  • life at home / Travel Gear

How is your sanity these days? Jacob is going crazy with cabin fever. Me, however? I feel right at home (pun intended) with my puzzles, painting, and crafts. Today, we’re sharing our favorite DIY travel projects we’ve made and plan to make during our quarantine.

As you already know, no one can travel right now, so it’s the perfect time to get crafty for your future trips.

1. DIY Taco Cord

We had first seen a version of them sold at a store and thought how cute would they be if they looked like actual tacos. You may have seen similar ones around the web, but we were super proud that we were the first ones to be crafty enough to come up with this alternative. ;)

Materials You Need: Gold Leather (3.5 x 9.5 to make 3), Acrylic Felt (Green, Yellow, Brown, Red),  Snap Buttons + Attacher Kit , Fabric Scissors , Hot Glue Gun , Hammer , X-acto Knife , Pen

2. Flat Iron or Curling Iron Holder

This is by far the easiest and cheapest tutorial. You can head to the nearest dollar store and pick up a potholder.

Materials You Need: Potholder, Needle and Thread

Instructions: Fold the potholder in half and sew the bottom and the sides. As a bonus, you can also decorate it as you like.

Pro Tip: Acrylic paint works as a great alternative to fabric paint. You can use a fabric medium to thin it out, but it worked perfectly fine on its own.

3. Travel Watercolor Set

Lately, I’ve been using youtube tutorials to teach myself how to watercolor. I’ve only been painting at home, but eventually, when we visit beautiful landscapes I would love to sit and paint. It’ll be a great way to be more present.

Materials You Need: Altoids Tin (the classic one), InstaMorph , Watercolors (this is a great beginner’s set I use)

Pro Tip:   This water brush pen pairs great with this DIY since you don’t have to carry a cup of water with you.

4. DIY Kindle Case or DIY iPad Case

This tutorial was for an iPad cover, but you can also measure your device and modify the tutorial as needed.

Materials You Need: Heavy Chipboard , Fabric (this one is travel inspired), One inch Elastic , Sewing Machine (or you can hand sew)

I also found these amazing handmade book covers on Etsy , and there’s a high chance I’m going to buy one.

I’m trying to find a way if we can make a DIY version, which requires us to find vintage books that are roughly the same size as a kindle. We’ll be on the lookout once the quarantine is over.

5. Adventure Together Map Art

This is another one I saw on Etsy, which is such a great place to find DIY inspiration. You can do a paper cut out version or a digital version, but I think a digital version is too much of a copy rather than a DIY. What do you think?

Materials You Need: Map, Colored Cardstock , Glue , Scissors

I suggest you go thrifting for a map, or it won’t be cost-effective. We used our old Rand McNally.

6. DIY Scratch Map

We love scratch maps and already have two world scratch maps and a US scratch map in our home. I didn’t realize until recently that you can make your very own.

Materials You Need: World Map, Contact Paper, Acrylic Paint, Dishwashing Soap, Candle, Brush

You can find the instructions here .

7. Packing Cube

Packing cubes travel with us everywhere. Not only do they keep all your things organized, but with their compression, you can pack in so much more.

Materials You Need: Rip Stop Nylon (1/2 yard), Mesh Fabric (1/3 yard), Zipper 36″, Iron on Vinyl

Find the instructions here or here .

Pro Tip:  Our biggest concern for this DIY would be how they hold up since we typically stuff them to the brim. These are the ones we currently use, and they are super sturdy.

8. Travel Neck Pillow

We never travel with neck pillows, because we like to pack light and they are bulky. Instead, we use a hack and stuff our puffy jacket into a pocket to use as a pillow. We do, however, know plenty of people who love traveling with neck pillows, and this  DIY Buckwheat Travel Pillow by SewDIY is perfect.

9. DIY Passport Holder

Passport covers don’t just make your passport look pretty. They protect it from wear and tear. Here’s a lovely DIY passport holder tutorial by Lovely Indeed.

10. DIY Luggage Tags

A luggage tag is a great way to let your luggage stand out. It’s also useful to keep your phone number in case the airline loses it, which has happened to us a few times. Here’s a beautiful DIY luggage tag tutorial to give your luggage some bling.

11. Jewelry Roll + Case

If you bring a lot of jewelry with you, this mini jewelry roll tutorial from Haberdashery Fun is a great way to keep them organized. It can also be used at home to store your essential jewelry too.

12. Sunglass Case

Sunglasses are an essential travel item. While I tend to toss them freely in a bag, I could give them more love and care. I think this cute  DIY sunglass case tutorial by DIYCandy  would do the trick.

13. Eyemask

14. sewing kit (ty).

Is this DIY travel project not purrrfect? (Sorry I had to). Of course, you can decorate it with something other than a kitty, but do you really want to lose then pun? You can find the DIY Sewing Kitty tutorial here . Photo courtesy of Sew4Home .

15. DIY Vintage Book Travel Tech Organizer

This DIY travel tech organizer will also have to wait until the quarantine is over so we can go thrifting and look for vintage books.

Here’s a new take on a gift basket, not unlike my popular Santa Sack project! I’m going to show you step by step how to design your very own personalized Survival Kits using paint cans and your Cricut cutting machine. Fill them with whatever you want! I have a design for the holidays and one for travel. These DIY survival kits make unique gifts for friends and family of all ages .

How fun are these personalized survival kits?! They make for great gifts during the holidays and are not very pricey to make. Of course, you decide what goes into them so they are perfect just for you or your loved ones!

DIY Survival Kit made using a paint can and a Cricut cutting machine

To make these DIY survival kits, we first need special paint cans ! No, these are not your usual old paint cans — I’m using a special clear one and a solid one, both are just over eight inches high and six inches wide.

I’m also using my favorite sticker paper for the labels: Avery Printable Sticker paper in 8 and a half by 11 inch sheets. I like this printable sticker paper because it’s compatible with most printers.

And we’ll need some white card stock for the tags. And of course all the fun goodies we will put inside the cans. I chose some must have travel items for the Travel kit like sunscreen and a sleep mask and some fun and festive holiday items for the Holiday kit like cookie cutters, a pretty candle and of course Candy Canes!

Of course we’ll also need our amazing Cricut cutting machine , a mat , brayer , weeding tool , scraper and measuring tape .

DIY Survival Kit made using a paint can with some emergency necessities beside them

Like I mentioned before, these were so fun to make and make for great gifts for your loved ones. I think anyone would be happy to receive a personalized kit filled with some fun goodies. Of course we’ll be adding more than just fun goodies, we’ll also be adding necessities just in case we need them.

This simple project can be used to give to your children on long road trips, keep them on hand for emergencies, or give them away to a friend who is going through a tough time and just needs a little pick me up.

I’ve made two versions of these DIY survival kits for your to choose from, one for the holidays, and one as a fun travel kit:

Instructions

STEP 1: GET MY FREE PAINT CAN SURVIVAL KIT DESIGN FILES

In this tutorial, I'm going to show you step by step how to design your very own personalized Paint Can Survival Kits with your Cricut. I have one for the holidays and one for travel. These are so fun to make and they make great gifts for friends and family of all ages.

First, download my free Paint Can Survival Kit Files, design #322, from my free resource library and upload the PNG files to Cricut Design Space.

TIP:  If you are not sure how to  upload an SVG cut file  to Cricut Design Space, watch this  helpful video training series  I made. If you are on an iPad or iPhone,  here is how to download and upload SVG files to the Cricut Design Space app .

I will be using the Cricut Maker 3 for this tutorial, but you can use any Cricut model except for the Cricut Joy to make these.

STEP 2:  PRINT THEN CUT THE DESIGN

First, click the upload icon in Design Space.

Paint Can Survival Kit Upload

Now, click the “upload image” icon in Design Space to select your design.

Paint Can Survival Kit Upload Images

Click "Browse" to select your file.

Select the design you would like to use for your cute paint can survival kit and click "Open." I am going to be using the Travel one as an example, but the steps are the same for both.

Paint Can Survival Kit Open File

Select “Complex” for the image type and then click "Continue."

Paint Can Survival Kit Complex Image and Continue

On the "Select & Erase" screen, click "Apply & Continue."

Select Apply & Continue Button for Paint Can Survival Kits

Select "Print Then Cut Image" on the Upload Type screen and then click "Upload."

Paint Can Survival Kit Print then Cut Image and Upload Button

Select the image from your "Recent Uploads" and then click "Add to Canvas."

Paint Can Survival Kit Select Front from recent images.

Once you have your file in Cricut Design Space, we are going to adjust the size of the design using the size adjustment box on the top of the screen and type in the measurements.

Resize it so that your final dimensions are 8” x 6.75.”

Paint Can Survival Kit Resize Front

Now that we have our front design, we are going to upload our adorable tags to go along with our paint can! This step is optional. I have included 4 different tags, some with preprinted lists and two without so you can fill them in later.

Again, click the upload icon in Design Space and select the paint can tag file.

Paint Can Survival Kit Complex Image

On the next screen, click "Continue."

Paint Can Survival Kit Print then Cut

Now we are going to resize our tags so that they are each  2” x 3.” My total dimension size is 4.396” x 7.102.” For the Christmas tags, the total dimension size is 7.113” x 3.529” for a 2.25” x 3.5” tag.

Paint Can Survival Kit Resize Tags

Next, we are going to upload our three-game files for the travel paint can. This step is also optional.

You can print just one or all three. I’m going to show you all three. Upload the files one at a time, like we did above and resize them so that they are 4” x 5.”

Paint Can Survival Kit Resize game

Duplicate the game sheets for as many games as you would like, by clicking the game sheets and selecting duplicate on the top right corner of the screen. I am going to make two of each.

Paint Can Survival Kit Duplicate

NOTE: You can fit two games on an 8.5" x 11" piece of cardstock.

Now we are going to click "Make It" on the top right-hand side of the screen.

On the next page select "Continue" on the lower right-hand side of the screen.

For this project, we are using Print Then Cut. To do this insert the Avery Printable Sticker Paper into your printer so that it prints on the plain white side.

Click "Send to printer" in Cricut Design Space. On the pop-up page "Print Setup" I recommend turning on both "Add Bleed" and "Use System Dialog" by clicking on the toggle so they switch to green. This ensures the highest print quality.

Paint Can Survival Kit Send to Printer

Once you hit "Print" and if you selected "Use System Dialog" (this option is not available on all printers) another pop-up box will appear, keep in mind it might pop up behind what is on your screen, so just minimize those windows if you don't see it. Once there, I recommend printing on “Best” setting. Then click “Print."

Paint Can Survival Kit Print

Once the design is printed it's time to select our materials for this project.

For the first mat which has our front design on it. Click on "Browse All Materials" and select "Printable Sticker Paper (White)" under paper in the materials menu.

Paint Can Survival Kit Printable Sticker Paper (white)

Place your new printed design on a Cricut Green StandardGrip Machine Mat 12" x 12" and burnish it down with the Cricut Brayer Tool, this ensures it has properly adhered to the mat.

Load your mat and select the blinking "Arrow/Go" button. Once it is done cutting, unload your mat by pressing the blinking "Load/Unload" button.

To remove the design from the mat, flip the mat over and peel the mat away from the sticker paper. This prevents the material from curling.

Next, we are going to weed the excess sticker paper from the design. Using your Cricut Weeding Tool choose a corner and separate the top layer from the bottom layer.

Set this aside for now.

Next, we are going to print then cut our tags.

Insert white cardstock into your printer, and then click "Send to Printer" in Cricut Design Space. On the pop-up page, select "Print” and I always select “Best.”

Next, select "Browse All Materials" again and then click "Medium Cardstock – 80 lb (216 gsm)" under "Paper" in the materials menu.

Place your cardstock on your Cricut Green StandardGrip Machine Mat 12" x 12" and burnish it with the Brayer Tool. Now Load your mat and select the blinking "Arrow/Go" button.

Paint Can Survival Kit Loading Tags

Once it is cut, carefully remove it from the mat by flipping the mat over and peeling the mat away from the cardstock to help prevent curling.

Paint Can Survival Kit Removing Tags From Mat

Set these aside for now.

Lastly, we are going to print then cut the game sheets.

Again, insert white cardstock into your printer. Click "Send to printer" in Cricut Design Space. On the pop-up screen, select "Print."

Select "Browse All Materials" and select "Medium Cardstock – 80 lb (216 gsm)" under "Cardstock" in the materials menu.

Place your newly printed design on a Cricut Green StandardGrip Machine Mat 12" x 12" and burnish it with the Brayer Tool.

To remove the design from the mat, flip the mat over and peel the mat away from the cardstock.

Paint Can Survival Kit Games Being Cut Out

Repeat these steps for the remaining game mats.

Once we have them all cut, we are going to stack them on top of each other with the holes lined up.

Next, attach them together with a loose-leaf binder ring or tie it with a ribbon. Now you have your very own gamebook that we can put in our paint can!

Paint Can Survival Kit Game Kit Put Together

STEP 3:  DECORATE YOUR PAINT CAN

Now it's time to decorate our Paint Can Survival Kit!

First, grab your paint can. Next, peel the design from the sticker backing and center it in the middle of the paint can, and tack it down.

Paint Can Survival Kit Adding Sticker to Paint Can

Next, tie the tag to your paint can using a 6" piece of ribbon. You can use any kind of ribbon, I am using the ribbon that comes with the jingle bells.

NOTE: All of these steps are the same for the Christmas Paint Can Survival Kit. I also added some jingle bells to this can by using two pieces of 6" ribbon to tie them to the paint can handle. Feel free to add more if you like!

STEP 4: FILL WITH GIFTS

For our final step, we are going to fill the paint can with all kinds of fun gifts!

For the Travel-theme paint can, I put the first-aid kit and the deck of cards in first. Then, I added the hand sanitizing wipes, sunscreen, some yummy snacks, the printed travel games, pencils, and the sleeping mask.

For the Christmas-theme paint can add a handful or two of the Crinkle Cut Paper (Red) to cover the bottom of the paint can.

Paint Can Survival Kit Adding Chrinkle Paper

Next, add the rest of your gifts to the Christmas-theme paint can.

I put my candles in first because they are the heaviest. Then, I added my cookie cutters, cozy socks, teeny-tiny tinsel tree, and some small candy canes.

Paint Can Survival Kit Adding Candy Canes

Finished Project Size:

One 6.6" x 8.6" paint can.

Fonts Used:

If you’ve ever been on the road where you quickly need a first aid kit, or some sanitizing wipes, you know how handy these survival kits would be during a time like that. Or maybe you just want a quick snack but don’t want to head out to the store. These survival kits are perfect for saving the day and they are so easy to refill when you’ve used up any of the items.

DIY Survival Kits made using paint cans placed on a wooden surface with colorful lights in the background

I really love the idea of giving these out during the holidays because instead of buying someone something they may not like or use, I can stuff it with their favorite goodies , snacks, and maybe even a gift card or two!

Last Minute DIY Travel Gift Ideas

December 21, 2017 · Karen · Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

Finding the perfect gift for everyone can be difficult, sometimes it’s easier to just make something special instead. I’ve partnered with Alamo today to share some great DIY travel gift ideas? These travel gift ideas are also DIY, making them the perfect way to remember a special vacation without breaking the bank!

Need a custom gift for the vacation lover in your family? How about making them one of these easy, DIY travel gift ideas!

I’ve rounded a few DIY travel gift ideas from my site and from Alamo’s Scenic Route website below. There’s a wide variety of ideas and all are pretty simple and inexpensive to make!

DIY TRAVEL GIFT IDEAS

My husband just made me a Memory Board Display to hang above my desk at home. I can display lots of pictures and mementos from past trips on it. If you have spare wood and paint in the garage, this project can be almost free to make!

I enjoy making the grandparents a new photo canvas of my boys every year or so. I just pick my favorite image of them and with a few supplies, and I have a custom gift I know they will love.

This idea from Alamo is sweet. Everyone loves buying a fun t-shirt while on vacation, but let’s be honest, how many random t-shirts can you own? And then there are the t-shirts that don’t wash well and end up shrinking. A souvenir t-shirt tote bag is the perfect way to reuse your favorite vacation t-shirts.

Custom magnets are a fun way to reuse ticket stubs, maps, photos and other paper mementos from a trip. You can also make quite a few from one souvenir. They are perfect if you just went on an extended family vacation with lots of relatives and want to give everyone a little gift to remember the trip.

My kids would love a postcard photo album . We actually do something similar for their Disney autograph books , but I love this idea for remembering special places and events from a trip!

For little kids, you can make them a set of travel craft sticks to take on their next vacation. You can even customize them using their favorite colors.

Need a custom gift for the vacation lover in your family? How about making them one of these easy, DIY travel gift ideas!

Travel accessories you can make at home

A man leans back in an airplane seat wearing an eye cover and headphones. Next to him is another man with headphones and neck pillow.

You're home, we're home and sometimes reading another book or baking another loaf of bread just doesn't cut it anymore. Looking for something else to occupy your time and really make staying indoors more creative and perhaps a little challenging? DIY projects, particularly travel-related, are the perfect way to maintain your love of travel while staying indoors.

These are our favorite travel-themed DIY projects.

A man leans back in an airplane seat wearing an eye cover and headphones. Next to him is another man with headphones and neck pillow.

1. Travel pillow

Travel pillows have become a quintessential carry-on item when criss-crossing the globe. Turns out these comfy companions are pretty easy to make in your home (where we all find ourselves at the moment). Here's how to sew your own travel pillow courtesy of the Instructables website . For the visual learners out there, check out Crafty Gemini Creates video . Mattea from the blog, Ducttapeguitar, offers up an ingenious idea of using a travel pillow as a form of luggage.

2. Passport cover

From chic, all-black options to zany, loud prints that TSA agents can spot from a mile away, passport covers are a fun way to display your personality. Instead of combing through countless websites looking for the passport cover that "speaks to you," try making your own. Here's a step-by-step tutorial courtesy of the Barefoot Blonde . And for those folks who can't sew, Deb Days and Adventures in Fashion will help you out.

3. Eye mask

Whether used to block out the sun, cabin lights or an annoying seatmate, eye covers are the perfect travel accessory. Though the basic pattern is the same, add a little flair with unique (yet comfy) fabrics.  My Bluprint  and Sleep Advisor offer comprehensive written steps for custom-made eye covers or follow along on  Treasurie's video.

4. Jewelry organizers

Traveling with jewelry is always a roll of the dice. Will my favorite earring (it's always just one) get lost in the black hole that is my suitcase? Will that bracelet that goes with everything get crushed under the weight of all my clothes? Jewelry organizers are perfect solution to this problem. Check out  Momtastic  and Brit+Co  for easy to follow tutorials.

A woman wearing ripped jeans holds a white tote bag.

5. Tote bag

Sourced from an  old pair of jeans or an assortment of unused pieces of fabric, the tote bag is a versatile travel accessory that appeals to everyone. Add pockets or a drawstring or braided straps to make this essential travel item a true reflection of your style. Crazy Little Projects is perfect for beginners.

6. Toiletries storage

Washcloths take on a whole new meaning thanks to this practical DIY toiletries storage project courtesy of the blog Sparkles of Sunshine . Add a touch of homeliness with brightly-colored ribbons and ornately designed washcloth patterns. For a storage case with a bit more character, try The Crafty Gentleman's tutorial .

7. Luggage tags

Often overlooked, homemade luggage tags are not only practical but also creative. Make a custom tag for everyone in your family or make multiple tags for every piece luggage you own. For a simple design try the Polished Habit's version or for something with a bit more sparkle, test out  Bre's glitter luggage tags from Average but Inspired.

I hate flying. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel and explore new places and visit family and friends, but sitting in coach for 14 hours can only be described as a mild form of earthly hell.  To ease the misery, I usually carry with me a clear pouch that sits conveniently in the seat pocket in front of me, containing a slew of amenities that make my trip more comfortable and entertaining.  It occurred to me that curating such a care package would make the perfect gift for the jet-setting friend!

Same! Where can we find the pouch in the post

  • September 12, 2017 2:27 pm

Hi Dee, the clear bag I’ve used is a Mylar Ziplock Bag. If you do a quick search on Amazon you can find them in various sizes and colors. However, you usually can’t buy them in singles and will have to commit to a bulk pack. Hope I’ve been helpful!

12 Unique Gift Ideas For The Budget Traveler In Your Life

E veryone travels differently, and these days, budget traveling is becoming more and more popular. I’m certainly a fan of the budget traveling lifestyle, and if you know someone who is always backpacking their way through life, then this article is just for you. This article will highlight some of the best gifts for backpackers and budget travelers so you can send them on their way with new gear, new destinations, and new experiences. Be sure to check out our ultimate guide for gifts for travelers – it covers everything from family adventures to solo traveling gift ideas.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to start adding these gifts to your cart. Who knows, you may even be inspired to start planning a backpacking adventure of your own!

Carry-on Essentials

Experience gifts for budget travelers, stocking stuffers.

It always starts with the carry-on, and the balancing act of keeping the essentials at the ready so the journey to the destination is as comfortable as possible. For those who travel often, having these items can be a game changer as far as comfort is concerned, so if your traveler doesn’t already have any of these essential travel items, they’ll make great travel gifts.

1. Portable Charger

2. travel pillow, 3. water bottle, 4. magnetic storage bag.

Exploring the great outdoors is a priority for backpackers, and keeping the outdoors outside has been a struggle since the dawn of time. This gear and shoe storage bag by Luno clamps right onto the side of your car with magnets and keeps all of your muddy belongings separate.

OnlyInYourState editor Sarah McCosham swears by this storage bag; “This is awesome for camping trips – it keeps the funk out of the car!”

5. Packing Cubes

Those who travel on a budget tend to prioritize memories over things, which is why we love experience-based gifts. Some of the best gifts for backpackers are experiences, unique stays, and memberships that they can use again and again. Sure, part of a backpacker’s thrill is the craftiness that comes along with the journey, but every now and then, it’s nice to splurge on an amazing opportunity like a night at a fancy resort or an incredible tour.

6. ResortPass

7. virgin experience gifts, 8. city experiences gift card, 9. alltrails + membership.

If your budget backpacker seems to have everything they need, then it’s time to get creative with these fun stocking stuffers everyone will love.

10. World Map Laundry Bag

11. a good eye mask, 12. camera tripod.

Did any of these gifts for travelers on a budget make it into your cart? Are you inspired to start planning your own adventure? Let us know! If you have any recommendations, let us know in the comments, and we may include them in a future article!

  • Everything We Want to Buy From the Dôen x Gap Collaboration

Portrait of Liza Corsillo

Dôen , the L.A. brand known for vintage-inspired blouses, floral dresses, and actually wearable pleated pants, has launched a 51-piece collaboration with Gap , and to say we are excited is an understatement — especially since everything has Gap prices. (At Dôen, a pair of jeans starts at $198 and dresses range from a couple hundred bucks to $500 or more.)

The collection includes women’s and children’s clothing priced between $20 and $158. Sisters and Dôen co-founders Katherine and Margaret Kleveland reimagined famous Gap designs with feminine flourishes and billowy proportions, adding balloon sleeves to a denim jacket , a doily collar to a striped button-down , and extra-wide legs to chinos and jeans . You can shop the collection now in select stores and online, though a few items have already sold out.

To see everything in person and figure out some of the sizing (much of the collab is meant to be oversize, but Gap sizing generally runs larger than Dôen’s), I went to the Gap in Times Square to try things on IRL with Strategist writer Lauren Ro and senior editor Winnie Yang. Our consensus: The denim jacket and the striped button-down are clear winners, but there’s some other good stuff too (as well as a couple disappointments). Here’s our crib sheet.

Gap × DÔEN Oversized Icon Denim Jacket

I have way too many denim jackets at home, but I was sold on this one as soon as I tried it on. The denim is really lightweight and soft, great for the summer. It definitely runs one or two sizes too big: I normally wear a medium but got one in size small, and the extra-small fit pretty well too. The jacket also comes in kids’ sizes .

Gap × DÔEN Organic Cotton Eyelet Big Shirt

All three of us liked this oversize button-down with a lacy, doily-esque collar that isn’t as stiff as it looks in the photo. Overall the shirt feels more casual than business-y or grandma-y. It definitely runs big, so to get the perfect oversize-but-not- too- oversize fit, I sized down once.

Gap × DÔEN Cropped Eyelet Tank Top

This eyelet tank top is both soft and crisp, and the detail is really special. The matching skirt is sold out online (though it’s still available in Times Square), but the tank top would look just as nice, if not nicer, with a pair of vintage Levi’s.

Gap × DÔEN Logo Sweatshirt

Gap loungewear is always worth buying, and the adult and kids’ logo sweatshirts are particularly cute. The red sweatshirt was my preference even though it’s only available in children’s sizing. Just to see, I tried it on in a size extra-large (the biggest it comes), and it fit me perfectly. If I was getting the adult size in gray, I’d buy my usual size medium, which fit a bit baggy.

Gap × DÔEN Logo Tote Bag

If ever there was a status tote bag, this is it. It’s available in adult and “kid” sizes, but I think the smaller one is cuter and more unexpected. Plus, it’s a lot cheaper and still roomy enough for a phone, wallet, and light jacket.

Gap × DÔEN Brannan Bear Toy

This sweet teddy bear is part of the kids’ collection and like a lot of the clothing, it’s bigger than I imagined. It’s so cute and weighted at the bottom so it sits on its own.

Gap × DÔEN High Rise Denim Trousers

We all tried on these denim trousers with high hopes, and though the quality is really nice, the rise was too short on all three of us. They also run about one size big.

Gap × DÔEN Ballet Flats

We’re always on alert for the perfect mary janes. This faux -leather pair is an online exclusive so we didn’t try them on, but they seem like a steal at under $100.

Gap × DÔEN Floral Midi Dress

Like so many of Dôen’s floral dresses, this romantic take on a ’90s-esque floral dress also has 1940s vibes. Though it isn’t one of my top picks — I think the print would look better on bedding than clothes — I do like that the fabric is slinky and drapes well. The kids’ version is cute and light blue instead of cream.

Gap × DÔEN Floral Midi Skirt

This bias-cut floral skirt has a similar print, but it looked better on the blue background. It fit well once I went down one size and looked nice with the denim jacket and red sweatshirt layered on top.

Gap × DÔEN Linen-Blend Cardigan

The texture of this linen cardigan is really pleasing to touch. When we tried it on it leaned pretty heavy on the “grandma” scale, but you could change that by wearing it over a bra top or tank. The fit was pretty true to size.

Gap × DÔEN Pointelle Tank Top

I wanted to love this tank but despite its nice quality pointelle, it looked too much like an undershirt on me. It does run pretty true to size, but the shape is boxy and it fits almost like a crop top.

Gap × DÔEN High Rise Khaki Trousers

The fabric of these khakis is crisp and lightweight and would be excellent to wear on a hot day. But like the denim trousers, the rise is short; the pants made us look a bit paunchy. That’s probably not an issue for the kid and bab y versions.
