Seeing Stonehenge was more impressive than I thought it would be, and we learned how the 5,000 year-old rocks have continued to confuse, enrage, and spark inspiration among countless people.

By the time we got back to the hotel, I was Googling just about everything I could about both of these amazing locations!

Secondly, unlike most Bath, England tours from London, this is a small group tour with a maximum of 16 passengers. This makes touring around a real pleasure – no wasting time waiting for fellow passengers and the tour allows for more personal contact with the tour guide. Thirdly, the itinerary is planned so that you’ll visit Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor Castle at their quietest periods of the day, avoiding the large groups of tourists on the major bus tours. The tour includes a guided tour of Stonehenge, entrance to the Roman Baths, a guided walking tour of Bath & a visit to Windsor Castle.

You’ll arrive in Bath at around 12:00 and from here on you’ll have the whole afternoon to explore the city, including its Abbey, Royal Crescent, Jane Austen Centre and more. The ticket includes entrance fees to the Roman Baths and a guided walking tour. The morning part of the tour is spent at Stonehenge, where you’ll get to see the stone circles and the tour comes with luxury transportation and a tour guide.

3. bath by train with entry to roman baths:

Possibly the cheapest way to get to Bath, England from London if you just want to visit Bath and don’t need a tour guide to show you around.  If you’re looking for the cheapest way to get to Bath from London then consider this option carefully. This is an unescorted tour, without a tour guide. It includes return train tickets from London and entrance to the Roman Baths. You’ll receive 08:30am departure train tickets from London Paddington and you’ll have an open return, meaning you decide when you want to come back to London. The price is £69 per adult, £65 per child.

(To work out if this option is cheaper than you just buying train tickets and entrance fees to Roman Baths by yourself, you’ll need to do a bit of arithmetic! For example, an adult entrance ticket to the Roman Baths costs between £15.50 to £17. Prices for train tickets in the UK can vary enormously by you can pay as much as £90 return! If that’s the case, it’s much cheaper to buy the all inclusive £69 ticket, which you can see on the link below. As a general rule, train tickets get more expensive the closer you get to your travel date.)

A comprehensive day out, the perfect Bath, England tour from London if you’re looking just to get a taster of the place, as part of a more overall overview of the English countryside. This is a real action packed tour and you’ll get to visit Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon and drive through the Cotswolds. Of course, since you visit so many places in one day, the amount of time that you get to spend in each attraction is limited. Bear in mind that you probably wouldn’t have time in Bath, England to view the Roman Baths. But it’s a great tour to get a feel of England. The tour starts at 7:45 am and returns at about 7pm, a long day out but well worth it!

St George’s Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day so you will not be able to enter the chapel. Access to St George’s Chapel may be limited on busy days and during service.

On Tuesday & Wednesday, Windsor Castle does not open. On these days we will still visit Windsor Town but entry to the Castle will not be possible. We will include entry to the Roman Baths instead, and then when in Windsor your guide will conduct a walking tour of this beautiful, historic town which will include photo opportunities of the Castle. Stonehenge is one of the UK’s most iconic and recognisable landmarks. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a unique structure that, for centuries, has been shrouded in mystery and mystique. 

Stonehenge was built in the late Neolithic period, around 5,000 years ago. It is believed that the site was built, altered and added to over 1000 years. 

Stonehenge consists of an outer circle of 30 standing stones (sarsens)  plus a smaller inner circle of stones called ‘bluestones’, all surrounded by a circular ditch. There are also four station stones. 

The stones are believed to have been transported 240 kilometres from southwest Wales by sledge or boat. The largest stone stands 8.71 metres tall (though 2.13 metres of it is underground), whilst the Heel Stone is estimated to weigh 30 tonnes. 

It is thought that Stonehenge was built to help tell the time of the year. On the summer solstice, the sun rises ‘through’ the Heel Stone; on the winter solstice, the sun sets through the Heel Stone.

A visit to Windsor Castle is a must for Royal family fans.  Perched high above the River Thames, just outside of London, at Windsor Castle, visitors can uncover over 900 years of royal history. 

Once the home to Queen Elizabeth II and many other noble kings and queens, visitors to Windsor Castle can enjoy the spectacular State Apartments and marvel at its lavishly furnished surroundings. Visit St. George’s Chapel, where the tombs of numerous kings and queens reside, notably Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.  See Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and be amazed by the magnitude and intricate design of the world’s most famous Dolls’ House.

Please note that Windsor Castle is only open Thursday through to Monday – so if wanting to visit, ensure you choose a tour for one of these days.

If you’re after cheap day tours to Stonehenge and Bath , Anderson Tours offers the cheapest tickets, including entry into Stonehenge and the Roman Baths.

These Bath and Stonehenge tours from London start at a meeting point just outside Earls Court Station at around 9 am.  It’s then a 2 hour drive to Stonehenge – where you’ll have about 90 minutes to explore the site.  Entry to Stonehenge is included.

Next up, you’ll head to Bath, where you’ll have a short guided sightseeing bus tour – to help get your bearings on the city.  Then you’ll have around 3 hours to explore on your own – which is heaps of time if you do want to pay for your own entry ticket into the Roman Baths.

This tour is similar to the previous tour but includes lunch at an old traditional English country pub in Lacock.  The only downside is that it’s just one more stop on the day trip, eating into your time at the other stops.

The tour departs from Victoria Coach station at 7.45, and then it’s a 90 minute drive to Windsor Castle, the first stop en route.  You’ll have a few hours to explore Windsor Castle – with entry included in your ticket.

Next, it’s on Bath, where you’ll have a guided tour of the city, followed by an hour of free time.  You might be able to squeeze in a visit to the Roman Baths –  but this will be at an additional cost.

The temperatures could reach 104 degrees, and many believed the baths healed ailments. Today, the famous Roman Baths are a magnificent site and one of our favorite memories of our latest trip to England. We took the audio guide, which comes with a kid option that my boys loved. You can enjoy a meal in the Pump Room restaurant too. Ticket prices are very affordable.
• Georgian Architecture- Bath is a beautiful example of Georgia architecture in the UK. In particular, you must see the Royal Crescent, a row of 30 houses in a crescent shape, one of the most photographed spots in town. 
• Jane Austen Centre- If you love the work of Jane Austen, then make time to visit the Jane Austen Centre, which highlights her work and personal life.
• Pulteney Bridge-Check out the scenic Pulteney bridge over the River Avon built in 1774 in the Palladian style. If you have free time, try to see this majestic structure.
• Holburne Museum-Located in a stunning building, the Holburne Museum was the city’s first art museum.

You can travel to Bath independently for more time or to save money. Luckily, direct trains from Paddington Station arrive at the Bath Spa train Station stop, which is centrally located near the famous sites. The route is about an hour and 15 minutes with affordable rates. 

A train ride would relieve much driving stress but limit you to only Bath. Several train lines provide service, but Great Western Trains is commonly used. 

Pro tip: Buying your ticket 30 days or more in advance is cheaper than waiting till the week before your trip.

Tips for your Bath Tour

• In the combo tours, confirm Windsor Castle is open to the public for your chosen day. If not, some tours will provide time to explore the town of Windsor.
• Strollers or pushchairs aren’t allowed in the Baths. You must bring a baby carrier if you have a little one. 
• Book your tickets for a tour in advance, as Bath is a popular destination. 
• ​The city center and main attractions are very busy in the late afternoon. Be prepared for crows. Going in the morning is a great way to avoid large crowds.
• ​To escape the crowds, consider having afternoon tea if you are doing the city at your own pace and not a tour.

How to get from London to Bath

• At-a-glance: Train from London Paddington to Bath Spa train station (1 hour & 20 min); 2 trains per hour

Getting from London to Bath – and of course back from Bath Spa to London Paddington – involves a journey time of approximately one hour and 20 minutes each way. So you’re looking at two hours and 40 minutes of travel to get there and back to the capital. 

Don’t forget that you’ll probably need to take a tube from wherever you’re staying to Paddington as well – and the same when you return. Paddington tube station is on the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines and lies some way north of Hyde Park.

Trains from London to Bath and Bath to London call at several places en route – these are Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon and Chippenham. None of these are of particular interest to tourists – unless of course, you happen to have family or friends living there.

The good news for those travelling by train is that Bath Spa station is centrally located in the city, fairly close to key sites like Pulteney bridge, the Thermae Bath Spa and the Roman Baths. The Jane Austen Centre, Royal Crescent and Fashion Museum are a little further away, but can be reached on foot if you don’t mind an uphill walk.

Another option is the coaches to Bath from London Victoria. It’s a fairly convenient way to travel, but it is also very time-consuming. The fastest coaches take almost twice as long as the train, and some take much longer if they make a lot of stops or there’s more traffic on the roads. 

On the plus side, tickets are cheap and the bus station is also located in central Bath; in fact it’s near the train station. National Express says the average journey time each way is 2 hours and 50 minutes, however, so it’s not the best choice for those in a hurry.

You’ll also need to factor in the time it will take to get to and from Victoria coach station. The underground station is on the District, Victoria and Circle lines, and the coach station is about 300 metres from here.

If you want to drive rather than taking a coach or train from London Victoria or London Paddington to Bath Spa, then expect your journey each way to take around two to two-and-a-half hours. 

You’ll also need to consider parking in Bath . There are sufficient car parks, but due to narrow streets it’s not the easiest city to negotiate behind the wheel. Parking fees vary but will have to be added to your budget on top of any gas and car rental costs.

For experienced drivers, taking the car is certainly an option but it’s not the quickest or cheapest way to get to Bath from London (nor the best way to get to Bath from London in our opinion). It’s not really practical to drive around the city once you’re there, so it will mean paying to leave your vehicle in a car park all day.

One of the cotswolds' most beautiful villages is castle combe. situated on the southern edge of the cotswolds just 12 miles from bath, castle combe has many times been rated the "prettiest village in england"..

Dating back to the 13th century and once a weaving town, the village sits in the lush green valley of the River Bybrook. Only accessible on some of the local backroads, no big bus tours of the Cotswolds from London can visit so we will certainly be avoiding the crowds. Lined with characterful old houses and cottages built in the rich brown local Cotswolds stone, enjoy the peace and tranquillity and opportunity to take some beautiful photographs depicting typical Cotswolds life. Our first pick up is on the corner of Belvedere Road and Chicheley Street, SE1 7PB. This is the bus pick up and drop off point for the London Eye (see departure point page here) This is in the Waterloo area and a short walk from both Waterloo and Westminster Stations. Your bus and guide will normally arrive 5-10 minutes before departure. Look out for a small white Mercedes Benz bus with “The English Bus” written on the side. A prompt departure is essential so please arrive in plenty of time.

Outside the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London Victoria, at 2 Bridge Place, SW1V 1QA (see departure point page here) This is a very short walk from Victoria Station. Take exit 1 from the main railway station and turn right. Please be waiting outside the hotel, we will stop to pick you up as close to the hotel entrance as we can.

After we have picked everyone up, and you are sat comfortably, your driver/guide will introduce themselves, and explain the plan for your day. Your guide will provide full commentary on our interesting route out of London, passing some major landmarks on our way. We will make a quick bathroom/coffee/snack stop on request - you are more than welcome to eat and drink on the bus as we travel

Our first stop is the magnificent prehistoric site of Stonehenge. Dating back over 5000 years, this is likely to be the oldest man made site that you will ever visit in your lifetime.

Before your arrival, your guide will discuss some of the facts & theories surrounding this world famous mysterious stone circle in preparation for our arrival, so you have a good understanding of what you’re seeing.

There’ll be plenty of time to take some wonderful pictures, listen to the audio-guide and visit the gift shop, cafe and the new visitor centre. Your guide will be very interested to hear your thoughts, will answer questions about Stonehenge and tell you some of the more weird and wonderful stories you wouldn't otherwise have heard.

Following your visit to Stonehenge, we'll begin making our way through the countryside to the UNESCO world heritage city of Bath. We’ll drive through some quintessential English villages and take back roads to give you a taste of real rural England. You will get some fantastic views of the countryside. Your guide will point out traditional English houses and talk about English country life.

On arrival we’ll drop you off in Bath city centre with some recommendations of places to eat and drink and sights to see. Perhaps you might choose a typical English pub or cafe, or a quick and tasty pasty - a special type of local pie, perhaps washed down with a glass of famous local cider? Your guide will be on hand to advise what might be best for you. We'll also provide a handy map of Bath for you too.

After lunch your guide will offer you an optional guided walking tour of Bath, focusing on the history and highlights of the city, and the different incarnations of the baths through the ages - from the Celts, the Romans, the Georgians to the present day. You’ll have plenty of free time to explore the city that inspired Charles Dickens and Jane Austen at your leisure before a panoramic driving tour on our route out to show you Bath’s finest streets including the best of all - The Royal Crescent.

Leaving the beautiful city of Bath behind, we'll head north east through the rolling hills of Somerset. Passing through some more quintessential English villages and into the southern Cotswolds - probably England's best known area of countryside we'll arrive in Castle Combe - around 35 minutes after leaving the city of Bath.

** Please note that we may operate this tour in reverse and visit Castle Combe at the start of the day, after our visits to Stonehenge and Bath - this is dependant on traffic and Stonehenge operating hours. Either way we will still spend the same amount of time in the Cotswolds**

Meandering along some scenic tree and hedgerow lined back routes beyond Bath, we arrive in the stunning village of Castle Combe. Before our arrival, your guide will tell you all about the village and what there is to see and do, before we drop of off to explore on foot. Wander down the charming main street admiring the Cotswolds beauty, perhaps stop for a cup of tea and a scone, or a drink in one of the historic pubs. Visit Castle Combe's 13th century church and get some beautiful pictures of one of England's most beautiful villages.

Dependent on traffic, we’ll get back to London between approximately 8.00pm - 8.30pm. Your guide will plan the route into London based on where you all want to go, and will endeavour to get you as close as possible to your destination. If there is a more convenient point to depart the tour along our route through London then we can certainly make a stop for you. We will also always return to the areas you started the tour, if this is your best option. Speak with your guide so they can make sure you know exactly how to get to where you need to get to - they can advise where the best place to depart the tour would be.

We may alter the order of the day depending on traffic/weather/special events in order to maximise your enjoyment of the day. Due to shorter daylight hours in the Winter, this tour runs mid March - late October.
