Katerina 3 Island Cruise - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (2024)
Kristina Cruises
Kristina Cruises (previously Rannikkolinjat ) is a Finnish family-owned shipping company with over fifty years of experience in cruise business. The company was founded in 1985 and registered in Kotka . In addition to the five destinations in the early days of business they currently sail to more than 70 ports. Summer destinations traditionally include several ports of the Baltic Sea , Norwegian fjords and other cities in Northern Europe. In the autumn the ship usually sails in the Mediterranean , where one week cruises to many different destinations are arranged. During winter seasons their ships have sailed in Canary Islands and east coast of Africa.
They used to operate two ships, Kristina Regina (1960) made foreign cruises, often cruising in the Mediterranean Sea and other warm destinations. The second ship, Kristina Brahe (1943) was used for cruises within the lakes and coast of Finland . These ships begun to show their age and did not meet the new regulations and have now been sold. MS Kristina Katarina , originally built in 1982 as M/S Konstantin Simonov, was the latest ship.
In 2013 the company faced financial difficulties forcing Kristina Cruises to lay up its 1982-built Katarina cruise ship for the winter and cancel the season, the company today has sold the vessel to FleetProOcean.
All 2014 plans are cancelled and the company is said to be concentrating on selling cruises on other ships as a tour operator.

Kristina Cruises was a Finnish family-owned shipping company with over forty years of experience in cruise business. Several decades in passenger service had created a company which operated successfully on the domestic as well as foreign cruise markets. Kristina Cruises (then known as Rannikkolinjat) was founded in 1985. The company was registered in Kotka. In the same year the company acquired the possession of its first passenger ship Kristina Brahe from Fagerlines Ltd., which had operated the vessel mostly in the Lake Saimaa area. Two years later the company bought the s/s Bore which became the Kristina Regina. She underwent a major refurbishment in 2000. The company operated cruises mostly in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. On 7th of June, 1996 Kristina Cruises Ltd. was granted the ISM Certificate, which guaranteed a carefully supervised safety organization. Its efficiency was regularly controlled by the Finnish Maritime Administration. The company's two cruise ships, the m/s Kristina Regina and the m/s Kristina Brahe sailed under the Finnish flag with completely Finnish crew.
These ships begun to show their age and did not meet the new regulations and have now been sold. MS Kristina Katarina, originally built in 1982 as M/S Konstantin Simonov, was the latest ship. In 2019 the company faced financial difficulties forcing Kristina Cruises to lay up its 1982-built Katarina cruise ship for the winter and cancel the season, the company today has sold the vessel to FleetProOcean. All 2014 plans were cancelled and the company is said to be concentrating on selling cruises on other ships as a tour operator.

APT AmaKristina boat is among company's newest river cruise ships of the modified Concerto-class, with sisterships AmaLea (2018), AmaLucia (2021), AmaMora (2019), AmaSiena (2020), AmaStella (2016), AmaViola (2016). This is a new APT riverboat design featuring the "Twin Balcony" stateroom concept. It combines the traditional French Balcony with a second (covered, step-out) open-air verandah for all-weather use. Each of these riverboats is powered by two "Caterpillar" marine diesel engines (model "C32 DITA ACERT" V-12, total power output 1900 kW / 2550 HP).
AmaWaterways' 20th riverboat was christened on May 10, 2017, in Lahnstein. The boat’s godmother is Mrs Kristin Karst - AmaWaterways company's Co-Owner and Executive Vice President. The naming ceremony coincided with the company's 15th-anniversary year.
Vessel's construction (hull and superstructure, ENI number 07002053) was done at the Vahali Shipyard in Zasavica (Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia). The 1923-founded Dutch shipbuilding company (Scheepswerf En Machinefabriek Vahali BV) owns and operates yards in Serbia ( Belgrade , and Zasavica) and in Holland (Gendt). Vahali Shipyard Zasavica was officially opened in 2013. Following the construction in Serbia, the AmaKristina ship was towed to Holland for final outfitting at Scheepswerf Vahali (Gendt).
All AMAwaterways ships provide complimentary bicycles (stored on the boat's sundeck) on shore excursions/tours in each port along the cruise itineraries.

Trip of a lifetime
The highlight of the trip was definitely the crew who were always ready and happy to help even though it was the last trip of the season and they must have been tired by then. Big shout out to Ivan who helped me off board at 5am while everyone was asleep and never seemed to stop. The places we anchored to swim and the ports we moored were just so breathtaking. Our tour manager Stan was a lot of fun and very knowledgable. There are only 20 or so guests onboard and we all had a lot of fun together even catching up for dinners off the boat. I was a lone traveller but was always in great company. This trip exceeded my expectations and I hope to be able to do it again.

This was my 2nd Katrina trip and I can't wait to do it again.
Food, visiting the ports. I got sick while I was on this trip witha cold, and the crew was beyond kind and attentive. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you so much to all your care.
Fun, relaxing cruise
Swimming in beautiful coves Stopping in ports with few tourists Delicious vegetarian food Appreciated the fact that all guests were similar age…no frat parties!
You get what you paid for
The cabin was small. The air conditioner dripped water. There was no internet in the room. There was no awning on the top deck. The guide was great. The food was good and plentiful. We recommend a higher end cruise on a newer boat.
Great itinerary. Staff were excellent
