The group will return with a run of live dates in England across July this year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of their iconic album, ‘The Fat Of The Land’.

Writing on social media, the group said: “We can’t wait to get back onstage to play our tunes for the people again. The 25th anniversary of ‘Fat Of The Land’ felt like the right time for us to step up.”

They also hinted that new music could follow too.

They wrote: “We’ll be droppin tunes from all our albums and maybe some shit u haven’t heard before.”

They concluded by saying that they are dedicating the shows to late frontman Keith Flint, adding: “This one’s for Flinty…Now let’s fuckin go!”

The Prodigy  last week paid fresh tribute to their late frontman Keith Flint to mark the third anniversary of his death.

After they previously paid tribute to Flint in March 2021 , The Prodigy once again marked the anniversary of the singer’s passing with a social media post in his honour.

Sharing a trio of images, including one of Flint on stage, The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett and Maxim wrote: “Its been three years … We miss u every single day brother, but we feel u always with and around us.

“Your Fire will never go out. Stay Punk brother. We live forever!”

Back in September, a mural honouring Flint was unveiled in Hackney in east London to mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 .

The Crowdfunder-funded artwork was done by the street artist Akse in partnership with the music and mental wellbeing festival Headstock .

Speaking about the mural, Howlett said: “Respect to everyone for coming together to make this happen for a cause so close to us. Akse has done Keef proud.”

Headstock founder Atheer Al-Salim added: “Keith Flint was the original firestarter. He was a true trailblazer in electronic music, and I was lucky enough to see him perform with The Prodigy on a number of occasions.

“Off-stage, Keith struggled with his mental health, and he talked candidly about his ‘dark periods’. Tragically, this culminated in him taking his own life. We’ve created this mural to help remember Keith and ensure that his flame continues to burn brightly – but also to raise awareness of Shout 85258, and the incredible 24/7 text support service it provides.

“We hope that the mural will help anyone that sees it know that confidential support is just a text message away.”

Extra info: Review by Glenn Rossington, www.thisissoundcheck.co.uk: Losing a band member is always a tricky situation to be in, but when you lose one under sad circumstances as The Prodigy did in 2019, there is always a question of whether a band can survive this and can they do the legacy proud. On one of the hottest days in the UK this Summer so far, a Sold Out o2 Academy is literally packed to the rafters. Before the band arrive on stage, the audience are treated to a high-octane DJ set from Jack Saunders that sees his blending hits and remixes, pulling shapes on stage and head banging like a hardcore mosher. By the time his set is over, it seems like most of the vibrant crowd are hot, sweaty and at least half of the guys are topless. Needless to say this crowd are up for it big time. The lights dim, an air raid siren screams out and the audience go wild as The Prodigy make their way to the fore. Liam Howlett come to the front of the stage arms aloft and grinning at the reaction the crowd are giving. Live guitarist Rob Holliday and drummer Liam Crabtree take their positions. Howlett is at the ready on decks as frontman Maxim strides on stage questioning “Are you ready? Birmingham… are you ready?” as the notes of ‘Breathe’ kicks in. The Prodigy are in the middle of their first set of dates since Keith Flint’s passing. There are a few references to him tonight, but the whole set feels like an intense tribute to him. ‘Omen’ is the second song of the set and by now the audience and band are in tune with each other and giving it their all. Maxim was always a great frontman in his own right, but tonight he is carrying the torch and putting on an effortless performance. Tracks from the bands’ recent albums ‘The Day Is My Enemy’ (2015) and ‘No Tourists’ (2018) are given a thunderous reception having been well engraved in to the fans’ memories by now. ‘Light Up The Sky’, ‘Need Some1’, ‘Get Your Fight On’, ‘Wild Frontier’ and ‘Roadblox’ see the massive with their arms aloft, punching out the lyrics. A mid-set reprise of ‘Omen’ is brief but gives way to the most poignant moment of the night; ‘Firestarter’. Traditionally this was Keith’s song. As the intro booms out around the venue, the lights dip and green lasers dance around the venue, giving way to a laser outline of Flint (much to the celebration of the audience) who continues to dance his way through the track. Flint of course is instantly recognisable in the lasers due to the trademarked horns from the video. The track is performed mostly as an instrumental, Maxim stands statuesque in the middle of the stage before screaming “He’s still here! He’s still fucking here! He’s in this room tonight, in your vibes! His presence is here!” as the track fades out – again this causes mass elation from the baying crowd. The breadth of older tracks tonight is a treat and really proves that The Prodigy have so much in the arsenal. ‘Voodoo People’, ‘No Good (Start The Dance)’, ‘Poison’ and an epic set closer of ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ make you feel like you have travelled back in time to an early 90’s rave. The number of guys in the audience now with their tops off, drenched in sweat has doubled, the audience are still on fire along with the band, and the bars can not hand out free water quickly enough – but no one seems to mind. The band return for an encore starting with ‘Take Me To The Hospital’ followed by ‘Invaders Must Die’. It feels like the whole venue has elevated to another plane. The final track is lifted from 2018’s ‘No Tourists’ and feels like it has taken on a new meaning now. ‘We Live Forever’. They close with an instrumental rendition of ‘Out of Space’ which sees everyone singing the chorus in unison to close a fantastic night. There has always been a sense of urgency and vibrancy to The Prodigy’s performance and tonight was no different. No body seems to know what the plans are for the band after the tour, and no body is rushing them. It was utterly fantastic to experience them again, and a minimal but worthy tribute to Keith Flint in the process.

Live Review: The Prodigy [Manchester, O2 Victoria Warehouse] July 19, 2022

Home » Live Review: The Prodigy [Manchester, O2 Victoria Warehouse] July 19, 2022

Electronic Dance titans The Prodigy announced earlier this year that they were going to be embarking on their first live tour since the tragic death of band member Keith Flint. It was described as being a celebration of 25 years since the group’s iconic album The Fat Of The Land was released. After a few shows around the country, the 19 th  of July saw the band hitting up Manchester on one of, if not, the hottest days of the year.

DJ, Jaguar Skills opened up for them with a set that got the hot and sweaty crowd riled up for the main act. His set mainly consisted of drum and bass and breakbeats however, the inclusions of metal acts, including Rage Against The Machine and System Of A Down as well as hip -hop such as Dizzee Rascal and Wu Tang Clan went down an absolute storm with the crowd. After over an hour of heart-racing, blood-pumping music, Jaguar Skills left the stage to the sound of ‘Teenage Kicks’ by The Undertones and the crowd stood in excitement for the main event.

After a while The Prodigy (Maxim, Rob Holliday, Leo Crabtree, Liam Howlett) walked onto the stage to riotous applause from the crowd. It was as if everyone had instantly forgotten about how hot they were, and consequently, were ready for the gig of a lifetime. Frontman Maxim asked the crowd if they were ready, and after what felt like minutes of silence the opening guitar lick of their smash hit ‘Breathe’ was released into the venue. As soon as the drums kicked in the crowd went insane with a level of energy that didn’t falter at all throughout the hour-plus set.

As the set progressed, the venue lit up with green lasers, and suddenly at the top of the stage an etching of a silhouette of the late great Keith Flint was projected and ‘Firestarter’ erupted in the building. The crowd’s response was deafening as people were screaming Keith’s lyrics at the top of their lungs. It was a beautiful moment in the set. Following the song’s ending the crowd started chanting “Keith” and frontman Maxim exclaimed “he’s still here!” over and over. It was a deeply emotional moment to be a part of.

The night continued with simply banger after banger. Highlights for me included the songs from 1995’s Music For The Jilted Generation whether it was ‘Break and Enter’, ‘No Good (Start The Dance)’ or the fan favourite ‘Voodoo People’. As well as this, newer songs such as ‘Need Some1’ worked incredibly well in the set as a sort of breather with its slower tempo in comparison to the breakbeats in earlier songs.

The Prodigy put on not only one of the loudest shows I have ever attended but one of the best. The setlist was all-killer no-filler and the band were on top form. I’d like to give special mention to frontman Maxim who kept the crowd riled up all night and didn’t miss a beat.

It’s sad to see the band without the icon that is Keith Flint, but it is admirable and nice to see the band continue on whilst still paying respect to him. The Prodigy whilst being 30-plus years in, continue to be one of the most electrifying live acts on the planet.

The Prodigy announce Army of the Ants tour: “We’re comin’ back for u the only way we know, full attack mode, double barrel,” says Liam Howlett

The band will play a run of UK dates later this year

The Prodigy have confirmed the Army of the Ants tour, which will see them playing shows across the UK in November 2023.

The band, led by Liam Howlett and also featuring Maxim, will kick off in Glasgow on 16 November, moving on to Manchester, Leeds, Brighton, Cardiff and Birmingham. The tour will finish on 24 November with a show at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Announcing the shows, Liam Howlett said: “‘Army of the Ants’ is a calling to the Prodigy peoples. We’re comin’ back for u the only way we know, full attack mode, double barrel…”

Following the death of frontman Keith Flint in 2019, The Prodigy returned to live performance in 2022, and are currently playing a run of international festivals. They will be supported on the UK tour by Soft Play, the British punk duo formerly known as Slaves.

In 2021, the band announced plans for an eponymous feature-length documentary telling their “raw, uncompromising and emotional story” . A release date for this has still to be confirmed.

Tickets for the Army of the Ants tour go on sale on 16 June at 9.30am .
