Location: Death Valley National Park, California Duration: 3 days/2 nights Cost: from $2,199

U.S. and Aspen Snowmass Tour

a road with yellow leaves and trees

Designed for serious road riders comfortable pedaling at altitude (e-bikes are not an option here), this guided tour takes you on routes that pro cyclists tackle in series including the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the Colorado Classic. All that exertion will likely work up an appetite , which is good since the itinerary includes a three-course dinner in Glenwood Springs (a resort town brimming with natural hot springs), a sunset BBQ cookout, and an evening meal at the historic Redstone Inn, where the menu features hearty pastas, steaks, and classic American desserts (apple crisp, anyone?).

Bikes, Bites & Brews Chicago’s Signature Dishes Bike Tour

a group of people jumping in the air in front of wrigley field in chicago

This casual-paced, 13-mile guided tour combines two of our favorite things: cycling and eating. You’ll sample fare from the Windy City’s “four favorite food groups:” pizza, hot dogs, brownies, and beer, according to the tour company’s website .

The daytime tour takes you through northside neighborhoods, passing Lincoln Park, the Old Town Historic District, and Wrigleyville (home to Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play), and more. And the evening route charts through downtown, encompassing highlights like the Chicago Riverwalk, Millennium Park (a hub of public art), and Buckingham Fountain, plus others.

Both tours include deep-dish pizza from locals’ favorite Lou Malnati’s plus lots of other bites, as well as history lessons on Chicago’s classic food dishes and local neighborhoods.

Location: Chicago, Illinois Duration: 4 hours Cost: from $80

So here they are: our Top Ten Tours.

bike tours top 10

1. Bike Across Italy – From Venice to Pisa

Cycle into the heart and soul of italian history, art, culture and cuisine.

This is it – the bicycle tour that we first created back in 1972; the “big bang” of our family business. If you love “everything Italy”: Roman and Renaissance history, the landscape, the great artworks, the architecture and the famed cities, and the wonderful culture, food and wine, then you’ll love our most beloved tour across Italy from Venice to Pisa. Beginning in romantic Venice, you’ll cycle through the heart and soul of Italy, following routes we’ve ridden for decades. You’ll enjoy gourmet meals and wines from Italy’s most renowned culinary regions, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany and you’ll have time to wander through the great art cities of Ferrara, Ravenna & Florence, ending your journey by exploring Lucca and pedaling to Pisa.  Along the way, you’ll take in local markets and discover a side of Italy seldom seen by tourists.

Highlights:  Gourmet meals and wines. Venice. Ravenna. Florence. Lucca. Pisa. The gorgeous countryside of Tuscany. The farms, orchards and food of Emilia-Romagna.

“The trip of a lifetime. The tour guides were amazing and worked tirelessly to provide everything we needed. The routes were incredible, the food fantastic, the hotels spot on”   – Jacqueline M., Brooklyn, NY

2. Cycling the Camino de Santiago

An ancient spanish spiritual pilgrimage and the “tour of a lifetime”.

Selected by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of “50 Tours of a Lifetime,” this is more than a beautiful bicycle tour, it’s an ancient pilgrimage, spiritual journey, and an experience not to miss. “A pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is the finest journey in Spain,” wrote James Michener, and if you join this singular tour across northern Spain, from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic, you too will discover the magic of the Camino de Santiago. From Gothic cathedrals, to medieval monasteries, you’ll pedal through one of Spain’s premier wine growing regions – the Rioja – and encounter pilgrims and adventurous travelers from around the world.

Highlights:  Follows the route of the Codex Calixtinus. 1000 years of history along the Camino de Santiago. Coordination to obtain your Pilgrim’s Passport. Guided tour of León and Burgos

“This tour has just enough of everything you could possibly want in a bicycle tour: history, food, great routes and interesting people. There are few routes in the world where you bicycle or walk by 20 people speaking 5 different languages! Throughout history the Camino was a corridor that connected Europe. More recently it has become a path shared by thousands of people every year—exploring as they travel towards Santiago. You’ll find extraordinary cuisine, history, landscapes and great bicycling on many of our tours—but this particular one has just the right amount of all of these elements to make it extra special!” Dana S., Fairport, N ew York

3. Bicycling Patagonia’s Lake District Plus the Islands Of Chiloé

Cross the andes from argentina to chile.

Escape south and spend two weeks in the South American summer cycling through the Andes and crossing the continental divide from Argentina to Chile. You’ll pedal from the high plateau of San Carlos de Bariloche, coast alongside shimmering Andean lakes, and wind down through the valleys of the border region into Chile’s Lake District. Shimmering bodies of water will be a constant theme as you descend from the Andean lakes to the ocean, passing through scenery and a landscape so diverse you’ll feel as if every day you are visiting a new country.

Highlights : Chile’s Lake District, the Argentinian and Chilean Andes, Views of Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes, Waterfalls on the Petrohué River, Thermal Pools, San Carlos de Bariloche

“I have described this as the best vacation of my life.” Toni H., Steamboat Springs, Colorado

4. Cycling Corsica Plus! Beaches and Bonifacio

A tour leader and staff favorite and possibly our most beautiful bike tour.

“Pure cycling pleasure.” Corsica is one of the most spectacular bicycle rides in the Mediterranean basin, and for some, the world. As one of our tour leaders says, “Corsica has phenomenal roads that lead to endless pleasures: beaches, mountains, the wonderful and exotic aroma of the maquis (local wild shrubland), fiadone (delicious Corsican cheesecake), Pietra (chestnut beer), and rides that are challenging without being exhausting.” From the sea, Corsica appears as a large piece of Alpine Europe floating on a bed of cobalt blue. Geologically, Corsica is more closely related to the Alps than it is to its larger neighbor to the south, the Italian island of Sardinia. But culturally and linguistically this birthplace of Napoleon is all Mediterranean. Inlets and harbors are filled with bright blue and white fishing boats and palm-lined streets bustle with colorful marketplaces and a a wide variety of cultural blends and exotic dialects brought from northern Africa, mainland Italy, and the rest of the Mediterranean basin. An island of stunning natural beauty, Corsica is also an island of delightful surprises and cultural treasures for the touring cyclist.

Highlights : Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Extraordinary coastal and mountain scenery. French and Mediterranean food. Picturesque villages. Beautiful Pisan and Genoese churches. Fabulous beaches. Impressive watchtowers along the coast.

“Corsica was really magical. It has everything, lush forests, desert, beaches, mountains. I would love to go back .”   Susan A., Colorado Springs, CO

5. Bike Across Portugal

Our best selling tour in portugal – a journey back in time.

Cycle peaceful roads and explore ancient Roman cities as you ride across Portugal’s south-central lands and rugged West Coast. You’ll ride through an ever-changing tableau of undulating wheat fields, ancient cork and eucalyptus groves, and extensive olive orchards, vineyards, and farms. As you pedal through the western outpost of continental Europe, amidst a landscape delicately framed by stunning beaches and endless blue sky, you’ll be immersed in a historically rich and uniquely Portuguese landscape. The ride takes you through towns and cities whose architecture blends and harmonizes its centuries of ancient Roman, Arabic, Medieval and Renaissance influences. Along the way, you’ll visit an active marble quarry, see the ceramics of São Pedro do Corval, explore the celebrated Medieval town of Evora and enjoy wonderful wine tastings, excellent, earthy cuisine and a stay in a variety of historic hotels  and Pousadas.

Highlights:  Rural roads. Serene historic hotels. Roman ruins. Medieval cities. Alqueva reservoir. One of the world’s best places for stargazing. Artisanal pottery. Winemaking and marble works. The rugged coastline and the furthest southwestern point of the Continent and the Vicentina National Park.

“How would you describe this tour to a friend? In a word… Peaceful. The countryside is gorgeous, the people are friendly, the food/wine are YUM, the shoreline is breathtaking, and traffic is minimal and courteous. Make it last forever :)” Jarmila G., Idledale, CO

8. Cycling the Dordogne Plus! the Vineyards of Bordeaux

one of france’s most stunning river valley’s takes you along the scenic route to taste world-famous wine and food..

We think the Dordogne is one of Europe’s most underappreciated rivers. The Dordogne River Valley is part of the historical region of Aquitaine, which for centuries was vaster and richer than the territory held by the kings of France. It passes through deep gorges, steep cliffs, fertile farmland to its mouth in the Bay of Biscay near Bordeaux.  That is why we love sharing the experience of cycling along the river from Brive-la-Gaillarde to St. Émilion by way of some of the nicest cycling routes and most hospitable hosts in Europe. Along the way you will visit cave sculptures at Cap Blanc, explore St. Émilion for two nights and sample some of France’s finest wine and food on one of our all-time favorite bicycle tours.

Highlights:  beautiful landscapes, Gouffres of Padirac, 3 nights in Sarlat, Rocamadour, medieval castles.

“This was one of the best cycling vacations I have taken in Europe. (I have taken 13) I LOVED France. Our guides were great. Also, I really, really love the EP format with the arrows allowing me to be more free on my own. The people, the scenery, the culture, the history. The food (and wine of course)! I loved it all.”  Helen Z., Las Cruces, NM

9. Cycling the Lakes of Austria and Slovenia Plus! Ljubljana

Three countries, three cultures, and a lifetime worth of views on this tour of a lifetime..

While Cycling the Lakes of Austria and Slovenia you will pedal through the intersection of Slavic, German and Italian culture as you cycle scenic roads with stunning backdrops of alpine landscape – you’ll even experience a hint of Italy’s Mediterranean coast along the way.   Highlights:  Lake Ossiach, Drava river path , Tarvisio, Klagenfurt, Villach, Lake Faak, Lake Bled, Border hopping between Austria, Slovenia and Italy, Julian Alps.

“What was your favorite experience on this trip? It is a toss up between the soup cooked in the outdoor caldron and schnapps tasting in Podkoren and the carriage ride around Lake Bled. Five Boro Bike Tour takes over NYC. Here's why over 32,000 cyclists from around the world rode 40 miles.

By Kristie Keleshian , Zinnia Maldonado

Updated on: May 5, 2024 / 8:59 PM EDT / CBS New York

NEW YORK --  New York City's Five Boro Bike Tour is the largest charitable bike ride in the United States. It starts in Manhattan, then covers 40 miles across the five boroughs to end on Staten Island.

Five Boro Bike Tour route map

untitled-design.png

The first wave of cyclists started at 7:30 a.m. from the intersection of Franklin and Church Street in Tribeca. The last wave left at 10:25 a.m.

The route then heads up into the Bronx, over to Queens, back down to Brooklyn and ends at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, where riders can then catch a ferry back to Manhattan.

"It's 40 miles and I enjoy every minute of it," said Anthony Maynard, from Columbia, South Carolina.

"It was a great destination and it was a tour, not a race, so we thought that it would be a first thing for us. We are not cyclists, so we've trained some," Nichole Muller, of Texas, said at the starting line.

Many riders arrived Saturday to pick up their bibs and to attend the annual blessing of the bikes.

"One of the reasons people come here, certainly not the only reason, but one of the reasons is people are aware of how dangerous this is, riding a bike in New York, and they come to pray for their own safety and ask us to pray with them for their own safety," said Patrick Malloy, Dean of Cathedral St. Catherine of the Divine.

There is no official end time, but most riders should be done by the evening.

"We're riding a tandem bike together, so that will be interesting just to take it to another level. We practiced yesterday in Central Park, we're good New York, we're good," added Meredith Mitsifer, of Arizona. "This is going to be amazing, I can't wait to see New York in a whole different way."

Cycling for a cause

The Five Boro Bike Tour represents all ages and abilities.

"It feels like a microcosm of the world," said Bike New York President and CEO Ken Podziba.

More than 32,000 cyclists take part in the charity ride, which raises money for Bike New York's free bike education programs. The nonprofit teaches children and adults how to ride, as well as bike safety.

"I'm riding on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation," said Steve Shiffman, whose wife has cystic fibrosis.

"We wanted to bring awareness to ovarian cancer," said Nicole Moler, with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in Dallas, Texas.

Participants from around the world say the event is a rare chance to explore the city in this way.

"I think a lot of people that maybe are not familiar with the city, they think of New York as just Manhattan, but there's so much more to New York, and I think doing it on a bike is probably the most unique way you can possibly do it," said Will Stafford, from Virginia.

Five Boro Bike Tour road closures

Of course, the bike tour also meant street, bridge and tunnel closures for drivers across the city.

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was closed from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. The upper level remained open in both directions.

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge exit ramp to the southbound FDR Drive closed from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The approach from the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to the westbound Gowanus/Brooklyn Queens Expressway closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

See the full list of road closures here.

Doors open minneapolis offers rare peek inside more than 100 buildings.

Doors Open Minneapolis offers the keys to buildings — or spaces within buildings — that are often closed to the public. Think behind the scenes, backstage, below ground.

Sure, you can buy a ticket to a concert at the Cedar Cultural Center. But during Doors Open , you can also check out the venue's green room, where the artists hang.

Last year's free event, the first since 2019, brought 14,000 people to 87 locations across the city. This year's event is even bigger, with 105 venues.

It's run by Rethos, formerly the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota. That organization "used to focus a lot on buildings," said Kelly Fischer, heritage tourism manager. "And of course, it still does. But ultimately, the field of historic preservation has started to gear more towards the stories of people that inhabit those buildings.

"Because the buildings have a lot less meaning when they're not attached to story and culture and history."

Half of the event's venues are historic. There are plenty of old churches, theaters and homes. But many of those historic spaces are hubs of activity. The Star Tribune's printing press was "a huge hit last year," Fischer said. Last year, it was open only on Saturday and "got absolutely slammed." So this year, it will be open both days.

Some tours require tickets, but all venues are free. Buses and light-rail are free, too, and there are 10 free parking ramps and lots, mostly downtown. The event runs Saturday and Sunday, but not all venues are open both days. More information can be found at www.doorsopenminneapolis.org .

Here are three ways to explore:

If you love planes, trains and automobiles:

Check out the Minneapolis Traffic Management Center , where experts use up-to-the-minute traffic surveillance and other tools to manage how cars move throughout the city. Stop by the Metro Transit Blue Line Operations and Maintenance Facility on Franklin Avenue, where tour guides will "teach you how the system runs and how we keep it in tip-top shape." Then go to the Lift Garage on E. Lake Street, an auto repair shop that offers low-income people low-cost car repair. There, technicians will explain tools and parts, putting cars on lifts to show kids and adults alike what they look like underneath.

If you want to explore Black history:

Start in North Minneapolis at the Capri Theater, one of this year's new venues, to see the stage where Prince performed his first solo show. Stop by the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder to "experience the rich history of this black press," via tours, photos and old papers. Then make your way to south Minneapolis to the historic Coliseum Building on E. Lake Street, another new venue. The 1917 building has long been a hub for Black businesses . Burned during the riots after the police murder of George Floyd, it just got a $28 million reconstruction. This tour offers a first look.

If you want to peek underground:

Sure, this event gives several chances to see the city from a tall perch. (The Foshay Tower's 30th-floor observation deck is a favorite.) But the event also offers a look below. The city of Minneapolis will be sending a camera down a sewer manhole on Nicollet Mall and setting up a closed-circuit television truck so that passersby can see the inside of the sewer system. Then, travel 82 feet beneath the Elmer L. Andersen Library to explore the Minnesota Library Access Center , a subterranean library of 1.5 million volumes. It's one cool cave.

Rodopi Road Cycling (Bulgaria) Tour

Rodopi Road Cycling (Bulgaria)

The tour covered very impressive country side and most of the roads were great for cycling. My guide Ivan was excellent; he was well informed on history and all aspects of the regions we explored. Overall, he was great company (and his English was excellent). The only problems I encountered were related to the information given prior to the trip. First, the pick up at Sofia airport: my information was that an OK taxi would provide pick up and delivery to hotel. I expected to be met by an OK taxi person at the airport; however, it turned out that I had to find the OK taxi booth myself and ask for taxi - you should make that clear. Second, the information on what to bring was very confusing. A whole list of things that were irrelevant for a vehicle supported cycling tour was provided. For example, it was advised to bring bike panniers, but given the vehicle support that was clearly unnecessary. Someone who was less experienced in these sorts of trips may have gone out and bought expensive panniers unnecessarily - that would have been a total waste of money.

Cycling holiday: Angkor Wat - Saigon 10days Tour

Cycling holiday: Angkor Wat - Saigon 10days

There were two parts of the tour – Cambodia and Vietnam. Cambodia five stars hands down, Vietnam three stars, at a push. And the main difference was in the guides. Cambodia was simply brilliant, better than I could ever imagine. Sin, our guide, was simply the best and the whole tour was really well organised. We were informed of what the day is going to be like, breaks were timed perfectly, Sin and the driver always prepared various refreshments for us, every day different speciality so we got to taste Cambodian food. Sin brought us to a local market, introduced us to different fruit, Cambodian traditional desserts, I would’ve never tasted this without a local guide that wanted to show us the best from Cambodia. I was leaving Cambodia with a smile on my face and a bit of sadness of saying goodbye to Sin. We crossed the border to Vietnam and that was when it all went downhill. After a very lengthy process crossing the Cambodian/Vietnamese border we met our new guide, Mr. Trung. The first impression wasn’t the best and, unfortunately, set the tone for the rest of the tour. We had asked, numerous times, to get local experience instead of having meals in touristy restaurants, yet, Mr. Trung booked a hotel for our dinner in Chau Doc, even though there was one restaurant right next door and another across the road. Hoping for the next day to be better, unfortunately, it got worse. Starting at 7.30am and arriving in our new hotel at 7pm, with barely any breaks. No fruit, drinks, refreshments, unless you want to call a banana and a handful of peanuts that. We eventually had to ask for lunch, Mr. Trung found some random home place where they made beautiful food for us, which was a great experience. Off for more cycling, no communication from the guide, no showing us what’s around, where are we cycling, we had to ask for another break, as the weather was scorching and we were running out of water. After finishing the cycle for the day we boarded the van and drove for 3 hours to Can Tho, sourced our own dinner and barely spent 12 hrs in the place before setting off again. Can Tho looked like a place worth exploring, unfortunately we didn’t get to see any of that. Another day, another cycling in a loop and boarding the van to get to our next destination. The Vietnamese part was disappointing, as I assumed we would cycle to get closer to our next stop, not cycle practically in a circle and then drive. Fruit, snacks, drinks were non-existent, until the last day of the tour. The food was amazing though and choice of places to eat couldn’t have been better. However, Mr. Trung didn’t seem to be interested in the tour, interested in us as a group, was distant and never bothered to learn our names. To him, I was a ‘miss’, ‘lady’ or ‘excuse me’. He barely took any photos, didn’t engage in conversations much and his English was poor. Complete opposite to Sin. Overall, I am delighted I chose a cycling tour as it helped me to get to know the countries much better than just driving around sitting on a bus. Cycling through villages, people waving at us, kids giggling, cows getting in the way, monkeys walking around, catching sunset in Phnom Penh, this all made my holiday unforgettable.

Cycling Holiday: Angkor Wat to Saigon 10 days

williamartk Edmonton, Canada Life changing experience Review of Vietnam By Bike Reviewed today This was a 10 day cycling tour Angkor Wat to Siagon through Vietnam by bike .I really don’t know what to say but Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. My wife had wanted to do this cycling trip through Cambodia and Vietnam for over 15 years. We decided to do it for our 30 Anniversary and had some of the best experiences of our lives. Starting with Kuysin greeting us at airport, guide to hotel and of course Vuthy and Sambath. Vuthy took us on some amazing adventures through the temples of Cambodia, jungles and through villages where everyone was so friendly. It’s amazing how the children are so happy with a wave and hello and not expecting anything. The floating village on Tonle Sap Lake was incredible to see. Our rides were perfectly paced and breaks were perfectly timed, with Sambath providing great snacks, fruit and water. Every day seemed to get better and we learned so much from Vuthy‘s Knowledge of Cambodian life that would take years and dedication to learn . Temples, villages, silk farm, Floating village, I could keep going on but I need to thank The Vietnam team as well, Ut welcoming us with a nice What’s App when we entered but then we met Loc Ly and his driver Tong . Loc sensed early we didn’t like crowds and kept us away from busy tourists areas and made sure we saw the great sights before the crowds arrived. He took us on great trails through villages, canals, forests and past rice fields , to an island stay . Loc also took us on a couple boat rides and we ended the trip with a beautiful night cruise supper. Loc shared his passion and great knowledge with us that would take years to learn. We are extremely grateful for all the wonderful things we were shown and experienced. , Cobra wine, , puffed rice, coconut candy making, rice refinery and much more. Taking us to delicious local restaurants to experience true Vietnamese food. These guides went far and above our expectations. What we learned from these guides cannot be learned anywhere else and the experiences they provided are priceless. Another review gave a 6 out of a 5 star review but I say 5.999999999 / 5 . 9 is said to be lucky and I wish nothing but the best for my new friends as they are not just guides anymore they are like brothers. Wishing them all a healthy and prosperous New Year. I do also wish to say the hotels we stayed at were all excellent and had kind staff and were able to communicate with us as we could only speak English. Date of experience: January 2024

Mountain Biking in the High Atlas

Back at home we usually had moments of mountain biking. But this 8-day active Mountain Biking tour was one of a kind. It was a great adventure for us. As experienced mountain bikers, this adventure was challenging but extremely amazing. Throughout our tour we rode through amazing trails while enjoying the beauty of the Moroccan landscapes. We began from Marrakech to Imlil, and explored various Berber villages—and loved the culture of the Berber people. Our desire to take part in an amazing mountain biking was elevated by the hospitality and delicious typical Berber food. All in all it was a unique mountain biking experience. One that we’d never had before. We appreciate you View Morocco for your selflessness!

How to shop for a kids’ bike, according to experts

Two kids riding on bikes

Teaching your child to ride a bike is one thing, but helping them find the right bike can be another challenge. Whether your child is just learning how to catch their balance or simply itching to take a joy ride around the neighborhood, investing in a good-quality bike that fits their age and height is a worthwhile pursuit. Since kids’ bikes are often sized differently from those for adults, there’s a lot to consider when shopping for the right one.

To help you get started, we spoke to cycling experts about how to find the right bike for your child and what to consider when it comes to identifying the correct size, weight and type of bike. We also compiled a list of highly rated and expert-recommended options that are in line with their shopping guidance.

How to shop for a kids’ bike

When shopping for a kids’ bike, you want to ensure you’re getting one that will fit your child. Like adult bikes, the wheel size will indicate how big the frame is, says Alison Dewey, education director with bicycling advocacy organization League of American Bicyclists . Typical wheel sizes for kids’ bikes range between 12 and 24 inches, and the bigger (and often older) your child is, the bigger their bike’s wheels should be.

Another way to measure bike size is by your child’s inseam, the length from the floor to your child’s seat. Most bikes will offer multiple sizes, and bike maker Schwinn even has estimates as to which size to buy, depending on your child’s age:

  • 1 to 4 years old: 12-inch wheels
  • 3 to 4 years old: 14-inch wheels
  • 3 to 7 years old: 16-inch wheels
  • 5 to 9 years old: 18-inch wheels
  • 7 to 13 years old: 20-inch wheels
  • 10 to 15 years old: 24-inch wheels

Of course, since children vary widely in size and body type, the numbers above will also likely vary. When determining the right size bike for your child, you should start by looking at the top tube — the bar at the top of the bike closest to the seat — and whether your child touches it when they’re in a normal standing position, says Lor Song , education programs manager at the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia .

“Make sure that when the child straddles over the bike in a normal pedestrian stance, the top tube doesn’t hit their lower area — that’s usually a good indication that the height is right for the child,” says Song. Dewey adds that you also want there to be a little bit of space there, “so that it’s not a danger if they stop suddenly.”

Considering how quickly kids grow at younger ages, an adjustable seat post can help tailor the bike’s fit to your child and extend its usage. Dewey notes that the child’s toes should be touching the ground when seated, but they shouldn’t be flat-footed since that indicates the seat is too low. She also warns that most bike manufacturers will include an etched line on the post that signifies a “danger zone” — if you raise the seat past that line, you risk the seat snapping off or the frame breaking. You can raise the seat post about 4 to 5 inches before hitting that line.

Dewey and Song also suggest paying attention to the bike’s weight. A bike that’s too heavy for your child will make it difficult for them to navigate and exhausting to ride long distances. Our experts also recommend finding a bike with a frame weighing no more than 50% of your child’s weight, as lighter bikes are easier to maneuver. Safety is also worth mentioning: On top of considerations like traffic, other riders and the amount of time you’re riding, ensure your child is wearing a helmet and other protective gear.

This tricycle comes with an adjustable seat, a storage compartment in the back and a petal lock in case you want to push your child via the handle. This model comes with thick tires for balance and has a weight capacity of up to 60 pounds, according to the brand. It also comes with an adjustable seat and handlebar height to help you fit it to your child, and it weighs under seven pounds, which makes it easy for your toddler to maneuver, according to the brand. The bike also has a 155-pound weight limit, has seven gears that can be manually adjusted using a twist shifter and includes ergonomic handlebars with screw-in grips to ensure comfort and safety, the brand says. What are the different types of kids’ bikes.

Dewey and Song note that there are several types of kids’ bikes to consider depending on your child’s age and size. Toddlers and young children learning to ride a bike will likely benefit from tricycles and balance bikes, while bigger kids who are more comfortable with balance and riding should lean more toward two-wheeled cruisers or mountain bikes.

The type of bike you get can also depend on several factors, including what type of riding the child is doing. “Kids that are going to be riding off-road trails can benefit from a BMX-style or mountain bike—if they’re riding on trails, you might consider getting a smaller bike that has bigger tires,” Song says. He added that different types of bikes can also fit different budgets: “Parents should consider how much they really want to spend since kids are still growing.”

Our experts shared the most common types of kids’ bikes to consider below, including tricycles, balance bikes and two-wheeled bikes.

  • Tricycles are made for the youngest riders and are measured by wheel height and weight capacity.
  • Balance bikes , or “push bikes,” are designed without pedals to help your child get accustomed to balancing on a bike and steering.
  • Cruiser bikes are similar to typical two-wheeled commuter bikes for adults designed for low-intensity riding. Cruiser bikes for kids come with smaller frames and wheel sizes than those for adults, and most kids’ versions will come with coaster or foot brakes that stop when the rider pushes back on the pedals. If your child is new to biking, you can attach removable training wheels to help stabilize them. However, Dewey warns that training wheels don’t necessarily help your child become as comfortable with balancing on a bike as a balance bike would.
  • Mountain bikes and BMX bikes are two-wheeled bikes that are usually crafted for bigger kids who are riding on rougher, off-road trails. These types of bikes are typically more expensive, prioritize durability and come with thicker wheels to handle uneven terrain.

When shopping around for a bike, Dewey and Song recommend going to a local bike shop rather than a big-box retailer if you can. “Bike shops have better quality bikes that are going to be assembled better, and they have staff that can help with the fit of the bike,” says Dewey. She added that many bike shops will also allow you to trade in a bike and go up a size at a lower cost or at the same price point as the bike, which can benefit kids who are growing quickly.

Another top-10 finish gives Byeong Hun An spring in his step ahead of PGA Championship

Change Text Size

Korea’s Byeong Hun An will have a spring in his step and a hot putter in his bag as he prepares for a return to the PGA Championship, the year’s second major, at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, this week.

“My game felt good all week,” said An. “Hit it pretty solid, I drove the ball really well and that's what you need on this golf course. Putted pretty decent this week, putted actually pretty good. I saved a lot of pars out there. It wasn't playing easy as the scores (show). I mean, apart from Rory's, it's a pretty tough swing out there. But I'm very happy with my game. I had a shaky start, but I grinded my way through and I made some birdies on the way in.”

An, a former U.S. Amateur champion, can’t wait to return to the PGA Championship as it will be his first appearance in the tournament since 2021. The PGA Championship holds great significance for Asian golf as Korea’s Y.E. Yang emerged as the first male Asian golfer to win a major at the 2009 edition at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

With An’s putting, which has often been his Achilles heels previously, being on point these days where he ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting at Quail Hollow and gained nearly eight strokes against the field, he is feeling rather upbeat to test his game against the world’s best at Valhalla. “Yeah, a lot (of confidence). Every week, I feel like my game's there, just need some looks here and there, make some putts,” he said.

Byeong Hun An sends in 18-footer for birdie at Wells Fargo

“But putting definitely showed up this week. I like playing these type of golf courses. It's pretty tough, you've got to grind your way through and you can't really bail out on any of the shots. I also had a good finish last week, I've been playing well this season and this third place definitely helps.”

His solo third is off the back of a T4 outing in THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson last weekend, which extended an exciting run of form for An. He had lost his PGA TOUR card in 2021 before rebuilding his game under coach Sean Foley. While he is still seeking a first PGA TOUR win, his terrific form has seen him rise to sixth place in the FedExCup standings to solidify his bid to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs Finale, the TOUR Championship – which is exclusive to the top-30 – for the first time in his career.

Ranked a career-high 23rd in the world now, An is also a strong contender to qualify and represent Korea in the Paris Olympic Games in August and also make the International Team for the Presidents Cup against the U.S Team at Royal Montreal in Canada in September following a debut appearance at Royal Melbourne in Australia in 2019.
