Top 10 Restaurants in Monastir

You can have all of the sandy beaches and fancy cocktails that your heart desires, but something that practically all holidaymakers demand these days is a good supply of restaurants.

Most tourist hotspots have a wealth of them, and Monastir is no different . Whether you are a seasoned local or one of the latest visitors to Tunisia, this is a region which is awash with restaurants that blow most of the competition out of the water. Here, we take a look at our favourite ten.

As the name suggests, this is an establishment which acts as a bar as well as a restaurant. It’s officially regarded as providing Tunisian cuisine, although the fact that many British visitors pop in and grab a bacon butty’ says everything you need to know about its versatility. It provides a great array of food and drink, while many visitors enjoy the vibrant atmosphere which is engaging to say the least. In relation to the latter, any sports fans will immediately fall in love with Ali Bar with the establishment having countless televisions to showcase the latest action.

Salsa Posada

This can probably be described as your typical Tunisian restaurant (even if it specialises in Mexican cuisine!). While it doesn’t look overly enticing from the outside, once you do take the plunge to go inside you won’t be disappointed. It’s seen as one of the friendliest restaurants around and the food is of impeccable quality, as well as being very easy on the wallet.

Marina the Captain

While the name sounds quite ‘touristy’, Marina the Captain is actually very popular with locals as well as foreign visitors. Its speciality is international cuisine although if we were to hone in on a specific section of the menu, the fish is thoroughly recommended. It’s a little more rowdy than some of the other restaurants on the list, but unless you are looking for a quiet evening you will not be disappointed with this pick.

The fact that you have to call up to two days in advance highlights just how popular this restaurant has become. For the seafood fans out there, it’s a definite winner and is regarded as one of the best facilities of its kind in Monastir. Le Pirate also often puts on live shows during the evenings and this just makes the whole experience even more exuberating but more importantly, tasty.

This is another restaurant that is popular with the locals as well as tourists – both at lunchtime and in the evening. The food is once again regarded as excellent, although there is far more to Dar Chakra as well. Many visitors often compliment the quiet outside terrace which can make your meal utterly tranquil, while even the locals can’t believe the prices which are exceptionally low to say the least.

Restaurant La Plage

Restaurant La Plage might be classed as a restaurant which mainly dabbles in Tunisian cuisine, but on the whole its reputation is based upon fresh fish and seafood. Some have classed this as the best restaurant in Monastir, while the views that surround the facility are panoramic to say the least. In relation to the latter, La Plage looks directly onto the sea making any meal you have completely picturesque.

Safari Centre

As one might assume by the name, the Safari Centre isn’t merely classed as a restaurant. Instead, it’s the perfect place for an evening’s worth of entertainment. Armed with a nightclub, steak house, gift shop, multiple coffee bars and even a supermarket, you can comfortably kill a night off in this place. Whatever restaurant you opt for you’ll be guaranteed a scrumptious meal, with this regarded as one of the premier destinations for any tourist that visits Monastir.

Alhambra combines Tunisian and European cuisine and gets the recipe spot on. Whatever dish you select, the food is seen as some of the best around and the portions are absolutely gigantic. To add to the plus points, this is a facility which also prides itself on exceptionally cheap meals and visitors won’t have spent an arm and a leg when they eventually leave. If there was to be a downside it would be in relation to the drinks menu, with Alhambra being one of the few restaurants that does not serve alcohol.

Ristorante da Piero

For those that want a taste of Italy in Monastir, the Ristorante da Piero could be a very good option. It’s not just any old food served here either; it’s your typical, hearty Italian cuisine that is usually only found in its home country. However, while the pizza and pasta usually grab all of the headlines, we should also make a case for the deserts that are served up in this restaurant. They are of some of the best you will ever taste and are worth visiting Ristorante da Piero alone for.

The final restaurant on our list is Soprano and once again, it’s not uncommon to find both locals and tourists donning this establishment. Its main speciality is pizza and this is probably the reason why it has sought such a superb reputation amongst the local student population. Following on from the last sentence, one will not be surprised to hear that Soprano is another exceptionally cheap establishment and one that will ultimately leave plenty of change in your pocket.

I stopped in while working in the area. Had the Yak Burger with pepper jack cheese and fries. I was worried that the Yak may be gamey tasting, but the burger was well seasoned and not gamey at all. Service was good and was happy with my experience. Definitely recommend the Yak Burger.

We happened to be visiting family and this great Grill was in the right spot for everyone. The menu here is really varied with nice assortment of flavors. Check it out on line!! Two of our party had the ground beef steak, both said it was juicy and the potatoes were yummy. Two of us had the taco salad. It too was very good. The chili and the loaded potato skins are tasty too! Our server was delightful and friendly. We stayed longer than the normal lunch crowd, and the chef gave us tastes of upcoming menu specials... very yummy. ( don't want to spoil the surprise) The inside of the location is full of beautiful taxidermy animals. Very clean restaurant . Highly recommend a visit.

Ribeye Steak Sandwich was perfectly cooked and very tender. Thinly sliced piece of Ribeye had great seasoning along with Pepper Jack cheese I chose. The soft roll it was o. made for a great lunch. Oh, let's not forget the hot French fries. My wife ordered the Chislic which is made from Sirloin Tips was tender even though it was cooked well done which is hard to find. All in all a great first experience and a longing to try all the other dishes which kept coming out and folks were enjoying them with a smile.

Habanero cheese curds were very good. We split the margarita flat bread and it was enough to share. Service was amazing. Has patio.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to try any food, because our reservation was not honored. A group was sitting at the table we had reserved, we asked to be seated at another table and they wouldn't. We had concert tickets, so when it got to the point we couldn't wait anymore, we left. Overheard that the group at our table was going to same concert (so pretty sure they sat there until concert time). We were a party of 10, so couldn't get in anywhere else. Poorly managed!

The food was great and fun atmosphere. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area. Our server was super sweet and on her game

i eat here often both take out and dine in. Food is great, love their wings!! cheeseballs are awesome as are their steaks!! The baby baked potatoes are delicious, Once in awhile the service can be slow but it is expected during these times and the servers are always nice!! Give it a try you will not be disappointed!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the Sioux Falls area. They get super busy sometimes but that is a good sign. They have take out so we do that often but my experiences during dining in for lunches and dinners have almost always been great experiences. Great food. Friendly workers. Their specials are great also if your a bargain hunter.

Most of the food is pretty good but I've eaten there twice this last week, the first was boneless wings with tooth chipping coating, the second time was Safari burger without any juice, dry and tasteless. I smothered it with mustard and catsup. I would have sent it back but I know better, chance's are you food will get the "special treatment". Very disapointing.

My parents took me and my 2 boys here on Friday night, and when we asked for a refill on the boys drinks we found a black hair in their cups, and our waitress had black hair... And what are the odds finding a black hair in 2 cups??? Other than that- food was good. Can't complain about that at all. But the service was a little slow, (as expected with full seats) my kids loved the animals on the walls. And their food was good. My youngest ordered the pizza, and it was bland, not good at all. He had one bite out of it, and reordered the mini corndogs, and ate it all. I had the cheese balls of course they were good.
