Embark On An Amazing Fall Foliage Tram Tour At Your Favorite State Parks In Missouri

Autumn’s rolling right along, probably a little bit too quickly for some of us. As the leaves begin their transformation from vibrant shades of green to brilliant hues of gold, red, and orange, we have a very short time to soak up the splendor of the fall foliage. Make the most of every moment by climbing aboard this fall foliage tram tour in Missouri that promises some of the best views of the season.

Go on a mid-week adventure aboard the fall foliage tram tour, slated to set off on Oct. 18-19, 2023, from Katy Trail State Park in Rocheport.

A two-hour journey from Rocheport to McBaine, the fall colors tour travels nine miles and promises an idyllic opportunity to drink in the fresh air and admire the fall foliage in the open-air tram.

While the public tours are free, Missouri State Parks will accept donations. Suggested donations are $5 for guests 13 and older and $3 for visitors 12 and younger.

As the tram meanders along the Missouri River, a seasoned tour guide will provide a riveting narrative about Katy Trail’s rich history. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap photos, too.

Registration is required due to limited space. You can register online or call 573-449-7402 on weekdays during business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you can’t make it this fall, keep an eye out next spring for the possible return of tram tours. In past years, including 2023, Missouri State Parks has hosted tram tours on select Tuesdays during the warmer months.

If you’re up for the entire journey, sit back, relax, and enjoy the five-hour, 40-minute ride to Kansas City. Catch the next train back to St. Louis, once you arrive, if you’ve only got a day, or spend the night in Kansas City.

The Missouri River Runner also stops at more than half of a dozen other Missouri cities and towns, including Independence, Sedalia, and Hermann. Pick a town to visit, hop off, explore, and then hitch the return train back at the end of the day.

When you get hungry, head over to the café, which serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Start your ride off on a sweet note with a cinnamon roll or donut holes then have a White Castle burger for lunch.

The menu features something for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans.

The train also offers wifi service and, if you need earbuds, you can purchase them and playing cards in the café.

The trip from St. Louis to Kansas City starts at around $60 one-way for coach. Business class tickets are also available.

The Gravity Bomb™ is a 200’ free-fall ride that seats up to eight riders and is the only drop ride in the world that allows riders to experience a true free-fall! The trip to the top is a gradual, one allowing for great views of Branson – so make sure to keep your eyes open! Once the bomb is released, the heart-pounding descent is a full out free-fall! The state- of-the-art magnetic braking system brings the riders to an ultra-smooth stop. This is one heart-pounding adventure that is an absolute must when in the area! You’ll want to go again and again – and don’t worry, Bigfoot will let ya!

Q: How high is the tower?

A: The Bigfoot Action Tower™ is 200 feet tall and is the tallest attraction in Branson, MO.

Q: What age do you have to be to ride the Gravity Bomb?

A: We do not have an age requirement, however riders between 42″ – 46″ must be accompanied by an adult to ride the Gravity Bomb. Riders over 46″ can ride the Gravity Bomb on their own.

Q: How fast does the Gravity Bomb drop?

A: Since our Gravity Bomb is a true free-fall experience, it depends on gravity and the number of riders per ride. The more passengers, the faster the drop!

Q: How many lights are on the tower itself?

A: We have 35,000 LED lights on our action tower!

Q: When are your free light shows?

A: We have light shows nightly every hour on the half hour from 7:30PM to 10:30PM!

Gravity Bomb Rider Requirements: 

• Riders must be at least 46″ tall to ride by themselves.
• Riders between 42″ and 46″ must be accompanied by an adult.
• Riders may not weigh more than 300 lbs.
• Loose items such as footwear, hats, sunglasses, cell phones, etc must be removed for the duration of the ride. Riders are responsible for any damage caused by falling items.
• Riders must have two legs to at least just below the knee.
• Pregnant women and anyone with heart, neck, or back conditions, or epilepsy, are advised not to ride.
• Riders must follow instructions provided by the Ride Operator. Failure to due so or engaging in any unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in expulsion from the ride and/or park, without refund.
• Riders may not throw items, spit, etc from the ride. Anyone doing so will be expelled from park without refund.
• Riders under the influence of drugs or alcohol should not ride.

If you didn't get your fill of amusement park thrills at Silver Dollar City , consider Bigfoot Fun Park, which features a variety of Bigfoot-themed attractions. There are rides, such as the Gravity Bomb, a free-fall ride that drops passengers from a height of 200 feet, a mini golf course, an arcade, a multilevel maze and a 3D movie ride.

Recent visitors said Bigfoot Fun Park is a great outing for the whole family and praised the mini golf course in particular. Reviewers also noted that you'll save a few dollars on tickets if you take advantage of the park's early bird pricing, which is available Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bigfoot Fun Park is located about 5 miles west of downtown Branson. It is open daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. There are separate tickets for each individual attraction. Mini golf tickets start at $8.95 per person, while a ticket on the Gravity Bomb ride costs $12.95 per person. Passes that include unlimited rides are also available. #1 Silver Dollar City

One of the best amusement parks in the U.S. , Silver Dollar City is a unique theme park that combines both thrilling rides and entertainment, as it embraces a down-home, late 19th-century vibe. Even while visitors scream their heads off on the newest ride, they'll still feel like they've been transported to the 1880s. Attractions like the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train, which travels through Ozarks country, and the signature Fire-In-The-Hole roller coaster, an indoor coaster that rides through "town" and across a fiery bridge, help foster the old-time feeling. With about 100 craftspeople demonstrating heritage crafts, everything from blacksmithing to taffy pulling, visitors get a lesson in 1800s life. The food at Silver Dollar City centers around down-home favorites, including buffets and skillet meals. Along with its rides and shops, Silver Dollar City is known for its shows, which range from bluegrass pickers to gospel performers to musicals.

Although Silver Dollar City is family-friendly, some say that the park is best for kids who are 36 inches or taller since there's a height requirement for most rides. Recent travelers also mentioned the hills inside the park, recommending that future visitors be prepared to walk. Some also warned that opening weekend was extremely busy with traffic and ride lines and it's best to avoid. If you don't want to purchase snacks in the park, pack your own; Silver Dollar City allows visitors to bring in food and nonalcoholic beverages.
