The Freeport Nautical Mile, operated by the Village of Freeport , is a pitcuresque waterfront main street running along the Woodcleft Canal. Waterside dining and an active nightlife draw tourists and locals alike to enjoy this excellent representation of seaside living on Long Island. The Freeport Nautical Mile gives residents and tourists of the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County the opportunity to escape the urban and suburban drawl and to travel back to Long Island's maritime past.

Antique lighting shines over omenade style sidewalks wide enough to accomodate the hundreds of people who come out in the summer to enjoy the night scene and the beautiful warm weather of spring and summer. Party boats line up along Woodcleft Canal and set sail in the evening, providing breathtaking views of the South Shore from the East Bay and the Atlantic.

The Nautical Mile is one of the South Shore's best family friendly attractions. The Crow's Nest Mini Golf course provides 18-holes of friendly competition along the canal's edge. A four-acre waterfront park and marina, called Sea Breeze is one of the most recent additions to the Nautical Mile, and visitors to the Mile enjoy the many benches along the boardwalk under antique-style lighting, looking out onto the water.  Additionally, visitors can enjoy eating at the many restaurants  in the area, or shopping at the stores and boutiques that line the canal.

Dining Seafood lovers are sure to love the collection of clam shacks, oyster bars, and other restaurants that can be found on the Nautical Mile. From mussels and clams to blue crabs and lobsters , there’s a whole slew of fresh seafood to pick from when you’re located right outside one of the busiest docks in the area! Of course if you’re not in the mood for fish, Freeport’s premier restaurants have plenty of other delicacies and local favorites to dine on as well.

Ice Cream Walking from shop to shop and eating lunch on an outdoor patio is a fantastic way to spend a summer afternoon, but sometimes the cool breeze coming off the water just isn’t enough keep the heat off. On a day like that, the perfect solution is to stop by one of the Nautical Mile’s ice cream parlors to cool down with a sweet frozen concoction. Of course, ice cream is just as tasty in the spring and autumn too!

Fish Markets One of the best parts of visiting a busy port or dock is that if you go at the right time you’re almost bound to encounter fishing boats returning with a full day’s haul, and that means the local fish markets can get their hands on the freshest seafood possible. Whether you’re looking shellfish, whitefish, or anything else from the nearby waters you’re sure to find it at one of these markets.

Nautical Mile Cruises Freeport, Long Island

Nautical mile cruises are a great way to spend time on the water and away from the crowds. An evening spent on “your own private yacht” is an unforgettable experience. I’ve done it and had a fantastic time.

These cruises offer everything from fishing expeditions to dinner cruises to burial at sea.

No, I’m not joking, you can book a cruise for that purpose, and many people do.

But on to happier things…

On the Nautical Mile cruises are available from 2 companies and are designed to meet all budgets and desires. Almost anything is possible.

All of the companies offer the following in one form or another:

• Public/private dinner cruises
• Parties of all kinds (sweet sixteen, bachelorette…)
• Corporate outings
• Fund raisers
• Inshore and offshore fishing expeditions
• Weddings and anniversaries

For the most part whatever you want can be arranged. There are no gambling cruises though, the casino boats stopped sailing in 2011.

If you like to fish you've come to the right place. Both companies listed below offer extensive fishing charters all week long.

The Miss Freeport V is great for birthday parties, fishing trips, buffet dinner cruises, DJ & dancing etc.. Anything you can do in a catering hall you can do on the Miss Freeport V. 

This is a more upscale boat that the Miss Freeport V and of course that's reflected in the price. This boat has 3 levels. One for dining, one for the bar, and one for dancing. I've been on boats like this and they are very nice.

As the name suggests Captain Lou has more than one boat at your disposal and offers both fishing trips and dinner/party cruises. The differences between the boats below is similar to those above. Size, luxury, and services offered vary from boat to boat.

Husband and I did the Sunset cruise . Website stated Calypso music was going to be played on the boat but there was a man just playing a guitar singing random songs by Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Diamond, etc.  It was o.k. but we were looking forward to the Calypso/Carribean music. Also, at least one drink should be included in the price, then pay if you want another drink or 2.

Are you ready for the 411? Here we go...recently did a sunset cruise with Freeport Water Taxi & Tours with my sorority sisters. I highly recommend this adventure with anyone who is looking for a nice date night or with a group. This is not a large boat so don't expect this yacht to appear. The staff are the most friendliest people with great customer service. We were running late and while they run strictly on time, they were very accommodating to work with us and our group. We had two individuals who use canes and they took their time to assist us getting them on the ship. The cruise is about 1.5 hours and is pretty smooth. There was some wind so it was a little rocky at one point but it was just when we were about to turn around. The entertainment on the ship is excellent. Christian is absolutely amazing on the steel pans and is a great addition to the cruise . You should definitely check this out!

3 of my girlfriends and I went on the Sunday sunset cruise and it was such a good time! Boat was fun and the staff was friendly... it was such a beautiful sunset ; definitely would like to do this again towards the end of summer.

I book this for my Bff birthday. A little something extra to do. It was nice. The scenery is beautiful. Learned a few facts about Long Island. Everyone was extremely friendly! I thought the drink was pretty decent and I'm picky as hell. The price of drinks is great! We had a good time. I plan to take my boyfriend next time. And we are trying to get a group together for the 730 pm calypso band sunset cruise ride. I think the price is just right!

Great experience!! We opted for the Sunday evening sunset cruise . A great way to wind down before the work week. Super friendly staff. Stephan was great. Told a little bit about where we were and took photos for people. Drinks were good and appreciated that there were not overpriced. If you want a party boat-this isn't for you. If you want to see a beautiful LI sunset with a friendly crew, have a drink and hold hands with your other half...this is a great way to do it.

As my friend and I were walking we noticed two girls selling tickets for the Sunset cruise and we decided to buy tickets. This boat is not fancy and a bit plain but the crew was super nice and knowledgeable. The boat goes and the scenery its pretty. I found it a bit expensive for the experience but I'm glad we did it.

Crew was very friendly and the ride was nice. Had a groupon for the Sunset cruise . BUT BE WARNED- this is just a water taxi, nothing fancy about it or the drinks at all. It left me a little disappointed because when their groupon advertise as " cruise ", I was expecting a much larger and more decent boat.

• Chevron down What is the Maximum capacity on the boat?

The maximum capacity of the boat in normally 28 passengers + crew. Due to COVID-19 current protocols, we are capping the capacity at 20 passengers (This may change at any time)

• Chevron down What Types of Cruises do you offer?

We offer an array of cruises including one-hour Bay Cruises, Happy Hour Cruises, Sunset Cruises, Eco Tours (Including Seal Watching tours during the late Fall and Early Spring)

• Chevron down What is the Boat’s schedule?

We are currently sailing on Thursday through Sunday. During July & August, we also offer our Tuesday night Trivia Sunset Cruise. Two-hour Private Cruises can be booked 7 days a week

• Chevron down What are the prices of the cruises?

Depending on the cruise, prices range from $15 – $35, Shuttle Service to/from Freeport & Point Lookout is $20 each way. Special Events prices are normally $45-$60.

• Chevron down Do you allow Pets on the boat?

We are 100% Pet Friendly on all of our cruises!

• Chevron down What is your cancellation policy?

For Public Cruises, you can get a full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours before your cruise. For Private Cruises, you can get a full refund up to 48 hours before your cruise. As of the 2022 Season, the Memorial Weekend Airshows are Non-refundable. If the show is cancelled, you will receive a voucher of equal value that can be used on any of our cruises.

There is a large municipal parking lot directly across the street. The meters this year are .50/hour. There is also free parking on the street where available

• Chevron down What time should I get to the boat?

We require our customers to arrive 30 minutes early for check-in. Please note that if you don’t arrive 5 minutes prior to sailing time, all stand by guests will be boarded and there will be no refund.

• Chevron down What is your Weather Policy?

We want all of our guests to have a great experience on the boat. With that in mind, if there is inclement weather, we will make the determination whether the cruises will be cancelled or will sail. We will ALWAYS cancel if we deem weather conditions will make sailing unsafe. If we cancel due to adverse weather, you can choose to reschedule, receive a voucher of an equal amount to be used on any future cruise or receive a full refund.

• Chevron down Can we bring our own drinks on the boat?

Since we are a New York State Licensed Bar, it is illegal to bring your own alcohol on the boat.  

• Chevron down Do you serve food on the boat?

Sort of! We serve a light fare including chips and soft pretzels. You are welcome to bring your own food onboard.

Yes, Please feel free to bring any food you’d like on the boat  

• Chevron down Where does the Water Taxi stop?

The Freeport Water Taxi & Tour boat offers a shuttle to and from Freeport and Point Lookout. We offer this service on any of our public cruises. The price is $20 each way

• Chevron down What should we wear on the boat?

Our cruises are a totally casual experience! Rubber soled shoes or sneakers are advisable since the boat is constantly moving. We do suggest that you bring a few layers of clothing in case it gets chilly outside! Also, sunscreen is advisable during daytime cruises.

• Chevron down What types of safety precautions are taken on the boat?

We will always keep our passengers safe while cruising. To that point, there is NO standing on the seats or storage box at any time. There is NO running on the boat at any time. While docking, all passengers must be in their seats. Our boat is a USCG Inspected vessel and goes through a vigorous safety inspection every year. In the unlikely case of emergency, there are Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s) for every passenger onboard regardless of their size.  

• Chevron down Can I get Seasick on the boat?

We strictly sail on the bay and since we started Freeport Water Taxi & Tours, we have never had a passenger get seasick. If you truly feel this may be an issue, we suggest you consult your local pharmacy about your options.

We always suggest that you book a cruise on our website, www.FreeportWaterTaxi.com . There are convenient prompts that will guide you through the booking process. If you are having difficulty, You can always call us for assistance, 516-521-7744

• Chevron down How do your private cruises work?

Private cruises are offered 7 days a week. If you are interested in booking a weekend Private Cruise, we suggest you give us a call so we can plan the best time that works for you! Private Cruise pricing ranges from $500-$700 for a 2-Hour cruise. Live music is available on any Private Cruise. On Saturday evenings, live music is included in the price of the cruise.

• Chevron down Do any of your cruises have live music?

Yes, every Saturday night, we have live music on our 6pm Happy Hour Cruise as well as our Sunset Cruise. On select Sundays, we also have live music on our 3pm Bay Cruise and our 5 & 6pm Happy Hour Cruises. On all other cruises, you will enjoy Caribbean themed music from our custom sound system.

• Chevron down Are there any job opportunities at Freeport Water Taxi & Tours?

Yes, we are always looking for good people to work with us. Job include, Captain’s, crew, bartending and sales. Captain’s must have a Master upgrade on their USCG License.

• Chevron down Is the boat covered or have any shaded areas?

Yes, two thirds of the boat has a solid roof to give passengers relief from the sun. If it gets chilly, the boat also has clear vinyl windows that can be lowered to make it more comfortable.

• Chevron down Can I get wet on the boat?

Maybe! Because of the design of the boat, we have what we call a SPLASH ZONE in the very front of the boat. This area occasionally gets “wash” from the wakes of other boats; not unlike the log flume rides at most amusement parks! We recommend that you wear rubber soled shoes or sneakers when sailing with us. If you are wearing expensive shoes, we suggest that you either take them off or move to the middle of the boat.

• Chevron down What type of music do you have on the boat?

We are a Caribbean themed boat. Most of the music you will hear on the boat is the sounds of the islands, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, Zac Brown etc. On Saturdays and select Sundays, we offer Live Music, usually Steel Drum or Guitar

We offer a full bar including Beer, Wine and Spirits. We also have a variety of tropical specialty drinks to complete your cruising experience.

Yes, we have a marine head onboard for our customers use.
