Complete schedule of India's tour of Australia 2014/15

Defending champions India will get an early feel of the Australian conditions ahead of next year’s ODI World Cup after agreeing to play a Test series against the hosts and a triangular one-day series, also featuring England, between December 4 and February 1.

Cricket Australia announced its schedule ahead of the World Cup which it would jointly host with New Zealand.

The fixtures include four Test matches between India and Australia starting December 4 in Brisbane. The series’ other games will be played in Adelaide (December 12 to 16), Melbourne (December 26 to 30) and Sydney (January 3 to 7).

After a break, the tri-series will start on January 16, the finale of which will take place on February 1 in Perth.

“The Fans in Brisbane will see the India Test team for the first time since 2003-04,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

The World Cup will roll out from February 14 and conclude on March 29.

“The next 12 months will have something for everyone. It contains some refinements from last season that benefits both players and fans. Never before have we had so much high quality cricket to offer around Australia, whether it’s international or domestic, men’s or women’s, or played with a red or white ball,” Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said.

“The 2014-15 schedule looks very different to previous summers due in large part to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 that we are co-hosting with New Zealand for the first time in 23 years.” .

“With a Test series against India, ODIs against the top teams in world cricket, the ICC Cricket World Cup and another strong domestic calendar, this year promises to be even bigger,” Sutherland added.

December 12-16: 2nd Test Australia v India - Adelaide

December 26-30: 3rd Test Australia v India - Melbourne

January 3-7: 4th Test Australia v India - Sydney

India to play pink-ball warm-up match ahead of day-night Adelaide test in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25

India will tour Australia for five-test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 later this year.

In November this year, the Indian cricket team will tour Australia for a five-match test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.

This time the series will be of five test matches compared to four tests as usual. It will kick off on November 22 in Perth and the last test of the series is scheduled to start on January 3 in Sydney.

India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have held it since 2017, having won four consecutive test series against Australia.

India won the test series on their last two trips to Australia and are the only Asian team to ever win a test series Down Under.

India scheduled for a two-day warm-up game with pink ball ahead of day-night test in Adelaide

The second test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, which will be played in Adelaide, is a pink-ball test and it will start on December 6. Between the scheduled end of the first test and the start of the second test, there is a 10-day gap.

During this period, Team India will play a two-day warm-up fixture in the day-night timings against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra with pink ball. This warm-up match will take place on November 30 and December 1 at Manuka Oval.

On their last tour of Australia, in 2020/21, India lost the day-night test in Adelaide, where India were bowled out for their lowest score in test cricket – 36/9 in the second innings. However, the side bounced back inspirationally to clinch the series 2-1.

So far, India have played four day-night test matches, winning three and losing one.

Ahead of the first test in Perth, India will play an intra-squad warm-up game at the WACA from November 15 to 18.

Left-arm speedster spencer johnson had a forgettable outing for oval invincibles in the men's hundred 2024 season as he managed to pick up only two wickets across six matches..

“(Johnson) will return home for further assessment rehabilitation before the Australian summer,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Johnson kicked off the fourth season of the men's Hundred with a lot of promise. He bagged a wicket against Welsh Fire in the season opener while conceding 21 runs but his spell against Northern Superchargers was a treat to watch for the fans.

The left-arm quick delivered 13 dots out of the 20 balls he bowled against Northern Superchargers and gave away just 10 runs. His spell also saw him bag the wicket of Graham Clark.

The upcoming tour of the United Kingdom was going to be an excellent opportunity for the Adelaide-born to display his fast bowling prowess and make a case for himself as a potential replacement for the ageing Mitchell Starc. Notably, Starc has been rested for the T20I series against Scotland and England and will only be seen donning the Australia jersey during the ODI series against the Three Lions.

Speedster Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of Australia's tour to Scotland and England after he sustained a side strain. The Australian bowler suffered the injury while representing The Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. All-rounder Sean Abbott, who was already named in Australia's ODI squad for the tour of Scotland and England, will replace Johnson in the T20 touring party. Johnson, who has played five T20Is since his international debut last year, is expected to miss the remainder of The Hundred. The 28-year-old managed to bowl just five deliveries during last week's win over the London Spirit at the Oval.

Sean Abbott replaces Spencer Johnson

After turning heads in the Big Bash and The Hundred, the Australian was snapped up by the Gujarat Titans during last year's IPL auction.

Last month, Cricket Australia announced that bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, alongside all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, were rested for the T20I leg of the United Kingdom tour, which will kickstart from September 4.

While Starc has been given a break from the shortest format of the game against Scotland and England, he will be available for the ODIs. Pat Cummins, on the other hand, will not be participating in the entire tour. Josh Hazlewood has been included in both the T20I and ODI squads.

Sean Abbott, who has played 15 T20Is for Australia, has been somewhat unfortunate not to have represented his country more often in the format.

Abbott boasts of an impressive record in the Big Bash League, with a staggering 165 wickets to his name, making him the leading wicket-taker in the tournament's history. Additionally, he has showcased his skills in 'The Hundred', claiming nine wickets in seven appearances for Birmingham Phoenix

India will tour Australia later this year for five Tests with an eye on a historic hat-trick of series victories.

The Ashes remains Test cricket’s biggest rivalry – there’s rich history, a bit of bad blood, epic clashes, memorable individual performances, countless memories and more. For both the Australian and the English players winning an Ashes series remains the pinnacle of red-ball cricket.

However, there’s another rivalry that’s inching closer to matching the intensity and quality of Ashes, feels the legendary Ricky Ponting who also claims it has already dethroned South Africa as Australia’s second most fiercest competitors in the Test arena.

The Indian cricket team has been bossing over Australia when playing at home  for some time now but in recent years, has also proven they are equally good when playing in their rival’s territory.

The Indian team has returned victorious from their last two Test tours of Australia and will be in the country again later this year for a five-match rubber.

Ponting says India have been presenting Australia with a stern challenge and thinks that the current set of players also share his views.

“I think I was a part of it when that (IND-AUS rivalry) really started to grow, when the rivalry really started to grow was it’s right at the back end of my career,” Ponting told ICC.

“And that’s when I think India seemingly really started to stand up to the fight and say, ‘OK you’re playing against India now, this is a different Indian team, we’ve got different leaders and different players and we’re going to do it whatever we can to beat you guys – whether it’s in India or in Australia’,” he added.

Ponting, one of the greatest batters to have played the game, is excited for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.

“I’ve said for the last couple of years now, Australia have always had a fierce rivalry with England, obviously, and a very strong rivalry with South Africa. But I think India is now sitting right on the back of what an Ashes clash is like and probably overtaken the rivalry with South Africa. So I mean, that’s probably enough said. The fact that someone like me is looking at it in that way. I’m sure the players look at it in the same way as well and I’m really excited for the summer,” Ponting said.

“There’ll be a lot of Indian broadcasters out there. There’ll be a lot of Indian fans out here. India will bring a really strong team here. And we know Australia are World Test Champions at the moment so it should be a mouth-watering summer again,” he added.

No Jasprit Bumrah In India vs Bangladesh Test Series? Report Claims Big Reason

The two-test series against bangladesh will start a rigorous period of successive test matches for the indian cricket team before their big tour of australia..

After a lengthy break post the Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team will again assemble next month for the Bangladesh Test series. It is rare for Indian cricketers to get such a long break. But after months of hectic cricket action, the break will be more than welcome for the seniors. The two-Test series against Bangladesh will start a rigorous period of successive Test matches for the Indian cricket team before their big Tour of Australia. 

However, according to a report in Indian Express , India's premier fast bowler Jasprit may not be included in the side that will face Bangladesh. The reason being given is the hectic schedule that the Indian team has going ahead. Also, the Bangladesh series is likely to be dominated by  spin. Add to it the fact that Mohammed Shami might make a comeback in this series. So, the BCCI selectors may want to give Jasprit Bumrah some extra rest. 

Bumrah has often taken breaks in near past due to injury. He even underwent a surgery in March 2023 for a stress fracture at the back after being out of action since September 2022. 

Meanwhile, with some of the India regulars, except pacer Jasprit Bumrah and senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin , likely to appear in the first round of the Duleep Trophy, the BCCI has decided to shift one of the opening matches from Anantapur to Bengaluru. Senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also might get an exemption, and the choice of appearing in the tournament is entirely on them.

The Duleep Trophy was earlier scheduled to kick-off with two sets of first round matches at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh from September 5, but now one of those games has been shifted to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here to reduce the logistical inconveniences.

Anantapur is approximately 230 kms away from Bengaluru and the city is not connected via flight.

"The decision has been made to accommodate some of the top players, so that they get a feel of the red-ball cricket ahead of the (Test) series against Bangladesh," a source close to the development told PTI.

India are slated to play two Test matches against Bangladesh – from September 19 at Chennai and from September 27 at Kanpur.

While it is up to Rohit and Kohli to play in the event, some other prominent players such as Ravindra Jadeja , Axar Patel , KL Rahul , Shubman Gill , Shreyas Iyer Kuldeep Yadav etc are expected to be available for this tournament fully or partially.
