But will you have internet plan?  In that case, they can text you or better yet, use WhatsApp and they can call or text and you can call out and even do a video call with a decent connection.

I also need the phone numbers to leave for my folks at home  - my parents are elderly and don't have cell phones or a computer so good ole Ma Bell (Pa Rogers? 🤣 🤣 )  is it for them.     I'm glad they have the ship numbers available still.

those phone numbers don't look right - they are only 9 digits, US numbers are 10 long, all except Sky Princess

Yes, we have the "package", but I was inquiring about the numbers for possible urgent  emergency contact

Read the paragraph above the list of numbers that outlines how to dial using the IDD and global ocean codes preceding the number for each ship.

My Mom is elderly and would not be able to use a cell phone or computer to contact us either.  We have friends or my brother set up to do so if needed.  They contact us using Whats App or wifi calling.  Sometimes text depending on where we are.  I wonder what the charge would be to call the ship?

Accessible Cruises on Princess Cruises

Princess cruises for guests with special needs.

Princess has long placed a high priority on making cruise vacations accessible for all guests, including those with special needs. The company initiated its award-winning Princess Access SM program in 1992 to raise the standards of cruise ship accessibility across the fleet, while keeping in mind the constraints and special considerations inherent to a ship at sea. Even before this time, however, Princess' well-recognized guest service extended to accessible cruising. Princess' efforts in this area have garnered them many awards and recognition.

Onboard Accessibility

The Princess fleet offers more than 350 wheelchair-accessible cabins. Each vessel features up to 31 accessible cabins, across a variety of stateroom categories. These rooms are designed for wheelchair maneuverability, with widened doorways into both the cabin and its bathroom; wheel-in showers, hand-held showerheads and bath distress alarms; as well as lowered closet railings, sinks, and handrails; and removed or revamped thresholds. Additional equipment is also available on request, such as toilet seat raisers, shower stools and bed boards.

Wheelchair users will find access-friendly design across most of the Princess fleet, making it easy to enjoy each vessel's restaurants, theaters, spas, lounges and open deck space. Elevators have generous 36- to 42-inch doorways, and wheelchair seating is available in show lounges and other public spaces.

For additional details on prearranged mobility equipment rentals, please contact:

Sight & Hearing Disabilities

Guests with sight and hearing disabilities will find vessels equipped with such helpful features as Braille elevator call buttons, audible arrival sounds and infrared listening assistance systems in the Princess theaters. ADA "all in one" kits are available upon request — featuring telephone amplifiers, visual smoke detectors, door knock sensors, text telephones (TDD) and other aids. In-cabin movies feature close captioning, and ship libraries feature a selection of books on tape.

Princess ships also welcome service animals, and have hosted a variety of such special helpers, including seeing-eye dogs, hearing-assistance dogs, and even a "helping hands" monkey.

On Shore Accessibility

On shore, Princess continues to innovate accessibility for guests. Special gangway mechanisms on most ships simplify embarkation and disembarkation for wheelchair guests in many world-wide ports. While onshore facilities and levels of access vary, Princess has made efforts to expand accessible offerings by working with local service providers. In St. Thomas, for example, Princess was instrumental in developing tours featuring the island's only accessible trolley. The line's own private beach call in the Bahamas, Princess Cays, features ramps for easier access. Guests will find guidelines in Princess' shore excursion listings to indicate the level of access for each tour.

Alaska cruisetour guests will find their vacations accessible as well. All of Princess' custom-built Alaska wilderness lodges meet ADA guidelines, with accessible rooms and public spaces. The company's exclusive Midnight Sun Express® railcars also offer access to the lower levels of the car, including dining areas and outside observation platforms.

Travelers with disabilities should check in with the onboard Tour Office to ensure all shore excursions can accommodate them. Not all port facilities are accessible for those using mobility devices. Ports may be accessed by a variety of methods including a ramped gangway, a series of steps or by tender. In some cases, you may be able to access the tender, but the shoreside facility will not be accessible. Many ports of call use a mechanism known as a "stair climber" to assist guests up and down the gangway. Guests must transfer to a Princess wheelchair, which is connected to the stair climber and operated by the ship's personnel. If you cannot transfer or your personal mobility device cannot be easily disembarked, you may be precluded from going ashore. With your safety and comfort in mind, the decision to permit or prohibit guests from going ashore will be made on each occasion by the ship's Captain, and the decision will be final. Ports that normally use tenders to access the shore are noted on the itinerary.

If you will require oxygen supplementation during your sailing, please contact our Fleet Medical Department at (661)753-2680. You will be asked to send a letter or prescription from your doctor. You will also be required to let us know the type of equipment you will be using and whether you will be bringing your own supplies or if you will be having the equipment delivered to the ship.

Guests undergoing dialysis should be aware that Princess' ships' medical facilities are similar to those of an urgent care center and do not have available specialists or specialized facilities. Should an emergency situation arise during the course of your cruise, it is recommended that you be prepared to provide a complete list of medical conditions, medications, and allergies to the medical center.

Although Princess strongly recommends against undertaking the risks involved, they will allow a guest requiring peritoneal or hemodialysis to travel on their ships at the guest's own risk . It is recommended that a guest requiring dialysis consults with his or her nephrologist prior to making travel arrangements. You should be stable on your dialysis treatments for a period of at least 12 months prior to sailing.

Before booking a cruise, the treating nephrologist should consider carefully the following:

  • There is no nephrologist available on any of the Princess cruise ships for dialysis patients.
  • Ships are not equipped with back-up battery support for dialysis related equipment.
  • A guest may be at sea for several days without any immediate hospital and/or specialist back up, and if the itinerary is not within the U.S., the availability of specialized shore side facilities can be extremely limited.

The risks to the guest who misses an appointed treatment are very serious, with little recourse available while at sea. The guest assumes these risks when a ship is prevented from entering a planned port of call for any reason.

Guests are expected to make all arrangements regarding dialysis, whether self-administered onboard or at a shore side facility. Environmental Officers can assure that dialysis waste disposal policies are followed, including providing the stateroom with a closed lid waste receptacle lined with a bio-hazardous bag for care of bags or pouches of bio-hazardous waste.

Finally, you should be aware that there are charges associated with being treated in the medical facility during the course of the cruise, and that ordinary trip travel interruption insurance does not generally cover such treatment costs if you require medical consultation or treatment. An itemized bill will be provided which can be submitted to the guest’s health insurance company after the required treatment is charged to the onboard account.

Accommodations for guests with special needs can vary by cruise line and by ship and changes can be made at any time without notice. It is important that you advise your agent at the time of booking about any disabilities or special requirements that you may have so that your needs can be assessed accordingly.

I should have checked yelp before signing up for this cruise. We just got back from the Ruby Princess cruise to Alaska. Tested positive for COVID of course. All 4 of us!! The ship is a petrie dish of viral plague. We had a mini suite - it was comfortable enough - especially because I spent the last two days in the suite sick and coughing my head off. The furniture is old and worn - the bed was comfortable enough. the TV was OK but if you wanted to watch a movie it cut off about 2/3rd's of the way through - so no endings??? The food at the Crown Grill was excellent but there is SO much of it - it's a waste - I felt so guilty sening a 2/3rds full plate back. Sabatini's Italian was good - we went there night two. The buffet was horrid - couldn't stand the smell of that whole deck! Fortuntely deck 15 is about 1/3rd outside! Ice cream is frozen coffee creamer. Room service - or the dine my way was OK - I did find a couple of things that were good - we had coffee delivered every morning. The room Steward was great - he is from the Phillipines works 9 months on the ship and goes home for3 months. He works hard and we were happy we got him! Be safe Edgardo!! The entertainment was pretty corny - some of the music was great. A couple of "torch song" singers have made a vocational error. The excursions were insanely expensive so we didn't do any of them. The stops are subjet to change so beware! There were two medical emergencies on the cruise so we missed Juneau - Skagway is fun but mainly for the breweries. Shops on all stops were not worth the effort - best to get off the ship for some decent food. The liquor is all watered down - just like in Vegas when you order the free margarita - you can have 10 of them on still stand up straight! Best to stick with beer and wine. We had a drink package but had to pay for most of the wines we wanted - they were "not on the package". The shops on board are useless and overpriced. The jewelry is pushed very hard - avoid those shops completely - don't even glance their way when passing! The spa was fun! I got the most expensive mani-pedi of my life but it was very relaxing and Monique was charming. That day the sea was really rough so snuggling into a large chair for foot pampering was wonderful! Now for the worst part ........ when we were in Glacier Bay (not an animal in sight) a huge flock of seagulls swarmed on one side of the ship. We looked along the side of the ship and they were dumping gallons and gallons of sewage into Glacier Bay. It poured out of the ship turning the water dark grey. It made me so ashamed that I had paid for this! DO NOT ever book a cruise on Princess!!!

This is the worst cruise line. The app and website are confusing. I ordered my medallion on the app but it was extremely confusing to know if I ordered it or not. But I received an email confirming that I did in fact order it but only to find out that I only ordered the clip. Like why would you say medallion in the email when it's wrong? Like how am I supposed to know I'm ordering the right thing!?! So now supposedly if you don't have the medallion you have to wait in an extremely long line to get on the cruise. But Royal is really fast at getting you on without a medallion. I will never cruise with princess again because your website and app are confusing and when I call for help none of your staff know the answer. So not only is your website and app awful but your own staff can't even help me. I will be letting everyone know on my SM that if they cruise with princess to look forward to dealing with the confusing app that no longer worked and then had to download a new app and still when I went to buy my medallion that when it said it was being sent that it really wasn't. You need to invest more money to get an engineer to fix your website and app. And you need to have your employees better informed about payment etc. because I called and tried to add a credit card and they couldn't. They didn't know how to add a credit card and the app would keep searching. Like nothing works not your website, app, or your phone number. We go on cruises every year and we wanted to try princess this year. Already this is a terrible cruise line. Also you have to upgrade your package to get the stuff that is free on Royal cruise. Like the gym is free on Royal but you have to pay on princess. The coffee, bakery, pizza, restaurant are free on Royal but on princess you have to pay for all of that. And you know I don't mind paying for all of that because I can afford it but what really makes me mad is that your website and app aren't user friendly and is confusing.

I find it interesting there are no reviews for Mexican journeys. Carnival Cruises owns Princess Cruises and let me say they are total scammer. Sure they have all the standard amenities as other cruise lines but their food is just miserable. Please read on... So we booked a ten day cruise and after thinking about a mouth watering cruise buffet, we were totally disappointed. I mean beyond let down. It's not a buffet, it's worse than a chow line in the navy. I'll bet you a donut, the food is better on an aircraft carrier. You'd think they have crab at least one day in 10 days. Nope! A pile of shrimp on ice? Not here they don't. What they do have are stacks of bananas and cold plums. They have hash browns bought at Costco. The other night was German Night, sausages.... You might think I'm being picky but come on. In their "pastry pantry" they had orange and green jello dishes and tiny deserts. If you drink just water, your card won't get charged other than the daily per person tip charge. You'd think sodas would be free but no, you're almost forced to buy a soda plan. As we stood in the chow line I commented to the guy in front of me, "Not going to do another Princess Cruise." He responded, "I totally hear you!" I understand the chefs are working under a corporate budget but food is what brings people to their shops. Go some place else. If you're hoping for a great buffet, Royal Princess isn't the place...

Bistro.... They are the same

Bistro.... They are the same

Cereals?

Rated one star because I haven't even boarded the cruise yet! I found this yelp page because I was [do not laugh] looking to see if there is a brick and mortar Princess headquarters in San Francisco...because I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THIS APP! And then I start reading the reviews here. I'm really worried about this cruise now based on how glitchy the app already appears to be not to mention the customer service. The guy today at Princess told me to switch back and forth from the old to new app to find dining reservations that were made several weeks ago and for our spa appointments. When I commented that why would the old app be anymore helpful than the new app, he said "This is a recorded line so all your comments will be noted for further review. Keep them coming." LOL. Still can't find my reservations. Can't download the app onto my computer. I'm pretty sure my pricey shore excursions are set in stone since I see the charges on my card. Fingers crossed that this cruise doesn't turn out to be a dud.

HORRIBLE Customer Service. our booking was cancelled without our knowledge. Trying to rectify is a total dog's dinner. Customer Service hold times...commitments made to call back (with no call following)...movement to Instagram and Whatsapp where follow-up is still non-existent. I guess their business is good enough that they do not need to respond.

Photo of Geoff I.

I've taken 5+ Princess Cruises and generally, Princes sCruises has exceeded my expectations- all were very enjoyable. my complaint is with how Princess Cruises constantly pushes their " Medallian Ap" I do not have a computer that can download ANY aps.......... Please STOP pushing your Medallion Ap- please be considerate, not every passenger has the ability or the desire to download an ap in order to take your cruise.

Caribbean FOOD: We never did get a reservation for the Crown Grill even though we started 30 days before sailing. A friend tipped the hostess $20 to get a table. And the main dining room and buffet were terrible. In fact, the food at every place except Sabatini's was bad. The only good dessert was also at Sabatini's Room service was a joke. The ap on the tv never worked, my medallion never worked, so I called in orders. The food, if we even got it, was cold, except the milk for the cereal, which was room temperature. Entertainment: was 3rd rate at best. The band by the pool was a two high school age guys that the acoustic so loud and out of tune and musical ability were so bad many were getting up and leaving the pool that day. Superbowl game would have been great to watch on the screen but had to go get our own food and drinks at the bar and lost our seat to watch the game entertainment ended by about 1100 in most venues so forced to go back to rooms and no food to be found at night except for the café where the sandwiches and dessert were dried out and old and inedible (except casino until 1:00 which forced many people to go into the casino if they didn't want to go to bed. Sounds like a good way to make more money from the customers. And they charged for drinks in the casino even with premium package (although they removed when we complained). Pool: As usual, rude passengers put towels on the lounges then disappeared for hours. When will someone start enforcing the rules? Jacuzzis warm at most. As you know, we didn't get to go to Princess Cays, which couldn't be helped, but that was the main attraction for Heidi who is a sun worshipper, In short, I've had better cruises on Carnival.

Sailing on Princess Cruises, from San Francisco to Vancouver, April 28, 2003. I got an email from United, saying my post-cruise flight had been changed from 12:28 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Not a good change. I call the airline and they couldn't help because Princess had not yet ticketed the reservation. This is important because it meant that United could move us to a different flight, which they did. I had seat assignments and the reservation is showing up in my United account, however. United said they could change our reservation back for $367. The ticket is still not ticketed, meaning United could change our flight again, say, to 6:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. I called Princess. Every time I use the word "Hold," that means 20 minutes spent on Hold. I call Princess and was put on Hold. They have a nice feature where they'll call you back, without losing your place in line. After a long explanation, the rep said that "United could have raised the fare." Clearly, she has not been trained well. I don't blame her and I never punch down. I "can't speak with a supervisor" because there are none available on a weekend. So, I call back on Monday. Hold. This rep can't help me. Transfer to supervisor. Hold. A non-supervisor picked up, meaning I was just put back into the regular queue. Hold, waiting now for the Air Department="Would you like to be called back on this number...800.774.6237?" No, that's YOUR number, so I entered mine. Hold. I got another non-supervisor, not in the Air Department. Hold. I got through to the Air Department! Another explanation and the rep, Carla, went to her supervisor, I suppose, and came back to tell me that I'm on the hook for the $367. "Could you please have your supervisor call me?" No, that's not possible. I asked Carla twice why I should be the one who has to pay and she didn't care for this so she hung up on me or tried to transfer me to her supervisor and I got disconnected. I called back. Hold. Long explanation and asked for an Air Department supervisor. Hold. The call gets answered by another non-supervisory rep. Hold. I get disconnected after awhile. I called back. Hold. Answered, and transferred to an Air Department supervisor. Hold. Got disconnected. This is my second and, yes, last cruise with Princess. I've got about 35 with Celebrity and will be glad to go back to them. I think Princess should pick up the cost of the change. I emailed them and they sent me a notification, telling me about the reservation change. Clearly, they didn't read what I said.

Long lines. More than an hour standing in the rain to get back in ship. Erroneous postings in newsletter. So many things - so easy to fix. New management. They don't care. Staff admits it.

Ketchikan residents protest imitation totem poles carved by convicted murderer

demonstrators

Several dozen people gathered in the rain last week across the street from a coned-off Ketchikan property. They held signs saying “No Fake Totem Poles” and “Protect Indigenous Artists.” They faced a small construction vehicle sitting atop a pile of rubble spilling onto two carved, wooden poles.

Leaders from a number of Native groups turned out for the May 5 protest, including Rob Sanderson, 3rd Vice President of the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.

“The bottom line is that our people have come too far, too long to get to where we’re at,” Sanderson said to the crowd, gesturing over to the poles lying on the ground. “When I look at these poles, that’s a slap to the face of our local artists here in Ketchikan and abroad.”

At first glance, the poles resemble the art forms carved by Northwest Coast Indigenous artists for thousands of years. But in an interview with the  Ketchikan Daily News , owner Joseph Machini said that he bought the poles in 2008 from a man named Carl Muggli. An archived version of Muggli’s now-defunct business website explained that he and his wife sold “Northwest Coast Native inspired art,” and included a disclaimer that their poles were not carved by “any Native American tribes.”

In a bizarre twist, Muggli was later  charged with murdering his wife  with one of the 700-pound poles they crafted together. He eventually pleaded guilty in 2013 to second-degree unintentional murder.

Machini acknowledged that unfortunate history to the Daily News, and explained that he had sought poles from out-of-state suppliers because he wanted something done quickly, and “the Indians here were very busy.”

Machini plans to build five small kiosk shops on the narrow hillside property, where vendors will sell local arts and crafts. In a digital rendering shared with the Daily News, the imitation poles can be seen adorning the planned “Potlatch Market.”

demonstrators

Back at the protest, Willard Jackson, a Teiḵweidí Brown Bear spiritual leader, shared a story about respect before leading a song.

“This man doesn’t got any respect! Doesn’t have any at all,” Jackson said, referring to Machini. “It’s time we stand up and move forward as Native people! This is our land. It lives in our heart!”

Machini’s property sits directly across from one of Ketchikan’s cruise ship docks, and a number of disembarking tourists stopped to watch the protest. Ketchikan Indian Community President Norm Skan said that demonstration was just the beginning.

“Because really, as I always say, somebody from Iowa getting off one of these cruise ships is not going to know the difference,” Skan said. “But we know.”

Skan said he appreciates the business idea of creating spaces to sell local goods, but the imported poles are a different story.

“We don’t want these fake poles here made by a non-native person in Minnesota brought to our community and put up in Tlingit land,” Skan said. “And I’m surprised that our local politicians would put up with that, it just don’t make sense to me.”

a cruise ship

In fact, one local politician did raise the issue at a Ketchikan City Council meeting days before the protest. Vice-Mayor Janalee Gage addressed her fellow council members during the citizen comment section.

“If we allow these poles to be raised, we will be no better than the individual who thought bringing those poles here that were carved by a non-native from Minnesota was okay,” Gage said. “This is appropriation at its finest.”

Gage cited the  1990 Indian Arts and Crafts Act , which prohibits the sale of products that are falsely marketed as being produced by Native artists.

“The owner may not be selling these poles, but he is selling an idea to those unsuspecting visitors, and our locals, that get off the ships,” Gage said. “They will think these are real, Native art.”

Gage requested a future agenda item to discuss what can be done.

City Manager Delilah Walsh has been looking into what potential regulation might look like to share with the Council. In a phone interview, she said the city works closely with Native organizations to promote authentic Alaska Native art.

“And we very much want to not only preserve, but to support not only that historic aspect of our local culture, but to respect what those items reflect,” Walsh said.

Walsh said that was the purpose behind the creation of the Totem Heritage Center, and its Native Art Studies program.

“It’s absolutely not acceptable for culturally appropriated poles to be surrounded with debris and treated as such,” Walsh said.

When it comes to the Indian Arts and Crafts Act though, Walsh said the law is really only aimed at fake items that are displayed for sale, whereas the Minnesotan poles are simply decorative.

a demonstrator

Some residents are also concerned that the property owner has been drilling into the hillside to make room for the kiosk buildings. A busy, one-lane tunnel runs through that same hillside, and critics say the excavation endangers both the tunnel and the homes directly above it.

Walsh said Machini’s original building permit did not include permission to excavate, but once he was granted that, he obtained the services of an engineering firm which has been monitoring for seismic activity from the drilling. Walsh said thus far, the operation is structurally sound.

As far as what city management can do to intervene, Walsh said their authority is limited to building codes.

The city actually filed a  lawsuit against Machini in 2015  for failing to remove the burned down structure of a building he owned on the same tunnel-adjacent property. But Walsh said that didn’t come into play when approving his current building permit.

“Simply because, building code does not talk about prior performance,” Walsh said. “So code doesn’t say ‘if you had a bad relationship or interaction with the city in the past.’ That’s not something that would be considered.”

The City Council will discuss its regulatory authority over the imitation totem poles at its next meeting on Thursday. Walsh said the Council could try to enact new regulations, but that may be difficult due to the First Amendment rights of private property owners.
