LOCATION: Missouri Division of Tourism

Jefferson City, MO

OVERNIGHT TRAVEL : Approximately 50 nights per year (to include international travel)

ANNUAL SALARY: $40,000 - $55,000 – commensurate with experience

The Missouri Division of Tourism (MDT) is the administrative arm of the Missouri Tourism Commission, and it advocates for the sound development of the travel and tourism industry in Missouri. MDT’s mission is to promote Missouri as a top-of-mind travel destination and to boost state revenue through increased visitor spending.

This position will work within MDT, marketing Missouri to domestic and international tour operators, receptive tour operators, wholesalers, and travel agents.

What you will do:

  • For the Domestic group market, attend shows such as the National Tour Association, American Bus Association, STS Domestic Showcase and others
  • For the International market, attend trade shows to include but not limited to World Travel Market, Brand USA Week, U.S. Travel Association’s IPW, Travel South International Showcase, Ontario Motor Coach Association, Receptive Tour Operator Summit, International Inbound Travel Association Summit, etc.
  • Register, conduct appropriate research to schedule, and take appointments with tour operators and receptive tour operators, and execute follow up by providing requested information
  • Schedule booth presence to include décor and signage, ship materials to and from show, arrange partnerships with tourism industry suppliers
  • Create and distribute thematic and geographic itineraries both proactively and upon request by travel trade
  • Handle all arrangements for FAM participants to include, but not limited to, hotel reservations, airline reservations, travel reimbursements for items such as mileage and meals, etc.
  • Respond to requests for information on the destination to include assisting tour operators and prospective meeting planners with information about the destination and distributing leads to destinations
  • Create, update or order sales collateral material to include profile sheets
  • Work with advertising agency-of-record to design and place advertising in travel trade media outlets
  • Prepare and deliver educational presentations through live appearances, webinars and other means on Missouri assets that are of interest to travel trade professionals
  • Maintain database of contacts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree AND 3-5 years of relevant experience in international travel trade, marketing activities, etc. (substitutions may be allowed)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Foreign language skills
  • Excellent communication and interaction skills
  • Strong relationships and experience working with the travel trade industry
  • Knowledge of the tourism industry and Missouri’s tourism assets

Competencies:

  • Ability to follow all rules on sharing contact information, for example the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) that governs countries that are a part of the European Union
