SINGAPORE, 1 April 2022: Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, branded Visit Maldives, teams up with Pacific World Travel to launch an e-learning programme for Southeast Asian travel agents.

The programme runs through to 28 March 2023 and uses Pacific World Travel’s sales and marketing network across Southeast Asia.

The joint e-learning programme will promote the Maldives as a preferred and safe tourist destination targeting the Southeast Asian outbound travel market.

A dedicated website provides the e-learning sessions featuring the latest information about the Maldives for travel trade professionals recruited from Pacific World Travel’s tour operators and travel agents network.

Over 600 travel partners linked to Pacific World Travel will participate in the initial programme, with the reach extending to more than 3000 travel partners over one year.

The e-learning programme covers three modules, with the first module covering basic destination information, followed by module two focusing on identifying and presenting the selling points of the destination. In contrast, the last module covers the latest travel guidelines, Covid-19 measures and updates.

The Maldives has also eased travel restrictions to allow visitors to enter the country without presenting a Covid-19 PCR negative result on arrival as long as travellers are fully vaccinated.

MATATO to Host Two Training Programs for the Travel Industry this December

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators, MATATO, in partnership with McQuire Rens & Jones, is bringing another series of training programs targeted for the hospitality industry. Two separate training programs are scheduled for 13th and 14th December respectively. McQuire Rens & Jones is a leading training institute based in Sri Lanka, featuring a popular portfolio of corporate training programs.

The two programs that are featuring in the Maldives are selected for their success in Sri Lanka and also for the response from members and partner companies who have participated in MATATO training events. Program modules and trainers are provided by McQuire Rens and Jones.

• Dealing with difficult customers

This program focuses on specialized techniques for managing customers who are difficult to handle. Ways not only to best address their complaints but also to convert them into loyal customers.

• Managing Multiple Tasks, Objectives and deadlines

Training on task management, organization, prioritizing deadlines and maintaining a high level of personal motivation under difficult and challenging situations.

Both training programs will be conducted in Male’, at Champa Central Hotel. For each program, a limited number of 60 participants will be accepted.

MATATO training initiatives are intended for human capacity and skills development in the tourism industry, thus our training programs are mainly targeted for the hospitality sector. However, most of these programs are beneficial for employers and employers across the board in the service industry. Maldives directs new training campaign at India agents

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is working with online B2B reseller platform, 2HUB, to conduct the Destination Online Training programme in India.

Running from February 16 until May 16, 2022, the programme aims to equip travel agents in India with the latest information about the Maldives’ tourism industry, from safe measures taken by tourism suppliers to unique experiences in the destination that will appeal to Indian travellers.

2HUB has created a dedicated online platform for this training campaign. Members of 2HUB, including tour operators and travel agents, can log into the website and access e-learning content at their convenience.

More than 500 travel partners from India are expected to participate in the programme.

As these travel partners interact directly with more than 120,000 high potential travellers, MMPRC hopes that the training campaign will reinforce India as the Maldives’ fastest growing source market

India is among the top source markets to the Maldives in 2021. Thus far in 2022, the destination has welcomed 13,947 travellers from India.

Useful information for planning your vacation in the Maldives

The official language of the Maldives is Maldivian Divehi, a dialect of Sinhala (spoken by most Sri Lankans), with script derived from Arabic. English is spoken in most hotels and visitor hubs and by officials.

The currency of the Maldives is the rufiyaa (Rf), however, euros and US dollars are also widely accepted. All major credit cards can be used at resorts, in restaurants and shops in Malé, and on several other islands. There’s an ATM in the airport if you’d like to withdraw rufiyaa but there’s normally a 5% charge. The rufiyaa is a closed currency, so you’ll need to change back any local cash before leaving as you’ll be unable to do so elsewhere.

In the Maldives you should try freshly caught fish and seafood, the local staple. Typically served with rice or roshi (flatbread), you’ll find fish in everything from breakfast dishes such as mas huni (smoked tuna with onion, chilli, and coconut) to street snacks such as baija (pastry stuffed with fish, onions, and coconut).

Most Maldivian dishes have Asian and Arabic influences, but you’ll find Asian and European food on most resort menus. Government and service taxes of 10% and 12% are also added to all costs locally.

Where a service charge isn’t already included, a 10% tip is expected in Maldivian restaurants. Some resorts automatically add 10% to bills for additional services.

Light, airy summer clothing is ideal in the Maldives where the strong sun means you’ll also need a hat and sunglasses. While beachwear is fine by the pool or on the beach, topless and nude sunbathing is prohibited. The Maldives is an Islamic country, and you should dress modestly in towns and villages and cover your shoulders and knees. Although you shouldn't touch corals, plastic shoes are a good precaution against cuts from sharp pieces of coral.

Choosing where to go in the Maldives can be tricky, but with around 100 different resorts you’ll easily find somewhere to suit you whether you’re on honeymoon, in search of total relaxation, or hoping to snorkel with manta rays and sharks. One of the joys of a trip to the Maldives is that there’s no need to go anywhere. Each island is its own all-inclusive destination with hotel, restaurants, water sports, and blissful white sands. You’ll arrive at the international airport in Malé and travel by seaplane or speedboat to your resort from there.

US citizens will be issued with a tourist visa valid for 30 days on arrival in the Maldives providing you can show evidence of an onward or return flight. 

Check that your passport is valid for six months beyond your date of departure from the Maldives and has one unstamped double page free.

Your doctor can provide you with immunization advice for the Maldives. You can also check the suggested vaccinations on the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and you should ensure you’re up to date with the recommended vaccinations at home.

MMPRC Begins a Destination Online Training Targeting the Indian Market

MMPRC (Visit Maldives) begins a Destination Online Training targeting the Indian Market with 2HUB. The program will be conducted from 16th February to 16th May 2022. 2HUB is an online B2B reseller platform that aggregates Asia’s largest portfolio of travel experiences for Travel Agents to discover, compare and book tours around the world with offerings of 40,000+ tours in 60+ countries.

For the Destination Online Training conducted with MMPRC, 2HUB will create a dedicated online platform to provide the latest and up-to-date information about Maldives’ tourism sector to travel trade professionals working in the Indian market. The information related to the destination will be available for the members of 2HUB, including tour operators and travel agents, by logging in to the website. This e-learning platform is flexible and allows members to join in at any time, anywhere, to know more about Maldives and what it has to offer to tourists.

Through this program MMPRC aims to familiarize travel trade professionals working in the Indian market with the latest information on measures taken in our resorts, hotels, guesthouses and liveaboards, and the unique experiences available in Maldives for travellers from this market. This is a great platform to market the destination as a safe haven, promote the unique geographical formation of the scattered islands which allow natural social distancing for travelers.

Over 500 travel partners from India are expected to participate in the program during the three months of the campaign.
