What's included?

Barcelona is everything you need in a holiday location, from its seven stunning beaches to world famous architecture and wonderfully rich Michelin star cuisine it’s a city that leaves you wanting more. Set on the coast in the north east of Spain, it is the capital of Catalonia, a region of Spain which borders on Andorra and France. The people of Barcelona are fiercely proud of their Catalonian location which makes the city a hive of activity with passionate locals who want to show tourists the best of what Catalonia has to offer.

The city was a blank canvas for Antoni Guadi, a Barcelona based architect, who created multiple monuments across the city which have made Barcelona a cornerstone of architectural modernism.

His most famous construction is the Sagrada Familia, a Roman Catholic church which remains unfinished since construction started in 1866. The awe-inspiring structure is unmissable and its shadow looms large over the streets of Barcelona with its soon to be tallest element of the church reaching over 172 metres tall.

Once you’ve basked in the beauty of Sagrada, head towards the coast and the world famous La Rambla, the city’s most famous street. La Rambla is a pedestrian heavy street running for three quarters of a mile just off the coast. Broken up into five sections, it is a bustling city which is over flowing with first class restaurants and classic Spanish cuisine. Street performers line the busy pavements and whatever time you visit you’ll be able to admire a human statue or a mind-blowing magic trick. La Rambla really epitomises Barcelona life and this one street will tell you everything you need to know about a wonderful city. Due to it being such a popular area expect a lot of fellow tourists trying to soak in the La Rambla culture.

After La Rambla why not pick up some local tapas, ranging from a couple of Euros to over a hundred. Tapas is the personification of Catalan cuisine, these bite sized goodies can be found everywhere you turn, with tapas bars on every corner, why not dive in.

Finally, after your fun filled day, finish it off in Barcelona’s exclusive nightlife. Barcelona may not be known for its nightlife, but that may just be one of its best kept secrets. Due to the vast array of different people across the city you can be sure to find a bar or club to suit you. From classy cocktail bars such as Dry Martini found in the Eixample district to dynamic nightclubs such as Universal found in Sant Gervasi, dance and drink the night away.

Not for the faint hearted, you can view the city from the top of one of the cathedral’s spires, giving you an unusual and unique view of the city below. As a building still under construction, each time you visit you’ll notice something new.

Inspired by Hansel and Gretel, the buildings are quirky and unique and almost immediately unforgettable. Unfortunately, in the early 1900s the Barcelona locals were not as enthusiastic about the design with only two of the sixty houses which were planned being built. In 1984 it was made a UNESCO World Heritage.

Located on the outskirts of Barcelona but within easy reach of the Metro, this museum is always a hit with adults and children alike. The CosmoCaixa covers such a wide variety of sciences, from electric voltage tests to seeing the evolution of our planet. Finally prepare to be amazed by the Flooded Forest, a reconstruction of an Amazonian rainforest ecosystem which is partly underwater and is full with crocodiles and other animals and plants typically found in the area.

AMUR RIVER CRUISE Khabarovsk – Komsomolsk – Nikolaevsk

You start your cruise from the capital of the Khabarovsk Territory - City of Khabarovsk. You will be picked up at the airport or at the railway station and introduced to our legendary city. We sure know what to tell you about the city’s history and its people, besides a well-known fact that Khabarovsk is a city with the bridge printed on a 5000 bill!

Around 4:00 or 5:00 pm you begin your journey down the Amur River and by late night you arrive in the center of the Nanai District, the village of Troitskoye. After spending a night on board a yacht / boat, in the morning you take a tour of the village. The natives of the village -Nanai and Ulchi - are very hospitable and always welcome guests. You will visit the local museum, ethno-cultural center, and a local family, where you will be served a delicious Nanai fish meal.

After lunch, you continue your journey and the next stop along the way is the second largest city in Khabarovsk Territory - Komsomolsk-on-Amur. A full day program will delight you.

At 6:00 pm you leave this wonderful city to move to the Ulchi village of Bogorodskoye. You arrive in the village at night, spend the night at the village;in the morning take a walk around the village and continue on your way to Tyr (100 km from Nikolaevsk) through Susanino and the Annenskye Vody Sanatorium, where you make a stop to take mineral baths and have a delicious meal. In Tyr, you will be given the opportunity to enjoy fishing from the shore or boat and making the very special Far Eastern fish soup. You spend the night in Tyr and by the end of the next day you arrive in the city of Nikolayevsk-on-Amur - a sea gate of the Khabarovsk Territory. You will enjoy a boat trip along the Amur Estuary and the stay in Nikolaevsk for one day to get acquainted with the very first city on the shores of the Sea of Okhotsk, its history, culture, native people. As a part of the program is a visit to the local fish processing enterprise with a production tour and fish tasting.

Return from Nikolaevsk to Khabarovsk is by any of the Avrora Airlines daily flights.

MODEL PROGRAM 2024 (to be corrected on your request, if necessary)

Day 1. Arrival in Khabarovsk

Arrival of the group in Khabarovsk. Meeting with the guide, transfer to the hotel.

Sightseeing tour of Khabarovsk, acquaintance with the history, important personalities and modernity of Khabarovsk. The city on three hills, a city of parks, squares and museums, has always been and remains a transport hub, from where all travel in the Far East begins. Our tour is called "The City on the five thousand banknote". We will start with the monument to the first Governor-General of Eastern Siberia, Count N.N. Muravyov – Amursky (one side of the bill) and finish in the unique museum of the Amur Bridge (the other side of the bill).

Day 2. Start of the cruise

Today, after breakfast and a short walk through Muravyov-Amursky Park, we will arrive at the river port, the crew will warmly welcome you on board and present you with their houseboat for the next 7 nights. On the embankment you can see the monument to Nikolai Pavlovich Zadornov. This writer is dearly loved by Khabarovsk residents for the novel of his life "Amur-Father". That is how the locals still call the Amur river.

At the very beginning of our journey, we will pass under the famous Amur Bridge, depicted on the 5000 banknote, and make a wish that will definitely come true! Don't forget, you started your journey from Khabarovsk! And the name of this city comes from the Old Russian "khabar", which means "luck"!

Day 3. Troitskoe, Dzhari

On this day, we will continue our journey along the Amur River. Landscapes of the endless taiga will float by, only sometimes typical wooden houses appear on the bank. In the morning, the ship arrives in the village of Troitskoye, the center of the Nanai district of the Khabarovsk Territory. Nanai people live here too. Right on the bank, the locals will greet you with the national rite of "purification by fire", then we will visit the local museum of local lore, which will bring you closer to the ancient shamanic heritage of the people. We will visit the market and the Church of the Holy Trinity. In the neighboring hospitable village of Jari, we will visit the local cultural national center, where we will enjoy national songs and dances, and the needlewomen will teach us the secrets of national embroidery. And at parting, we will try dishes of national cuisine.

After a hearty tasting of Nanai fish dishes, we will return to the ship to continue our journey along the Great Amur.

Day 4. Komsomolsk-on-Amur

On the sunny deck, you can watch how the Amur River gradually turns into a powerful wide stream. In the morning we will dock at Komsomolsk-on-Amur and walk along the beautiful embankment near the memorial complex to the city's First Builders. Today we will visit the city, which is the industrial center of the Khabarovsk Territory and visit the Expocenter of the KNAAZ Aviation Plant. And after lunch, we will find the pearl and one of the seven wonders of the Khabarovsk Territory – Lake Amut and the geological collection of the local museum, which will tell us about the geological riches of this area.

Day 5. Amursk

We invite you to the satellite city of Komsomolsk - the legendary Amursk. In half a day we will visit the delightful Botanical Garden of the city of Amursk and !Attention! A fish processing facility where we can immerse ourselves in the fish processing during the tour and buy several local kinds of fish. What could be better than a delicious souvenir?

Day 6. “Green” stop and fishing

Today we will get to the village of Nizhni Halby. Today we will set aside for a walk through the village, we will get acquainted with the culture of the Nanai people, look at the features of the national show fishing and taste delicious fish soup on the banks of the bayou in the open air.

We're going back to the ship. ..And we keep our eyes peeled all the time: maybe we'll be lucky enough to see a tiger or a bear by the river!

A special experience awaits you on the same day. The ship will sail past the bizarre rock columns of the Amur Pillars - erect humanoid rocks, each of which has its own name. Passing by Siberian oaks, larches and firs, which are reflected in the river.

Day 7. Bulava

Our unusual journey today will take us downstream to the village of Bulava. The name of the village goes back to the famous shaman who lived here. And in fact, shamanism is still widespread among indigenous peoples. During the tour of the village, you will get acquainted with the village, the museum and visit the national family, where you can buy very interesting souvenirs of the local craftsman. We will visit the Ulchi open-air museum and learn about the ancient shamanic cult and the sacred bear festival, take part in watching the performance of the children's national ensemble and participate in a master class on making national souvenirs from birch bark.

Day 8. Annensky waters

Today we will visit the “Annenskiye Vody” (Ann’s Waters) sanatorium, where we will enjoy a hot bath in the pool with natural mineral water from local springы. Those who wish can also take mud baths. For a century and a half, the healing properties of the water of the Annensky springs and the therapeutic mud of Lake Gavan, the purest air have a rejuvenating effect on the patients of the sanatorium. The traditions of sanatorium treatment, founded in 1866, will help you improve your health and gain strength.

Day 9. Tyr, Nikolaevsk-on-Amur

Today we will reach the picturesque village of Tyr. Already from the water you can see the rocks known as the "Tyr rocks". They're crossing the river. This part of the route is amazing in its splendor, be sure to take a selfie against the background of the rocks. And while walking, admire this splendor right in front of you. A red-book white-shouldered eagle can fly over you right here. Maybe you'll be lucky to take a picture with him!

Tyr is a military fort, the main attraction of which is the cannon (open-air) museum, towering high above the majestic Amur.

Nearby, the Amgun River flows into the Amur River. Tyr and Amgun are located about 100 kilometers from Nikolaevsk-on-Amur, the final point of our cruise.

After lunch on the same day, we arrive in the village of Innokentievka, a place of compact residence of the Nivkhs, another indigenous people of the Amur region.

Today, after overcoming the last leg of the way along the river, we will finish our cruise, the length of which will be almost 1400 km from Khabarovsk to Nikolaevsk-on-Amur. The Amur River in the Nikolaevsk-on-Amur region is almost two km wide and flows into the Pacific Ocean.

We say goodbye to the captain and his team! We say goodbye to meet again on the banks of the great Amur River!

Day 10. Nikolaevsk-on-Amur

After breakfast we go on a sightseeing tour of Nikolaevsk, an outpost in the Sea of Okhotsk, a city 12 years older than Khabarovsk, founded in 1846. The guide will tell you about the difficult years of development of the Far Eastern lands. We will definitely visit the richest museum of local lore in the Far East. And after that, we are welcomed at the ethnographic center of the Nivkh people (one of the 8 indigenous small peoples of the Amur region), where they will tell us about culture and folk crafts, show a concert and treat us to national dishes.

Under favorable weather conditions, we will drive to the Amur estuary in the village of Ozerpakh, where in good sunny weather you can enjoy beautiful views of the northern part of Sakhalin, watch fishermen and swim in the river.

Today we will say goodbye to Amur river. After lunch, the group takes a plane back to Khabarovsk.

Upon arrival in Khabarovsk, we check into a hotel, dinner, overnight at a hotel.

Khabarovsk: a Baltic dream in Russia's Far East

Sparkling new cathedrals blending in with fine 19th-century architecture, a thriving cultural scene, and the proximity of the taiga make the city of Khabarovsk, on the banks of the great Amur River, one of the most beautiful in Russia. There is no hint of Asia, however, in this city of 620,000, the last major stop on the Siberian railroad before Vladivostok. Although only 30 kilometers separate Khabarovsk from China, the city shares more in common with the Baltic coast, some 8,000 kilometers away.

Founded in 1858, everything from its broad tree-lined avenues, pre-Soviet-era buildings, trams, quaint cafes, squares with fountains and a buzzing riverside, is reminiscent of Europe. Khabarovsk has a laid-back Mediterranean feel in the summer, with sun-bathers thronging to the riverside beaches to work on their tans. While summers are even hotter and more humid than those in Mumbai, temperatures plunge sharply in the winters and average around minus 30 degrees Celsius. In those days, it is possible to take long walks on the frozen Amur.

The city’s Lenin Square, famous for its ornate fountains, attracts hordes of skaters, local artists and families in the evenings. In the winters, the square hosts ice sculpture festivals and one of the largest New Year trees in the region.

Khabarovsk is a perfect city to explore on foot, but it also fun to take the trams that connect the city center to many outlying areas.

Along Muravyova-Amurskovo Street, visitors can see fine brick buildings from the 19th century as well as pre-revolutionary architecture that has been carefully preserved by the proud administration of the city. The street is also home to five museums. The regional history museum is probably the best in the Russian Far East and showcases the culture of the indigenous people of the region, in addition to an excellent section dedicated to the Russian Civil War. The brick building was built in 1894 and lived to tell the tale of the brutal war between the Reds and the Whites.

While the city is proud of its Soviet past and features several monuments dedicated to the Soviet Union and its armies, there has also been a religious renaissance in Khabarovsk. Former governor Viktor Ishaev played an important role in the reconstruction of the Russian Orthodox Churches destroyed during Stalin’s purges. The imposing Uspenya Bozhey Matery (Divine Mother of God) Cathedral is one such replica, just above the riverfront. The city is home to the largest Orthodox church in the Russian Far East: the golden-domed Church of the Transfiguration, which is easily seen by visitors approaching the city by air.

A stone’s throw away from the Transfiguration Church is the majestic World War II memorial. It stands as a testament to the patriotism of the citizens of the Russian Far East, who lost their lives in the war against Nazi Germany, thousands of kilometres away from their hometown.

Most of the city’s attractions are close to the river, including a central park that stretches for about 1.5 kilometres to a hilltop that features the best views of the city. The city owes its existence to Count Nikolai Muravyov-Amurskiy, and there is a large statue of the founder, who was also the governor-general of Eastern Siberia. The area around the statue is a favorite spot for couples, and when it comes to romantic settings, very few places in the country can match the sight of a full moon over the Amur River, reflecting on the golden domes of a nearby cathedral.

The riverbank is buzzing with activity, and has several cafes and restaurants with live rock bands that often perform late into the night. There are also several hydrofoil services for those that want to cruise the Amur. A 90-minute cruise is a wonderful way to observe the illuminated riverside architecture at night, but there are longer cruises north to the cities of Komsomolsk-na-Amure and Nikolayevsk-na-Amure. These cruises are a great way to explore some of the most stunning and sparsely populated areas in all of Russia.

The Great Outdoors

No trip to Khabarovsk is complete without a picnic in the forests near the city. Many residents of the city have summer cottages in an area called Voronezh-1, an ideal place for a barbeque, beer and folk music. There are several forest trails in the area, which is strikingly beautiful in the autumn.

However, those seeking adventure head straight for Peak Heksir, which is only about 970 metres above sea level but is a difficult trek through thick forests. The great Ussuriskaya Taiga begins in this forest, which is home to the Amur Tigers, the largest tigers in the world. The tigers have the advantage of camouflage in the fall, but can be spotted in the winter, when blankets of snow envelop the mountain range. The forests are also inhabited by the Amur leopards, who are incredibly difficult to spot.

The path to Heksir offers splendid views of Khabarovsk and the domes of the city’s cathedrals are visible from the peak. But the makin reason for a hike to Heksir is the view of the Russia-China border. This last stretch of Russian territory is at the intersection of the Amur and the Ussuri rivers. Although all that is visible of China is a stretch of forest, special permission must be arranged to climb the peak, as it is located in a politically sensitive area.

Khabarovsk is also close to the isolated Shantar Archipelago, a string of islands that are only accessible in the non-winter months. This group of 15 islands in the Sea of Okhotsk are famous for their rocky cliffs and spruce forests. The archipelago is a wildlife lover’s paradise in the summer. You can spot bearded seals, bowhead whales and endangered western grey whales. Bears are aplenty in the islands, but unfortunately, each summer, there are reports of campers getting killed by bears. Wildlife experts attribute many of these cases to reckless behavior on the part of tourists from cities. The islands are accessible by helicopter from Khabarovsk as well as via fishing trawlers that make the most of the four months a year they have before the ice flows merge the archipelago with the mainland.

New MedCruise report captures key data on cruising in Mediterranean
Of all the cruise lines, MSC Cruises (25.5%), Costa Cruises (15.2%), Norwegian Cruise Line (7.1%) and Royal Caribbean International (7%) will frequent the Mediterranean the most in 2024. The average number of cruise passengers per call was 2,263 for MedCruise ports last year - a slight decrease from 2019 when the figure was 2,291.
