Starting the journey, shuttle bus (cost extra) will pick up from your hotel in Hanoi.

Reach the private guest lounge by Genesis Cruises. Gen team will welcome you at lounge and register for your trip.

You will embark Genesis Regal Cruise in the warmly greeting of the team who will accompany you guys in the trip. A welcome speech will be given to you be our Cruise Manager, and itinerary briefing instantly. After that, you will enjoy set menu lunch with delicious local seafoods. Regal Cruise slowly glides between the numerous small islands and the sea-green color of the bay.

Reaching Dark- Light area of 3 underwater caves. Visitors will sit on the sampan boat that rowed by the local people to soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Then, you can swim on the sea or dip in the swimming pool on the boat, or book the massage to relax.

Hello, we are travelling with a 11 month baby. How is the day trips during the second day? Is the speedboat transfer suitable for the baby or could other transfers be possible to the boat?

Dear Anna, Please be advised that it will be a bit inconvenient for your baby during the activities on the 2nd day. But you will only leave the main boat for about 4 hours from 12.45 to 4.45pm so if you are well prepared for your kid, it will still be okay. Dear Terence, You can still use the bus Hanoi to Halong and Halong to Hanoi then we will arrange a connecting car to pick you up on the way to go directly to Hanoi airport. If you can bring your luggage to the boat and store it in your cabin. Please be advised the junior suite and senior suite are only different from the location. Dear Anna, The biking activity is on the second day when you will be transferred to a day boat until the afternoon. You can skip biking and relax on the day boat until they move to the next activity. In case you want to stay on Genesis Cruise, it is alright but the ship will back to the harbor to drop off previous guests and welcome new guests, thus the itinerary and meals will be repeated.

As for the itinerary, you will start from Tuan Chau Port and cross a part of Halong Bay during transferring time from the port to the cruise but mainly explore Lan Ha Bay. If you have any specific requests, please let us know. We are always here to assist you!

If the weather is bad and there is any cancellation, will we have a money refund or will we be able to book the cruise on another date?? Dear Evangelia, In case of bad weather and the tour have to be cancelled, which is decided by the Management Board of Halong Bay, depend on the timing of the cancellation, following policies will be applied:

1/ Before departure from Hanoi to Halong Bay (none of the services has been used): 100% refund. => You can rebook the trip on any other date  2/ During the trip (some services have been used: transfer, lunch, day trip, hotel in Halong, etc.): used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded. 3/ The trip be cut down from 2 nights to 1 night, tourists will be charged a 2 days/1 night trip, plus other used services, the rest will be refunded.

For the two later options, you can pay for the services you used and book another trip if you wish to. For your anniversary, the cruise will decorate your room to celebrate it. I hope to hear from you soon and please let me know if you have any other inquiries.

You can consider Doris Cruise or Erina Cruise, which leaves later at around 12:15 - 12:30, however, you will need to leave the airport by 11:15am which I believe is quite a rush. Vegetarian food was good. We booked 1 night and a Junior Suite. The view was stunning and the room was very comfortable. The service was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond and was very hospitable. We wish we had booked 2 nights instead. Thank you very much!

The cruise had an attractive look and a great number of cabins, not too many and not too few. We were lucky when our boat was not full on that day and everyone was very friendly. The staff went out of their way to make us enjoy every moment. Thank you for the great service.

Such a nice experience in Halong! Genesis Cruise was spacious and well-furnished. The room was modern and had all the amenities for your comfort. All meals were included and the food was very tasty. We also booked a spa after dinner. It was pretty nice and better than squid fishing.

My family had great memories of the Genesis Luxury Cruise. Although we went on a cloudy day, the scenery was still stunning and the staff made our trip. • Customer make any booking and reservations in writing per e-mail. Genesis Cruise has the right to reject any verbal bookings. Genesis Cruise replies to any inquiry and booking within 24 (twenty-four) hours.
• Customer submit all required passenger details, number of passengers, full passenger names, check-in, and check-out dates, passport numbers, visa expiry dates, special requests (e.g. vegetarian meal, honeymooner) etc., to Genesis Cruise per standard form to the specified deadlines (07 day before the cruise sail).
• All passengers must embark with valid passports & Vietnam visas. Children whose traveling documents are attached to their parent’s passports must travel with their parent. Failure to comply might result in penalties imposed by the local authority which shall be borne.
• Customer send for Genesis Cruise exact pick-up point of passengers in Hanoi or Halong Bay. Genesis Cruise maintains the right a timely departure of its vessels.
• The payment will be based on the reservation sheet of the company and receipts issued by Genesis Cruise must process confirmation of the company. Customer are obliged to pay on time and in full to Genesis Cruise according to the payment regulations of Genesis Cruise proposed in each period and each case. Genesis Cruise has the right to cancel all the bookings of customer in case customer do not complete the regulations on booking and payment policies of Genesis Cruise.

08:30 approx: Travel from Hanoi to Halong Bay

- Starting the journey, Genesis Regal Cruise will pick you up in Hanoi at the scheduled time and place. 

- If you have a private car, we will pick you up at Genesis guest station number 19, Tuan Chau pier, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.  

09.30 - 11.30: On Road

- Follow the new highway 5B and Bach Dang bridge, relax, admire the countryside, rice fields on both sides of the road.

11.30 – 12.00: Welcome to Genesis Regal Cruise and Check-in

- Genesis staff will welcome guests at the lounge, rest and register for the trip. Guests will set foot on the Genesis Regal Cruise in the warm welcome of the crew - who will accompany and serve you. 

12:40: Enjoy Lunch at Tonkin restaurant

- Guests enjoy lunch at Tonkin restaurant with delicious dishes inspired by local seafood while watching the romantic beauty of Lan Ha Bay through the restaurant's windows. 

- Genesis Regal Cruise began to set sail for the voyage to discover Ha Long - Lan Ha Bay with unforgettable experiences in front of you.

14:10 – 15.10: Visit Cat Ba National Park

- After the cruise docked at Gia Luan, visitors will have the opportunity to visit Cat Ba National Park. After leaving the cruise, guests will be transported by the van along the asphalt road through the forest and the destination is a Karst Cave formed millions of years ago. 

- Besides, visitors can also meet animals on the world's rare red list, which is Cat Ba langur. Guests will be able to explore the surrounding area with many interesting stories and wonderful experiences on Cat Ba Island of Lan Ha Bay. 

15:10 – 16:00: Relaxing Time

- Return to the Genesis Regal Cruise, guests will continue to move to another hidden destination of Halong Bay. Guests can rest, enjoy the sundeck with a cocktail, or use massage services, ... 

16:00: Explore Dark & Bright Cave

- Visitors visit the Dark and Bright Cave area, which is the most beautiful kayaking area on the bay with a system of 3 underwater caves (through dynamic water). 

- In this activity, visitors will be sitting on bamboo boats rowed by locals to visit the caves. In addition, if desired, visitors can continue to kayak here by themselves. Time for guests to experience and explore the area here is about 1 hour. 

17:00: Swimming Time

- Guests are free to swim in the emerald green waters or enjoy the splendor of the bay at the sundeck after the Genesis Regal Cruises move to safe anchorage. This place was voted by CNN as one of the 20 most beautiful sunsets in Asia.

18:00: Sunset Party and Cooking Class

- In particular, please do not forget to join the "sunset party" on the beautiful open sundeck area of the cruise. Performed by talented bartenders to pulsating music and romantic sunsets. And don't miss the 'happy hours to get free drink' program. 

- After that, Regal's chef will guide you how to make one of the 50 most delicious dishes in the world voted by CNN, Vietnamese spring rolls. 

19:30: Enjoy Dinner at Tonkin restaurant

The host will welcome us to visit and interact with us to help guests understand the culture and history of the fishing village on Ha Long Bay. - Back to the Genesis Regal Cruise. Guests take a rest and check-out, free to enjoy the scenery of the Bay on the sundeck or the restaurant area.

11:45: Back to Tuan Chau Marina

- Transfer guests to the cruise and visit Ba Trai Dao beaches, then head straight to Viet Hai Village located in the valley of Cat Ba National Park.

10:00 - 12:00: Visiting Viet Hai Village

- After 30 minutes of fast surfing on the sea, visitors will come to Viet Hai village, an isolated village in the valley.

- Passengers can choose to cycle, ride a tram or motorbike to visit Viet Hai Village. Admire the beautiful scenery of rice fields, buffalo herds, and mountains here. Guests can have a chance to meet the local people and learn the culture and customs of the locals on Cat Ba Island. 

- Alternatively, guests can also take a walking tour to visit the school of the local children and explore the surrounding villages.

• Travelers cancel tickets for more than 1 week - 7 days: Lose 0% of the tour cost
• Travelers cancel tickets less than 1 week - 7 days: Lose 25% of the tour cost
• Travelers cancel tickets over 72 hours: Lose 50% of the tour cost   
• Travelers cancel tickets less than 48 hours: Lose 100% of the tour cost (no show)

Cancellation due to weather conditions: 

• In the days of bad weather (rainstorms, high winds, big waves, etc.), the Bay management board will stop granting overnight sleeping permits for all ships to ensure the safety of tourists. 
• In such a case, we will apply the following policies: 

- If the Bay management board informs you before you depart for the tour from Hanoi to Ha Long/Hai Phong (you have not used any of the tour's services): you will be refunded 100%. 

- If the management board of the Bay makes an announcement when you are in the tour schedule (you have used a number of services such as Hanoi - Ha Long/Hai Phong bus, lunch, day cruise, .. .vv), we will only charge for the services that you have used , the rest will be fully refunded. 

- If the 3 days 2 nights program is cut off due to weather conditions and change to 2 days 1 night is left, we only charge for the 2 days 1 night program with the services you used , unused services will be refunded accordingly. 

Children policy:

• Children under 5 years old:

 - Free of charge.

 - Share car seats and sleep in the same bed with relatives. Have a separate food (porridge, pho, etc. or eat with relatives). 

• Children from 5 to under 12 years old: 

- Charge 50% of the adult price. 

- Sitting in the same car seat and sharing a bed with an adult, 1/2 serving an adult meal. 

• All children who want to eat separately, have their own seat in the car, and sleep in their own bed will be charged 85% of the adult price. 
• Maximum of 2 children per room. 
• Children from 11 years old and above are counted as 1 adult (based on Birth Certificate, Passport...) 
• Check-in time is from 11:30-12:00. If you are traveling by yourself, please be at the pier no later than 11:15 am to check in before boarding. 
• Check-out time is from 10:00-10:30, depending on the schedule of each ship.
• Please send a photo of the passenger's ID card or birth certificate at least 5 days before the tour departure and bring these identification documents with you when checking in. 
• Each cruise has its own rules for child surcharges and weekend surcharges. Please refer to the child surcharge information in the room rate section. 
• Regulations on rescheduling due to COVID-19: When there is a COVID-19 epidemic, the Government of Vietnam or the locality managing the Cruise issues a Ban on sailing, you can postpone the date to a suitable time to continue your journey.
• Trip cancellations due to weather conditions will be indicated directly by the Bay Management Board. Please refer to Halong Cruise's delay/cancellation policy due to weather conditions. 

Frequently Asked Questions

The cruise serves 3 main meals: European breakfast, Asian-Vietnamese lunch & dinner. There is also a brunch buffet before guests disembark. Vegetarian and vegan menus are also available upon request.

Genesis Regal Cruise departs from Tuan Chau Port, passes through HaLong Bay and stops at famous attractions on Lan Ha Bay. 

Guests need to have an original ID card or passport for check-in. Besides, personal luggage, cash, camera, swimwear, glasses, sunscreen, sports shoes are also necessary items when boarding.

Guests are required to pay an additional fee for round trip transfers from Hanoi and kayaking. Massage services, onboard drinks and other personal expenses are also not included. 

The cruise has WIFI but the signal will be unstable when passing through some areas.

Top 10 Tips for a Perfect Halong Bay Cruise: What to Know Before You Go

Located on the Northeast coast of Vietnam, Halong Bay is the kind of place that leaves you in awe. Its breathtaking limestone karsts rising dramatically from emerald waters will have you feeling like you’ve been transported to another world as you float through its calm, narrow waterways. We had the pleasure of spending 3 days and 2 nights taking in the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage site on a 5-star Luxury Cruise, and while it was an incredible experience, there were definitely some things we wish we had known before making the trip. For that reason, we’ve put together a list of the top 10 things to know before you set sail on your Halong Bay cruise!

1. Choose the Right Cruise for You

Halong Bay offers a variety of cruise options, from budget-friendly day trips to luxurious multi-day excursions and everything in between. The most popular options are the budget-friendly day trips and the 2-day, 1-night cruises, but we personally recommend spending the extra time (and money) to go on a 3-day, 2-night cruise. With this option, you not only get the luxury of spending an extra night on the boat, you also get to join a day cruise and explore further into the bay for a more immersive experience. That said, consider what kind of experience you want—whether it’s a quick tour or an immersive journey with activities like kayaking, cave exploring, and Tai Chi at sunrise, the beauty of Halong Bay is sure to leave you speechless.

Note:  When you book a cruise through a booking site like GetYourGuide  or Viator , unless the listing specifically states the name of the cruise company/boat, there is no way to know what boat you are booking and you won’t be made aware of what boat you are booked on until arrival. For example, if the listing says “3-Day 2 Night Ha Long Bay 5-Star Cruise”  you could be booked on any of the cruises classified as a 5-Star Luxury Cruise. However, if it says the boat’s name in the listing, that is the boat you will be booked on. All of that to say, if you have a specific boat that you want to cruise on, we recommend booking directly with that company. If the specific boat doesn’t matter to you, then booking with GetYourGuide  or Viator  can be a hassle-free way to book your Halong Bay cruise.

2. Plan Your Transportation

Most Halong Bay cruise operators offer transportation to and from your starting destination but it does need to be arranged in advance. Thankfully, they make it pretty easy! You’ll just need to select the transportation add-on when booking. This is what we did and it worked out perfectly. We were picked up by a limousine bus from our hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi and transported 2.5 hours to our cruise’s departure point in Halong Bay. And while there are more budget-friendly transportation options, the convenience and extra peace of mind that this method provides are well worth the extra cost in our opinion.

3. Check the Weather Forecast

Halong Bay’s weather can be unpredictable, with fog, rain, and even the occasional storm. The best time to visit is September-November and March-May when the weather is cooler and drier. That said, we visited in March and it was cloudy, rainy, and foggy for the majority of our visit. So regardless of when you’re visiting, check the forecast a few days before your trip to avoid any surprises.

4. Pack Smart and Light

Space on the boats can be somewhat limited, so packing smart and light is a must, but don’t forget essentials like sunscreen, a bathing suit, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, nicer clothes for dinners onboard, and a light jacket depending on the season you visit. Also, remember that throughout your cruise, you’ll likely be partaking in a variety of activities that require different attire so keep that in mind when packing. Be sure to check the cruise schedule and activities so you’ll know what you’re in for, and check out our Halong Bay Packing List  for ideas on what to bring!

5. Prepare for Limited Connectivity

Wi-Fi is available on most cruise boats, but the connection can be spotty and cell phone connection isn’t likely. As long as you know that going in, you can prepare accordingly and embrace the opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings, and enjoy some digital detox. And when you’re back on dry land and in need of cell connection, we recommend purchasing an eSIM from Sim Local !

6. Be Ready for Early Mornings

Halong Bay cruises often start early, with some boats departing as early as sunrise. Once you’re on board, that doesn’t change. Whether it’s sunrise Tai Chi or an early morning kayak tour if you want to take advantage of all that your cruise offers, you’ll probably be waking up with the birds. And while waking up at the crack of dawn might not be your idea of a vacation, the serene morning views are worth it. Plus, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and explore!

7. Expect Crowds

I wish I could say that Halong Bay is all rainbows and butterflies, and while it is stunning and well worth a visit, it is far from a hidden gem. In fact, more than 2.5 million people visit the UNESCO World Heritage site each year, so be prepared for large crowds and long lines at some of the area's more popular sights like Titop Island, Sung Sot Cave, and certain kayak excursions to name a few. This is why we recommend spending the extra time and money to go on a 3-day, 2-night cruise. This way you’ll get to venture further into the bay and explore areas that many of the shorter cruises never make it to.

8. Try the Local Cuisine

Meals are typically included with your cruise package, which makes for a fantastic opportunity to sample different Vietnamese dishes. Expect fresh seafood, delicious spring rolls, and other local specialties. We especially enjoyed the spring rolls (fresh and fried), the Cha Muc (Grilled Chopped Squid) , and the fresh local fruit! If you have dietary restrictions, be sure to inform your cruise operator in advance.

9. Don’t Miss the Nightlife on Board

Most cruises offer evening entertainment like squid fishing, karaoke, or just stargazing from the deck. Regardless of the activity, it can be a fun way to meet other travelers as you wind down after a day of exploring, and it adds an extra layer to your Halong Bay experience.

10. Bring Cash for Tips and Extras

While most of your cruise expenses will be covered, it’s customary to tip the crew. Additionally, if you plan to purchase drinks or souvenirs, or participate in optional activities, having some cash on hand is helpful.

Ha Long Bay Tour Itinerary With Genesis Regal Cruise

Day 1: hanoi – halong bay – dark & light cave – lan ha bay. o/n genesis regal cruise (l/d).

Morning activities:

• 08.00 – 08.30: Driver picks you up at your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter. And depart for Ha Long Bay.

Special Afternoon activities at Genesis Regal Cruise:

• 11.30 – 11.45: You will be welcomed at the Genesis Regal lounge, rest and register for the trip.
• 12.15 – 12.45: Travel by small boat to Genesis Regal Cruise. The boat will begin the journey to explore Halong Bay – Lan Ha Bay .
• 12.45 – 13.30: Enjoy lunch on board.
• 13.45 – 15.00: You can rest in your room. Or relax on the boat and enjoy the scenery of Lan Ha Bay.
• 15:00 – 16:30: A short trip to Dark and Light Cave , where you will experience bamboo boats rowed by local people.
• 17:00 – 18:00: Genesis Regal Cruise moves to anchor for the night. You can swim or relax on the boat.

Evening activities:

• 18.00 – 19.15: Join the “ sunset party” on the boat. After that, the ship will move to Tra Bau area to anchor overnight.
• 19.30 – 20.45: Enjoy dinner on board.
• 21.00 – 22.00: Evening entertainment activities such as karaoke, watching movies, squid fishing…
• 22.00 – 22.30: The boat anchors and spends the night in the quietest area of ​​the bay.

Day 2: Explore Tra Bau Floating House – Hanoi (B/L)

Morning & Afternoon activities:
