U.S. 199 follows the Redwood Highway from U.S. 101 north of Crescent City to Interstate 5 at Grants Pass, Oregon. U.S. 199 is also part of the long Winnemucca to the Sea Highway. Originating in Winnemucca, Nevada, the auto trail overlays U.S. 95 north, multi state route 140 west and U.S. 395 to Oregon 62 west. I-5 leads the highway north to Grants Pass, with U.S. 199 extending it southwest to Crescent City and the Pacific Ocean. This route was once considered to be unified under a single U.S. highway number.

Old u.s. 199 - oregon mountain road.
This suite of photos follows old U.S. 199 southbound over Oregon Mountain Road. Oregon Mountain Road is the original route of U.S. 199, and it passes over the current route of U.S. 199 through the Collier Tunnel. The old route is passable, with one gravel section near the Oregon Mountain Summit.
Some sections of the route are overgrown with weeds and trees, and other parts have exposed rocks and earth. Certain curves are switchbacks with a 10 mile per hour advisory speed. Remnant white striping can still be seen on portions of the road, in addition to old guardrail and curbing. At no point along the route is the Collier Tunnel visible. The old alignment is mileposted as Del Norte County 324. It reconnects with U.S. 199 on the south end of the tunnel.

EUGENE, Ore — UPDATE: 11:30 4/29/24 a.m.
Tripcheck.com is no longer reporting any lane closures on I-5 northbound at milepost 226, 8 miles north of Albany.
UPDATE: 4/29/24 7:35 a.m.
ODOT is reporting that the off ramp for I-5 northbound has reopened, 4 miles north of the intersection with Beltline Hwy, at milepost 199.
Tripcheck.com is reporting that 1 lane of northbound I-5 is still being delayed. Estimated delays are under 20 minutes.

ODOT is reporting that the off ramp for I-5 northbound is closed do to a crash.
A crash has occurred 4 miles north of the Beltline Highway exit, at milepost 199. ODOT advises to use an alternate route, ramps are affected.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that 1 lane of I-5 northbound at milepost 226, is still affected due to police activity in the area.
Estimated delays are 20 minutes and under.
Police advise to use causation and expect delays.

Highway 199 is the main travel corridor between Crater Lake National Park and Redwood National Park and is also the only highway that passes through the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon. It is only 88 miles long but offers an astonishing amount of natural and cultural things to see and enjoy. The focus of this site is on the Siskiyou Mountains in the central part of Highway 199 corridor.

This project will replace three 1920s-era bridges on Rogue River Highway with structures that are better able to withstand earthquakes. The bridges are located east of the city of Rogue River at Birdseye Creek (MP 10.8), Foots Creek (MP 11.4), and Millers Gulch (MP 12.2).
