OUR LEADERSHIP

At Journey’s Crossing we believe that the best way to reach out to our world and care for the members of this community is through the ongoing development of leaders. Leaders at Journey’s Crossing are gifted men and women who are committed to the Mission, Vision and Values of Journey’s Crossing and to the spiritual, emotional and physical care of the people that God has placed in their team or group. Click here to download our Leadership Application.

COACHES, LEADERS & APPRENTICES

Every Leader at Journey’s Crossing is assigned to a Coach who is committed to praying for and caring for a specified group of Leaders and every Leader is challenged to recruit and care for an Apprentice Leader so that ministry and outreach through Journey’s Crossing will continue to reproduce and multiply.

Our commitment is that every team and group at Journey’s Crossing will have a Coach, Leader and Apprentice Leader, providing care, support and guidance.

Leadership Community

These Coaches, Leaders and Apprentice Leaders form our Leadership Community. About once a quarter, the Leadership Community gathers for leadership training, prayer, worship and fellowship.

Together we dream, pray, grow and encourage each other as we move forward in God’s mission and vision for our church. Often specific ministries will huddle in smaller groups to focus on the unique decisions and dreams of their area of attention.

Leadership Council

The Leadership Council meets monthly to work closely with the Lead Pastor to oversee the ministries of Journey’s Crossing. While the Lead Pastor directly oversees the day to day operations and the staff at Journey’s Crossing, the Leadership Council exists to provide ongoing support, financial review, spiritual accountability and long-term alignment with our mission, vision and values.

This Council is made up of a combination of lay volunteers, and paid staff. All members of this council are appointed to this position by the Lead Pastor and the existing Council and must meet all the expectations of a Member and Leader and at Journey’s Crossing. These men and women share a high commitment to the mission, vision and values of Journey’s Crossing, have faithfully demonstrated Christ-like character and servanthood in ministry and are chosen for their giftedness, example and needs of the church.

The best, most generous people. They really care about the people in their congregation and in the community. They host AA, holiday food pickups, support local schools, and so much more. Can't appreciate them enough!

Spent years feeling like i was drifting away from God and thinking that "MY PLAN" was all that i needed. Wrong... God's already has my plan figured out; i just needed to listen and let him take the drivers seat. This church helped me remind my love for God and rekindle my following of Jesus. Now that my passion for music has carried because of the Lord, worhsip leading is my crazed passion...

We tried Journeys Crossing because we had older children in their teens and in their 20's. We selected Journeys Crossing because this church appeared to fit young people in that age range. It has now been a few years since we attended Journeys Crossing. We attended with our youngest three children (all then in their teens) until we were informed insistently and repeatedly that our youngest child, who had Down syndrome, and then in her mid teens, was expected to go only with the second graders during the worship service. My youngest child was also not welcome in the youth activities. Thankfully, this daughter has been very welcome, active. and productive at other churches and thrives at church.

  • Get to Know Us

We understand looking for a church home is daunting. So, whether you are new or newer to Crossings, want to make this your church home, or would simply like to learn more, come to Get to Know Us and let us take the time to get to know you!

Get to Know Us is a great way to learn more about Crossings in a relaxed, fun group setting.

A team of Crossings staff hosts this event where you will hear from Senior Pastor Marty Grubbs about our history, vision, and values.

What We Believe

Explore what we believe to learn about who we are as a church and what governs our choices.

We believe God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that God is a being who exhibits wonderful power, goodness, and love.

Genesis 1:1, John 1:1-3, Romans 1:19-20

We believe that all people were created in the image of God to live in relationship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 3:23-25, Ephesians 2:8-10

We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who came to earth to show humanity what God was like, and through his physical death and resurrection to reconnect a lost world back to God.

John 1:1-4, John 3:16, John 14:6, 1 John 2:1-2

We believe that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis by which humans can have a relationship with God restored. God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for and forgiveness of their sin.

John 1:12-13, John 3:16, John 11:25-26, Romans 6:23

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired written Word that uniquely reveals who He is, who we are, and how we are to live in relationship with Him. The Bible is the authoritative source by which God guides people as they go through their daily lives.

2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 119:105

We believe the Church is the community to which anyone who follows Jesus Christ belongs, and to whom God has entrusted His message of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation to the human race.

Ephesians 2:19-22, Romans 12:4-5, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

AS A CHRIST-CENTERED PEOPLE, WE WILL LIVE BY FAITH, BE A VOICE OF HOPE, AND BE KNOWN BY LOVE.

We want this vision to be front and center at all times, even if it means that we must not do some things that we could do. Our calling is clear and will continue to guide us into the future.

LIVE BY FAITH

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” - Hebrews 11:1

We believe:

  • Faith is first belief and then action (Hebrews 11).
  • Faith is available through life in Christ. “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.” – Romans 3:22
  • Faith is a choice. “Lord, increase our faith.” – Luke 17:5
  • Faith pleases God. “And without faith it is impossible to please God.” - Hebrews 11:6

BE A VOICE OF HOPE

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13

We are to be hope-givers and desire to:

  • Stay out of the arguments of the culture.
  • Focus on the greatest need of every person on this planet—and his name is Jesus.
  • Be in unity, relationally and spiritually.
  • Lead with love to people outside the church family, right where they are.

BE KNOWN BY LOVE

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16

“This is My commandment, that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you.” – John 15:12

As believers in Christ, we are called to the highest form of love. Our desire is to love the way Jesus loved—to love others like we have been loved by him. We want to be an extravagant demonstration of the love of Jesus Christ to this community and world.

By God’s guiding hand, we continue to reach people for Christ by having five key distinctives that make Crossings the kind of place so many people call their church home:

“For just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” – Romans 12:4-5

We believe unity is essential, and we focus our efforts on teaching the non-debatable principles of Scripture while leaving freedom for personal convictions related to non-essential doctrinal issues.

“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:36

When we view people like God views them, it drives us to love unconditionally and seek to serve them in any way possible. Our hearts should ache for those in need and it should move us to take action.

“All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need." – Acts 2:44-45

"You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully." – 2 Corinthians 9:7

From the beginning of the Church, generosity has been a distinguishing attribute of Christ-followers. It is no different in this community. We believe God has given us everything we have, including hope for our future, so we want to give all we have joyfully and without reservation.

HUMILITY / TRANSPARENCY

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:3-4

Realizing we can’t do life by ourselves, we encourage a culture of openness as we go through life’s journey. We recognize the need for God’s help and for community. We learn from others’ experiences and knowledge while sharing ours so others may benefit.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23

Our belief is that excellence honors God and inspires people. We know, too, that we are responsible for how we use the gifts and offerings we receive. For these reasons, we consider it imperative to do everything to the absolute best of our ability and with the attitude of Christ.

Distinctives

Women in leadership.

We affirm that God gifts both women and men for ministry in the church and his Kingdom. From early on, our spiritual tribe has affirmed women in ministry and leadership in the local church. Here at Crossings, we believe our history is born out of early church history, and even the life and ministry of Jesus. While we understand that there are differing views and interpretations of scripture around this subject, our practice at Crossings is to affirm and support both men and women who are called and empowered to ministry and leadership in the church.

SUNDAY STRATEGY

The focus of our Sunday services is on engaging people who are in many stages of faith—from the curious non-believer to the mature Christian. While Sunday morning messages are centered around life-application, more in-depth teaching is emphasized through our Sunday School and Wednesday evening groups and classes. Crossings seeks to assist people in day-to-day living: to help them find healing from the past, experience assurance and encouragement for the present, and discover hope for the future.

Church leaders are committed to Crossings operating in a biblically sound and financially responsible manner and, therefore, have chosen throughout our history not to incur any long-term debt. This means new projects are undertaken only as they can be paid. We have promised to leave a legacy for future generations that is healthy and debt-free.

Faith Markers

Christian baptism is a symbolic act that represents the new life one has found in following Jesus—an outward sign of an inward change. We encourage anyone who has chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to be baptized. Because we believe baptism is a personal choice, we don’t baptize infants but wait until children are old enough to make this decision. Baptism is not required for church membership; in fact, at Crossings, anyone who has decided to follow Jesus Christ and has become involved in the life of this church is considered a member. Baptisms by immersion are held in Sunday services throughout the year. If you’re interested in being baptized, learn more and register here.

PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION

Parent/Child Dedication at Crossings is a commitment for parents. It is recognition of their solemn responsibility to raise their child in a Christian home and a church where he/she may come to know Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior. All parents interested in dedicating their children are asked to attend a one-hour class, held on a Sunday morning. Once parents have taken the class, they can have their child dedicated during any future dedication service offered. Register for a class here.

Taking communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is a time of remembering the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. The bread and the juice are symbolic reminders of the body and blood of Jesus. Communion should only be taken by those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Crossings practices open communion, which means individuals do not need to be actively attending Crossings to take communion. Every believer is invited to partake.

The School of Wesleyan Studies

John Wesley was an influential theologian and his impact continues to this day. His approach to understanding God emphasizes the role of grace and love as key components of God's character. The School of Wesleyan Studies exists to provide training and increase knowledge and application of Wesleyan Theology for professional and personal growth.

Find & Follow Jesus

Crossings is dedicated to helping people find and follow Jesus.

True transformation is only possible by following Jesus and experiencing his boundless love and forgiveness. It is our mission to create opportunities to encounter Jesus because he is the only way to salvation. He is the way, the truth, and the life.
