"With my first travel nursing contract in Gander, Newfoundland complete - I can honesty say that I have made so many friendships and connections here that will last a lifetime! 🤍 I had the opportunity to work in a new place and to explore a lot on my days off, independently and with friends. I also got to visit a piece of France with my amazing grandparents. Both staff and travel nurses alike have been so good to me and welcomed me to this amazing province. You are all incredible people, and have made this experience the best in the world - I can’t wait to come back! A huge thank you to Northern Medical Connections for being so amazing and supportive through this entire process - you truly made this the BEST experience! I would recommend travel nursing to anyone and would highly recommend working with Northern Med! On to my next adventure! ✌️✈️”

"Everyone at Northern Med has been so kind and they really do care!"

“I'm very happy I decided to take a contract with Northern Med! The staff that I have interacted with have all been so kind and they really do care and make an effort to check in with you. Whenever issues came up, they were quick to address the situation. I loved Nova Scotia so much that I actually extended my contract! I made lots of friends and was able to explore a part of Canada that I probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for travel nursing.”

"I remember always being told my full-time line was the end goal as a new nurse, yet I still felt there had to be more out there for me."

“One year ago, I took a leap of faith. I remember always being told my full-time line was the end goal as a new nurse, yet I still felt there had to be more out there for me. I quit my line, gave away my belongings, signed my first contract and haven’t looked back since. Life has always been good to me, but this season of full-time travel nursing has been unparalleled. Big thanks to NMC for being such a supportive agency and for proving that a fulfilling career and a beautiful adventurous life should exist simultaneously. We don’t need a vacation from a life like this.”

Travel nurse who left job in rural Newfoundland says government can’t have its cake and eat it too

  • Duration 1:12

Stacey Button left her full-time job as a licensed practical nurse in Springdale, N.L., to become a travel nurse, after what she says was around 10 years of feeling overworked and underappreciated. She says the provincial government is deflecting blame by calling travel nurses a ‘necessary evil.’

Miracles of St. Matrona in Our Days

Stories from letters to the editors of pravoslavie.ru.

“ Of course she helped me, and not just once!”

The most important moments in my life:

—Through her holy prayers, I obtained my own apartment in my favorite region of Moscow (there was a real possibility of having to move to another end of the city).

—I found a very good job, my dream job (this was twelve years ago, but I am still working here!).

I went out during one of our lunch breaks for a stroll, and prayed to Matronyshka for guidance. And when I turned the corner I practically ran head-on into my future wife. As it turns out, she was just returning from Pokrov Convent [where the relics of St. Matrona are], where she was praying about the same thing that I was praying about.

Well in fact Blessed Matrona is my favorite and dearest saint!

Ekaternia Doroshenkova

“ Dry roses sprouted fresh growth.”

Hello, brothers and sisters. I would like to tell you the story of a miracle. My mother told me about it. In 2012, a particle of the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow was brought to us in Krasnoyarsk [Siberia]. People waited in line for several hours in order to venerate her relics. While standing in line my mother heard this story from a nurse who worked in the oncology ward. This nurse has venerated St. Matrona for a long time, prays to her, and has been to her reliquary in the Moscow Pokrov Convent several times.

At the convent they gave her some dry roses that were blessed on the relics of the saint, and she brought these to the dying woman. In the train (it takes four whole days to travel to us by train) a miracle happened: Those dry rose began to sprout fresh growth. And when she arrived home and gave the roses to the patient, she was healed.

Wondrous are Thy works, O Lord! Holy Blessed Matronushka, pray to Christ for us!

Ekaterina Doroshenkova

“ I immediately understood that this money was brought help you!”

I would like to share another little miracle of my own.

In 2010, after a long interval, I had the opportunity to finish the last year of the university. They were letting me finish only for money. With God’s help I finished the first semester. I borrowed money from my employer with a year’s postponement of repay. I wanted to take out a bank loan for the second and last semester. But two different banks denied me credit.

I had no one to count on for help, because my parents live very modestly.

In just a few days a colleague at work (with whom I was not even close friends, but she knew about my situation with the tuition), brought me the sufficient amount on loan.

As it turns out, her mother had the day before brought her this money, which she had saved up just for her. She didn’t need the money at the moment, and there was nothing to spend it on. She said, “I immediately understood that this money was brought to help you!”

This is how Blessed Matrona helped me through kind people. I received very obvious help through her prayers throughout that school year.

Blessed Matrona, pray to Christ God for us!

Tatiana Ketova

“ My pain went away in literally just a few minutes.”

Not long ago, Matronyshka helped me: My relative went on a pilgrimage to Matushka Matronushka and brought us blessed oil as a gift. I had baked pies in the oven for the children when they arrived and in the process burned my finger on the hot baking pan. A wide, white strip appeared immediately. In a panic, I didn’t know what to use on it—a raw potato, cold water, butter, oil all passed through my mind…

But I had read contrary opinions about all of these cures at one time. Then a precise thought came into my mind: “oil from Matronushka”. I applied the oil to the burn with prayer, stood a few minutes before the icons, prayed some more (I asked that at least to take the pain away, because I had to go to work that evening, and I worked in rubber gloves with water).

After these few minutes the pain had gone away completely. I finished baking the pies, went to work, and redid various things; the burned area quickly turned red, and the expected large boils did not appear. It all went away calmly and unnoticeably thanks to Matronushka.

What, you ask, has Marcia Dare been up to these last 40 years? Well, here's a not-so-brief synopsis:

She foolishly got married at 18 (big, big, BIG mistake), wisely got divorced at 21, and then finally went to college while living with her sister who was teaching at WSU. After completing her student teaching assignment in Richland, she high-tailed it to Seattle to hook up with a friend who had promised to travel to Europe on $10 a day with her. Alas, the fickle friend had found a job instead. Too cowardly to travel alone, Marcia decided to look for a job, too. Rather than seeking a teaching position in November, she landed a totally fun secretarial job at KOMO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Seattle. In 11 years, she worked her way from Sales Secretary to Regional Sales Manager before a corporate re-shuffle eliminated that position, and she found herself unemployed. (Yikes! Don't you just hate corporate politics?)

Anyway, she and her swell beau Larry decided to marry in 1983. In l987 (on Valentine's Day, no less), she gave birth to their one and only child, a lovely daughter named Lauren Camille Asher, now 17 and entering her senior year of high school.

Marcia has been fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home mom during Lauren's formative years, while subbing in the school district on occasion. The title she most cherishes (besides "Mom," of course) is "Committed Volunteer." She is currently the Concessions Queen of MIHS, where the volleyball games are known for their gourmet fare. She is also the co-director of a private volleyball club that fields five junior teams. Every spring she hosts the Annual First Hill Easter Egg Hunt that attracts around 250 kids and parents eager to get at the 5,000 pieces of candy and 200 prize eggs. During Summer Celebration on Mercer Island, she helps put on a Junior Art Show which showcases the art of kids from K-12.

2004 has brought her a new role to play-that of caretaker to an elderly parent. Her 89-year-old mom is currently recovering from two traumatic falls, two hospitalizations, two surgeries, and two nursing home stints. Marcia is trying to move her from San Diego to Seattle, but the process is slow because the healing is slow.

While many of her classmates are doting grandparents looking forward to retirement, Marcia now needs to find a job because sending a kid to college is too darned expensive these days!

She is really looking forward to catching up with her classmates' lives and eagerly welcomes any advice on handling teenaged girls, chronologically-challenged parental units, and surviving the empty-nest syndrome.
