Disney Cruise Line is back to sailing with four ships and a fifth one coming this summer! The ships sail to multiple destinations around the world. While you could go online and book your Disney cruise yourself, using a travel agent is more beneficial to you. Here’s why!

Travel Agents Don’t Cost Extra

Authorized Disney travel agents don’t charge a fee for their services. The commission travel agents make is already included in the price of the cruise. So, the price is the same whether you book it yourself or with a travel agent. Why not use a travel agent and have the extra help for no extra cost?

Disney Cruise Line Knowledge

As an authorized Disney travel agent, I keep up with all of the changes and updates to the Disney Cruise Line. I’ll make sure you’re kept up to date on everything you need to know. Covid-19 policies and procedures, different staterooms, cruise destinations, port adventures, dining times, and so much more!

Disney Cruise Line occasionally has special offers and deals. Your travel agent will make sure you’re aware of the deals so you can save as much money as possible! I’ll also keep an eye out in case an offer is released after you’ve booked your cruise. If the offer applies to your cruise, I can get it applied.

Don’t have time to be online trying to figure everything out? Don’t want to sit on hold if you need to make a change or payment? Your travel agent does that for you! Travel agents want to make sure their clients are happy and taken care of so they will do all the work required to get the cruise booked.

Seasonal/Themed Cruises

Disney Cruise Line offers Halloween and Christmas sailings along with themed cruises. You can enjoy Marvel Day at Sea or Pixar Day at Sea. These special cruises only happen at certain times of the year. If you want to experience one of these sailings, your travel agent will make sure you have all of the information and dates.

If you need transportation from the airport or your resort to the cruise port, your travel agent can help you book that. Want to add pre-paid gratuities to your cruise? Your travel agent can do that! If you’d like to add a pre or post-cruise hotel stay, your travel agent can help with that as well! Your travel agent will also make sure you know when your dates open to book port adventures and other extras you might want to book for your cruise.

Why You Need a Disney Cruise Line Travel Agent: Unlocking the Magic of the High Seas

Embarking on a Disney Cruise Line vacation is a dream come true for families and Disney enthusiasts alike. With its enchanting ships, immersive onboard experiences, and the promise of meeting beloved Disney characters at sea, a Disney cruise promises an unforgettable journey. However, navigating the intricacies of planning a cruise can be overwhelming, especially for first-time cruisers. That's where a specialized Disney Cruise Line travel agent comes in – to unlock the magic of the high seas and ensure you set sail with confidence.

In this blog, we'll explore the invaluable benefits of utilizing a Disney Cruise Line travel agent for your next adventure. From personalized guidance and early booking advantages to exclusive perks and stress-free planning, a travel agent can enhance your Disney cruise experience in ways you never imagined.

1. The Expertise of a Disney Cruise Line Travel Agent:

Planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation requires in-depth knowledge of the fleet, itineraries, and onboard experiences. A Disney Cruise Line travel agent is a certified expert in all things Disney, equipped with insider insights and expertise to craft the perfect cruise experience for your family.

They can assist you in selecting the ideal itinerary based on your interests, desired destination, and travel preferences. From Caribbean cruises to European adventures, a travel agent will guide you through the options and help you choose the best fit for your family's dream vacation.

Moreover, travel agents are familiar with each ship's unique features, stateroom categories, and onboard amenities. They'll provide personalized recommendations to ensure you have a stateroom that meets your needs and budget, whether it's an oceanview cabin with a balcony or a family suite with ample space for everyone to unwind.

2. Early Booking Advantage: Securing Your Dream Cruise

Disney Cruise Line sailings are incredibly popular, and the most sought-after itineraries can sell out quickly. However, by partnering with a Disney Cruise Line travel agent, you gain a significant advantage in securing your dream cruise.

As preferred partners of Disney Cruise Line, travel agents receive early access to promotions, sailings, and special offers. This means you can book your cruise before it opens to the general public, increasing your chances of getting the exact sailing date and stateroom category you desire.

Additionally, travel agents often have access to group inventory and reserved staterooms, ensuring that your entire party can sail together without the fear of availability issues. They'll also keep you informed about any new promotions or discounts that may be released after you've booked your cruise, and if applicable, they'll work diligently to have these promotions applied to your reservation, saving you money and maximizing your vacation value.

3. Stress-Free Vacation Planning: Your Personal Cruise Concierge

Planning a cruise involves a myriad of details, from choosing shore excursions and dining times to arranging transportation and pre-cruise accommodations. A Disney Cruise Line travel agent serves as your personal cruise concierge, handling all the intricacies of vacation planning.

From the moment you express interest in a Disney cruise, your travel agent takes the reins, guiding you through the booking process with ease. They'll assist with completing the necessary paperwork, securing travel insurance, and organizing any pre-cruise accommodations or post-cruise extensions.

Moreover, travel agents stay up-to-date with the latest cruise line policies, health and safety measures, and travel advisories, ensuring you have the most accurate information to make informed decisions about your vacation. If any changes or updates occur before or during your cruise, your travel agent will be there to guide you through any adjustments or rebooking needed.

4. Personalized Onboard Experiences: Making the Most of Your Time at Sea

While Disney Cruise Line offers a vast array of onboard experiences, not every activity or dining reservation will suit every family's preferences. A Disney Cruise Line travel agent will take the time to understand your family's interests and tailor your onboard experience accordingly.

If character meet-and-greets are a top priority, your travel agent will help you secure reservations for character breakfasts, exclusive photo sessions, and autograph opportunities. If you're eager to indulge in specialty dining experiences or attend Broadway-caliber shows, they'll ensure you have the best chances of securing reservations for these coveted experiences.

Travel agents can also advise on the most family-friendly shore excursions and recommend activities that align with your children's ages and interests. Whether it's snorkeling in the Caribbean, exploring historic sites in Europe, or dog sledding in Alaska, your travel agent will help you find the perfect activities to create unforgettable memories for the whole family.

5. Exclusive Perks and Inclusions: Adding Magic to Your Cruise

One of the most delightful advantages of booking through a Disney Cruise Line travel agent is gaining access to exclusive perks and inclusions that elevate your cruise experience. As preferred partners of Disney Cruise Line, travel agencies often offer additional incentives and amenities to enhance your vacation.

From onboard credits and complimentary gifts to special events and private shore excursions, these exclusive perks are a thank-you for entrusting your cruise plans to the agency. Some agencies even organize group sailings with exclusive experiences, such as private meet-and-greets with Disney characters or behind-the-scenes tours of the ship's operations.

Additionally, travel agents keep a watchful eye on promotions and discounts, ensuring you receive the best value for your vacation. They'll proactively monitor your reservation and apply any applicable promotions, saving you money and allowing you to allocate your budget for other magical experiences.

6. Dedicated Support: From Booking to Embarkation

Perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of working with a Disney Cruise Line travel agent is the dedicated support you receive throughout your entire journey. From the moment you book your cruise to the day you set sail and beyond, your travel agent is there to answer questions, address concerns, and provide reassurance.

If you encounter any challenges or changes before your cruise, your travel agent will serve as your advocate, liaising with Disney Cruise Line on your behalf to find solutions. Whether it's updating your dining preferences, modifying shore excursions, or making adjustments to your stateroom, your travel agent will handle the logistics, leaving you free to focus on the excitement of your upcoming adventure.

During your cruise, your travel agent remains accessible, providing you with contact information and available to assist with any onboard questions or needs. Their personalized service ensures that your vacation is as smooth and stress-free as possible, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the magic of Disney.

Booking a Disney Cruise Line vacation with a travel agent unlocks a world of benefits, from expert guidance and personalized planning to early booking advantages and exclusive perks. A travel agent's expertise and dedication make all the difference, ensuring that your family's dream cruise becomes a reality.

Whether it's securing the perfect itinerary, recommending onboard experiences, or providing support throughout your journey, a Disney Cruise Line travel agent is your key to unlocking the magic of the high seas. Sail with confidence, knowing that every detail of your vacation is in the hands of a knowledgeable professional who shares your passion for all things Disney.

So, set sail with your Disney Cruise Line travel agent by your side, and get ready for a journey filled with wonder, excitement, and cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Bon voyage to a magical cruise adventure like no other!

How to Become a Disney Travel Agent

How to Become a Disney Travel Agent Advisor Cruise Line

Photo: Disney Parks

Between its global resorts, its tour wing Adventures by Disney, and its growing cruise line, there is a lot for Disney fans to experience when it comes to choosing their vacations, and a lot for Disney travel agents to market and sell to their clients. It's also one of the most common niches among advisors looking for something they can specialize in .

Jodi Bainter, the director of travel agency sales at The Walt Disney Company, spoke to TMR during a media preview for Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, Disney Wish , earlier this month about what Disney does to support its agent partners.

“Travel advisors play a critical role for us and they will continue to do so in the future,” Bainter said. “In fact, their care and planning for our guests long before the pandemic, through it, and now into the future is incredibly valuable for us.”

“We will never underestimate the value of the travel trade,” she added. “They’re the hardest working team in the business and they deliver amazing results for our Disney destinations. We continue to look for long-term partnerships with them.”

For those new to selling Disney vacations, here is where to start:

Disney’s Travel Agent Portal According to Bainter, the most successful Disney travel advisors not only know the product but take full advantage of the resources that Disney provides to its travel partners.

“The most important thing, I believe, is giving advisors all the tools and training they need in order to be their best and grow their business,” she said.

That starts at DisneyTravelAgents.com, the main portal for those selling all kinds of Disney vacations, from Walt Disney World Resort to Disneyland Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, and more. That includes guides on how to book components of each vacation, from theme park tickets to cruise line sailings.

It’s also the place to connect to Disney’s business development managers, which Bainter called “one of the most valuable resources.”

Disney’s College of Knowledge Inside that travel advisor portal is also Disney’s College of Knowledge, a five-part, fully interactive course that prepares advisors both new and old on what Disney can offer to its guests.

The courses cover Aulani Resort, Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland Resort, and Walt Disney World Resort. Each one should take about an hour to complete, with the Walt Disney World Resort course being the longest at 75 minutes total.

Each course includes segmented lessons that catch advisors up on all the latest product offerings. The Disney Cruise Line one, for instance, includes an overview of its ships, staterooms, activities, dining, Castaway Cay, and itineraries.

Each course also includes short quizzes to test your knowledge as you progress along.

The idea is to fully prepare advisors with the product knowledge they need prior to talking to their clients about a potential Disney booking.

“The better that we can prepare them, it helps their credibility with their guests, and we always want to set them up for success,” Bainter added.

Disney’s Marketing Materials The travel agent portal is also the place for marketing tools advisors can use with their clients. There, agents are able to build mini-sites featuring their own call-to-action and travel agency logo, send e-brochures to clients, and grab marketing materials for their own emails.

According to Bainter, one channel, in particular, is increasingly becoming the go-to source for the best Disney travel agents—according to Bainter, she and her team have seen social media “change the landscape of how travel agents promote their services.”

“We’ve leaned into that with Disney Professionals on our social platforms,” she said, adding that Disney is actively putting content on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube that advisors can use to engage with their clients.

“I really think that is where the change is happening. They’re reaching greater audiences and they do a really good job at talking about all Disney destinations.”

FAMs and Discounts Advisors who get fully qualified through Disney’s College of Knowledge, and also have a valid IATA, CLIA, or ACTA card, then get the opportunity to use some special travel agent rates for all of Disney’s product offerings.

There are some blackout dates for some of the busiest periods, and some other terms and conditions, but ultimately, completing the training courses will allow advisors to get a discount on their Disney vacations so they will be able to experience what they are selling first-hand.

For Disney Cruise Line, which is in the middle of one of the largest expansions in its history, Bainter added that the line will be resuming ship tours so advisors can see the product first-hand.

“We’ll start with the Wish,” Bainter told TMR. “That’s a big deal—we know it is super important for agents to be prepared to be able to talk about the product.”

Why Use A Travel Agent To Book A Disney Cruise

disney cruise line travel agent ship tours

Your vacation should be everything you want it to be – relaxing, adventurous, a chance to unplug. But the one thing it shouldn’t be is stressful. So many questions. Endless information. The possibilities are endless. So, where do you begin?

My number one tip for first time Disney Cruisers (outside of joining our Community for free ) is to work with a Disney Travel Agent.

Now you might be thinking that you have planned many vacations for your family, your friends, and maybe even your job in the past so why bother having an agent this time around when you’re more than capable? Then we’re two peas in a pod! I thought the same thing for years. Sure, you could book directly through Disney all on your own or through a third-party, but what I’ve learned in all my years of cruising with Disney (started in 1999) is that you’re leaving a lot of value on the table.

If you’re wondering why this is my number one tip for Disney Cruisers, you’re in the right place!

Why Use A Disney Travel Agent? The perks!

While all the information in this blog is amazing (I’m obviously biased), let’s get to the big reasons that more and more people every year choose to book their Disney Cruise through a Travel Agent instead of through a third-party or directly.

First, it’s free ! Disney pays your Travel Agent. So for $0 additional, you can have an expert on-hand for any and all questions, to help you through the planning process, and offer customized recommendations. Talk about value!

Second, not all agents, but some will offer incentives like onboard credit . If you’re looking for ways to save on a Disney Cruise, onboard credit is one way to do that. One of the best ways to save money on your Disney Cruise is to book another one while you’re onboard and then transfer the reservation within 30 days to your Travel Agent.

Pro tip : you cannot have paid in full to transfer to a TA (Travel Agent). This way, you’ll get 10% off your placeholder plus the potential onboard credit.

Insider tip : while onboard credit is wonderful, this typically comes from the agent’s own pocket giving you a portion of their hard-earned commission. It’s a great surprise when it’s offered, but don’t always expect it.

Reminder: your agent costs you $0 so you’re already getting expert services that save you time for free. Anything additional should be considered a bonus, not mandatory.

Next, some agents can offer special perks like group booking discounts, complimentary meals or packages, credits, access to unpublished rates or specialty excursions, and some can even negotiate lower deposits or flexible terms on pricing.

One thing we learned is that Disney’s insurance, while good, is not always the best option for your party. Depending on a variety of factors, your agent can help determine which travel insurance will be suit your family’s needs vs the standard option. What if you need to cancel for any reason? What if any emergency happens? Your agency or individual agent does all the heavy lifting in researching to ensure you feel nothing but ease throughout the planning process.

Finally, you cannot put a price tag on having a Disney Cruise Line expert that you can call, text, email, or even Facebook message any day for any reason.

Over the years, we have become great friends with our agent. Our Recommended Travel Agents have even told us that they miss their guests (you!) after they sail and can’t wait to plan their next vacation because of the bonds created during the planning process. We become like family. You have a dedicated resource that knows you, your budget, your family, and your priorities and can help you plan the best Disney Cruise vacation ever .

Why Use A Disney Travel Agent? This is your first Disney Cruise.

If you’re planning your very first Disney Cruise (which by the way, I am so excited for you!) then having a Travel Agent would definitely be something I recommend.

Why should you get a Travel Agent for your first Disney Cruise? As with anything new in life, I’m sure you’re filled with excitement and probably feeling the pressure to plan the best vacation possible for your party. You decided to cruise with Disney, but with so many ships, ports of call, lengths of itineraries, themes, etc.

I can only imagine you’re thinking, “ Where do I even begin? ”. This is where a Travel Agent comes in to save the day, similar to The Incredibles. Yes, you might have gone to Walt Disney World or Disneyland countless times or perhaps even cruised with other cruise lines, but having a Disney Cruise specific resource in your pocket to help be a partner in your planning is priceless. They’ll be able to offer recommendations based specifically on your goals, party, and budget.

Working with a Certified Disney Vacation Planner takes a ton of pressure off of you in having a knowledgeable, experienced person to guide you in planning a vacation filled with memories. This is your vacation too, so working with a Travel Agent to remove some of the pressure to know and plan everything will allow you to enjoy the process.

Personally, I am a super planner. I love to have everything planned out, but it’s hard to do so when it’s your first time onboard. Sure, you can read up online and ask around, but there’s tremendous value in having an expert in all things Disney Cruise Line ready to help guide you and answer all your questions. And speaking of questions…

Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? You ask a lot of questions.

Which Disney ship is the best? What’s the best time of year to sail? What excursion should I do on Castaway Cay? Which ship has Frozen characters? What hotel do I stay at before? Can I rent a car? Where do we park it? When can I check in? Is 3 years old too young to bring onboard? Will my teenager have enough to do? Is there anything for adults only?

The questions you can ask when planning a Disney Cruise are endless and can make the process overwhelming to say the least. That is exactly where a Disney Travel Agent can be a lifesaver.

Some agencies who specialize in general travel (or even some big box stores that we will talk about later) are not going to be experts in Disney Cruise Line.

There is a tremendous amount of value that comes from working with someone who has sailed on the ships , knows cast members, and has a resume lined with making family’s dreams come true onboard.

If you ask a lot of questions because you want every detail of your vacation to be as perfect as possible , then choosing to work with an Authorized Disney Travel Agent will give you constant access to someone who knows everything about your vacation options and what you want from your vacation. This allows them to answer all your questions in a way that is personalized to you instead of getting generic responses.

Why Use a Disney Travel Agent if I enjoy planning my own vacations?

That’s wonderful! The best Disney Cruise Line Travel Agents love working with those who want a turnkey, hands-off planning experience just as much as someone who comes to the conversation completely prepared.

You might know exactly what you want, but a DCL Travel Agent still has tremendous value they can offer. Top Disney Travel Agents can act as partners in your planning process . They can provide you with instructions, timelines, deadlines, itineraries, and recommendations based on their personal and professional experiences.

As much as you want to do everything, you might not want to wake up at midnight when your booking window opens or wait on hold for hours to make one update to your reservation. Your Disney Travel Agent can take care of any details you want to delegate while helping make sure no detail is overlooked.

As a super planner myself, I totally understand the anxiety that can come with “giving up control”. It took us years to consider working with an agent and then even more to convert, but we won’t go back. A great Disney Cruise Line Travel Agent is worth their weight in gold! Yes, they can save you time and money in instances; however, my favorite part about using a Disney Travel Agent is that, as the person planning the vacation, I don’t have to do absolutely everything. They take some of the stress away , and that is priceless.

Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? They do the work for you.

Let’s be honest – the internet is both wonderful and exhausting. Once you start down the rabbit hole of research, you might as well be in Wonderland. Information can be outdated and flat out incorrect which is where a Travel Agent can save the day.

Especially with international travel, insurance, testing requirements, and protocol changes, there’s so much to keep track of before your Disney Cruise Line vacation. You might be extremely organized, but keeping track of all the moving elements could be a full-time job all on its own.

A DCL Travel Agent is a great person to have in your corner to double check everything before you leave your house . Because let me tell you – we have seen people in our Community at the Port who forgot something and cannot board. Talk about heart-breaking!

As we mentioned above, you can absolutely take the lead when planning your family’s perfect Disney Cruise. If that’s what you prefer then think of a Disney Cruise Travel Agent like your sidekick . A Travel Agent can be Woody to you Buzz Lightyear, Piglet to your Winnie the Pooh, Roy to your Walt!

If you’re someone who truly wants everything to be planned for you, then a Disney Cruise Line Travel Agent is going to be the best gift you can give yourself . They will do all the research on itineraries , the ship’s features, and recommend anything from hotels to flights to onboard additions like Adult Dining and Character Meet and Greets. They will read the fine print for you, keep you organized, and make the planning process seamless.

A Disney Cruise Travel Agent will take care of just about everything for you almost like your very own Fairy Godmother.

Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? You want a personalized vacation experience on your Disney Cruise

My favorite part of a Disney Cruise, and cruising in general, is that your vacation is exactly what you make it. My perfect Disney Cruise and yours might be completely different experiences even though we’re on the same ship visiting the same places at the same time.

While I enjoy completely disconnecting and relaxing onboard, you might want to take advantage of the activities and excursions . I love the Adult Only Restaurants, but you might love the magic found in the Main Dining Rooms more.

What you’re reading online might be perfect for someone else, but this is where booking through a Disney Travel Agent vs online provides immense value.

Disney Cruise Travel Agents can make personalized recommendations for you and your family. Adventure? Relaxation? Little ones? Someone with a disability? Adult only? Just here for a good time? They’ll provide thoughtful and customized recommendations to maximize your time cruising with Disney.

Sure, you could call Disney Cruise Line on your own and ask questions or perhaps even use Costco, BJ’s, Expedia, or the like; but you will get a different staff member each time who only knows as much as your reservation number tells them. They don’t know you, your family, your party, your priorities, etc.

Just a side note – we get asked all the time about booking through Costco, BJ’s, etc. While those are amazing stores that we happen to have memberships to, their specialty is bulk products. We have even used Costco to book our Disney Cruises in the past.

With the financial incentives, I totally understand wanting to book a Disney Cruise through Costco. The issue is that everything has to go through Costco or BJ’s, etc. So if you have a question, need to make a change, or if something goes wrong, you call their Travel Center who then still has to call Disney.

Plus, they aren’t experts on Disney Cruises. I like having the most recent information which our Travel Agent always provides because our Agent has inside connections, industry knowledge, and has been on all the Disney Cruise ships.

Booking through Costco and other bulk retailers or travel sites has value, absolutely; but personally for us, the one-on-one, dedicated attention and recommendations plus the time saved was enough to make us switch.

Last thing here is that Disney Travel Agents get to know you and your family . They’re all about relationships! They’ll remember that last time that your son had the time of his life parasailing or that your daughter still talks about her trip to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique over a year later.

You expect Disney quality service when you’re onboard creating connections, so why wouldn’t you want that magic throughout your planning process as well?

Let’s be frank here – it’s in your Travel Agent’s best interest to help you plan the best vacation ever. They’re invested in your vacation’s success and want you to come back for countless future vacations. Your DCL Travel Agent will know what you can’t miss and what you can save for your next time onboard. Working with a Disney Cruise Travel Agent allows you to plan the vacation of our dreams specifically for your family. No cookie-cutter vacations here!

Why Use a Disney Travel Agent? They’re the experts. It’s literally their job!

Popular Cruise Lines

Cruise styles.

Disney Cruise Line is known for providing magical experiences to families of all ages. From onboard entertainment to exciting ports of call, a Disney cruise offers something for everyone. As a Disney Cruise Travel Agent, Culture Discovery Cruises is dedicated to helping guests plan the perfect vacation. In this article, we’ll answer some common questions about Disney cruises and provide tips for making the most out of your experience.

What are the 5 Disney Cruises?

Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of itineraries to destinations all over the world. The five Disney cruises are :

  • Disney Magic
  • Disney Wonder
  • Disney Dream
  • Disney Fantasy
  • Disney Wish (2022)

Each ship has its own unique features and experiences, but all offer the same high level of Disney magic and service.

What is the average cost of a Disney cruise?

The cost of a Disney cruise varies depending on the length of the cruise, the time of year, and the type of stateroom you choose. On average, a Disney cruise can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 per person. However, there are often promotions and discounts available, especially for guests who book through a Disney Cruise Travel Agent.

How much is a Disney cruise for a family of 4?

The cost of a Disney cruise for a family of 4 will depend on the factors mentioned above. However, Disney Cruise Line does offer staterooms that can accommodate families of 4 or more, making it a great option for families with children. By booking through a Disney Cruise Travel Agent like us, guests can often find the best deals and promotions to help keep costs down.

What is the best type of Disney cruise?

The best type of Disney cruise depends on your interests and preferences. Each ship has its own unique features and experiences, and the itineraries vary based on the time of year and destination. However, Disney Cruise Line is known for its exceptional service and attention to detail, ensuring that every guest has an unforgettable experience.

What other passengers will be on a Disney cruise?

Disney Cruise Line attracts families with children of all ages, but there are also adult-only areas and activities on board. In addition, Disney offers special events and experiences for guests of all ages, including character meet and greets, Broadway-style shows, holiday cruises, and themed dining experiences.

Do you need a passport for a Disney cruise?

While a passport is not required for all Disney cruises, it is highly recommended. This is especially true for cruises that travel to destinations outside of the United States. A passport is the easiest and most secure form of identification, and it will also allow for smoother re-entry into the United States.  That said, for cruises that go to the Bahamas and most Caribbean Islands, an original copy of a birth certificate and State ID is often enough.

What is the best age to take a Disney cruise?

Disney cruises are designed to appeal to guests of all ages, from infants to seniors. However, families with young children may find the most enjoyment on a Disney cruise, as there are many activities and experiences specifically geared toward them. That being said, older children, teenagers, and adults will also find plenty of entertainment and excitement on board.

Disney cruise is a one-of-a-kind experience that offers something for everyone. As a Disney Cruise Travel Agent, Culture Discovery Cruises can help you plan the perfect vacation, from selecting the best ship and itinerary to finding the best deals and promotions. Experience the Magic of Disney Cruise Line Ships

Activities for adults & kids.

Let’s start with the kids. From toddlers to teens, each has wondrous spaces dedicated to them, with oceans of activities, amazing entertainment and immersive Disney experiences. And here’s what Mom and Dad will especially love—Disney Cruise Line kids’ programs feature some of the longest hours at sea so you can enjoy some “we” time or some “me” time, knowing the kids are having a blast.

And that time could include art tours, cooking seminars, a workout in the fitness center, lounging at the adult-exclusive pool area and delightful evenings out at the adult-only entertainment district. Why not try them all?

Top-Class Service & Amenities

When the family comes together, it’s world-class Disney entertainment at every turn. And the magical details you’d expect from the cruise line that knows families best. Broadway-caliber shows, fireworks at sea, first-run films up on deck and in the theater and a dazzling variety of unique dining experiences, where you’re always tended to by the same amazing waitstaff. No, these aren’t extras. They’re what you should expect.

And while you should expect big things from Disney magic, you’ll also find that same kind of magic in every detail great and small. From Disney character appearances throughout the ship to spacious staterooms designed with families in mind. From 24-hour room service to soda, coffee and tea service at meals and up on deck, all complimentary. Disney Cruise Line even provides on-board phones during your voyage, so everyone can stay in touch. Just a few of the small details sure to leave a big impression.

Castaway Cay

Guests aboard most Bahamian and Caribbean Disney Cruise Line voyages are really in for a treat—an all-day stop at Disney’s private island paradise, Disney Castaway Cay.

Just imagine, an entire island wrapped in turquoise waters and white-sand beaches—and filled with watery wonders like Pelican Plunge, a huge floating deck with adventures for everyone. Savor an all-you-care-to-enjoy barbecue. Let the kids explore an expansive children’s area supervised by Disney Youth Counselors, while you bask on the shores of an adult-only beach.

Best of all, the ship docks right at Disney Castaway Cay so you can come and go as you please throughout the day.

Top Disney Travel Tips

There are a number of things travelers can do to prepare for a great Disney adventure. See below for some of our top travel tips:

  • Plan and Book Early: Disney resorts and popular dining experiences can book up quickly, so plan and make reservations as early as possible.
  • Use the Disney FastPass System (Genie+) : Take advantage of Disney's FastPass system to skip long lines for popular attractions. Plan your FastPasses in advance for the best experience.
  • Download the My Disney Experience App : The app provides real-time information on wait times, show schedules, dining options, and interactive maps of the parks.
  • Arrive Early: Beat the crowds by arriving at the park early. You can enjoy popular attractions with shorter wait times in the morning.
  • Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks: Make sure to stay hydrated. Take breaks to rest and recharge throughout the day. You may also want to plan a "rest day" if your trip is more than 3-4 days. (Pro tip: Most kiosks will give you ice water for free!)
  • Be Realistic: You might want to do everything to make the most of the experience. Often, it's better to carefully choose a select number of attractions and things to do and focus on the moment instead of a stringent timeline.
  • Advanced Dining: Most restaurants require you to book dining weeks (if not months) in advance. Set calendar reminders and make sure to reserve your spot or ask your agent for recommendations.
  • Be Smart and Save: One pro tip is to eat in your room or bring snacks and drinks to the parks. This will save you tons of money on restaurants and wait times.
  • Practical Traveling: It's important to make sure your credit card(s) won't expire before or during your trip. The same appliies to other forms of identification.
  • Pack Light: Worrying about too many outfit changes, dealing with multiple bags, and the chance you could actually lose a bag can be stressful and distracting. Pack light and expect to bring home more than what you came with.

We can help you find ways to make your trip not only magical, but financially practical. This includes dining plans, discounts, flights, and other amenities that can save you hundreds (if not thousands) per visit. If you have any questions, our agents at Me and The Mouse Travel are here to help.

Clients say:

This is the second time we booked everything with Amy and WOW! She nailed it from start to finish. I cannot express how easy she makes the process. She knows it all, from the parks to the resorts and even character dining and other "things to do" We talked about everything from which attractions to visit first, down to the best place to get a stroller for our 4-year-old. She thought of EVERYTHING-was available any time I had a question and the care package we received was a magical "it's almost time" gift for my kids. Amy made our trip a breeze and I cannot say enough great things about her and the work she does. We WILL be returning again soon and we WILL be booking our trip with Amy! <3

Elizabeth, we want to thank you so much for planning such an amazing family vacation. Every detail was taken care of which allowed us to just relax and enjoy our time together as a family. We had so much fun that we are already talking about our next trip. All the tips and suggestions you had were spot on and the trip couldn’t have gone smoother. We will definitely be using Me and the Mouse again!

No stress, planning, or worry for us. She had a million tips and suggestions to make our vacation magical. Thank you Tressa for planning our perfect trip!

Andrea Perry

We used Amy for our family vacation, we booked it just a couple of weeks before our trip as a last minute surprise for our family and she was able to get so many reservations that I thought would be impossible! She was so quick to answer any questions, offer great advice and the help with fast passes/dinner reservations, etc was AMAZING! Made our vacation so easy and effortless and we had so much fun! We will definitely use her again and again!!

Should you use a Travel Agent

disney cruise line travel agent ship tours

Mark is highly regarded as one of the best cruise specialists who assists with Disney Cruises. He is a retired Naval Officer and has over 10 years of experience planning cruise vacations for thousands of families. He offers a very competitive onboard credit for new bookings and a somewhat reduced onboard credit for placeholders and transfers. If you are looking for personalized service or just have a question, please reach out to him.

So… Should you use a travel agent? That is a personal preference.  When you book directly with the cruise line, they have THEIR best interest in mind. When you book with a qualified agent, they have YOUR best interest in mind.  If you choose to use a Travel Agent, find one who specializes in cruises, not someone who books a cruise now and then. They should be familiar with the intricacies of the cruise line. Once they get to know you, they will be able to steer you to a cruise that is right for you. Some people mistakenly believe that they can get a lower fare by booking directly with the cruise line, because the Travel Agent earns a commission. This is NOT true. If the price of a three-day cruise to the Bahamas is $2,500, the cruise line will NOT reduce the price just because they are not paying a Travel Agent commission. They will still charge you the full amount and pocket the difference. In effect, the cruise line pays the commission, you do not. Travel Agents who specialize in cruises book A LOT of cruises. One thing to keep in mind however is that once you hand over your reservation to a TA all communications and changes will be done by the agent.  Some see this as a negative, but honestly, you now have a single point of contact for all your cruising questions who is an advocate for your family.

There’s definitely something to be said for the convenience of a Travel Agent and they should add value to your vacation planning. You can spend hours online scavenging for the best price, even if you know where to look, but the time involved and frustration could in itself be costly. Not to mention that an experienced travel agent can give you valuable inside knowledge that will greatly enhance your trip.

Cruises are big-ticket items, and if you don’t plan correctly, you could risk not getting the vacation you’ve paid for, particularly if you are a first-time cruiser. Many Agents often specialize in particular cruise lines. They can direct you to the cruise that’s right for you, whether you’re looking for a budget line like Carnival or a family cruise like Disney.  They can also can assist in selecting a cabin. After all, you don’t want to get stuck in the smallest inside cabin next to noisy theatre or crew space. Additionally, they can help you with dinner seating arrangements, shore excursions, and dress-code information. Many agents also swing perks like a shipboard credit.

In case you wanted to know.. 89% of repeat cruisers use a travel agent according to the Cruise Line International Association. 40% of first time cruisers do…

Travel agent perks?

Cool Cruiser

I know CC does not allow us to request TA recommendations.  But I do have a question.  I know other TA's (for NCL, Celebrity, etc.) offer perks for booking (ie. OBC, prepaid gratuities, etc.). Do any TA's that book for Disney offer that?

I usually book our NCL cruises through their Casinos At Sea, so I don't have a cruise TA.

TIA!  Our family of 17 is excited to book our first Disney Cruise for April, 2024

Sure. Just call a few and see what they can do for you.

We are seasoned cruisers but, new to Disney. We are looking to book a multi family cruise with Disney.

I sent possible booking to our usual cruise TA. He offered OBC of approx. 7% of cruise fare . NCF is port fees and taxes.

I then looked into Big Box travel offering. No OBC but, dollar amount sent upon completion of cruise.

Ended up booking directly with DCL. Only two cabins left in category we wanted. Decided to book and get cabins locked in.  I now have 30 days to transfer booking to TA, and receive additional perks.

Be aware some TAs don't offer the same level of perks on a transferred reservation vs booking through them directly.

Thanks

generally there are 2 kinds of perks that are possible with a TA

1. is if the agency the TA works for has negotiated 'group pricing' or specials which could be for a specific cruise or cruise line and usually are only good for certain time periods or till they sell out.    some times they may have some perks that they always offer on all cruises (usually OBC)

2. is agent specific perks - this could really be anything (OBC, special dinning, wine, et all) ultimately a portion of this comes from the agents commission and is often split with the company they work for.

At least that is my experience after 25+ years cruising and 3 years where I supplemented my income working as a cruise agent for a travel agency specializing in cruises.

Our TA gives a generous % of the cruise fare as a rebate.

nolatravelgirl

If you are in the US I would highly recommend using Costco. We got about 10% of our cruise fare back in the form of Costco gift cards and it also counted as spend on our executive membership which is an additional 2% back. Well worth my exec membership fee. I am a fan of using a TA usually but for Disney cruise it was a no brainer to bank the cash.

Is it better to book a cruise through a travel agent? We say yes

Fran Golden

Going online to book an airline ticket or hotel stay is a familiar and fairly easy transaction. When you book a cruise, however — particularly your first cruise — you might want to reconsider the impulse to handle the transaction yourself through a cruise line website or an online advertiser with cheap prices. This DIY approach might not be the best way to find your dream vacation at sea.

In reality, it's not that simple to book a cruise. You will likely run into a lot of questions to which you have no ready answer.

That's where specialized cruise travel agents come into play. Their expertise can help you avoid mistakes, whether you are a first-timer or a repeat cruiser checking out a brand you have not tried before.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Why you should book through a cruise travel agent

You should consider booking a cruise through a travel agent because a knowledgeable agent can help you understand the nuances of a cruise purchase and help you make the best decisions for your vacation preferences.

When you book a cruise, you are making a vacation decision that goes way beyond a flight or hotel nights. Which ship you choose determines your dining and evening entertainment choices for the duration of your vacation. Which itinerary you choose impacts which destinations you'll visit and which shoreside activities will be available to you. It can be overwhelming to evaluate the options on your own if you've never cruised before.

disney cruise line travel agent ship tours

In addition, cruise fares can be hard to understand and compare. You might, for instance, see a fare listed online without the port charges, taxes and fees, which you only see after you give your personal details.

Plus, the price of your cruise includes accommodations, meals, entertainment and activities — and in some cases drinks, tips, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and other extras. There's a lot bundled into some fares and not as much with others. A travel agent can help you determine what your cruise fare gets you. The cheapest base cruise fare does not always provide the best value or best overall vacation deal.

Related: 4 scenarios when you should use a travel agent

You aren't just booking general passage on a ship, either, as you will be asked to pick a specific cabin and when you prefer to dine. Making a mistake in these categories can ruin your cruise experience, as there are such thing as "bad" cabins and dining times (think noisy or claustrophobic cabins, dinner at 8 p.m. with cranky children, etc.).

With cruises, you typically don't pay for your whole vacation upfront but rather put down a deposit, with final payment due at a later date. A cruise travel agent can ensure you don't miss any due dates.

Remember, you might be a DIY type when booking airlines and hotels, but booking a cruise is more complex. If you enjoy doing your own research, focus on what to do and see in the ports of call. Read about different ships, cruise lines and itineraries. However, when it comes to booking the cruise, we recommend you still contact a travel agent who specializes in cruises to help you learn a few tips and avoid any rookie mistakes.

Travel agents can get better deals on cruises

If you're concerned that working with an agent will make your cruise more expensive, don't be. Cruise travel agents receive the bulk of their income via commission from the cruise lines. Their service to you is usually free, though some might charge first-time clients a minimal fee. It's worth it.

In addition to sharing their expertise, the agent may have negotiated group space at lower rates with the cruise line, which could save you money on the cruise fare. The agent might also have first access to sale prices because the cruise lines notify their agent partners and loyalty club members first before they announce a sale to the public.

Some cruise travel agents even throw in booking perks , such as a complimentary bottle of Champagne, awaiting your arrival in your cabin.

How to find a travel agent for a cruise

Cruise lines prefer that you use a travel agent rather than going online and booking directly. They have small in-house reservation teams, and when you have a question while making a booking, good luck in getting an expert on the phone in a timely manner.

Companies such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line provide online directories to help you find an experienced cruise travel agent near you.

You can also find experienced and certified cruise travel agents through CLIA, the Cruise Lines International Association , which is the industry's main marketing group. Asking friends who have cruised to recommend a travel agent is another good idea.

Related: 5 unexpected places that sell cruises

You might get more personalized care from smaller agencies than from the huge online agencies, though websites such as icruise.com, Cruise.com and Cruise411.com also have experienced cruise agents. These larger online travel agencies can be a good option for those who prefer to make decisions and ask questions via chat. Just make sure you get the name and phone number of the representative for any follow-up questions.

Questions to ask a cruise travel agent

In choosing a cruise travel agent, you will want to tap into the person's specific expertise about the cruise line and ship you are considering. Anyone can read a ship deck plan outlining ship spaces (which you can find online), but you are looking for people who really know their stuff.

Look for travel agencies that are cruise-only or a home-based agent who specializes in cruises. If you are using a full-service travel agency, ask for the cruise desk.

Here are some questions to ask a travel agent to determine their expertise:

  • How often do you cruise?
  • Have you cruised on the line I am considering?
  • Have you cruised on the ship that I am considering, or do you have clients who have cruised that ship and provided a review of their vacation?
  • Do you have firsthand knowledge about the cruise destination? The itinerary?

You will also want to ask the travel agent if they have a preferred relationship or negotiated agreement with any specific lines that could lead to special perks for you.

Be aware that not all agents work with all cruise lines; some represent only a few preferred suppliers or specialize in higher-end cruises. They get bigger commissions from their preferred lines.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware if the agent seems to be putting you off the line you were originally considering, as this could be the reason. On the plus side, an agent who is a preferred supplier might have negotiated rates with the cruise line and be able to call in favors, such as that bottle of Champagne or a cabin upgrade .

disney cruise line travel agent ship tours

You should also ask if the travel agency offers 24/7 assistance (usually an 800 number) in case you have last-minute questions or something goes wrong before or during your trip.

The cruise travel agent should have questions for you as well, to better understand your dream vacation desires. If you are calling a cruise agency for the first time, the agent should be interviewing you as much as you are interviewing him or her. The agent should be focused on helping you choose the cruise line , ship and cabin that is right for you. Making the correct choices is very important to your overall cruise experience.

Bottom line

Booking a cruise is a complex enterprise. A cruise travel agent will guide you through choosing your cabin and dining times, deposits and final payment, and options for shore excursions and specialty dining. If you need to cancel the trip, the agent will also help you through the refund process. You'll have a lot less stress before and during your vacation if you book with an experienced agent.

Earning My Ears

Hi, I have worked with small world vacations and found them not very good. All in all, in the past 2 cruises with them, different agents were not available when I needed them, gave incorrect information to me, reported incorrect passport information to Disney and refused to get me money back when a disney rate dropped. Told me it wasn't possible and I ultimately went ahead and contacted disney directly and got it done. Using them ended up being alot of extra work for me. What travel agency do you use? Do you know of any that have more onboard credits being offered than another? Thank you!

We have used Magical Journeys Travel for many years now for both WDW and Disney Cruise vacations. Their onboard credit is a little less then dreams unlimited Tavel but found Magical Journeys more attentive then Dreams. Tried a few times a couple of years ago with dreams to book WDW trips and Cruises before but they never returned our emails or was terribly slow with their communication with us (Weeks before returning emails).

Highly recommend www.DreamsUnlimitedTravel.com They are the sponsors of the DIS Boards and I like to give them my business as a show of support. They provide an excellent OBC and great service.

That’s really disappointing to hear. I’ve used Small World for 15 years and have been quite pleased with their services and reliability.

I will say this. Dreams will factor in the taxes and such in when determining your OBC. Haven't found another yet that will do that.

Dreams Unlimited for us. I plan all my WDW trips myself but I like to have a TA for DCL .

We use Costco, which offers a Costco Shop Card for a whopping 8.5% of the base cruise cost instead of onboard credit. You have to spend the shop card at Costco, and since we're not regular shoppers there, we tend to spend it on gasoline at their pump, or electronics. Since we're executive members, we also get an additional 2% back at the end of our member year. When you add this to the 10% onboard booking discount, it's like getting 20% off the cruise. Worth it for us. One nice thing about Costco Travel is that you aren't limited to a single agent, so you can call them up at any time you want and talk to someone right away. Their call center is always open when DCL 's call center is open. It can add to call waiting time, though, as you have to call them (& wait on hold to talk to them), then they call DCL while you're on the phone (& you have to wait for that). I've heard waits are bad when new itineraries are released, but have never booked via phone with them on a release day myself. If you ever plan to use them and don't have a placeholder, I recommend just booking online via the DCL website, then transferring the booking (within 30 days) to Costco, as the savings are exactly the same whether you initially book through them or transfer the booking to Costco.

Can anyone share roughly what kind of OBC you get with DU, and do they book other cruise lines? I'm thinking of using them the next time I book.

Per the chart for DU, we would earn $200 per cabin if booking thru their agency. We booked with Costco. We are getting $330 in Costco rewards per cabin. Plus 2% back for being an executive costco member. So, a total of $740 back from Costco vs $400 from DU. Almost double back from Costco. We also get 3% back for using the Costco visa to pay, so another $261 back. $1000 back from Costco on this cruise. Pretty good rewards when you add it all up. We also booked onboard, so disney gave us 10% off the cruise fare and $200 per cabin in onboard credit Click to expand...

FigmentSpark said: Costco does have a great cashback reward for members. However, if you're not a member (which costs $60 for basic and $120 for that executive membership), then you have to add in the cost of getting a membership to get the rewards. Also, if you are a person who really just needs a TA that will take care of your booking, and you want someone to talk you through your decisions, because you may be new to sailing (or resorts or whatever you are booking) and you like a person who knows who you are and what your family needs are, then Costco is not for you. Email them at [email protected] and they will send you the transfer form. You must have booked the cruise within the last 30 days to transfer it.

You can also call Costco travel and they will email the form. You just fill it out with your cruise info, email it back and the cruise is transferred to Costco travel. Has to be done within 30 days of booking. Very easy process.

Disney Cruise Line reveals new 'Heroes and Villains' themed cruise ship coming in 2025

disney cruise line travel agent ship tours

Disney Cruise Line will add another new ship in 2025.

The line will take delivery of the Disney Destiny next year, the brand announced Wednesday.

The vessel will have a “Heroes and Villains” design theme, with the cruise line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams drawing inspiration from “the dynamic duality of every great Disney story, where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose,” according to a news release .

Onboard experiences will feature characters from stories such as “Hercules, “The Lion King,” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” though the line has not yet shared additional specifics about the amenities or the ship's maiden voyage. An illustration on the bow will show Minnie Mouse "striking a valiant pose in a heroic ensemble, her cape waving majestically in the sea breeze as she boldly leads guests toward their vacation destinies,” the line added.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” Sharon Siskie, the line’s senior vice president and general manager, said in the release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

Are cruise drink packages worth it?: Not necessarily

The vessel will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish and the upcoming Disney Treasure, the latter of which will set sail in December. The cruise line will also add another ship, the Disney Adventure , in 2025, which will homeport in Singapore and mark the brand’s first to sail in Southeast Asia.

Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise: The Major Differences

I f you’ve been a frequent reader here, you know that I am an avid cruiser on the Disney Cruise Line. I love their beautiful ships and fantastic service and have been happy on every single sailing I’ve done. We’ve reviewed all of their ships here and we’ve always had a positive experience.

However, this past winter break, my family sailed on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and also really loved it. Many people have asked for a Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise comparison so they can choose the best option for their family.

We have loved our experience on both cruise lines, and I plan to travel on both in the future. But there are some discrete differences that are good to know, and you are likely to have a different experience on each line. Both are great for a family vacation, and both are great cruise lines for young adults and teens.

Disclosure: I’ve been on cruises on both lines at no/discounted cost, and have also paid my own way on both. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links and a purchase/click through one of these links may result in a commission paid to us at no additional cost to you.

Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise: The Most Major Differences

Number of ships on royal caribbean vs. disney cruise..

There are currently five Disney Cruise ships in service, with an additional ship, the Disney Wish, which began its inaugural season in 2022. These five cruise ships are in three different classes- with the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder being the two smaller ships and the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy being the larger two ships.

The Disney Wish is a new class – the Triton class. An additional two ships in the same class as the Disney Wish have been ordered for the future.

Royal Caribbean has twenty-seven ships in service, with more announced (including three in the new Icon class). There are several different classes – including the Oasis, Freedom, Quantum, Radiance, Voyager, and Vision Classes.

Because of the larger number of Royal Caribbean ships, you are likely to find an itinerary with ports of call that work for your busy schedule. Royal Caribbean sails in many places that Disney Cruise Line doesn’t, including ports in Asia.

With the smaller number of ships and classes on the Disney Cruise Line, there is a sense of familiarity when sailing. Every time I step onto a DCL ship, I feel comfortable, almost like going home.

On the other hand, Royal Caribbean ships, with their large fleet, vary by class and have exciting, active entrances. I don’t feel the sentimentality but do get excited to explore the ship. There are some similarities among the ships but also many differences.

For many families, this is the most important factor. Cruises can be expensive. In general, I’ve found that the base rate on the Disney Cruise Line tends to be higher than a similar-length cruise on Royal Caribbean.

However, you’ll want to look at the inclusions. Some things are included in the Disney Cruise Line that isn’t included in Royal Caribbean . These include soft drinks and room service fees (for delivery of everything except for continental breakfast).

Drink Packages

Both cruise lines offer complimentary basic beverages, including tap water, coffee and tea (excluding premium coffee), and standard juices. Other beverages are available a la carte, and each cruise line has different beverage purchase options.

On Royal Caribbean, there are several beverage packages available for purchase in advance or once you are on board (you can usually save money by purchasing in advance). The options include the Deluxe Beverage Package, the Refreshment Package, and the Soda Package. Drinks at the Starbucks locations on the ships (for those with a Starbucks) are not included in any of the packages.

Disney Cruise Line doesn’t have a package that includes all alcoholic drinks. They do, however, offer standard and premium wine packages .

Beer packages are also offered. They also have an alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink of the day which is offered at a lower price.

Keep in mind that soft drinks are included in a Disney Cruise, so you won’t have to pay separately for these. Premium coffees are also offered on Disney Cruise Line for an additional fee.

Both cruise lines have plenty of activities to keep you busy while you are at sea. The activities that you’ll experience on these lines vary, however.

The Disney Cruise Line ships have lots of Disney magic, as you’d expect. You’ll see Disney characters, Disney entertainment, and Disney movies.

There are also fun deck activities, including pools, a splash area for young kids, a play area, water slides, hot tubs, a sports deck (with a basketball court), and outdoor movies.

If you are sailing on Disney Magic, you’ll get an opportunity to ride the AquaDunk, while the Disney Dream and Fantasy offer the AquaDuck. The Disney Wish offers a new attraction called the AquaMouse.

Royal Caribbean ships are filled with fun activities, but these vary by ship. For instance, on the Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas , different experiences include an iFly, a climbing wall, a FlowRider, a North Star observation capsule, and bumper cars.

On the Wonder of the Seas , you’ll see a FlowRider, two rock walls, a carousel, Ultimate Abyss slides, mini golf, zip lining, ice skating, and a sports deck. Be sure to check the specific activities on the ship you are booking because they do vary.

If you are interested in gaming, both cruise lines offer bingo. However, the Disney Cruise Line ships do not offer casinos, while the Royal Caribbean ships do.

Entertainment

All of the cruise ship entertainment that I’ve seen on both cruise lines has always been top-notch. Disney Cruise Line offers Broadway-style musicals in the Walt Disney Theater. On longer sailings, there are often other entertainers, like magicians and ventriloquists, who perform there.

You can also see first-run movies from Disney-owned studios in the onboard theater. Singers and other musicians perform at various venues across the ships, throughout the day.

There are also other entertainment options on the Disney Cruise Line ships, including animation classes, trivia, game shows, and more. The schedule for these can be found in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.

Royal Caribbean also boasts fantastic onboard entertainment. Their shows showcase wonderful talent but aren’t specifically family-friendly.

They also have some very unique venues, including an ice-skating rink, an aqua theater, and smaller theaters like Two70. Keep in mind that these venues do vary by ship. Like on DCL, performers can be seen in bars and other venues throughout the day.

They also offer karaoke, game shows, trivia, laser tag, and other programming each day. There’s no lack of entertainment. I’ve found that the shows on Royal Caribbean are especially unique, innovative, and enjoyable, and often have great special effects.

Restaurants

Disney Cruise Line offers rotational dining. Each night, you’ll visit a different restaurant of the three options, and your serving team travels with you.

I’ve always loved this because you never get tired of the restaurant, and it’s great to have the same team traveling with you, especially if you have dietary restrictions. The restaurants are heavily themed, often with entertainment and typical Disney magic. For longer cruises, you’ll visit the same restaurants again, in the same rotation.

There are two premium restaurant options on the Disney ships. Remy and Palo are adult-only restaurants that are available on the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream , while the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder only offer Palo. The Disney Wish has Palo and a new restaurant called Enchante. These are offered for an additional fee.

In addition to the dining rooms and restaurants, there are lots of quick-service options available throughout the ships. Complimentary room service is also available.

Royal Caribbean typically offers one main dining room, although some ships have two. There are two seatings, as well as “My Time Dining”. You’ll have the same servers in the main dining room throughout the cruise.

Unlike DCL, Royal Caribbean ships offer many specialty restaurants that are not included in your cruise fare. These specialty restaurants include varied options such as Johnny Rockets, Izumi Sushi and Tepanyaki, Chops Grille, and Hooked Seafood (they vary by ship) and they can be a great add-on to your cruise.

Themed Cruises

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line offers themed cruises throughout the year. These can make your cruise experience even more exciting, with special events, decor, and characters. Some of these included:

  • Halloween on the High Seas
  • Marvel Day at Sea
  • Pixar Day at Sea
  • Very Merrytime Cruise

If your cruise is one of these special-themed cruises, it will be clearly labeled when you book.

Laundry Facilities

I generally don’t like to do chores on my family vacations, but sometimes I do have to wash clothes. Disney Cruise Line has several self-service laundry facilities onboard.

There is an additional fee for using them, but they are very easy to use and you’ll get an alert on your app when the machine stops.

Royal Caribbean doesn’t have any self-service facilities. However, there is a full-service laundry option if you need clothes to be cleaned during your trip. Sometimes, there is a promotion where you’ll receive a bag in your stateroom, and everything that fits in the bag is washed for one flat fee.

Private Islands

A private island or island resort can be one of the best cruise ship excursions. Both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line offer these experiences.

Disney Cruise Line’s Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries typically stop once at Disney’s Castaway Cay, a private island in the Bahamas. Castaway Cay is stunningly beautiful, with excursions, character interactions, beaches, a kids’ club area, and much more.

It’s usually my favorite stop on the Disney Cruise Line. There’s a new private destination in the works, also in the Bahamas.

Royal Caribbean has two private island/resort areas with more on the way. Perfect Day at CocoCay is a newly-renovated Bahamian Island offering a water park, hot air balloon, private beach club, excursions, and more. It has something for everyone, and after several trips, there are still so many things I haven’t explored there.

In addition to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean also has a private resort area in Labadee , Haiti. Labadee offers an inflatable water park, an alpine mountain coaster, an overwater zip line, along with beautiful beaches. Both of these private properties are offered on select, but not all sailings in the Caribbean.

Kids’ Clubs

If you are traveling with children, kids’ clubs may be a big part of your cruise ship experience. Both cruise lines offer kids’ clubs with great programming.

On Royal Caribbean, ships offer the Adventure Ocean Club – which is split into babies, juniors, and kids. The Adventure Ocean Club is free and offers “edutainment” programming for younger kids, including talent shows, art programming, science projects, and much more. There’s also an area dedicated specifically to teens.

The Disney Cruise Line offers the Oceaneer Club and Lab. These innovative kids clubs have some fantastic theming and activities, including Star Wars and Toy Story-themed areas.

Kids have so many different areas to play in. Disney Cruise Line also offers dedicated teen and tween clubs along with their youth clubs.

Both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line offer paid WiFi access. Royal Caribbean has two levels of internet access- a standard and one that allows steaming and is paid by the day.

Disney’s internet access has changed from a data-based fee to a flat fee. There are several tiers of Disney Cruise Line WiFi offered .

Both cruise lines offer apps that are free to use while on the ships. Disney’s app allows for free messaging to others on the ship, while Royal Caribbean charges a nominal fee for that service (although they’ve recently been waiving that fee). Disney Cruise Line also offers complimentary iMessage access for all guests on the ships.

Cruise line worker arrested at Port Everglades for child sexual abuse material, feds say

Chris Gothner , Digital Journalist

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Celebrity Cruises crew member appeared in Fort Lauderdale federal court Tuesday after federal agents said they found child sexual abuse material on his phone after he disembarked at Port Everglades the day prior.

According to court documents released Wednesday, agents searched the phone of Dennis Ofrancia De Leon, 44, a Filipino national, after he got off the Celebrity Reflection Monday.

Recommended Videos

Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Katherine Leonard wrote in a criminal complaint that a “cursory search” of the device revealed “multiple videos/photographs” depicting child sexual abuse material.

Authorities described videos showing boys and girls being raped or otherwise sexually abused by men or women.

Leonard wrote that De Leon admitted to viewing child sexual abuse material, saying he began receiving it about four years ago through Facebook Messenger and looked at it about “once per month.”

He admitted to viewing content showing victims under the age of 10, the complaint states.

De Leon said he “generally deletes the child pornography he downloads onto his cellphone prior to traveling internationally, but failed to do so on this occasion,” Leonard wrote.

He was taken into custody on federal charges of transportation and possession of child pornography and was being held in the Broward Main Jail on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service as of Wednesday, according to jail records.

Those records state he’s also being held on an immigration hold.

A spokesperson for Celebrity Cruises told Local 10 News that De Leon was fired following his arrest.
