The World's Best Awards 2023
The year's top islands, cities, hotels, cruise lines, airports, and more — as voted by the readers of Travel + Leisure.
Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Few travelers are as insightful or engaged as the readers of Travel + Leisure , which is why our annual World’s Best Awards are considered the travel industry’s most trusted rankings. Each year, you share your opinions on a broad range of experiences based on recent trips you’ve taken. For 2023, we have a whopping 122 lists of reader favorites, including two brand-new categories: trains and luxury villa rental companies.
For this 28th edition of the awards, hundreds of thousands of votes were cast in an extensive survey that was open Oct. 24, 2022, through Feb. 27, 2023 via a secure website that was maintained and monitored by our research partner, Proof Insights. Respondents had the option to rate airlines, airports, car-rental companies, cities, cruise ships, destination spas, hotels, hotel brands, islands, luxury villa rental companies, safari outfitters, tour operators, trains, and U.S. national parks based on a number of characteristics for which they could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
After the survey closed, T+L and Proof Insights screened the responses to identify fraudulent votes, which were eliminated from the final tallies. You can read more about how voting works below in the survey methodology.
Cheers to you — and to this year’s winners!

BAFTAs TV Awards 2024: Winners and all the best moments as it happened
Did you enjoy the bafta tv awards.
Biggest takeaways from the show:
- Happy Valley, Top Boy and The Sixth Commandment the night's biggest winners
- The Bear and Succession snubbed
- HELLO! chats to Fred Sirieix about Gordon Ramsay becoming a new dad, as well as Nick Mohammed's exciting new project on the BAFTA red carpet
- We spot Baby Reindeer stars and their amazing looks on the red carpet
Welcome to the BAFTA TV Awards 2024!
Welcome to the BAFTA TV Awards 2024! My name is Emmy, I'm the TV Editor at HELLO! and I'll be your host for the evening (well, I'll be sharing lots of updates with you on here anyway).
From gorgeous red carpet looks to the very deserving (I'm sure) winners of the night, join me as I follow the evening of glitz and glamour, and I'll be sure to keep you posted with all of the winners, speeches, red carpet looks and of course, any juicy bits of gossip.
My Twitter username is @emmyfg so tweet me your thoughts so I can share them on here, and let's do this!
Very early, isn't it?
It's odd to think that somewhere in London everyone is decked in full glamour and about to have the evening of their lives while the kids outside my flat are still driving their parents (and me) crazy!
To be fair, the show doesn't kick off on ITV until 7 pm - here are all the details on how to watch!
It's called FASHUN
One of my favourite things about award ceremonies is, of course, the fashion! This red carpet has been especially gorgeous, with so many beautiful looks. Check them out...
READ: BAFTA Beauties! Best dressed from red carpet 2024 - Claudia Winkleman, Hannah Waddingham and more
Which one is your fave look? I am obsessed with Claudia Winkleman's all-white pantsuit game, though how beautiful and happy does Emily Atack look with her baby bump?!
As a redhead...
Sorry but as a fellow ginger I feel it's only right to give a special mention to Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson's AMAZING look. How gorgeous is she?
She's had a VERY busy couple of years, having starred in One Day, The Couple Next Door, The Outlaws and A Small Light - which one was your favourite?
Joe Lycett or Henry VIII?
Either way, a fabulous look. Hopefully, he won't be feeling too 'ruff' tomorrow after the celebrations...
Look, I've been in the sun all day.
A little reminder of the nominees
Before I get too into far into thinking I'm the latest recruit in the Fashion Police, here is a reminder of the nominations tonight:
READ: BAFTA TV nominations 2024
I'll be announcing all of the winners here and most definitely won't be sharing my opinions on whether they should have won or not (we'll see).
Anyway, here's Lorraine looking spectacular!
Can't forget the Memorable Moment Award!
BAFTAs Memorable Moment Award is the *only* one voted by the public, and ambassador Amy Hart joined us to fangirl about them all - which one would you like to see win?

BAFTA kicks off on BBC
At last! I was getting my news by carrier pigeon but now the BAFTA TV Awards are finally on our telly! How good are Rob and Romesh as presenters? I really enjoyed their advice to the winners ("Producers, if you must come up to the stage please do, but stand in the back and let the famous people speak"). It's giving Ricky Gervais.

What is Class Act about?
I can't stop thinking about Class Act winning Best International Show - so if, like me, you haven't really heard of it, here's what it's all about:
"A relentlessly ambitious working-class man becomes one of France's most controversial public figures in this fictionalized biopic about Bernard Tapie."
Lorraine Kelly accepts special award - and talks being a grandma soon!
Aww, you've got to love Lorraine Kelly! The star won the special award tonight and called it an "amazing" honour, especially after receiving a standing ovation!
She continued: "I never ever take it for granted that so many people trust me with their stories... I would just say don't pull up the ladder... I just want everyone to have the best opportunities."

90min's 2023/24 Premier League rookie of the year
With 24-year-old players being nominated for the 2023/24 Young Player of the Season, it's perhaps time to switch up the Premier League's annual awards.
In order to replace the rather broken Young Player of the Season award, we at 90min have cast our eyes across the Atlantic Ocean to find a more appropriate award, taking a leaf out of the NFL and NBA's book to create a Rookie of the Year award - handed out to the best newcomer in the division.
Here's our criteria:
- The player most be under 21-years-old.
- They must have played less than 1,000 minutes of top-flight football prior to the 2023/24 season.
- And they must be, you know, quite good.
And here's our Rookie of Year rankings:
6. Oscar Bobb
Club: Manchester City
Sure, he only started two Premier League games this season, but his 13 appearances overall gave Manchester City fans a glimpse of a rather special young talent.
Oscar Bobb has made the most of his minutes in 2023/24, using his eight minutes against Newcastle United particularly well to score one of the most important goals of City's season to earn a vital 3-2 win.
5. Conor Bradley
Club: Liverpool
Not a lot was expected of Conor Bradley when he quietly returned from his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last summer and a long-standing back injury in January.
Fast forward a few months and Bradley is now considered to be one of the best young full-backs in the world.
So...how has that happened?
Well, it's happened because Jurgen Klopp gave Bradley a chance to deputise for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the youngster more than made the most of it.
The Northern Ireland international has been a consistent performer for the Reds ever since - so much so that Alexander-Arnold could well be moved into midfield next season in order to get Bradley on the field regularly.
4. Jarell Quansah
With Joel Matip being chronically injured and Ibrahima Konate looking rather chronically bad at football at times, Liverpool were in dire need of someone to step up and prove they can be Virgil van Dijk's partner at the heart of defence.
Enter Jarell Quansah.
The towering centre-back has managed to establish himself as a starter for Liverpool in the second half of the 2023/24 season, and he's managed to do so by just playing really bloody well.
As adept on the ball as he is off it, he's a perfect modern defender.
3. Adam Wharton
Club: Crystal Palace
When you're being tipped for a place in England's Euro 2024 squad after less than one full season of top-flight football, chances are you've been playing quite well.
And that's exactly what Adam Wharton has been doing.
Particularly since the arrival of new Palace manager Oliver Glasner, Wharton has developed into a genuinely fantastic midfielder, providing a metronomic presence in the heart of one of the Premier League's most in-form teams at the tail-end of the 2023/24 season.
2. Lewis Miley
Club: Newcastle United
Lewis Miley is 18-years-old and was a regular in the Premier League for one of the top six teams in the country until picking up an injury.
That is utterly remarkable.
The youngster has thoroughly impressed at the heart of Newcastle's midfield since breaking through, and is set to be a cornerstone of the club's new money-rich era.
1. Kobbie Mainoo
Club: Manchester United
There has literally been one positive from Manchester United 's harrowing 2023/24 season, and that positive is Kobbie Mainoo.
Burdened with the responsibility of essentially being United's one-man midfield for most of the season (Casemiro doesn't really count at this stage in his career, let's be honest), the 19-year-old has, somehow, managed to excel.
His fantastic goals against Liverpool and Wolves also proved he has a bit of match-winning star quality in his game too.

It was a star-studded night in the capital as the stars of the small screen united in force at the Bafta Television Awards 2024. They headed to London's Royal Festival Hall to celebrate the best in TV over the past year on Sunday (May 12) in a glamourous ceremony.
As the prestigious event began, actors and reality stars made their way down the carpet ahead of the award ceremony, posing for the camera under the Southbank's glistening sun.
Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan were once again the hosts of the evening and kicked off the annual awards bash by issuing stern instructions to the celebrity audience.

Rob started by saying: "We are back for a second year as hosts. There were a few mistakes made last year so if you win, we love a good acceptance speech – but keep it tight." Romesh continued: "Actually don’t say anything at all.
"Producers, you can come up to the stage if you must, but please stand at the back and let the famous people talk. To the actors, it’s impossible to ‘fall in love with a script’ – you read it, you liked it and thought it would make you some money." Rob added: "If you have got to make a political point remember we have got to follow you, so keep it light."
Among the winners were Strictly Come Dancing who took home the best entertainment Bafta, defeating shows including Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas . Ted Lasso and West End star Hannah could be seen swigging from a hip flask as the camera cut to her.
Collecting the gong, Strictly host Tess Daly said: "We are properly and genuinely overwhelmed. Thank you Bafta for making it worth putting on Spanx on the hottest day of the year. We have been on for 20 years, so this is the best birthday present."
Meanwhile, awards hosts Rob and Romesh looked bashful when their show Rob And Romesh VS won the comedy entertainment Bafta. Awards hosts Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan looked bashful when their show Rob And Romesh VS won the comedy entertainment Bafta.
They joked that their production team was the slowest to depart the stage after accepting the prize with them, despite the hosts’ instructions during their opening monologue that all winners should keep their speeches brief. Lorraine Kelly was presented with the special award by Succession star Brian Cox at the TV Baftas ceremony. She paid tribute to her husband Steve and daughter Rosie, who is pregnant with her first child, saying: "I’m on the telly tomorrow but I’m going to celebrate tonight." And Baroness Floella Benjamin has been presented with the Bafta Fellowship by newsreader Clive Myrie while, in a video tribute, Bafta president the Prince of Wales sent his “heartfelt congratulations”.

Crater Lake
Dazzling blue water and stunning volcanic landscapes are both on full display along Crater Lake, the deepest lake in all of the United States. Designated swimming areas range from Cleetwood Cove to Wizard Island, but be sure to bring plenty of warm clothing in addition to a bathing suit, as this stunning water feature is just as frigid as it is beautiful.

Deep Creek Lake
The westernmost reaches of Maryland are home to Deep Creek Lake, an artificial body of water that made its debut roughly a century ago. Local fish species range from walleye to bluegill to yellow perch, while humans tend to join in on the party once spring kicks in, with panhandle residents swinging by for a refreshing swim in the Garrett County waters.

Devil's Lake
Spanning roughly 374 acres along southern Wisconsin's Baraboo Range, Devil's Lake serves as a top spot for summer recreation. While visitors arrive in droves to paddle along its scenic shoreline and hike in search of local birds, the water feature is also a popular swimming destination thanks to its calm water and warm temperatures in the summer months.

New Hampshire
Just west of the Maine border, New Hampshire's Echo Lake serves as a top spot for water recreation during peak summer. Kayaking and fishing are two popular activities across the area, while those looking to cool off on a hot day can take a dip in the warm, calm water found along the lake's sandy shores.

Geneva Lake
Located roughly halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Geneva Lake is a particularly popular summertime destination for those seeking an idyllic escape from the city. On the western shore, Fontana Beach is a local favorite thanks to its soft sand and shallow water, while Big Foot Beach State Park is a must-visit for those staying in the idyllic city of Lake Geneva.

Colorado's Grand Lake springs to life once the snow has made its annual retreat, inviting tourists and locals alike to kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and swim along its tranquil shores. It may be a little chilly, but it's tough to pass up a dip in the largest and deepest natural lake in all of the Centennial State.

Lake Charlevoix
While Lake Michigan sees its fair share of bathers during the warmer months, it's not exactly Caribbean-level in terms of temperature. Fortunately, northern Michigan residents have the perfect alternative in the form of Lake Charlevoix. The third-largest natural lake in the state, this scenic body of water tends to run a bit warmer than its massive neighbor, with Depot Beach being a particularly popular spot for taking the plunge.

Lake Chelan
It may be a little chilly at first, but the crystal-clear water and stunning surroundings make Lake Chelan a top destination for a warm weather swim. Renowned for its immense depth, the body of water is often compared to a Northern European fjord, providing visitors with a glimpse into the stunning beauty of Scandinavia without having to set foot outside of North America.

New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania
With hundreds of miles of shoreline to explore between both Canada and the United States, the sprawling Lake Erie is rife with sandy beaches to swim along. Headlands Beach State Park is a popular bathing destination for Ohio residents, while Pennsylvanians can take a dip at the scenic Presque Isle State Park (during the warmer months, at least).

Lake George
After a long day of trekking through Adirondack hiking trails, there's nothing quite as refreshing as a dip in Lake George. Measuring in at 45 square miles, this scenic body of water is a particularly refreshing swimming spot thanks to its unusually clean water, with locals congregating at the sandy Million Dollar Beach to swim, sunbathe, stand-up paddleboard, and take a leisurely cruise out on the boat.

Whether you're trekking along Saginaw Bay or exploring the remote northern shore of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron is dotted with a wealth of incredible swimming beaches for visitors to enjoy. While both Canada and the United States are rife with top-tier swimming destinations, Michigan is particularly suitable for the sport, equipped with charming preserves like Sleeper State Park and Hoeft State Park.

Lake Jocassee
South Carolina
Located in the northwesternmost reaches of South Carolina, the scenic Lake Jocassee is fed by natural Appalachian rivers all throughout the year, each one coming together to form a particularly idyllic mountain lake. During a swim, visitors can scour the water for creatures like sunfish and trout, and as an added bonus, there's no shortage of rushing waterfalls to admire along the shore.

Lake Michigan
Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin
It's always a little cold even in the height of summer, but for those willing to brave the low temperatures, Lake Michigan is perfect for a refreshing dip. For Chicago visitors, North Avenue Beach is a particularly lively spot for a swim, while destinations outside the city range from Indiana Dunes National Park to Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Lake Ouachita
Created in the 1950s as a source of hydroelectric power, Lake Ouachita doubles as a massive outdoor recreation spot, spanning 40,000 acres just outside the city of Hot Springs. While boaters and fishers can be found in abundance across the lake, it's also a haven for swimming and scuba diving.

Lake Powell
Arizona and Utah
Arizona and Utah aren't particularly lush, so it should come as no surprise that Lake Powell is one of the most popular water features between the two states. While there's no bad time to take a dip, the height of summer provides visitors with bathtub-like water at temperatures capable of reaching over 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lake Superior
Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin
With 31,700 square miles of lake to explore, the colossal Lake Superior is equipped with more than its fair share of swimming spots spread along the Canada and United States shores. Though each one tends to swing towards the colder side, destinations like Agate Beach, Wisconsin Point, and Wild Goose Beach all offer some welcome relief from the summer heat.

California and Nevada
Renowned for its immense depth and spectacular beauty, Lake Tahoe is an unusually picturesque destination for a midday dive. For anyone hanging out on the California side, Pope Beach is a top destination for tourists and locals alike, while Nevada visitors can spend their time swimming along shoreside stops like Secret Cove and Sand Harbor.

Norris Lake
Spanning more than 200 miles along five separate counties, Norris Lake began its life as a method of flood control, gradually morphing into a top-tier aquatic adventure destination since its creation in the 1930s. During a visit to Loyston Point Recreation Area, locals can be found taking advantage of the calm water, with swimmers, boaters, and fishers all in attendance.

Sylvan Lake
South Dakota
For those wishing to immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of South Dakota's Black Hills, Sylvan Lake is the perfect spot. This sprawling water feature earns abundant acclaim for its gorgeous atmosphere, with visitors arriving during the warmer months to swim along the shallow and sandy beachfront.

Whitefish Lake
Trout, sculpin, and (of course) whitefish all call Montana's Whitefish Lake home, and they're far from the only creatures that spend their time cruising through the water. Throughout spring and summer, the area draws a wealth of campers, boaters, and swimmers, all of which arrive to take full advantage of the balmy temperatures and beautiful surrounding landscapes.
