Tourism Statistics in Georgia
Tourism in georgia.
Georgia, stretching from the shores of the Black Sea to the snowy peaks of the Caucasus Mountains , has been hosting more and more tourists from numerous countries of the world. While 6,305,635 international travelers came to Georgia in 2015, which was a new record at the time, the number of travelers in 2019 reached 9,357,964. When the pandemic struck in 2020, in Georgia and the rest of the world, the tourism industry ground to a near-complete halt. Many people working in this sector were left jobless, and some businesses went bankrupt. However, in 2022, the sector has enjoyed a revival, with 5,426,903 travelers coming to Georgia representing 58% of the amount for the entire year of 2019 in which the record was set.
Geographical Origin of Tourists
Streams of tourists come to Georgia from its neighboring countries as well as from further afield. Georgia receives a substantial number of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Russian tourists. In addition, EU citizens are starting to visit in greater numbers, as well as Israelis and Japanese.
The most popular destinations in Georgia are the capital city of Tbilisi and the coastal region of Adjara (and particularly its captivating port city of Batumi). In the first half of 2022, a total of 820,500 tourists visited Tbilisi, and 548,400 tourists visited Adjara (despite the summer season not having started by that point). In the period from July to September, the number of visitors to Batumi, and to Adjara region as a whole increased substantially.
Tourists also travel in significant numbers to the mountainous locations of Svaneti , Tusheti, Khevsureti, and Kazbegi as well. Interest is also high among tourists in the regions of Imereti, Kakheti , Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, and Guria.
Tourist Seasons
Georgia attracts tourists all-year-round, but the trends in terms of places visited vary from one season to the next.
During the winter, tourists are drawn to the ski slopes of Gudauri , Bakuriani, Mestia , and Goderdzi.
During fall, the western region of Kakheti is especially attractive to tourists, as the grapes are harvested and the 8,000-year-old tradition of Georgian wine-making continues.
During the summer, tourists flock to either the shores of the Black Sea, or up to the cooler climes of Georgia’s high mountains.
So, as soon as you find time for a vacation, come to Georgia, whatever the time of year, where wonderful memories are waiting to be made.

New numbers reveal georgia, savannah broke tourism records in 2022.
The state saw its largest number of visitors ever in 2022, according to data from the governor's office.

Georgia and Savannah are breaking tourism records.
In 2022, the Peach State saw its largest number of visitors yet. Nearly 168 million people visited the state and spent almost $40 billion.
More than 17 million people visited Savannah in 2022. That's 2 million more people than in 2021. Those 17 million people spent upward of $4 billion.
Joseph Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah, said there are several things that are bringing people to the Hostess City.
"Folks come here to enjoy the variety of different types of foods that are available. Of course, they come for our historic landmarks and architecture, and at the end of the day, it's all about the true Savannah Southern hospitality," he said.
Marinelli said while Atlanta gets a lot of visitors because of its airport along with its conventions and trade shows, Savannah owns the leisure scene.
"Savannah is really the pretty face on Georgia's tourism scene," Marinelli said. "What Savannah has to offer really can't be found anywhere else in the country."
Marinelli said while the numbers for 2022 were impressive, he expects 2023 to be a good year for Savannah as well.
"So far, we are right on pace with where we were through July of last year at this time. Our hotel rates are staying high. Our visitor accounts are staying high," he said. "All of our pre-bookings at hotels, the convention business that we have on the books right now tells us that we'll continue to have a strong second half of the year."
Marinelli said Savannah already has more convention business on the books for 2024 than in all of 2023.

Georgia’s international tourism revenue up 182.5% in 2022

Georgia received $3.5 billion from international tourist visits in 2022, a figure that represented a 182.5 percent increase compared to 2021, the National Tourism Administration said on Monday.
The body also said revenue from international tourism had also recovered by 107.6 percent compared to the pre-pandemic 2019.
Last year, 5,426,903 international travellers visited the country - 188.5 percent more than in 2021 - while the number of international tourists visits reached 3,652,949 (+131.6% y/y).
The number of international tourist visits recovered by 71.9 percent in 2022, while the number of international traveller visits rebounded by 58 percent, the GNTA also said.
Zurab Pololikashvili , the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation, on Thursday said Georgia's gastronomy, innovation and promotion strategies were helping make it “shine” across the world.
Georgia’s tourism potential is promoted by officials and companies from the country at the ongoing Fitur 2023 international tourism trade fair in Spain, an event bringing together thousands of companies from over 130 countries.
