outside food and beverage are strictly prohibited according to the United Center bag policy. Exceptions can be made for medical reasons or for small children, but these will need to be approved by Guest Services officials. 

The United Center was an early adopter of bringing in local restaurants and companies to expand the concession offerings. Goose Island Brewery , Big Star Tacos , and Lillie’s Q Barbecue are all notable companies offering premium food and beverage at the stadium. There are also vegetarian, kosher, and vegan offerings throughout the stadium.

There is a strict United Center policy prohibiting tailgating throughout the parking lots, but there are amazing dining destinations in nearby neighborhoods like the West Loop, Wicker Park, and Taylor Street ( Little Italy ) that are worth exploring for a pre-game meal. 

United Center transportation

There’s no need to worry about how to get to the United Center. It’s located on the near west side of Chicago. It’s not far from The Loop and is near buzzy areas like the West Loop and the UIC Campus. It’s relatively easy to reach via public transit, driving, and rideshare. The official address is 1901 W Madison St, Chicago, IL 60612.

Public transportation

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has a well-connected public transportation system consisting of buses and “L” trains. The arena is easily accessible by taking the #20 Madison bus as well as the #59 Damen bus. The nearest train station is Ashland Station, which serves the Green and Pink lines. This is about a 15-minute walk to the United Center. 

The CTA recently announced an expansion of the Green Line train that will run just outside the United Center, which will make it very convenient to get to the stadium from the rest of the city. 

If you are driving, the United Center is very conveniently located. Major highways, like I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway) and I-90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway), are all within a few minutes. Massive parking lots surround the venue, but they can get crowded during events, and traffic is an issue for getting in and out of the area. If you’re going to park, it’s advisable to bring cash. 

Taxi and rideshare

Services like Uber and Lyft are very convenient for getting to and from the United Center. They can drop you off just outside the arena, and there are designated ride-share pickup points, as well as taxi stands. These are convenient, but you may have to wait a while because of the crowds. 

Depending on your location, walking to the United Center may be an option, especially if you are staying in nearby neighborhoods. Just ensure you plan your route and consider the distance and weather conditions.

United Center camera policy 

Luckily, the United Center camera policy allows cameras and video recorders, as long as their lenses do not exceed 6” when extended. Cameras with detachable lenses, GoPros, drones, tripods, and selfie sticks are not permitted at all.

Permitted items .

Any air horn or noise-making item is strictly (and understandably) prohibited. Banners, signs, or flags aren’t officially allowed in the stadium, but there is evidence that exceptions have been made (still, it’s inadvisable to bring one). Electronics like iPads, laptops, laser pens, or laser products of any type are not permitted. While child-carrying packs are allowed, large strollers need to be checked in at the Guest Relations booths located at Gates 2 or 6. 

Entering the stadium

For games and concerts, the United Center policy specifies that gates will open 90 minutes prior to tip-off, face-off, or the start of the performance. You’ll want to check your ticket or the promotion’s website to confirm when the gates will open - just in case. 

The United Center has gone completely cashless, with the exception of walking vendors. Otherwise, concessions and merchandise will need to be purchased with a credit or debit card. Mobile pay options are also available. 

There are no longer any restrictions regarding vaccination status for entry to the United Center, and masks are no longer required.

The United Center has been the stage for some of the most legendary athletes of all time, so it’s a fitting bucket-list arena to visit. Before the game, make sure to explore the city’s superb culinary and nightlife scenes. There are plenty of rooftop bars and patios to hit up when the weather is nice, and there are so many Chicago foods to try that you’ll want to sample as much from the restaurant scene as you can.

Billie Eilish is hitting the road, and Chicago will be one of the destinations.

The pop performer announced Monday that she will embark on a worldwide arena tour this fall, kicking off in Quebec City in Canada on Sept. 29. The Chicago stop of “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour” will include two shows, Nov. 13 and 14 at the United Center.

After hitting major North American cities she’ll head to Australia and then Europe.

An American Express presale begins Tuesday, and any remaining tickets will become available Friday at billieeilish.com . A percentage of proceeds will benefit the environmental nonprofit REVERB.

Earlier this month, Eilish announced her highly anticipated third studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” will be released May 17.

The news arrived via Instagram, where Eilish shared the album artwork showing the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she wrote that she will not drop singles in advance of the release.

“I wanna give it to you all at once,” she captioned the image. “I truly could not be more proud of this album.”

Eilish worked with her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas on “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” The siblings recently took home their second Oscar for their big “Barbie” ballad “What Was I Made For?” In doing so, Eilish, 22, became the youngest person by far to have won two career Oscars.

SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

Billie Eilish will continue her long-standing partnership with environmental nonprofit REVERB on this tour, building on the success of previous efforts, which resulted in over $1 million donated to environmental, greenhouse gas reduction, and climate justice projects, more than 150,000 fan actions, and much more. Sustainability efforts on this tour will include reducing greenhouse gas pollution, decreasing single-use plastic waste, supporting climate action, and updating concession offerings to promote and encourage plant-based food options with Support+Feed .

In keeping with her commitment to making a difference in the environmental impacts of her music and touring, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales in North America will go to  REVERB  and its ongoing effort to help support organizations across the country addressing the impacts of food insecurity and the climate crisis.

ECO-VILLAGE

The Billie Eilish REVERB Eco-Villages will be set up at 2 locations in the main concourse of every show where fans can take part in the tour’s sustainability efforts, connect with nonprofits, and take meaningful action for people and the planet.

SUPPORT+FEED

For collective action at the intersection of climate and food, Support+Feed will be launching a 360 campaign throughout the tour. Following the success in 2022, Support+Feed will offer an expanded version of the Support+Feed Pledge inspiring fans to eat one plant-based meal a day for 30 days with digital elements and community activations. Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in Plant-based Food Drives in a selection of cities alongside the tour to raise awareness and gather food to distribute to local communities.

Fans are encouraged to join the effort to make the HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR more sustainable. Where possible, take public transportation and carpool to and from the shows to help reduce greenhouse gas pollution and encourage more public transportation options. Fans will receive information via email about public transportation options before the show.

Venue partners are also helping to lessen the environmental footprint of the tour. In addition to efforts to decrease waste through reducing or eliminating single-use plastics and diverting landfill waste with compost and recycling, venues will be offering plant-based food options at all shows.

FAN PARTICIPATION

Bring an empty reusable water bottle or donate for a custom RockNRefill Nalgene bottle to fill up at the free water refill stations located at each venue. The RockNRefill bottles and refill stations are located at the Eco-Villages in the main concourse at all shows. Fight fast fashion by opting for thrifted, upcycled, or borrowed clothes instead of buying new clothing to wear to shows.

Standard Guided Tour

• Visit the United Nations in the heart of New York City! A one-hour guided tour offers an exciting opportunity to discover UN Headquarters. One of our multilingual Tour Guides will take you on a brief journey through the corridors of international diplomacy. You will learn about the history and work of the United Nations and visit the famous General Assembly Hall and Security Council Chamber (meetings permitting).
• Tours are offered in all six official languages of the United Nations ( Arabic , Chinese , English , French , Russian , Spanish ), as well as in additional languages in high demand. Tours in languages other than English may be available upon request. Please contact [email protected] for availability.
• Children ages 5 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult . Unfortunately, children under 5 are not permitted on tour .
• The United Nations Headquarters is accessible for persons with disabilities or with a mobility impairment. Visitors may request the use of a wheelchair when checking in.
• Guided Tours are also offered at other United Nations Offices around the world, including   Geneva ,   Nairobi   and   Vienna .

Garden Tour

• Special tours of the UN's North Lawn are offered from May through August .
• Take a stroll around the gardens with their exceptional rose collection and iconic cherry trees: learn about the story behind the “George and the Dragon” statue, see an actual segment of the Berlin Wall, and discover a “hidden gem” honouring one of the most important women in the history of the United Nations: Eleanor Roosevelt.

Art Tour

• Visit the unique art collection of the United Nations Headquarters! The UN gifts collection is a combination of artworks, historic objects, and architectural components donated by member states, foundations, and individual donors since 1950. Many of the most prominent figures in the art world, such as Marc Chagall, Candido Portinari, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, are represented in the UN collection. In this tour, you will see a selection of the artworks located in the building, and will access the Security Council, the General Assembly Hall, as well as the Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council Chambers, meetings permitting.

Architecture Tour

• The UN architecture tour is dedicated to a marvel of modernist design and international style - the UN headquarters building in New York. Our tour will explore the fascinating history behind the “Workshop for Peace”, a collaborative effort of 11 renowned architects from around the world to build a home for the United Nations, and explore how this ‘workshop’ reinforces and accommodates peacebuilding and multilateralism until this day.

Children's Tour

• Children aged 5 to 10 are invited to learn more about the UN and how to be global citizens on a special UN Children’s Tour . A special child-friendly “Kids  Corridor” features wall-sized world maps, mounted flags of the Security Council’s members,  an actual refugee tent and more!  Interactive games with the Tour Guides , quizzes and role-playing help young visitors understand the work of the UN and how it relates to their daily lives. Please note: the Children's Tour does not access the Conference Building. Participants will visit the Kids Corridor and the General Assembly Hall (meetings permitting).

Black History Tour

• Come celebrate Black History at the United Nations by taking our special Black History Tour!
• The Black History-themed Tour of the United Nations will grant you a unique look at the Ark of Return, a permanent memorial in honor of the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, located on the United Nations Visitors Plaza. The special tour will also include access to the Security Council Chamber, the Trusteeship Council Chamber and the General Assembly Hall (meetings permitting). You will learn about the contribution of people of African descent to the work of the United Nations in fields such as peace and security and human rights, with a special emphasis on decolonization.

Focus on Women Tour

• The Focus on Women Tour introduces significant contributions of women to the United Nations (UN) work on Peace & Security, Human Rights and Development. Women make up more than half of the world’s population, and although their voices have often been silenced, their resilience and insight have made them agents of change! This Tour will cover women who have influenced the history of the UN as an organisation, as well as topics such as Security Council resolution 1325 on the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts; the unique and growing contribution of women in Peace Operations; Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and women’s empowerment; and other General Assembly milestones helping advance the status of women around the world. In addition, the tour will showcase the gift of Panama in the General Assembly Lobby, a traditional Mola style tapestry that was made by indigenous Kuna women.
• The Focus on Women Tour will also include access to the Security Council Chamber, the Economic and Social Council Chamber, and the General Assembly Hall, meetings permitting.

Following the release of their biopic movie "Unsung Hero," Christian pop hitmakers For King & Country have announced their new U.S. tour of the same name.

The “For King & Country Live: The Unsung Hero 2024 Tour” is coming Oklahoma City for a Nov. 9 concert at Paycom Center.

The four-time Grammy Award-winning duo will embark on the 31-city tour Sept. 19 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

For King & Country to perform new music on autumn tour

The duo of brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone recently dropped “Unsung Hero (The Inspired By Soundtrack)” simultaneously with the theatrical release of the film “Unsung Hero” on April 26.

The soundtrack includes “Place In This World," featuring Michael W. Smith; “Checking In” with Lee Brice; “To Hell With The Devil (RISE)” featuring Lecrae and Stryper; “Lead Me On” featuring Amy Grant; and much more.

It also features the title track of the film, “Unsung Hero,” from their current Grammy-nominated and American Music Awards, Billboard and Dove award-winning album “What Are We Waiting For?”

For King & Country will be performing new music from “The Inspired By Soundtrack” from the film "Unsung Hero," along with many fan favorite songs from their previous albums. The duo is promising to give audiences an innovative new production unlike any previous For King & Country tour to date.

The 5TH WORLD TOUR ‘READY TO BE’’ promises to bring their signature high energy performance and a robust setlist of their chart-topping hits. TWICE’s 12th mini album, “READY TO BE,” was released on March 10.

Last year, TWICE completed their sold-out 4TH WORLD TOUR Ⅲ arena tour. These performances were a major milestone for the group, as made TWICE the first female K-Pop group to sell out two North American arena tours, as well as the first female K-Pop group to play a North American stadium. In August, they released their 11th EP, BETWEEN 1&2, which entered the Billboard 200 Album Chart at #3 and holds the biggest pure sales week for an album by a female K-Pop act in the US, further extending TWICE’s record for the most top 10 debuts on the chart among all K-Pop female acts. BETWEEN 1&2’s lead single “Talk that Talk” reached the top 20 on Billboard’s Global 200 chart, and top 10 on Billboard’s Global Excl. US chart, tying with “The Feels” as their highest charting single on the latter chart. They ended the year as the most-stream female K-Pop group on Spotify.

Most recently, TWICE released their second full English-language single, “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” off their EP READY TO BE. The track debuted at #84 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned TWICE career high-placements on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart (#3) and both Spotify’s US Chart (#39) and Global Chart (#60).

Take I-90 East to the Madison Street exit and make a right onto Madison Street. The building will be on your left.

Take I-55 North to the Damen exit and make a left, going northbound for approximately 7 minutes. The building will be on your right.

Take Madison Street west from the Loop.

Take I-290 East to exit 28A (Damen Avenue). Take Damen Avenue north to Madison Street. Make a right onto Madison Street and the building will be on your right.

Public Transportation

Take the Orange, Green, Purple, or Brown lines to Madison. Take #20 Madison buses west.

To the United Center : The #19 United Center Express Bus runs on game days. Service begins 90 minutes prior to game time, runs every 10 minutes until 30 minutes until start of game. Board at stops starting southbound on Michigan and Randolph. Connections are made with Metra trains at Millennium Station, Ogilvie Center and Union Station. The #20 Madison Bus travels west on Madison Street, starting downtown at Wabash Street and runs every few minutes, making all stops to the United Center.

From the United Center : The #19 United Center Express and the #20 Madison buses run every few minutes, departing from the eastbound side of Madison Street. Buses make all stops.

PLEASE NOTE: Parking lots and Uber lot open to public two and a half hours prior to event time.

Suites Parking

Two reserved parking passes will be valid in lots C and K. The other two reserved parking passes will be for parking in lots A, B, D, or L. Holders of these passes will be directed to A, B, D, or L lots by traffic police and parking attendants based on traffic conditions. Parking passes are good for one space each. All parking passes are mobile entry only.

For all special events, each Executive Suite Holder will receive two complimentary parking passes per event ordered. These two passes will be for reserved parking located in lots C and K. In addition, Executive Suite Holders will also receive the option to purchase four additional parking passes in lots C and K for special events.

Suite Holder parking passes are also valid for buses or limousines under specific guidelines.

Lexus Club Parking

Lexus Club Seat members have reserved parking in fenced, well-lit and clearly marked parking lots adjacent to the United Center for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. All Lexus Club members who purchase tickets to other events may also purchase one preferred parking pass (in lot C or K) for such events. Details on how to obtain parking for other events are included with the fax transmission announcing each event.

Lexus Club Seat members with two to four tickets receive a complimentary, reserved parking space in a closed-in, paved lot for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. Lexus Club Seat members with five seats or more will be provided with two parking passes.

Rideshare/UberZone

UBER ZONE FAQs:

What is the Uber Zone (Lot E) at the United Center? To increase and streamline the fan experience for guests who take Uber to and from the United Center, the new Uber Zone is located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street (Lot E) and will combine the three former Uber locations around the arena. Traffic leading to the three prior Uber pickup locations 1) Zone A, previously located on Wood Street & Washington Blvd. near Lot A, 2) Zone D, previously located on Monroe Street & S. Paulina Street near Lot D and 3) Zone F, previously located on Monroe Street & Seeley Ave. near Lot F will now be directed towards the one new Uber Zone in Lot E.

What is the location of the Uber Zone? The new Uber Zone at the United Center is located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Fans will enter and exit through the sidewalk entrance located on Madison Street and cars will enter the lot by turning into the Uber Zone from Madison Street. Cars will exit on Warren Blvd.

What are the hours of operation? On event days, the Uber Zone is open two hours prior to games, concerts and events and will remain open up to one hour after each event. On non-event days, the Uber Zone will be closed and Uber rides will be dropped off near the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street outside of the Uber Zone.

What is the pickup process for fans?

• Using the Uber app, fans inside the United Center will call an Uber ride.
• Guests will then head to the new Uber Zone located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street in front of the United Center.
• When arriving, fans will show the Uber attendant the lane number their driver is in.
• Fans will be shown the location where their Uber vehicle is located to start their next journey.

What is the dropoff process for fans? When Uber drivers arrive with guests at the United Center, they will be instructed to pull into the Uber Zone from the Madison Street side to drop off fans. Once exiting the vehicle, guests will walk out of the main entrance located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Guests can cross the street to the United Center and are encouraged to enter through the East Atrium.
