Galveston Cruise Terminal 10 Sailing Guide (Location, Parking, Photos, & More)

Cruise Terminal 10 at the Port of Galveston marks the biggest leap in cruising from the island since it became a regular departure point roughly two decades ago.

Cruise Terminal 10 on Galveston Island

Through a $125 million partnership between the port and Royal Caribbean, the state of the art terminal opened in late 2022 to much fanfare. And it’s easy to understand why. On its own the terminal is open, airy, and beautifully designed. It marks a great way to start your cruise. But compare Cruise Terminal 10 to the other two terminals in Galveston, and the difference is even more impressive.

Add to that the fact that with the new dedicated Royal Caribbean terminal the cruise line placed its largest class of ships on the island. The Oasis-class vessels aren’t just larger (holding upwards of 6,000 passengers at double occupancy). They offer an experience that’s unrivaled in the amount of things you can see, do, and experience onboard. Whether you want to zipline across a cruise ship or just take a quiet stroll in a lush, green park, it’s possible on these ships.

All this is to say that Cruise Terminal 10 is without a doubt a major addition to Galveston cruising. But with the new terminal also come a lot of new changes, including everything from the terminal location to where to park. For everything to know, we have you covered.

Cruise Terminal 10 Location

The first thing that you should know — especially if you’ve sailed from Galveston before — is that the terminal is not located right next to the older cruise terminals. So if you’ve sailed on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the old terminal, you’ll need to go to a different spot.

Cruise Terminal 10 sits about a mile east of the other terminals. The entrance is at the intersection of Harborside Drive and Royal Caribbean Way (which is 14th Street south of Harborside).

If driving to the port, the address to use is 1152 Royal Caribbean Way . For other transportation options to Cruise Terminal 10, you can see our Galveston transportation page here .

Cruise Terminal 10 Photo Tour

If you’ve sailed from Galveston before but not Cruise Terminal 10, then prepared to be wowed.

The first thing that you’ll notice is the large blue façade with the massive Royal Caribbean logo sitting proudly at the center. On either side of the main terminal building are luggage drop-off areas and plenty of space to pull up and drop off passengers or baggage.

Interior shot of Terminal 10

Step inside the main terminal doors and you’re greeted by a large open atrium. At the center is another Royal Caribbean logo, flanked on either side by two massive video boards showing videos to get you excited about the cruise.

But the real centerpiece of this entrance are the two massive propellers suspended from the ceiling. (We don’t blame you if you’re a little hesitant to walk directly beneath them!)

On either side of the entrance is a stairway and escalators to the check-in area. Head up and you’ll reach the second floor of the terminal that leads to boarding the ship.

Once on the check-in level, you’ll be guided to an agent that will confirm your details, check any required documents and get your ready to board. From there, it’s a quick pass through security, and then you’re on your way to the ship.

This embarkation hall is open and airy, with tons of seating just in case the ship isn’t ready for passengers just yet. Continue down the walkway and you’ll get your first glimpse of the ship. But before you head down the gangway to board, be sure to check out the “Galveston Beach Trio.”

This art installation of a band composed of a pelican, sea turtle, and crab is a great spot to grab a quick photo before you start your cruise.

Parking at Cruise Terminal 10

Driving in for your cruise? Then you’ll need a place to park your car. Galveston is known for having a number of parking options — including lots of independent lots that can help save you money .

In this case you can park at an independent lot, which can then shuttle you to the cruise port. However, the most convenient option will be parking at the on-site lots at the terminal that are operated by the Port of Galveston.

Along with the cruise terminal, four different parking lots were built that put you a short distance from the ship. The lots then offer a short shuttle over to the terminal or you can just walk. Each lot is close enough that walking is extremely easy. As well, there are newly constructed covered walkways between the lots and the terminal.

royal caribbean international cruise terminal 10 galveston tx

The parking options at the terminal include:

  • Pier 14 Lot (Orange): $20 per day
  • South Lot (Green): $20 per day
  • North Lot (Pink): $22 per day
  • North Premium Lot (Yellow; Covered): $27 per day

All prices will have taxes and fees in addition. For example, parking at the Pier 14 Lot runs $153.55 for a one-week cruise. Major cards are accepted, but cash is not. If there is a certain lot that you want to park, it’s a good idea to reserve online ahead of time through the Port of Galveston to ensure that you get a space.

Want to save some money? You can find less expensive Galveston cruise parking elsewhere, but just keep in mind it may take longer to shuttle between the ship and your parking given the location of the terminal.

Picking Up/Dropping Off at the Terminal (Including Luggage)

Dropping off someone at the terminal? Or maybe you just want to unload those heavy suitcases before you park. Either way, it’s easy at the new terminal.

In this case, you’ll enter the terminal area at the intersection of Harborside and 14th Street/Royal Caribbean Way. Then, you can follow Royal Caribbean Way to Royal Caribbean Circle (and just follow the signage to the terminal). This will lead you right to the front of the terminal where you will see the large area for luggage drop-off. You can also drop passengers here.

There is also a second spot to drop passengers and luggage if you simply follow Royal Caribbean Way around the right side of the terminal. There you’ll find a loop that allows you to drop off and then head back toward the exit of the terminal area.

Transportation From the Terminal

royal caribbean international cruise terminal 10 galveston tx

Need a ride from the terminal back home or to the airport? In that case, just like with dropping off, there are two different areas for pick-up. You’ll just need to communicate with your ride where to meet.

First there is the area right in front of the terminal entrance. This spot has numbered stations that should help you identify where you will be picked up.

The other area is on the east side of the terminal where larger shuttle buses park to shuttle passengers, but there are also lanes for picking up similar to what you see at an airport.

Need a taxi? During our cruise we saw a taxi stand with waiting cabs on Royal Caribbean Way, in between the North Lot and South Lot.

Interested in a rideshare? You should know that Lyft is allowed to pick up at the terminal, but Uber is not. If you want, you can walk outside of the terminal area to catch an Uber.

Press Releases

New royal caribbean terminal opens, welcoming largest cruise ship and the best family vacations in texas.

GALVESTON, TEXAS, Nov. 9, 2022 – Everything’s bigger in Texas, and the biggest, boldest adventure has arrived. Today, Royal Caribbean International’s new $125 million cruise terminal in Galveston, Texas, opened its doors and welcomed the Lone Star State’s largest cruise ship, Allure of the Seas . The cruise line held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Port of Galveston to mark the state-of-the-art facility’s opening and the Texas debut of its revolutionary Oasis Class.

Royal Caribbean executives, government and port officials and partners celebrated the milestone achievement, including U.S. representative Randy Weber, Federal Commissioner Louis Sola, Mayor Craig Brown, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley and Port Director Rodger Rees. The city of Galveston also marked the day with a proclamation, recognizing the cruise line’s commitment to the city and the successful partnership started more than 20 years ago when Royal Caribbean first set sail from Galveston. With the introduction of the Oasis Class, the world’s largest cruise ships, it’s estimated the new terminal will welcome as many as 630,000 vacationers each year.

“We are thrilled to take family vacations to a whole new level in Texas. Our new, 161,334-square-foot terminal opens up a world of vacation possibilities for families in the Southwest,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “Now our unmatched Oasis Class ships, known as the best family vacations in the industry, can set sail from Galveston. Allure of the Seas is just the beginning, and we thank the Port of Galveston, Ceres and all the teams involved for making this bold vision a reality.”

Royal Caribbean’s Galveston facility is as bold in its sustainable design as the bold adventures that vacationers have in store. The terminal will break even more new ground as the first LEED Zero Energy facility in the world , generating 100% of the energy it needs through onsite solar panels. From the start, the design strategies used to develop the terminal were aligned with parent company Royal Caribbean Group’s wholistic environmental goals, its focus to advance the development of sustainable infrastructure as well as its decarbonization strategy – Destination Net Zero.

“This new cruise terminal is a gamechanger for the port and the region,” said Rodger Rees, Port Director, Port of Galveston. “This $125 million investment, in collaboration with Royal Caribbean, the port and Ceres, is expected to bring 800 new jobs, $1.4 billion in local business services revenue, $5.6 million in state and local taxes, and incredible business development opportunities. And, of course, Allure of the Seas means more cruising adventures for our Texas cruise guests.”

Welcoming vacationers in the terminal as they make their way to Allure is a new, dynamic art sculpture named the Galveston Beach Trio by Texas-based artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin of Brad Oldham Sculpture. The cruise line selected the husband-and-wife team for their one-of-a-kind concept that’s inspired by Galveston’s rich musical heritage, which includes the likes of Galveston-native and Grammy Award-winning, bass-baritone singer and songwriter Barry White. As the embodiment of the city’s island time spirit, the stainless steel and lost-wax bronze sculpture is the perfect backdrop for the start of vacationers’ getaways.

Allure will set sail from the new homeport on its first cruise on Sunday, Nov. 13   . The Oasis Class ship has in store a lineup of thrills, ways to chill, restaurants, nightlife, entertainment and more across seven signature neighborhoods, including the open-air Central Park with thousands of real plants and the Boardwalk neighborhood filled with ways to play and the one-of-a-kind AquaTheater entertainment venue that comes alive with high divers, acrobats, aerialists and more. From a nine-story-high zip line and two FlowRider surf simulators to rock climbing, ice skating, and original productions that span four stages – air, ice, water and theater – there’s adventure from end to end.

When it comes to refueling in between the action, the 30-plus restaurants, bars and lounges on board serve up a range of flavors like family-style Italian classics at Giovanni’s Table, American steakhouse favorites at Chops Grille and fresh sushi and sizzling hibachi at Izumi. New concepts and dishes are coming to Allure as well, including Wipeout Cafe featuring El Loco Fresh . Fitting for the ship’s new home in Texas, the venue will serve up El Loco Fresh’s popular, grab-and-go Mexican delights like made-to-order quesadillas, tacos, nachos and more. Plus, joining the staples guests know and love at Giovanni’s Table will be menu items such as crispy calamari, eggplant parmigiana and caprese salad. Every member of the family can make memories together and on their own adventures any day of the week on Allure .

Vacationers can enjoy all that Allure has to offer on the new 7-night Western Caribbean cruises from Galveston and visit sun-soaked destinations, such as Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico ; and Roatan, Honduras , for the winter 2022-2023 season.

If you’re going to be one of the many cruise passengers who will sail out of Galveston this year, this guide is for you. The Port of Galveston is a bustling hub of activity for cruise passengers, offering easy access to a variety of popular destinations across the Caribbean and beyond.

If you’re planning a cruise from Galveston, it’s important to know all about the port’s terminals and parking options , as well as the nearest airports and transportation options.

Additionally, there are plenty of exciting activities, restaurants, and hotels near the port that you won’t want to miss.

In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at all of these important factors to help ensure that you have a smooth and enjoyable experience before and after your cruise.

A Little History About the Port

Established in 1825, the Port of Galveston has been a thriving maritime commercial center for nearly 200 years. What started as a humble Mexican trading post has since become a Texan-sized center of commerce.

Boasting 840-acres of infrastructure and just a 45-minute sail from the open seas, the Port of Galveston has grown to the fourth largest American cruise port, with over one million passengers passing through annually.

The Port of Galveston sits just off the coast of Texas at the entrance to Galveston Bay and the Houston Ship Channel on Galveston Island. The Port of Galveston has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when it served as a major trading hub for cotton and other goods.

In the 1960s, the port began to see the potential for growth in the cruise industry and started to invest in infrastructure to accommodate cruise ships.

Galveston Cruise Terminals

Today, the Port of Galveston is one of the busiest cruise ports in the United States, with over 1.5 million passengers sailing from here each year. The port has continued to invest in infrastructure to keep up with the growing demand for cruises, including the addition of new terminals and parking facilities.

As a result, Galveston has become a popular departure point for many major cruise lines, offering convenient access to destinations across the Caribbean and beyond.

While it has grown exponentially in recent years, compared to other major cruise ports, the Port of Galveston is much smaller and easier to navigate.

It services five cruise lines out of three terminals , the newest of which was completed in 2022. More specific information about each terminal can be found below:

Terminal 25

2502 Harborside Drive

Galveston, Texas 77550

Terminal 25 was formerly Terminal 1. It hosts both Carnival and Princess Cruise Lines and is the easternmost terminal. There are a number of parking options directly across the street, making it convenient to get to on the day of your cruise’s arrival and departure.

Terminal 28

2702 Harborside Drive

Neighboring Terminal 25, Terminal 28 was formerly Terminal 2. The previous home of Royal Caribbean, it now hosts both Disney and Norwegian Cruise Lines. As you face the port, Terminal 28 will be on your left. It is a slightly farther walk from parking options than Terminal 25 is, but is still convenient to get to (especially if you are taking a taxi or shuttle).

Terminal 10

1152 Royal Caribbean Way

Terminal 10 is the newest port, so the roads are newly renamed. If your preferred navigation system does not recognize 1152 Royal Caribbean Way , you can try the old address: 1028 Harborside Drive .

Terminal 10 exclusively hosts Royal Caribbean Cruises. This is the largest of the terminals. Sitting about a mile east of Terminals 25 and 28, Terminal 10 has its own parking areas.

Royal Caribbean's terminal at Port of Galveston

The Port of Galveston’s three cruise terminals are some of the most advanced and well-equipped cruise facilities in the world.

These terminals offer a range of amenities and services designed to ensure a seamless embarking and disembarking experience for passengers, including spacious waiting areas, modern check-in facilities, and easy access to nearby parking options.

Port of Galveston Parking

parking terminal at Port of Galveston

Most of the people boarding cruises at the Port of Galveston drive themselves there, as Galveston is only a short drive from many of Texas’ major cities. If you can drive yourself, this is a great option because parking at the port is easy and affordable.

The port itself offers official parking, there are independent parking lots nearby, and some local hotels offer cruise parking. Regardless of which option you choose, we recommend that you book a spot early so that you can save money with advance-payment discounts.

Official Port of Galveston Parking

The port offers parking at all three terminals; this is clearly marked with blue banners that say ‘ Port of Galveston Cruise Parking. ’

There are shuttles to take you to and from the official parking lots for Terminal 25 and Terminal 28, which are Lot A (160 33 rd Street) and Lot B (224 33 rd Street). There is also an Express Lot at 2702 Harborside Drive that is within walking distance of Terminals 25 and 28.

Terminal 10 offers several parking options including the North Lot (1142 Royal Caribbean Way), the South Lot (1201 Royal Caribbean Way), and the Pier 14 Lot (1390 Royal Caribbean Way).

The North Lot is directly next to the terminal, and spots can be booked there for a premium price. The South and Pier 14 Lots are a bit further away but offer guests a free shuttle service to and from the terminal.

Rates run from about $70 for a five-day cruise and $100 for a seven-day cruise if you book in advance. The port’s official parking lots accept all major credit cards (including American Express) but do not accept cash.

Independent Parking Lots

There are nearly a dozen independent parking lots surrounding the port facility that offer parking at cheaper rates than the official port parking and are sometimes even closer to your ship than the port’s parking lot. These lots also offer options for covered parking.

Prices start as low as $65 for a five-day cruise and $70 for a seven-day cruise. The methods of payment accepted vary by independent company.

Hotels that Offer Cruise Parking

Many hotels in the Galveston area will offer free parking for the length of your cruise in return for a one-night stay, either as part of a package or as a courtesy consideration for hotel guests. The hotels that currently offer this are:

  • The Hilton Galveston Island Resort
  • Inn at the Waterpark
  • Beachcomber Inn
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston

What’s the cheapest way to park at the Port of Galveston?

If you’re not planning on spending the night at a nearby hotel, the most affordable parking option at the port is the port’s surface lot located at 33rd Street and Harborside Drive.

This parking lot is about a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminals and charges a flat rate of $10 per day for standard vehicles and $20 per day for oversized vehicles.

Another low-cost option is the Port of Galveston’s satellite parking lot, located off-site at 3212 Harborside Drive. This lot offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from the cruise terminals and charges a daily rate of $7 per vehicle.

However, it’s important to note that availability for these cheaper options can be limited, so it’s best to book in advance or arrive early to secure a spot.

Regardless of where you choose to park, drivers should drop off passengers and luggage before heading to the parking lot to reduce difficulty when boarding your ship.

Porters will be available at each terminal to assist with baggage on embarkation day.

Houston Airports (including transportation)

The closest major city to the Port of Galveston is Houston, which is about 50 miles northwest of the port, so if you must fly to Texas to board your trip, set your sights on a Houston-based airport.

Houston has two main airports, William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), both of which host domestic and international flights. Houston Hobby is generally more conveniently positioned, only 45 miles (about 50 minutes) from the port.

Hobby serves as Southwest Airlines’ operating base, so almost all flight traffic out of HOU is operated by the Texan airline. Southwest provides nonstop flights to over 60 destinations, including a smattering of international airports.

The only other flights are hosted by American Airlines and Delta who have a daily flight to their hubs in Dallas and Atlanta, respectively.

Bush-Intercontinental has a superior flight network but is further outside the city and is situated 70 miles (about 75 minutes) from the Port of Galveston. IAH is United Airlines’ second largest hub and offers nonstop travel to over 185 destinations across 28 airlines.

There are many ways to get to the Port of Galveston from both Houston-area airports, including cruise shuttles, rideshare services/taxis, and public transit.

Cruise Shuttles

Both airports are home to cruise-specific shuttle services that provide round-trip services from Houston to the Port of Galveston. These shuttles leave on a set schedule, with many providers offering several daily departure times seven days a week.

Airport to terminal shuttles can be pre-arranged through your cruise line if you arrive the same day that your cruise departs. Be sure to check each respective shuttle provider’s schedule to ensure that the timing fits nicely with your flight arrival and ship boarding times. You don’t want to be stuck at the airport without a ride!

Costs for these shuttles range from $50-75 per person, but discounts are available through many providers for senior citizens and children.

Rideshare Services and Taxis

Both airports host rideshares and taxis that can take you to the Port of Galveston. These are available to book upon arrival to the airport, so you do not have to worry so much about timing.

Generally, rideshares will run a bit cheaper than traditional cabs—an Uber/Lyft will cost about $80-100 while taxis will cost about $100-150 from each airport. Rideshares also now offer the option to book in advance, so you can lower the cost of your ride by booking it once you land in Texas.

However, if you are traveling with a larger group (whose luggage fits in a standard car!), this option might work out to be more cost-effective than a shuttle.

Public Transit

There is limited public transit options between Houston and Galveston. Amtrak has a bus available, but tickets can only be booked in conjunction with a train ticket for around $90 per person.

Service departs from the Houston Station and the drop-off in Galveston is the Moody Railroad Museum (on 25 th and Strand). This would then require booking a taxi or rideshare service to get to the port.

Your most cost-effective public transport option is the Galveston Express, which offers an affordable public shuttle service from both airports to the Port of Galveston starting from $30 per person. It is recommended to book this in advance.

The cheapest way to get to the port depends on how many people you are traveling with. If there are enough people to make splitting a rideshare service worth it (i.e., less than the cost of individual shuttle tickets), then that is your best bet.

Otherwise, the shuttles provide an affordable and easy way to get to your ship.

Things to Do Near the Cruise Terminal

Galveston, Texas is a vibrant coastal city that offers a variety of fun and interesting activities to enjoy before setting sail on a cruise. Visitors can explore the city’s rich history by visiting museums, historic sites, and beautiful Victorian architecture.

There are also miles of beaches to enjoy, along with water sports and other outdoor activities. For those looking for something a bit more laid-back, there are plenty of great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. No matter what your interests may be, Galveston has something for everyone.

Featuring an indoor rainforest, an aquarium, and educational exhibits, Moody Gardens dots the skyline of Galveston with its towering pyramids. Moody Gardens is less than 20 from the cruise port and is certainly worth the drive for families with children. One of Galveston’s top attractions, Moody Gardens even has a small water park, freshwater lagoons, ziplines, and a golf course.

Galveston Island’s Historic Pleasure Pier is a 1,000-foot-long amusement park that sits over the sea about a six-minute drive from the Port of Galveston. For $30 per person, you can get all-access all-day to this recently renovated nexus of fun, offering food, shops, carnival games, and 15 rides (including a roller coaster!).

If you’re itching for an educational twist on your pre-cruise recreation, Galveston has plenty of historical offerings. Bishop’s Palace is an ornate 19 th century home that sits six minutes from the port by car. Moody Mansion is another historic building in Galveston, located three minutes from the port by car (or a 15-minute walk). Public entry to both is offered daily from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. for $15 per person per house (children ages 5 and under can tour for free).

Galveston is also home to the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa , a 19 th century ship that was designated a historical landmark in 1990. Elissa is featured as a part of the Galveston Historic Seaport, which is a three-minute drive from the cruise port. The ship can be toured from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. for $10 per person.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of beaches and parks to explore, including Stewart Beach (named one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families”) and the Galveston Island State Park ( great for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming).

Families can take a walking tour of the city’s historic downtown area, The Strand , which is home to beautiful Victorian architecture, museums, and unique shops. The Strand is also the center of Galveston’s seasonal celebrations, including Mardis Gras and the annual ‘Dickens on the Strand’ festival. With so many options to choose from, you’re sure to find a valuable way to spend time before embarking on your cruise.

Restaurants near the Cruise Port

Galveston’s Historic Strand District features restaurants, bars, and shops in buildings from the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries. Here you can find mingle with locals as you admire distinct architecture and enjoy great eats. The Strand District is within walking distance of Terminals 25 and 28, but if you are at Terminal 10, you will want to take a rideshare or taxi to reach this area.

  • Stuttgarden Tavern : One of the most popular restaurants along The Strand is Stuttgarden Tavern , a three-floor restaurant with a beer hall and rooftop bar with live music. The Tavern offers pool and dart games to play alongside pub food and draft beer.
  • Yaga’s Café : Also located along The Strand, Yaga’s Café is known for its artisan pizzas, such as coconut shrimp pizza, and its plethora of vegan options. Opt for outdoor seating where you can enjoy your food on one of Galveston’s biggest patios and enjoy live music from local groups.
  • La King’s Confectionary : For dessert, you can visit La King’s Confectionary, an old-fashioned candy shop that has been in business for nearly a century. La King’s is known for its thick shakes and malts, as well as its homemade ice cream and saltwater taffy.

Other restaurants and shops to purchase last-minute items (like sunscreen!) can be found in the hotel district, which runs along the Galveston Seawall. This area is home to chain and independent restaurants as well as grocery stores.

The Seawall is generally a seven-to-ten-minute drive from the Port of Galveston, so you will need to take a taxi or rideshare if you plan to visit this area.

Hotels near the Cruise Port

Galveston Island has a wide variety of places to spend the night, from historic hotels to modern chains and resorts. Most hotels in Galveston are along the Seawall, about seven minutes from the port, offering affordable stays with beautiful views of the ocean. However, there are some hotels closer to the port that can provide a unique pre-cruise experience.

  • Tremont House Hotel : The closest and highest rated hotel within walking distance of the Port of Galveston is the Tremont House Hotel. Situated in The Strand District, this hotel offers a rooftop bar, a café, and easy transportation around the island and to/from Houston area airports.
  • Harbor House Hotel : Found in Galveston Wharf overlooking Galveston Bay, the Harbor House Hotel offers guests gorgeous views only a four-minute drive from the port and two blocks from The Strand District.
  • The Grand Galvez : Located along the Seawall, the Grand Galvez is the only historic beachfront hotel on the Texas Gulf Coast, dating back to 1911. This elegant hotel boasts luxurious amenities such as a full-service spa, outdoor pool, and on-site restaurant. The Grand Galvez is about an eight-minute drive from the Port of Galveston and a five-minute drive from The Historic Strand District.
  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites : For travelers on a budget, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Galveston Beach is a great choice, offering comfortable rooms and a complimentary breakfast. This option is seven minutes from both the port and The Strand.

To save money (but miss out on beachfront views), there are also mainland hotels between Houston and Galveston that are only a short drive from the island. These might be a good option for travelers coming from Houston, as they are affordable and dotted along the route to the island.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the Port of Galveston offers a fantastic experience for cruise passengers, with a range of convenient parking options, proximity to nearby Houston-area airports, a wealth of activities to enjoy before setting sail, and comfortable pre-cruise accommodations.

From exploring the city’s rich history to soaking up the sun on the beaches, Galveston offers something for everyone.

I have not had a bad cruise with RCCL on any of their ships... I read that in Jan they had some flooding due to storms but glad to see no signs of damage or other...I read that they replaced a lot of carpet and furniture I am loyal to Royal. Always have a good time on my cruises

This was my first time cruising with Royal Caribbean. I'm on a quest to try every major cruise line and see who is the best. I was able to snag a black Friday deal to book Voyager of the Seas. I recommend that you either book yourself directly or book with a travel agent. A travel agent costs you nothing, and they literally take care of anything related to your cruise. I booked parking at galveston terminal 10 north lot, which is pretty close to the RC departure terminal. Since this was a 5 night cruise, it ran over a hundred bucks to park. The check-in was easy for the terminal, and it was not chaotic. We got on the ship at 11:45 am. Voyager of the Seas is the first of the Voyager class ships, and it was last refurbished in 2018. The pool was open on the pool deck 11, and we started off there. The reggae music was great, and the yes, the bar was open. Drinks on avg run $14. I did not purchase a drink package, but looking back, I will in the future. This runs around $72 a day. Finally, We got to our balcony cabin on deck 6 around 2 pm. Our cabin steward Christian was an all-star! The room itself was a bit small, and the bathroom was even smaller. For this reason, I will only book suites going forward. It was lovely having breakfast on the balcony a few mornings. Full service breakfast runs $7.95. Hang your order on your door the night before to secure your order. They will call you in the morning to let you know they are on the way. We dined mostly in main dining every day with a few visits to windjammer buffet. Every night was themed. French cuisine was the formal night on day 2. Carribean and Mexican cuisine followed. Do order more than one appetizer, entree, and dessert for yourself. It is included. My favorite dishes were crab cakes, new york strip, coconut shrimp, jerk porkchop, fish sandwich, creme brulee, tiramisu, and yes the vanilla ice cream! We got cafe promenade a few times, which has the pizza and a few sandwiches and desserts. I really liked the pizza and tuna salad sandwiches from here. Overall, the dining was awesome, and the service was good. Entertainment ranged from trivia, casino play, live music, silent disco, karaoke, dance lessons, bingo, a show dedicated to music in the movies, and an adult show that involved adventurous people stripping to their underwear lol. There was also a 70's dance party that was led by the cruise director Kat. We really enjoyed our cruise but felt there were not enough food venues on board, room was small and really only one nightclub onboard. I will book RC again in the future but will book a larger ship next time.

I had the opportunity to cruise with Royal Caribbean Cruiseline over New Year's Eve. Although it's a smaller ship, I cannot complain about the service, food, decor, and White Chocolate Mocha from their Starbucks. It was a pleasure meeting up with family and meeting people while cruising. My favorite entertainment event was the Silent Party and the Gender Contest. I would highly recommend the Silwnt party every night before the club opens at 11pm.

Voyager is an older ship (1999) that had a major revamp in 2019 which currently still looks great. I went on a 4 night weekend sailing with one port stop at Cozumel. We stayed in a 2 bedroom grand suite on the aft. While I enjoyed all the suite perks, the room itself was not that impressive other than the fact that it had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. With it being located on the aft, our balcony was huge and that in itself was worth the long walk from the elevator. I will say, you feel alot of movement being on the aft for sure. Our room attendant was super nice and helpful. The other attendants always greet you as you're walking down the hallway as well. Everyone is just so friendly. Voyager is a good size ship to easily get around and has the standard features of a RC ship. Perfect for a first timer as well as any experienced cruisers. Similar to other RC ships in its class, Voyager has a Royal Promenade, main theater, entertainment lounge, fitness center, spa and wellness center and activities such as a mini golf course, basketball court, rock climbing wall, Flowrider, water slides, pools, and ice skating rink. There is also a laser tag on this ship. As for dining, you have the typical main dining room, Windjammer buffet, and Cafe Promenade for all the pizzas your belly can handle. Here you can also get Ben & Jerry's ice cream for an extra cost (because the soft serve on this ship was not it). Think Chinese Buffet icey soft serve, but it's free so there's that. Specialty dining includes Chop's Grille, Giovanni's Italian Kitchen, and Izumi. There is a casino which I found to be on the smaller side and always crowded. Multiple bars throughout the ship to take advantage of your drink packages. I've learned that every cruise can be a different experience based on who you travel with and what level of social involvement you are sailing with at the time. This trip was all about relaxation form me and enjoying the suite cabin and benefits and for that, it was a great trip. If you're curious, this includes priority embarkation with a separate lounge as well as priority disembarkation which enabled us to beat traffic getting off the island, access to the suite lounge where they serve continental breakfast and also happy hour drinks and snackies in the evening, reserved seating in the main theater shows and ice shows, complimentary room service from the main dining room dinner service, and reserved lounges on the pool deck. The perks were nice and the cabin was perfect for my weekend getaway.

I have always preferred Royal Caribbean for our cruises. This most recent cruise included my daughter, daughter in law, and granddaughter. All over the age of 30! DIL and granddaughter had never cruised. This was their maiden cruise. Everything was going great, until a bedbug was found in one of our cabins. Not good. Daughter and granddaughter were moved into a new room and all of their clothes and personal items were removed. Clothes were sent to the laundry. Took over a day to get the clothes returned. Once returned, several items were ruined and one item was missing. Just not a good experience this time. The stop in Costa Maya was fun. We rented a golf cart to run around in. Cozumel was a fun stop as well. We will continue to cruise RC with hopes of never again a bed bug issue!!

This is my second cruise, but my first with Royal Caribbean. I am loving this way of traveling because it is easy. Everyday there is an all you can eat breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet and at the main dining hall. So much variety, there is something for everyone including the picky eaters or people with dietary restrictions. Each night had a theme, like taste of France, Italy, Caribbean (so much fun). Takes the stress out of traveling and making dining and/or entertainment reservations. Our main dining waiter and assistant waiter were friendly and helpful. We did all of our dinner dining at the dining hall and breakfast and lunches at the buffet. Throughout the day there was plenty of entertainment to keep us busy. I did pickleball, ice skating, laser tag, etc. While on the cruise ship. There are additional activities that require payment like a rock climbing wall, flow ride, etc. We also attended bingo, karaoke, magic shows, casino, comedy show, ice skating show, and etc. As a group while on the ship. We had one day in Cozumel and we paid extra for an excursion to the jungle to ride ATVs, and then relaxed on the beach. If you do decide to drive ATVs in the jungle, be sure to bring mosquito repellent because they are vicious out there. Even though I was drenched in citronella, I still got about 10 bites all over my body including my face. On the beach, we got to go kayaking and sunbathe on lounge chairs with umbrellas at no additional charge. We all had a great time, and definitely the best way to do group/family/friends trip.

The top 10 biggest cruise ships in the world

M odern cruise ships continue to grow in size, with the biggest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas , launching at the start of this year, and her sister ship the Star of the Seas expected to surpass her in size.

Both of these ships are operated by Royal Caribbean International, which operates five of the ten largest cruise ships in the world. Carnival Corporation, arguably the biggest cruise company in the world, features three times on the list through its subsidiaries P&O Cruises and Costa Cruises.

All of the heaviest cruise ships in the world were built within the last 20 years, although the majority – six of the ten – were built within the last five years.

So, here are the top ten biggest cruise ships in the world, by gross tonnage.

10. P&O Cruises MS Arvia : 185,581 gross tonnes

The MS Arvia is P&O Cruises’ fourth ship to be built by German shipyard Meyer Werft. Weighing in at 185,581 gross tonnes, the 345m (1,130-foot) Arvia is slightly larger than her sister ship, the MS Iona . The 20-deck ship is the largest ship commissioned for the British cruise market and has a maximum passenger capacity of 6,264 passengers, with 1,800 crew onboard.

The ship is the second liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered Excellence-class vessel for P&O, following the Iona . Arvia is powered by a 61,760kW LNG drive system, with a propulsion power of 37 megawatts. The LNG-powered propulsion system allows the vessel to sail at a maximum speed of 21.5 knots.

After being floated out in August 2022, the Arvia mainly operates itineraries around the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.

9. Costa Cruises – Costa Smeralda : 185,010 gross tonnes

The Costa Smeralda is the first LNG-powered vessel in the Costa Cruises fleet. With a gross tonnage of 185,010gt, the 20-deck Excellence-class ship measures 337m (1,106 feet) in length. The second LNG-powered cruise ship to enter operation in the world, she has a maximum capacity of 6,554 passengers with 1,646 crew and a service speed of 21.5 knots.

Construction of the Costa Smeralda began at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, in September 2017. Meyer Turku collaborated with the Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard to develop and integrate the LNG propulsion plant for the ship. She is fitted with four 16-cylinder, Caterpillar MaK 16VM46DF engines, with 15.4 megawatts (20,710 horsepower) output per engine, resulting in a maximum power of  37 megawatts (50,000 horsepower).

The ship, which was named after the Emerald Coast of Sardinia, entered service in December 2019 , departing Savona on its maiden voyage in the Mediterranean, where it has sailed since.

Carnival Cruise Line: 10 Million Guests From Galveston

  • May 16, 2024

10th Million Guest

Carnival Cruise Line announced it has further solidified its position as the market leader in Galveston, Tex., becoming the first cruise operator to embark 10 million guests from the port.

Marsha Taulton of Houston was recognized on the Carnival Breeze as the 10 millionth Carnival guest cruising from Galveston.

Taulton and her husband, Paul, were welcomed aboard by Capt. Isidoro Renda and Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO Rodger Rees, and the ship’s team led an impromptu celebration of the landmark embarkation.

“This is an achievement that speaks to the success of our longstanding partnership with the port and the greater Galveston community,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We are grateful to our guests who have sailed with us from Galveston over the past two decades, continually driving the popularity of this homeport forward. The future is certainly bright, as we’re delighted to welcome more guests aboard than ever before from this great city – next stop, 20 million!”

The 10 millionth guest milestone follows an expansion of Carnival service at the port that began with the introduction of the cruise line’s new flagship, Carnival Jubilee, which was the first new cruise ship to be christened in Galveston. The expansion continues in October when Carnival Miracle begins sailing from Galveston and completes a four-ship deployment strategy. At the end of this year, Carnival’s guest capacity in Galveston is expected to increase by 20 percent compared to last year, carrying more than 800,000 guests.
