7 Gorgeous Gulf Coast Beaches From Texas to Florida

Here are the best beaches on the Gulf of Mexico for your next relaxing getaway.

Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. She now splits her time between Colorado and Paris, ensuring she doesn't have to live without skiing or L'As du Fallafel.

fly gulf express travel and tourism

There are five states lucky enough to have a coastline along the Gulf of Mexico, often referred to as the Gulf Coast. These states — Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida — attract millions of travelers each summer with promises of emerald waters and white-sand beaches . The problem? With hundreds of miles of picture-perfect shoreline, how does one choose exactly where to go to soak up some sun?

The Gulf Coast has something for every beachgoer. Siesta Key has one of the best beaches in Florida and St. Pete Beach has some of the clearest water, while Bay St. Louis in Mississippi is known for its fresh seafood and charming downtown shops.

Below are seven of the best Gulf Coast beaches where you can park your blanket on soft sugar sand by blue-green waters for some much-needed R&R.

Henderson Beach State Park, Destin, Florida

Welcome to Florida’s Panhandle — the long, narrow strip of land bordered by Alabama, Georgia, and the Gulf of Mexico. In Destin you’ll find prime golfing, a bustling spring break and summer culture, and Henderson Beach State Park . Here, nature trails wind through the 30-foot-tall white dunes and the coastal scrub habitat, where wildlife finds refuge under the pine and oak canopies. Because of its location near the edge of the Continental Shelf, Destin has been dubbed "the world's luckiest fishing village,” where you can cast a line for the blackfin tuna, grouper, amberjack, and king mackerel that gather in the area.

The emerald green waters are calm and shallow making them perfect for snorkeling, kiteboarding, and paddle boarding (keep an eye out for the dolphin pods that take advantage of the fish found just offshore). When you’re not relaxing on the snow-white, soft sands, you’ll find entertainment, rides, and treats like funnel cakes, shaved ice, and “pier-to-plate” seafood at HarborWalk Village . You can also stop by Florida’s largest candymaker for fresh salt water taffy and pralines for shoreline snacking.

Bay St. Louis Beach, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi

ArtistheJourney/Getty Images

Biloxi gets all the press, but if you have your heart set on a clean, pristine stretch of sand and clear waters, head to the quiet seaside city of Bay St. Louis . The clean, dog-friendly beach here has that white sand the Gulf Coast is famous for so you'll want to camp out for the entire afternoon. Paddle the Grassy Point Blueway in a kayak to really appreciate the gorgeous namesake bay.

When you’ve caught too much sun, make your way through the shops and restaurants in Old Town Bay St. Louis , right off Beach Boulevard. Grab a cone of lavender-honey ice cream from Creole Creamery , a plate of fresh seafood at the Thorny Oyster , or a frozen concoction at the Daiquiri Shak before you head back to the beach.

Padre Island National Seashore, Corpus Christi, Texas

This protected stretch of the world's longest barrier island has 66 miles of undeveloped coastline and one of the last intact coastal prairie habitats in the United States . Padre Island National Seashore also borders the Laguna Madre, one of the few hypersaline lagoons in the world. Windsurf the lagoon, lounge on pristine beaches , swim in the calm, warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, or discover the area's unique environment, home to tidal mud flats, more than 380 different species of birds, and sea turtles whose hatchlings are released around June and August.

Siesta Key Beaches, Siesta Key, Florida

Jack Elka Photo/Getty Images

The 99-percent pure quartz sand on Siesta Key is always cool to the touch — an important aspect when it comes to vacationing in the Sunshine State, where summer temps average around 90 degrees. You can cool off in the blue-green, shallow waters of this barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Sarasota, Florida or join the drum circle that forms on the beach every Sunday at sunset . Beyond its Edenic shoreline, Siesta Key is known for its fun atmosphere and activities. Go sailing, fishing, or sightseeing out on the water, or hit the oyster bar or Daiquiri Deck at Siesta Key Village. Other than that, all you have to worry about — as the name suggests — is relaxing the day away on your quintessential Florida vacation .

Orange Beach, Orange Beach, Alabama

This subtropical getaway has that quintessential Gulf Coast look: A long strip of white quartz sand and aquamarine waters. Popular with spring breakers and families alike, Orange Beach has plenty to do and see from the shore and beyond. The water sports hub is perfect for boating, jet skiing, kayaking, and sailing. You can also swim and dive beneath its glassy waters. Spot playful dolphins during a sunset cruise , or paddle along the Back Bay Blueway to see the sugary sand and cypress swamps the Alabama Gulf Coast is known for. When you want to stretch your legs, hop on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail , a 15-mile route that passes through several ecosystems, including those that house otters and alligators.

Shell Island, Panama City Beach, Florida

Many of Florida ’s beach towns are quaint little seaside respites. Not Panama City Beach , though. Located in the Panhandle, this is the closest you’ll get to Miami’s party beaches so far north. But, if you’re looking to get away from the crowds, it's hard to top a day on nearby Shell Island , which is only accessible by boat and feels like your own private island. The seven miles of wild coast is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrew Bay and is a mostly undeveloped oasis perfect for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and beachcombing. Keep an eye out for the island’s namesake shells as well as the ample wildlife — like deer, ghost crabs, and sea turtles — that call it home.

To get here, take the Shell Island Shuttle or the Shell Island Ferry , or rent your own private boat to take over. Don't forget to pack plenty of water and snacks, since the island is void of shops and services.

St. Pete Beach, St. Pete Beach, Florida

Michela Sieman/Travel + Leisure

St. Pete Beach is famous for frequent sunshine, clear Gulf waters, and its 1928, Moorish-Mediterranean “ Pink Palace ” by the sea. It’s a chill resort city on a barrier island off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, and is popular with families and couples looking for a friendly, quiet getaway. Walking along the sugar sand shore, swimming, spotting manatees, and celebrating the sunset in front of the Paradise Grille are all popular beach activities here. When you get parched, head to Jimmy B’s Beach Bar behind the Beachcomber Hotel or the wildly entertaining RumFish Grill , where you can dine on fresh seafood surrounded by three giant, colorful aquariums full of snook, tarpons, and stingrays (you can even snorkel in the tanks if you want a more hands-on experience!).

Qatar, independent emirate on the west coast of the Persian Gulf. Occupying a small desert peninsula that extends northward from the larger Arabian Peninsula, it has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

Rapid economic expansion, barely brooked by the global recession, international sports tournaments, and Education City: these are some of the many hallmarks of Qatar’s sophistication.

The modern capital with its spectacular tapering towers, elegant cornice and extravagant malls, makes Doha arguably the finest stopover in the Gulf.  But there’s more to Qatar than a shopping spree. The whole country, with its heritage souks, world-class Museum of Islamic Art, and lyrical sand dunes, offers an excellent introduction to the Arab world but without the tensions often associated with the Middle East.

GCC travel and tourism: On a steady path to growth

fly gulf express travel and tourism

Chris Ross, chief commercial officer, EMEA Collinson, gives us insights into how the travel industry is contributing to the region’s economy and key travel trends

Avatar

How is business in the GCC region given the travel industry has rebounded to pre- pandemic levels?

GCC region’s travel industry has rebounded strongly, surpassing 2019 tourist arrival levels by 15 per cent in Q1 2023, outperforming Europe. The UAE’s tourism sector is expected to contribute nearly Dhs181bn in 2023, just 1.5 per cent below pre-pandemic levels, with substantial job creation.

The UAE has for a long time been a key market for the GCC for inbound tourism and Saudi Arabia, in line with its Vision 2030 strategy, has invested heavily to advance its positioning as a tourist destination with the developments of destinations such as Al Ula.

We’ve seen a continued trend post-pandemic for travellers arriving at airports hours earlier than they used to and making the most of their pre-travel experience whether that’s using a lounge, shopping, or starting the trip early in F&B outlets.

We’ve also seen that travellers are increasingly booking trips for longer periods whether that’s through combining business trips with leisure trips or going on longer haul trips for more adventurous holidays.

Data also indicates that people are more willing to pay for premium experiences, whether they are seeking a little more space or extra comfort. Collinson has addressed this by adding more lounges and other experiences in the past year, covering 85 per cent of all international flights from the top 100 busiest airports globally.

As part of our broader approach to offer a wide array of airport experiences that extend beyond lounge access, we’ve introduced the largest Sleep ‘n Fly lounge at Dubai International and a second Sleep ‘n Fly lounge at Hamad International Airport in Qatar.

The GCC region is a thriving travel market how does it differ from other travel hot spots in Europe and Southeast Asia?

The GCC region’s travel market stands out when compared to other popular travel destinations in Europe and Southeast Asia. What makes the GCC distinctive is its remarkable resilience and rapid growth in the travel industry.

In the Middle East, there has been an impressive year-on-year increase in tourism, with a notable 28.1 per cent growth, contributing an additional $47bn to the regional economy. Even in the face of operational challenges and closed borders in some areas, air traffic in the MENA region has surged by an astonishing 114 per cent. This reflects the region’s ability to quickly adapt to changing consumer demand and its strong recovery.

Despite ongoing challenges such as inflation and rising travel expenses, Europe’s travel industry is showing resilience. It’s noteworthy that we cover 100 per cent of all flights departing from Dubai, ensuring convenient access to our services, regardless of the terminal from which travellers depart.

Tell us about your collaborative partnerships in the Gulf region and how you expect these to enhance travel solutions.

Collinson is the global leader in the provision of airport experiences, loyalty, and customer engagement solutions. Our approach to travel loyalty goes beyond conventional programmes, uniquely rewarding travellers both before and during their journeys, setting us apart from other loyalty initiatives, especially in the Gulf region.

By forming strategic alliances, we empower consumers to accumulate points year-round when making purchases with an array of merchants, subsequently enhancing their travel experiences. We are resolutely dedicated to extending this regionally, ensuring that travellers seamlessly integrate our benefits with their existing loyalty programmes.

In the Middle East, we have a strong partnership with Emirates Skywards where we’ve worked to develop skywardsmilesmall.com which is powered by Collinson’s SmartEarn platform that helps boost Skywards Miles earning potential, whilst curating tailored and personalised rewards for members.

GCC travel and tourism

Additionally, Collinson’s SmartLink platform allows Emirates Skywards members residing in the UK and the US to link their payment cards and earn Miles when they shop with the participating partner brands.

Another key offering is Priority Pass, the travel and airport experience programme, and LoungeKey, a digital travel experiences programme, owned and operated by Collinson. Both are designed to enhance the airport experience for travellers. We recently conducted a global survey, which looked at travellers in different markets around the world and their behaviour.

Our study found that half (53 per cent) of global travellers can switch off easily when travelling if they can visit an airport lounge before they fly. This is particularly prevalent in the UAE, where a similar number of travellers in the UAE also feel that shopping duty-free (51 per cent) and experiencing food and beverage (41 per cent) are also the most effective ways to switch off pre-flight.

This is crucial information that helps us to tailor our loyalty solutions to meet the needs and wants of our members. We recently committed to enhancing the pre-flight airport experience through partnerships that provide premium lounge access for members, so their trips are seamless from the minute they leave the house.

Examples in the Middle East include The Primeclass Lounge at Muscat International Airport in Oman and the naSmiles Lounge at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. We also have a close partnership with Reward, a leading provider of personalised card-linked offers (or PCLO), which extends its reach into the Middle East.

Overall, our strategic partnerships seamlessly enhance the travel experience for our customers. Our collaborations encompass shopping rewards, premium lounge access, personalised offers, and flight delay assistance, ensuring travellers worldwide enjoy exceptional and hassle-free journeys.

Which travel trends are advancing customer experience and how do you see shaping up in the medium term?

Flexible travel and the combination of work and leisure whether that’s through the rise in ‘leisure’ trips or remote work abroad – we’re seeing a change in consumer attitudes whereby their travel experience from door to door is jampacked.

SmartDelay is a flight delay feature that gives back to members if a flight experiences a delay exceeding 60 minutes. They receive valuable benefits such as access to airport lounges. This service has received growing interest as travel companies have struggled during the ‘revenge travel’ period and we see it increasingly supporting the trend where travellers are deeply affected if something in their itinerary changes beyond their control.

We’re also witnessing a luxury evolution whereby travellers, including the younger generations, are actively seeking luxury experiences driven by influence on social media and heightened competition from airlines and hotels to offer the best deal and make travel more accessible across the board.

To meet this demand, we’re continuously evolving our rewards and offerings and continue to expand our lounge access and experiences for members globally. Many travellers are now yearning to disconnect from the constant distractions of their devices and immerse themselves in the serenity of nature during their vacations.

This new generation of travellers seeks an escape from reality and desires to learn survival skills, like fire-building and foraging for food, as part of their off-grid vacations, adding an adventurous dimension to their journeys. If you’re looking to truly go off the grid, the Middle East is an ideal destination.

Here, visitors can indulge in a variety of activities, such as camping under the desert stars, floating in the salty waters of the Dead Sea, and exploring the world’s wonders.

Give us insight into new travel trends such as wellbeing holidays and smart spending.

The travel industry in the UAE is witnessing transformative trends in response to changing traveller preferences. A noteworthy trend is a rise in ‘wellbeing holidays’ driven by the impact of digital connectivity on travellers.

Our recent study highlighted a rise in a term we coined FOSO the ‘fear of switching off’. The study found that 58 per cent of UAE travellers find it challenging to disconnect from their digital devices during vacations, with a quarter (28 per cent) admitting that they check their phones every 30 minutes or less – 10 per cent higher than the global average.

Seventy-four per cent of respondents in the UAE feel that managing their FOSO before travelling can greatly improve their overall wellbeing. When it comes to the ideal type of vacation for truly relaxing the best type of travel to switch off is a trip to the beach – followed by a city break, safari, or camping trip. The ideal time to go away is one week.

How is the use of digital technologies reshaping travel and tourism for both travellers and businesses in the industry?

GCC travel and tourism

We are forging partnerships and collaborations across the travel ecosystem to develop disruptive technology that will benefit priority travellers.

Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, for instance, can pre-book essential travel services, such as ground transportation thanks to our partnership with CarTrawler, before they arrive at the airport. This makes each airport trip smoother, pleasant, and stress-free.

GCC countries are investing significantly in the travel and hospitality sectors. How is this contributing to economic growth in the region?

The GCC nations are strategically diversifying their economies away from oil and gas, with tourism recognised as a key viable industry. The UAE, particularly Dubai, exemplifies this transformation, luring investors with its expanding tourism offerings and favourable regulations. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman are all actively working to boost visitor numbers.

Overall, GCC investments in the travel and hospitality sectors are spurring economic diversification, job creation, and infrastructure enhancement, making the region increasingly attractive for companies like Collinson that are reshaping the travel landscape for global travellers.

What’s the key focus for Collinson this year?

Our focus this year is showcasing exactly how we aim to always put the customer first, ensuring a stress-free and seamless travel experience from the minute they arrive at the airport and using a loyalty programme that offers customers the benefits and rewards that appeal to them where they feel rewarded.

The modern traveller seeks value-added benefits, and Priority Pass is renowned for providing a relaxed experience with luxurious facilities and amenities. We recently conducted another study that explored the value of travel benefits for consumers, and a lot of the results are pegged to their loyalty as payment card holders.

We found that 45 per cent of consumers are swayed by their card-holder decision dependent on airport lounge access as a reward benefit, which demonstrates how travel benefits are of such high importance when considering loyalty solutions.

We’re working closely to elevate our loyalty options with our partners in the UAE and globally to offer the best rewards and benefits for consumers.

Kumasi is the traditional capital of the Ashanti Kingdom, a famous territory with worldwide renown. Ashanti is popular for many reasons, chief among which is the bravado and wisdom of its past kings and royals who ruled many centuries ago and up to the present. Well-remembered among these ‘Asantehene’ (Akan word for ‘Asante Kings’) are Okomfo (Chief Fetish priest) Anokye and Osei Tutu. Ashanti rulers have proved to be a positive unifying force to their subjects, making their kingdom the envy of all neighbouring states. Kumasi is a five-hour drive from Accra and is home to a fine variety of attractions as it works in tandem with famous villages like Bonwire, Ntonso, Ejisu and Lake Bosomtwi.

THE SLAVERY STORY

BRUSH WITH THE FORERUNNERS

fly gulf express travel and tourism

Countless numbers of the original sons and daughters of West Africa and other sub-regional parts were captured and ferried across the Atlantic ocean to America and the Caribbean between the 14th and 15th centuries to work as slaves on cotton and other plantations. The descendants of these slaves eventually recognized and today pay tribute to their forebears by visiting the countries which they believe are the source of their roots. One of such remembrance celebrations is the Pan African Festival (PANAFEST), which brings hundreds of diasporans to Ghana every four years. EMANCIPATION DAY celebrates the liberation of slaves, in an elaborate retreat that incorporates retracing the Slave Route, the trail used by the captured ancestors as they were driven in chains by their captors.

As airfares skyrocket ahead of the holiday season, travellers making plans for last-minute trips out could end up paying a lot more than usual.

Customers naturally seek the lowest price; airlines look for ways to fill every seat and maximise revenue.

So where do we find cheap flights? And why is it that when you check a ticket online, airfares go up a day — or even few moments — later?

Airfares should be priced similarly everywhere, right?

It’s no magic. It’s so by design. There's a luggage full of reasons why ticket prices vary significantly even for the adjacent seats in the same class, and on the same flight.

Fasten your seatbelt...

Airfare pricing is a complex process. Algorithms and machine learning play an increasing role, but human decision is a key factor, too. By pouring through old and past repeatable patterns, for example, algorithms make predictions based on the likelihood of those patterns working again.

But how do airlines know which country, or locality, you’re booking from? There are certain ways to find out, but it all boils down to the IP (internet protocol) address. It can also be done through mobile tracking or your Wi-Fi connection and your location (from your browser data).

In turns out that your online footprint, part of the so-called “big data”, is the new currency. For example, booking platform Hopper claims the company’s airfare predictive tool is trained on 75 trillion itineraries and eight years of historical price data.

The data includes “cookies” (built specifically for web browsers to track, personalise, and save information about your session), customer geolocation, device type, and browsing behaviour.

Why did I pay more than my seat mate on the same flight?

It’s due to the what is known as the “fare bucket” system. In the airline business, it’s a common practice for a group of seats to sell at one price. Once all sold, another “bucket” opens up at a different price.

So you have a situation where, the passenger sitting in 22C has paid hundreds of dollars more for their trip than the passenger in 22D.

That’s one role algorithms, and increasingly AI (artificial intelligence) play in aviation.

Automated systems also form part of this nebulous equation: if a rival airline lowers its fares on a particular route, another airline may catch up on the change — and promptly respond — by lowering its own prices.

Due to the difficulty of foreseeing what another system or airline will do, most data scientists would readily admit it’s not always easy to predict fares with a decent rate of accuracy.

However, for those developing price-prediction algorithms, the outcomes are typically predictable when based on historical data. That's why your browsing and search history are valued by aviation data miners.

In a study published in the  Journal of King Saud University - Computer and Information Sciences (also on Science Direc t) in May 2021, authors led by Juhar Ahmed Abdella, explained trends in airline ticket pricing and demand prediction.

Salt Lake City International Airport

The researchers said that instead of relying on these computational techniques such as demand prediction and price discrimination, which they found "inadequate ", they proposed that external factors such as social media data and search engine query be considered for ticket/demand prediction, too. If so, this could add a layer of complexity to the process.

Top 10 airline booking sites

Why do airlines cut prices at the last minute?

It’s a constant cat-and-mouse game. And one that could favour a potential customer who is patient and a smart shopper (more on this below).

Oleksandr Kolisnykov, who works for software firm Altexsoft which develops price-prediction tools, admitted to Wired that it’s hard to predict an airline’s reasoning behind and variables that impact the current price.

However, data on price history can be tracked, upon which predictions for the future can be made.

Why did Google Flights limit its "predictive insights"?

Google Flights is known for helping customers track down the least expensive tickets for their preferred routes and dates. In the summer of 2019, Google Flights launched its "predictive insights " — forecasts of when prices are likely to go up or drop.

flights

However, since the Spring of 2020, the heightened volatility of airfares forced the platform to significantly cut down on the number of “predictive insights” it offers in searches. "Predictive Insights" guaranteed fares for some specific itineraries and would send flyers refunds if the price dipped before takeoff.

In general, Google Flights aims for 90 per cent prediction accuracy, Eric Zimmerman, the director of travel products at Google, told Wired . But reaching that high level of confidence has become difficult, especially in the pandemic months.

As the industry stabilises, the project may be revived, Zimmerman says.

Is it still possible to get cheap airfares? If so, when?

A 10 per cent savings can be realised by choosing the cheapest week to fly, according Skyscanner, citing historical data. Skyscanner’s Savings Generator noted that this is the week starting from August 19 (the last week of school holidays), because that's when most people (families, especially) are already done travelling, and are busy preparing for the new school year.

On the other hand, the first two weeks of summer/school holidays are the most popular travel weeks (end of June) — which is when fares could be at their craziest.

Why are summer flights now getting more expensive?

A report by American Express Global Business Travel, citing tens of thousands of client transactions on international flights to and from Asian destinations, found that flying will be far more expensive this summer.

Example: a typical New York-to-Hong Kong flight in economy class cost more than twice as much this 2023 as in 2018/2019, and almost a third more than in 2017.

Some helpful tips (to nail cheap airfares)

Now that we know how airlines and booking platforms work (sort of), how do you get cheap flights anyway?

It turns out, less pricey tickets do exist. It takes some patience and good timing. Here are some helpful tips from travel experts and booking platforms themselves:

#1. Use “incognito browsing”, clear cookies, browsing history:

This is a key step. It’s no secret that certain travel websites track your search history and increase prices based on “demand". To avoid this, use incognito browsing mode or clear your cookies before searching for flights.

If you end up checking the same site multiple times, you’re marked. This is called algorithm-based pricing — you will find a ticket price jumping the next minute. Clearing your data or browsing history will help avoid this. It is best to use incognito mode when browsing for air tickets, so you prevent this from happening again.

#2. Use flight comparison sites:

There a number of platforms that offer price comparisons, including Google Flights, Kayak and Expedia. As long as it’s reliable and valid, it should offer some decent, up-to-date discounts as well. Airlines generally monitor competitors' fares to remain competitive. By utilising flight comparison websites, or online travel agencies, you can compare prices across different airlines. These platforms allow you to easily compare fares, enabling you to choose the most affordable option.

#3. Plan ahead, book in advance:

Know the best days to book, and best day to fly: Expedia, a travel booking platform, cites data that shows planning ahead (by at least six months) can help you grab good deals, especially for international travel. Don’t try to book too far ahead. Some experts suggest a “sweet spot” of between 4 to 6 weeks ahead of your planned travel date. In general, airlines often offer lower prices for tickets booked well in advance. As the departure date approaches, prices tend to increase. In aviation industry parlance, it is called “dynamic pricing” algorithm based on real-time factors — booking trends, time to departure, seat availability and competitor analysis. As the departure date approaches, prices can rise due to higher demand or decrease to fill remaining seats. High demand may result in higher prices.

What if you haven't planned that far ahead? Here’s one Expedia tip: Make sure you book your flight on a Sunday. While Sunday is the best day to make the booking, Expedia said the best day to actually depart or travel is Wednesday. Tuesday mornings can also give you cheaper fares, according to viatravelers.com, since airlines release their fares on that day. Mid-week travel, most of these reports concur, offer the cheapest flights but don't wait until mid-week to make that booking.

#4. Be flexible with dates and times:

Choose off-peak days or times for travel if your trip plans are flexible. Flights are typically less expensive on weekdays, early mornings, or late nights since there is less demand. According to these booking platform surveys, the easiest approach to obtain the lowest rates is to have flexible travel dates.

#5. Consider nearby airports, connecting flights:

This is an important aside to being flexible: See if there are any additional airports close to the cities of your departure or destination. Flying to or from a neighbouring airport can occasionally be less expensive, and the savings may exceed the added expense of transportation. You may check connecting options because they might offer cheaper prices. Just make sure you have adequate time for the connection, and take into account any layover-related visa or entry requirements.

#6. Sign up for price alerts:

To learn about special offers, discounts, or flash sales, sign up for price alert services or follow airlines on social media. You can keep up with pricing changes or promotional offers in this way.

#7. Be open to budget airlines:

When flying short distances, think about using a low-cost airline. These airlines may not provide as many amenities, but their costs are typically less than those of full-service carriers.

#8. Use frequent flyer programs and rewards:

Join the frequent flyer program of the airline or alliance (SkyTeam, Star Alliance and Oneworld) you use frequently for travel. When you amass miles or points from your travels, you can use them later to redeem for cheap — or free — flights.

#9. Be patient and wait for seat sales, then act fast:

Some airlines run specials and promotions on certain occasions. Some offer cheap fares on regular basis. You can wait for these sales to purchase discounted air tickets if your vacation plans are flexible. To avoid missing out on desired flights or availability, do not wait for too long, i.e. act fast — when you do find a cheap air ticket, be ready to act on the spot.

FlyDubai announces record profit as Gulf air travel booms

The state-owned carrier reported 327 million dollars (£271 million) in profit in 2022, up 43% from the previous year.

fly gulf express travel and tourism

Budget carrier FlyDubai announced record profits on Wednesday, benefitting from a surge in air travel following the lifting of pandemic restrictions.

The state-owned carrier, based in the business and tourism hub of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, reported 327 million dollars (£271 million) in profit in 2022, up 43% from the previous year.

Annual revenue for 2022 was up 72%, to 2.5 billion dollars (£2.07 billion), it said.

“We realised early on the great opportunities that Dubai provides and remained focused and ready to scale up our operations once the demand for travel returned,” Ghaith Al Ghaith, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement.

Traffic more than doubled last year at Dubai’s airport, the busiest in the world for international travel, but still lags a record set in 2019 before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

FlyDubai said it carried 10.6 million passengers in 2022, up 89% from the previous year.

The sister airline to long-haul carrier Emirates has also ramped up capacity, with the delivery of 17 new aircraft and the hiring of some 1,300 employees over the past year, it said.

In 2020, FlyDubai had reported losses of 194 million dollars (£160 million).
