Full Day Fishing Charter

For those where half a day just won’t do, we offer a serious upgrade with great value. Over the course of the day you will fish many different locations in and around the Darwin harbour. Lunch is provided at the Fusion Restaurant. On offer complimentary souvenir stubby cooler.

Half Day Barra Fishing Charter

$220 per person

Our second most popular package! Catch the iconic Territory Barra. Season three of Million Dollar Fish is just about to start and last year 50% of the prized fish were caught in Darwin Harbour. You have to be in it to win it!

Fun Family Fishing Charter

Your Catch = Your Lunch at Fusion Restaurant

On our Full Day Charters lunch are available at Fusion on the Wharf. They cook up your catch any way you want either fried, battered or grilled and serve it with fresh salad and chips or Thailand Flavor.

For all Half Day Charters, the chef at Fusion is happy to cook up your catch for $15.00 per person – This is great if you don’t have the means to cook your catch at home.

They are licensed so you can have a beer or treat yourself to one of their cocktails.

Fusion on the Wharf is located in the Starboard Arcade on Stokes Hill Wharf. Its open 7 days for lunch and dinner in a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Barramundi fishing Charters Darwin!

Welcome to the top end.

Always wanted to get to the Top End to reel in a barra! “Experience the Experience” with Reel Screamin Barra Fishing.  With over 20 years operating in the Top End, we offer a range of charters. Half-day , full-day , extended and multi-day Barra charters are offered throughout the year.

Depending on the time of year you head up, you will be either trolling a billabong among the wildlife or casting the mud flats or coastal creek or estuary.

The Barra Fishing

You can chase metre barra in the runoff or buildup in one of the coastal creeks or river mouths. Extended charters are generally run through these times as this gives you the best opportunity to get out on the water without wasting precious fishing time. During the buildup, we run both day and extended charters.

If you are up here during the dry season you can get out on the billabong to troll or cast the lilies as you watch the scenery as you go by. .  Not only will you chase Barramundi you will have a personalised wildlife tour of the billabong.  You will be able to get up close and personal with crocodiles sunning themselves along the banks, watch jabiru and whistling ducks feeding as you cruise the billabong, and see eagles and kytes soaring the sky above.

The wet season can offer good fishing as well in between the monsoons. The storms are generally early in the morning and after 3 pm gives you plenty of time to get out and chase a barra.

Whether you are a seasoned angler or just want to tick off catching a barra off your bucket list, your guide will teach you the art of barra fishing, or give you some tips on what works up here. Our small group charters (Up to 4 per boat) ensure you get one-on-one tuition and advice throughout the day.

What species of fish are we likely to catch.

The Top End has a huge range of quality reef fish including Black Jew fish, Coral Trout, Cod, Golden Snapper, Cobia, Mackerel, Travally, Tuna and lots more.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO GO FISHING?

Luckily the Top End is generally very good all year round. The wet season January to March can be very good fishing weather permitting with great catches of, Black Jewfish, Golden Snapper, and Cral Trout.

April to May the beginning of our dry season are usually excellent for Jewfish and Golden Snapper, Trevally and Queenfish.

June to September the weather is great and the fishing is excellent for not only reef fish but Mackeral and Tuna.

October to December can produce the best fishing. The Sea is usually very calm and a great time to fish for Black Jew and Golden Snapper.

WHERE DO WE FISH?

We fish all the reefs up to 30 nautical miles off shore depending on tides and weather.

Areas such as The Pinicals , Lorna Shoals , North and South Gutter , Fish Reef , Bass Reef and many more.

Our crew will do their very best to find you your fish of a lifetime.

HOW MANY ANGLERS PER BOAT?

Our Vessel Red Devil can take 12 passengers with plenty of room to spare.

WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?

Only your hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. We supply breakfast, lunch and dinner depending on the time of day we depart.

We supply iced water and we also have a full liquor license for your alcohol needs and soft drinks. All fishing gear bait and tackle supplied.

WHERE DOES YOUR CHARTER DEPART FROM?

We depart from the Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal on the pontoon at 7 am sharp and return at 4 pm on a full-day charter.

Cullen Bay is about 5 minutes from Darwin City. We Prefer our passengers to be there 15 minutes before departure time.

Half Day charters vary due to the tides you will be notified of times upon booking.

Had a most memorable day, visiting some of the Top Ends pristine flood plains and tidal river systems ,seen salt water crocodiles up to 4 meters, various species of fish feeding and jumping ,the famous Jabiru, magnificent Sea Eagles to name a few, Flo is a dedicated guide, friendly, included us all , in his humorous out look ,always smiling and was determined to locate the allusive Barra, he provide the goods, with a freshly made wrap stuck in my mouth and two hands on the Barra rod the Barra battled very hard, jumping out of the water, I finally reeled in the 1 mtr Barra in, thanks Flo I highly recommend you and I will be back.

Fantastic day, the experience was worth every cent. Got to see beautiful parts of Darwin on the water. Best half day fishing you could ask for. My brother and I went fishing w Flo & Cindy today What an experience Flo had so much local knowledge & he landed us on the Barra and trevally had food for us plus super hospitable. The hosts made us feel so welcome. I can’t recommend them enough. We will be going fishing with this lot again.

Full day trip with the boys. Never been Barra fishing before and we landed 5 big Barra on one day great company. Great captain and deckhand easy going, plenty of laughs which always makes the day good. Cooked up fresh Barra on the BBQ for lunch. 3 people on the boat never been Barra fishing and we all left with a fish each smallest was 70cm cannot recommended this boat enough money well spent, and memories made that will last a lifetime!! Full day on the Finniss. We were all picked up at our accommodation by Flo, travelled to the Finniss River and set on our way, huge crocodiles spotted along the riverbanks. Fished with lures and ended up with 5 nice Barra on the turn of the tide. Flo filleted and cooked one for our lunch, as good as it gets. Great day with good people, Flo was on his game all day, made sure we all had what we needed. Go with the Flo, you won’t be disappointed.

Had a full day with Captain Flo on Corroboree Billabong … had a great day searching for the elusive Barra and Saratoga…plenty of food, snacks and drinks to keep us hydrated. Captain Flo looked after my partner who was a first-time fisher and ended up having a great day.

Flo was such an amazing guide. Felt we had a great fishing guide, ‘safari’ guide and chef all in one person. Family full day fishing trip. What a brilliant day. On the fish within 5 minutes of casting in. Caught barra, catfish, threadfin salmon. Saw crocs, dolphins, amazing birdlife and beautiful river scenery. A real treat to have our own catch cooked by Captain Flo. Thanks for an amazing experience. Such a worthwhile day with my family.

Great afternoon fishing off Darwin. What a cracking day out with Flo. Had our first Spanish mackerel in the boat within 15 mins. Then continued to see heaps of action and catch all day. Definitely recommend! So much better than a big charter. John

Captain and Cindy took care of all our requirements and made the day a very enjoyable and memorable one. We hope to have better fishing next time we are there as the river is super . The captain was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable and tried all options to get a big fish. We unfortunately had bad weather and could do nothing about it . We did catch a salmon for dinner and enjoyed that. Looking forward to coming back.

On this Darwin fishing charters you will be fishing some of the many offshore reefs out from Darwin in comfort, style and safety. Charter Boats are fully surveyed and have large fishing area’s fully shaded for your comfort.

On this Darwin fishing charter you will fish the reefs off Darwin and experience a real mixed bag of fishing, you could catch a variety of fish including, Golden Snapper, Black Jew Fish, Spanish Mackerel and many more.

Your Darwin fishing charter starts at the Mandorah ferry pontoon at 6.00am and finishes at the same location at approximately 3.30pm.

Departing Cullen Bay, Darwin you will fish some the many off shore reefs out from Darwin.

Availability

Only a short drive from the Darwin CBD is the Cullen Bay Marina. You will need to make your own way to the Mandorah ferry pontoon (outside the lock) to meet the Charter boat. The charter boat will depart at 6.00am sharp so you are asked to be at the pontoon by 5.50am.

Indonesian repeat illegal fishing offenders jailed in Darwin amid a surge in overseas boats

Two repeat offenders have been jailed after being caught illegally fishing in northern Australian waters on August 6.

A further seven illegal fishing vessels have been intercepted in northern Australia since August 18, with two of those detections in Western Australia's Kimberley region.

What's next? 

Authorities says they will continue hold public information campaigns in Indonesia to inform communities about the risks of illegal fishing.

It's been revealed two "repeat offenders" from Indonesia have been jailed after being caught fishing illegally in far-north Western Australia earlier this month.

It comes as the Australian Border Force (ABF) reports a "massive surge" in illegal fishing across northern Australia in recent weeks, with two more vessels intercepted in the Kimberley Marine Park.

The jailed men were among 20 illegal fishers sentenced in a Darwin court  last week, after authorities intercepted four vessels in Kuri Bay , about 370 kilometres north-west of Broome on August 6. 

An Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that several of those fishers "were identified as having a previous history of fishing illegally in Australian waters". 

Of that group, two men were found by Northern Territory Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions to have had outstanding warrants issued against them for similar offending.

AFMA said the warrants were executed after the pair's court appearance on Friday afternoon, with the men fined $4,000 and sentenced to 15 days and 75 days in jail respectively.

The other 18 illegal fishermen were fined and handed recognisance orders, similar to good behaviour bonds.

The group will be returned to Indonesia by the ABF.

More boats detected

ABF Assistant Commissioner Chris Waters told ABC Perth Radio on Tuesday that since August 18, authorities had detected seven more illegal fishing vessels in waters off northern Australia, from the Timor Sea to the Kimberley.

In total authorities seized over 4,500 kilograms of fish, more than 1,100kg of sea cucumber and 2,000kg of salt used to preserve the catch from the vessels.

"That's nearly one [boat discovered] a day, so that's really telling us the problem is significant and ongoing," Mr Waters said.

AMFA fisheries operations general manager Justin Bathurst told ABC Radio National on Wednesday that financial gain was a driving factor behind the surge.

"I suppose the risk of being caught is potentially lower than potential gain financially … as a result of illegal fishing," Mr Bathurst said.

Locals concerned

On Saturday, Kimberley tourism operator Peter Tucker said he spotted another fishing vessel hidden in the mangroves in Kuri Bay. 

He said he helped authorities search for the boat, but claimed the search was called off shortly afterwards due to the heat.

"I just shook my head, couldn't believe it," he said.

"We were already there and ready to go into that bay, they only had to wait 30 minutes."

Mr Waters said he could not comment on specific operational matters, and wouldn't second guess decisions of commanding officers.

The ABF would not confirm whether the boat reported by Mr Tucker had been intercepted.

Call for more resources

WA Premier Roger Cook said on Tuesday he wanted to see increased patrols in the region.

"My government maintains that we should have more grey ships on our coast, we should have greater aerial surveillance as well, but I'll leave that up to the federal government," he said.

"Our north west is home to some of the biggest pieces of economic infrastructure in the country, so obviously we will always welcome a higher presence of federal government resources to protect that coastline."

Federal Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson said the number of foreign fishing vessels was a national security and biosecurity risk. 

"If illegal fishing boats can get this close and stay this long, it won't take long before people smugglers work out that they can do the same," he said.

Senator Paterson said there also needed to be more transparency on operational matters, "unless there are very good operational reasons".

"I think the Australian people have a right to know what's happening, what is failing and why it's not working," he said. 

Mr Waters said authorities were well-resourced to monitor the coastline.

"The area of operation we're talking about is twice the size of Victoria," he said.

"We have seen a massive surge in illegal foreign fishing so we're doing the best we can."

Authorities said they would continue hold public information campaigns in Indonesia to inform communities about the risks of illegal fishing.

The federal Department of Home Affairs has been contacted for comment.
