From massive stadium tours to intimate shows, here’s NME’s roundup of concerts set to hit Australian shores throughout 2023

Post Malone Dave Grohl Sam Smith

Australian live music fans were spoilt for choice in 2022: with borders finally reopened globally, we saw hundreds upon hundreds of artists make their way Down Under for some much-welcomed gigging. Whether they were filling out stadiums for titans like Billie Eillish and Dua Lipa , or flocking to more intimate gigs at their nearest local, Australian crowds welcomed a stellar batch of touring artists with open – and likely flailing – arms.

Heading into 2023, the touring landscape only grew more chaotic – there’s been no shortage of enormous stadium and arena tours from pop and rock icons, as well as theatre and club runs from our indie favourites. The second half of the year is positively stacked with drool-worthy gigs, from pop heavyweights like Charlie Puth  and Lizzo , to rock and punk favourites like Evanescence , Thrice and Ghost .

There really is something for everyone on the calendar, so with that in mind, NME has compiled a roundup of the biggest tours, concerts and gigs set to hit Australian shores throughout 2023.

The buzz in the crowd, the dazzling lighting pyrotechnics, the tunes echoing from the stage to the rafters: that's what huge concert tours deliver. That hasn't been the case during the pandemic, though, but thankfully the situation is about to change.

With our cities opening up again, international tours are back on the agenda for 2022 — and an impressive list of big-name acts are headed our way. Some are stopping by plenty of capitals. Others are only here for a couple of shows, so you might need to make a weekend of it. Either way, if you're never happier than when you're seeing your favourite musicians do their thing live, right in front of your eyes, we've got plenty of options for your diary.

The 20 Australian Artists to Watch in 2023

From tulmur to margeret river, covering everything from punk to electronic to folk, we’ve rounded up twenty aussie artists we think are set for a huge 2023.

Our annual ones to watch article ( here's last years ) is back to uncover some emerging gems in Australian music, who we think are on the right track to have a triumphant year ahead. With an incredibly large and talented pool to choose from, the decision was not easy… however based on their great sounds, accomplishments so far, and for some their plans that have already been announced for 2023, the Pilerats team have narrowed it down to the 20 artists that we think you should listen to right now and keep your eye on over the next 12 months.

So without further ado, feast your eyes (and ears) on The 20 Australian Artists to Watch in 2023.

Agung Mango

Bubbling up from Australia’s underground rap scene is the gritty experimental punk, jazz and alt R&B influenced sounds of rapper Agung Mango . Already appearing at Laneway Festival, Spilt Milk and Golden Plains in addition to supporting Wiki, Milan Ring, DJ Pee. Wee (Anderson .Paak), and Genesis Owusu on his national tour, 2022 saw Agung showcase at Bigsound, and release his EP Man On The Go ( read more ) - which was treated to a national tour. Kicking off 2023 strong already, supporting Freddie Gibbs on an AU wide tour, we're excited to see what’s next for this Naarm/Melbourne based rapper.

Asha Jefferies

Hailing from the Northern Rivers and raised in Meanjin/Brisbane, Asha Jefferies combines the patience of folk with the urgency of youthful pop to create meaningful, catchy, and at times melancholic songs that tell a story. Previously supporting Julia Jacklin, Thelma Plum, Babe Rainbow, in addition to her own headline nationwide tours, 2022 saw Asha entering a new phase - not only by showcasing at Bigsound ‘22 and taking out the Best Folk Award at the Queensland Music Awards 2022, but by finding her queer identity and embracing the love and expression that has come along with it. The result is the single Tank Tops ( read more ), which has sparked suspicion of more great releases in 2023 - in addition to an upcoming tour with Hope D.

Banjo Lucia

We met the sweet indie bedroom pop sounds of Walyalup/Fremantle based songstress Banjo Lucia just shy of a year ago ( read more ), making her debut in 2021 with the single That’s Not Loving , which led to a debut EP titled Peccadilloes last year ( read more ). Surrounding the EP she supported Sharon Von Etten, toured nationally alongside San Cisco, toured nationally and throughout the UK and Europe with Stella Donnely, in addition to her own West Australian headline shows, performing at Wave Rock Weekender, and showcasing at Bigsound 2022. Already accomplishing so much in such a short amount of time with her potent melodies, we can’t wait to see what lies in the year ahead for Banjo as she continues to grow her career.

Beckah Amani

From Yugambeh land on the Gold Coast comes the soulful pop sounds of Beckah Amani , an artist we had the honour of getting to know a little better last year with the release of her single Lebeka Lek ( read more ) which featured on her impressive 8-track debut EP April . Winning the triple J presented QMA award for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2021, she’s performed headline shows all along the east coast, played the Great Escape (UK), showcased at Bigsound 2022, and took out the 2022 APRA Professional Development Award for Popular Contemporary. Still revelling in the success of April, Bekah is set to kick off the year strong appearing at WOMADelaide this March.

Naarm/Melbourne-based Noongar woman Bumpy sports her own style of soul-filled pop that is incredibly warm and smooth. Debuting in 2020 with Falling , she's performed across Strawberry Fields, Melbourne Fashion Week, Melbourne Music Week (where she also curated a First Nations showcase Wominjeka), St Kilda Festival, and at Astral People’s Birthday Party last year at the Sydney Opera House. Awarded the Archie Roach Foundation Award for Emerging Talent at the Music Victoria Awards, and releasing a string of singles in 2022 - including the spine tingling Return Home ( read more ), 2023 is already off to a strong start for Bumpy, dropping her debut EP Morning Sun last week ( read more ) alongside this goose-bump evoking live clip for Leave It All Behind.

Already kicking off 2023 with a performance at Goom Fest in late January, ENOLA is primed on a trajectory for a lot more impressive milestones and releases ahead.

From a beautiful beachside town in WA’s south comes the delightful indie melodies of Kiera Jas , an artist who’s been drip feeding singles since their debut release Shadows in 2018. Receiving a lot of love for her collaboration with ASKYA for a Above Water across acoustic playlists on Spotify and YouTube, and with a nomination at the West Australian Music Song of The Year, last year saw this emerging solo-artist support Mama Kin on a state-wide tour, in addition to releasing her most recent single Bicycle ( read more ) being featured as a triple J unearthed highlight. Armed with her thoughtful songwriting and feel-good folk sounds, Kiera has already kicked off 2023 with some local shows in Margaret River, building up to her Nannup Music festival appearance next month.

Releasing their debut single Hands in 2021 - a track which received a nomination at the West Australian Music (WAM) awards last year, the outfit have continued to go from strength to strength, 2022 seeing singles Sunrise , See You Tomorrow , and Alibi receive community radio and nation wide editorial support, whilst they performed support slots with Katy Steele, Death By Denim, and Butter along the way. With a refined sound and a fast growing crowd at local shows, we can’t wait to see what’s next for LUCI in 2023.

Self-taught DJ and beat maker Memphis LK brings her DIY approach alongside pop and underground dance influences to create distinct, forward-thinking tunes that have seen her garner a huge social media presence and perform Splendour In The Grass, Listen Out, Bigsound, and national support slots for Tove Lo and Hayden James in 2022, as well as sets in New Zealand, and at Wild Lands, and Beyond The Valley festivals over the summer. Starting out 2023 with the release of her latest EP Too Much Fun ( read more ) a couple weeks ago, she’s got more fun times, and big things ahead as she joins Carly Rae Jepson on her Australian tour next month.

Having already supported the likes of Stella Donnelly, Sly Withers, Noah Dillon, Jack Davies, Supathick, plus a slot at 2021’s Hyperfest before releasing her debut single Fish In A Bowl ( read more ) last year - a track which took out the Schools 15-18 category at the 2022 WAM Song of the Year awards, indie-folk rocker Mia June sure is a force to be reckoned with. With her latest single Hungry out next Friday (Feb 10), 2023 is already looking promising for Mia as departs on a nation-wide tour supporting Stella Donnely shortly after the tracks release, squeezing in a performance at Nannup Music Festival in between.

We first met the R&B-rap-soul sounds of PRICIE with the release of her debut single too dang good in 2021 ( read more ), which has since been followed with a handful of singles featuring collaborations with the likes of Genesis Owusu, Tsebu, Palms Trax, and Dear Silas. Unveiling her impressive EP titled; IT’S PRICIE last year, in addition to performing festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, and Here Comes The Sun, and supporting the likes of Winston Surfshirt and Crooked Colours, she continues to impress an ever-growing national audience with her incredible style and sound. With 2023 well under way, PRICIE has already been nominated for the Converse Allstars campaign, and will be appearing at the Naarm/Melbourne Laneway Festival next weekend.

From Eora/Sydney comes the indie-pop-rock sounds of Salarymen, a duo who since their inception in 2019 have been winning over crowds with well crafted songwriting and compelling performances from sold-out headliner shows, to support slots with the likes of The Lazy Eyes, The Vanns, Hayley Mary (The Jezabels), The Delta Riggs and Sloan Peterson. Releasing their self-produced EP Head In The Sand last year ( read more ), a collection of songs dripping with relatable stories and irresistible sonic textures celebrated with shows in Japan and in Eora, the pair gear up for a busy year ahead with more local gigs in addition to heading over to Texas to play SXSW 2023.

Siobhan Cotchin

Alt-country sweetheart Siobhan Cotchin made her debut in 2020 with Tear Myself Apart , and has since blossomed into an award winning, national touring artists who’s shared stages with the likes of Leon Bridges, Bob Evans, Spacey Jane, Stella Donelly, The Whitlams, Thelma Plum, The Teskey Brothers. Last year saw her showcase at Bigsound, and absolutely clean up at the West Australian Music awards, taking out best Country Act, Vocalist, and Best EP for her Highways and Heartbreaks release ( read more ). Fresh off a nationwide tour, 2023 is already off to an exciting start for Siobhan - being nominated for Female Artist of the Year, Single of the year ( for Tucson), Album/EP of the year, Video Clip of the Year ( for Tucson), and Emerging Artist of the Year at the Boyup Brook Country Music Awards, in addition to a performance next weekend at the Boorloo/Perth leg of Laneway, and an upcoming support set for Boy & Bear in March.

Sunny Reyne

Emerging from Naarm/Melbourne is the jazz influenced neo-soul come alt-pop sounds of Sunny Reyne , an artist who officially debuted with her single Used To This in 2020, but made a huge splash in 2022 with what came to follow. Treating us to releases Carefully , and Insanity last year in the lead up to her warm and vibrant debut EP Right Now ( read more ), Sunny has been receiving love locally from triple J and performing at the Melbourne Int’l Jazz Festival, to receiving airplay and interview slots at JazzFM in London. Launching her EP in December, and kicking off 2023 supporting Audrey Powne, we can’t see what’s next for this talented singer-songwriter.

Wildfire Manwurrk

Family group of Arnhem Land rockers Wildfire Manwurrk burst onto the scene last year with their traditional songlines from ancient times, told through the stories they face as men in a world of culture, chaos, and change. Spreading like wildfire through catchy, hard hitting tunes, making it as a triple J featured artist in November, and appearing at Meadow festival following the release of their debut EP The Next Future ( read more ), the group gear up for a busy year ahead including a slot at Nannup Music Festival 2023 this March.

14 Artists Who Need to Tour Australia as Soon as Possible

They often say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but countless australian music fans are holding out hope for some of these musical icons., tyler jenke, tyler jenke's most recent stories.

Australia is often a major touring destination for most artists, but some of the world's biggest names seem to have an aversion to coming down under.

It’s no secret that Australians love their live music. Why, in addition to Melbourne being named the live music capital of the world , Irish icons U2 managed to pull in US $35.7 million from just eight shows in Australia last year. No matter how you slice it, that’s a testament to how much your average Aussie likes a night out with some good tunes.

But spare a thought for some of the most diehard music fans out there who never get a chance to see their favourite acts live. While Aussies never got a chance to see Canadian icons Rush during their lifetime, artists like Madonna and Paul McCartney finally ended local touring droughts of 23 and 24 years, respectively, when they both finally visited a few years back.

However, countless artists remain on the wish-lists of numerous Australian music-lovers. With some of them not visiting for a number of years or even during their entire careers, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the artists who need to add a trip down under to their itineraries, stat!

Frank Ocean

Years Since Last Tour: 7

The story of Frank Ocean’s sole trip to Australia is a bittersweet one, really. Having been named as one of the international acts on Splendour in the Grass’ 2013 lineup, the former Odd Future member was set to be one of the festival’s biggest drawcards. Releasing his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape in 2011, and sharing  Channel Orange in 2012, things were shaping up to make his Australian visit one for the ages.

Performing in Melbourne on July 25, Ocean kicked off his local tour with a headline show at Festival Hall, but “vocal issues [he] experienced during the show” meant that he was forced to seek medical attention; ultimately leading to the cancellation of his entire tour . This cancellation included a spot on the Splendour in the Grass lineup, and gave Australian fans one lone solo show to remember from his all-too brief visit.

Since then, tour dates have been sporadic at best for the critically-acclaimed musician, leading some to wonder when – if ever – he might return. Thankfully, the release of new music and an impending headline spot on the Coachella lineup indicates that maybe local fans will get another chance to catch him live sometime soon.

Oh, and remember how we said Ocean’s Aussie tour was a bittersweet one? Well, his Splendour cancellation resulted in the call-up of a steadily-rising New Zealand artist named Lorde. We’re not saying this festival appearance was what put her on the path to superstardom , but locals will forever remember seeing Lorde at Splendour before she hit the big-time.

Image of metal icons Metallica

“There are so many people choosing violence and division right now,” Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo said.

In the interest of fairness, this one should be prefaced by saying that it’s not quite Metallica’s fault that we’ve waited seven years for their return, with last year’s planned tour being cancelled due to frontman James Hetfield entering rehab.

For a band like Metallica though, it could almost be expected that it takes them a while to circle back around to country. After all, as one of the most successful metal bands in the world, it’s understandable that their legions of fans around the globe are calling for the group to headline their local stadium. However, the band’s last trek to Australia took place way back in 2013, and while we’re not bitter per se, that  was a total of four North American tours ago.

Having been out on the road on their WorldWired Tour since 2016, Metallica have been busy with close to 200 tour dates around the world. Though they’ve promised a return to Australia at some point, we’re hoping it’ll take place before a new album kicks off a brand new tour cycle.

Image of English rock outfit Radiohead, whose music has crossed paths with gaming

Years Since Last Tour: 8

While Radiohead have played hundreds of critically-acclaimed shows in countries like their native United Kingdom and even the United States, the only thing Australians are united in is a collective dismay at a lack of the band’s local gigs. Touring the country a total of four times since their formation, it took Radiohead over eight years to return after their 2004 tour, with two albums following in the meantime.

Though Thom Yorke and co. haven’t given a reason why Australia so frequently gets a raw deal with their shows, it appears they do like to try and make up for lost time when they finally return, with the group’s frontman famously playing a DJ set to a packed crowd at Sydney’s Goodgod Small Club back in 2012.

At this stage, there’s no word when you can pencil in a return visit, with drummer Philip Selway recently revealing they’d be taking 2020 off to focus on other projects. “This is kind of the year away from Radiohead, but we will pick that up again,” he explained.

Image of US metal outfit System of a Down

Frank Maddocks/Press

System of a Down

When System of a Down announced heir hiatus back in 2006, fans figured that it would just be a handful of years before the group returned to both the live stage and studio in order to resume their usual touring and recording habits. While their 2011 reformation is yet to boast new music , the group’s live return resulted in their third visit to Australia when they headlined the 2012 edition of the Soundwave Festival .

Serving as a stunning return to form for the metal titans, local fans have been left waiting for news of another tour ever since. Considering they’ve been  somewhat consistent with their touring schedule since reuniting, it’s logical to assume that live dates are set to follow at some point. However, since the’ve never done a headline tour of the country, it’s likely we’ll be waiting until Download Festival announces them as headliner in the coming years.

Janelle Monáe

Despite Janelle Monáe having risen to fame throughout much of the last decade, fans have been bumping her tracks ever since the release of her demo record,  The Audition , way back in 2003. While 2010’s The ArchAndroid brought Monáe the widespread success she so deserved, it eventually resulted in her first-ever visit to Australia back in 2012, which took place as part of the Vivid LIVE festival in Sydney.

Now, almost eight years, and one cancelled tour later , fans appear to be no closer to getting the announcement of a return appearance from the artist. With her most recent album, Dirty Computer , being released in 2018, and numerous acting roles taking place since then, it’s logical to assume she might be a bit too busy to book in an Australian tour these days. While a new set of dates being announced seems closer to a dream than a reality, at least we’ve got those amazing memories of May 2012 to tide us over.

Image of Icelandic musician Björk

Years Since Last Tour: 12

It feels as though it’s always been in Björk’s nature to reside somewhere just outside of the spotlight of mainstream publicity. Though her music has constantly been a source of praise and inspiration, her live shows have always felt as though they’re designed to be once-in-a-lifetime affairs. Though her ’90s output resulted in two tours across 1994 and 1996, fans had to wait another 12 years before Björk would return; this time sharing a Big Day Out bill alongside Rage Against The Machine.

Famously, fans at the Sydney leg of the tour found themselves somewhat hard done by, with her festival appearance being cancelled due to vocal issues suffered during a headline gig at the Sydney Opera House. Maybe this is why when Björk Digital made its world premiere at the 2016 Vivid LIVE event in Sydney, the artist actually turned up for a pair of DJ sets , and overlooked the rest of the country.

Though three studio albums have arrived since her last full visit to the country, it remains to be seen when Björk might return for a series of headline shows.

Play video

Rage Against the Machine

Just like Björk, the last time Australian fans saw Rage Against the Machine on local soil was thanks to the 2008 Big Day Out festival. Having reformed only one year earlier, many were witnessing something that they thought the might never see, while others treated their performances as the life-changing events they truly were.

Though rumours of new music never came to fruition, the eventual split around 2011 gave birth to Prophets of Rage ; a supergroup featuring three quarters of the group (minus frontman Zack de la Rocha), alongside members of Cypress Hill and Public Enemy.

Although Prophets of Rage did make an Australian appearance for the inaugural Download Festival in 2018, last year brought with it the news that Rage Against the Machine had once again reformed for a series of tour dates in 2020. However, while this impressive list of dates is slowly expanding, Australians are still left wanting in regards to when we might see the giants of political rock.

Image of US indie-rock outfit Guided by Voices

Tony Nelson/Press

Guided by Voices

Years Since Last Tour: 20

If there’s one thing that fans of Ohio indie-rockers Guided by Voices would be painfully aware of, it’s the band’s aversion to touring outside of North America and the UK. In fact, across the 37-year career, the band have barely toured outside of the US, UK, and Canada to the point where most countries boast one solitary visit from the band at some point. Such is the case of Australia, where the group toured in 2000 in support of their 11th album, Do The Collapse .

To be fair, Guided by Voices did split up in 2004, and since 2010 have been relatively consistent with their performances, meaning that the chances of them once again returning to Australia aren’t hopeless. However, with an apparent magnetic attraction to the recording studio rather than the tour bus, it’s unclear when Robert Pollard and his extensive list of collaborators might return to our shores once again.

Image of US punk outfit Rancid

Epitaph Records/Press

Years Since Last Tour: 22

For over two decades now, it’s been painfully obvious that Rancid don’t have any plans to return to Australia. A shame, really, considering that their first two visits between 1996 and 1998 not only remain a highlight of the ’90s for many punk fans, but also resulted in the romance of frontman Tim Armstrong and Australian Brody Dalle . Ultimately, their separation a few years later seemed to sour Armstrong’s view of Australia, even going so far as to label Melbourne (Dalle’s hometown) as a “tropical London” on the Rancid song of the same name.

Now, 22 years on from their last tour of Australia, fans are still wondering if the band may in fact ever return. Though new records have come forth, an apparently misguided attempt at marketing merchandise to their Aussie fans in 2016 resulted in comments stating that the band “obviously don’t give a fuck about [their] fans down here.” Though it’s doubtful that such language has enticed the band to tour here any time soon, it looks as though any hopes of catching Rancid live will involve airfare costs.

Promtional image of Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode

Years Since Last Tour: 26

When Depeche Mode released  Violator – their seventh album – in 1990, the English outfit decided to visit Australia for a two-date promo tour. Unfortunately, singer Dave Gahan strained his voice at the Sydney performance, causing the Melbourne date to be cancelled just as doors were set to open. Making it up to fans a few years later, Depeche Mode returned in support of their follow-up,  Songs of Faith and Devotion , in 1994. Since then though, it appears the group aren’t too keen on adding some more stamps to their passport.

Since 1994, Depeche Mode haven’t exactly been a prolific group (releasing just six albums), though their relentless touring schedule have seen them play shows almost everywhere around the world except Australia. Could it be it’s now been far too long for a return tour? Or could their lack of local dates be due to Martin Gore’s comments in 1994 that “Australia is where [they] are least successful”? Either way, it’s looking like fans holding out for a new Depeche Mode tour are set to be let down yet again.

Play video

Garth Brooks

His name is synonymous with country music, he’s one of the best-selling artists of all time, and he boasts an amazing 13 Grammy Awards, but one thing Garth Brooks is seemingly unable to achieve is another Australian tour. Performing down under for the first and only time in 1994 as part of his debut world tour, Brooks’ shows were a massive success, but once this international trek wrapped up, his tour dates were mainly confined to North America.

Even a stint as the Brisbane-born Chris Gaines wasn’t enough to convince Brooks to head back down to Australia. Of course, it’s not just Aussies who have been overlooked, with Brooks’ European fans not seeing him perform live since 1998 either, despite a five-date tour of Ireland being planned – and subsequently cancelled – in 2014. Currently, it seems as though Brooks has no intentions of performing outside of his native US, despite the pleas of his legions of fans.

Play video

Van Morrison

Years Since Last Tour: 35

It says a lot about an artist like Van Morrison when he’s been on the road with remarkable consistency for over 50 years. Unfortunately, the lion’s share of this touring has seen him perform predominantly in the United Kingdom and the US, with Australia’s sole exposure to his music occurring back in 1985.

Arguably one of the hardest-working musicians in the business today, Morrison’s aversion to coming down under seems to stem from the fact that Australia is so far away. In fact, Bluesfest’s Peter Noble claimed in 2014 that a friendly relationship with Morrison’s agent led to the discovery he’s effectively “wasting [his] time” attempting to lure the Northern Ireland icon down to our shores.

At 74 and with 11 tour dates under his belt this year already, it’s clear that Van Morrison has no plans on stopping touring, but if catching him live is on your bucket list, you might want to start looking at flights.

Image of US musician Tom Waits

Years Since Last Tour: 39

When Tom Waits first visited Australia back in 1979, his visit was marred by his now-iconic appearance on  The Don Lane Show which Lane famously claimed “lit up our switchboard for about an hour after the show. And not all with compliments, either.” Two years later, Waits was back, and his month-long tour was just as memorable as the first, with tracks from his 1980 record  Heartattack and Vine on full display.

Since then, it’s been radio silence for his Australian fans, with close to 39 years passing since his last visit. Of course, it’s not as if promoters haven’t been trying to get Waits back down under, with Peter Noble revealing that his frequent attempts to procure the artist had become even less likely in recent years, with the now-70-year-old performer having effectively retired from touring following his last large-scale tour in 2008.

Though he’s not retired altogether (he’s still a semi-active actor ), it’s looking less and less likely that Waits will return to Australia, and even more likely that his diehard fans may have missed their chance to catch him on stage.

Image of English musician Kate Bush

Years Since Last Tour: Never Toured

In all honesty, it’s almost amazing that anyone has managed to see Kate Bush live, really, let alone her Australian fans. Though she first rose to fame with the success of  The Kick Inside in 1978, both this record and her  Lionheart follow-up resulted in 1979’s Tour of Life; her sole live trek to date. In addition to TV performances throughout the US and Europe, these 28 shows were critically-acclaimed, but left Bush exhausted and unwillingly to take her music on the road.

Though one-off performances did follow, it was until 35 years later than fans got another chance to catch Bush performing live, with her 22-date Before the Dawn residency at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. Again, attracting critical acclaim and drawing fans from all over the world, these shows have been her last to date, and the ever-reclusive Bush has made no announcements regarding new music or further performances.

Trisha Lambi is a passionate Australian painter whose works have been exhibited internationally. She often portrays women, accompanied by delicate shadows and framed from intriguing perspectives. In her practice, Lambi likes to use her hands to blend the paint, considering that this earthy involvement with the medium contributes to the sensuality of her resulting works.

The Last Dinner Party unveil debut Australian rendezvous

Press your fanciest frills because The Last Dinner Party is coming to Australia for a feast of a tour this year.

The baroque-indie five piece from London has inked in a string of shows down the east coast in late July - a welcome rendezvous in the midst of winter's darkened depths.

The Last Dinner Party's gothic debauchery is the latest in a string of Splendour In The Grass acts who are still coming down to visit. And this particular pilgrimage serves as the band's debut Australian shows. How could we not RSVP with haste to this stunning down under debut?

Joining them on this tour de force will be Tia Gostelow in Naarm/Melbourne and Eora/Sydney. Meanwhile Meanjin/Brisbane fans will be spoiled rotten with a co-headline show with TV Girl .

If you wish to partake in this prelude to ecstasy, clear your diaries and decline all engagements for late July and procure yourself a ticket on 9am on Friday 19 April for entry to this smorgasbord of a dinner party. All of the relevant information and correspondence can be viewed on the tour's online scroll (website) .

Peruse the dinner party's dates below and get ready for a gourmand gathering you won't soon forget.

Australia Art Grand Tour: artworks on display outside buildings

Australia’s three biennials – Biennale of Sydney, Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, and newcomer PHOTO International Festival of Photography, Melbourne – have joined forces to create the country’s first Art Grand Tour across Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, teaming up with major art events to collectively present the work of over 400 artists.

The Art Grand Tour is a build-your-own art adventure that will see locals and visitors moving between the three cities. It kicked off at the end of February 2024, with the Melbourne Art Fair presenting solo shows and artist commissions from 60 of the region’s leading galleries and Indigenous art centres, and is followed by PHOTO 2024 International Festival of Photography on 1 March.

Dedicated to contemporary practice, the photography biennial is marking its third edition. Addressing the theme The Future Is Shaped by Those Who Can See It , PHOTO 2024 features a trail of 100 free exhibitions and large-scale outdoor installations across Melbourne with artists including Ryan McGinley, Cao Fei , Omar Victor Diop, Carmen Winant and Edward Burtynsky . This year, PHOTO also celebrates three icons, Nan Goldin , Malick Sidibé and Rennie Ellis.

In Melbourne, the Art Grand Tour incorporated new commissions and works by 120 artists for NGV Triennial (opened in December and running until 7 April 2024) – with Yoko Ono , Elmgreen & Dragset and Tracey Emin amongst others – as well as MPavilion 10 by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando , an architectural commission of concrete minimalist perfection in Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Gardens.

In South Australia, the 18th Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art opens concurrently on 1 March. Curated by José Da Silva and titled Inner Sanctum , the biennial showcases 24 artists and poets across exhibitions, performances and talks that explore our engagement with the world and each other. The Adelaide Biennial is part of the Adelaide Festival. Curated by artistic director Ruth Mackenzie CBE, and chief executive Kath M Mainland CBE, 2024’s Adelaide Festival features 64 events including Australian Premieres by Marina Abramović, Laurie Andersen and Víkingur Ólafsson.

The Biennale of Sydney opens to the public on 9 March and its 50th anniversary year is led by artistic directors Cosmin Costinaș and Inti Guerrero. Under the theme Ten Thousand Suns , dynamic artworks, large-scale installations and site-specific projects by 88 artists and collectives from 47 countries will be presented across a number of landmark galleries including, for the first time, at the recently restored White Bay Power Station. In association with the biennale, the Sydney Opera House will be illuminated every night after sunset with artwork projected onto its sails.

Visitors to Sydney will also be able to see the exhibition ‘Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day?’ , the artist’s largest survey to date in Australia and the first monographic exhibition staged in the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ new SANAA-designed building, Sydney Modern .

TikTok Teams With AXS to Let Artists, Venues and Festivals Sell Concert Tickets in the App

TikTok inked a partnership with ticketing provider AXS to let users of the popular video app discover and buy tickets to live events.

The feature is going live initially in the U.S., U.K., Sweden and Australia, with additional markets to follow at an undetermined date. Now, any certified artist on TikTok can use the in-app ticketing feature to promote their AXS live dates, according to the company.

TikTok has let users in the U.S. purchase live event tickets via a partnership with Ticketmaster since 2022, and last December expanded the Ticketmaster pact to encompass more than 20 new markets, including Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland and Australia.

Under the agreement with AXS, TikTok becomes an official discovery partner in the AXS Anywhere program, alongside the likes of Spotify and Bandsintown. AXS Anywhere lets venues, artists and other partners generate sales through targeted ticket offers and experiences. To use the AXS in-app ticketing feature on TikTok, eligible artists and partners can simply add their AXS event links to videos before publishing.

"TikTok's partnership with AXS allows us to connect millions of users with legendary artists, venues and festivals, and allows artists to promote their live dates and reach their audience in a whole new way," said Michael Kümmerle, global music partnership development lead at TikTok. "We are very excited to start this journey with AXS and look forward to supporting the further growth of ticketing on TikTok in the future."

AXS chief strategy officer Marc Ruxin commented, "TikTok has become one of the most important global platforms for music content attracting an incredible community of artists and fans. By combining the reach and influence of TikTok artists with AXS's global ticketing platform, the partnership will provide seamless ticket-buying access to some of the world's most iconic venues, festivals and tours. This is the perfect example of discovery-driven content and commerce for music fans!"

TikTok's pact with AXS comes amid uncertainty about the app's future availability in the U.S. Last month, the House of Representatives passed legislation by a wide margin that would outlaw TikTok in the U.S. unless Chinese parent company ByteDance divests its ownership stake (a scenario experts say is not likely). To date, the Senate has not moved forward to introduce a related measure.

OSA's 2024 Art Song Competition Final

Event description.

Join us for a captivating evening of French Art Song  performed by our talented cohort of young singers. Experience the beauty and passion of this exquisite repertoire as our rising opera stars showcase their vocal prowess and emotional depth. From the enchanting melodies of Debussy and Faure , to the dramatic storytelling of Ravel , immerse yourself in the artistry and sophistication of French musical tradition.

Art Song emerged in the 19th Century and has been a popular form of musical expression for composers and singers ever since. It is a genre of classical music that is typically composed for solo voice and piano  to express the sentiments of poetry through music. Our Scholars have been hard at work interpreting these beautiful texts - getting to the heart of the emotional truth they represent!

Our four finalists will present a short program of their choosing accompanied by Dean Sky-Lucas and Rhodri Clarke - celebrated opera singers Peter Coleman-Wright AO and Cheryl Barker AO will adjudicate. Board Member Ian Johnston and his wife Susan have generously donated a $2000 prize for our winner to further their studies and our runner up receives a French language course from the Alliance Française Melbourne. All finalists obtain a video of their program to submit for external competitions, applications and scholarships.

The performance commences at 7.30pm and will conclude when we crown our winner at 10.30pm.

Hawthorn Arts Centre - 360 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn (parking is available behind the Arts Centre via Kent St or Oxley Rd.)

This year's competition builds on the success of our 2023 effort, featuring German Art Song. Last year's winner Jesse Linke was accepted into the Melba program for 2024 (and is continuing her time with us at OSA, too)!

We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate this unique and exciting musical tradition.

TikTok partners with AXS to sell tickets for live events worldwide

australia tour artists

TikTok said today that it has partnered with ticketing company AXS to sell tickets for events worldwide. The ByteDance-owned app is introducing this feature in the U.S., U.K., Sweden and Australia at launch. Users in these regions can tap on the events highlighted in videos or on artists’ profiles to buy tickets through AXS.

TikTok had signed a similar deal with Ticketmaster for U.S.-based events in 2022 , and expanded the partnership in 2023 to sell tickets in 20 more countries .

The short-video platform said it will let certified artists promote their live events by adding AXS event links to their videos, and sell tickets via an in-app ticketing feature.

AXS also sells tickets on other entertainment services, such as Spotify and Bandsintown, through its AXS Anywhere program.

Last October, TikTok onboarded Tickets.com as a partner to sell passes for its first live music event .
