Oakville car lovers - Cruze Nights are back

The Lions Club of Oakville have partnered with Oakville Place to host its weekly Cruze Nights changing the event from Tuesdays to Wednesdays, beginning May 24th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  

“This new location will give the event more exposure and room to grow”, says Trevor Jones of the Oakville Lions and Chair of this event.

“Not only is the parking area larger so that we can expand, but the location will allow our participants many shopping and dining options, as well as allow shoppers a chance to come out and see the collection of cars that continue to support this event.”

The event is set to start its 18th year hosted by the Lions Club of Oakville, a service club that has been serving the community of Oakville since 1935. With all funds raised going directly back into the community.

The event has certainly grown since its humble beginnings at Hopedale Mall in 2005, which for the first 3 or 4 years saw about 45 cars on average. For the past 13 years, it was held at Dorval Crossing and grew to an average of 150 to 200 cars every week. As the season finale approached last year, there were over 300 cars participating in the event.

The Cruze Night is free of charge and invites car enthusiasts to bring and showcase their classic and antique cars and trucks, as well as hot rods and special sports and exotic cars and classic motorcycles. Upon arrival, those with a vehicle to showcase will be given a ticket and a chance to win door prizes.

The event is also free to the public, who are invited to walk amongst the cars and marvel at the attention to detail that these car enthusiasts put into their cars. However, we remind you to look, but not touch, as you walk around the cars.

Bicycles are not permitted into the parking area. If you do arrive by bicycle you can park it at the Lions tent, where it will be looked after until you leave.

Keeping with the tradition of classical times, Jan’s Disc Jockey will be providing music from the era, with many memorable foot-stomping tunes and ballads for our entertainment.

Every evening we ask all those who participate to help us help others. The Lions Club will run a 50/50 draw every Cruze Night, and provide a donation jar. Your support will help our community.

Drivers are asked to drive east onto Iroquois Shores Road at the corner of Trafalgar Road and Iroquois Shore Road, then turn right onto Oakville Place Drive, continue around under the overpass and turn right into the northeast corner parking lot of Oakville Place.

For drivers, there is a height restriction of just over seven feet. If your vehicle is over this height please contact one of the Lions listed below to find an alternative entrance and exit.

The exit at the end of the event will be from the parking lot onto Leighland Avenue; a right turn out of the parking lot takes you back to Trafalgar Road.

Cruze Nights take place every Wednesday evening from May 21 to September 20. The start time is 6:00 p.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m. or dusk. If it looks like rain, participants and spectators can always check the Facebook page, Oakville Lions Cruze, to see if the event is cancelled.

That's it for the blog today!

So round nine of the 2024 AFL season is in the books. We had some floggings, some close finishes and even a draw, all of which has made for a pretty decent weekend of footy.

Keep an eye out on ABC Sport as we wrap up the round and look ahead to round 10. But until Thursday night, that's it for the blog. I'll see you again soon.

Match report: Adelaide 13.12 (90) drew with Brisbane 13.12 (90)

Adelaide and Brisbane have fought out a thrilling draw, with Lion Callum Ah Chee and Crow Darcy Fogarty kicking four goals each.

The Crows and Lions both scored 13.12 (90) in Sunday's fixture, with a behind from Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson with 96 seconds remaining squaring the scores.

Brisbane held a game-high 18-point advantage midway through the last quarter but with Fogarty slotting two goals, Adelaide edged six points clear with around five minutes left.

The Lions' Ah Chee levelled scores with his fourth goal, followed by a Harry Sharp behind which gave the visitors a one-point buffer.

But Dawson's 35-metre shot on the run, which narrowly missed a goal, ensured the clubs shared the premiership points.

Both the Crows and Lions have three wins, a draw and five losses to sit 12th and 13th spot on the ladder respectively.

Ah Chee's scoring was pivotal for the Lions while second-gamer Logan Morris kicked two majors.

Brisbane stalwarts Hugh McCluggage (31 disposals, one goal), Jarrod Berry (30, one goal) and Dayne Zorko (26 touches) were standouts.

Adelaide livewire Izak Rankine was superb with three goals and 24 possessions, Fogarty was an attacking force, and Taylor Walker and Elliott Himmelberg kicked two goals each.

There were half chances at both ends to win it. Jordan Dawson will rue his late miss, though it wasn't an easy one at all.

FT: IT'S A DRAW! Adelaide and Brisbane play a draw!

It's a draw. 13.12 (90) apiece. It feels like an anti-climax but is perhaps exactly what the game deserved.

Neither team really had a chance to win it from the moment that Jordan Dawson's behind leveled the scores again. Brisbane had the ball at their end an inside their 50 in the final seconds, but couldn't fashion a look at goals.

It was completely neck and neck for three quarters, then Brisbane kicked three quickly to start the last term. Adelaide answered with four in a row, but Callum Ah Chee's goal with a little over three minutes on the clock was a decisive one.

What does this mean for the Crows and Lions? Nothing really, in the short term. They started the game in 12th and 13th and will finish the game in 12th and 13th. Maybe those two points each could come in handy later in the year if a late-season push for finals eventuates, but at the same time it could end up being a costly missed chance.

A draw. There you go.

We've had repeat stoppages on the wing. Will somebody risk losing to have a crack at winning?

We are all square again with 90 seconds to play.

Harry Sharp kicks a behind

The Lions blew a golden chance there but still got a behind out of it.

They lead by a point with a little over two minutes to play.

Callum Ah Chee has his fourth and we're all square again!

What a final quarter we are watching here. This game had been a bit of a punish up until this last term, but it's exploded into life now.

Eric Hipwood just torped that ball as far as he could from inside the centre square and it happened to fall straight to Ah Chee. He's in rare form in front of goal today and made it count, squaring the game up yet again.

3:36 to play. It's anyone's.

Darcy Fogarty has four! And the Crows are in front!

They looked down for the count when Dunkley put Brisbane three goals ahead, but the Crows have found something else within them to drag this lead back and now overthrow it.

Jordan Dawson had a hand in it again, marking on the boundary and finding Fogarty with a lovely kick into the pocket. Fogarty converted and Adelaide Oval erupted.

Darcy Fogarty levels the scores! The Crows have lifted!

The Crows have cut them up again, and again it was Rankine and Dawson in combination that launched the attack through the middle.

Himmelberg held his nerve inside 50 and found Fogarty with a precise kick. Fogarty made amends for his 3QT miss, and we are all square again in Adelaide.

Izak Rankine into an open goal! The Crows aren't done with yet!

We're seeing the best of Adelaide now! Fast and bold off half-back, this is the footy that beat Port Adelaide last week.

Jordan Dawson is lifting in the last, but Taylor Walker deserves a lot of credit for keeping his composure in the pocket and outbodying Payne. His squaring snap to Rankine was just as good, and Izak could stroll to the line to kick the goal.

Elliott Himmelberg pulls one back for Adelaide!

They probably needed one quickly, and Himmelberg has delivered. Dawson won the free kick in the middle and went in long and strong.

The pack formed, but Himmelberg stayed out of it. The ball fell to him out the back of the pack and he had all the time he needed to finish off the goal.

Josh Dunkley off the deck! Lions lead it by three goals!

Brisbane are completely dominating this last quarter and now have kicked the last five goals of the game.

They're just forcing it forward and keeping it alive, and Dunkley was quick of mind and foot to sink the boot into that off the ground from about 20 metres out. It's going to be tough for the Crows from here!

Callum Ah Chee kicks another! The Lions are on the charge!

Lachie Neale's little dummy and pause sent two Crows defenders to the shops, and his slick handball through congestion opened the door for Ah Chee.

His snap was perfect for his third goal. The Lions lead by 12, and Adelaide Oval is stunned.

Jarrod Berry from way downtown! Lions in front!

He was set up by Brain, who took a strong intercept mark and then quickly laced out Berry. But he was still a mile out from goal and had to pick the absolute bones out of that one.

It's a monster kick from Berry and a huge moment in this game. Brisbane hit the lead.

Shadeau Brain is in the game

The Lions have unleashed their debutant who started the game as the sub.

He's caught holding the ball within a minute of his AFL debut, which is unfortunate.

Match report: Collingwood 15.12 (103) def West Coast 5.7 (37)

Brilliant midfielder Nick Daicos has continued his red-hot form to lead AFL heavyweights Collingwood to a 66-point thrashing of West Coast amid injury carnage for both sides.

As the Magpies' makeshift forward line lost Jeremy Howe to a groin issue, Daicos pulled the strings in the engine room during a 15.13 (103) to 5.7 (37) victory at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The smooth-moving ball-winner racked up 36 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven clearances, seven tackles and a goal as Collingwood improved to 5-1-3 ahead of a clash with Adelaide.

The Magpies also secured a much-needed percentage boost, lifting nine points to push above 100 for the first time this season.

But the win came at a cost, with Howe (groin) and Harvey Harrison (ankle) hurt during the first quarter.

Former St Kilda midfielder Jack Bytel, who was substituted in for Howe on his Magpies debut, also failed to finish the match because of concussion after a collision with Jack Darling.

West Coast lost experienced defender Jeremy McGovern (ribs) and speedster Jack Petruccelle (ankle) to injuries on a dirty day.

Daicos had plenty of support through brother Josh Daicos (28 disposals), Scott Pendlebury (28), Jack Crisp (32) and John Noble (25) in a dominant Collingwood performance that started in the middle.

The Pies won a lop-sided clearance count 38-25, including a 16-6 annihilation at centre bounces.

Finlay Macrae and Reef McInnes kicked career-high tallies of three goals each, and Bobby Hill added two more, while mature-age recruit Joe Richards impressed on debut with 1.2 and three goal assists from 18 disposals.

Liam Duggan (27 disposals) and Alex Witherden (30) battled on for West Coast and emerging star Harley Reid (17) took a huge early mark on Billy Frampton's back, but it was a rare highlight for the visitors.

3QT: Darcy Fogarty misses after the siren to give the Crows a one-point lead

A missed opportunity for Fogarty and Adelaide, but that behind is all that splits these two teams at the last turn.

It's anyone's game from here, with Adelaide slightly disadvantaged by being a man down on the bench. The Crows looked like they were taking some control late in that quarter, only for the Lions to very quickly respond.

It's been a stalemate almost all afternoon. Can someone break it open? Or will this be an arm wrestle right to the final siren?

Joe Daniher kicks a ripper! And we are all square at Adelaide Oval!

Just when it looked like the Crows would take a decent gap to the last change, the Lions go bang bang and level things up.

Daniher got in front of Keane and scooped up the ground ball, then shrugged under the tackle and snapped the goal. Big moment.
