BrakeBest Select Brake Rotor
Acdelco disc brake rotor, shop the best car brake rotors.
Brake rotors spin on the hub as your wheel turns and provide a smooth surface for the brake pads to contact when you apply the brakes. When they are made, brake rotors are machined flat and smooth, but over time, wear from the brake pads may cause grooves, "hot spots," or general wear. Hot spots, warping, or other damage to a brake rotor or the pads can increase braking distance, reduce your gas mileage, and can result in poor handling or driveability, as well as increased braking hardness or vibrations. Once the brake rotors on your vehicle have been damaged, they will need to be resurfaced or replaced to restore proper braking performance. Damage to the rotor can cause uneven brake pad wear, squealing, or grinding while braking. Rotors may also warp, which may cause shuddering when stopping. The opposite can also be true: driving on bad or damaged brake pads can affect your rotors due to metal-on-metal contact. It is recommended that if your brake pads are being replaced, the rotors should also be replaced or resurfaced at the same time for a complete repair and optimal brake system performance. In some instances, you may be able to resurface brake rotors instead of replacing them, but this depends on the severity of wear and the rotor's overall health. If your rotors need to be replaced, check out your options O'Reilly Auto Parts. We carry brake rotors, brake pads, and all the parts and tools you need for a complete brake job, and even offer in-store brake rotor resurfacing to make your repairs easier. You can also learn more about your car's brakes in our How-To Hub, with topics like Why are my brakes grinding? , symptoms of brake failure , and much more for a confident, informed brake repair.
2011 Dodge Journey Brake Rotor Replacement
Introduction.
Replacing the brake rotors and pads on your 2011 Dodge Journey will bring new life to your vehicle's braking power and smoothness. The brake system is a vital safety component for your vehicle, and while extreme care is needed during repairs, it is a repair that can be done in a few hours by yourself, saving hundreds of dollars.
What you need
Step 1 chock wheel.
Chock (forcefully wedge an object, such as a wood block, between tire and pavement) the wheel on the opposite corner of the wheel you are working on, so that the vehicle cannot roll forward or backward.
Add Comment
Step 2 loosen wheel lugnuts.
Using the ratchet and the 19mm socket, loosen each of the lugnuts 2-3 turns
When tightening lugnuts to reassemble, tighten in a star pattern with a torque wrench to 100 ft-lbs.
Step 3 Place the car on a jack stand
Use the hydraulic jack to lift the vehicle, place the jack stand, and lower the car so that it rests on the jack stand.
The bumps in the frame rail are the reinforced areas for lifting the car - lift at one of these umps circled in red, and place the jack stand at the other like in the picture.
You can now remove the wheel lugnuts the rest of the way and set the wheel to the side
Step 4 Remove the caliper bolts
Use the open end of the 15mm wrench to hold the slide pin, and use the 13mm wrench to loosen both bolts, then completely remove the bolts
Step 5 Remove caliper
Wiggle the caliper out and off of the pads/rotor, and place out of the way - do not let it dangle by the brake hose.
Use the brake spreader tool on the front or the caliper wind back tool on the rear to push the piston back into the caliper for assembly.
Pay close attention that the hose is not twisted when re-installing (flip caliper as necessary to remove twists). A twisted hose will overheat the brakes, causing damage and a reduction or loss of braking performance.
Step 6 Remove brake pads
Remove the brake pads, being careful not to lose clips on caliper bracket.
The clips will need to be cleaned if reusing, and the tabs on the new brake pads will need to be lubed to allow them to easily slide in the bracket.
Make sure there is no lubricant on the pad or rotor surface during and after reassembly
Step 7 Remove the caliper bracket
Using the ratchet and socket (21mm for the front, 18mm for the rear), and remove the bolts holding the caliper mounting bracket. Again, it may be helpful to loosen both bolts before complete removal.
Step 8 Inspect caliper slide pins
Pull the boot from the caliper bracket and slide the pin out to inspect. If there is heavy pitting or rust, you will want to replace the slide pins and bracket. Otherwise, lube with brake lubricant grease for reassembly.
Step 9 Remove the rotor
A hard rap with the hammer at the location shown should dislodge the rotor from the hub. If not, try alternating hammer strikes back and forth from opposite ends of the rotor hat until the rotor breaks free.
If you miss the rotor and hit the wheel stud, you can damage the threads, requiring replacement of the stud.
Use the 3M Scotch Brite pad to clean the rust from the surface of the hub that contacts the rotor (where the wheel studs poke through the hub - see second pic), and to clean any shipping protectant from the new rotor's contact surface (the large flat outer ring surface where the brake pads contact the rotor)
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Recheck wheel lugnut torque after 500 miles of driving.

I was looking for the torque for both, the caliper pins screws, and the bracket screws. Any help on this? Thanks.

Update from Jan 11, 2022 : Finally, Dodge dealer found the problems for premature brakes & rotors replacement. After spending many thousands of dollars it was a defective front caliper driver side causing these many problems for many years. I had the two front calipers changed and Voila! no more brake problems.

I bought my 2011 Dodge Journey in March of 2014. I have had to change the front brakes 3 times and routers once. I recently had to get new calibers, routers and brakes on the back which cost me almost $600. I have put so much money into this vehicle in the short time owning it in brakes alone.

I am finding that every 18 to 24 months that I am having to replace either pads, rotors, or calipers. While my extended warranty covers the cost of calipers, it does not cover break pads or rotors. These parts are replace with the same low quality factory parts that will most like wear out again in the next 18 to 24 month. Due to delivery delays on parts, my vehicle was in the shop for 8 days having all three parts replaced.

Every since I purchased this Dodge Journey I've had brakes problems. Had them fixed several times, I regret ever buying it. Dodge won't do anything about this on going issue with their product, which could cause someone their life. I wish someone would do something. Getting expensive to keep the brakes repaired.

Bought the car new in March 2011, could feel grinding when stopping after just several months and found out the rotors needed to be replaced 5 months after purchase. Initially was not covered by warranty as it was past the time but the dealership felt it could not have been normal wear and tear and did not charge.

To offer some comparison, I also have a 2011 Hyundi Elantra which did not need a brake replacement until 33000 kilometers and gave no problems until the pads were worn down. A Dodge Journey is certainly not on the list of my next purchase although I like the vehicle and have had no other problems than the brakes. The brake problem is too much to disregard and until Chrysler comes up with a solution I would not recommend the vehicle to anyone else. In each case where I had the rotors and pads replaced the pads were not worn down to a level that would create a problem normally.

I am at a loss as to what to do. I cannot afford to keep putting brakes on this vehicle every year. This vehicle also has 19 in tires, which are just impossible to find. I am about to replace my tires for the 3 time, and I use winter tires every winter. Sware to God I don't drag race my truck!! They are such a low profile tire that they never come with a warranty, because there is no rubber on them....

I bought my Journey in September 2011. Within a year I had to replace the rotors and the brakes, of course out of warranty. since then I have had to replace the front pads 2 other times and the back once. this should not happen to a new vehicle with under 100,000 miles on it.

Rear brakes began making noise on going into reverse. I had the brakes checked at Firestone, and was informed the rotor had to be replaced, as well as the calipers and brake pads. The front brakes were replaced with ceramic pads. This car has 33,500 miles on it. All my driving is short distances and I do not ride the brakes or drive carelessly. Upon questioning the mechanic, he informed me Chrysler products were notorious for lousy brakes. Checking on the internet I found this to be true, as complaints were all over about the lousy brakes. I am out $713.19 right at Christmas time and am not happy at all. I have just began my search for some justice in this situation.

I bought this car and was sold on the amount of awesomeness the dealer had to say about it. After driving it for less than a year I am having to hold on with both hands to the steering wheel when I am braking because of the routers being warped. I thought it was really odd that I would be having brake issues this early in my car and I have never once had a problem with any other car I have owned in the past from other makes and models and I had them longer. I took it into the dealership so that they could take a look at it. I asked the service man why this would be happening so soon to my new car and he told me that it was due to the way I drove and the stop and go of everyday driving. Well that is fine and all but I haven't changed my driving patterns in the past year and I have never had to replace brakes on a NEW CAR before. Even older cars I never had to replace the brakes. So the service man took my car in and took a look at it and called me to tell me they needed to replace ALL the brake pads and routers. Yes I said ALL. I said are you kidding me I can only feel the ones in the front failing why all. And he told me that they were all showing faulty and warped and would need to be replaced. He told me the repair would cost me $750.00 to fix my problem and that more than likely I would need to have the same repair done AGAIN in about a year. This is the one thing that my awesome warranty doesn't cover. Go figure. So what is the point of having a new car if your going to have to spend $750.00 in repairs a year to maintain it. Worthless. So never the less I don't have the money to drop on a new car to replace the brake system on the entire car and so I will not be getting them fixed now. This is a problem that needs to be addressed with the make of this car. It is not fair to make your consumers pay that much money on a new car just to maintain it.
