WHY THE NASHVILLE BAR BIKE?

Nashville’s most affordable 15-person beer bike offers the ultimate pub crawl experience for your vacation. Pedal your bicycle bar along the best sights and taverns on Broadway and Music Row. This group tour is perfect for birthday celebrations, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate outings, and team building exercises.

Our tour is not just grinding gears and turning sprockets, it is a BYOB party on wheels. We provide the driver, ice, cooler, plastic cups, and premium sound system for all your favorite contemporary and country music. Pedaling is not required for all participants, as the bike features an electric motor. The motor keeps the bike from crawler speed, but does not turn the vehicle into a rocket. Expect a stop at one of the city’s famed clubs or dive bars.

We start by offering over 58 ride times per day, a downtown location for easy pick-up and drop-off, a dedicated driver, an experienced bartender, a premium sound system, an electric assist motor, LED party lights and overall the best party on wheels.

  • Chevron down How does this work? How do I book?

BOOK YOUR RIDE ONLINE!

Online bookings only, sorry, no phone bookings! Our calendar is LIVE so you’ll only see the latest availability. (We CANNOT take a reservation via email, and we cannot provide availability through email either.)

Show up & Buy drinks at our location!

Ice and coolers are on us while your bartender actively pours. Our experienced staff uses the onboard sound system to pump their custom music playlist from start to finish all while keeping you safe on the roads. We are a party bike! So we make ONE stop in the middle of the ride to let you stretch your legs, use the bathroom, etc., then keep the party going on the bike. Pedal. Party. Drink. Repeat.

  • Chevron down How many people can ride? What if I have more or less?

MINIMUM = 6 PEOPLE / MAXIMUM = 15 PEOPLE

There are six bikes seats on each side (two wheel well seats don’t pedal) and four people fit along the backbench. Seating type on a public ride is NOT guaranteed. Our staff sits you accordingly. If you have less than six people, you can still book a public tour and we’ll put people together to fill your bike and make you new friends!

If you’ve booked less than six people there is a chance your ride won’t go out. If this does happen, we will contact you and either reschedule you OR give you a full refund.

HAVE MORE THAN 15 PEOPLE?

No problem! Just book more than one bike! Private rides of more than one bike are NOT guaranteed to leave at the same time, but we will do our best to accommodate!

  • Chevron down What should I bring? Where can I buy drinks?

No need to bring ice, coolers, or drinks. We have you covered. We have beer and seltzers for pre-order during booking or on location at our check-in counter. Due to city regulations only beer and seltzers are allowed on the party bike. NO GLASS, LIQUOR OR WINE IS ALLOWED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

CASH & I.D.

You MUST be 21 to ride! Tennessee State Law says you MUST show us your ID! Everyone must carry an ID with them at all times. Yes, even grandma must have hers!

Our bikes have storage bins up top just like an airplane, only smaller. We can store purses, wallets, small bags, umbrellas, cell phones, etc. Large coolers and suitcases will not fit on our bikes.

YOUR WAIVER

We have electronic waivers which means your waiver can be done online from a computer or your cell phone. You do NOT have to print your waiver and bring it with you.

  • Chevron down Do we really have to pedal?

WELL, HECK YEA!

70% of the power we need to run is provided by YOU! The remaining 30% of the power is supplied by our bike’s unique electric assist motor.

Sprocket Rocket is not only the best Party Bike and Tavern Tour in Nashville, but also the easiest to pedal! That 30% boost is a game-changer, allowing us to pedal for longer than any other pedal bike downtown!

What a fun time! I wasn't overly excited about it going in but my wife and I wanted to try it and I am so glad we did. Our driver Gentry was very engaging and turned out to be a top notch DJ while Gabby tended the bar and kept the dance party going down Broadway and all around. 5 stars and will do it again when we go back with friends. The pedaling was easy (motor assisted) and all around an amazing time.

a close up of a wheel

So Fun! Josh and Caitlyn were the absolute best and kept the energy and fun going! Great music and laughing not to mention FREEZING! We were there on the coldest night and had scheduled a 9:45PM ride. We are 4 boomer women; bundled up pedaled laughed singing to great music and everyone on the street were yeehawing and waving. The time flew by because of Josh and Caitlyn were the best hosts! Highly recommend this activity to see the lights and people. Would definitely do it again!

Such a fun time! Laughed the entire time! We had the best driver in Mike and the greatest bartender in Tracy. The music they played and the energy they had made the whole experience so much better! Biking was easy as it is assisted. Something to keep in mind is that at some point on weekend nights they close off Broadway to vehicles. Glad we took the 5:55 tour as Broadway was still open. If we picked an evening tour, wouldn’t have been able to pedal down Broadway which was so fun!

Definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Nashville. From check in to the final drop off, everything went super smooth, our group could not have been happier. What really made this ride so much fun was our driver and bartender. Dom and Caroline really did a great job keeping the party going. From the stellar playlists, to the impressive dance moves, they made sure everyone was having a great time. I would highly recommend this tour.

This was our first time doing a bike bar tour and it went beyond our expectations!! The driver Dominic was awesome and hilarious and Caroline was fantastic with her dance moves! The music choice really made the ride exciting and everyone was having a blast!! Would highly recommend them and can’t wait to do it again!!!

These pedal taverns are always fun, but this time, thanks to Andrew and Caroline we had an amazing experience. They had the best, most friendly energy. Andrew was a great driver and party captain and Caroline has dance moves unmatched. Together they were quite the team! And as the pregnant sober one on the trip, the fact I had that much fun drinking water is a testament to how great they are!

Reserve a private pedal tavern party or grab seats on a guided bike bar crawl today — and don’t forget your party decorations and  favorite adult beverages from our convenient on-site store!

Choose Your Booking Option Below

The Scottsdale pedal tavern holds up to 14 people for private parties. For groups that need more than one bar bike or extended time, please give us a call. We have 14 party bikes available for large groups up to 196 people. Smaller groups can book individual seats on the Old Town Pub Crawl!

What To Bring

One of the funnest parts of the party bike experience is that you can actually enjoy your adult beverages on board! But don’t let forgetting a couple of things dampen the experience.

Below are the supplies we recommend bringing with you, along with a few things we can’t have on board.

What To Bring:

  • Pre-order your booze and party supplies online
  • Water to stay hydrated
  • Snacks if desired
  • Party decorations
  • A desire for fun and absurdity
  • Note that all of the above are also available in our on-site store, so no need to stress!

Do Not Bring:

  • No outside alcohol allowed due to our liquor license. A full array of beer, wine, seltzers and other drinks are available at our on-site booze store to bring on board the bike! You can also pre-order online for pick-up when you arrive.
  • Glass containers
  • Coolers, ice, or cups. We’ve got you covered on all of those already!

Can I drink alcohol on board the party bike?

You may enjoy alcoholic beverages on board the party bike! However, please note that our licensing and permits are different in each city. Please see below for what is allowed and not allowed at each location.

Scottsdale You may have adult beverages on board the bike, but due to our licensing we cannot have any outside alcohol on the premises .

We have a great selection of beer, wine, seltzers and more are available for purchase at our convenient on-site booze store! You can also pre-order on our online store (Scottsdale only) to have it available for pick-up when you arrive.

Everything we sell is allowed to be brought on board the bike for consumption and comes ready with free coolers, ice, and cups. Any unopened drinks can be brought home with you at the end of the party!

Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff You may bring your adult beverages on board the bike, but all alcohol is BYOB — we cannot have it conveniently available for you. However, we will still have free coolers, ice, and cups for you! Please observe the following laws when bringing your own alcohol on board the bikes in Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff:

  • Beer and wine only. Seltzers, hard ciders, lemonades, and malt beverages are OK!
  • No glass or hard liquor on board. We recommend cans for everything.
  • All alcoholic beverages are BYOB. We cannot provide or sell alcohol.
  • Do not step off board the vehicle with an open container as you will be in violation of public consumption laws and may be cited. All alcoholic beverages must stay on the vehicle!
  • You can bring home any unopened drinks at the end of the party.

DO NOT arrive for your party in any city already intoxicated or service may be refused without a refund. We aim to provide an amazing time, but your safety and legality is our #1 priority!

Can I order my alcohol, snacks, merch, etc ahead of time?

It depends!

In Scottsdale, our licensing allows us to have a full selection of beer, wine, seltzers and more available for purchase at our convenient on-site booze store for your party bike adventure — We recommend you pre-order online so it is ready for you when you arrive! We also have a wide selection of drinks, snacks, party supplies, and other merch available for purchase on-site and online pre-order.

In Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff,  our licensing only allows for BYOB and we do not have a storefront in those locations.

When should we arrive for our reservation?

In Scottsdale,  please arrive to our location 30 minutes prior to your start time to ensure that we can check you in, verify waivers, purchase any party supplies and adult beverages you may need, go over the rules, and get loaded up to start your party on time. To save some time, you can pre-order your adult beverages and party supplies online (Scottsdale only) so they are ready for pick-up when you arrive.

In Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff, please no later than 20 minutes prior to your start time to ensure we can check you in, verify waivers, get loaded up, and go over the rules to get the party started on time. No alcohol is available for purchase in these cities; it is strictly BYOB.

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WAIVERS COMPLETED IN ADVANCE, OTHERWISE YOUR START TIME MAY BE DELAYED. Click here to view and sign the waiver .

Reservations are for the time slot booked. Since we run our parties back to back, private parties that get started late will still finish at the stated end time.

Pub crawls will start and end at the time specified. We cannot wait for stragglers as it is unfair to everyone who showed up on time, and the ticket price will not be refunded. We will attempt to have you meet us at the first bar stop instead if you are running late.

What should we bring with us?

One of the funnest parts of the party bike experience is that you can actually enjoy your adult beverages on board! But don’t let forgetting a couple of things dampen the experience. Please note the different rules in each city below regarding alcohol in particular, which varies because of our licensing and permits:

Who drives the party bike?

Have no fear, an experienced and trained Party Bike Captain will drive the bike and keep things safe, legal, and fun so your group can focus on partying!

Should we tip the captain?

Your Party Bike Captains do work for tips and aim to provide an excellent experience for our guests! You can either add a tip in advance when making your booking, give your captain cash, or let us know to add it to the credit card on file after the party. Many of them also have Venmo or other convenient cashless options! It is always greatly appreciated for a job well done!

Is there music on board?

Yes! We have a rocking sound system and LED lights for the perfect party ambiance. Our tablet that hooks up to the system is full of music from every genre with tons of songs and playlist options for you to choose. Make sure to bring a good DJ!

How many people can ride?

We can fit a maximum of 14 passengers on board the bike, but require a minimum of six people to pedal the party bike. Non-private parties and pub crawls (based on individual tickets) are tentative until we have the minimum number of riders. There are a total of 10 pedaling seats and 4 non-pedaling seats. So if you have someone in your group that can’t pedal, no problem!

We will notify you 24 hours in advance if the reservation cannot be confirmed and will issue a refund if that is the case. We recommend being flexible with the time so that we can pair you up with other groups to reach the minimum needed! Individuals or groups that are too small to be confirmed MAY be bumped to another time in favor of a confirmed private party and we will notify you if that occurs. In that case, you will have the option of getting a refund or changing times.

Is there an age requirement?

Pub Crawl Age Requirement The minimum age for all parties booked by individual seat involving alcohol, including pub crawls, is 21 years of age or older. Riders must present valid ID to the captain when signing the release waiver before the start of the booking. Nobody under 21 is allowed on board a pub crawl.

Private Party Age Requirements Private parties may have people under the age of 21 on board, typically for family events and teenage birthdays. If alcohol is involved, the people under 21 may not consume alcohol, must wear a wristband, cannot enter any bars, and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (NOTE: this does not mean an older sister who is not a legal guardian). If at any time a minor is suspected of consuming alcohol by the captain, the entire reservation will be immediately terminated, no refund will be issued, and a $100 early termination fee will be charged.

Infants and children who require a car seat or booster seat, typically under the age of 8, will not be allowed on board the party bike. Children above the age of 8 but under the age of 12 may be required to sit on the back bench with the seat belt on next to an adult.

Where do we start and end?

Our locations are very close to where the parties and pub crawls operates. The exact location / meeting spot for the parties in each city are included in the confirmation email that you will receive after making your reservation.

In general, all reservations begin and end at our location unless indicated otherwise. For example, the Old Town Pub Crawl in Scottsdale ends at the final bar, which is near our location. Please check the itinerary of the service you are booking for specific details.

Can my group sign the rider waiver in advance?

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WAIVERS COMPLETED IN ADVANCE, OTHERWISE YOUR START TIME MAY BE DELAYED. Click here to view and sign the waiver . You may send this link to your party ahead of time so that they may complete their waivers, as well.

Upon completion, you will receive a verification email that your waiver is complete. Please have your photo ID ready at check-in to verify that your waiver has been completed.

Where can we take the party bike and how long is each stop?

Private parties can take the party bike to any stop that they want to go to in our operating area! If you have a few favorite bars, just let the captain know where to go. Want to try something new? Ask the captain for a recommendation! Most groups can make it to up to three stops with about 25 minutes at each stop.

Pub crawls with multiple groups on board have a set itinerary of three bar stops that cannot be changed.

Is it really pedal powered?

Yes! While you do have to pedal to make the bike move, the bike is equipped with an electric assist motor to help the riders. It’s a lot easier than it looks!

Do I need a reservation to ride?

Yes! We run based on reservations only, which you can make through our online booking system or by calling us. We recommend planning ahead as we are often booked in advance for popular weekend time slots!

Reserving a private group party requires a 50% non-refundable down payment with the remaining balance charged to the card on file 14 days before the booked date.

Parties booked by individual seat such as pub crawls require payment of the full amount at the time of reservation.

How long is the reservation?

Reservations are typically for two hour intervals unless otherwise specified or additional time is purchased. Time customization can sometimes be done with large company groups or Sunday – Thursday by request.

In Scottsdale, please arrive to our location 30 minutes prior to your start time to ensure that we can check you in, verify waivers, purchase any party supplies and adult beverages you may need, go over the rules, and get loaded up to start your party on time.

I didn’t receive an email after making my reservation. Help!

Never fear! Just give us a call and we will verify that we have the correct email address on file to send you a new one.

My reservation email says “pending” or “on hold”. What does that mean?

If your reservation email says Confirmed , no further action on your part is necessary.

Reservation emails that say Pending either still require payment in order to be confirmed or have not reached the minimum number of riders to be confirmed.

Please note that pending reservations are NOT confirmed until you receive an email specifying that you are confirmed. Individuals or groups that are too small to be confirmed MAY need to be moved to another time in favor of a confirmed private party, and we will notify you if that occurs. In that case, you will have the option of changing times or getting a refund.

For smaller groups, we recommend being flexible with your reservation time, as often we can pair up small groups together at a different time in order to make the party happen!

On Hold emails mean you have joined a waiting list and the time slot is not yet available. All customers with pending and on hold bookings will be notified 24 hours before the start time as to whether or not their booking is confirmed.

Can I cancel or change my reservation?

You may call or email us to cancel your reservation up to 14 days before your reservation date and receive a full refund. You may call or email us to reschedule your reservation date, subject to availability, up to 14 days before your reservation date.

We cannot cancel or reschedule less than 14 days from the reservation date. Any payments made will be forfeited in the case of cancellation within 14 days of the reservation date and any balances owed will still be charged 14 days prior to the booked date.

If your reservation is rescheduled, we cannot reschedule or cancel a second time. These bookings will still be charged the full amount. Make sure to cancel or reschedule in advance if you need to!

Reservations utilizing three or more bikes must pay a 50% non-refundable down payment to hold each bike. This amount will not be refunded at any point if bikes are cancelled. Full payment will be due 14 days in advance and is non-refundable.

If you are making a cancellation or rescheduling request, please send us an email by replying to your confirmation email that you received.

What is the weather policy?

We ride rain or shine, but for safety we cancel if there is lightning or other severe weather. Don’t worry — you won’t be pedaling around in a monsoon! If we have to cancel the reservation based on severe weather conditions, you will receive a 100% refund or rain check for another date.

Please dress appropriately for predicted weather conditions. Weather cancellations are not made until right before your reservation’s scheduled start time, as weather can be unpredictable.

What should I wear?

Please dress appropriately for predicted weather conditions. We do recommend closed-toed shoes for comfort and to minimize your personal risk of injury, though it is not required. We also recommend not wearing high heels or long, flowing dresses!

Someone in my group can’t pedal. Can they still ride?

There are a total of 10 pedaling seats and 4 non-pedaling seats, including a back bench that fits two people. So if you have someone in your group that can’t pedal, no problem!

Alcohol Policy

You may enjoy alcoholic beverages on board the party bike! However, please note that our licensing and permits are different in each city. Please see below for what is allowed and not allowed at each location:

Scottsdale You may have adult beverages on board the bike purchased from our booze store, but due to our licensing we cannot have any outside alcohol on the premises .

Everything we sell is allowed to be brought on board the bike for consumption and comes ready with free coolers, ice, and cups. Also, any unopened beverages may be brought home with you!

Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff You may bring your adult beverages on board the bike, but all alcohol is BYOB — we cannot have it conveniently available for you. However, we will still have free coolers, ice, and cups for you! Please observe the following laws when bringing your own alcohol on board the bikes in Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff:

DO NOT arrive for your party in any city already intoxicated or service may be refused without a refund.  We aim to provide an amazing time, but your safety and legality is our #1 priority!

Participant Waiver

All participants must provide a valid photo ID at the time of the reservation and sign a rider waiver. You can send this link to the rest of your party for them to have it completed ahead of time, as well.

A maximum of 14 guests are allowed on the bike. All guests must be seated with seat belts on at all times.

Weather Policy

We ride rain or shine, but for safety we cancel if there is lightning or other severe weather. Don’t worry — you won’t be pedaling around in a monsoon! If we have to cancel the party based on severe weather conditions, you will receive a 100% refund or rain check for another date.

Weather cancellations are not made until right before your party’s scheduled start time, as weather can be unpredictable.

For light rain and showers, we will provide ponchos for your group free of charge!

Inappropriate Behavior Termination

Inappropriate behavior by participants will result in termination of the party for the entire group. Your party bike captain has sole discretion on terminating a party for misbehavior. Groups who have their party terminated for any reason will not receive a refund and will incur a $100 early termination penalty fee.

These behaviors include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Being physically or verbally abusive or disrespectful to your party captain.
  • Excessive intoxication — do not show up already intoxicated or you will be denied service without a refund!
  • Do not become excessively intoxicated along the way or you will be removed. Pace yourself!
  • Removing open containers of alcohol from the bike onto the street
  • Bringing alcohol off-premises from the bar stops
  • Providing alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 or on the street
  • Bringing glass or hard liquor on board in violation of local ordinances
  • Jumping off the vehicle while it is in motion or in traffic
  • Using vulgar language at pedestrians, the police, or other drivers
  • Standing or hanging on the bike (you must stay seated when moving with your seat belt on)
  • Any other inappropriate behavior or violation of local, state and federal laws

Remember—Your party bike captain is in charge and must be respected at all times! Make sure to have a good time, but use common sense and obey the rules!

New York City TD Five Boro Bike Tour 2022

More than 32,000 participants and thousands of spectators will descend upon New York City on Sunday, May 5, for the TD NYC Five Boro Bike Tour. (Staten Island Advance)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 32,000 participants and thousands of spectators will descend upon New York City on Sunday, May 5, for the TD NYC Five Boro Bike Tour.

The event is billed as the largest charity bike ride in the world, with participants riding through all five boroughs of the city and crossing five major bridges as part of their 40-mile journey, including the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge , before completing their journey in Fort Wadsworth.

Registration is now closed for the event, which, since 1977 has brought together cyclists from all walks of life and skill levels for an opportunity to experience New York completely free of cars annually.

“For the 46th year in a row, the TD Five Boro Bike Tour will provide cyclists from around the world the opportunity to ride through New York City’s five boroughs completely car free,” said Ken Podziba, CEO and president of Bike New York, the race’s nonprofit organizer. “This tour is especially important to us at Bike New York because each year it helps provide the funding and visibility we need to bring the joy of biking to New Yorkers.”

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is the primary fundraising event for Bike New York, a nonprofit committed to empowering New Yorkers to transform their lives and their communities through cycling. Proceeds from the event directly help to fund free public bike education and access programs for more than 30,000 adults and kids throughout the five boroughs, according to Bike New York.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 TD Five Boro Bike Tour.

WHEN WILL IT TAKE PLACE?

The event will take place on Sunday, May 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WHAT IS THE ROUTE?

The 40-mile tour spans the city’s five boroughs, beginning in Lower Manhattan and traveling north into the Bronx, before heading to Queens, Brooklyn and ultimately, crossing the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and concluding in St. George near the Staten Island Ferry.

Click here to view a map of the route.

STREET CLOSURES

To accommodate the final leg of the tour, the Department of Transportation has announced that the following Staten Island streets will be closed on Sunday, at the discretion of the NYPD:

  • Bay Street between New York Avenue and Hylan Boulevard
  • Hylan Boulevard between Bay Street and Edgewater Street
  • Edgewater Street/ Front Street between Hylan Boulevard and Hannah Street
  • Hannah Street between Front Street and Bay Street
  • Bay Street between Hannah Street and Richmond Terrace
  • Richmond Terrace between Bay Street and Nicholas Street Wall Street between Richmond Terrace and dead end

Due to the event, part of the Verrazzano Bridge will be closed for the majority of the day on Sunday.

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the bridge will be closed from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The Bay Street exit near the bridge will also be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Staten Island-bound upper level of the Verrazzano will remain open during the event, and is accessible from 92nd Street and the Belt Parkway entrance ramps.

Drivers are advised that closure times are subject to change and delays are expected.

STATEN ISLAND FERRY INFORMATION

The Staten Island Ferry will provide 30-minute service from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday. After that, the boat will run on a 15-minute schedule from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ferry will then return to its regularly scheduled 30-minute service from 6 p.m. onward.

Bike New York, organizers of the Five Boro Bike Tour, noted that lines to take the ferry back to Manhattan could be long starting from the early afternoon.

All cyclists must board the boat on the lower level at both the Whitehall Terminal in Manhattan and the St. George Terminal, located at 1 Bay St. on Staten Island.

Riders must dismount and walk their bicycle while in the waiting area and when boarding and departing the boat. Riding on and off the boat is prohibited.

All bicycles must be stored in the designated area on the lower level of each vessel.

WILL PARTICIPANTS BE CHARGED A BRIDGE TOLL?

According to a source at Bike New York with knowledge of the situation, there has been no communication issued regarding riders possibly having to pay the toll for use of the bridge -- but the MTA had asked the non-profit to pay for the lost toll revenue starting next year, so the 2024 Five Boro Bike Tour would be unaffected.

Streets throughout the city will be closed that day along the route, and parking will be difficult for participants and spectators, who are advised to park their car on Staten Island for easy access by ferry to the Bowling Green start in Manhattan.

It’ll also be convenient for cyclists, who won’t have to travel far to their car at the end of the race.

Paid parking in lots at the Staten Island Ferry in St. George are limited, due to ongoing construction, but there are several municipal lots nearby.

Another option would be to park near a Staten Island Railway station a few stops from the Staten Island Ferry. This is a good way to find free parking. Simply hop on the Staten Island Railway, head to the ferry, and off you go to the race start. Bikes are permitted on the train.

Paid Parking

Hours: 24/7

Cost: $25/day

Note: The Empire Outlets garage will be accessible for parking only until 8:30 a.m. on Tour day.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: $12/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash or credit card (no debit card)

Cost: $15/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash, credit, or debit card.

Cars that park without checking in with an attendant are subject to being booted. Riders must comply with all posted rules and regulations.

Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants parking at South Beach can cycle to the Staten Island Ferry in order to get to the Start Area in lower Manhattan.

MTA Staten Island Railway

Cyclists may find luck parking on local streets near any stop, or in a free Staten Island Railway Park-and-Ride at Dongan Hills, Great Kills, Annadale, Prince’s Bay or Huguenot stations. Municipal parking lots are also available at Great Kills and Stapleton stations.

From there, participants and fans can easily then hop on a train to the Staten Island Ferry.

Bicycles will be allowed on the trains, and you can board at any Staten Island Railway station.

MetroCard fares are collected as you enter and exit at the St. George and Tompkinsville stations. Visit www.mta.info or dial 511 for more information.

WEATHER ON RACE DAY

Showers are expected to sweep into the New York City area Sunday morning and linger throughout the day, according to Bryan Ramsey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). At this time, the showers are expected to drop around half an inch of rain across the city, but that figure is subject to change.

“It’s going to start Sunday morning and last until the early night hours, because we’ll have kind of a slow-moving system,” Ramsey said. “So, the rain will kind of come and go throughout the day. The afternoon hours is when the rain is expected to be at its most persistent.”

While the frontal system looks to bring periods of rainfall, the good news is that cyclists won’t have to worry about dodging bolts of lightning; Ramsey forecasts that the frontal system will only feature showers.

Five Boro Bike Tour takes over NYC. Here's why over 32,000 cyclists from around the world rode 40 miles.

By Kristie Keleshian , Zinnia Maldonado

Updated on: May 5, 2024 / 8:59 PM EDT / CBS New York

NEW YORK --  New York City's Five Boro Bike Tour is the largest charitable bike ride in the United States. It starts in Manhattan, then covers 40 miles across the five boroughs to end on Staten Island.

Five Boro Bike Tour route map

untitled-design.png

The first wave of cyclists started at 7:30 a.m. from the intersection of Franklin and Church Street in Tribeca. The last wave left at 10:25 a.m.

The route then heads up into the Bronx, over to Queens, back down to Brooklyn and ends at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, where riders can then catch a ferry back to Manhattan.

"It's 40 miles and I enjoy every minute of it," said Anthony Maynard, from Columbia, South Carolina.

"It was a great destination and it was a tour, not a race, so we thought that it would be a first thing for us. We are not cyclists, so we've trained some," Nichole Muller, of Texas, said at the starting line.

Many riders arrived Saturday to pick up their bibs and to attend the annual blessing of the bikes.

"One of the reasons people come here, certainly not the only reason, but one of the reasons is people are aware of how dangerous this is, riding a bike in New York, and they come to pray for their own safety and ask us to pray with them for their own safety," said Patrick Malloy, Dean of Cathedral St. Catherine of the Divine.

There is no official end time, but most riders should be done by the evening.

"We're riding a tandem bike together, so that will be interesting just to take it to another level. We practiced yesterday in Central Park, we're good New York, we're good," added Meredith Mitsifer, of Arizona. "This is going to be amazing, I can't wait to see New York in a whole different way."

Cycling for a cause

The Five Boro Bike Tour represents all ages and abilities.

"It feels like a microcosm of the world," said Bike New York President and CEO Ken Podziba.

More than 32,000 cyclists take part in the charity ride, which raises money for Bike New York's free bike education programs. The nonprofit teaches children and adults how to ride, as well as bike safety.

"I'm riding on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation," said Steve Shiffman, whose wife has cystic fibrosis.

"We wanted to bring awareness to ovarian cancer," said Nicole Moler, with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in Dallas, Texas.

Participants from around the world say the event is a rare chance to explore the city in this way.

"I think a lot of people that maybe are not familiar with the city, they think of New York as just Manhattan, but there's so much more to New York, and I think doing it on a bike is probably the most unique way you can possibly do it," said Will Stafford, from Virginia.

Five Boro Bike Tour road closures

Of course, the bike tour also meant street, bridge and tunnel closures for drivers across the city.

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was closed from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m. The upper level remained open in both directions.

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge exit ramp to the southbound FDR Drive closed from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The approach from the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to the westbound Gowanus/Brooklyn Queens Expressway closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pedal to the mettle: TD Five Boro Bike Tour sees thousands go the distance despite the dreary weather

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday saw upwards of 35,000 bicyclists get rolling on the nation’s biggest communal bike ride — a 40-mile journey through all five boroughs.

May 5 turned out to be as foggy and cool as forecasters anticipated, with light rain bookending the start and finish. The unseasonably dreary conditions didn’t stop about 30,000 cyclists from getting on two wheels and pedaling along the 40-mile course, which began in Manhattan, grazed the Bronx, returned to Manhattan, then traveled through Queens and Brooklyn before ending on Staten Island.

The tour, which is organized by Bike New York and supports bicycle education programming, has run every year since 1977 except for 1991, when it lost its original sponsor, and 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Plenty of New Yorkers participated, taking up the challenge for personal glory or through the inspiration of others.

Three friends from Queens, Charaj, Vinay and Charles, took the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station, then biked down to the start line in the Financial District. When asked what made them so nervous about the tour, they said two things: Their knees and the Verrazzano Bridge, with that long incline from Brooklyn into Staten Island.

Another pair of friends from Queens, Maura and Alex, watched last year’s Five Boro Bike Tour near their Astoria home, and were inspired to take part in this year’s tour.

“I think it’s a good exercise. I think what I wanted to do is like, I’m never going to do the New York City Marathon,” Alex said. “It’s a fun way to tour the five boroughs. It’s very sort of like low risk.”

Sisters Mandy, Gina and Brianna Tucker traveled from Ohio to take on the five-borough challenge after completing it last year.

“It just looked like a lot of fun. And we had a lot of fun last year. We, like, just couldn’t wait to do it again,” Mandy Tucker said.

Some chose to take the opportunity to support causes.

Cynthia Diaz came in from Las Vegas to complete the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in honor of her best friend, Beatrice Gonzalez, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2021 while riding her bike in Texas.

“When I was there I met a group which I’m trying to meet up with now who, you know, were big advocates towards [stopping] drinking and driving and killing cyclists,” Diaz said. “I’m just doing it because if she was still alive, this is something she’d want to do. So I just tried, you know, living up to what she would have been able to do.”

Liz Chevolino and Chris Hoffman rode their bikes through the tour while flying Palestine flags in support of both the people of Gaza and the ongoing protests on college campuses.

“We’re here, we support Palestine and all of the encampments that are happening,” Chevolino said, “and just want to show our support at a time when that support is sometimes hard to find.”

Thousands of cyclists ride in 2024 TD Five Boro Bike Tour

Cyclists ruled the city streets this weekend.

More than 30,000 bike riders participated in the 2024 TD Five Boro Bike Tour on a soggy Sunday. The nonprofit organization that puts on the event, Bike New York, says it is the biggest charitable bike ride in the world.

“It’s just so enjoyable. It’s physical. It’s emotional. It’s mental. It’s spiritual,” said Ken Podziba, the president and CEO of Bike New York.

What You Need To Know

More than 30,000 bike riders participated in the 2024 td five boro bike tour on sunday the event was hosted by the nonprofit organization bike new york the 40-mile journey began in lower manhattan, went up to the bronx, came back down into queens and brooklyn before wrapping up on staten island ny1 producers nicholas loud and atlan hassard rode in the event and joined anchors rocco vertuccio and shannan ferry sunday morning on ny1 to talk about it.

The 40-mile journey began in lower Manhattan and continued through Central Park, before cyclists made their way uptown to the Bronx. They then went south and biked over the Queensboro Bridge into Long Island City.

Riders then traveled through Queens and along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, before biking over the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to wrap up on Staten Island.

This event is not a race — it is a tour. Cyclists of all skill levels from around the world are invited to travel at their own pace and take in the spectacle.

"I think this is just a great opportunity to see the city. I mean, the streets are closed. This like never happens. We were just through Manhattan. It was amazing. It gives you a different view of the city,” said Diego Garcia, a participant in the Five Boro Bike Tour.

Garcia is new to the city after recently moving to the area from Mexico.

Ari Calem, who is originally from Maryland, has been living and working in the city for about three years. She too took part in the bike tour for the first time on Sunday.

"My bike is kind of a plain casual bike. So I'm just enjoying the city, getting some exercise, but not taking it too intensely,” Calem said.

Spectrum News NY1 spoke with two riders Sunday who are blind. They said they feel empowered when riding in the Five Boro Bike Tour.

"We just want to be part of this community, this high energy. We're athletes at the highest level. We both compete internationally,” said Kiana Glanton, who rode Sunday on a tandem bike.

Glanton said she wants people to know there are no limits to what somebody can do.

"I'm just excited to bring some more light and awareness and education to visual impairments and blindness and people — what they can do," said Griffin Pinkow.

The Five Boro Bike Tour raises money to fund free bike education programs throughout the city, including teaching young New Yorkers in all five boroughs how to ride on city streets.

"We teach formerly incarcerated New Yorkers to become bike mechanics, and they get jobs maintaining Citi Bikes, and their lives are turned around," Podziba said. "We also teach tens of thousands of New Yorkers how to ride — how to ride safely."

The event has around 70 different organizations that serve as charity partners, according to Podziba.
