On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You'll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Cool Hawaii over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Be sure to go hungry for this food tour! Although a bit pricey, the food was good & the guides were even better. Started out at a bakery & the guides took our coffee/drink orders & then ordered around 6 choices for each person! If you go with someone, best to split the different choices & take the rest home (they provided boxes & had a big yeti cooler). Had everything from malasadas (couple choices; passion fruit and a taro one that was quite tasty), donuts, etc. Then on to a local fish store that had all sorts of poke. Again a ton of choices from salmon lomi lomi to octopus to opeihi and a ton of others. Then on to try some garlic butter shrimp served with/garlic rice - also drink orders taken. So yummy. Finally on to a shave ice cream- the best on the island. Our guide made a recommendation, but you could choose from any of the multitudes of choices. The van was spotless w/great air conditioning. The commentary along the way was great - lots of historical info & where to go for best saimen, kimchee fried rice, etc. Guides even went so far as to give us their mobile numbers in case we had any questions or needed recommendations after the tour.

Be sure to go hungry for this food tour. Total of 4 stops. 1st one at a bakery where our 2 guides took coffee/drink orders and got an assortment of pastries. Each person was ordered about six different things from mochi/taro donuts to butter mochi & malasadas. No one can eat it all, so they make sure there are boxes for the left overs. They have a Yeti cooler in the back of their nicely appointed van as well as plenty of plates, forks, napkins & wipes. Next stop was a poke/seafood store. Tried a number of different great pokes from octopus to Lomi Lomi salmon, ahi & others and some shellfish. People that had not eaten "raw" fish were pleasantly surprised - mainly because the fish is soooo fresh. Next up was lunch - some really garlicky big shrimp w/a couple scoops of rice .... So delicious. Our tour guides Victor & TJ were very attentive, buying all the food - making sure we had utensils & the drinks of our choice, etc. Last stop was the best shaved ice on the island. Victor made a couple of recommendations, but you could order what you wanted. Both he & TJ served us as we sat in the shade. The nicest gesture is the fact that after we talked about Li Hing Mui powder topping, Victor bought a packet for each of the couples - so very thoughtful! Ok, so the food was good, but the patter about the area, specific buildings and G2 about .. what's the best saimen place? Where would you for kimchee fried rice, where can you get good mangoes, etc. was great. Victor & TJ were both very personable & went out of their way to learn people's names very early in the tour. They helped take pictures of the group and knew a lot about the island & the restaurants. They volunteered their phone numbers & said to text if we had any questions or problems after the tour was done. At the end, we came back with so many leftovers, we'll cancel our dinner reservations to eat it.

  • 599NicholasG 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best tour on the island!!! I have lived on Oahu for three years and am getting ready to move, which prompted my HI bucket list. Top of that list was a food tour! I was excited when I found the "Off The Beaten Path" tour online and was able to book easily given they offer it multiple times per week! The morning of the tour, Victor picked me up right on time. There were already three other groups on the van (two couples and a granddaughter with her grandparents). The whole experience was super fun and everyone got along great. Victor was easy to talk to, offered everyone multiple local recommendations and ensured everyone engaged with one another. The tour itself was out of this world. I was unsure of how much actual food we would try and it turned out that it was A TON. I needed up coming home with tons of leftovers and was stuffed by the end of the 16 samplings. Come hungry for sure and don't miss out on this great company/tour! Read more Written 29 April 2024

He knew all about the different foods and explained them in lay men's terms so we all had a better appreciation about the food, sauces and ways they were prepared. Additionally, he brought along wipes knowing some of the food was finger food and "juicy, juicy." Victor obviously has a great rapport with all the vendors and they were smiling and so helpful to him and all of us. He also made us feel like family because he remembered/called us by our names, Curtis and Laura. He also has a great sense of humor and is very personable. Read more Written 14 April 2024

  • jankgi 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A great guide and tour. A great way to see Chinatown food offerings. Victor is a gracious, attentive guide and remarkable ambassador for Hawai’i, the history and its many cultures. And, what a handsome Dude. He remembered everyone’s name from the start. He knew the vendors we visited and many others we passed. The stops were timely and organized. Victor made sure we all got the supplies we needed to eat each food, carrying an abundant supply of wet wipes for our hands. At each stop, there was a generous serving of each food or dish to try. Victor and the vendors had lids and plastic bags to use for leftovers. With 16 stops, there was plenty of food! The sliced tuna was buttery and almost melted in your mouth. The roast duck and pork so flavorful, the steamed buns were tender & dry, stuffed with moist & tender pork or wild boar. My favorite stop was the fruit stand where we had both more familiar and less familiar fruits: from mango & papaya to soursop, mangosteen & longans. We finished with poke and the bright green Vietnamese Pandan Cake. A great experience with a lovely guide to make it even better! Read more Written 12 April 2024

Here on vacation for my birthday and my husband and I just got back to our hotel from this tour and had to immediately leave a review! Victor was FANTASTIC! I was shocked with the amount of food we not only sampled but the SIZES of the samples. They are not kidding when they say, "come with an empty stomach and skip breakfast"! This was, by far, one of the best tours I've ever been on. We sampled authentic food that we otherwise wouldn't have even known about if it hadn't of been for this tour. We tried so many different fruits, Filipino food, Korean, Japanese, seafood, pork belly, duck, Vietnamese and a few desserts. There's something for everyone on this tour! With the 15-16 samples we tried, I enjoyed every single one of them. I figured I'd been sneaking some to my husband but that was not the case. My favorite was the Tuna- I have never had tuna quite like it. We're planning on going back while we are here- to eat some of the things we tried on this tour and a few that we saw along the way. We had a ton of leftovers that we were able to bring back as well. You'll be provided with to go bags and covers WHEN needed (definitely not IF). Victor was also very accommodating and knowledgeable, not just about the food but Hawaii in general. He gave us a ton of recommendations for the rest of our stay and even said we could text or call for any other information/recommendations we might need. He was so pleasant and very welcoming- not just to those of us on the tour but the locals as well. You can tell he's loved by everyone. I would take this tour again the next time I visit Hawaii. If I was staying here for longer than 4 days, I would have done it again at the end! You get your money's worth AND more. Thanks again, Victor! We will recommend this tour to everyone! Mahalo! Shave Ice – Shave ice is finely ground ice covered in a fruity syrup, sometimes served with condensed milk or ice cream. My favorite flavor is passion fruit!

Acai Bowls – An acai bowl is a type of smoothie bowl made from pureed acai berries, typically blended with other fruits and topped with things like granola, nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit.

Malasadas – Malasadas are a type of doughnut that are deep fried without a hole in the center, and dusted with sugar or filled with custard cream.
