Alternatively, you can just drive on your own, or if you are coming in a group, a private cab can also be an economical option.

Old Manali has a charm of its own, and that is something that can be experienced only by staying there, and wandering on the streets.

The best way is to start the day with a relaxed breakfast at Rockyā€™s Cafe . For this youā€™ll have to go all the way till Manu Temple.

After having a nice hearty breakfast, you can either choose to make Rockyā€™s Cafe your Workstation With a View, or can slowly start descending, taking your time, and checking out anything that catches your eye.

You can even cross the river, and enjoy a stroll to Hadimba Temple.Ā

While you are near Hadimba Temple, you might also want to check out Southern Souls , if you are craving some delicious South Indian food.

You can call it a day, whenever you feel tired, or when it starts to get dark.

Day 3 of this One Week Trip to Manali is reserved for a Road Trip to Lahul Valley via Atal Tunnel . Atal Tunnel aka Rohtang Tunnel, built under the Rohtang Pass, that took around 10 years to be fully operational, has become the most famous attraction for everyone who is visiting Manali.

View before entering Atal Tunnel from Manali

At a length of 9.02 kms, Atal Tunnel is the longest tunnel above 10,000 feet , and cuts the travel time between Manali and Leh by around 3-4 hours. You enter the tunnel in Manali and end up in the Lahul Valley . And the very fact that you can travel from Manali to Sissu in 15-20 minutes via the Atal Tunnel is what has turned Atal Tunnel into the most talked about attraction in and around Manali.

Under ideal conditions, one can go all the way till Baralacha La Pass and come back to Manali on the same day, however if you take your time, there are plenty of nooks and corners enroute Darcha, where you can spend time just enjoying the moment and the scenery.

Darcha

One can always take a cab, however to truly experience the thrill of riding through the Atal Tunnel and immersing yourself in the surroundings, go on a bike / scooty.

PS ā€“ There are plenty of places from where you can rent a 2 wheeler in Manali.

Deemed to be the prettiest grassland trek in Himachal, the Bhrigu Lake Trek is something that should definitely be on your radar, which is why I have added the Bhrigu Lake Trek in this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary.

Bhrigu lake trek manali

While the best time to do the trek is definitely between May and September , when itā€™s all green and the clouds are at your level, one can trek up to Bhrigu Lake practically any time of the year, subject to the weather conditions.

Please note that the temperature during summers hovers around 20-25 C in the daytime and falls to 5-7 C at night. In winter the temperature gets lower with 10-15 C around daytime and nearly 0 to -7 C at night. Almost half a year the lake remains frozen, and one can enjoy the sight of snow even during the early summer time.

Bhrigu Lake Trek is a Easy ā€“ Moderate level trek, and can be easily done in 2 days, provided it hasnā€™t snowed yet , as snow makes the trail more tricky and you need to be cautious and you ultimately end up taking more time

On Day 1 you trek for roughly 4-5 hours covering a distance of 6 kms from the starting point at Gulaba at an altitude of 9000 feet until the campsite at Rola Kholi, which is at an altitude of 12,500 feet.

Rola Kholi Campsite | Bhrigu Lake Trek | Manali 7 Day Travel Itinerary

On Day 2 you start early in the morning and start the 4-5 kms trek uphill to reach Bhrigu Lake from Rola Kholi. Ideally it should take you around 3-4 hours to reach Bhrigu Lake, which is at an altitude of 14,000 feet , while taking intermediate breaks enroute to snack on and to enjoy the mesmerising views of the mighty Himalayan Peaks including Deo Tibba and Hanuman Tibba.

A 30 ā€“ 45 minute stoppage at Bhrigu Lake should be more than enough for you to take it all in !

The Views enroute

On the way down, it shouldnā€™t take you more than 2 hours to reach back to the campsite Rola Kholi, where you have your brunch / lunch.

If you happen to go with any trek company, chances are that youā€™ll stay back at the campsite for the night, but we recommend you to start heading back to Gulaba by 2 ā€“ 3 PM max.

As itā€™s all downhill, you should be back to Gulaba by 6 PM, and you can go back to your hotel/hostel ā€“ take a relaxing hot shower, have a hearty meal, and have a good nightā€™s sleep.

Yes, you will be stretching it out on Day 2 and will be walking for almost 16 kms, but trust me, itā€™s better than staying an extra night in the tents, and walking down on the 3rd day.Ā

Alternatively, you can also check out the Lama Dugh Trek, if Bhrigu Lake Trek is not feasible.

A 45 minute ā€“ 1 hourĀ  drive from Old Manali is Hallan Village ā€“ A quaint hamlet in the lap of Himalayas, away from the chaos of Manali. And in this quaint hamlet, you will find a couple of rustic home-stays and hostels,Ā  with unparalleled views of the majestic Himalayas, that can be your new Workstation with a view .

If you are lucky and there are clouds in the sky, you will fall in love with the setting, as the skies in front of you will be a canvas dotted with clouds, and numerous colours during sunrise and sunset.

manali trip song

The best thing about spending the day in Hallan ā€“ 1 , is that there are no distractions, and you donā€™t have to go anywhere looking for food, meaning you can be at peace, and have your creative juices flowing.

Being away from the hustle bustle of city life and the crowd that Manali attracts , Hallan ā€“ 1 is without a doubt, one of the best places to be based out of during your Workation in Manali Ā  as you can easily Disconnect wIth the World and Re-Connect with yourself.

As itā€™s the last day of this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary , you can either wake up early and catch one last sunrise in paradise or can take it slow and wake up whenever you do without having to worry about the alarm.

Take in the last few moments of the bliss, soak it all in, and post lunch head back to the bus stop and take the bus to Chandigarh / Delhi.

#1 If you donā€™t want to do a long trek such as Bhrigu Lake Trek or Lama Dugh, you can opt for shorter hikes around Manali. And the ones that Iā€™ll recommend are a hike up to Jogni Waterfalls , and a hike to Manali Wildlife Sanctuary , which is one of Manaliā€™s Hidden Wonders.

#2 If you are a solo traveller, I highly recommend you to check into one of the hostels in Old Manali such as The Hosteller Manali | YOLO Backpackers ā€“ Manali | Alt Life Manali | Zostel Manali Ā  , so that you can interact and meet fellow travellers and plan for the activities listed in this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary, together. Itā€™ll end up being more economical.

#3 If time permits, and you can extend your stay, you might also want to check out some of these Boutique Home-stays in and around Manali such Zostel Homes Shuru | Mid Orchard Cottage | Zostel Homes Rumsu from where you can Work from Mountains as well.

Travel Diary to Manali : A solo backpacker journey

Photo of Tushar Rathore

Life is a long road we travel, from experiencing the beauty of path filled with flowers to continue the journey with hard rocks beneath our legs. Many a times there is an uncertainty in our way which has either sweet or bitter taste.

Well, in my case the roads turned out to be thrilling one, there was a great gush of my adrenaline with every moment my chartered bus traveled along its way to Manali . There was a mixed feeling of excitement and guilt as the dream of going on a lone journey was finally coming true with the fact that my family still supposed that I was doing my internship in Delhi.

The bus continued along its way taking sharp turns every other minute and I saw a beautiful yet scary face of nature which was welcoming me and at the same time challenging with narrow roads and deep valleys. The long boredom of my internship had finally been broken and I felt wondered at how the ā€˜untouchedā€™ songs from the playlist of my cell phone were making me feel amazed as if revealing their beauty to which I finally surrendered to sleep.ā€ Cherry lenge bhaiya, Himachal ki special h ā€ broke my sleep as I saw a group of mature women standing beside my seat in the bus who were as energetic as the chilling morning winds and their face as red and welcoming as the cherries they were selling. It was 7 AM in the morning and I was 80 kilometers away from Manali, 40 Km from the Kullu Valley. After the minute hand of my wrist watch completed its two rounds, I reached Manali.

A serene town located amidst the ā€˜aanchalā€™ of the Himalayas. Manali had everything it takes to describe ā€˜someoneā€™ beautiful. In this case the indefinite pronoun was a city where my shoes had just stepped in. I checked-in at a Backpacker hostel ā€˜The Lost Tribeā€™. After a refreshing breakfast, I started my journey. On my expedition to explore Himalayas, I turned my way towards a 2 Km long trek which led its way towards the Hidimba temple. The ancient temple which was named after Hidimba Devi, the wife of brave Pandava ā€˜Bhimaā€™ and the mother of ā€˜Ghatotkachā€™. A three storeyed building built with rocks and wood, it stood proudly with skeletons of many animals on its wall. Thoughts of YJHD were being recollected in my mind as I made the way to ā€˜Clubhouseā€™. Like any other clubhouse, it had video games, disc and indoor sports. The only thing I liked was boating as excluding that, all things there seemed mundane.

The hostel indeed was the best in quality. After the dinner, we sat around a bonfire sharing stories with each other. The guy next to me was a Canadian who explained the beauty of India experienced by him in his two months long journey. There were stories from a Hyderabadi Guy who was on a mission to finish visiting all the states of India before turning thirty to a young Irish couple who were expressing their love in a unique way, by traveling. Stories continued from a group of ā€˜Royal Enfieldā€™ travelers who returned from their Ladakh trip to my story of coming alone after leaving my internship in between.

The night grew darker and the beats of the songs with headphones on my ears was even louder. Indeed a mesmerizing view was there in front of me looking like a perfect scenery with light of the huts flickering in the dark backgrounds of the mountains. It looked like a perfect bouquet of lights like showing many colors of life, some vibrant, some dull but in the end, a very beautiful picture soothing my eyes. The songs of ā€˜Coldplayā€™ and ā€˜The Beatlesā€™ echoed in silence. While probably other people in Manali were making out love that night, I made peace with the nature.

Second day started with a soul full of energy as I made my way towards the Beas River. Sitting by the riverside and contemplating the mountains was the best feeling I ever had. The cold water kept flowing as if telling to never stop, but to move on. The sun rose from the mountains and the quote ā€˜Rise and Shineā€™ never felt that real earlier. The great Himalayas stood high resembling the might and power it held within, yet very gentle and humble giving shelter to a prolific wildlife. The precious stones along the riverside were shining brightly on my behalf for giving this precious gift from God, ā€˜Lifeā€™.I continued exploring Manali and went to Solang valley for paragliding. Itā€™s amazing how we felt in childhood when birds could fly and we wondered if we had wings. It came true for me as I jumped from a breathtaking height. Those few moments in the sky were moments of thrill and adventure in my life. As if the time had stopped and high I stood, up above the world. It was incredible looking down from such a height, seeing myself float above the Earth, suspended by nothing but a canopy and a harness. Finally the evening embarked my visit to the beautiful Buddhist monasteries. The Gadhan Tekchoking Gompa is situated on Mall road. If you still were not connected to the nature, this is the place to find your soul. The beautiful idol of Lord Buddha with aromatic fragrance of the Tibetan incense laid an enchanting charm on me that made me lure to visit the place again. The next day was probably the brightest of all. As I said, people here have something different, something beautiful within them. How could luck so favor me, that I met a girl Gautami. A girl in her mid-twenties whose eyes sparkled like a diamond as if celebrating every moment of being alive, talking non-stop . An accident meeting at first place, she made me to visit old Manali. An enthralling village that has beautiful cafes with sophisticated names and local shops lined on both sides of the road. Many foreigners gravitates towards the beauty of Old Manali.

A tranquil place located amidst snow capped mountains with apple orchards and traditional houses made with mud and woods. Sloshing river adds more to the feeling of solace. She made me visit many cafes, ambiance of all of those was unique in their own way. Itā€™s amazing when you meet a girl who exactly resembles with the one whom you loved so much. In every way from her gentle yet captivating smile to her ā€˜non stop talkingā€™ way in which she defined the beauty of Manali to me. That day made me nostalgic and it was one of the best days of my life. We still talk, though on WhatsApp.

Finally it was the time for me to bid adieu to the wonderful place that will dominate my mind for a long time.I came from Manali but probably left a little piece of mine there. New learnings, some cool friends was all that Manali gifted to me. You travel to let your soul free, finding the real peace. Probably, a travel bug had bitten me, whose poison still brings a smile on my face.

Travel Guide to Manali, India

manali trip song

Georg Schieren / EyeEm / Getty Images

Surrounded by snowy mountain peaks, Manali, India, is a popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh for Indians and adventurous foreign travelers. The Middle Himalaya Range provides a scenic backdrop while exploring Manali and the region.

Locals come to Manali for the fresh air and winter sports. Western travelers often use the mountain town as a base for trekking and outdoor adventures. Everyone enjoys the snowy scenery; a mountain stream passes right through town.

The Best Way to Get to Manali

Manali is around 350 mountainous miles from Delhi and is situated along the Beas River in the Kullu Valley at an elevation of 6,725 feet (2,050 meters).

The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar in Kullu (airport code: KUU ), but flights are intermittent. With no railway, reaching Manali typically involves a long, winding bus that crosses mountain passes at high elevation. Don't bemoan the lack of options: The fact that Manali is difficult to reach contributes to its charm (and lack of over development).

Bus From Delhi: You can take a 14-hour Volvo night bus from Delhi to Manali. Overnight buses usually depart around 5 p.m. and arrive late the next morning.

Buses do not have an onboard toilet, however, they make frequent stops. Plan on a very bumpy, winding ride! Take precautions if you are prone to car sickness. For better mountain views, sit on the right side of the bus. If you're squeamish about seeing the road drop off around some turns, sit on the left!

Bus From Dharamsala to Manali: Volvo tourist buses from Mcleod Ganj and Dharamsala leave nightly at 8:30 p.m.; the journey takes around nine hours.

Orientation

Tourist buses and minibuses usually arrive at a private bus lot around 200 meters south of Manali. Public buses arrive at the bus lot in the center of town. You can easily walk north on the main road (Mall Road) to town or grab one of the waiting autorickshaws ; always agree on a price before getting inside.

The wide, busy strip through Central Manali is known as "The Mall." Although there are several grungier hotel options along the main drag and on side streets, most travelers prefer to stay just outside of town in either Old Manali or across the river in Vashisht.

Many travelers escape hectic Central Manali by walking north up the leg-burning hill to peaceful Old Manali. The single strip through Old Manali is dotted with plenty of budget and midrange accommodation options . Tourist-oriented restaurants serve Indian, Tibetan food, and lots of Western favorites; you'll even find Mexican food and sushi on some menus!

Old Manali is an excellent choice for escaping the busy Mall but staying within range of town. Walk north on Mall Road then continue north on Circuit House Road to the steel bridge. Cross the river and turn left; numerous signs indicate where to go.

A little less accessible but certainly good for tight budgets, Vashisht is strung out along the hill across the Beas River and highway opposite of Old Manali.

To reach Vashisht, you'll have to cross the bridge just north of Central Manali then walk north along the busy Naggar Highway. You can turn right and continue walking along Vashisht Road or take a small, steep trail through a hillside community to Vashisht. Otherwise, an autorickshaw from Central Manali is inexpensive.

The vibe in Vashisht is laid back but in a different way than Old Manali. Plenty of backpackers on shoestring budgets head to Vashisht for the cheap accommodation and good views from balconies and rooftops.

Tips for Visiting Manali

  • Internet access is more reliable in Old Manali. Many cafes and guesthouses have free Wi-Fi , however, speeds vary. Check to see that a connection is working before you commit to buy something.
  • You'll find many ATMs in Central Manali around the northern end of the Mall. For safety, opt to use ATMs that are attached to bank branches when possible.
  • Many shops and restaurants in Manali close down around mid October. Some of the owners head home or move to Goa for the winter months.
  • Motorbike rentals are an option for experienced drivers to reach the many natural attractions just outside of town. Otherwise, you can consider hiring a driver for the day.
  • Although hash and marijuana are smoked openly (especially in Vashisht) both are still illegal in India.

Things to Do in Manali

Manali is an epicenter in Himachal Pradesh for outdoor adventure sports. From rock climbing and multi-day treks to paragliding and even zorbing, Manali is a happy playground for adrenaline seekers. Numerous agencies around Vashisht and Old Manali can arrange exciting activities.

Two hot springs, one in Vashisht and one in Kalath, are famous for their mineral-rich water purported to have health benefits.

Whitewater rafting is an option during the dry season. The river can become too swift during monsoon season.

Skiing is available during the winter months in the Solang Valley, just eight miles north of Manali.

When to Visit in Manali

The weather in Manali varies greatly throughout the year. Even in October you'll sweat in a T-shirt on sunny days then shiver at night when temperatures dip sharply. Summers can bring temperatures around 80 degrees F , but the mercury can drop well below freezing from October to April. Dress appropriately! Most guesthouses do not have central heating, but personal heaters can sometimes be rented for an additional charge.

Mountain weather is unpredictable; always plan for rain or quick temperature changes when setting out on an adventure, especially if you're hitting the trails self guided.

Where to Go After Manali

  • McCleod Ganj: Overnight buses from Manali take around nine hours. Don't plan on much sleep along the bumpy ride, but a chance to see Tsuglagkhang, home of the 14th Dalai Lama , is worth the trip.
  • Kullu: The interesting, mountain town of Kullu is around three hours away by bus.

Whether to escape from blistering heat or enjoy the white winters, here's a monthly breakup of Manali's climatic conditions so that you can plan accordingly:

September to February – The monsoons draw to an end in September and winter starts setting in from October. The temperature in winter months can go down to -1 °C, so make sure you carry enough woollens to keep yourself warm.

December end to January – a time to enjoy snowfall and the spectacular scenic white views of the surrounding mountains, making it a favourite with the honeymooners. This is the ideal time for adventure enthusiasts who want to go skiing.

March to June –  Summer steps in from March but the weather is still pleasant. The temperatures during these summer months usually vary between 10°C to 25°C, so you might still need light woollens during the night. This is the perfect time to indulge in outdoor activities such as paragliding, rafting, trekking and mountain adventures in the Solang Valley. This is also the time when the region’s flora is in full bloom lending it the most pristine natural beauty.

July to August –  Monsoons in Manali can be tricky as the region experiences heavy rainfall, which can also sometimes lead to landslides. But considering a lot of tourists don’t prefer to travel during this time, the prices of hotels tend to drop.

Solo Manali Trip Under Rs. 4600 – How I Summed-up was Amazing!

' data-src=

Often, it becomes tough ( make it as a majority of the time )Ā  to travel on an extreme budget. For example, a solo Manali Trip from Delhi on a budget of under Rs.4600, and that too for 4 days, would sound highly disciplined.

Yes, you heard it right. In this post, I will guide you on how I ended up making a Solo trip to Manali on an Extreme Budget.

Manali and covering Naggar, Vashisht & Jagatsukh by staying 4 Days.

Please keep reading till the end to know how I did it & how you can do it.

Solo Manali Trip on a Budget

Table of Contents

How to Reach from Delhi to Manali

Since I was making the Solo Manali Trip on an Extreme budget.

i.e., the easiest and cheapest method to reach Manali is by bus. The Delhi to Manali distance is 540km approx.

I had booked my bus online, and they charged me Rs.1198. The bus Pit stopped for dinner at Dhaba for Rs.154.

You can book Delhi to Manali buses from ISBT Kashmiri Gate & the list of buses is shown below in the chart.

You can also enquire on these numbers to book a bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate – 01123860290 , 01123865472 .

ISBT Kashmiri Gate Bus list

Delhi – Manali ( Volvo ) overnight bus

Always try to book the departing bus time between 5 p.m.-8 p.m. because the Volvo buses take around 12hr-13hr to reach Manali. It will give you the advantage of reaching out early & utilizing the morning time usefully.

You should check the bus dropping point.

On that day, due to some bus roadblocks, the Volvo bus dropped everyone at the Patlikuhal. The Patlikuhal to Manali private bus parking distance is 17km.

You can take a local Himachal bus from the Patlikuhal bus stand towards Manali if this situation arises. The bus fare from the Patlikuhal bus stand to Manali will be Rs.30. The local buses will drop you at the Manali bus stand near Manali Mall road.

Chandigarh to Manali

Likewise, Delhi, Chandigarh is a central hub for the nearby place in Himachal.

The Daily HRTC both Ordinary and Volvo buses run between Chandigarh to Manali route. The bus will take around 7-8hrs on average from Chandigarh to reach Manali.

Hostel in which I had Stayed

I stayed at the Hosteller during my Solo Manali Trip

I stayed in a hostel named The Hosteller in Aleo, Manali. It is around 3.5km away from the Manali Bus stand & the shared dorm price was Rs.997 for 3 Nights.

It’s located in a fantastic location & the reviews are satisfying too, i.e., I decided to book.

You can also choose to stay in the hostels of old Manali .

If you love to make new like-minded friends on your Solo Manali trip, then the hostel is where you should aim.

Manali Temperature

Jan – april.

Weather in Manali from Janā€“ to April ranges from 5 degrees ā€“ to 20 degrees. It’s an offseason in Manali and continues until April, starting from January. Heavy snowfall could attract visitors but often leads to roadblocks.

One of the best things about the offseason is less crowd. But unfortunately, the Rohtang also remains closed from Jan – to April ( Depending on the weather condition ).

May – Aug

May – Aug remains the demanding season. The heat in the city remains on top, and the mountain comes to rescue people.

Pleasant weather makes the Manali most visited in this season.

The month-end of Sept ends the monsoon, and the winter bangs on the doors at the starting of Nov.

4 Days Solo Trip to Manali

Day 1 – manali.

Manali is situated at an altitude of 6725 ft from sea level.

I started out to explore Manali on my first day of Solo Manali Trip

Upon reaching the Manali at 10 a.m. I checked in to my hostel &, without wasting any time, quickly refreshed up & went out to explore the Manali.

I have started my Solo trip to Manali by exploring the town itself.

Left out to do Manali on a Budget

Hadimba Devi Temple

I started my journey towards Hadimba Devi Temple , around 3-4km away from where I was staying.

Note ā€“ I will be sharing walkable distances also and will let you know at the end the reason behind writing distances.

Hadimba Temple

Just before reaching the Hadimba Devi Temple, I had my lunch which is a Tikki with Dahi, for Rs.60 and relived the moment at Hadimba where Bunny told Nena from YJHD (Shaadi is like dal chawal for pachaas saal till you die. Aree life mein Thoda ā€¦. remembered ?).

I had spent some time admiring the beauty of Hadimba Devi Temple & if you will go ahead, there’s a Ghatotkach temple a few meters away.

I enquired about Old Manali from a local & he had directed me that the backside of the Hadimba Devi temple will take you straight to the Old Manali.

Immediately I left for Old Manali, which is about 2km from the Hadimba Devi temple.

Old Manali is also a very good option if you want to do Manali on a budget

Cafes and Hostels = Old Manali,

I had tried food in one of the cafes of Old Manali named The Sunshine CafƩ, which runs by a foreigner, and the food had cost be Rs.280.

One can also enjoy various adventure activities near Old Manali bridge & also Skeeing on the minor part of the land only when it had snowed in Manali.

I walked back from Old Manali to Manali Mall road in the evening to see the happenings around the place. I saw the Mela practiced by the locals of different villages at the Manali Mall road.

You can have a good time around Old Manali . In other terms, a pretty memorable time exploring this side of Manali.

It feels good to see youngsters showing their talent in music or adventure sports, making the environment lively and happening.

At Night, I returned to my hostel, and the dinner I ate was a Maggi for Rs.30.

I have noticed that Maggi all over Himachal costs almost the same rate of Rs. 30 or even more sometimes. So I had spent some time chilling with the hostel staff and went to sleep at 9 p.m. sharp.

*Note ā€“ Most of my traveling has been done by foot, and I will mention a vehicle if I had traveled in a car.

Day 2 – Naggar

The Ancient town - Naggar

How to Reach Naggar from Manali

Manali to Naggar can be easily reachable. Daily local buses go to Naggar from Manali.

Either take a bus from the Manali bus stand or pass by Aleo, Prini, etc.

I had left from Manali to Naggar at 8 a.m. the bus to Naggar passes from Aleo, or you can also take a bus from the Manali bus stand. The Manali to Naggar bus fare is Rs. 30 per person.

However, the buses pass through Aleo, whichever seems closer to you.

Picture on the Streets of Naggar was my best in the solo trip to Manali

Manali to Nagar distance is 22km. Naggar is situated at an altitude of 5905ft above sea level.

Upon reaching Naggar, I had my breakfast at a small Dhaba for Rs.25, which was also my leading food because it would be a long tiring day.

As soon as I was done with my breakfast, I started towards Naggar Castle , a steep climb and small villages.

Stay Options in Nagar

If you are willing to stay in Nagar, you will find lovely stays in Nagar. I think it’s also a good option considering the crowd Manali gets, and in search of peace, everybody gets lost in the group.

Nagar Castle

Naggar Castle

The entry fee to Naggar Castle is Rs. 15 per person & the very first sight is breathtaking. It was built (wood and stones), and maintenance was terrific.

You can even book your stay in Naggar Castle and inside there’s also a restaurant with a mountain view. I spent around 1-2 hr. in Naggar Castle and admired the beautiful surroundings from the top.

Naggar is not only about Naggar Castle; let me take you on unknown trails.

I had chosen a path from the two roads and continued my journey.

While passing by, I saw some kids playing cricket and couldn’t control myself and asked them, can I play? And shot some balls out of the ground, though.

I left to explore further to see where the road would take me. As I started to climb up, I reached a place named Dharkanti. The locals had told me the name of the village is Dharkanti.

Radha Krishna Temple - I had never thought that Manali on a budget will make me reach till here.

I had asked the same locality where the other road would take me. The local told me that there’s a Radha Krishna temple just about 1-2km ahead, and the temple is right in the lapse of mountains; it was a blissful feeling to reach there.

A local family takes care of the temple.

Without waiting, I continued my further exploration journey and was excited about what surprises it would bring.

Till now, the Solo trip to Manali has been going superb.

Again, I had come across two paths and had chosen one. While passing by, I had asked an individual what was ahead on this road & received a reply there was a village named Chichogi ahead. I couldn’t see anyone at a distance of 1km and once thought, am I the only one to reach this village?

Maybe or Maybe not.

But the locals told me that people during the summers.

I had reached Chichogi Village and confirmed from the very first house I saw. The lady asked me whether I wanted to buy some homemade socks.

And I told her YES.

Local of the Chichogi Village

I was not wearing the socks that day because they had gone wet.

The lady started to show me the collection of socks and told me it would cost Rs.100, and I couldn’t buy them because I was only left with Rs.40 change and she didn’t have the change of Rs.500 had to go back as well.

So, I decided to move back and felt very bad that I couldn’t buy socks.

The clouds started to appear, and I decided to move back from the same path I had reached Chichogi. So I had my lunch as Maggi for Rs.40.

Naggar to Manali Bus

The Naggar to Manali bus fare was Rs.40 per person, and I stepped down at Prini and walked till I reached my hostel.

In the evening, I had my dinner at Manali mall road for Rs.80; it was quite away from mall road. I cannot even think of eating at mall road because of budget constraints on the Solo Manali trip.

I have to keep an eye on the Manali trip expenses as well.

Distance covered on foot on Solo Manali Trip

Day 3 – Vashisht

How to reach vashisht from manali.

Manali to Vashisht can be reached on foot as I had done or else you can take a shared taxi.

There’s a shortcut on the Leh – Manali highway after the petrol pump takes straight up to Vashisht, but it’s steep.

I had started my journey towards Vashisht Manali at 8 a.m. from Aleo to Vashisht by foot & as soon as I reached Vashisht, I had my breakfast as an omelet and lemon tea for Rs.80. Vashisht is situated at an altitude of 6725ft above sea level.

Note – Let me tell you, all the mountains are on a long steep climb, so be prepared or take a vehicle that will drop you.

Vashisht Baths

The Vashisht Baths are believed to be 4000 years old, and there’s a hot water spring called Vashisht Kund inside the temple.

You can take a bath in hot water springs. Upon spending some time there, IĀ started my way toward Jogini falls.

Jogini Falls

I passed through the village forest and belief that it was your life, don’t ever quit. The Solo trip to Manali was going memorable.

The way towards Jogini falls

I hadn’t seen such a waterfall at that height before and was mesmerized to reach Jogini falls .

You can refill your water bottle from the river stream because it’s drinkable and pure water.

One can also hike straight up to see the large waterfall & it will take at least 1hr to reach and come down after that. Be careful, especially in the winter, because the path becomes slippery upon the arrival of the snow.

Bahang Village

Managed to reached Bahang Village on my Solo Manali Trip

I had asked a local what’s further, and he named “Bahang Village.”

The local accompanied along as he was going in the same direction. That’s a picturesque village as I can see the mighty snowcapped mountains in front of me and happy faces around the town.

There are very few houses, and hard-working people to see around made my day as all the tiredness of continuous walking has just blown away in a matter of time.

As I continued my journey & reached the main road, (Read this carefully) .

As soon as you reach the primary road, the left-hand side goes to Manali and the right to Solang valley via Nehru Kund.

The mistake I made here was I wanted to visit Nehru Kund, and instead of taking a right, I walked back the same route.

I bought a crack jack for Rs.20 & crossed Vashisht.

I had reached on-road, and the road was going towards the Nehru Kund. It took me around 10km to get.

But everything happens for a reason, as I got to see these happy faces.

These kids were playing, and I sat down & had a packet of biscuits in hand.

One of them asked, “Kya Kha Rha H, Merko Nhi Dega,” so I gave one biscuit, and all of them came and took 1-2 each and finished the packet in a blink of an eye.

Their mother took them back and told them to say thank you.

Vashisht Village

I continued my journey further and had my lunch in between at a Dhaba for Rs.60.

You can visit a mandir at Nehru Kund, the main attraction in Nehru Kund, and hot springs in Vashisht.

Manali- Rohtang Road

I could not walk back to my hostel as I had already walked around 25km the same day.

So, I took a shared taxi, the fare was Rs.20, and because of construction work in between, the shared cab had dropped me off just before Aleo.

I started getting an intuition that the Solo Manali trip was turning into something I hadn’t imagined.

At Night, I had a Maggi for Rs.40 and a soup for Rs.99, which sums up my day.

The sleep after hard work is so peaceful that I can’t describe it much.

The total distance covered by foot Today –

Distance covered on Solo Manali Trip by foot

Day 4 – Jagatsukh

How to reach jagatsukh from manali.

Jagatsukh from Manali is 14km, and it will take around 40-45min to reach.

To reach from Manali to Jagatsukh, you need to catch a bus going towards Naggar. Get down at Jagatsukh because it comes way before Naggar.

The Distance between Jagatsukh and Naggar is 18km & can get covered in a single day.

Aleo to Jagatsukh Manali bus fare is Rs.15 per person.

Upon reaching, I had my parantha breakfast at a Dhaba for Rs.30 since I was on a Solo Trip to Manali.

i.e., I needed to find the cheapest way others could do it.

While having breakfast, I gathered all the knowledge from the locals sitting inside the Dhaba.

One of them organizes treks: the famous Hampta pass, Beas Kund, and many more hikes in the Himalayas. In conversation with him, he told me the places I could go to Jagatsukh.

Jagatsukh Temple

I proceeded further & crossed the streets of Jagatsukh. Finally, I reached the 5000 years old Jagatsukh Gayatri temple, and on the same day, the preparations for the Mela were taking place.

I decided to spend some time there & further continued my journey.

Locals on the way to Banara Village

The local who met at the Dhaba guided me to Banara Village.

I left for Banara from the way the local had told me. It’s only a 20-25min walking distance.

As soon as I started walking towards the Banara Village, the steepness increased drastically like every 30 steps; I began to rest in between.

I met a local who is also going towards Banara Village, and he works for a trekking company.

The man thought I was a local too because of the Himachali cap. We had started to walk, and now when someone is there to talk, the endpoint seems reasonably achievable.

Locals of the Banara Village

I had reached Banara Village, and the locals told me about the big Pathar present there. The village people worship it as a god named Nag Devta/Patal Devta.

The path was so scary and very small that I managed to reach & take pictures of the big rock.

Nag Devta / Patal Devta

I wanted to know the history of the Devta, so I enquired in the village. A local took me to the head of the town, and he also didn’t know entirely about its history.

But, they welcomed me and invited me to come inside to eat something.

Banara Village

Jagatsukh to Manali Bus

If you go further, you will be crossing Shuru and can even go to Prini and Aleo from the Banara Village.

But to be on the safer side and considering the height, I decided to walk back down towards Jagatsukh & took the bus.

The Jakatsukh to Aleo bus fare was Rs.10 per person.

I have realized that sleep becomes sweet when the sweat in the winter comes and wipes the whole T-Shirt.

Before leaving one last time, I wanted to eat something heavy & eat my lunch at a Dhaba for Rs.170. The Manali to Delhi bus fare was Rs.1022.

I took a Bus from Manali Mall road and arrived at Green Tax Barrier to reach the pick-up point. It was about 6km from the mall road.

Distance covered on Solo Manali trip

Manali to Delhi

Both Ordinary & Volvo buses daily run between Manali to Delhi and take 12-13 hrs.

You must pre-book from Online portals like – MakeMyTrip etc., during heavy tourist season, i.e., May – July, and if possible, book a late-night bus because many buses leave during the evening, which causes a traffic jam.

4 Days Solo Manali Expenses

My Solo Manali Expenses sum’s up at Rs- 4,582 Other expenses of Rs. 67 , for Ex-a packet of chips, etc.

Total distance covered by foot ā€“ 79.68km ,

I have thought that I would be making a Solo Trip to Manali on a low budget but haven’t thought that I would walk this so much.

I had traveled the majority of the journey on foot. That was why my Solo Manali expenses were on the lower side.

That was the most suitable way, and if you are passionate enough, you can quickly make this Solo trip to Manali on a budget.

If you were willing to explore only Manali, then 1-2 days are pretty enough to spend in Manali.

If you have done something like this on a budget, comment below and share it with me.

Until then, see you on the roads.

  • Trip To Manali: ‘The Best Part Of Traveling Solo, Is That You Do Not Return Solo’

27 Mar 2023

A Digital Marketer by profession and a crazy traveler by passion ā€” Nirmala Salam is driven by a desire to explore new places, foods, peoples and cultures. In her attempts to celebrate New Yearā€™s Eve, she signed up for solo trip to Manali , organized by TravelTriangle . From being concerned about safety to making friends for life ā€“ Nirmalaā€™s, was quite a journey. Take a look.

ā€œI am happy when I travel and I travel to be happy!ā€

I have always been more of a traveller than a tourist. I am hardly ever concerned about a tour guide, or for that matter, even a travel companion. I had been exploring the itineraries of Manali trekking groups for a long. So, taking a pre-booked Manali solo trip with an unknown group on New Year, was about an adventure in itself!

Manali City Tour

Initially, I had planned to celebrate the New Year with some special members of my family. When that plan did not work out, I decided to do something other than my usual. I signed up for ā€œNew year celebration ā€“ Manali Hillsā€ (a Manali group trip organized by TravelTriangle), which I recently got to know about from a friend.

The idea of a solo trip to Manali with a bunch of 100+ unknown people was seemingly exciting but laden with doubts. Initially, I was a little insecure about safety but dared to face the challenge.

This Is How My New Year Trip To Manali Changed My Perspective On Group Tour

Heading back to Delhi

Day 1: First Impressions

My journey started on a bus from Delhi at 7 pm and the ride, soon, became trouble. With the noisy group sitting beside me, I began to complain about the company in my head. But as I got talking to them, I realized how unnecessarily judgmental I had been. The energy and enthusiasm of the young group gradually brought me comfort. Now, this, did, give me something to ponder ā€” Should the first impression always be last?

Day 2: The joy of company

Hotel Trishul in Manali

Well, we reached Manali, a little late than scheduled. Excited to settle in my room at Hotel Trishul, I ran into Deepti and Neha ā€“ two solo female travellers, and my roommates for the trip. We immediately struck a chord and in no time, they became like a long-lost friend to me.

at the Hadimba Temple

As the day proceeded, we were taken to the mesmerizing Hadimba Temple . Embraced in an array of tall Deodar trees, and with mountains in the backdrop ā€” the temple was quite a spectacle to look at. We roamed around the temple and befriended some other group-mates.

DJ night in Manali

Our soulful visit to the temple found a perfect contrast in the nightā€™s revelries. A party scene was set, to mark the beginning of the New Year. The DJ was on, dance was in full swing, and a cake was cut. Everyone was colored in the spirit of joy. With so much energy in the air, the night was a full-on blast.

Day 3: I wanna build a snowman!

Trekking in the snow in Manali

Scheduled for a visit to the Solang Valley during the day, we woke up at around 7 in the morning. The chilly weather was inducing a rush of excitement in me. Though I donā€™t set high expectations from any place that I visit, but playing in the snow and making a snowman were definitely on my wish-list this time.

Trekking with the group

We soon geared up for snow and went for a trek uphill. The trek laid bare different shades of the beauty of the valley. My much-longed desire to build a snowman was finally fulfilled, while we all made merry in the snow. In the evening, we indulged in some shopping at the Mall Road, before calling it a day!

Friends On An Adventure Trip To Manali: A Journey Full Of Joy And Thrill

Day 4: And the year begins

on our way back home

Come the last day of a trip and the memories you made, begin to flock your mind. Our stay at the hotel had come to an end, and I bid goodbye to the room where I had immense fun with my crazy roomies.

On the way back, we visited the Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib. The hot water spring in the Gurudwara refreshed my senses and the guru ka langar offered a perfect parting treat. Stuffed with langar , I took my leave from Manali and began the home-bound journey with some new-found friends.

The best part of traveling solo, is that you do not return solo. Some fond memories, friends, souvenirs and experiences; somehow, tag along.

High Points: My much-awaited trek in the snow and the crazy DJ night.

Low Point: The bus journey throughout the trip was very uncomfortable. Moreover, I think I missed out on visiting Old Manali. But I believe, it is good to miss something every time you travel. That makes you come back.

Madman's Journey

Manali Travel Blog 2023: Taste of the Spirited Peaks

Manali travel blog . Staying in Southern India, I was looking out to visit the northern peaks for quite sometime. And Manali was something of a dreamland for someone witnessing a part of the world’s highest mountain range.

The curvy roads that get slimmer as you move up to more deserted addresses. Quietness deafening (and frosty) at night but immediately lifts off when travelers from faraway places speak their warm stories before bed.

This place wasn’t my first thought considering the touristy hype. Yet for a first timer, it was quite an experience. Here’s all about my Manali travel blog.

*This post contains affiliate link(s). We only promote products we trust and use.

Table of Contents

Manali Travel Blog: The itinerary plan

Keeping budget in mind while balancing experiences like river rafting and the drive over Rohtang Pass, we came down priorities – Manali and Bir Billings for our almost 6 days itinerary.

We gave Manali 3 days which I felt was fairly sufficient to have a touch of the place. Picking aside the big-time adventures and treks, it leaves out the real town with its Old Manali market, cheap thrift stores in Vashisht, bridges over tiny streams, and steaming Siddu.

markets of manali

In the 3 days, neither did we miss on rafting in River Beas and trekking Jogini waterfalls, or spending a little more on a riverside cafe for an evening (it was expensive).

Factually speaking, we couldn’t let budget out of our sight mostly because we were visiting from Bangalore. Most visitors, who tend to be frequent, come from Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

“Hey, we’ve got vacation, let’s hit the road”… “where are we going?”… “How’s Manali? It’s a one-night drive anyhow”

If there’s a positive about Delhi, one can start to any northern part of India from Delhi. Visiting from the south, the budget is nothing short of a foreign trip. Flight expenses make a huge part of it. For first-timers with finite time, traveling gets expensive with sky-high touristy rates if we aren’t careful.

Manali Travel Blog: Our 3 days journey

Manali being the popular kid it is, a good move we took was prebooking our dormitory stay. I wished on trying cheaper remote hostels but we finally decided on sticking to the trusted comfort, Zostel.

Selling like hot cakes, we could only reserve one day at Zostel, Vashisht so we shifted to Zostel Old Manali for the other 2 days. Semi-sleeper buses to Manali are usually plentiful with more or less the same rate, yet we prebooked that as well.

We hadn’t planned on transport but a rough sketch was to rent out bikes. However, things turned out different. They always do, don’t they?

Flight to Delhi from Bangalore: A 6-hour delay

Manali budget trip: The trip started off perfectly – bags packed and squeezed into the taxi, dropped off right next to the trolley array. Air tickets to Delhi, check! The small hitch was when we entered the domestic departure, the 11:30 a.m. flight was cancelled. Not delayed, cancelled – due to a cyclone.

The officers at the baggage check-in couldn’t assure seats at the next flight to Delhi. One dude who later became a good pal along the trip thought out a strategy. He politely approached the head (or someone who looked it) and agreed to the next early evening (5:00 pm) flight.

premium lounge access bangalore airport

For compensation, he also requested the premium lounge access for the time period. Tagging in along, we were in for a treat for the following 5 hours. The buffet, comfortable seats, and even a mini library saved us a little on lunch.

We weren’t so worried as we had our Manali sleeper bus late at night. But inevitably, it was a rat race from the airport to the bus stop. Delhi’s heat was a cherry on top. We did somehow make it :)

Day 1: Vashisht, Jogini Falls, and Thrift Shops

Most overnight semi-sleepers from Delhi take an average of 14 hours to Manali. Taking the late night bus, we reached Manali around noon. With the local taxis hurdled as we alighted the bus, the idea of renting bikes went poof. Not to mention, the travel fatigue.

So we bargained our best with a taxi straight to our hostel in Vashisht Manali. It wasn’t a bad idea for 4 people.

We were only a group of 3 at first. But remember that smart dude with an idea at the Bangalore airport? All stars aligned and he came to Manali with us on the same bus and even had booked the same zostel booked for the evening! So he tagged along for the ride. We freshened up and went down the street for lunch.

Manali budget trip – Compared to Old Manali, Vashisht is way less touristy – something I loved about the place. The best part was the remote scenery.

Small houses on the banks of the river that flowed through the valley amidst peaks. From the Zostel, one could see the whole picture.

vashisht zostel manali

Added to it, the places to check out were in a walkable distance here.

Places to check out in Vashisht are:

  • Jogini Falls
  • Hot water spring
  • Vashisht temple
  • Thrift shops and cafes

Trekking Jogini Falls

Jogini Falls was nothing short of a small trek for a couple of hours. You can stay at the bottom and witness the amazing view of the cold waterfall far above in the cracks of the peak.

But the trek up is worth every step. The close-up of the painfully freezing water and to walk through it barefoot is something else. Most people naturally followed the others before them. It’s a sense of security I suppose.

As we walked a local lady covered in wrinkles, however, pointed at a remote route through trees where no one seemed to be going. We exchanged glances. I was in for an adventure.

Though with stops of hesitation as we found no one following behind or ahead, we made it to the same falls. And what a beauty it was! A large dog (or a wolf) tagged along and began drinking the freezing water from the large puddle of the falls.

So much for a natural landscape. Walking through the same puddle to the other side of the falls with shoes in hands, we made it to the other side. Alighting, we realized that the path down was the same one everyone were trying to go up from.

We were glad on listening to the sweet local lady :)

Thrift Stores for the evening

Manali budget trip – Hot water springs and Vashisht temple made up other parts of Vashisht. Our last stop for the day was the thrift stores down the narrow alleys of the locality. Himalayan handiworks, Kashmiri coats, and woollen accessories.

After some bargaining, we couldn’t help but get ourselves a warm jacket each. As for prices, we thought it expensive until we hit Mall Road. Vashisht, compared to Old Manali and Mall road, is way cheaper and definitely worth the visit for shopping.

rohtang pass, thrift stores manali

Not many people stay here thus keeping a local touch to the place. However, the local stores close in early evenings here.

Day 2: Rohtang Pass, Old Manali, and Mall Road

We’d called the same taxi dude from the previous day for Rohtang Pass, he was cute. Rohtang pass is part of the Pir Panjal range situated 51 km from Manali. Anyone driving over the pass needs to hold a permit.

Visiting in June, Rohtang was open to visitors with a moderate climate. The narrow roadways, snowcaps, and rocks slipping away makes the trip all the more exciting. A single breakdown ultimately results in a vehicle jam all the way down the foothills of the peak.

So we began around 5:30 in the morning and were quite lucky to not come across any breakdown. A large tank truck did get stuck in soft part of a road ahead but thank god it was resolved quick!

A large vehicle blocking the way means getting stuck on the road, explained the taxi driver. “Getting stuck” can mean anywhere from 4 hours or more than a day on Rohtang Pass. There’s no telling about it.

But was it worth it?

We stopped away from the crowds of skis and mountain bikes at an isolated spot. The valley before us, snow beneath our boots and sliding down the peaks as we climbed it was worth it all at 13,000 ft!

Atal Tunnel and Parottas

Alighting the peak, we stopped for brunch at a series of dhabas. Without breakfast before, we hogged on the hot parottas coming to the table. For a touristy place, the prices were quite affordable like any dhaba I’ve been to. Not to mention, quite delicious too!

The white snowcap perked on the brown-green peak, cold streams running down, in the backdrop added to the brunch view.

Exploring the road as we headed down the other side of the peak, I learned that this was the start point for getting to Spiti Valley upon making it down the curves from Rohtang Pass. The opposite road led to Sissu (Sisu Manali) and Atal tunnel where we headed. Atal tunnel was next.

Atal Tunnel didn’t offer much to see – it’s a tunnel afterall. But we did pass through it, the world’s longest highway tunnel named after our former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

At one end we struggled through curvy paths and congestion up a peak. The other was a smooth 9 km back to the start point. The build structure is something to ponder over.

Our next stop was Zostel in Old Manali, shifting our backpacks here from Vashisht zostel. Zostel in Old Manali is more on an edge through a farmland alley.

There isn’t a road connectivity – at least not for a car. But we couldn’t care less. Entering our dorm rooms, we sank into our beds for a good hour or two.

old manali streets, manali travel blog

For the evening, the walk to Old Manali’s markets as a long one across the Manalsu river (part of Beas later), Clubhouse road, and Manali Nature Park and then the Hadimba Devi Temple. Though the walk’s long, it’s best for the evenings.

Old Manali is where all the popular budget hostels exist. GoStops Manali, Madpackers Hostel , and all other inventive cozy names you can think of for traveler hostels lay here. It reminded a little of Arambol in Goa , a hippie culture.

For booking backpacker hostels in Manali, HostelWorld has a range of options for quite affordable rates. I’ve been using HostelWorld for sometime now and its reliable. Check out HostelWorld Manali accommodations here.

Manali Travel Blog: Mall Road

Our last stop at the end of our walk was the infamous Mall Road down from Old Manali’s accomodations. It’s best to visit this street at night for the best experience.

Being a tourist hotspot, the street is crowded every single night with tourists flocking in for shopping, dining, or simply taking a stroll. There are all sorts of stores here ranging from local handicraft stores, clothing, to electronics.

While the street looked lively and reminded me of Bangalore’s nightlife, it was purely touristy and nothing authentic of the place. Everything was expensive. Even the overpriced momo stalls tasted different than the local ones around Manali – all tuned to the tastes of tourists.

Neither are stall owners friendly here – I guess overtourism had its take on behaviour. A stroll through Mall Road is sweet for a change, watching people and kids with ice creams.

When staying in Old Manali, it’s best to walk here in the evening. Neither cars, nor bikes have enough spaces for parking which got frustrating for us the following day.

Day 3: River Rafting and Maggi

Manali budget trip. Final day was for river rafting. More than rafting in Kullu itself, we spent more time getting there and waiting. I had high hopes for rafting but was disappointed when we weren’t allowed to paddle.

All raft boats here were equipped with large paddles for the main paddler at the back while we only held tight in the front. Rafting in Dandeli months earlier with full control in our hands, this wasn’t all fun.

But touching water as we furthered, I realized how painful a fall could be – it was freezing . Every splash spew cold water piercing our skin while the boat slipped through rocks and gushes.

Under the sun yet shivering was one thing. Later the person at the back let us jump into the waters. I glanced at the others for one second, the next I plunged in. Boy, was it cold!

The raft lasted 30 minutes and we waited a while at the end point along shallow waters and small pebbles, talking with our paddler and a photographer who insisted on taking pictures.

Riding back, we were quite hungry while being hesitant with the budget for Manali trip. We’d spent a great deal rafting and even more on the GoPro pictures on the paddler’s head (they’re always unreasonably overpriced).

river beas rafting, kullu manali

So we stopped at the closest Maggi road stall we found for ‘lunch’. With a few stalls close by – we got pani puri, momos, and Siddu as well. The steaming siddus here again tasted very different from Mall road – and 3 times cheaper!

From Kullu, we thought of visiting the Kullu Naggar castle but I regret we decided not to at the end, it would have been amazing. The other thing to do in Kullu was paragliding, but we had Bir for it anyhow.

Manali travel Blog: Places we missed on

Manali travel blog. Like Kullu Naggar Castle, there were some other places I regret missing on. Museum of Himchal Culture and Folk art, numerous monasteries like the Himalayan Nyinmapa Buddhist monastery. I wish we’d time for Manali local sightseeing away from streets tailormade for tourists.

However, our trip to Manali was satisfactory. Manali changes through the year. Trip to Manali in April gets very different from Manali in December. For example, Solang Valley is ideal to visit in winter (December to February) for skiing.

Nevertheless, I didn’t regret not visiting Solang Valley as no skiing was available in June. Nor was snow in sight here when we passed by after Atal tunnel. For the next visit, considering a nearby village like Sethan, Sissu, or Jibhi rather than Manali is worth looking forward to.

Manali Budget Trip: Overall expense

Including our flight tickets and bus to Manali and Bir Billings was 30k. But to consider only Manali, we could’ve spent lesser on our stay. For safety’s sake, it was however worth the first time.

The semi-sleeper bus from Delhi was a flat Rs. 1400 per seat. With the classy riverside restaurants for dinner, a lot on cab, bike rental and additional expenses on snacks – it wasn’t superbudget friendly.

Including the accommodation (Rs. 800/night approx.), we each spent around Rs. 2500 per day on an average. Note that Rohtang Pass and rafting were expensive trips. For Rohtang Pass, enquire about the jacket rentals before booking because that’s where we got scammed by our driver (the nice guy).

We paid almost Rs. 700 per head at a stall he affiliated for the full-body jacket rental. Most sites I checked later on mention Rs. 250 per set. In overall, be aware of expenses in attraction spots beforehand – they’ll cost a big chunk.

That sums up my Manali travel blog. Hope you have a safe trip :)
