Review: Mark Tuan brings the heat to Vancouver with “The Other Side” tour!

K-Pop star Mark Tuan played at the Vogue Theatre on November 1st!

pixeltracker

There's no doubt that Vancouver loves Mark Tuan. The enthusiastic crowd at Vancouver's Vogue Theatre filled with screams of support and admiration would agree. Mark Tuan's "The Other Side" tour stopped in Vancouver on November 1st and didn't fail to bring the energy and heat to the crowd. Being the 3rd last show of the tour, Mark did not show any signs of fatigue playing a large setlist of songs and charming the crowd with his dance moves, charisma, and visuals. "The Other Side" tour visited a total of 15 cities across North America and had its last show in Los Angeles on November 6th.

Whether you knew Mark Tuan from GOT7, as a solo artist, or never heard any of his music before; he welcomed everyone to his show with open arms. Playing a setlist of songs from his most recent solo album, "The Other Side," Mark Tuan opened up the audience by showing a more emotional side of himself through his music. From "save me" to "running away" and "imysm," a plethora of stories and emotions were felt throughout the night. In contrast to the more upbeat and catchy K-Pop songs Mark promoted with GOT7, it was interesting to see a new side of him with his solo work.

Mark was accompanied by artist "Wes" (Wesley Feng) who opened the show for him and had a team of musicians and dancers that joined him on stage to make the night special. For a relatively new solo artist, Mark had a lot to offer pulling out all the stops to make the show special. Between every few songs, he would take time to talk to the audience, often engaging in conversation with them about either his music or talking about the city. The audience was filled with many die hard fans holding GOT7 lightsticks and signs of support for Mark. One fan hilariously sported a sign telling Mark that she missed her own anniversary with her significant other to attend the concert which didn't go unnoticed by Mark.

Overall, "The Other Side" tour was well put together and created the perfect space for Mark to shine as a solo artist. With both his family and fans in attendance, Mark put on a great show that will be remembered by Canadian fans for a long time. His dedication to music and performances in Vancouver will never be forgotten.

Mark Tuan's "The Other Side" North American tour played in Vancouver on November 1st, 2022 at the Vogue Theatre. Other cities on the tour included: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

GOT7’s Mark Tuan Gets Intimate With Fans In Atlanta For “2022 The Other Side North American Tour”

the other side tour

GOT7 ‘s Mark Tuan continued his anticipated first solo tour ,  2022 the other side North American Tour, in Atlanta , Georgia, after performing three shows in Texas.

the other side tour

Fans, many of them Ahgase (also known as iGOT7, fans of GOT7) lined up, mostly rocking either black or green fits, on October 8 at The Masquerade – Heaven in the heart of downtown Atlanta since early that Saturday. Especially as the tickets were General Admission, everyone was eager to try to get a good view.

🖤South Korean boy band GOT7 member, singer-songwriter, rapper, and model @marktuan is pulling his The Other Side Tour up to Heaven’s gates TOMORROW, 10/8! 🔣Be sure to listen to his latest single “imysm” to prep for the show! 🎫 at https://t.co/s6KtixY7PN pic.twitter.com/MiqP6FIoqm — The Masquerade (@masquerade_atl) October 7, 2022

For the hours leading up to the show, VVIP, VIP, and GA were all lined up together until a couple of hours before the concert’s start time, as there was Meet and Greet for VVIP and Sound Check for VVIP and VIP. Yet, even with the groups separated, the line continued to grow as more people arrived for GA. By the time the concert was initially supposed to start at 7 PM, the line was wrapped around the venue. It was clear that the show was sold-out. Even though other events were simultaneously held at the venue (The Masquerade has multiple halls, including Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory), most of the crowd was there to see Mark.

the other side tour

Finally, the crowd outside somehow managed to fit inside the venue. The Masquerade – Heaven’s capacity is only 1,000.

the other side tour

Yet, even after everyone was inside, they waited with even more anticipation to see Mark. Leading up to his appearance, fans chanted his name until a man came out on stage, shouting,  “Make some noise! Make some f*cking noise!” It was Mark’s opener, Wes (also known as weswes). He joked with the crowd that he knew he was not Mark Tuan and led them to cheer for him.

When I say ‘Markie,’ y’all say ‘Tuan!’ — Wes

the other side tour

It’s not easy being an opening act, as you know the crowd is there for someone else. Yet, Mark’s fans treated Wes with more respect. They hyped him just as well as he performed a variety of his songs, including “Jose Cuervo Freestyle,” “Used to / Stick Around,” and “Kimchi Pasta (Infatuated On Rosecrans).”

the other side tour

Wes totally got the crowd going with his final song, “Rainforest,” only to leave them. Again, they chanted, “Mark!” until Mark Tuan walked out on stage to instrumental for “save me” as lights suddenly shifted from pale turquoise to purple.

the other side tour

Mark kept things going transitioning from “save me” to “last breath” to “let u go” and finally, fan-favorite “imysm” as the crowd morphed into cheers, screams, and singing along. Mark’s set list includes 22 songs as it features lead singles and B sides from his solo album the other side , as well as collaborations with Sanjoy and BIBI , “One in a Million” and “Never Gonna Come Down,” respectively. So, everyone’s favorite song, from “lonely” to “my name,” was performed.

the other side tour

While fans were initially concerned about how they would all manage to fit in the venue or if they would get a good spot in the GA crowd, it proved to be a perfect setting. It was perfectly fitting for Mark’s discography as he emphasized that his album was very personal to him and made entirely for fans, no one else, encouraging them to “f*ck all those haters.”

I really wanted to make this album special to me and special to my supports … So, I said it a couple of days ago, but this album is just for you guys. I really don’t care what other people think. — Mark Tuan

the other side tour

So, the entire concert was incredibly intimate. Even if you were on the balcony or in the back of the crowd, you still felt close to Mark, just as he had hoped.

I just really want to connect with you guys on a deeper level and that’s why we chose these specific venues so, you know, we can be a little closer to you guys… — Mark Tuan

the other side tour

The concert truly showcased Mark’s duality. There were many heartwarming moments in which both he and his fans were on the verge of tears. Yet, there were lots of fun and humorous moments. For example, both he and Wes took drinks with fans (from the stage).

the other side tour

Additionally, Mark acknowledged many fans individually in the crowd, from the guys to Latinas to someone celebrating their birthday, etc. He received fans’ banner and also pointed out all the lightsticks, including the AHGABONG (GOT7) and even the ARMY Bomb ( BTS ).

the other side tour

Mark previously performed in Atlanta as part of GOT7’s 2016 Fly Tour. While this is Mark’s first solo tour, he is technically not alone. Although he didn’t have six fellow members with him, Wes joined him for one song.

the other side tour

He was also accompanied by a band and two backup dancers who absolutely slayed, delivering incredible energy and charisma. So, with upbeat choreography and a shout-out to GOT7 and the fandom, Ahgases were very excited.

the other side tour

Mark Tuan’s 2022 the other side North American Tour still has several stops remaining before the final show on November 6 in Los Angeles, California.

Tour Description

We do not use the word "Ultimate" lightly in reference to this experience. The Ultimate Las Vegas Tour is our most popular private sightseeing tour in Las Vegas. On this tour, you will be transported from your local point of origin throughout the most popular areas of Las Vegas, The Strip, and Downtown too. On this tour you are going to be transported in comfort and style, and also figuratively back in time to the beginnings of all that is Las Vegas. While the main drag of early-day Las Vegas was in Downtown sprouting out from the train station along Fremont Street, The Strip has since grown with colossal-sized hotel palaces. Although it technically is outside the Las Vegas city limits, The Strip is what we think of when we dream of Sin City and this is where our journey begins. We begin our tour with a stop at the famous Las Vegas sign for the ultimate tourist picture. Then, we cruise down the famous Las Vegas Strip enjoying panoramic views of the city. Discover the entertainment capital of the world with spectacular views of the Bellagio fountain, the laser beam at the Luxor and the dazzling Stratosphere Tower on your drive down the Las Vegas Strip. Mark Tuan spoke to Elite Daily about his debut album, 'the other side.'

The K-pop star found career inspiration in Justin Bieber and Kanye West.

In Elite Daily's series Early Influences, musicians reflect on the songs and albums that left a lasting impression on them in their formative teen years. Here, rapper and singer Mark Tuan, who rose to fame as a member of the K-pop group GOT7, shares the artists who inspired him growing up, as well as those who currently influence his solo career.

Who is Mark Tuan outside of the highly-successful K-pop group GOT7? That’s the question the singer is pondering when I speak to him through Zoom on July 26. Exactly a month later, on Aug. 26, he dropped his debut solo album, the other side , where he wrestled with this and other introspective questions.

Namely, Tuan, who has spent the past decade in the spotlight, is still trying to figure out what parts of his life he wants to share with his longtime fans. “They know all the happy side [sic] of things throughout the past 10 years,” he says, referencing his time with GOT7. “But we’re so limited to what we’re allowed to do and express [as K-pop idols] that I kind of put all that in this album.”

If the other side sounds like a reintroduction, it’s because it is. In January 2021, Tuan and the rest of GOT7 entered a new chapter of their careers when they left their longtime agency JYP Entertainment — one of the “big three” entertainment companies in South Korea — following the expiration of their contracts. Despite their departure, GOT7 chose to remain together while also pursuing solo careers , making them one of the rare groups to overcome K-pop’s “seven-year curse.”

With this new sense of freedom, Tuan is getting honest about the ups and downs of riding high for so many years. He co-wrote each song on the other side, addressing external expectations (“The pedestal feels way too high,” he sings on “only human”) and internal criticism (“How could somebody look at me and think that I'm happy?,” he ponders on the piano ballad “my life.”)

“It was really hard for [me to work on] this project because it took some time to get it [to a place where] people can relate to it while still telling my story,” he says. “I like listening to songs that I can relate to, and I do want my listeners to be able to relate to [to my album] in certain ways.”

To get to this place of unflinching self-reflection, Tuan found inspiration in other male soloists who’ve publicly dealt with scrutiny and a watchful critical eye. Below, Tuan tells me more about these artists, as well as what fans can expect from him after the other side . (Hint: His tour is almost here.)

In an exclusive interview with Elite Daily, Mark Tuan talks about recording his first solo album, 'T...

As GOT7’s rapper, Tuan found early inspiration in Kanye West. “[I remember hearing] ‘Stronger’ on the radio,” he says. Tuan still regularly listens to West, specifically “Hey Mama,” off West’s 2005 album Late Registration . “His lyrics and everything from his older music really get to me, and I feel like they have a lot of replay value,” he says.

Although Tuan describes his and West’s music as very “different,” he says they share the “same mindset” about recording music. “[Kanye] not really caring about the outcome [is similar to me] knowing that what I’m putting out is something that I enjoy listening to and feel like it’s something for the fans,” Tuan says, adding that it’s been an “experience” trying to find himself as a solo artist. “I’m branching out of the group and kind of creating something that’s foreign to me.”

In an exclusive interview with Elite Daily, Mark Tuan talks about recording his first solo album, 'T...

In addition to being a singer, Tuan has also seriously forayed into fashion. He’s worked on three collaborations with the luxury streetwear brand Represent , modeled for countless magazines like Vogue Korea and GQ Thailand , and even attended Milan Fashion Week in 2019. His latest collaboration is with Spark Clear Aligners , an orthodontic treatment company. So Tuan finding a major influence in fellow music and fashion titan A$AP Rocky just makes sense.

“I started listening to him, I think, when I first moved to Korea [in] probably early 2010,” he says. Tuan gravitated toward Rocky’s music videos and fashion sense. “[They] had like a dark look to it and very trippy aesthetic,” he said.

Traces of this “dark” and “trippy” aesthetic can now be seen in Tuan’s music videos. “ Save me ” shows his silhouette performing against a psychedelic purple background as lights flash around him. Meanwhile, “ far away ” plays with the saturation to give the video an overall cloudy effect. “ My life ” also shows Tuan literally engulfed in darkness. It works — these artistic choices align with his album’s darker themes.

In an exclusive interview with Elite Daily, Mark Tuan talks about recording his first solo album, 'T...

As for singer Blackbear, who has also written for artists like Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly, Tuan admires the star’s confidence and ability to experiment. “I really love the way he kind of raps and sings at the same time,” Tuan says. “It’s just like he doesn’t give a f*ck. He’s really laidback and chill, and I think that’s something that I also want to incorporate into my songs.”

Tuan admits confidence is something he struggled with when recording his debut solo album. “Coming from a group with six other members, we play off each other if we’re lacking on some traits, and we have somebody else to fill in the spot,” he says. “So for me, having to try and sing a full complete song by myself, it was very hard for me and I didn’t think I could do it.”

However, once he got into the flow of things, Tuan felt better about himself and his work. “I think there was a time where every day for three months I was just in the studio,” he says. “I think it was just singing in the recording booth and hearing all the feedback from people saying they really like the song [that] kind of boosted my confidence.”

In an exclusive interview with Elite Daily, Mark Tuan talks about recording his first solo album, 'T...

With his debut solo album out and a tour on the horizon, Tuan is looking to further improve his singing voice and find inspiration in Justin Bieber. “I think the way he sings, it’s easy for people to listen to,” Tuan says.

For his next album, Tuan says he would love to create music similar to Bieber’s aesthetic. “I feel like lyrically, all the songs [on my album] are kind of dark,” Tuan says. “I’m really still experimenting and trying to figure out what I like the most.”

Tuan describes the other side as “pop-based with different genres” mixed in, and even has an idea of what genre he’d like to foray into next. “This mixture kind of works in terms of telling my story,” he says of the more brooding elements on the album. “But in the future, I do want to do something that’s more upbeat and dance.”

With the other side now out, Tuan will soon get IRL feedback on his music when he goes on tour in October and November. He’ll perform in 15 different cities across North America, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

While Tuan is a bit nervous to go on his first solo tour , he’s mostly really excited to get things started. “It’s a lot of mixed emotions, but it’s going to be fun,” he says.

While many of us will pursue a side hustle purely for the financial benefits, there are other perks to some gigs.

If you already have a busy schedule with a career that fulfills and compensates you fairly, you may be picky about what kind of side gigs you pursue in your limited spare time.

Here are five side gigs with additional perks that might be ideal for those looking for more than just financial compensation .

House Sitting on Rover

On apps like Rover, you can get paid for house-sitting gigs where you stay at someone’s home to care for their pet. Depending on the location, you can also get a free stay in a place you want to visit if you can land a house-sitting gig out of town. You can also take this a step further by offering to house sit in destinations you want to visit.

If you’re looking to travel in the future or if you want to see what it’s like to have your own dog, you can test out this side gig to see how it goes for you.

Grant Cardone: Passive Income Is the Key To Building Wealth — Here’s My No. 1 Tip

Starting a Walking Tour

There are many opportunities to become a tour guide in your city, and these gigs could pay you additional perks.

Here are some of the additional perks of a walking tour to consider:

  • If you start a tour around walking or food, you could get the items for free. When your tour brings guests somewhere for food, beverages, or some kind of performance, you could land free items.
  • You can meet friends from around the world. When you host a tour, you have guests coming from all over the globe. You can build friendships and have a place to stay on your next trip.
  • You can turn a hobby into a profitable venture. If you already love to bike or hike, a walking or biking tour would allow you to get paid to do something you’d choose to do anyway.
  • You get to fit exercise into your schedule. If you struggle with staying active, you could use walking to stay fit since you’ll always have an excuse to get moving. You could save money on a gym membership.

You can launch a walking tour on a platform like Airbnb Experiences, or you can promote your own tour on TripAdvisor. From there, you could become a local expert, which comes with numerous other benefits, like free invites to events and exclusive access to new openings.

Working as a Personal Trainer

Depending on the gym that you train at, becoming a personal trainer can come with additional perks that don’t revolve around money.

Here are a few perks that you may receive:

  • Free gym membership for yourself.
  • Free gym membership for your partner.
  • Access to exclusive facilities in the gym.
  • Brand partnerships with health companies. As a personal trainer, health and wellness brands may contact you about sampling products.
  • An excuse to work out.
  • The ability to make new friendships with like-minded people.

If you’re looking for a side gig that keeps you active while bringing in some decent money, you may want to consider earning your personal training certification.

Ushering at Concerts and Events

You can see a concert or performance for free if you pick up a side gig as an usher. This side hustle will allow you to save big money since concert prices have gone through the roof in the last few years. While you may not bring in the big bucks with this gig, you’ll get to see live events constantly without stressing about landing tickets.

Here are a few other side gigs that you can find related to events:

  • Help with organizing events.
  • Create social media content.
  • Take photos or record videos.

This leads us to the next side hustle…

Social Media Creator

Many regular people have turned content creation into a legitimate source of income. If you’re just looking for a side gig, you can also turn to social media as an option.

The perks outside of earning more money include the following:

  • Free samples of products.
  • Early access to services and establishments.
  • Building relationships with other creators and influencers that you look up to.
  • You can become a local celebrity.

As always, we suggest that you find a side gig that matches your skill set. The good news is that there are various perks to this side gig, even if you don’t notice a significant income boost.

There are numerous ways to make money from creating content on social media. Here are your best options:

  • Start your own Instagram page or YouTube channel around a passion of yours.
  • Offer to write captions and copy for social media influencers.
  • Take pictures or record videos for creators.
  • Find a local business that needs help with social media.

The goal is to find a way to turn your passion for social media and another niche into a side gig. From there, you could find yourself enjoying other perks as well.

If you choose the right side gig, you can land additional perks on top of earning some extra money. If you already have a busy schedule, one of these side gigs can help you find a way to stay social while making money. There’s nothing like turning a hobby into an income stream to offset the expensive cost of living.

Around Konkovo Metro Station

Bitsevsky forest natural and historical park.

Bitsevsky Forest Natural and Historical Park (July 2014)

Bitsevsky Forest Natural and Historical Park in the very south of Moscow covers an area of over 18 square kilometres and is second in size only to Losyny Ostrov in the north of the city.  In addition to areas of natural beauty, the park also incorporates many historical sites, including ancient settlements and burial mounds and three estates, as well as being a popular venue for walking, skiing and other sport activities.

Uzkoe Estate

The Uzkoe Estate is located in Bitsevsky Forest in between Konkovo, Tyoply Stan and Yasnovo metro stations on the side of the forest to the west of Sevastopolsky Prospekt.   The historical name of the land where the estate is located is Uzkoe and the first estate was built here in 1641 by statesman Maksim Streshnev.  Over the centuries the estate then passed to another branch of the Streshnevs, then the Golitsyns, Tolstoys and finally the Trubetskys.  It was under the Trubetsky family that the surviving neo-classical estate house was built according to a plan by the architect Sergey Rodionov.  After the Revolution, the estate was nationalised and given over to the Soviet Academy of Sciences for use as a sanatorium and was frequented by academics such as the scientist Lev Landau and the mathematician Andrey Kolmogorov.  Today it remains the property of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Between approximately 1693 and 1697 baroque-style Our Lady of Kazan Church was built on the estate on the orders of Tikhon Streshnev.  In 1930 the church was closed and subsequently used as an archive for old books. It was only returned to the Orthodox church in 1990 and reopened in 1992 when a new home was found for the books.

Yasenevo Estate

Another estate within Bitsevsky Forest is the Yasenevo Estate which is located close to the Novoyasenevskaya metro station.  The area of Moscow known as Yasenevo has been known to exist since the 13th century and was owned by the Lopukhin family since the 17th century.   In approximately the 1730s an estate house with two wings was built on the orders of the Lopukhins.  Later the estate passed to the Gagarin noble family.  After the Russian Revolution the estate was nationalised and in 1924 the estate house's second floor was destroyed by fire and was only restored in the 1970s.  Today the house remains empty and in need of restoration work.

Just north of the estate house, closer to the metro station, is Ss Peter and Paul's Church.  The church was built between 1751 and 1753 on the orders of Feodor Lopukhin, who was also responsible for the development of the whole Yasenevo Estate.  The church is most famous for the wedding which took place here in 1822 between Lev Tolstoy and Maria Volkonskaya.  The church was closed in the 1930s and only reopened in 1997.

Walking Tour: Kitai Gorod

Kitai Gorod, with its twisting and winding streets, is the oldest section of Moscow outside the Kremlin. The literal translation of Kitai Gorod is "Chinatown," but there has never been a Chinese settlement here. The origin of the word kitai is disputed; it may come from the Tatar word for fortress, but most likely it derives from the Russian word kita, in reference to the bundles of twigs that were used to reinforce the earthen wall that once surrounded the area.

Kitai Gorod begins where Red Square ends. Settlement of this area began in the 12th century, around the time that the fortified city of Moscow was founded on Borovitsky Hill (the site of the present-day Kremlin). By the 14th century Kitai Gorod was a thriving trade district, full of shops and markets. At that time it was surrounded by earthen ramparts, which were replaced in the 16th century by a fortified wall, remnants of which still remain. As Moscow grew, so did Kitai Gorod.

At the time of the Bolshevik Revolution it was the city's most important financial and commercial district, with major banks, warehouses, and trading companies concentrated here. These days the multitude of shops, restaurants, and banks demonstrates the area's reasserted role as an energized commercial center.

A good starting point for your tour is Nikolskaya ulitsa, which begins at the corner opposite the Historical Museum and runs along the north side of GUM. If you are coming from St. Basil's, walk away from St. Basil's toward the Historical Museum alongside GUM. If you are coming from outside of Red Square, get to Nikolskaya by way of Teatralnaya Ploshchad (Theater Square). If you are standing with your back to the Bolshoi on this square, walk straight ahead, cross the street, and enter one of the narrow passageways to the right or left of the Teatralnaya metro station (as you are facing it). Taking a right out of either passageway will bring you to Nikolskaya ulitsa. Go a short way farther to the right, to the cobblestone edge of Red Square, to begin your walk.

Nikolskaya ulitsa, which is named after the Kremlin's Nikolskaya Gate Tower, is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. At the corner with Red Square is the Kazansky Sobor . Leaving the church, take a left to make your way through the teeming crowds of shoppers on Nikolskaya ulitsa to No. 7, the Zaikonospassky Monastyr , the former Slavonic-Greco-Latin Academy now undergoing a slow restoration. Farther down the street, also on the left-hand side, is a once brightly painted white-and-aqua building with an elaborate facade (No. 15). The building was erected in 1810-14 on the site of the 16th-century Pechatny Dvor (Printing Yard), where Russia's first printed book was assembled in 1553. Today the building houses the Moscow Institute of Historical Records and the Moscow Humanitarian University. Cross the street to go down Bogoyavlensky pereulok. Halfway down the block, opposite the entrance to the Ploshchad Revolutsii metro, is the Bogoyavlensky Sobor . Continue down the street to where it intersects with ulitsa Ilinka. Before the 1917 revolution this was Moscow's Wall Street, and it is still lined with the impressive facades of former banks.

On the left-hand corner stands the former Ryabushinsky Bank . As you cross the street, look to your right; ulitsa Ilinka leads directly to the Kremlin's Tower of the Savior. At No. 3 stands the Tserkov Svyatoi Ilii church from which the street takes its name. The church, which dates to 1520, is in disrepair except for its facade. Opposite the church is one of the border streets of the Gostinny Dvor merchant's arcade. Turn left and walk the length of Khrustalny pereulok to reach one of the oldest streets in Moscow, Varvarka ulitsa. The opposite side of the street is lined with quaint old churches and buildings, but the first thing you'll likely notice is the gray bulk of the massive, concrete-and-glass Rossiya, one of Europe's largest and most unattractive hotels.

At the farthest corner of the street, to your right, is the Tserkov Velikomuchenitsy Varvary . Adjacent is the English Court . Next comes the white-stone Tserkov Maksima Blazhennovo . The pointed bell tower situated just before the semicircle sidewalk leading to the upper-level entrance of the Rossiya hotel was once attached to the redbrick Znamensky Sobor on the other side of the sidewalk; with its foundation on the slope below, it is set back from the street. At No. 10 is the Palaty Romanovych v Zaryadye , believed to be the birthplace of Tsar Mikhail Romanov. Before leaving Varvarka ulitsa take note of the last church, the blue Tserkov Georgiya na Pskovskoy Gorke at No. 12.

If you stand to the left of the church (on the walkway leading to the Rossiya hotel) you can glimpse a remnant of Kitai Gorod's 16th-century brick fortification wall. It is to your left, opposite the hotel's eastern facade. Cross to the other side of Varvarka ulitsa and walk a short hop past the final church. Make a right and climb up the narrow Ipatevsky pereulok, which leads to several government and administrative buildings. At the top of the incline to the right is one of Moscow's best-preserved 17th-century churches, the Tserkov Troitsy v Nikitnikach .

Continue down the lane to the right of the church to reach Novaya Ploshchad, or New Square, which is more like a boulevard than a square. To your right, at the far bottom of the hill, Slavyanskaya Ploshchad opens up. At the bottom of the hill is the redbrick Tserkov Vsekh Svyatykh na Kulishkakh . From Novaya Ploshchad stroll for a long block or two past the government buildings, where the Central Committee of the Communist Party once sat. Now these buildings house the Duma of the Moscow Region. Soon you will come to the beginning of a busy intersection. To your right, in the median strip that divides Novaya Ploshchad, is a park that holds the Plevna Memorial, an octagonal, towerlike monument commemorating the Russian soldiers who fell in the Battle of Plevna in the Russo-Turkish War (1878). Keep walking up the street on the left side to go to the Muzey Istorii Goroda Moskvy , a small museum on Moscow's history.

Note the building on the opposite side of the street that takes up the entire block. This is the Politekhnichesky Muzey , a museum of science and technology. Directly north of this museum is yet another museum, Muzey Mayakovskovo , which includes a re-creation of the study of the great revolutionary poet. A short distance from here, Novaya Ploshchad intersects with the circular Lubyanskaya Ploshchad , where you can behold the Lubyanka Prison and the former KGB headquarters, which now house the FSB -- the New Russia's federal security service. On the west side of the square is Detsky Mir, a large department store that used to specialize in toys but now carries all sorts of items.

Walk past Lubyanskaya Ploshchad to the west side, down to where it converges with the broad street of Teatralny proyezd, Moscow's most elite shopping street. On a side street to your right stands the ornate and luxurious Savoy hotel (3 Rozhdestvenka ulitsa), which, like the nearby Metropol hotel, was built in connection with the celebrations in the early 20th century honoring 300 years of the Romanov dynasty. On the left-hand side of the street you will pass a statue of Ivan Fyodorov, the printer who produced Russia's first book at the old Printing Yard on Nikolskaya ulitsa. The arched gateway just to the right of the statue links Teatralny proyezd with Nikolskaya ulitsa, the street on which you started the tour. Teatralny proyezd leads into Teatralnaya Ploshchad, site of three of Moscow's most important theaters.

Taking up the block on the southeast corner, the first building you will encounter to your left as you approach Teatralnaya Ploshchad is the Metropol , an art nouveau hotel. Reaching the square, you will see at the center a large monument to Karl Marx, carved on the spot from a 200-ton block of granite and unveiled in 1961. Across the boulevard stands the Bolshoi Theater , flanked on the left, on the corner farthest away from you, by the Central Children's Theater, and, to the right, by the Maly Theater . Turn left at the corner of the Metropol, and walk by the park and the hotel's main entrance. The large redbrick wall ahead is the other surviving remnant of the 16th-century fortification wall that once surrounded Kitai Gorod.

The wall has been heavily rebuilt, and a new tower has been added. Inside the tower are a couple of restaurants and bars. When you reach the Teatralnaya/Ploshchad Revolutsii metro station, take a moment to admire the exterior of the massive redbrick building on the corner -- the Muzey V. I. Lenina . If you still have some time but not much energy, consider hopping on Trolleybus 2, which can be caught at the bus stop opposite the Bolshoi Theater. The trolley ride takes about 45 minutes and makes a loop passing by Lubyanskaya Ploshchad, Ploshchad Pobedi (Victory Square -- note the obelisk topped by an angel), the Borodino Battle Panorama (in a circular blue pavilion), Kievsky vokzal (train station), the Novy Arbat, and Alexander Garden, before returning to Teatralnaya Ploshchad. You can purchase a ticket for 10R from the driver. Try to have exact change. Make sure to punch the ticket on board the bus.

Taken at a leisurely pace, with stops at least to glance at the interiors of the many churches along the route, this walk should take about five hours. If you intend to take a quick look at the exhibits in the museums along the way, you'll need an entire day. Both the Politekhnichesky Muzey and the Muzey Istorii Goroda Moskvy are worth coming back to for a more leisurely look at their holdings.

Luke Combs collabs with Miller Lite beer to bring new merch, a sweepstakes and more

the other side tour

Luke Combs and Miller Lite have announced a concert tour collaboration together, renewing Combs' partnership for another North American tour with the beer by his side.

The two have collaborated on a concert sweepstakes, custom merch and a new Combs themed beer can.

Combs posted a picture from the "fine pilsner" brewery in Milwaukee, WI on Tuesday wearing a safety vest and hard hat in front of a wall of beer cans.

The caption said, "Really appreciate the folks at  @millerlite  showing me around their brewery and letting me get an up close look at how my beer cans are made from start to finish."

Here's everything we know so far about the 2024 collab.

What is the Luke Combs and Miller Lite concert sweepstakes?

Luke Combs is hitting the road for his "Growin' Up and Gettin' Old" 2024 tour in North America. He kicked off the tour on April 13 in Milwaukee, WI, where he toured the Miller Lite brewery.

The tour will continue with two stadium dates in 13 cities. The tour includes guests Cody Jinks, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters, The Wilder Blue, Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff.

On Miller Lite's website , fans can enter their information for a chance to win a trip to see Combs in concert on the tour.

Miller Lite's website says, "Continue below to enter for your chance to win a trip to see Luke Combs play live and other prizes from your friends at Miller Lite. Now you know why ice-cold beer never broke Luke’s heart."

The sweepstakes began on March 3 and will end on Sept. 30.

What do the new Luke Combs Miller Lite beer cans look like?

Combs' Instagram post shows his custom 16-oz Miller Lite can, which features a guitar headstock with American traditional tattoo-like text that says "Beer Never Broke My Heart," a nod to Comb's 2019 song.

The front of the can includes Combs' name under the traditional logo.

Miller Lite on Instagram: "Luke Combs is back on tour. To celebrate, we're dropping the new Miller Lite x Luke Combs Tour Trucker hat on 4/17, restocking daily until 4/20. Get yours while they last."

When did Luke Combs begin his partnership with Miller Lite?

In 2022, Combs partnered with Miller Lite, releasing his first limited edition custom can with the brand.

"Last year’s limited-edition Luke Combs cans did really well for us," Jamie Rubinstein, associate marketing manager for Miller Lite, told Beer & Beyond .

"Plus, we got great feedback that they worked well with our Americana displays, so we’re looking forward to seeing how this year’s cans come to life at retail this summer."

When will we see the 2024 Luke Combs Miller Lite cans in stores?

It is unclear when the new cans will be available for purchase in stores.

Fans speculate the cans will be available at Combs' upcoming arena tour stops.

What other Luke Combs and Miller Lite merch is there?

Combs and Molson Coors have collaborated to release the Miller Lite x Luke Combs Tour Trucker, a special edition hat. The hat features Combs' signature vintage style and is also a potential ticket to one of his shows.

Starting on April 17, Miller Lite began selling a limited number of the hats at their merch store online. On April 18, 19 and 20 a limited number of hats will be sold at 8 a.m. CST.

Each hat purchased is also an automatic entry in a sweepstakes contest, entering fans in a contest to see Combs at a summer show of their choosing.

“He’s the most genuine brand fan we could have asked for, and we’re excited to share his love for Miller Lite with consumers this summer,” Rubenstein said to Beer & Beyond.

“If you’re a fan of Luke Combs, you’re probably a fan of Miller Lite. It’s a match made in heaven.”

Boris Pasternak's museum house

Guided tour of Pasternak's museum housein Peredelkino village

Pasternak’s “important achievement both in contemporary lyrical poetry and in the field of the great Russian epic tradition" was honored with a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958. For many readers outside Russia, Pasternak is known mainly as the author of the touching historical novel Doctor Zhivago written in 1957. The novel as a whole communicates the haphazard, uncertain and chaotic quality of life caused by the Russian Revolution and the heroic case of quiet humanism demonstrated by a single person.

Pasternak’s translations of Georgian poets favored by Joseph Stalin probably saved his life during the purges of the 1930’s. However, the individualistic Pasternak was not suited to the Soviet artistic climate when art was required to have a clear socialism-inspired agenda and so Russian publishers were unwilling to print Pasternak’s novel. In fact, Doctor Zhivago first appeared in Italy in 1957.

Pasternak won his Nobel Prize the following year. Despite Pasternak politely declining his Nobel Prize quoting: “because of the significance given to this award in the society to which I belong”, the award nevertheless spread his fame well beyond Russia. He ended his life in virtual exile in an artist's community in Peredelkino village. His last poems are devoted to love, to freedom and to reconciliation with God.

Pasternak was rehabilitated posthumously in 1987. In 1988, after being banned for three decades, "Doctor Zhivago" was published in the USSR. In 1989 Pasternak's son accepted his father's Nobel medal in Stockholm.

Pastenak loved his house in Peredelkino, the house and surrounding nature featuring in his poetry. The poet considered the cycle of poems "Peredelkino", which he completed in the spring of 1941, to be his best work. The poet spent the first difficult months of the war in Peredelkino; he completed the novel "Doctor Zhivago" here, wrote the Lara poems and translated Shakespeare and Goethe. It was in this house that he learned he was to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature on October 23rd 1958. He died here on May 30 1960.

The house in Peredelkino only acquired the status of a museum in 1990, thirty years after the poet's death and a century after his birth. The museum has fully preserved the environment and atmosphere of the house where Boris Pasternak lived and worked. The director of the museum is Elena Pasternak, grandaughter of Boris Pasternak.
