So “go to” has to be followed by an object/place. “travel” is a verb. So “go to travel” is not grammatically correct. Examples: “go to Japan” “go to my house” “go to the market” Since “travel” is a verb, you can replace “go” with “travel”. Examples: “travel to China” “travel to America” “travel to the moon” go to トラベル・キャンペーン here, “go to” is the name of the travel campaign. it doesn’t mean “go to travel” is the right grammar. The exception is that if you use “travel” as a noun and say “travels”. then you can say “go on travels”. But this use is more poetic and for literature than for conversation. Example: “He likes to go on travels to many different countries”. I hope this is clear! Let me know if you have questions ☺️

One more thing: you can say “go travel to” examples: “i’ll go travel to his house” “i want to go travel to iceland” and you can take out “to” if you don’t want to say an object/place. examples: “i’ll go travel/traveling” “i want to go travel”.

Is it ‘traveling’ or ‘travelling’?

What to Know When it comes to spelling the forms of the verb travel , traveled and traveling are more common in the US, and travelled and travelling are dominant everywhere else.

Spelling is typically clear-cut in modern English: forty unfailingly betrays four ; the sweet treat after dinner is spelled dessert , not desert .

But some words have two forms that appear often enough in edited text to make it clear that something else is going on. And so it is with forms of the verb travel : traveled and travelled , and traveling and travelling .

It might have a different spelling wherever you're going.

One or Two L 's?

If you look at where the single l forms originate and where the double l forms originate a pattern emerges: in the United States, traveled and traveling predominate, and everywhere else travelled and travelling are preferred.

The reason mostly comes down to one man we at Merriam-Webster hold especially dear: Noah Webster. Our lexicographical father (brothers George and Charles Merriam bought the rights to Noah Webster’s 1841 dictionary after Webster died) was a great believer in spelling reform and wanted English spelling to make more sense—and if the English of his homeland had more logic to it than its British parent, so much the better. He decided that travel needed only one l in its past and present participle forms.

Webster’s logic is the reason behind the spelling of canceled and cancelled as well: in the U.S., they have just one l , but elsewhere two l ’s are the norm.

American English Words that Use 2 L 's

Webster didn’t think all double l ’s needed to be reduced to one, however: in cases in which the accent, or emphasis, is on the syllable with the l , two l ’s are preserved: expelled and expelling ; controlled and controlling ; patrolled and patrolling .

Traveling or travelling?

The verb travel , which is to “go from one place to another, especially over a long distance”, uses different spellings based on UK English and US English:

• British English spells “ travelling ” with the double “L”.
• American English spells “ traveling ” with one “L”.

The same goes with other verb forms of “travel” in the past tense i.e., traveled and travelled ; or as a noun, traveler and traveller .

‘Go To Travel’ explained

Part of a larger "Go To" campaign intended to restart the Japanese economy following the damage caused by the coronavirus , Go To Travel is a campaign by the national government that offers big discounts on travel inside Japan. Only residents of Japan (including foreign residents) are eligible to take advantage of the campaign.

What is Go To Travel?

• A 35 percent discount on the total cost and
• Coupons worth 15 percent of the total cost to be spent on other travel expenses during the trip

Is there an upper limit?

Yes, there is. The maximum discount that can be received for overnight trips is 13,000 yen per person and night, while the maximum amount of coupons that can be received is 7,000 yen per person and night. In other words, the upper limit applies to travel plans that cost more than 40,000 yen per person and night.

In case of daytrips , the travelers can receive a discount of up to 7,000 yen and coupons of up to 3,000 yen per trip.

Note that children are counted the same as adults. For example, a family of four with two kids can receive a discount of up to 52,000 yen (4 x 13,000 yen) and coupons of up to 28,000 yen (4 x 7,000 yen) on an overnight trip, even if the kids stay for free.

Furthermore, note that only up to seven nights per trip are covered by the campaign. On trips that are longer than eight days, travelers will not be able to profit from the campaign from the 8th night. Note that there is no limit on how many trips can be made during the campaign.

Who is eligible?

All residents of Japan, including foreign residents.

Can temporary visitors to Japan use the campaign?

No, only residents of Japan are eligible.

How long does the campaign last?

The campaign started in late July 2020, but was suspended in December 2020 due to rising coronavirus infection numbers. It is expected to resume once the infection numbers have decreased and continue until at least summer 2021.

Are there any other conditions for participating?

Yes, all participating travelers are requested to follow the "new travel etiquette" with regards to preventing the spread of the coronavirus on their trips. Please visit our page about coronavirus manners for more details.

What is covered?

• Overnight stays at registered lodgings
• Travel plans purchased through registered travel agents

A large majority of hotels and travel agents across the country are registered. Lists of registered businesses are available on the campaign's official website .

Are all regions of Japan covered?

All regions of Japan are covered by the campaign. There is a possibility for some areas to be temporarily excluded from the campaign depending on the spread of the virus.

Does the campaign also apply to transportation, activities, meals and shopping?

The discount applies only if they are part of a travel plan. For example, the discount cannot be applied to regular purchases of flights or rental cars ; however, it does apply if a flight or rental car is part of a travel package sold through a registered travel agent. Likewise, if an activity or meal is part of the travel package, the campaign applies.

What type of daytrips are eligible?

The campaign applies only to daytrip travel packages sold by registered travel agents. The packages have to include 1) transport starting and ending at the same place on the same day and 2) at least some form of travel service besides transport in the destination area, e.g. meals or activities. For example, it does not cover 1-day bus tours that do not include any activities at the destination.

There is no limit on how many trips you can make during the campaign period. However, there is a limit of seven nights per trip that can be covered, meaning that those traveling for more than eight days are not able to profit from the campaign from the 8th night.

How can I use it?

There are mainly two ways to profit from the campaign:

• Book a stay at a registered hotel through the hotel, a travel agent or a reservation website that participates in the campaign.
• Purchase a travel package through a registered travel agent.

At the time of your booking, you pay 65% of the total cost for the accommodation or package, while the 15% in coupons will be issued to you by the travel agent or hotel.

A list of registered hotels and travel agents can be found in Japanese on the campaign's official website . Many hotel reservation websites are also participating in the Go To Travel campaign, including Booking.com and Agoda .

How do I use the coupons?

Coupons can be used to make payments at registered stores and restaurants and for transportation and other travel services in the prefecture visited and surrounding prefectures during the day(s) of your trip. They cannot be refunded. A map showing registered businesses can be found on the campaign's official website .

Instead of saying "I go to work by bus/car", can we also say "I travel to work by bus/car"? Does this alternative sound okay? Or it sounds unusual? Please help, thank you.  

Yes,it sounds fine.  

One could use either but normally travel suggests that the journey is longer or more difficult. If I drove 50 kilometres to get to work or rode a bike 30 kilometres then I might say I travel. If I work just round the corner and get there on foot the I would say I go.

Google reveals where Americans are looking to travel for the holidays

With the summer travel season now over, many Americans may be turning their attention toward planning a trip around the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays. New data from Google reveals where exactly Americans want to go.

Among the top-searched destinations for the week of Thanksgiving, Orlando ranks No. 1, ahead of Cancun, New York and Tokyo.

When's the best time to book a flight?

Generally, the lowest price to book flights comes around 38 days before departure for domestic flights and 101 days before departure for international trips.

For domestic trips, the lowest price can pop up anytime between 21 and 52 days between takeoff. Generally, prices for international flights start to rise within 50 days of departure.

But holiday travel might require you to book more in advance to get the best price. Normally, the best time to buy Thanksgiving flights comes around 45 days before departure, which would be in early October.

You might also want to consider booking Christmas flights in October. Typically, the lowest price for domestic Christmas flights comes 58 days ahead of time, which would come in late December.

The cheapest days of the week to fly are generally Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, Google says. Domestics flights on these days are usually 13% cheaper than on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The savings for booking on these days for international flights is about 20%, Google says.

Do not travel to North Korea due to  the continuing serious risk of arrest and long-term detention of U.S. nationals.  Exercise increased caution to North Korea due to  the critical threat of wrongful detention.

The U.S. government is unable to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in North Korea as it does not have diplomatic or consular relations with North Korea. Sweden serves as the protecting power for the United States in North Korea, providing limited emergency services. The North Korean government routinely delays or denies Swedish officials access to detained U.S. citizens.

Plan to fly next year? You'll finally need Real ID to do it and the deadline is coming

Have plans to get away next summer? Well, you won't be able to get off the ground unless your identification documents have the Real ID stamp of approval.

The Department of Homeland Security set an official deadline for Real IDs back in May, urging all travelers interested in domestic travel in 2025 and beyond to make sure that any state-issued identification cards, or driver's licenses have a Real ID seal.

The Real ID deadline might be eight months away, but it's not too early to head over to your local MVD or DMV to make sure you are set to fly free and clear across the country by May 7, 2025.

Any state issued identification document without the federal seal fails to adhere to the "minimum security standards" set by The Real ID Act of 2005, preventing you from accessing a federal facility or flying domestically.

The law was originally set to take effect in 2020 but was pushed back until May 2025 over "backlogged transactions" at Motor Vehicle Division offices nationwide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, USA TODAY  reported .

The mountains of paperwork, according to DHS, impacted agencies' ability to make any real progress on the Real ID rollout. But this time, the deadline is really real.

That means federal agencies, including Transportation Security Administration, will not be able to accept driver’s licenses and identification cards that are not Real ID compliant, according to DHS.

Here's what to know.

When does Real ID go into effect?

Any traveler over the age of 18 that does not have another TSA-approved form of identification to fly domestically must have a Real ID compliant identification card or driver's license by May 7, 2025. If you already have another TSA-approved form of identification, then you probably don't need a Real ID.

Other TSA-approved alternatives include:

• State issued enhanced driver’s license
•  DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
• U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
• Border crossing card
• An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe
•  HSPD-12 PIV card
• Foreign government-issued passport
•  Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
• Transportation worker identification credential
• U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
• U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
•  Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

Where can I get a Real ID?

You can obtain a Real ID driver's license or identification card from your local MVD or DMV. It takes about two weeks , or 15 business days to get your Real ID or Enhanced Driver’s License from your state's Motor Vehicle Department.

All Real IDs will have a stamp on the right-hand corner to show that it is federally compliant. The symbol stamped on your Real ID card will vary, depending on which state you obtain your new identification card from. 

Enhanced IDs, which are only issued in a couple of states, including Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Vermont, are considered acceptable alternatives to REAL ID-compliant cards, DHS says.

What are the Real ID requirements?

You will have to visit your state’s driver’s licensing agency website to find out what documentation you will need to provide to obtain a REAL ID, according to DHS .

But, at a minimum, you need to provide documentation with:

• Full legal name
• Date of birth
• Social security number
• Proof of principal residence
• Lawful status

Individual states, according to DHS, may impose additional requirements.

People on Universal Credit face tough new rules if they are going abroad. The Department for Work and Pensions has set up far more detailed reporting options for claimants to declare they want to travel outside the country.

Latest figures show there are now seven million people on Universal Credit in the UK, with 2.7 million signed off from working for health reasons, 2.2 million in employment and the rest either looking for a job or planning to go back to work in the near future. In Birmingham , which is the local authority area with the highest number of people on Universal Credit, there are 202,475 claimants, of whom 61,473 (30.4 per cent) are working and the remaining 141,004 (69.6 per cent) are not in employment.

It has always been the case that Universal Credit claimants are allowed to go overseas for up to one month and must tell the DWP before they go. If they are in an 'intensive work search' group and are required to look for a job for a specified number of hours a week, then this must continue even while they are away, the DWP previously explained.

But additional rules have now been added to Universal Credit accounts to make this process far more strict and formal. Several members of BirminghamLive's Cost of Living Facebook group have mentioned the new system.

Under the options in a claimant's online account for declaring changes that could affect their benefits, it now includes 'Going outside Great Britain (GB)?'. It's worth noting that Great Britain includes the mainland nations of England, Scotland and Wales, meaning a trip to neighbouring Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland would also need to be declared.

Some claimants who have logged into their Universal Credit online account say they have received a notification of the updated rules which states: "Tell us about any visits outside GB by accessing your Universal Credit account to report a change for: Going outside Great Britain (GB). This includes any past, present or future visits.

"You must tell us if you: are going outside Great Britain (GB) within the next 30 days; have gone outside GB since your claim started; or are currently outside GB. You will need to provide: the reason for going abroad; dates; and country."

What this makes clear is that claimants must give the reason for travel and also disclose any trips they've made outside Britain since they first started claiming the benefit. Welfare experts said the new rules were added to online accounts at the end of July.

Some advisors pointed out that the Universal Credit travel rules are still very generous, as there are no limits on the number of travel periods of up to one month that are allowed each year - as long as people are back in Britain for at least a month so they still qualify for a Universal Credit claim. Others have suggested this should be tightened up so it is better aligned with employment leave entitlements, which are usually about 28 days in total per year.

What do Government rules say about travelling while claiming Universal Credit?

Guidance on GOV.UK confirms that if you go abroad, you can typically continue to get Universal Credit for one month. You must be eligible for Universal Credit at the time you go, continue to be eligible while you are away, and tell your work coach you are travelling. If a close relative dies while you are overseas and it wouldn't be reasonable to expect you to come back within the usual one-month timeframe, you can ask for approval to continue getting Universal Credit for an additional month.

Claimants can carry on getting Universal Credit for up to six months if they go overseas for medical treatment, for a period of recovery that's been agreed by a healthcare professional (known as approved convalescence), or if their partner or child is going abroad for treatment or recuperation and they will be going with them.

The guidance adds that people who are being posted overseas for work duties, such as soldiers and diplomats, may be able to claim or keep getting Universal Credit if the UK was their main home before they went away. In addition, mariners and continental shelf workers can keep getting Universal Credit for up to six months while they are off the mainland.

Passengers planning to travel the world on a three-year cruise are speaking out as they remain stuck on land, waiting for their ship to depart.

Holly Hennessy said she has been stuck in Belfast, Ireland, for three months as she and her fellow passengers wait for the cruise ship, the Villa Vie Odyssey, to be repaired.

"It's cold. It's windy. It's damp. It usually rains," Hennessy told " Good Morning America ," describing the past three months in Belfast. "I've been moved five times to different accommodations."

Johan Bodin and his partner Lanette Canen have spent the past three months traveling around Europe as they wait for the ship to depart from Belfast. The couple relocated from Maui, Hawaii, to spend the next several years on the Villa Vie Odyssey, according to their website, where they post travel content.

"We intend to stay on for a long haul, but who knows how we feel after a year," Bodin told "GMA."

Bodin and other passengers on the Villa Vie Odyssey, operated by Villa Vie Residences, have been waiting since May for the cruise to depart.

Mikael Petterson, the founder and CEO of Villa Vie Residences, told "GMA" the Villa Vie Odyssey is a 30-year-old ship. He said the ship made the trip to Belfast on its own power before other maintenance issues were discovered.

"The rudder stocks took six weeks to get done, and now we're dealing with a couple of other things," Petterson said. "But overall, I think three months is actually not that bad given the circumstances."

Petterson added that the ship's repairs are in their final stages, and said he expects the ship to depart the week of Sept. 9.

The cruise is advertised to visit 475 destinations in 147 countries. The price to purchase an all-inclusive cabin starts at around $100,000, with an additional monthly fee for at least 15 years.

While the Villa Vie Odyssey has been out of commission, passengers are allowed on the ship during the day but cannot stay overnight, staying in hotel rooms in Belfast instead.
