Tour Edge HL4 Driver Review

Tour edge hl4 driver.

For this review, I have some very exciting news.  Ladies and gentleman, he’s back…  After being fit into the new Tour Edge HL4 driver, who better to turn to for his take on David Glod’s latest driver design for the people than my dad?  Following the WILD success of his previous testing here, we figured give the people what they want!

Tour Edge’s goal for the HL4 line was to help players “Get fit.  Spend Less.  Play Better.”  Aka, deliver a  custom fit driver for fully optimized performance without breaking the bank .  The Tour Edge HL4 is available in both a straight and offset model – both being full of forgiveness and high-end performance.  Let’s find out how well the $200 HL4 holds up with the big boys out on the course.

HL4 Driver Looks

At address, the Tour Edge HL4 driver has a fairly traditional 460cc look.  While the footprint is on the larger side, the face depth is moderate and the flow of the crown is smooth.  Tour Edge purposely made the crown slope steeper from the face toward the back.  This is slightly noticeable over the ball, but the impact on performance is worth it.  The purpose of this slope is to raise the Moment of Inertia (MOI) for more forgiveness and straighter drives.   Should you go with the offset version, the shaft offset is noticeable but not distracting or over the top.  Again, it’s worth it for the performance gain from the design.

On the sole of the HL4 driver you’ll find a blend of silver, black, and yellow.  A feature that should pop out at you is the sole weight toward the rear of the club.  This weight contributes to the HL4’s higher MOI and also helps raise the launch angle and spin.  The idea is that this will help you get the ball in the air easier and the added spin will hold it in the air for better carry and more distance .

Feel 10

How Does it Feel?

Let’s all be honest with each other for a minute here.  Typically when a driver is quite modestly priced, we all expect them to feel and sound terrible.  And usually for good reason!  I’ll be honest and admit that I had preconceived notions coming into our HL4 experience.  Knowing Tour Edge as a brand, I knew the HL4 would feel better than most others at the $200 price point, but how good could a $200 driver really feel?

Impressively good, that’s how the HL4 felt.   I personally found the HL4 to feel very lively and forgiving across the entire face .  The face is solid and the shot feedback in your hands is strong and precise .  Higher swing speeds may more significantly notice the impact of the club’s lighter weight, but players in the sub-100 range will feel like the club’s weight is in that perfect sweet spot for them.  My dad specifically said he felt the HL4 had a lot of pop and was very forgiving on his mishits.  In comparison, it made his current gamer (a competitor’s high-end driver from a few seasons ago) feel dead.

Sound 7

How Does it Sound?

Just like the feel, the Tour Edge HL4 driver sounds very impressive, let alone for a $200 driver.  I’m telling ya, I always feel like sound is the first noticeable sacrifice in a value driver, but that’s not the case with the HL4 whatsoever.  The sound is pronounced but won’t break any decibel regulations in the area.  Meaning you’ll know you caught one solid but no one is turning around thinking you’re the annoying guy on the range.  The sound is on the more metallic side but has good punch to it across the whole face .  My dad put it well when he said, “it’s nice because regardless of where I hit it on the face, it still sounds really strong.”   That inspired a lot of confidence in putting this driver into play.

Tour Edge HL4’s Simplified Custom Fitting Process

Before we dive into the performance of the HL4, let’s discuss the simplified custom fitting process Tour Edge utilizes for the HL4.  They offer three expanded custom fitting options for the HL4 driver.  Those options are flex in the stock UST Mamiya shaft, shaft length, and grip size.  Tour Edge’s fitting bag at your local establishment will have all driver options available for testing.  From there, the pro or fitter will be able to help determine what adjustments need to be made to optimize your performance.  Your fitter will then place your order and Tour Edge will start building your new HL4 driver.  A mere 48 hours later, Tour Edge will have your new sticks delivered anywhere in the continental US.

Sole Weight 12

On-Course Performance

Two major things immediately jumped out at me.  The Tour Edge HL4 driver is very easy to launch and it’s very forgiving .  16º may seem like a higher launch angle, but at lower club speeds you need it for more carry (and longer total distance).  Additionally, the average spin was reasonably low to still get some roll and maintain control of the ball.  So what we saw was solid carry that had just enough extra spin to keep the ball in the air but still allowed for some rolling yards when it hit the ground.

Let’s call a spade a spade here – my dad didn’t deserve some of the shots he got out of this driver.  I know because I was there.  With the higher MOI and more forgiving weight distribution, his bad shots were still getting up in the air and he wasn’t losing a ton of distance.  Don’t get me wrong, the HL4 isn’t going to save you from disaster, but more reasonable misses still have a fighting chance.  Up and forward comes fairly easy.  Now you just have to work on direction.  That said, if you struggle with direction, the Offset model may help address that for you too.

Final Thoughts 2

Final Thoughts

My final verdict is that the Tour Edge HL4 driver is the “driver of the people.”  In fact, I’m officially proclaiming that right now.  The Tour Edge HL4 is the driver for the weekend warrior!  The person that wants a club that’s easy to hit, easy to get up in the air, and makes golf more fun .  A driver for someone that wants to get custom fit but wants to be able to do so at a more affordable price point.  The HL4 can do all of that.  There’s certainly a place in the game for the higher-end and more expensive equipment, but there are millions (literally) of other golfers out there that are just looking for a solid driver investment with good bang of their buck.  I think the HL4 delivers exactly that.

HL4 driver vs EXS driver. I have a swing speed under 100. Recommendation for driver. Thanks, Ed

' src=

Pretty much comes down to your preference in looks, if you want adjustability, and price tag. They’re pretty different drivers.

' src=

Is every seller of Tour Edge clubs a fitter?

I’ll be honest, I don’t know that answer, but my gut feeling would tell me no. That said, I definitely don’t know for sure.

' src=

Thanks for the excellent review. Been looking at knock-offs as a way to get me a new driver, but this review has sold me on buying a one-year old Tour Edge HL4 driver. I already get good height on my drives with a 9% so going with the 9.5 degree. Since I am playing with a 20 year old driver, I’m hoping this baby will add a few yards to my hits. Currently 73 and hitting them between 200 and 220 off the tee without a lot of roll.

It’s a good one. My 67 year-old dad put it in his bag last year because it was just flat out easier to hit. I’m sure you’ll like it.

' src=

I’m 67 years old, with swing speed in high 80s. I have been playing a Tour Edge Exotics XJ1 driver (12* senior flex) and getting good height and distance, but it is not very forgiving. If I go to the HL4 driver, would it be a mistake to stick with 12*? Will I be hitting it too high?

I don’t think so, but if you’re looking for more forgiveness without sacrificing premium performance, I would 100% got with one of the new Hot Launch 521 drivers. I understand the HL4 may be more desirable because of a discounted price, but I think the difference in overall performance between HL4 is 521 is well worth it.

' src=

I just purchased an HL4 driver, but I didn’t realize(until I got home), that it does not have the loft etched on the sole? The one I was looking at, did have “10.5” on it(and both were offset “OS”)? How do I tell what loft I have? NOTE: I really need at least a 10.5, as I have a torn rotator, which has prevented me from lifting the ball. Thanks! MikeM

Does it say HL where the loft should? If so, that’s their highest loft option – 13.5º.

' src=

Thanks for the review! I appreciate that you didn’t discount the brand/club just because it’s budget. The salesman at the store I went didn’t do the same and I promptly left… I understand pushing the latest clubs but I rather spend the money more practice and lessons.

I’m just getting back into golf and my hand me down driver is regular flex but based on how it feels, my irons distance and those being stiff shafts I opted to get a Hot Launch 4 stiff flex for $110 like new. Hopefully it works out well and I can upgrade in a few years to the newer designs by Tour Edge.

Just very pleased a company is making things fairly affordable. $550 for a single club as a casual golfer just feels like too much.

Thanks again for the review. Will be visiting the website again as I appreciate no bias towards the budget golfer.

It’s not about budget or not, it’s about understating the value of the gear available out there and there is a HUGE array of golfers looking to fill spots in their bag. If we can help with that, we’re all in.

' src=

I cannot find the swingweight of this driver. HL4 offset, 10.5 degrees. feels light to me.

I couldn’t find anything on it. Try contacting Tour Edge through their website, they’re pretty good about getting back and answering questions.

' src=

How much offset is on the offset version of the hl4 driver?

I honestly don’t know, sorry.

Coming in HOT: Tour Edge HL4 driver

tour edge driver hl4

When it comes to combining performance and value, Tour Edge is one of the leaders of the pack.

The company offers two distinct lines that push the boundaries of forgiveness and speed: Exotics, which is the premium line targeting total performance at a higher price, and then there is Hot Launch: a line designed specifically for the value-conscious recreational player. As golfers know, you can’t continue to lead without new innovation, and on that note, today marks the launch if the HL4 Driver.

tour edge driver hl4

Club designer David Glod has again gone out of his way to improve on the previous version while offering a bevy of options in a mid-tier driver. From David

“This is an early release to a product line that we developed for 2020. We have spent the last 18 months looking at how to improve the best performance value drivers in the game and the end result is an all new shape that has an MOI that rivals that of a $500 driver. It’s an extremely forgiving design that all levels of players can benefit from.”

Speaking to the shape David goes on to say

“The HL4 driver features an all new sloped crown design that is deeper from face to back. N0 skirt where the sole plate meets the crown equates to a 12% increase in MOI over the previous Hot Launch drivers.”

tour edge driver hl4

Now, speaking to forgiveness, one of the other options the HL4 offers is an offset version — something you don’t find very often anymore because of the adjustable hosels found in most modern drivers. Those parts and additional SKUs add up. With the HL4 being a fixed hosel club, the cost savings can be passed to the consumer. This also opens the door for adding more actual versions of the driver. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know an offset driver is kinda ugly BUT you have to remember, it’s designed with a very specific player in mind — and speaking for a lover of offset drivers (my dad), this feature is a game changer for some players.

tour edge driver hl4

Since so much talk of 2019 is about face technology, it has to be pointed out that Tour Edge is not being left behind in this category either. The HL4 features a deeper cup face design and a rounder face shape than previous models for exceptional power and vastly improved acoustics, according to the company.

Combine the newly shaped Cup Face technology with Variable Face Thickness technology and you have a club that provides greater distance from more contact points on the face. All of this plus a Power Channel on the sole delivers amplified ball speed and less spin, as well as added forgiveness on shots struck lower on the face.

tour edge driver hl4

Price and options

The straight-neck HL4 driver comes in 9.5, 10.5, and 12-degree lofts, while the HL4 Offset driver will be available in 10.5, 12, and 13.5-degree lofts. The 10.5-degree HL4 Offset will be available in a left-handed model.

The HL4 series also features an upgraded UST Mamiya graphite shaft that offers enhanced tip stability. The drivers are available in ladies, A-flex, regular, and stiff shafts ranging from 48 to 60 grams.

The line has also been upgraded to a Lamkin Z5 multi-compound grip that features distinct hand-placement zones.

Both drivers will be available August 1 at authorized Tour Edge retailers and will retail for $199.99.

Toulon Golf collaborates with Valhalla Golf Club for latest Small Batch putter

tour edge driver hl4

Toulon Golf has today officially announced its latest Small Batch putter — the Valhalla.

Discussing the putter, Preston Toulon of Toulon Golf said: “This putter is a collaboration with the club at Valhalla and incorporates three of the many things that make the state of Kentucky great – horseracing, bourbon and championship golf. The head of the putter and headcover have several allusions to a jockey’s silk and there are thoroughbreds on the sole.”

tour edge driver hl4

Inspired by Toulon’s classic tri-sole Santa Monica design, the company sought to modernize the profile and design leveraging its 904 stainless steel and 6061 aircraft aluminium across the sole. Toulon describes the Valhalla’s profile as “slightly oversized blade whose proportions are meticulously balanced to maintain the look and feel of the Santa Monica, while increasing the putter’s inertia to create one of the most forgiving putters we have ever designed.”

tour edge driver hl4

Throughout numerous prototypes, Toulon paid particular attention to the L-neck, with its full shaft of offset, adding a bit of length for better blending with the slightly wider and longer blade.

On the rear of the putter are homages to horse racing in the form of jockey silk diamonds and Churchill Downs-inspired font.

The sole of the putter features a large cavity covered by a 6061 aircraft aluminum sole plate. According to Toulon, this allowed for the addition length to the putter and improved inertia as well as moving more mass to the perimeter for greater forgiveness.

tour edge driver hl4

In another nod to Valhalla, Toulon uses a milled watermarked limestone pattern, a reference to stone featured widely on the property.

As with all the Toulon Small Batch putters, the team paid particular attention to the topline thickness and radius to achieve a desired look. “Soft yet crisp was the design intent,” according to the company.

Tour Edge HL 4 Golf Club Set Review

tour edge driver hl4

Choosing a complete golf club set is never as easy as it should be. Unless you’ve had your eye on a specific set for a long time, it can be difficult to choose a set that is both pleasing to the eyes, desirable and one that will actually help improve your game.

The Tour Edge HL 4 set has everything a golfer needs to go from a beginner towards becoming a mid handicapper, the perfect blend of high quality clubs which will eliminate any distance gaps from your game and allow to improve tenfold without the expense of sourcing premium clubs separately from the top manufacturers.

It doesn’t get any easier the more you play either. Whether you’re a high handicapper or looking to take your game to the next level, it can be very hard to choose that next complete set that will take your game to the next level. For the former category of player though, we have put together a helpful review of one popular set.

The Tour Edge HL 4 Golf Club Set Overview

If you are a high to mid handicapper, you may just find your next set in the Tour Edge HL 4. HL stands for hot launch and it definitely provides a lot of what beginners to mid handicappers need: distance. These are definitely distance clubs that will help you get to the pin in a hurry.

Our First Impressions

Right off the bat, we were impressed and honestly a little intimidated when we first laid eye son the complete HL 4 set.

Impressed because these clubs look beautiful. Intimidated because it appeared that every club in the bag was oversized.

Who is the Set for?

There’s no mistaking who the Tour Edge HL 4 clubs were made for. Everything about their design screams distance.

If you are having trouble getting the distance you should be getting from your woods and long irons, this is a set that can help.

Breaking Down The Complete Set

tour edge driver hl4

The driver features a sloped crown and a titanium head that offers a better strength to weight ratio than stainless steel.

It also includes a slightly curved face for added forgiveness. It comes with a 460cc head size and can be had in 9.5, 10.5 or 12 degree loft versions

Fairway Woods

tour edge driver hl4

You can get an HL 4 number three fairway wood at 15 degrees, a 4 wood at 17, a 5 wood at 19 and or a 7 wood at 22.

They all feature a pear shape head design and extra weight in the rear of the sole for higher launch and forgiveness.

tour edge driver hl4

The shallow face and higher-sitting toe make the HL 4 hybrids forgiving. This design effectively broadens the sweet spot.

You can get a #3 hybrid at 19 degrees, a #4 at 22, a #5 at 25 or a #6 at 28 degrees of loft.

tour edge driver hl4

The longer blades and deeper undercut cavities are perfect for beginners and mid handicappers.

The soft stainless steel construction is also congenial for players working to master their irons. You can get irons 4-9 in a complete HL 4 set.

tour edge driver hl4

The milled grooves of the HL 4 wedges help you control spin on the green while the beveled leading edge helps smooth out turf interaction.

tour edge driver hl4

The Hot Launch putter is a mallet-style putter with a face insert with micro-etched grooves to improve feedback, feel and accuracy.

Club Composition

The Tour edge HL 4 driver, hybrid and fairway woods come standard with a UST Mamiya shaft that is available in ladies, amateur, regular and senior flex. The irons come with either the aforementioned UST Mamiya shafts or KBS Tour 90 Steel shafts in regular and senior flex.

Wedges are available in UST Mamiya or KBS Tour 90 steel shafts in regular, ladies, steel and amateur flex. All clubs are available in Lamkin Z5 Rubber slim and mid-sized grips.

Aside from the shaft and flex options, the Tour Edge HL 4 clubs feature an oversized design. We liked that the soles were commensurate with the overall size of the blades in the irons and wedges. This helped smooth out turf interaction.

The larger blades may also inspire more confidence in beginner players at point of address. Overall, the composition designs added a good amount of forgiveness to most of the clubs in this set.

Tour Edge HL 4 Pros & Cons

tour edge driver hl4

  • Very beginner friendly
  • Great distance off the tee
  • Advanced features usually reserved for more expensive sets
  • Many set options
  • The wedges provide a surprising amount of greenside precision
  • Good launch angles
  • The irons aren’t very workable
  • No stiff flex options
  • Currently only available in right-handed
  • Not for players with faster swing speeds

Overall Score: 95/100

Other Sets Worth Considering

Callaway strata golf set.

Strata Golf Clubs

The Callaway Strata golf club set comes with 2 hybrids which, many beginner players will find convenient as longer irons are notoriously hard to master when you’re first starting out.

The complete set includes driver, a 3 and 4 wood, two hybrids, irons 4-9, wedges and a putter but also comes with various different club mixes.

This is a great set for beginners overall because it’s inexpensive and has some of the advanced features that Callaway has become famous for.

  • Putter includes precision face milling
  • Oversized 460cc driver head
  • Very affordable set for beginners
  • Beefy hosels
  • Set doesn’t come with a stand bag

Overall Score: 94/100

Cobra xl golf set.

tour edge driver hl4

The Cobra XL Speed complete golf club set features a titanium driver for increased flex without sacrificing stability. The shallow fairway woods feature heel weighting for increased MOI and forgiveness. The set is rounded out with cavity back irons that launch high and play long.

All of this amounts to a set of clubs that plays very fast. The face on the woods and irons offer explosive speed but none of the clubs lack stability. The club head design of this set ensures that the faces can flex as much as they need to without harshing feel.

  • Set has advanced features for intermediate players
  • It’s available in both right and left-handed orientations
  • All the clubs in the set feature an attractive gold/black color scheme
  • A bit pricey
  • Not the best complete set for beginners or high handicappers

Taylormade RBZ Golf Set

tour edge driver hl4

The Taylormade RBZ set features a 460cc driver with a fast-launching face and lightweight crown. The wedges in this set also feature smooth sole grinds to help you glide through the turf on tough lies.

Now this is a set that was certainly designed for more advanced players. There are features in the woods that probably only faster swing players will be able to take advantage of. They are worth a look if you are looking to invest in clubs that can keep up with you as your game improves, though.

  • High volume grooves on the wedges
  • Perimeter weighted irons
  • The driver plays very long
  • Not great for beginners
  • Limited flex options

Overall Score: 96/100

Final thoughts.

While the Tour Edge HL 4 clubs lack work ability as you get closer to the pin, one thing is certain: they can actually get you to the pin faster. Overall they play long enough to inspire hope in the most troubled beginner’s struggling with accuracy and distance.

They also launch high to help get you over dreaded hazards. The wedges even provide good spin control for more advanced players. Overall, this is a great set for beginners and mid handicappers so check it out!

Tour Edge HL4 Iron-Wood Review

Sub 70 Pro V2 Fairway Wood

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge HL4 Iron-Wood is super easy to hit.  High launching and long.

Introduction

I love it when an OEM goes all-in.  Whether it’s the most demanding blade or a crazy spaceship-like putter, I love clubs that are clearly built for a particular reason.  This is why I love the Tour Edge HL4 Iron-Wood.  Tour Edge is so far in on forgiveness, they put it right in the name: it’s not just an iron, it’s an Iron-Wood.  They set out to make a club that can make the game easier and more fun, and they succeeded.

tour edge driver hl4

The Tour Edge HL4 Iron-Wood is a big, meaty club designed to promote confidence.  Looking down at address, you’ll see a very thick top line and a “Rear Inverted Crown” sloping down behind it.  Tour Edge was clever in their color choice because the large black section becomes largely invisible when you’re playing (see the pictures above versus below).

The Iron-Wood does have a fair amount of offset, but it’s less than I expected.  Its large face and massive sole made me feel like I couldn’t miss .  The only thing I didn’t like is that this club really wants to sit shut at address.  I had to be aware of holding the face square before taking my grip.

In the bag, the Iron-Wood has the appearance of a hybrid.  The sole is tastefully branded, and Tour Edge even includes a woven headcover to keep it free from bag chatter.

Sound & Feel

At impact, the HL4 Iron-Wood is more iron than wood or hybrid, but it is a blend.  The sound of contact is quiet and mid-pitch, a small “click.”   It sounds fast but not explosive.

The one predictable downside to a club this forgiving is that it’s hard to feel mishits.  If you put one way on the toe or heel, you’ll know, but small misses are covered up.  There’s almost no change in impact sound regardless of strike quality.

Performance

The Tour Edge HL4 Iron-Wood is more forgiving than the grandmother you see twice a year .  It barely matters what kind of swing you make: the ball is going to get airborne and it’s going a long way.

At the heart of the Iron-Wood’s performance is the wide, heavy sole.  One advantage of the wide sole is that it doesn’t want to dig.  Yes, you can still hit a fat shot, but unless you swing it like an ax, the sole wants to work out of the turf.  Putting so much weight low also makes this club very high launching.  I’ve never hit a club that sends the ball this far and makes the ball land so softly .

My only word of warning is that this club does prefer going left.  For a lot of players, that’s a huge benefit – it will fight their slice.  For the hooker, this club is still very playable, but you do need to be aware of the possibility of the big left.

With the entire HL4 line, Tour Edge is making custom fitting (length, shaft flex, grip size) available at an affordable price.  The HL4 line also offers unprecedented flexibility in creating an iron set .  Tour Edge offers the HL4 hybrid from 3I-6I, an entire set of Iron-Woods all the way from 3I to lob wedge, and a standard iron set.  However you put your set together, it will making the game easier.

Whether you’re looking to put together an entire easy-to-hit set, doing a combo set, or just replacing a rarely-used long iron, the Tour Edge HL4 is a great choice.  It’s incredibly easy to hit and at just $79, it won’t break the bank.

Sounds like a easy driving iron to hit… If you’re other clubs have little offset, and this one has more. Would you tend to pull it more because of the offset.

' src=

That’s a possibility. It depends how the given player reacts to offset and the club’s weight and shaft.

' src=

I’ve really been wanting to try one of these iron-woods. The price is reasonable and the custom fit process makes it very attractive.

' src=

I played the geneation before these. The HL3. These are very similar except the back of the club on the HL3 was rounded instead of concave. They are very good clubs and like he said, very forgiving. I bought a full set and found them very easy to use. I wanted forgiveness as I was coming back to the game after years away. I have since moved to a more traditional iron set, Callaway Apex, but still game a Tour Edge putter. These are solid clubs at a great price. Highly recommended.

' src=

These clubs work well off of bare lies. I mix the 5 and 6 with my mizuno jpx 900’s during the summer when we have grass and play the full set during the winter months

' src=

I am a big fan of the HL3/4 line. Out of frustration with my hybrids I gave the HL3 #3 ironwood a try last year and it has saved my game. Since then I added the demo HL4 #6 and plan to also get the #5.

' src=

Bought one to fill a gap in my bag and couldn’t be happier! Easy to hit, flies straight and goes the distance I was looking for, and .. all at a really great price! Great long iron replacement or for those who don’t like hybrids. Oh, and, the stock Mamiya shaft .. at least for me, a regular recreational hacker .. works well, too. #SecretGiveaway4

' src=

I purchased the whole set. My first round I had 4 birdies on the back 9.. Don’t make such a big deal of offset. I carry a 4 handicap and the offset never makes me pull the ball left. If you want to go low? Put your ego away and play a CLUB THAT WILL LOWER YOUR SCORES AND BRING MORE FUN TO THE GAME!!

Hi Matt, currently a 16 handicap and thinking of the Tour Edge HL4 2 18 Degree Iron Wood or the Ping G700/710 in a 4 Iron Power Spec 18.5 Degree to fill a hole in my bag mainly to be used of the tee in tight fairways. Having reviewed them both, would you have any recommendations?

I haven’t hit the new G710 yet (they’re on their way). Between the G700 and the HL4 Iron-Wood, I would ask you how much do you want something that looks more like an iron. If you want the bigger head, the HL4 is great. If you really want an iron, you need to go with the G700. The other element in this is that the HL4, especially with its graphite shaft, is much easier to get airborne.

Thanks for the update and comparison on the G700 and HL4. I’m a 14 handicap and have no problem launching irons/hybrid and if anything launch them too high. Ideally just looking for a driving iron off the tee and at the moment is a choice of the G700 4 iron in power spec 18.5 degree, Ping G410 Crossover 2 iron 17 degree or the HL4 in 2 iron wood 18 degree. Just trying to getting opinions of what you think is better really?

There’s no objective “better,” it’s really just a matter of what works best for you. All three options are high quality and will work well if they’re fit correctly.

' src=

For someone that is struggling with traditional irons (shanking constantly), would these be an alternative? I love hitting my callaway XR 3 hybrid

Because of the offset in these clubs, I’m not sure they’d be the best quick fix for a case of the laterals.

' src=

How does the HL4 compare to the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo irons ?

I haven’t hit the HB Turbo irons, so I can’t offer a comparison.

' src=

Hi, I have tour edge Bazookas. Looking at getting the hl4s. My current irons are 3,4,5 hybrids and the rest irons. The iron hybrid set includes 2 iron woods (6 & 7). I’m not sure what those are or if I need them. I was also told I should steel shafts not graphite. Not sure why, wouldn’t graphite be better. I play 2-3 times every 2 weeks and have been avg. 105 over my last 4 rounds. Any input would be much appreciated. Hope to purchase this week.

I would suggest finding a Tour Edge fitter so you can test both the graphite and steel shafts.

' src=

When hitting the hl4 irons .do you need to open the face because of the offset

I did not, I just understood that the shot pattern would be a bit further left than normal.

Thanks! I have it narrowed down to the Tour Edge HL4, Callaway Rogue X and the Taylor Made M6. All hybrid sets. What are your thoughts on all 3. Do you like one over the other. My swing speed is around 84. Also I’ve noticed, most sets now have a a 4 & 5 hybrid but, no 3 hybrid. Why is that?

I can only assume that OEMs are designing their sets to match the preferences of the majority of consumers. We have reviews of all the irons and hybrids that you listed here on the site. Beyond that, I can only recommend that you get fit so that you find the set that works best for your swing.

' src=

I got a 6 and 7 ironwood. The courses i usually play have elevated greens and my approach shots from 140 to 160 were usually short in the bunker or too hot slipping across the green and off the back. But, I cant hit these ironwood consistantly. I think I should hit them like an iron but at address they look like a hybrid and I sweep them and get nothing.

That’s understandable, a lot of people have trouble trying to not “pick” a hybrid.

Hi, went to get fit and hit some clubs at 2 places. Short story, keeping my irons but, purchased the M6 driver and will purchase a 3 wood. I was hitting well, 15 -20 more yards Question; I was getting a high launch angle. Even after lowering the ball. The driver had the atmos orange 5R. Would I be better off with the atmos black 6 Which is supposed to have a lower launch? Thoughts? Thanks!

If you were getting 15-20 more yards, why would you worry about the launch angle being too high?

' src=

Thanks so much for your review! Got a great deal on these with a custom length. My length is usually +.5 because I’m a taller player. Previously, I was also playing a higher loft (+2) to get the ball airborne. Since these seem to do that more naturally and I was prob getting too much loft previously, I am hoping these will be a better fit and more forgiving. Really am interested to see the flight pattern since I had a terrible slice (still do with driver), but since taking a lesson, I am pulling irons to the left pretty consistently with a regular hook. Might be time for another lesson!

' src=

I’ve been hitting Ping G-15 Hybrids; 17, 20, and 23 degrees for years but I am now looking at more modern clubs. I carry no fairway woods. The G-15’s look more like todays Tour Edge Iron Woods. I am comfortable with the large offset and look of the G-15’s. I’ve tried conventional hybrids but tend to have more mishits. Would the HL4 iron woods be as long and as foregiving as the G-15’s I currently use? The G-15’s are still very popular as evidenced by how hard it is to find used ones for sale. I’ve lost a few over the years because I often use them for chipping around the green. I currently use a 12 degree HL4 offset driver.

Your thoughts?

I would offer my stock advice: try them, and some other options, in a fitting. See what can outperform you current clubs and go with that.

' src=

I have really tried to hit a fairway wood – 3 or 5 – and I have hybrids 4,5 and 6 but I hit the ball the best with Tour Edge hybrid irons. I have a full set – 2 thru 9 and a pitching wedge. I also have a driver and a putter in my bag. Thats all I need for a relaxing round of golf.

  4. Tour Edge HL4 Driver Review
