Starting Guide

You can check the Cruise Control lamp on the Nexon dashboard to check its status. You can start this Cruise control function via the SET button, and the Green signal indicates its ON status.

Deactivating

There are two ways to deactivate this Cruise control system in Nexon either by:

  • Applying Brakes or Clutch,
  • Pressing the deactivate button or switch on the steering wheel.

Resorting to Previous Settings

You can also get the last cruise control settings. But you need to first accelerate the vehicle to the same speed at a specific gear.

  • 3rd gear from 30 Kmph to 80 Kmph
  • 4th gear from 40 kmph to 120 Kmph
  • 5th gear from 50 kmph to 140 Kmph

Shifting Procedure

For changing the speed to the next gear, you can manage that with respective buttons + for the increase and - for the decrease. A single press is enough to get that desired change in the speed and simultaneously show on it. If you press the switch continuously, then the relative function will increase or decrease for that particular gear limit. You can also simultaneously use the accelerator to get the car to a specific speed and use the SET button to get cruise control in motion.

The Aha! NexCruise

The Aha NexCruise brings  cruise control functionality for your TATA Nexon EV and the TATA Tigor EV.

And its much more than that. It is a comprehensive EV Energy management system , which brings a host of features to bring full power at your fingertips. Read on to know how it transforms your EV ownership experience!

Whatever be your current questions about EV ownership, NexCruise addresses it elegantly! Want Cruise Control? No problem! Want to get rid of range anxiety? No problem! Want to achieve 300+ kms range in a single charge, without the hassles? No problem! Switching from ICE to EV? NexCruise is here to hand-hold your transition!

Read on to know how.

Eliminate range anxiety

With the NexCruise, you know exactly how far your car will go, depending upon the modes you’ve engaged. Feel absolutely certain about taking the car on uncharted roads. If there’s a change in plan, do the corresponding change in NexCruise settings and go the distance. At no point will you be guessing in the dark on the actual DTG of your car!

Achieve unbelievable range with your EV

NexCruise drives the car in the “perfect” way, without making a mistake in driving pattern which might reduce the range. It maintains perfectly constant speed and smooth speed transitions while cruising, ensures smooth and gradual changes in the car’s energy consumption whenever needed. It also ensures that the momentum of the car gives real miles, instead of losing the speed out to regenerative braking.

As a result, you get unbelievably long range with your EV. With the current Nexon EV (30KW battery), not only is 300+ kms range achievable, but getting it is a breeze – repeatably – whenever you wish for it!

Take all pain out of highway driving

Without the NexCruise, if you want maximum range in your EV, you need to carefully and manually maintain a constant speed and low acceleration.

The leg starts paining, and you are stuck watching the speedometer and the energy graph all the time you are driving. You lose out on the joy of the journey, and the company of your loved ones in the car.

Its’ time to leave all the tedious driving to NexCruise! Just engage the necessary settings, and sit back and enjoy the drive. The NexCruise will give you a delightful experience AND a better range than any human ever can.

Easily migrate from ICE to EV without the learning curve

The NexCruise does the “EV style of driving” automatically for you, so you don’t have to learn it the hard way. Directly reap the best of both worlds with NexCruise and join the EV bandwagon confidently!

Save huge on your power bills

NexCruise helps you easily save 10% of your SoC for every charge. It pays for itself within no time while you enjoy the convenience it brings!

Increase the life of your car's battery

Rapid discharge is an enemy of the battery life. When you’re using NexCruise to maximize your car’s range, the battery life increases as a pleasant by-product, because its used very efficiently and there is no rapid discharge. NexCruise is good for you, your car’s range, and your car’s batteries – all at once! Things don’t get better than this!

Would rather like a video tour of the features? Here it is:

Cruise Control

With Cruise control, the car maintains a speed that you select automatically, without you having to continuously press the pedal. During the cruise control, if you accelerate the car manually, it returns to the original cruising speed after you release the accelerator pedal.

NexCruise ensures perfectly constant speed while cruising, so that the energy consumption is the lowest and perfectly predictable.

Cruise Resume

Cruise resume feature automatically takes the car to the last-used cruising speed, without you having to manually drive the car back to the needed speed.

Adjustment of cruising speed

While cruising, you can adjust and fine-tune your cruising speed using the dial. In real-world, this translates to unparalleled convenience, and you will find yourself driving the car effortlessly using only the dial!

Coast mode turns-off the regenerative braking, so that you don't lose the momentum of your car, and having to forcibly brake when you don't want to. Instead, you can use the motion into covering more miles with minimal energy, and enjoying a great range of your car!

Eco and Deep Eco modes

Get perfect control of your car's energy consumption with the Eco and deep-eco modes, and get unparalleled range-assurance for those long trips on uncharted roads. Or quite simply enjoy upto 10% saving per charge, get a better life of your car's battery, and see the NexCruise pay for itself in no time!

Speed governor

Configure the maximum allowed speed as per your city's regulations, and rest assured you will never have to pay for a speeding ticket again!

Connected system for OTA Updates

Over-the-air updates ensure that your system always has the latest features, and your one-time-investment keeps delivering you continuous innovation.

When Tata Motors rebranded the Nexon EV as the Nexon EV Prime, they added a few new features to it too. Now, existing Nexon EV owners can access these new features through a software update. These new features include cruise control and multi-regen modes.

Tata Nexon EV

Initially, we were skeptical about whether this software update would indeed add features like cruise control and multi-regen modes to the older Nexon EV , owing to the lack of physical controls for these operations. However, it turns out that Tata Motors have found a way to integrate the controls for these features into the multi information display of the older Nexon EVs.

It is worth noting that Tata are offering the new software update via their dealerships by appointing dates to the customers.

Engine & Transmission

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

Approximate maximum number of kilometers which can be traveled on a full tank of fuel or fully charged battery

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

Set by the Indian Government, this governs the amount of air pollutants released by cars to make the atmosphere safer for humans.

Manufacturers today offer turbochargers to boost engine power without affecting its fuel economy. Superchargers are found in more expensive cars but on the downside, they are not very efficient.

Turbochargers are more effective but require plenty of heat management. Superchargers, meanwhile, offer linear bump in power but they are comparatively more complex.

Dimensions & Weight

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

  • Length: 3993

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

  • Width: 1811

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

  • Height: 1606

Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.

The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.

  • Wheelbase: 2498

The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.

It’s the space between the lowest point of the car and the ground.

  • Ground Clearance: 209

If the car has a good amount of clearance, it’s easier for it to clear big speed breakers and overall, deal with bad roads.

The number of doors define the category of car. For example – four door means sedan, two-door means coupe while five-doors usually refer to a hatchback, MPV or an SUV.

The number of people that can be seated comfortably in the car, which has also been mandated by the car manufacturer.

  • Seating Capacity: 5

Smaller cars usually have two rows which can seat five, but some SUVs and MPVs have three rows and can seat around 7-8 passengers.

Boot space defines how practical the car is with respect to how much luggage it can carry.

  • Bootspace: 350

A boot with a large and wide opening is ideal for loading heavy items. Additionally, a lower loading height also makes it easy to put in luggage.

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.

Suspensions, Brakes, Steering & Tyres

Almost all cars in India use an independent front suspension which is usually the MacPherson Strut type.

The rear suspension can either be non-independent or independent.

Most of the budget cars have non-independent suspension while the more expensive ones get independent rear suspension which offers better bump absorption.

Most of the vehicles sold in India get ventilated or non-ventilated disc brakes upfront.

- The ventilated discs are more popular thanks to them providing better stopping power and it also works well in hot conditions.

In affordable cars, drums brakes are fitted at the rear as they are cost effective.

Disc setup at the rear is now getting more popular as cars are getting faster in the real world.

The official kerb-to-kerb minimum radius a car takes to complete a 180-degree turn.

Shorter the turning radius, the lesser space you need to make a tight turn or to take a U-turn.

Almost all steering systems in cars today have an assist to help park them better at low speeds - these can be hydraulic, electro-hydraulic or electric.

The wheels used on cars are either steel rims with plastic wheel cover hub or alloy wheels on higher spec models or expensive cars.

Razor cut, or diamond cut alloy wheel design are not getting more popular. Manufacturers usually offer these in top-end trim of their car models.

Important in a country with varying quality of roads, spare wheels ensure one doesn’t get stranded when one of the main tyres gets damaged.

Select premium car models feature space savers (smaller than the stock wheels) to save on boot space.
