best gifts for travel Level 8 Luggage

I think we have tried every type of carry-on luggage out there over the years and we love this Pro Carry-on with Laptop Pocket   by Level8. We felt so chic going through the airport with these hard cases and modern design and it was easy t o pop out my laptop and documents right from the front of my carry-on when going through security.

For our checked bags, our yellow Voyageur Check-In 28′ turned heads. We didn’t worry about anyone mixing up our bags on the conveyor belt with our unique color and design. We found the 28-inch a bit too large, but you can order 24′ or 26′. But with the large handle and ultra-quite 360° spinner wheels it was super easy to navigate through the airport.

  • On a personal note, my hard case carry on fell from the top of a van on my trip and because my laptop was secure in the front hard case pocket, it wasn’t damaged. That was a huge relief. Save 10% off all products with the code ThePlanetD10

A really nice gifting list you got there. Was looking for a gift idea for my friend’s birthday and landed right here and must say i am not disappointed. Thanks for sharing the list with us. Keep up the good work.

We tried to put together a really comprehensive list that includes al the best gifts for travelers. Glad you liked it!

Honestly, a lot of those travel gifts for women are great. Yes, they are archetypically female, but it sounds like he based the list on women he polled. I think what some of the female readers were hoping to point out was that most of the items mentioned in the female section were pointedly appealing and useful to women alone, and none necessarily engaged the mind or body. While the male section, barring a few items , women would genuinely find equal interest in, so could have easily gone into the “everyone” section. This list is helpful and is meant with only good intentions. Looks like most are taking it as such.

Very true. We tried to break things up a bit to give people some organization, but I agree, I would use all of them as well!

Great list, a lot of cool ideas there! How about adding a translator like Travis or Pocketalk? I’m thinking to get one for my dad but I’m waiting for Black Friday offers. Keep up the good work Matt 🙂

Translators are a good idea. We prefer Google Translate ourselves, I haven’t tried the ones you suggest. But thanks for sharing!

Wow, this is such a great list. Thank you for sharing it in such an organized way. Loved the detailed list.

Wonderful. I am get some of these gifts for myself. I just love this list. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for sharing such a unique list. You always impress us. The one thing that stands apart from the list and my personal favorite would be the GOPRO HERO 8 BLACK. This is the best partner you could take along while traveling or while gifting something to a traveler this is the best choice one could get, as it helps in catching all the memories that would remain with you forever. The one and the only thing i would like to add to this list is the City Map Glass. If your dad’s a whiskey drinker who likes to travel, this custom city map glass is about as thoughtful a gift as it gets. The best part is it’s personalized (which will make it even more special). Yo get to choose his favorite city to get etched into the glass, so every time he has a drink, he’ll reminisce on his best memories.

I got the same world map pillow! Its a shame that it looks better than feels=) However they were made for visual pleasure and they do their job

Pop Fashion Hidden Pocket Scarves also look better than feels, but does its job=) Pretty nice thing, especially when you and on tours and trips

If someone handover to me to select the best gift for a traveller, I would select Go Pro Hero 7. And I’m damn sure s/he will be happy after getting this kind of gift. I had gifted that DJI Mavic Pro to one of my friend long back. He really liked it too much and after 2 years also if we meet then again and again he says thanks for that amazing moving camera. hank you for sharing your blog

I love giving the Karmin T70 hair clippers as a gift 😉

Great post! I’ll be forward this to my family for some holiday shopping ideas. 🙂 I’m also really looking forward to the Pilot from Waverly Labs, which is an earpiece that translates foreign languages in real time. It sounds too-good-to-be-true, but the tech seems legit. While it might take away a bit of the fun from learning new languages, can you imagine the kind of interactions you’d be able to have with non-English speaking locals? What time to be alive!

I would love about…oh, 90% of the stuff on this list, even though in a few cases I already have something very similar to it already. Some would actually be great for the occasional travelers on this list or the many campers we have in my husband’s family. Thanks for providing some inspiration for my upcoming Christmas shopping!

Wow. That’s quite a list of great travelling products you have there. The electronics organisers are very popular now. Usually we end up with a bag full of tangled adaptors and wires. The coasters are really cute. It’s good that they come with the holder as that makes a lovely display. The inflatable travel bag – I have never seen one of those before. What a great idea considering how bags are tossed around from flight to flight these days.

What a comprehensive list! My favourite is, of course, a free trip 😀 Othewise, I’d go for a colouring book – it’d be perfect for killing time on the plane!

some very good ideas here although I cannot use a selfie stick and can’t bring myself to buy one…lol…The bag for wires and stuff is genius I get so tired of pulling out everything in one shot as they are all tangled together.

Love that so many of your products are practical…great list of items and I think I might need that laptop sleeve!

I find the gotubes to be convenient for putting alcohol in them in case you don’t have a alcohol package for your cruise and it can be expensive we do this ha ha.

This is a great list of traveller gifts! My sister does a lot of travelling so you’ve given me some great ideas for her.

Those are some great ideas. I love the surge protector with USB ports. But I’m really curious about that pocket sized “washing machine”!

oooh I love the look of the Journeys of a Lifetime book. So many great gift options – I am still to do my Christmas shopping so this is perfect!

Boy are you good at lists! This list is comprehensive. I think the luggage scale is a must! Saves you alot of money and problems in the airport for cheap. Nice list however!

Love the scarf with a zip!

Love the list and how detailed it is. My Birthday and Christmas lists just got a few more additions to them. A waterproof case for the phone and a headphone splitter for when travelling with the family is an excellent idea. I still have to buy a lens kit for my phone and plan to get one when I travel next. The digital luggage scale is for me the most important travel item considering how many times I got the weight of my luggage wrong. Thanks so much for this.

I really should get a Gorillapod…

It is really useful for photos especially when traveling solo.

Wow! What a great list. I’m not looking to buy for anyone but man, this gave me tons of good ideas for myself It’s a really awesome detailed list!

Glad it gave you some great ideas!

Those Anker battery backups are amazing! I might need to get another while I’m here.

They really are useful! My phone battery runs out so quickly so cannot function without them.

hi i like the electronic organizer and a drone is playing on my mind these days .. lets see

this is quite comprehensive list that u have made

Great gift ideas! I love my Belkin and I’d definitely recommend that for a traveler!

Noise canceling headphones are really essential, been wanting to get one of those for a while now (tho they’d be more of a gift to myself, lol). Anyways, all of the options are amazing!

I liked your idea for Kindle paper white and earplugs, while reading I need some place of peace, so that I can concentrate myself.

What a comprehensive list! My favourite is, of course, a free trip Othewise, I’d go for a colouring book – it’d be perfect for killing time on the plane!

Awesome list! Scratch off maps are a great gift.

I wish I had run across this before Christmas. These are great ideas!

This is a great list of traveller gifts, I think the luggage scale is a must! Saves you alot of money and problems in the airport for cheap.Thank you for sharing your blog

I remember being quite sceptic about e-books, but right now I simply cannot imagine living without Kindle;)

Even though Christmas is long past, I loved going through this list. Actually found some things I’m getting for msyelf soon =)

The most useful thing for me in this list is travel cord roll. I like your list as all things are very useful during traveling.

Great gift ideas! It’s so helpful to me. This is one article but gives a lot of gift ideas for a traveller. Once again, Thank you.

I ordered the reusable bag lots of neat patterns and great reviews

I hope you like it. We both have been using that bag for years and like that it is so small and light.

The solar portable charger sounds like a great idea! My phone is a few years old and sometimes it chargers quickly and holds the charge….other times it seems like it loses battery in an hour :/ I like the idea of the scarf with the hidden zip pocket too.

I have the same problem with my phone battery! I wish they lasted longer.

I own almost all these gifts so I guess I am a traveler! I have never seen the wine triple portable case before so I think it is time for some online shopping!

This is a great list of traveler gifts. Thanks for sharing

Great gift guide, the noise cancelling headphones would be brilliant on flights.

I have travelled with a door stop for years, it has been so handy when staying in a room somewhere with less than ideal safety features. The doorstop alarm is definitely the next level up and I am glad to have discovered it on your list of gadgets. I will be ordering one now!

I love the scarf with pocket, i think i will request it for Christmas 😉

Wow, so many amazing options! I really need an electronics organizer and have been looking online. Thank you!

Great traveler gift list! I Free trip is my favourite to chill out! I will go for headphones. it’d be perfect for killing time on the plane!

Nice writing

18 Great Gifts for the World Traveler in Your Life

travel life gift

A fter two years of lockdown and travel restrictions, the world is re-opening (for better or worse) and an increasing number of people are embracing pre-pandemic lifestyles. That means that travel is returning as folks the world over have collectively decided they need a vacation.

As world travelers (or would-be world travelers) dust off their passports and start eyeing SkyScanner for deals, the folks who love them may be putting together their holiday shopping plans. That’s where this list of luxury travel gifts comes in. After all, what do you get someone who travels the world and can pick up anything anywhere? While most jetsetters would be thrilled with a gift of airline miles, barring that, the items on this list are a close second with options ranging from stylish luggage to portable hotel room improvements to luxury travel necessities (yes, cashmere pillows are a necessity). To put together this guide, I tapped into my years as a travel writer and my platinum-airline flying status and scoured the internet for the most stylish, useful, and quality items in a wide range of prices.

Here are 18 gifts—ranging from $30 to $1,995 (as of the time of publication)—to give to the traveler in your life. Happy trails!

November 8, 2020

If you’re short on time and low on travel gift ideas, this post is going to save your life this year! I’ve spent the past three years traveling full-time, so I’ve got a prettty good sense of what gifts travelers actually want – and which will just end up collecting dust in a box somewhere.

Whether you’re looking for gifts for friends going travelling, something sweet for your special someone, or making a last-ditch effort to shop for that random person who has everything — I GOT YOU. This giant list of unique travel gifts & ideas will have something that’ll pique your interest, I promise.

Unique Travel Gifts $50 and Under

You definitely don’t have to break the bank to find good travel gifts! So many of my favorites are under $50 and would make great travel stocking stuffers, or nice going-away gifts for friends going travelling. I tried to include a good mix of fun travel gifts and practical travel gifts in this list.

I own and use many of these already, and most of the others are sitting in my various carts for future trips. Real-Life Traveler Approved™.

Enjoy the Wood Wooden World Travel Maps & City Maps, $50+!

Unique Travel Gifts Enjoy the Wood Wooden Travel Maps

My TOP unique travel gift idea this year!! It’s one of the best ways I’ve found to commemorate my travels and keep all my travel memories alive 🙂 These handmade wooden world travel maps can be customised with flag pushpins for all the places you or your loved one have visited. They make an incredible accent piece for any home.

I am also stoked on this brand because of their focus on sustainability and their small-scale manufacturing. Most importantly – they’re based in Ukraine. Their manufacturing centre was completely destroyed and they’re currently trying to offload their existing inventory and rebuild. Every purchase helps them do so. The maps are extremely high quality and just a really lovely, thoughtful travel gift. I’m obsessed and couldn’t recommend these more highly as a gift for people who like to travel.

Click here to check out all the Enjoy the Wood wooden travel maps , or make a donation through their site to support Ukraine. Use code JALEH10 for 10% off 🙂

  iPhone/Android Tripod, $19.99

For anyone who loves taking photos — this portable phone tripod is a must! The flexible arms can wrap around railings, furniture, or other objects to create the perfect angle for a photo. This will definitely help to up anyone’s Instagram game, especially solo travelers who struggle to get good shots.

Custom Travel Theme Metal Pins, $1-50

Travel Gift Ideas for Adventure Lovers Custom Travel Metal Pins

Looking for meaningful but inexpensive travel gifts? I’m currently  obsessed with these jewelry-quality custom metal pins. These are PERFECT gifts for travel lovers and offer endless style options for anyone who wants to add a little personality to their travel outfits.

These travel gift accessories easily upgrade a whole look, whether popped onto a hat, jacket, or backpack! The pins are fully customizable with unique elements like name, destinations, or travel quotes. They make a fantastic custom travel gift for this year.

Shop & check out the best custom metal pins manufacturer here ! There’s a 40% bulk discount right now, so it’s a great time to pick up a few gifts for friends who travel!

Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Greatest Trips ($40)

travel life gift

If you’re looking for a gift for adventure lovers or wanderlusters missing international travel, this is it!!! This incredible book from National Geographic is devoted to travel inspiration around the world and features their typical (stunning) full-color photography, plus in-depth explanations for each destination. There’s something here for everyone.

This is such a thoughtful travel gift and would make an amazing gift idea for someone who misses traveling. Guarantee they’ll be thanking you for the inspiration for their next trip.

Click here to take a look inside the book and pick up a copy!

Chromecast, $35

If you want bang for your buck, this is the option for what to gift someone who loves travelling. Most hotel rooms and even some in homestays/hostels have TVs, but they can be pretty much worthless in certain countries. I have watched more hours of TV in languages I don’t speak than I could count lol. Chromecast solves that problem, allowing you to stream Netflix/anything from your browser directly to your TV. It’s a LIFESAVER.

Airplane Pendant Necklace, $49.99

travel life gift

The PERFECT travel gift for her this year — this gorgeous pendant necklace features a plane and a globe, in classic sterling silver dotted with cubic zirconia. Cute, stylish, and tarnish-free, it’s one of the most unique and functional gifts for the traveling woman! This is probably one of my favorite pieces on this travel gift guide – it’s SO cute in person, too.

Check out reviews and purchase here!

Vaccine Card Holder

Is this a little sad? Yes, lol. But in current times, will it come UNBELIEVABLY IN HANDY for your favorite traveler? Yes, lol. This is a super basic, durable, clear plastic card holder to protect your card – literally one of THE best 2021 travel gift ideas. My card is not encased in one of these bad boys, and only 3 months and 5 countries later it is completely BATTERED. I would definitely recommend this as a travel stocking stuffer this year or including it as one of your travel gift basket ideas!

Click here to view prices and purchase a vaccine card holder.

Margarita Travel Kit!

travel life gift

For anyone (me, lol) who loves getting a little tipsy during their flights but craves a PROPER cocktail, this is a BRILLIANT affordable travel gift idea!! The kit comes sans tequila but contains everything else your fave traveler (or you) needs to make a marg in-flight. And it’s TSA-approved. Yes. YESSS!! Seriously such a fun travel gift. I’m picking these up for my friends this year.

Airbnb Gift Card, $50

If nothing else, give the gift of free travel! There’s a whole world of unbelievable Airbnbs out there. And I don’t know any traveler who wouldn’t jump at a few nights of free accommodation in a cosy house or laid-back beach bungalow.

Please note Airbnb gift cards are currently redeemable to USA ACCOUNT HOLDERS ONLY.

Check out here to purchase an Airbnb gift card!

  Stainless Steel Water Bottle, $21.95

A stainless steel bottle is great for travelers and the environment – win-win. This is a GREAT practical travel gift that most people never get around to buying for themselves. This one has tons of color & size options and it’s top-rated.

  Packing Cubes, $21.63

These are an organizational godsend and probably my favorite travel item I own. They make packing an absolute breeze because they compress to save space and help organize your items. They’re an absolute game-changer. Buy these as gifts for someone going travelling and I guarantee they will use them on every single trip.

  Clip-On Phone Camera Lens, $28.99

Another great gift for travel photographers! This clip-on lens attaches to the phone to allow a wider frame and higher quality shots – and it’s compatible with iPhone, Samsung, and Google phones. The macro lens also allows for close-up detail shots. These are SO much fun to shoot with and make a really fun travel gift.

  Travel Adapter, $9.99

Boring, yes, but necessary. A good travel adapter will always be appreciated, and most travelers just opt for the cheapest version when shopping for themselves. Pick up a compact but multi-functional one with extra USB ports to charge devices, and you’ll get some SERIOUS brownie points.

Portable Phone Charger

This is another must-have that will get a ton of use. There’s nothing worse than your phone running out of juice in middle-of-nowhere, Uzbekistan (I can tell you from experience). Go for a slim, lightweight version to make sure your favorite traveler can always keep it on-hand, just in case!

  Memory Foam Neck Pillow

This is the single best travel gift I could recommend if you’re looking for value. If you know any travelers who don’t have a neck pillow, get them one. Immediately . It will change their life and make flights so much more comfortable & restful. I’ve been using this wraparound pillow for 2+ years and refuse to travel without it, but the one pictured is better-rated and offers a bit more support.

  Foot Hammock

If you know someone who struggles to sleep on flights, get them a foot hammock!! They hang off the tray table and allow you to elevate your feet, creating a much more comfortable resting position. I MacGyver myself a hammock with a sweatshirt or blanket, but would definitely appreciate a legit version. Elevating my feet has completely cured my plane insomnia and saved my life on long flights.

  Travel Towel

A lightweight, quick-drying travel towel is a godsend for any long-term traveler. This is one of those things people often don’t realize they need until they’ve already left.

Pushpin World Map / Scratch Off World Map

My mom got me the scratch off version for Christmas last year and it was one of my best travel themed gifts! It’s so satisfying scratching off new countries, and it makes a cute conversation piece in my room. One of my best friends has the pushpin version which I love too. These are definitely awesome gifts for any avid traveler.

  Collapsible Mug

Perfect gifts for environmentally conscious travelers. I use mine for everything, from coffees to hostel water refills. It’s super compact and lightweight and fits easily in my bag, it’s cute af, and I love that I’m not contributing to creating plastic waste (especially in developing countries where that plastic is likely going to end up in the ocean).

Around the World Spice Set

travel life gift

This is the perfect gift for world travelers – especially in 2020, where lots of us are stuck at home unexpectedly and unable to travel 🙁 You can gift a little taste of feeling abroad with a round-the-world spice set featuring blends from Morocco, Jamaica, and Thailand, among others! It’s a super unique travel gift idea and one I’d love to get myself.

Click here to check out reviews and purchase!

Waterproof Phone Case

Pretty much every traveler I know has destroyed their phone at least once due to an accident, flood, or falling into a lake (last example being me). Save your traveler friends the hassle and gift them a STURDY waterproof phone case to protect their electronics, so that they too don’t end up abroad with a fried phone. Again, a great practical travel gift that a lot of people won’t bother picking up for themselves, but will literally KISS you for gifting them when they get home.

Click here to check out phone cases!

Extension Cable, $15.19

Another “boring” but unbelievably useful travel gift. For some reason, many countries like to put their power ports in completely incomprehensible positions – and it is NOT A VIBE. I never thought to bring one but would have KILLED for one the past 8 months in Vietnam as I’ve navigated housing with the literal dumbest wiring imaginable. Your traveler might go “wtf” when they open this one, but I PROMISE they will use it on one of their trips and bless you for saving them from a really common inconvenience.

This one also has USB ports and is super compact for travel. I just bought one and am looking forward to trying it out on my next trip!

Unique Travel Gift Ideas Under $200

If you’re looking for super useful travel gift ideas for the travelers in your life, here are some solid mid-range options.

KnackPack Medium, $195

Practical Travel Gifts KnackPack

I cannot & will not stop raving about this backpack lol. The KnackPack is a first-of-its kind multifunctional luggage and is by FAR the best travel backpack I’ve ever used. It’s an AMAZING practical travel gift idea. It has a ton of unique and thoughtful features for travelers looking for something sleek and functional. My medium pack is TSA-approved as a carry on but fits literally an INSANE amount of stuff in it.

Amongst other features, it packs like a suitcase, and has a ton of additional pockets, making storage super easy. It also has a side water bottle pocket, comfy padding on the back, and a trolley sleeve for easy stacking on my roller bag. I genuinely cannot recommend this bag more highly.  They’ve thought of EVERYTHING and I truly couldn’t recommend this more highly as a unique travel gift this year!! It’s a game-changer.

Click here to check out color options and reviews for the Medium KnackPack , or here to check out their full range of sizes .

  Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader, $129.99

Books and travel are… not compatible. When you’ve got limited space in your bag, it’s really not practical to lug around more than a book or two (if that). And that SUCKS if you love to read. If you know a bookworm who loves to travel, get them an e-reader and they will love you forever. Curling up in bed or passing a long train ride with all your favorite books at your fingertips… that’s priceless. I would love  to get one of these… are you reading this, Mom? 😉

Check out reviews and prices here!

SplayTray, $55

Useful Travel Gifts Ideas Splaytray

This nifty invention by a friend of mine is a patented-design carry bag that expands out into a fullsize tray. It’s SO HANDY. The sides are magnetised so once you want access to all your makeup, art supplies, etc at once, you just pop the sides and everything is laid out – no more rummaging through your bag for what you’re looking for. It comes in small/medium versions and a ton of different color options!!!

  Nanopresso Machine, $64.90

For the caffeine-addicted traveler. I had no idea a “nanopresso” was a thing until recently, but it looks AMAZING. Basically it’s a teeny-tiny portable machine that brews coffee! Just add coffee grounds and water. I was a bit skeptical of the functionality, but the reviews are actually solid – so this one is a safe bet for coffee lovers! Grab the NS adapter to make it Nespresso-pod compatible!

  Fujifilm InstaX Polaroid Camera, $72

Especially in the age of ultra-curated social media, there’s something really special about real  snapshots. Your fave traveler will have a blast snapping pics with one of these, and they’ll come home with a stack of absolutely priceless photos. My favorite travel photos are consistently the grainy, garbage quality late-night snaps on friends’ Polaroids – those are always the real moments, and the ones I most want to remember!

Check out reviews, colors, and prices here!

Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

There’s something about speakers that makes everything more fun – whether you’re laying on a beach in Thailand, enjoying a beer in Germany, or hiking in Switzerland. This one is waterproof, compact, and the sound quality is amazing! My flatmates have this exact model and it’s survived countless trips to Bondi Beach.

 Mobile Wifi Hotspot

For anyone who lives online, a mobile hotspot is a must have travel gift! This little contraption creates a mobile wifi network, so your favorite traveler can stay connected, even in the middle of nowhere. This is great for people who travel frequently because I guarantee they are sick of weak wi-fi and dropped connection.

Priority Pass Membership, currently 40% off at just $55 (normally $99!)

Unique Travel Gifts for Friends Going Travelling

Priority Pass is an exclusive service that grants members discounted access to hundreds of airport lounges around the world. Especially between long-haul international flights, it makes a huge difference to be able to relax, take a shower, and squeeze in a (complimentary!) gin & tonic. Whoever you pick this one up for will LOVE you.

Check out pricing and membership tiers here!

Unique & Useful Travel Gift Ideas $200 and Over AKA Presents For People You REALLY Love

Kidding, I know you can’t put a price tag on love 😉 But if you’ve got a bit higher budget, here are some mid-range to luxury travel gift ideas that your giftee would DIE to have, but probably won’t splurge on themselves.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones, $199.99 (on sale from $299.99!!))

An absolute game-changer on flights, and probably one of the greatest investment items for a frequent traveler. You don’t realize how loud and disruptive airplane or outside noise can be until you can switch it off with the flick of a button. It makes a huge difference in sleep and comfort to upgrade from regular headphones. This Bose pair is one of the highest-rated noise cancelling headphones on the market, and my personal fave.

GoPro Hero 8, $299.99 (on sale from $349.99!!)

For any adventurers, a GoPro is a must have travel gift!! This bad boy can handle any weather condition and the picture quality is amazing considering how compact it is. It’s so fun to shoot with one and I’ve always come out with some gorgeous, in-the-moment adventure snaps. Don’t forget to pick up a GoPro dome to take some seriously cool half-underwater photos!

DJI Mini Drone, $399.99

DJI drones are some of the highest-rated on the market. They create spectacular aerial shots and are one of the best gifts for travel photographers. This is a definite investment but seriously opens up a whole new world of possibility for photos! I personally would kill for a drone, especially as a solo traveler who often struggles to take pics unassisted.

Chic Luggage Set, $325

Who wouldn’t love some sleek new luggage? My personal favorite brand Calpak makes beautiful luggage sets in a wide variety of colors and patterns. The rose-gold (pictured) is the most popular, but I own the white marble set , and have my eye on the rainbow gradient . They’re super lightweight but very sturdy and well-made.

Shay Mitchell’s Beis line is also EXTREMELY well-rated and very sleek. Revolve currently stocks a ton of luggage options including a 29” roller linked here , or a 21” roller linked here (both come in black and beige!).

Panasonic Lumix Mirrorless Camera, $479.99

If you know anyone who loves photography and travel, get them a mirrorless camera. An iPhone simply doesn’t do incredible destinations justice, but a DSLR is way too bulky to be practical for travel (I hate lugging mine around everywhere). A mirrorless camera gives you all the quality of a DSLR without the heft – it’s the perfect travel camera. I’ll be swapping out my Canon 6D for the Panasonic as soon as I can afford it!

FitBit Versa 3 Smartwatch & Activity Tracker, $229.95

Traveling does a number on your body, and it’s really hard to stay in shape (especially when you love trying new foods). Any long-term traveler would love a tracker to help monitor their activity and stay on top of their health while abroad. This was my personal most-wanted item this year, and I’m confident I’ll get a ton of use out of it on future travels.

Gift an Experience

If all else fails, and you don’t want to burden your traveler with more Stuff – give them a gift they’ll never forget! Like a Harry Potter studio tour in London . Or a hot air balloon ride over Sydney’s Hunter Valley wine country. Or a romantic dinner cruise through the San Francisco Bay .

Or… just grab them a gift card and let them choose their dream experience .

Unique Travel Gifts for Her

Silk sleep mask.

Trying to sleep on a flight or in an unfamiliar environment (like a night train) can be absolutely miserable – a sleep mask will help to get some shut-eye. I have this pink silk version and it’s so  cute and super soft.

Shampoo & Conditioner Bars

The number of times my shampoo/conditioner have leaked into my bag and destroyed some important possession are like… endless. And continually lugging around/purchasing new (sh*tty) hair products is both impractical, and bad for your hair. Solution? Gift travelers shampoo/conditioner bars (and bar soap!), which travel easy and leak-proof, while keeping hair sleek and moisturised even in the most remote destinations.

Cute Leather Luggage Tags

Especially if someone has indistinct luggage (like a basic black case), these will help avoid any mix-ups at the airport. And in case the bag gets lost, airport staff will easily be able to identify it. Plus they’re cute. My ex’s family got me these one year and I LOVE them – I use them every time I fly!

Personalized Leather Passport Holder

Your passport is the most important thing you take with you on your travels! And especially with frequent trips, they can get pretty banged up – mine is literally falling apart. If you know someone whose passport looks a little worse for the wear, get them a passport holder. They look nice and they’re a super functional travel gift.

Also, Socks

I know it’s a running joke that you know you’re old once you get excited about socks for Christmas, but like, I would really love some socks lol. Whatever you decide to buy this year, just chuck some socks in the package too.

If you or someone you love needs socks too, here’s a link . You can never have enough socks, guys.

ANYWAY, I hope this helped you sort out your last-minute Christmas shopping this year!! Hope you guys have a lovely holiday season, and please let me know if you ended up buying any of these gifts for world travelers in your life. I’d love to hear about it!

20 Best Travel Gift Ideas, According to Flight Attendants

travel life gift

For more of the Cut’s favorite fashion, beauty, and home finds,  sign up for the weekly  Cut Shop Newsletter .

When I was little, my parents would always give my sister and me what I considered the best travel gifts: toys (remember Pixel Chix and Polly Pocket? Exactly — the best ). As I’ve gotten older, though, I appreciate more age-appropriate and practical travel gifts, like new suitcases , hearty hand cream , and bluetooth eye masks. (Yes, that’s a thing. Keep reading.)

If you’re a frequent flyer (or know somebody who never shuts up about their mileage points) who has begun their search for the best holiday gifts , we spoke with flight attendants to put together the 20 best travel accessories that will make traveling (and gifting) easier.

Ahead of peak holiday-shopping season (a.k.a. the weekend of Black Friday and Cyber Monday ), consider giving travel gifts that your friend or family member who’s all about mileage points will love — and put to good use. We spoke to experts like flight attendants and travel executives for the best travel gifts to check out this season.

For an On-the-Go Blowout

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Air Brush

When it comes to a hair tool worth bringing along on any trip, the Revlon one-step (which you might have seen on TikTok ) is the perfect option to deliver blowouts in an airport bathroom. With three heat settings and a cool option, NYC-based flight attendant Kat Iwinski says it’s good for any hair type, anywhere in the world.

For the Light Sleeper

MUSICOZY Sleep Headphones + Eye Mask

While Iwinski wears this eye mask in the crew rest bunks, it can be used nearly anywhere. The mask has built-in headphones that can pair with any phone or tablet and offers a ten-hour play time. And it’s cooling and breathable.

To Keep Everything In One Place

Nomad Goods Modern Leather Folio

Instead of keeping cards on the outside of your phone (which can lead to some mishap), consider this sleek leather case that allows you to discreetly store three cards and cash. Perfect for those of us who always have our phone in hand.

For the Person Who’s Always on Their Devices

Anker 747 Power Bank (PowerCore 26K for Laptop)

Instead of searching the whole terminal for a free power outlet, carry this power bank that features 2 USB and 2 USB-C charging ports that can provide multiple full charges for a phone and a whole charge for a laptop. Impressive! Johnson also highly approves of this item. “Its slim design allows for easy storage in a tote or handbag and 4-in-1 charging means all of your devices can get ‘juiced up’ simultaneously,” says Johnson, who loves this product.

For the Special Occasion

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick

“I swear by this lipstick,” says Iwinski. “I’ve started masking on planes and in crowded terminals again, but even when I’m wearing a mask this doesn’t budge.”

The Perfect Carry-on

Away The Large Everywhere Bag

“ Lighter is always better for packing. Having your garments, toiletries, and electronics in one place makes a weekend jaunt or short business trip that much easier,” says Jonathan Johnson, the current director of in-flight experience at  Aero and, previously, a flight attendant for 11 years. Johnson’s favorite weekender bag ? The large Everywhere Bag from Away. “With an interior organization system and water bottle pocket, you’ll be prepared for every part of your journey,” he says.

For Puffy Eyes

Loops Beauty Weekly Reset Eye Mask 5 Pack

Whether you’re ready for a multistep skin-care routine on a plane or just want a little pick-me-up, these eye masks from Loops make a great travel companion. The five-pack tackles under-eye puffiness and imparts brightness, and since you only need to keep them on for ten minutes, they are the easiest way to add a little pampering on the go. Plus, they’re one of Camila Mendes’s favorite products to take with her while traveling.

To Keep You From Losing Your Passport

Normest AirTag Travel Wallet

“Depending on what type of traveler you are, you may find yourself in frenzied panic looking for that passport you strategically placed in the pocket of your briefcase purse or tote. It seems like no matter how many times we check to make sure they’re there, passports, credit cards and driver’s licenses grow legs just before we need them,” says Johnson. “The Normest AirTag Travel wallet not only wraps all of your most important travel documents and bank cards in premium leather, but it protects them with RFID blocking and a nifty storage area to nest an Apple AirTag. The location of your documents are now just a click away on your iOS device.”

For the Person Who Would Rather Read

Kindle Paperwhite

Nothing says “well-seasoned traveler” like a Kindle. When you’re constantly living out of a carry-on, this Paperwhite Kindle is the best companion. Iwinski loves how easy it is to carry. Plus, with only 8 GB, you can store thousands of titles and don’t have to worry about recharging for weeks.

To Save Your Dry Cuticles

Olive and June Cuticle Serum

Cuticle care may be the last thing you want to think about when you’re traveling, but you’ll want to use this cuticle serum pen from Olive and June every five seconds. Plus it doubles as a great stocking stuffer !

For the Softest Hands

Dionis Milk & Honey Goat Milk Hand Cream

“I make my own amenity kit, like the kind we pass out in first class, and I use this hand cream every time I travel,” Iwinski shares. It’s rich and moisturizing without ever being greasy, and it smells like honey.

To Keep Your Skin Moisturized

Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream

If your skin has been personally victimized by the air conditioning in a flight, Johnson recommends this moisturizer from Dr. Barbara Sturm. “All sizes are TSA compliant so this face cream is a must for carry-on.”

For the New Mom

CERES CHILL Breastmilk Chiller Reusable Storage Container

For a new mom who’s on the go (literally), this breastmilk chiller storage is the way to continue breastfeeding while traveling. Iwinski recently weaned her 18-month-old but said this was her favorite travel accessory while pumping. “I bought two, and they kept my milk ice-cold for about 36 hours without having to lug a separate cooler around the globe,” she says. Plus she still uses it as (and we quote) a “kick-ass water bottle.”

If You Like to Travel in Style

Coach Sammy Top Handle

Some travel plans require stepping off the plane and heading right to an event or nice dinner. In that case, make sure to take a cute bag like this one as your personal item.

For the Movie Buff

Twelve South AirFly

Barnabas Carrega, founder and CEO of the GR8 Experience , is a master of curating luxe and seamless travel experiences. When it comes to technology, a Bluetooth transmitter is essential. “As more people travel with Bluetooth headphones, we tend to forget that most airplane entertainment systems still require plug-in headphones,” says Carrega. Airfly is the solution to this. It is a portable adapter that plugs into headphone jacks and connects to your wireless headphones. Now you can use your personal earbuds without relying on low-quality airline headphones.

Because Comfort Is Key

Ralph Lauren Cable Cashmere Travel Gift Set

For the luxury traveler in your life, look no further than this cashmere set that elevates any airplane experience. “Instead of using the uncomfortable blankets and pillows that airlines give out, I recommend investing in a high-quality cashmere travel set. Ralph Lauren makes a fantastic gift set that includes a 100 percent cashmere pillow, blanket, and eye mask,” says Carrega.

For Your Work-From-Anywhere Friend

Outsite Gift Cards

Everyone has that friend who’s taken full advantage of the remote-work lifestyle (hi, it’s me!). The only downfall? Guaranteeing that you have solid Wi-Fi anywhere in the world. Gifting a membership to Outsite ensures they’ll actually make that Zoom meeting.

For the Weekend Traveler

Calpak Terra 26L Laptop Duffel Backpack

Sometimes a smartly designed backpack does the trick for short-term travel. Leave the carry-on at home and gift this option instead for that person in your life who likes to travel lightly.

If You’d Rather Not Use Hotel Hair Products

Ouai Get-a-Ouai Kit

I’ve recently started bringing my own hair-care set instead of hoping that hotels will have quality products, and I can confirm that it’s been a game changer for my beauty routine.

If Planes Make Your Ears Hurt

Loop Quiet Ear Plugs

These earplugs are reusable and sleek, and they come in different sizes for optimal fit. They’re a must-have travel companion if you’re a light sleeper or sensitive to noise.

The 41 Best Gifts For People Who Love To Travel All The Time

...according to frequent flyers.

best travel gifts france candle suitcase and hat

"I hate traveling," said no one ever. Name one person who wouldn't love to go on a little vacation right now—I won't hold my breath. It's likely that you have at least one loved one (or person you're following on Instagram) who's constantly traveling. And as much as the frequent traveler in your life may awaken the green-eyed monster within you, they're probably also the first person you go to for tour, restaurant, and sightseeing recommendations.

Of course, you'll never go wrong with a high-quality, durable suitcase , but there are some unique gift ideas here, too. From a mini clothes steamer that Women's Health's lifestyle director Lindsay Geller swore by on her honeymoon to some comfy slip-on sneakers our deputy editor of content strategy, Amanda Lucci, won't travel without, there's something for every type of traveler below.

Travelon Anti-Theft Crossbody Bag

Anti-Theft Crossbody Bag

Nobody ever wants to have their phone or credit card numbers stolen, but it's a particularly nightmarish experience while traveling (especially on a solo trip!). This stylish geometric anti-theft crossbody is one of Geller's favorites. Bonus: As compact as it may look, she says it holds a lot .

BAGSMART Electronic Organizer

iWALK Small Portable Charger

Small Portable Charger

This little portable charger is super lightweight, and can change a phone fully in about two times in a charge. "I was worried about needing maps/etc. in Greece and wanted this just in case," says Andriakos. "It also came in handy on the ferry rides/flights when I didn't have an outlet but wanted to use my phone a lot."

CHI Steam Handheld Garment Steamer

Handheld Garment Steamer

Geller swore this steamer was a life-saver on her honeymoon. "I love how lightweight it is, and the shape is more akin to a flat iron than other small steamers so it's easier to fit in a suitcase," she says.

Leze The Label Mira Cardicoat

Mira Cardicoat

There's nothing like snuggling up with a cozy sweater on a long flight, and this one is great because it looks so cute that you wouldn't think it's actually super comfortable, too. Better yet? It's specifically designed to be wrinkle-resistant, so it can easily be squished in to any carry-on.

Our deputy digital editor, Maridel Reyes, considered hers a savior for her (humid) trip to Southeast Asia.

Peter Pauper Press Travel Checklist Journal

Slip Eye Mask navy silk eye mask on white background

Slip Eye Mask

Saks Fifth Avenue

This beloved sleep mask from Slip might be as close as you can get to giving the gift of some shuteye on long flights. Made of silk, it fits snugly (and smoothly) over the eyes, blocking out intrusive beams of light from that pesky seatmate's window.

For the friend who doesn't want to mess up her pricey lash extensions or mascara, Slip has a uniquely designed contour sleep mask .

Monos Metro beige Backpack on white background

Monos Metro Backpack

The Metro Backpack from Monos is unique, thanks to a QuickSnap modular kit system — in other words, this multipurpose case can be attached to the outside of the backpack for extra room or used as a dopp kit and stored inside. Vegan leather details give pricier designer bags a run for their money.

Alastin Skincare

Alastin Jet-Setting Skincare Set

The Alastin Jet-Setting Skincare Set covers the nighttime bases with a travel-size gentle cleanser, calming moisturizer, brightening treatment, and spa headband. The latter blurs redness in seconds for a second-skin finish that will have them leaving their light-coverage foundations behind.

Calpak Luka Duffle Bag on white background

Calpak Luka Duffle Bag

The Calpak Luka Duffle Bag deserves a round of applause for its soft shell design alone, a flexible (but durable) material that expands to include all of their essentials — even if their definition of essentials includes not one, not three, but 17 sweaters. It's large enough for a weekend trip and the trolley sleeve makes it a great personal item for longer trips.

Tower 28 Mini SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray red bottle on white background

Tower 28 Mini SOS Facial Spray

Each of the delicately-scented formulas is fast-absorbing and moisturizing (never sticky), so use them to your heart's content.

Lilac Open Story Packing Cubes on gray background

Open Story Packing Cubes

If their packing style consists of "dumping the entire contents of their closet into a suitcase," Open Story's Packing Cubes will make their mess…well, a lot less messy. (Shoutout to every missing sock left behind in a hotel closet.)

Be sure to check out our ultimate guide for gifts for travelers – it covers everything from family adventures to solo traveling gift ideas.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to start adding these gifts to your cart. Who knows, you may even be inspired to start planning a backpacking adventure of your own!

Carry-on Essentials

Experience gifts for budget travelers, stocking stuffers.

It always starts with the carry-on, and the balancing act of keeping the essentials at the ready so the journey to the destination is as comfortable as possible. For those who travel often, having these items can be a game changer as far as comfort is concerned, so if your traveler doesn’t already have any of these essential travel items, they’ll make great travel gifts.

1. Portable Charger

2. travel pillow, 3. water bottle, 4. magnetic storage bag.

Exploring the great outdoors is a priority for backpackers, and keeping the outdoors outside has been a struggle since the dawn of time. This gear and shoe storage bag by Luno clamps right onto the side of your car with magnets and keeps all of your muddy belongings separate.

OnlyInYourState editor Sarah McCosham swears by this storage bag; “This is awesome for camping trips – it keeps the funk out of the car!”

5. Packing Cubes

Those who travel on a budget tend to prioritize memories over things, which is why we love experience-based gifts. Some of the best gifts for backpackers are experiences, unique stays, and memberships that they can use again and again. Sure, part of a backpacker’s thrill is the craftiness that comes along with the journey, but every now and then, it’s nice to splurge on an amazing opportunity like a night at a fancy resort or an incredible tour.

6. ResortPass

7. virgin experience gifts, 8. city experiences gift card, 9. alltrails + membership.

If your budget backpacker seems to have everything they need, then it’s time to get creative with these fun stocking stuffers everyone will love.

10. World Map Laundry Bag

11. a good eye mask, 12. camera tripod.

Did any of these gifts for travelers on a budget make it into your cart? Are you inspired to start planning your own adventure? Let us know! If you have any recommendations, let us know in the comments, and we may include them in a future article!

My Grandparents Have Been Traveling for 60 Years — Here Are the 11 Comfy Items They Always Pack As Retirees

Keep reading for travel advice from my grandparents who say they’re in the “golden age” of their life.

travel life gift

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

Being a travel writer, it only makes sense that my passion for exploration runs in the family — after all, where else could I have inherited from? Both sets of my grandparents are avid travelers, taking on a number of international trips per year to destinations like Thailand , Italy , France , and so much more.

My travel-loving grandparents have entered the “golden age” of their life, as my grandpa refers to it, enjoying retired life by exploring the world . But of course, that ability to travel with ease — and joy — comes with a fool-proof list of travel accessories to make the journey as smooth as humanly possible. With so much experience under their belts, I’ve tapped my grandparents to curate a list of their travel must-haves, including everything from their favorite slip-on sneakers to a portable walking cane in case of emergencies. Keep reading for their go-tos starting at just $5.

Zomake Portable Metal Shoe Horn

“I don’t go anywhere without my pocket shoe horn,” my grandpa told me on our phone call the other night. I should’ve known it was going to be his first bit of advice to share with other retiree travelers, because for my entire life he’s had shoe horns littered all over his house (and in his bags) to assist him in putting on his loafers, sneakers, and other shoes everywhere from the front door to the rental cabin to the doctor’s office. He sent me the link to this handy $5 portable one, and even though I’m just 24 I’m considering adding it to my cart to make my life a bit easier, too.

Kizik Madrid Slip-on Sneakers

My other grandpa doesn’t keep a shoe horn on him anymore because he has replaced nearly all of his shoes with these slip-on sneakers that he calls “the best invention since sliced bread,” and says that he “wishes he’d had a pair his entire life.” His devout love for these sneakers has also turned my grandma into a convert, and now the two happily sport their Kiziks all over Thailand walking from food stall to food stall.

Samsonite Freeform 21-inch Carry-on Suitcase

My grandparents don’t have patience for heavy, squeaky luggage, and that’s why they swear by this Samsonite carry-on that comes equipped with four smooth-gliding wheels and a spacious-yet-compact build to keep all of their belongings conveniently packed. This suitcase weighs in at just over 6 pounds, which means that they don’t have to worry about lugging around a heavy bag and risk hurting themselves. They each have one of their own — and they’ll probably never travel with any other bag.

Vera Bradley Triple Zip Hipster Crossbody Bag

Vera Bradley

As much as my grandmother loves her fancy shoulder bags, she says they’re “too heavy for long trips now.” That’s why she now travels with a lightweight crossbody bag that’s still spacious enough to hold onto her phone, passport, and other personal belongings but won’t weigh her down. She loves this Vera Bradley one for its “fashionable look and ability to keep [her] things close.”

Auvon Travel Pills Organizer

When you’re traveling, it’s important to keep all of your pills in one convenient spot. My grandparents have one of these boxes that not only organizes all of their medications by the day of the week, but also by the time of day (morning and night) to streamline taking — and remembering — your medications. My grandma also advised me to tell other travelers to “pack an extra few days worth of medication just in case your trip gets delayed or extended.” Oh, and this set just so happens to be on sale for $8 for Prime Members.

Ostrich Pillow Compression Socks

My grandparents have found that compression socks help relieve some of the discomfort and swelling that comes from prolonged restricted movement by stimulating circulation in your legs. And while they’ve tried a variety of pairs (including this Charmking Compression Sock Set of Eight ) their current favorite is this one from Ostrich Pillow that I introduced them to. They absolutely love these socks for their “impressive comfortable compression,” so much so that they feel confident enough in them to brave our upcoming 24+-hour travel day to Thailand.

Vaunn Portable Folding Cane

My grandpa sometimes needs extra assistance walking, especially during long travel days, and that’s why he always keeps this convenient portable folding cane on him. We got it for him last year, and since then he keeps it on him if his knee acts up or needs some help with balance. He finds that it's better than traveling with his typical cane because he doesn’t have to worry about “a larger one taking up too much space in the airplane cabin or through TSA.”

Techshare Magnifying Glass and Light Keychain

On a recent visit with my grandpa, he pulled out this handy dandy two-in-one magnifying glass and light at the dimly lit restaurant we were at and used it to read the menu and order his meal. I asked him when he started carrying it around, and he said his friend recommended it a year ago for reading handouts and other information while on-the-go. I found it utterly genius, and even better that it hooks onto his keys — all for a mere $8. It’s now a must-have for him that he can’t recommend enough to make travel smooth for other retirees.

Cabeau Evolution S3 Neck Pillow

I gave my grandma this neck pillow last Christmas to replace her old one, and when I asked her how it held up, she said it’s so comfortable that as soon as she sits down on a flight, she immediately falls asleep and stays asleep the entire time. She’s also a fan of its convenient carrying bag that she said allows her “to keep it in her purse to rest in the car” as well.

Loft Drop Shoulder Cardigan

Both sets of my grandparents live in South Florida, and between the humid heat and blasting indoor AC, a good cardigan is an everyday and travel staple for them both. They both love styles like this lightweight one from Loft (and both happen to absolutely love everything from Loft) to add a bit of cozy warmth no matter where they are. Even better, this stylish one is on sale for $33 right now.

Quince Women’s Linen Pants

Toward the end of my call with my grandma, I asked her if there was any other advice that she’d  like to share, and she said that travelers “shouldn’t waste their time with jeans or uncomfortable pants,” and instead should opt for a pair of pull-on pants that go on easy while remaining comfortable and breathable. She actually found this specific $40 pair from Quince in an advertisement online and has been obsessed ever since. I mean really, she has three pairs and counting.

The 5 vacation costs that stress people out the most -- and how to cut them.

A vacation should be a relaxing experience. Unfortunately, it often doesn't work out that way. Lots of travelers experience financial stress while they're on vacation. You expect to get away from it all and enjoy yourself, only to find that you're constantly thinking about how much you're spending and how it's going to affect your finances back home.

Recently, Empower conducted a survey where it identified travel-related sources of financial stress. Here are the top five, the percentage of Americans who have experienced each one, and what you can do about them.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

1. Dining out for every meal (51%)

If you've ever worried about your food spending on a vacation, you're definitely not alone. Over half of Americans have felt the same way.

Restaurant spending can sneak up on you while traveling. Many travelers budget for airfare and a hotel, but don't spend much time planning for meals. When you're going out for two or three meals per day, that could easily add $1,000 or $2,000 to your travel expenses.

What to do: I've done my fair share of stressing about food costs, too. Here's what has helped me:

Make dining a part of your travel budget. I normally plan for food to cost anywhere from $100 to $300 per day, and by preparing for this ahead of time, I'm not unpleasantly surprised in the middle of a trip.

Book accommodations that include breakfast. Some hotel credit cards get you free breakfast, which is a good way to save.

Look for alternatives to dining at restaurants. You could grab cheaper street food from time to time or get sandwiches and snacks at a grocery store.

2. Future credit card bills (29%)

About 3 in 10 Americans stress about future credit card bills in the middle of a vacation. It's hard to completely relax on a trip when you know you'll have debt waiting for you at home -- especially with the average credit card interest rate being above 20%.

What to do: Set up a savings account to use as a travel fund. Figure out how much money you'll need, and start transferring money to your travel fund every month. It may take a little longer to save up enough money for the trip you want, but you'll be able to pay your credit cards in full after your trip.

Looking for a savings account with a competitive APY? Check out The Ascent's top high-yield savings accounts.

3. Experience costs (27%)

Along with dining, experiences and activities are the other big travel expenses people have while on vacation. Not everything costs an arm and a leg. But if you want to do any expensive activities, such as fine dining or chartering a boat, those can put a dent in your travel budget. And even more affordable activities can add up over the course of a vacation.

What to do: Find a balance between low-cost and higher-priced activities. I like to start by figuring out which expensive activities are a must-do and which ones aren't as big a deal if they don't fit the budget.

After I've decided on those activities, I add in some cheaper, but still fun options for the rest of the trip. Art galleries, walking tours, and a day at the beach are all good choices that don't cost much.

4. Local transportation costs (24%)

Airfare may be the main transportation cost, but getting around once you're on the ground can be costly, too. In many cities, Uber and Lyft rides normally cost at least $15 to $20. If you take a couple of those per day, that could be $75 to $100.

What to do: The best way to get around varies from city to city. So before your trip, search online to see what other travelers recommend for the destination you'll be visiting.

Some places, including much of western Europe, are walkable and have excellent public transportation. If you're going to an area like this, it may be a waste of money to rent a car or pay for ride-hailing services every day. By learning about your options before you go, you can avoid overpaying for transportation.

5. Gift/souvenir costs (22%)

The last financial stressor in the top five is gift and souvenir costs. It's not always easy to find something for every friend and family member. It's not cheap, either. As anyone who has visited a museum gift shop knows, cool trinkets can be surprisingly expensive.

What to do: Don't breathe a word of your upcoming trip to friends or family. They can't expect a gift if they don't know you went anywhere. If they ask where you were, just tell them you were doing a digital fast.

If you'd rather not lie to some of the most important people in your life, just set a reasonable souvenir budget. You can find fun gifts at every price point. Most people aren't expecting you to bring back anything that breaks the bank. They'll be happy you thought about them on your trip and decided to bring them something, regardless of what it costs.

Don't let financial worries ruin your vacation

Planning ahead goes a long way toward having a stress-free vacation. If you don't have a travel fund already, set one up so you can make saving for vacations part of your routine. You may also want to check out travel rewards credit cards -- these are my favorite way to travel for less.

Once you're ready to go on vacation, decide how much you can spend on everything based on your travel savings. By doing a little more work before your trip, you can ensure that it's truly a relaxing getaway.

What Taylor Hill Can’t Live Without

travel life gift

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts — like their hair spray and electric toothbrush. We asked model Taylor Hill, who recently launched her pet brand,  Tate & Taylor , about the “magical” moisturizer , Stanley-cup dupe, and book series she can’t live without.

Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream

This is my favorite moisturizer . I found out about it from a makeup artist on set about five years ago. I was working with them for three days straight, and they put a little bit of this on my face every single day. Usually, I start to break out or get dry by the third day because someone’s using products on me that I’m not used to. By the end of the third day, I was like, “What is that magical stuff?” They even noticed. They were like, “Wow, your skin is looking good. I think your face really likes this product.” I’ve been using it ever since. It seems thick when it first comes out of the container. Once you start massaging it in, it absorbs really quickly and thins out. The thickness is because it has zinc in it. It’s a skin-barrier repair cream. It’s great if you’re dealing with acne and healing scars, sun damage, or you overused a toner. I use it nightly, because I feel like it restores my skin best then. When I wake up in the morning, I literally feel like my skin is saying, “Hello, good morning!”

Rhode Peptide Lip Tint

I am obsessed with this. I’m a big texture person. How a lip product feels when you initially apply it is important. This one’s creamy and has more of a buttery consistency. I love that it’s not sticky, but it’s still shiny and gives that glossy effect. The tint is perfect because I don’t have to carry around a lip liner and three lip products in my bag. Maybe in the morning I’ll use a lip liner with this on top, but throughout the day this is all I need for touch-ups. I specifically like it in espresso, which I’m currently wearing. I love warmer nudes and deeper colors for my skin tone. I’ve tried other lip products in this color range, but this one is the best. Even if I put on a little bit, there’s still quite a bit of pigment, but it’s not so much that I can only lightly dab it on. I can put a really thick layer on too and it still looks good.

A Court of Thorns and Roses Paperback Box Set

For the longest time, friends were telling me to read this series. I read a lot of books, and it took me a while to get to this because I kept saying I’d start it after this book, and then I’d pick up another one. Then, before my honeymoon, I realized I needed to bring more than one book because we’d be gone for three weeks. I ended up bringing this series, and it took over my entire life. I read all five books before I was even back. They’re kind of big books, so they seem a little intimidating. But it’s a great story. It sucks you right in. If I could go back and reread them again for the first time, that would make me so happy. Anyone who’s looking for a book and wants to get into a series should read this one. It’ll change your life.

Béis The Commuter Backpack

I love Béis, especially for travel . I think they do it really well because the founder, Shay Mitchell, travels like a crazy person, like me! The backpack is great. There are all these amazing compartments, and it’s so well-thought-out. I could give you a whole little tour. I have mine right here. In the front pockets, I have my headphones, deodorant, lip gloss, and glasses. In the bigger main compartment, I have my notebook and a big book. It fits a lot. And then there’s the back zip, which is where I put my laptop and iPad. It makes it easy going through TSA, too, because it’s all compartmentalized.

Simple Modern 40 oz Tumbler

Everybody has the Stanley cup , but that thing is $65 or something. That’s crazy. And then I hear that it leaks. Apparently, people drive with it in their cup holder, they go over a bump, and then water gets everywhere. No, no, it can’t be doing that. So, I found this Simple Modern one. It’s a similar makeup to the Stanley cup, and it was $30. If you knock it over, water will come out because it has a straw. It’s not completely leak resistant. But I think it’s better because there’s a silicone thing around where the straw goes, so it hugs the straw better. I really like it, and I bring it with me everywhere. I walk around my house with it, and it does help me drink water. As Tinx says, it’s my “emotional support water bottle.”

Bala Bands

These are great, and you can get them from anywhere. I have a couple different types from different brands. I just throw them in my bag. They don’t add any extra weight to my suitcase , but they can add so much to a training session. Normally, I use them for legs. I put them either around my ankles or my knees and do glute bridges, squats, or walking movements. That really helps work the muscle. It’s like a sneaky way to add weight to a workout without adding weights. It makes it more difficult and challenging for the muscle to pull instead of lifting something heavy.

Wonderful Pistachios No Shells Sea Salt & Vinegar Pistachios

I love anything with salt and vinegar or pickles. I’m a salty person. I saw these already cracked pistachios at the airport in the salt and vinegar flavor, and I was like, Oh, there we go. That’s for me. It’s a healthier snack that you can take on the go. It just hits that salty craving for me.

Nekohama Matcha

A friend of mine, Sanne, makes this. She’s a Dutch model. She is amazing and has a fitness company. I’m always asking her for recipes and health advice. She started this matcha company, and it is incredible. It’s great quality. On the pack, it tells you exactly how to make it, like that you have to boil your water to only 70 degrees so it doesn’t burn the tea leaf. The best matcha latte I’ve ever had is when I make it with her matcha at home. It’s much less bitter than when I’ve gotten it at a coffee shop. If I need something, either first thing in the morning, after lunch, or an afternoon pick-me-up, that’s my go-to with a little almond milk.

Khaite x Oliver Peoples Black Cat Eyes

I love Khaite. I love everything it does. It’s an amazing brand. I saw that it did a collab with Oliver Peoples, and I liked that these frames are smaller. I have a small head, and the distance between my eyebrows and nose is quite small. Big frames go over my entire head and I look like a fly. I really love these cat-eye ones because it’s a small frame and you can still see my eyebrows when I wear them. I’m very specific on where eyewear sits on my face, and this just works for me.

The Mayfair Group Angels All Around You Crewneck

I travel so much, so I like wearing comfortable things to the airport. I do still like looking put-together, though. This brand does a great job of making things that look really cute but are still a sweatshirt and sweatpants . The matching set feels more like an outfit. It’s like I’m wearing pajamas but I look more put-together than just being in my pajamas.

West & Willow Pet Portrait

I’m really grateful that I have this in my house to remind me of my dog, Tate. I have all these little mementos throughout my home. This portrait’s very special, and people come over and are always like, “Oh, Tate. We love him. We miss him.” It’s also a really good gift for someone who has a pet or maybe recently lost a pet. It’s quite meaningful and can make your home feel more personalized.

Clean Paws No-Rinse Foaming Cleanser

This is hands down one of my favorite products as a dog mom in New York City. I use it on a daily basis. When I bring my dog on walks, we’ve been caught in the rain, stepped in a puddle, stepped in God knows what. I have this sitting by my front door. It’s a no-rinse foaming cleanser. It has a little scrubber on the end and you just pump it. It’s almost the consistency and texture of a foaming face wash. It comes out of this little scrubby, and you just take their paws and pump it and rub it on them. Then, you take a towel or a wipe, and you wipe the rest of the residue off. It’s an antimicrobial treatment, so it’s like a hand sanitizer in a way.
