Starting at the Peninsula Hotel and Spa in Agia Pelagia, we give you a theoretical introduction and a small driving practise, before we take the adventure in our hands and the quads on the road.

Lonely tracks away from main traffic and in the midst of the most beautiful nature take you to a beautiful cliff path along the sea and later into the heights of Achlada.

Here we enjoy a breathtaking view over the surrounding area, before we continue to the long time ago and abruptly abandoned ghost village of Achlada. Find out more about the background of the village, the ancient and traditional Cretan way of life and share a special personal moment with the three last and only inhabitants of this village.  Enjoy a drive and a walk through this village which is not accessible by any other means.

We continue, beginning in the heights of Achlada, passing in between the mountains in breathtaking natural surroundings to Fodele, a traditional Cretan village, which is also called the village of the oranges and is the birthplace of the famous painter ‘El Greco’. Here you can explore Crete’s culture and marvel at its local handicrafts. Time for some shopping or a visit of the museum or its orthodox churches is of course considered.

For those of you who like it relaxed there is the possibility to enjoy a freshly squeezed orange juice from the local oranges in the calm.

Fodele is not only known as the birthplace of El Greco and its great number of orange trees but also for its traditional handicrafts

A tour in the early evening hours takes you through beautiful nature, breathtaking view-points and lets you enjoy the fresh evening breeze. 

This tour takes you to the heights of Rogdia. In Rogdia you have the possibility to visit the 16th century tower of Modino. 

From there on you continue to Achlada to visit the mysterious ghost village. After a short guided tour in this village you carry on to a traditional cafe where we offer you a free tasting of home made local jam, honey and olive oil whilst you enjoy a breathtaking view and  the sun setting into the sea between the mountains. 

By 21:00 we have returned to our premises, Please note that according to the season arrival and departure times may vary.

The Quad Bike safari tour is a firm favourite, offering guests an exciting and adventurous opportunity to ‘rough it up’ in Aquila’s 10 000 hectare wildlife reserve.  No prior experience is necessary for the quad bike safari tour.

Aquila’s quad bike one day tour offers guests the chance to see South Africa’s iconic wildlife up-close and in-person, capture stunning wildlife photos, and experience an authentic African safari without travelling far Cape Town. All quad bike safari tours are led by two qualified game rangers, ensuring guests have the best opportunity to see the Karoo’s natural fauna and flora.

Welcome drinks, buffet breakfast and lunch, a 1 to 2 hour quad bike safari outride, and a complimentary Eco Synergy Tour. Don’t forget to pack your swimming costume, sunblock and hat, as guests are invited to enjoy Aquila’s outdoor infinity pool during the safari leisure time.

Beverages, transfers, and activities (other than specified). Transport can be booked as an optional add-on.

Please Note: Maximum weight per person: 95Kgs. Minimum age requirement: 16 years and older (250cc horsepower quad bikes). There are a maximum number of 10 people per quad bike experience, and only one person per quad bike.

Safari Outrides:

Duration of game drives, safari outrides, and departure times, are approximate and dependent on the interaction of the guests with the ranger and the sightings of animals.

Standard transport is R995.00 per adult (Valid Nov 2023 – Oct 2024). Transport can only be booked before 3pm for the following day arrival. Pick up times for day trip transport are between  05h45 – 06h45 am.

• Age 3 and under: no charge with accompanying adult;
• Age 11 and under : 50% of the adult rate;
• Age 12 and over: pay full price.  

Please Note: Transport to the reserve and back can be booked as an additional add-on. All foreign guests travelling with Aquila’s transport service are required to carry their passports.

Pick up locations and times will be confirmed by a safari consultant the evening before your scheduled departure date. Please ensure your contact details (provided at the time of your booking) are accurate and valid for South Africa.

You’ll acquire a very special appreciation of the uniquely beautiful landscapes when you explore salt pans, sand dunes, and rolling hills off road, with nothing between you and the vast expanses. It’s the perfect way for adrenaline junkies to get their fix while immersing themselves in the great African outdoors on an ATV safari or quad biking safari.

In Africa, a quad biking safari is offered in South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, Egypt, and Morocco. Our personal favorites are quad biking at Jack’s Camp in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park , Botswana, or at Gold Sand Camp or Dar Ahlam in the Moroccan Sahara . You can even take advantage of quad biking in the Red Sea region of Egypt. Alternatively, choose to be driven by a local on a jeep adventure bashing the dunes in Siwa , Egypt, followed by a cook out under the desert stars. Or, hop in a local Bedouin’s jeep to navigate the rocky deserts of Wadi Rum , Jordan and Israel’s Negev Desert .

Age restrictions for any passenger will range between 5 years and 80 years (those less than 5 or older than 80 are not allowed to fly), with any declaration form signed stating no serious medical problems such as:- Heart conditions – Knee or back bone surgeries in the last six months – Phobia of height – Pregnant ladies. Physical/mentality disabilities; or age group (5-12) considered adults.

Balloon flights typically occur from September to May each year with slight variations due to Dubai weather; weather in early spring can often be unpredicted or unpredictable; but winter flights usually offer clear views of desert dunes, sun rise, mountains on the south east side and the skyline of Dubai on its north western side.
