Star Trek: Prodigy’s Kate Mulgrew and Showrunners Open Up About What’s Ahead For Janeway And Chakotay’s Story

We have some answers for Voyager fans.

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Prodigy episode “Asylum.” Read at your own risk!

Star Trek: Prodigy has returned for the second half of Season 1, and what an episode it was! Dal and the Protostar crew managed to get their first taste of Starfleet, and longtime fans were treated to their first new Chakotay and Janeway scene in decades. The two Voyager characters shared a brief scene via Vice Admiral Janeway ’s hologram replay, so what’s next for the characters down the road? CinemaBlend has some answers thanks to actress Kate Mulgrew and Prodigy showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman .

To recap the scene in question, Vice Admiral Janeway (a.k.a. the real Janeway seen in Episode 10 ) replayed the final conversation she had with Captain Chakotay before he took the Protostar back to the Delta Quadrant. Janeway told Chakotay she was surprised he’d return to that section of space, and that the hologram of her they added to the ship was the only way she’d ever return. Janeway told Chakotay to be careful, and he assured her that if he ran into any trouble, she’d be the first person he called. As Janeway revealed though, Chakotay never called.

Kate Mulgrew has fielded questions about Janeway and Chakotay for decades since Voyager ’s ending, so she has a good read on how fans feel and what they want from Janeway and co-star Robert Beltran ’s character. I asked Mulgrew if fans will be happy with what’s to come on Star Trek: Prodigy with Janeway and Chakotay, and the actress gave a very encouraging answer:

They're going to be very happy. First of all, qualitatively, they can't be happier. The quality of this thing is sky-high. Kevin and Dan Hageman have seen to that. I think they will be very pleased with what happens between Vice Admiral Janeway and Chakotay… As you well know, it is a relationship of great importance and significance to Janeway. So, when she feels that she has lost anyone like that, let alone Chakotay, that was her second in command, she has an investment of great personal importance. We're going to see that really brought to bear in these episodes, and what she feels when she feels she may have lost. What she feels when she feels she may have won, and what she feels when she feels it can all disappear in a moment.

I can already hear the Janeway and Chakotay shippers screaming with excitement and renewing their Paramount+ subscriptions , and that’s completely understandable. Star Trek: Voyager never pulled the trigger on what many viewers saw as an obvious relationship pairing, but alas, romance was never in the cards during their trip back home through the Delta Quadrant. Fans were left wanting closure, and since there was never a Voyager movie , they never got it. (Kate Mulgrew likes the idea of a movie happening though.)

The good news is that Kevin and Dan Hageman confirmed to CinemaBlend that we will see something resolved with Janeway and Chakotay in Star Trek: Prodigy . The not-so-great follow-up comes from Dan Hageman, who said that it’s going to take a while for this arc between Janeway and Chakotay to play out:

I mean, we can say that it will not be resolved in Season 1.

Hey, you have to appreciate the honesty! Dan Hageman just dropped a subtle note for Star Trek: Prodigy fans who are eager for more to pump the brakes just a bit, because it’s going to take some time for this Janeway and Chakotay saga to unfold.

Kevin Hageman quickly chased on the comment with a bit more on the behind-the-scenes of Janeway and Chakotay’s reunion, and a positive upside to stretching the story between two seasons. After all, this technically means two seasons of Janeway and Chakotay story, and a lot more time to do justice to a storyline that Voyager never played out. He said:

The good thing is it keeps going into Season 2! And we promise that we will deliver the goods. We’re not just going to tease people and frustrate them. That would be terrible on our part to do, right? But I think we’re going to embrace what the next chapter is between these two characters. A lot of fans are divided on what they want to see happen with Janeway and Chakotay. I feel like we in the writers' room really discussed it a lot. We discussed it with Kate and Robert, and I feel like we came to a wonderful place that we’re really excited to share. But know that it’s a Season 1 and 2 arc with those two.

Rest assured, Star Trek: Voyager fans – answers will come (though not on other Voyager fan wish list items like Harry Kim’s redemption arc ). With that said, Prodigy is not strictly about Janeway and Chakotay, and there’s still plenty of story to tell regarding what’s happening with the young crew, and if they’ll ever be able to get to Starfleet with The Diviner’s weapon embedded in the Protostar . Franchise fans should have plenty to enjoy beyond following up on Voyager plot threads.

Star Trek: Prodigy streams on Paramount+ on Thursdays. It’s the latest Trek show to arrive on the platform, but more Trek fun is on the way in the coming months.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will feature emotional Chakotay story arc says Kate Mulgrew

By chad porto | jul 12, 2023.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will feature Kathryn Janeway having very a very emotional reaction to Chakotay.

Star Trek: Prodigy is hanging on by a thread. Its future is unknown. Where season two will air is unknown, and whether or not there will be a third season is unknown. It’s a show with very little concrete information anymore, thanks to the greedy owners over at Paramount.

What we do know is that there will be a season two, somewhere and somehow, as it’s already in production, and was in production prior to the cancelation on Paramount+. We don’t know much more than that, but thanks to Kate Mulgrew, we now know something more about season two.

It’ll feature Kathryne Janeway being very emotional over Chakotay, but the context isn’t exactly made clear. Speaking to fans via a TikTok video, Mulgrew went on to say the following about season two, Chakotay and Janeway;

Question: is there an episode of #StarTrekProdigy that you’re most looking forward to fans seeing? 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄: there’s an episode about 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘺... #SaveStarTrekProdigy 💜🖖🏻 pic.twitter.com/CzPRmwFaPB — 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐲 (@OnlyTheJaneway) July 10, 2023
"There’s an episode about Chakotay, that’s very good. It’s full of every conceivable true emotion Janeway could ever have. It’s a deep dive into her guilt, regret and her courage."

So with that said, what could this cryptic plot be about?

What is Kate Mulgrew hinting about with regard to Chakotay on Star Trek: Prodigy?

Mulgrew could be hinting at a great many things in her very cryptic plot synopsis. While the episode seemingly is about Chakotay, to some degree or another. While it may sound like some terrible happens to Chakotay, it’s also very likely that this is just a continuation of the first season’s story arc.

Chakotay had gone missing in the first season and his whereabouts remain unknown at the moment. So it stands to reason that maybe this episode is about Janeway processing her grief over losing her friend, or perhaps it could be the episode that reunites the two.

Plot A Course: 5 Moments That Defined Janeway and Chakotay's Relationship

The captain and first officer's relationship only grew stronger during their journey through the Delta Quadrant.

Spoilers for Star Trek: Prodigy — Season 1, Episode 11 " Asylum " to follow! Star Trek: Prodigy is back! With its mid-season return, “ Asylum ,” we find Hologram Janeway guiding the young crew of the U.S.S. Protostar , unaware that they are being pursued by Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway herself.

The flesh-and-blood Janeway does not know who is in command of the starship, what the Protostar ’s crew has endured, nor that they’re desperately seeking Starfleet’s aid upon learning their starship’s true purpose after The Diviner’s modifications. All she knows is that her close friend, Captain Chakotay , took the Protostar to the Delta Quadrant where he disappeared, and the ever-loyal Janeway is determined to find and bring him home. We haven’t seen Chakotay yet in the series outside of two appearances as a hologram, but we can only hope she finds him, and soon. Janeway and Chakotay’s relationship was key to both characters throughout all seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager . They’re even the second most written about pairing in the Star Trek franchise, if you trust our latest article on fanfiction stats. Their dynamic has captured the hearts and minds of Trek fans for years, proving to endure long after their series finale. As Vice Admiral Janeway searches for her friend and ally on Prodigy , we’ve curated a list of five episodes that fully encapsulate their relationship for fans to either revisit or watch for the first time.

Chakotay and Janeway stand next to each other, looking at a screen.

At the start of the U.S.S. Voyager ’s journey through the Delta Quadrant, both the Starfleet crew and the rescued Maquis fighters are tense. Janeway appoints Chakotay as her second-in-command to bridge hostilities, with both in agreement to ease tension, they need to integrate the crews more. Chakotay suggests B’Elanna Torres for the open Chief Engineer role, which Janeway balks at due to Torres’ temper. However, Chakotay is proven right when Torres’ genius ultimately saves the ship; Janeway listens to his recommendation and promotes her. It’s the start of a beautiful partnership in which Janeway and Chakotay balance each other out and find the best path forward in an uncertain quadrant.

Janeway and Chakotay, dressed in civilian clothes, look at each other.

What does it mean to spend most of your life with someone? After contracting a deadly virus, Janeway and Chakotay are forced to stay on the planet as it halts the disease’s process. Cut off from their crew – who are desperately searching for a cure – the pair ponder what it will mean to grow old together. A different sort of tension forms between them as they carry on with what they think will be the rest of their lives. Of course, they are ultimately rescued and cured, with their relationship returning to being solely professional. Still, it’s the episode that launched a thousand fanfics as the story devoted most of its time to driving home just how powerful their bond is.

Janeway looks at Chakotay as they stand on the bridge.

In one of Voyager ’s most famous two-parter, the crew is thrown into an alternate timeline that gives us one of Voyager ’s darkest tales. A temporal wave severely damages the ship, forcing the crew to face off against the vicious Krenim Imperium and a scientist trying to change his wife’s fate. In one scene, Janeway celebrates her birthday, receiving a pocket watch from Chakotay. While she’s clearly touched, she asks him to recycle the replicated gift to conserve resources. However, when Chakotay is later taken captive by their enemies, she wears the watch tied to her waist to honor him. This gesture speaks a thousand words and showcases just how much Chakotay and his friendship means to Janeway.

Chakotay and Janeway both drink coffee at dinner.

What if Janeway is trying to establish a Federation foothold in the Delta Quadrant? Similarly, what if Chakotay is only here to execute a Maquis scheme? The relationship between the first officer and captain is tested when Seven of Nine accidentally downloads too much information and begins to suspect the crew of various conspiracies. The episode includes two dinner scenes between Janeway and Chakotay, both highlighting their close friendship and how they handle conflict. Even though the two have a tense fight due to Seven’s conspiracies, they bridge the gap, reconcile, and move on once the situation has been resolved.

Janeway and Chakotay talk in a hallway.

Chakotay finds himself traveling through time in another temporal adventure. Due to a chronokinetic surge, the ship – and all aboard it – are stuck in different periods of time. Chakotay, who’s been injected with a serum that stops the shifts, must find a way to realign all aboard the ship under the correct time period. To do this, he must work with Janeway, who is stuck in a time before their friendship and who views him with distaste. Still, friendship transcends all time (travel), and Chakotay convinces her to help him; together, they save the day, bring the crew back into sync, and stop the temporal wave from impacting the ship. Later, the pair discuss the temporal prime directive after their experiences. For fans of the pairing, watching Janeway learn to trust Chakotay all over again is a treat, and it shows just how far her first officer has come. What’s your favorite Janeway and Chakotay moment? Are you hopeful that they’ll reunite on Star Trek: Prodigy ? Let us know on social!

'Star Trek: Prodigy' Season 2 Will Return This Winter

A specific release date hasn't been set for the hit animated children's series.

We've known for quite some time that Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 was already in production before the first season beamed down to Paramount+ , but today we've officially learned when Star Trek fans can expect to see the rag-tag crew of the Protostar will return—and it's not that far off. While the exact date hasn't been revealed, Star Trek: Prodigy will return this winter.

The two-part first season of Prodigy , saw Dal ( Brett Gray ) bring together a motley team of young aliens who found themselves thrust into a conflict between Starfleet and The Diviner ( John Noble ), which has only just reached a fever pitch as Admiral Janeway ( Kate Mulgrew ) sets off to locate a missing Captain Chakotay ( Robert Beltran ). In addition to Dal, the young crew is comprised of Gwyn ( Elle Purnell ), Rok-Tahk ( Rylee Alazraqui ), Jankom Pog ( Jason Mantazoukas ), Zero ( Angus Imrie ), and Murf ( Dee Bradley Baker )—though the Season 2 finale saw Gwyn choosing to return to her homeworld to help her people from falling into civil war.

The first season marked Mulgrew's return as Star Trek: Voyager 's Captain Janeway, which she also played two-fold as the hologram Janeway aboard the Protostar . The back-half of the season also introduced Jameela Jamil, as Ensign Asencia , who was far more than met the eye. While the series is aimed at children, with the inclusion of Janeway and Chakotay, Star Trek: Prodigy drew in a loyal audience from Star Trek: Voyager fans, who were eager to see their favorite characters back on screen.

Star Trek: Prodigy is co-showrun by Kevin and Dan Hageman , with the duo executive producing alongside Alex Kurtzman , Heather Kadin , Aaron Baiers , Rod Roddenberry , and Trevor Roth . Ben Hibon also executive produces, as well as directing and serving as a creative lead on the series. Aaron Waltke and Patrick Krebs also serve as co-executive producers on the second season.

The Future of Star Trek

In addition to the news that Star Trek: Prodigy would be returning later this year, Paramount revealed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a third season. Season 2 of the hit series also snagged a release date today, with the Star Trek: Discovery spin-off setting aim at June 15th for its premiere. While Star Trek: Discovery is coming to a close with Season 5 , the universe it launched lives on in Strange New Worlds . News also arrived today that Star Trek: Lower Decks — which will feature an epic crossover with Strange New Worlds —has similarly been renewed for another season (it's fifth). While there's still no news about the future of Star Trek: Picard once its third and final season ends later this month, fans and the creatives involved have recently teased their interest in continuing the story in a spin-off . Though, there's no word yet on whether or not Paramount+ is on board with the plan too.

While an exact release date has not yet been set, Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 will arrive this winter.

8 Alpha Quadrant Things Star Trek: Voyager Found In Delta Quadrant

  • Star Trek: Voyager finds familiar things from the Alpha Quadrant in the Delta Quadrant, sparking important questions and connections.
  • Encounter with Ferengi negotiators leads Voyager crew to stop their interference in a pre-warp civilization for profits.
  • Janeway and crew discover humans abducted by aliens in the 1930s living in the Delta Quadrant, including Amelia Earhart.

For a show with the conceit of being so far from home, Star Trek: Voyager found a surprising number of things in the Delta Quadrant that originated in the Alpha Quadrant, including several from Earth itself. The USS Voyager, commanded by Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), and Commander Chakotay's (Robert Beltran) Maquis raider Val Jean were both brought to the Delta Quadrant in 2371 by the Caretaker (Basil Langton). After Janeway destroyed the Caretaker's array to save the Ocampa , Voyager and the Val Jean were left without a ticket back to the Alpha Quadrant, and banded together to make the long journey.

Finding something familiar in an otherwise totally alien corner of the galaxy brought a sense of familiarity to the USS Voyager crew and viewers at home alike, but the presence of something from the Alpha Quadrant in the Delta Quadrant inevitably raised important questions , like how familiar people and objects traveled 70,000 light years from home in the first place, and whether the find could lead Captain Kathryn Janeway towards a quicker path home to Earth.

Star Trek: Voyagers 20 Best Episodes Ranked

A pair of ferengi negotiators, arridor and kol, star trek: voyager season 3, episode 5 "false profits".

The USS Voyager encounters a pair of Ferengi negotiators, Arridor (Dan Shor) and Kol (Leslie Jordan), who claim to be the prophesied Great Sages of the Takarians, a society with Bronze Age level technology. The Ferengi have no Prime Directive to deter them from interfering with the Takarians' development , so they're performing "miracles" with a standard replicator to reap the monetary benefits of the Takarians' worship. Voyager's crew know the Ferengi reputation well enough to know they're no Sages, so they must figure out how to put a stop to Arridor and Kol's grift.

"False Profits" serves as a Star Trek sequel episode to Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3, episode 8 "The Price", as Voyager catches up with Arridor and Kol (formerly played by J. R. Quinonez) seven years after their Delta Quadrant arrival. The Ferengi took a test flight through the supposedly stable wormhole near Barzan II, which was supposed to emerge in the Gamma Quadrant, but instead stranded the Ferengi in the Delta Quadrant, where they made the best of their situation as only Ferengi can.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3, Episode 23 "Distant Origin"

"Distant Origin" opens on Forra Gegen (Henry Woronicz), a scientist who discovers that his people, the Voth, share certain genetic similarities with the humans aboard the USS Voyager. While this confirms Gegen's theory that the Voth are the descendants of a species brought to their homeworld millions of years ago , religious leader Minister Odala (Concetta Tomei) refuses to accept the truth. Even with Commander Chakotay present as a living specimen of humanity, Odala pushes Gegen to recant, because Gegen's theory goes against the Voth Doctrine that keeps Odala in power.

After meeting Gegen's assistant, Tova Veer (Christopher Liam Moore), Janeway and the Doctor use the holodeck as a research guide to extrapolate how hadrosaurs might look in the 24th century if they'd been able to evolve into a humanoid form with comparable intelligence. The result resembles Veer, so Janeway and the Doctor conclude, like Gegen, that the Voth evolved from hadrosaurs into a highly advanced species on Earth , then fled to the Delta Quadrant in spacefaring vessels instead of being wiped out with the other dinosaurs.

The Friendship One Probe

Star trek: voyager season 7, episode 21 "friendship one".

By Star Trek: Voyager season 7 , the USS Voyager is in regular contact with Starfleet Command, and Starfleet gives Voyager a mission to retrieve a 21st-century Earth probe, Friendship One . The probe proves difficult to find, but once discovered on an alien planet suffering devastating climate collapse, the implications of Friendship One's launch become clear. Besides the irreversible damage to the planet's climate, the inhabitants are all suffering from radiation sickness, and bear understandable hostility towards Earth, because the aliens believe humans orchestrated their destruction with the Friendship One probe.

The United Earth Space Probe Agency was one of the early names for the organization the USS Enterprise belongs to in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode, "Charlie X".

Friendship One was launched in 2067 by the United Earth Space Probe Agency with the intention of making friends with whomever found it, as the name implies. Although Friendship One, the 400-year-old Earth probe, traveled for centuries carrying messages of peace, musical recordings, and ways to translate languages, the people who discovered Friendship One in the Delta Quadrant took a greater interest in the antimatter it used to travel across space. Without the proper knowledge of its use, antimatter proved devastating to the planet and its people, resulting in death and disease for generations.

Dreadnought, a Cardassian Missile

Star trek: voyager season 2, episode 17 "dreadnought".

The USS Voyager discovers a dangerously powerful, self-guided Cardassian missile in the Delta Quadrant, which Lt. B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) recognizes as one nicknamed "Dreadnought" . When B'Elanna was with the Maquis, Torres had actually reprogrammed the missile herself, with the intention of turning the Cardassians' own weapon against them. Without a Cardassian target in sight, the artificially intelligent Cardassian Dreadnought targets a heavily-populated Class-M planet , Rakosa V. B'Elanna determines she must be the one to keep Dreadnought from hurting anyone else, and boards the missile to convince it to stand down.

While no concrete reason is given for exactly how the Dreadnought wound up in the Delta Quadrant, its last known location in the Alpha Quadrant was the Badlands, the same rough patch of space where Voyager and the Val Jean, Chakotay's Maquis raider, fatefully met. Because of this, Torres theorizes that Dreadnought arrived in the Delta Quadrant the same way that Voyager and the Val Jean did , courtesy of the Caretaker.

Star Trek: Voyagers BElanna Is More Klingon Than TNGs Worf Ever Was

A klingon d-7 class cruiser, complete with klingons, star trek: voyager, season 7, episode 14 "prophecy".

The USS Voyager certainly never expected to find a Klingon ship in the Delta Quadrant, but more surprising is the fact that the crew of the Klingon D-7 Class Cruiser believes their savior, the prophesied kuvah'magh, is aboard Voyager . Janeway assures the Klingon captain, Kohlar (Wren T. Brown), that the Federation and Klingon Empire have been allies for the past 80 years, and offers Voyager's own half-Klingon, Lt. B'Elanna Torres, as proof their societies are working together now. The kuvah'magh is Torres' unborn daughter, who does save the Klingons, but not the way they expected.

Centuries ago, Kohlar's great-grandfather set off on a quest to find the kuvah'magh, and the Klingon D-7 Cruiser became a generation ship that is now crewed by the descendants of its original crew . The quest begun by Kohlar's great-grandfather brought Kohlar and his crew to the Delta Quadrant after four generations of searching. Whether B'Elanna's child is actually the kuvah'magh or not, Kohlar desperately wants the baby to be their savior, so that his people may finally rest.

Amelia Earhart

Star trek: voyager season 2, episode 1 "the 37s".

The discovery of a 1936 Ford truck, seemingly disconnected from any parent vehicle, leads the USS Voyager to a nearby Class-L planet, where they find eight humans who have been in cryo-stasis since they were abducted by aliens in the 1930s. Among them are one of Janeway's personal heroes, legendary American aviator Amelia Earhart (Sharon Lawrence) , who disappeared without a trace while attempting to fly around the world, and Earhart's navigator, Fred Noonan (David Graf). Earhart and the other preserved humans are known by the planet's inhabitants as "The 37s", and revered as sacred.

Originally thought to be aliens, the natives of the unnamed planet are the descendants of humans. A species called the Briori abducted the natives' ancestors, along with Earhart and the other 37s, from Earth centuries earlier , and took them to the Delta Quadrant. Once held as slaves, the humans who weren't in stasis revolted to free themselves from the Briori, and developed a thriving, Earth-like civilization in the Delta Quadrant. Voyager's crew consider staying with the humans in their little slice of home, while Janeway also offers a ride back to Earth to anyone who wants it, including Amelia Earhart.

The USS Equinox

Star trek: voyager season 5, episode 26 & season 6, episode 1 "equinox".

The crew of the USS Voyager believe they're the only Starfleet vessel in the Delta Quadrant until they find the USS Equinox, five years into their journey home. Captain Rudolph Ransom (John Savage) and the Equinox crew have had a harder time in the Delta Quadrant than Voyager, with more damage, fewer starting resources, and fewer opportunities to make friends along the way. Ransom's survival tactics include sacrificing innocent nucleogenic life forms for a more efficient form of fuel, which Janeway finds hard to stomach, and decides that Ransom needs to be held accountable for defying Federation ideals, regardless of how badly the Equinox is damaged.

Although Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) suggests that the Equinox might be in the Delta Quadrant on a rescue mission to find Voyager, the USS Equinox's specs don't fit the profile of a starship that would be assigned to a long-range mission. The explanation of how the Equinox arrived in the Delta Quadrant in the first place seems fairly simple, because Captain Ransom tells Janeway that the Equinox was also abducted by the Caretaker , just like Voyager, but the Equinox has only been in the Delta Quadrant for 2 years, and Janeway destroyed the Caretaker's array 5 years earlier.

Seven of Nine

Debuts in star trek: voyager season 4, episode 1 "scorpion, part 2".

When Captain Kathryn Janeway allies with the Borg in order to secure safe passage across Borg space, Janeway refuses the cursory assimilation that the Borg want to use to communicate with Janeway and Voyager's crew, and instead requests a speaker for the Borg, citing the existence of Locutus (Patrick Stewart) as precedent. Seven of Nine , Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01, is selected as the Borg drone to act as liaison between the Collective and Voyager, likely because Seven of Nine had once been a member of Species 5168, like most of Voyager's crew -- in other words, human.

Voyager season 5, episodes 15 & 16, "Dark Frontier" provides even more detail of the Hansens' fateful journey.

After Seven's link with the Collective is severed, more information about Seven's human origin comes to light. In Voyager season 4, episode 6 "The Raven", when Voyager nears the Hansens' ship, the USS Raven, memories of Seven's early life surface, revealing that Seven had been six-year-old human Annika Hansen , the daughter of Magnus Hansen (Kirk Baily) and Erin Hansen (Laura Stepp), Federation scientists who were studying the Borg when they were assimilated. Voyager season 5, episodes 15 & 16, "Dark Frontier" provides even more detail of the Hansens' fateful journey, showing the Raven arriving in the Delta Quadrant by following a Borg Cube through a transwarp conduit.

10 Ways USS Voyager Changed In Star Treks Delta Quadrant

Star Trek: Voyager links back to the greater Star Trek universe with people and starships from the Alpha Quadrant. Connections to the familiar were especially important early on, because Voyager 's place in the Star Trek franchise was established and aided by the legitimacy these finds offered. Later, when the USS Voyager used the Hirogen communications array to communicate with Starfleet Command, links back to the Alpha Quadrant were plentiful again, not only to prove that the USS Voyager was closer to home, but to help Star Trek: Voyager maintain connections to Star Trek and carry the franchise in its final years.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Has Dropped A Crucial Plotline That Needs To Return In Season 21

Young sheldon officially fixes its oldest the big bang theory plot hole before it ends, the simpsons season 35 brought back a tired show trend & i'm over it.

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Episode 16 - "Preludes" The answer to what happened to Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) in Star Trek: Prodigy has finally been revealed, and it sets up the diabolical endgame the Diviner (John Noble) and Asencia (Jameela Jamil) intend for Starfleet. Star Trek: Prodigy episode 16 contained a huge download of backstory and information as Ascencia and the Diviner fully explained Chakotay and the Protostar's arrival on Solum. Captain Chakotay and the USS Protostar accidentally traveled through a temporal anomaly in the Delta Quadrant, and they ended up on Solum about 50 years in the future.

Chakotay launched the Protostar in 2383, which landed him and his starship in the 25th century, about 30 years after the events o f Star Trek: Picard . Chakotay found Solum devastated by decades of civil war after Starfleet made First Contact with Solum in the late 24th century. But the Protostar's arrival immediately set forth the Vau'Nakat's plan to get revenge on Starfleet, which they blamed for the ruin of their civilization. The Vau'Nakat immediately captured Chakotay and his crew, and they installed their Starfleet-destroying doomsday weapon, the Living Construct, on the Protostar. But Chakotay was able to send the Protostar back in time to the mid-2260s, temporarily keeping it safe from the Vau'Nakat, who also went back in time to find the Protostar before Star Trek: Prodigy begins.

Chakotay Remains A Prisoner In The 25th Century

Captain Chakotay remains a prisoner on Solum, and complicating matters is he's currently fifty years in the future from Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), who is desperately searching for him. It's not clear if all of Chakotay's Protostar crew are also prisoner or if any were killed when the Vau'Nakat's Drednoks took over the Protostar. But now there's a chance Chakotay can be rescued, although at this point in Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, Janeway hasn't made contact with the Protostar's teenage crew yet, much less realized Chakotay is trapped in the future .

The Diviner And Asencia Time Traveled To Find The Protostar

The Vau'Nakat's desperate response to Chakotay sending the Protostar back in time was to send 100 of their own blindly through the temporal anomaly to find the incredibly fast Starfleet ship. Each Vau'Nakat who went on this one-way, suicide mission, including the Diviner and Asencia, who is also known as the Vindicator, took a Drednok with them. The Diviner arrived in the Delta Quadrant at roughly the same time the Protostar did, but he didn't know it, and it took another 17 years until Dal R'El (Brett Gray) found the Protostar on Tars Lamora. Asencia arrived in 2381 and infiltrated Starfleet disguised as a Trill Ensign , joining Janeway's mission to find the Protostar.

Chakotay's Original Mission Was To Fix Voyager's Mess

In an interview with TrekCore , Star Trek: Prodigy co-executive producer Aaron Waltke revealed that Captain Chakotay's original mission aboard the USS Protostar was to return to the Delta Quadrant and "basically clean up the roughshod voyage that was like a bowling ball in a China shop Voyager kind of shot through." Captain Janeway and her starship's 7-year voyage home to Earth did cause massive ripple effects throughout the Delta Quadrant, and the USS Voyager's crew made as many enemies as allies. Waltke also notes that Vice Admiral Janeway "wasn’t thrilled to have her first officer suddenly have to go off by himself," but Chakotay wanted to take responsibility for Voyager's actions during those seven years.

Star Trek: Prodigy' s fundamental ties to Star Trek: Voyager are compelling and deepen the series, which is honoring Star Trek canon on the whole, including many welcome nods to Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: The Original Series. With only 4 episodes left in Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, it remains to be seen if Admiral Janeway will learn the truth of where (and when) Chakotay really is. Of course, complicating matters further is the Diviner knocking Janeway out on the Dauntless, which creates another obstacle in between the Admiral finding Captain Chakotay.

This has been a busy week for Michelle Yeoh. The Star Trek: Discovery (and upcoming Section 31 streaming movie) star is following up her new Presidential Medal of Freedom with news she will be starring in the new Blade Runner TV series. She also turned heads on the Met Gala red carpet with her unique gown.

The Hollywood trades are reporting that Amazon has tapped Michelle Yeoh as one of the leads for their upcoming Blade Runner 2099 limited series. The new show follows the events of the 2017 film Blade Runner 2049 , the sequel to the 1982 classic film Blade Runner based on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

In the dystopian future depicted in Blade Runner humanity has developed androids named “replicants” as workers and when one goes rogue they are tracked down by bounty hunters called “blade runners.” According to Variety , in Blade Runner 2099 Yeoh will play a character named Olwen, “described as a replicant near the end of her life.”

Blade Runner 2099 is set to start filming in Prague in June. In March Yeoh wrapped up filming on the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31  streaming movie where she returns to the role of Emperor Georgiou from Discovery . Paramount+ has yet to set a release date for Section 31 .

Yeoh was also getting noticed on Monday when the Oscar-winning actress walked the red carpet in a dress made of aluminum a the Met Gala in New York, which had a theme this year of “Garden of Time.”

Yeoh’s gown was designed by the Spanish luxury fashion house Balenciaga. You can see how they put it together in the video below.

And from even more Michelle, today Paramount+ released this video tribute to her time on Star Trek: Discovery .

‘Section 31’ Movie Director Says It’s A “Different” Star Trek + New Character Details Revealed

I just knew that first image of the Section 31 movie was secretly from Blade Runner!

A Blade Runner series that follows the 2049 instalment sounds intriguing and I’m all in when it comes to Michelle Yeoh. IMO to have someone of her acting calibre in the Star Trek family is one of the highlights of so called nu-Trek.

Canny choice of brand ambassador to rehabilitate Balenciaga.

-Michelle Yeoh is awesome -so paramount writes her off of disco to spin her off -then covid happens then paramount has a meltdown and we wait -she wins an oscar as we wait -then finally they do a tv movie because she’s too busy and can’t possibly do a scifi series for a streaming service -now she’s doing a scifi series with a streaming service the decisions out of paramount for 2 years have been flat out weird

Funny how she was apparently too busy to do the Section 31 show she signed to do way back in 2019 by being in a dozen other shows lol.

Anyway this sounds great. I really liked the Blade Runner sequel. I only seen it once in n the theater but I was hoping for another movie. But since that basically bombed this is a great alternative.

Yeah, but asides from management talking about a S31 show, it’s not like there were a dozen scripts at the ready for season one to get started. How many times has Paramount announced the Trek IV movie was all queued up and ready to go……except it wasn’t? I wish her the best…

Actually there was a lot of progress. They had already finished the pilot and the first few scripts literally back in 2019.

Taken from a previous article:

“We are very excited about the Section 31 show and Michelle Yeoh is excited to do it. She is in the current season of Discovery so she’s working on that right now but we have scripts getting written, and Alex has a writer’s room. We love what we’ve heard so far. It’s yet another tonality of Trek. As Alex has mapped it all out, each show has its own unique sort of voice and vision.”

S31 was literally being made the same time Picard was. They already had showrunners and scripts.

I think just like the movies themselves Paramount got cold feet and backed off because they clearly wasn’t that confident in it. Understandable. Of course at least they finally did something with the idea unlike the next movie. 🙄

Lack of confidence in the scripts perhaps? Also probably not enough money to go around now to make good on it, especially if her fee went up.

I saw BR2049 at the cinema on a Friday night opening wkend 2017, not that many in theatre, remember my mind blown during opening titles, it just hitting me, I was actually watching Blade Runner 2 (starring Harrison Ford). It’d already been mind blowing watching Force Awakens in cinema, but this was just beyond crazy (a shame it wasn’t directed by Scott, probably would’ve been a tighter film, although DV did very well. In fact I liked it so much I put off watching the bluray for a few years bc i didn’t want to dilute that one time cinema experience).

Pity this series isn’t a 3rd film (with Yeoh), stream series can’t really compare to a proper film imo (Picard s3 aside)

Yeah I remember sitting in the theater Saturday night opening weekend with I think 50 other people lol.

I was actually a bit surprised how low the turnout was but I guess I shouldn’t be since the first movie was always more of a cult thing but still loved it. But I’m glad they still tried to go bigger with it.

And yeah would’ve loved another movie but the writing was on the wall.

BTW I know they made an animated series for it too. Have you ever seen it? I’m thinking of watching it but I want to watch the movies again first.

It’s nice they haven’t abandoned the franchise even though it’s never been popular for the masses.

No not seen any of the animated series, think there was some anime stuff on the blu extras when I finally got around to looking at it

Think BR2 probably ended up making similar to BR1 when adjusted

If you haven’t seen it, SLICE OF LIFE is a short that takes place in the BLADE RUNNER universe, with some amazing visuals produced entirely with miniatures (no cgi). You can check it out on YouTube.

Yeoh and Ford would be a lovely combo. Spielberg had initially talked to her about being in Indiana Jones 4, around when she was doing Memoirs of a Geisha. Wasn’t too serious as no iteration of the script really had a part for an Asian actress, but it would have been fun.

Seems like another recycle stuff from the 80s and expect us all not to notice kind of thing again.

Since I thought that, despite some virtues, BLADE RUNNER 2049 was an almost entirely unnecessary sequel to Ridley Scott’s masterpiece, I’m finding this announcement more intriguing than I probably should.
