We boarded the boat with a large double pushchair. The staff boarding the passengers were so helpful and welcoming, the pushchair not an issue at all. The 45 minute cruise took us up and down the Ouse, with the captain providing a live informative commentary on the passing scenery and buildings. I had ordered 4 glasses of prosecco in advance and there was a good choice of drinks and snacks on board, served by a lovely helpful girl. I would say the duration of the cruise was the right timing for small children. Our toddler grandson really enjoyed the boat experience. We did this trip on Good Friday, and it was lively without being rammed with people, which can be the case on ank Holidays. Attentive, engaging and warm to all passengers on the cruise. The experience itself was wonderful. The river was still and calm and cruise practically glided up and down before returning to dock. We'd bundled this in as.part of my wife's birthday celebrations, and they were wonderful in giving her a birthday shout-out. Finn and Isabelle on the bar were fantastic. Great customer service from both. Andy the skipper was wonderful as well, particularly when giving his anecdotes and stories as we came into dock. We saw York in a different light, if you pardon the pun, as we sipped our Prosecco to the chorus of birds singing. The cruise encouraged us to walk and explore the riverside the following day. Afternoon Tea on Board City Cruises York

It was a beautifully sunny day, on the day I sampled the City Cruises Afternoon Tea cruise on the River Ouse in York. Myself and my old school friends got together for a good natter and a relaxing trip down the river.

I love afternoon tea and thought this was a great way to combine a lovely trip down the river with sandwiches, cake and a glass of Prosecco. The journey started at King’s Staith, not far from the King’s Arms pub. We boarded the riverboat and were shown to our table. The boat was decorated with bunting for a proper garden party feel. As I mentioned, it was a hot day, so we were glad to have the roof partially removed (but would equally have been glad to have it there if it had been raining!).

The tables were set up with cups and saucers and a very pretty pot of fresh flowers. The afternoon tea itself was already on the table but protected and covered. Then we were brought cute bottles of Prosecco each, before being offered tea or coffee. Free refills were available throughout the cruise.

City Cruises York Afternoon Tea

The sandwiches included coronation chicken, salmon and cream cheese, Wensleydale cheese and chutney.

Then there were carrot cake, profiteroles and scones with jam and clotted cream.

The cruise itself lasts almost two hours and you journey first towards the North before turning back, cruising back through York and heading South to Bishopthorpe Palace, home of the Archbishop of York. 

York really looks very different when seen from the river so it was a lovely treat to do so. 

As you go beyond the city itself the riverbanks become lush and green and you can spot wildlife.  We saw a mink just outside Bishopthorpe Palace (though I wasn’t quick enough to get a photo of it!).

We spent a lovely afternoon on the river and it just gave a little more novelty to a traditional afternoon tea.

Attentive, engaging and warm to all passengers on the cruise. The experience itself was wonderful. The river was still and calm and cruise practically glided up and down before returning to dock. We'd bundled this in as.part of my wife's birthday celebrations, and they were wonderful in giving her a birthday shout-out. Finn and Isabelle on the bar were fantastic. Great customer service from both. Andy the skipper was wonderful as well, particularly when giving his anecdotes and stories as we came into dock. We saw York in a different light, if you pardon the pun, as we sipped our Prosecco to the chorus of birds singing. The cruise encouraged us to walk and explore the riverside the following day. Sophia who dealt with our booking was very friendly and professional in her manner. Scott was our skipper along with Pirate Pete. The commentary was very informative yet relaxed. The skipper Xander was so informative with his commentary. The other two members of crew were so kind and posed for photos with my two little girls and even let them take a few photos in the helm. • 676lizn 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Lovely Easter treat Perfect excursion for a family group, ranging in age from a baby and toddler, to parents and grandparents. We boarded the boat with a large double pushchair. The staff boarding the passengers were so helpful and welcoming, the pushchair not an issue at all. The 45 minute cruise took us up and down the Ouse, with the captain providing a live informative commentary on the passing scenery and buildings. I had ordered 4 glasses of prosecco in advance and there was a good choice of drinks and snacks on board, served by a lovely helpful girl. I would say the duration of the cruise was the right timing for small children. Our toddler grandson really enjoyed the boat experience. We did this trip on Good Friday, and it was lively without being rammed with people, which can be the case on ank Holidays.
