Artists Who Are Going On Tour In 2024: The Rolling Stones, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo & More

The year is just getting started, but 2024 is already stacked with exciting tours. Open up your calendar and start planning with this sprawling list of announced 2024 tours.

Just a couple of years ago, live music still looked uncertain — would variant X, Y or Z derail the train for the umpteenth time? But in that regard, 2023 felt almost totally in the clear — and that's why it feels like the rubber band is stretched back for 2024, and it's ready to launch.

Sure, compiling every musical act who's touring in 2024 might be impossible. But GRAMMY.com's stylistic purview is far and wide: country, hardcore, soul, R&B, rap, indie rock, you name it. As such, we're giving it our best shot — and will continue to update the list as more tours are announced.

Without further ado, here's a major cross section of the 2024 touring landscape as currently announced — from Alvvays to Adam Ant , from Def Leppard to Danny Brown.

Meet The Artists Bringing Back UK Jungle: Nia Archives, SHERELLE & More

First developed in the 1990s, a new generation of UK musicians — particularly queer individuals and women of color — are reviving jungle music. From Tim Reaper to PinkPantheress, envelop yourself in the experimental sounds of the genre.

In the early 1990s, a bombastic new type of music was emerging in the underground Black British scene of London. Jungle was a frantic mixture of breakbeats and reggae featuring fast beats that splintered into myriad directions, interspersed with vocal samples.

Thanks to pirate radio stations, jungle saturated the streets of London’s predominantly Black, working-class neighborhoods. Jungle was a sound of escapism, celebration, community, crafted by the children of immigrants of post-war Britain.

Junglist historian Julia Toppin notes in her essay "Tech, Language and Riddim: From Jungle to UK Drill" that jungle "snatched bites from young Black Britain’s sonic palette of genres: reggae, hip-hop, pop, house, soul, RnB, groove, punk, jazz, folk, and classical," with artists like Goldie, Shy FX, A Guy Called Gerald, General Levy leading the scene. By the latter part of the decade, jungle offshoots like drum and bass gained prominence, causing the jungle scene to gradually fade into the background.

Today, a new generation of UK musicians are waking up the scene — a revival spearheaded by queer individuals and women of color. As contemporary junglist Nia Archives told GRAMMY.com , jungle is "anything over a breakbeat" — it simply refuses to conform: "The breaks have so much room to go in whatever direction you want. You can go really heavy , or you can go really light and atmospheric," she said.

It’s a flexibility that she takes full advantage of across her releases. Nia Archives layers  beats with everything from pensive, thoughtful lyrics and RnB melodies ("Cards on the Table", "So Tell Me"), to rave abandon (" Baianá ", "Forbidden Feelingz ", " Unfinished Business ")

Nia Archives is taking her debut album, Silence is Loud on the road, stopping at summer festivals including Chicago’s Lollapalooza before touring the U.S. in the fall. She is one of many contemporary jungle artists boldly experimenting with unrestrained beats, earth-shaking basslines and intricate percussive patterns to breathe new life into the pulsating rave scene.

Here are seven other artists who are bringing jungle back.

Former Mixmag photographer SHERELLE gained widespread attention after a 2019 Boiler Room viral set , followed by the release of "JUNGLE TEKNAH" in 2021, which layers piano house chords onto jungle beats. Her latest single, "Henry’s Revenge," features ethereal synths over dramatic bass drops.

Fresh from a completely sold-out international tour, SHERELLE will play a New York Boiler Room set on July 14, alongside Afrobeats star Amaarae and UK rapper Giggs.

One of the slickest in the game, Sully is a pioneer of today’s revival and has been on the scene since 2005. His beats are methodical, with tight percussion flawlessly mixed into hours of ecstatic jungle harmony. On 2024 single "Nights", he teams up with jazz singer Sâlo to create a dreamy and contemplative dancefloor meditation.

He continues to inject energy into the club, with massive sets featuring the likes of grime MC Flowdan and B2B’s with fellow junglist Tim Reaper, and is playing several UK festival slots over summer.

GROVE harnesses jungle’s unmatched energy to voice political despair. "The stinking rich families, you know how they anger me," they spat on last year’s single " Stinkin Rich," where trippy beats erupt into a heavily distorted chorus.

Their 2022 breakout hit, "Feed My Desire," is sensual, with hushed whispers and soft verses underscored by blaring basslines, demonstrating GROVE's mastery of mood — ranging from rage to seduction.

PinkPantheress

PinkPantheress didn’t come up through a club or rave scene, by anonymously uploading songs to TikTok, which she made in her bedroom during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her sped-up vocals and luscious hooks nodded to the heyday of 2000s UK Garage (UKG) (a jungle offshoot), quickly drumming up a viral following online.

Last year, the 23-year-old broke into the U.S. thanks to the massive UKG track "Boys A Liar pt 2" featuring Ice Spice , which now has over 200 million views on YouTube. A lover of throwback genres and a fan of jungle veterans like Shy FX, PinkPanthress combines breakbeats with pop melodies and emo guitar riffs, a delicious mix that’s made her one of Gen-Z’s fastest-rising pop stars.

Tim Reaper is a London native who has pushed the jungle revival for over a decade. His music includes reggae-influenced ragga samples (one of jungle's key influences), chill synths, and can go both hard and soft.

In 2020, Tim Reaper launched club night Future Retro to showcase London’s budding scene. However, the pandemic lockdown led the event to morph into a new-skool jungle record label that highlights some of the genre's hottest artists, including Sully, Mantra , and Decibella .

London-based DJ Shy One has been making music since she was a teenager, coming up through the ranks as a selector on legendary Hackney-based online radio NTS Radio.

Her music is shaped by grime, soul, house and jungle, and she’s taking her versatile sets to a handful of European festivals this summer. Her latest single, " Gyallis Spiral," combines rubbery bass lines and scattered synths, giving it a uniquely hyper-futuristic, spacey feel.

LCY is an artist and owner of the experimental label S7NS7N whose music is, by design,  indescribable . Their tracks are leftfield and surreal; the mere act of listening is an out-of-body experience.

Their 2023 EP He Hymns is a celestial exploration of club music hinged on breakbeats, heavy bass, disorientating drops and haunting vocals. You’re not sure what’s going on, but jungle is one of the many genres that form a kaleidoscope of their mind-bending sounds.

Crashing Into The Present: How Kehlani Learned To Trust Their Instincts And Exist Loudly

"I want this next batch of music to feel like the most fiery parts of me," Kehlani says of her new album, 'Crash.' The singer/songwriter speaks with GRAMMY.com about embracing the moment and making an album she can headbang to.

After finishing the first mixes of their new album, Kehlani knew exactly what she needed to do: head to Las Vegas.

The L.A.-based, Oakland-born singer/songwriter had always identified with Sin City: "I’m full of juxtapositions," she tells GRAMMY.com. "Vegas is this crazy bright light city in the middle of a vacant desert that has weddings and also strippers." Fittingly, Kehlani harbored a very Vegas-like image in their head while creating Crash , a record built on blaring neon, glowing smoke, and the highest highs.

Crash drops June 21, and is Kehlani's fourth solo album. She burst onto the scene in 2009 as a member of teen sextet PopLyfe, but their 2014 debut solo mixtape Cloud 19 announced a far more complex character. Their debut full-length, SweetSexySavage , was released three years later to critical acclaim, with two more albums and a handful of platinum-certified singles following. As if that weren’t enough, Kehlani added acting, appearing in "The L Word: Generation Q" and a cameo in Creed III .

And while Crash embodies the evolution and growth through all those experiences, the record builds a hyper-real language all their own. Beyond any sense of R&B or pop, soul or hip-hop, Crash finds Kehlani chasing passions that refuse to fit in any box, shifting multiple times within a track — refusing to focus on anything but the moment.

"A crash isn't anything from the past. It isn't the anxiety of what's about to happen," she says. "It's the height of the moment. It's right now."

Nearing the release of Crash , Kehlani spoke with GRAMMY.com about finding inspiration from international music, getting their five-year-old to sing on the album, and their need to stage dive.

What’s it like living in Los Angeles after growing up in the Bay Area?

I moved to L.A. when I was about 17. I had already left the house. I left the house at 14, and by the time I was almost 18 it was the appropriate time for me to situate in a new place. L.A. and the Bay are like cousins. Do we have differences? Absolutely, things that are fundamental to us, but when you leave California, you can really see that we're just like a big family.

Had you been dreaming of L.A. as a place where you could pursue art? Were you already set on that goal?

It was the closest place that a young, very broke person could go and work in music. I'm sure there were other places with musical homes, musical cities, but if all I had to do was get on a $15 bus and go find someone to stay with in L.A., I was gonna do it for sure.

That’s the same ambition that I feel drives this new record, which is just so dense and full of surprises. That includes the lovely retro radio intro to "GrooveTheory," where you move from this ‘60s pop feel to the present. That’s such a smart way to foreground your evolution.

I think the second that we made that song and then turned it into ["GrooveTheory"], I was like, This feels like it encompasses where I'm headed, this whole new sound .

Once that radio dials in and it comes in with R&B elements, it's producing where I'm headed, but also remembering that my core hasn't changed. Especially the energy of what I'm saying in the song, like, "I'm kind of crazy," it's introducing this energy difference on this album. I feel like that's the biggest change, and that's what's so prevalent in this whole rollout. Energetically, I'm on a whole different type of time.

You can sense it. 'Crash' feels really rooted in self-expression and personal growth, and when you listen to it as a whole, it really does seem like an evolution story. Beyond just the genre and style, how do you feel the way that you've expressed your true self has shifted over the years?

Thank you! That's been the feedback I've gotten from pretty much everyone who's listened, and I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. I have realized the public's understanding of me and the general consensus for so long, and I also realized how multi-faceted I am to people.

People get really confused when I express all the sides of my personality. They’re either, like, "Okay, she makes really sweet love songs," or "We've seen you be political, we've seen you come out, we've seen you be a family member." And then there's a lot of people who are, like, "I feel like she's f—ing crazy. I've seen her in multiple relationships. I've seen her be angry. I've seen her get online and cuss people out."

I want this next batch of music to feel like the most fiery parts of me. I want it to feel like the most present and energetic parts of me. I don't want anything to feel somber. I don't want anything to feel reminiscent. I think a lot of my albums in the past have been me looking back, and sitting in that feeling and detailing it. I just wanted [this album] to feel right here, right now, which is why the title came about. A crash isn't anything from the past. It isn't the anxiety of what's about to happen. It's the height of the moment. It's right now.

That’s unfortunately a story you hear too often about artists of color — that essentialization, where you can only be seen as one thing. R&B often gets hit with those same issues. Throughout your career you’ve stood up to those expectations, and "Better Not" on this album is such a good example of that. It’s a left turn, a stylistic contrast and an open conversation with the listener. You cleverly fuse that intentionality with a voice that’s stronger than ever.

In the past, I have had moments where I would make the song and [start recording], and there would be so many versions of each song on different microphones, recorded in different places.

"Let me try vocal production. Let me try to go back and work with this version again." I went back and did vocal production with Oak Felder , who did all the vocal production on SweetSexySavage . When I come back to some of my favorite vocal production moments, it was moments like "Distraction" or "Advice" or "Escape" — songs on my very first album — and I wanted to get that feeling again. Where it's lush where it needs to be, but also that I really mean what I'm saying.

That started with the approach in the songwriting. Once I had the songs and I had to go back and deliver them, I had enough time to listen and listen, to learn the songs and identify with them. We would make music all day and then go out, and we would be in this sprinter van on the way to going out, and, like, bang, the songs we just made, the energy was just different. It allowed me to be present in a different way where my voice is able to show up like that.

Which again ties perfectly to crashing into the present. As someone from South Africa, I love that the other guests that you included represent different cultural viewpoints. You worked with Young Miko from Puerto Rico, Omah Lay from Nigeria. Having that musical dialogue is so powerful.

We had so many conversations about how America's in the backseat often when it comes to music. We have our moments, and it's fantastic, like Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter . There's a culture that is super American, that is Black, that historically needs to be dived into. It needs to be shown that we do have something here.

So many people that don't speak Spanish bang Bad Bunny all day. Amapiano’s taking over; Tyla ’s going up. It's really not here . So that wasn't a conscious choice. It's just what we've all been listening to, what we've been loving.

Speaking of guests, I wanted to ask about your daughter, whose voice is on "Deep." Was she just in the studio and you got her singing?

So those vocals on that, that’s actually my little sister and my goddaughter. And [my daughter] was in the room and she started singing along. She has perfect pitch; she's always freestyling or singing or making something up.

I was like, "You want to just go sing on it?" What's on there is her first take. Literally. She did it the first time, all the way through, perfectly. I was like, "Well, that's it, guys. I can retire."

That track is so lush. It feels so alive. Were you working with a full band?

[Producer] Jack Rochon, who I did a lot of the music with, he just is a freaking genius music whiz. Honestly, he's one of the most humble people that I know, and deserves credit for how amazing a lot of this album is.

Talking about touchstones, there's a Prince energy to the title track. Did you have any new inspirations or influences for this record?

Thank you! My main focus for this album came from going on tour for my last one and making such a pretty, sweet, intimate album, and then playing some of the biggest venues of my career. At some point I had to rearrange the setlist to add in a lot of the album before that one, because it was just more energy on the stage. By week two of tour, the setlist had completely changed. I knew that I was playing venues on this next tour that I've dreamt about, places that I can't fathom that I'm playing, like Barclays Center.

I do a lot of things for, like, my inner child, and this is such a move for my inner child. Like, You're about to go play Barclays. Do you want to look back and say, ‘I rocked out and played Barclays’? I'm a person who headbangs on stage. I stage dive. I wanted to create an album that would ring through a venue like that. I want people to be engaged again. I'm not looking for the lighters and the somber, holding each other — which will occur regardless, because it's a me show.

But I really wanted people to be in their bodies, and their heart’s exploding and the ground’s shaking. So that's what we accomplished. I wanted to have fun. This album is so fun to me. It’s a place of fire in my heart.

It took me a second to get the word play on "Eight." I loved the track, and then suddenly I was like, 'Oh… I knew there was something raunchy going on here.'

[*Laughs.*] "Eight" was super fun, and shoutout to the boys that I did it with, because they made it everything for me.

I didn't come up with the wordplay. My boys did. Like, "This is how you talk!" I was like, "It is! This is perfect." Once I got in to fix things, add things, add my own spin, and finish writing, my favorite part was that it sounds like a Brandy song. She's my favorite.

I also wanted to ask about the Nina Sky sample on "After Hours."

That was mine. I was like, "What can we flip that when it comes on, my generation loses their mind?" And for me, every single time that Nina Sky comes on in the club, everybody's like "Woo!" And then you see how many songs were made from that same sample, and they're all songs that make us lose our minds.

I went into the room with the producers, and I was like, "So, I want to flip this, but I want you to make it to where it doesn't become one of those where the whole thing is just a sample."

Similarly, "Lose My Wife" balances breeziness with high emotional stakes. Is finding a balance like that just natural for someone so capable of juxtaposition?

The second that we established that [the record] felt like Vegas, I knew what components were missing from the energy of how I feel the second my car crosses the line into the city of Las Vegas. I knew I was missing that feeling of the next morning when you realize you went on this high and you come down. I wanted to create these scenarios that weren't necessarily applicable to me, but captured that emotion. I've been there before, and I want people to be like, Damn, I've been there before. I know this feeling .

I recorded that song at 4 in the morning with a sinus infection. The second that we finished it, everybody was like, "You can never re-sing that. Don't try to make another version, you're not gonna be able to sound like that again." All the chatter in the background of that song is really everybody who was in the studio that stayed up to just hang out. We had the tequila out, it was perfect. That was probably one of my favorite moments of making the album.

It takes a while as an artist to reach a place where you can capture those moments. You said before that people try to figure you out, and I mean this in the best possible way, but it feels like now you don’t care if they can’t figure you out.

I don't give a f—anymore, yeah. And that was a very important thing for me to learn. I used to care so much, and I would spend so much time explaining myself online, in music, in interviews, on stage. I realized that you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I've been so forward-facing with my heart my entire career that I've left a lot of room for people to consistently pedestal me and then critique me, for people to want to tear me down. I realized I'm just being present, here, existing loudly in front of a billion people, and whichever way that goes is how the cookies gonna crumble. Me giving a f—? I'm the only one it's affecting at this point, for sure.

Metro Boomin's Essential Songs: 10 Must-Know Tracks, From "Creepin" To "Like That"

The 2024 GRAMMY nominee for Producer Of The Year is one of hip-hop's most in-demand minds. Between his collab albums with Future and some highly debated beefs with rap's biggest stars, it's the perfect time to revisit the Metro-verse.

Metro Boomin has spent more than a decade redefining rap music. The gloomy, 808-induced trap beats that flood radio airwaves and blare from nightclub speakers are a symbol of his influence. But now, the Atlanta-based superproducer is on one of his biggest musical runs to date.

In April, Metro released the second of two joint albums with Future , hinted at a third release this year, sold out a concert at the Kundalini Grand Pyramids in Egypt, and clinched the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 with " Like That " featuring Kendrick Lamar. He also delivered a first-of-its-kind instrumental diss aimed at Drake called " BBL Drizzy, " accusing the Toronto rapper of going under the knife.

The diss was in response to Drake’s " Push Ups " and subsequent disses toward Kendrick Lamar. " Metro shut your hoe ass up and make some drums " he rapped. The verbal blow inspired Metro to release the hilarious instrumental, which he encouraged fans to rap on for a chance to win a free beat.

Months before the feud, Metro celebrated two nominations for Best Rap Album and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 66th GRAMMY Awards . While he didn’t take home a coveted golden gramophone, the momentum has elevated his career to new heights.

Before the St. Louis-bred producer kicks off the We Trust You tour with Future on July 30, revisit 10 of Metro Boomin's biggest releases.

"Karate Chop" (2013)

A 19-year-old Metro crafted his first charting single right before making a life-changing move to Atlanta. With piercing synths and bubbly arpeggios, the song was the lead single for Future’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Honest .

But Metro, a freshman at Morehouse College at the time, wasn’t sold on its success. " I never really like it, " Metro told XXL . " Then every time people would come into the studio, he would always play the record and I was like, ‘Why are you so stuck on this s—? We have way harder records.’ "

But after cranking out a new mix on the original track, " Karate Chop " went on to become his first placement on a major label album. The remix with Lil Wayne further elevated the record and, by virtue, Metro’s profile as a musical craftsman.

" Jumpman " (2015)

Metro mastered the late-summer anthem in 2015 with " Jumpman . " The song was the most notable hit from Drake and Future’s collaborative mixtape, What a Time to Be Alive, and went on to shut down bustling nightclubs and obscure strip joints. And while the record didn’t perform as well as other songs on this list, it secured Future his first Top 20 hit.

The song — which features Metro’s signature bass and a screeching raven sound effect — also saw a streaming boost after an Apple Music commercial featuring Taylor Swift rapping to the song. According to Adweek , the campaign helped generate a 431 percent increase in global sales

What makes " Jumpman " even more special is that a collab between Future, Metro, and Drake may never happen again. Reportedly, the duo is at odds with Drake because the OVO artist decided to link with 21 Savage on Her Loss instead of doing a follow-up project with Future.

"Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" (2016)

" Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 " is the song that set Kanye West ’s album, Life of Pablo, ablaze. Opening with a clip of gospel musician and singer T.L. Barrett’s Father I Stretch My Hands,” Metro’s signature producer tag kicks the record into full gear. The pulsating synthesizers and bouncy percussion match West’s raunchy and sexually explicit lyrics.

Metro’s production received significant praise, with several publications pointing to his contributions on end-of-year listings. And in the eight years since its release, " Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 " has been certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America , making it one of Ye’s most-sold records of all time.

"Congratulations" (2016)

After the success of "White Iverson," a young Post Malone was on the hunt for the hottest producers in the rap game. He managed to land Metro, who worked with fellow producers Frank Dukes and the prolific Louis Bell on the triumphant trap record "Congratulations."

On a 2022 episode of the podcast " Full Send ," Metro revealed that the celebratory song was made after watching the world’s greatest athletes eclipse historic feats of their own. "I remember the Olympics was on TV, and just how the music was sounding, it sounded like some champion s—," he said.

"Congratulations" marked Post Malone’s second Top 20 hit following his debut, "White Iverson." The song was certified diamond after totaling more than 11 million combined sales. Today, it remains one of Metro’s biggest achievements.

"Bad and Boujee " (2017)

Fueled by virality and a shoutout from Donald Glover at the 2017 Golden Globes , the Migos and Lil Uzi Vert ’s "Bad and Boujee " landed Metro Boomin his first No. 1 Billboard hit as a producer.

The song has every element Metro fans have grown to love: moody keys, hard-hitting bass, and plenty of room for the artists’ adlibs to pierce through the track.

Two months before its eventual ascension, the song had a steep hill to climb atop the Billboard charts. But Metro’s production and the chemistry between Quavo , Offset , and Uzi helped the record shoot up to its rightful place. It continues to garner praise In the years since its 2016 release, too. It was ranked No. 451 on Rolling Stone ’s "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list

"Mask Off" (2017)

When "Mask Off" dropped in 2017, it scorched the Billboard charts. Hip-hop was flirting with flutes (as heard on songs like Drake’s "Portland" and Kodak Black’s "Tunnel Vision" — another Metro-produced beat) — but "Mask Off" stands out as the biggest song of the short-lived era.

Metro infused jazz-like undertones to perfectly meld the flute lick into the dark and mystic beat. The record led to the remix with Kendrick Lamar, with his verse breathing new life into the already-seismic hit. It’s now certified nine times platinum.

Years after the song’s release, Future said "Mask Off" initially put radio programmers in disarray. In his East Atlanta rapper’s Apple Music documentary The WIZRD, he revealed that the song dropped before Carlton WIlliams’ "Prison Song" sample was officially cleared. "Out of all the songs, ‘Mask Off’ wasn’t even legit," he said. "The s— was on the radio, they’re thinking it’s not a sample, but it got so big they were like, ‘It’s a sample.’"

"Heartless" (2019)

The Weeknd 's "Heartless" is a pop and electro-clash classic that fires on all cylinders. The visuals are atmospheric, the lyrics are ultra-stimulating, and the production — partly handled by Metro — makes for a lasting club banger.

The leading single for The Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours, topped the Billboard charts. It marked the Toronto-born crooner’s fourth No. 1 hit and unveiled the depths of Metro’s musical arsenal.

Metro produced four tracks on After Hours : "Faith," "Escape from L.A.," "Until I Bleed Out" and "Heartless." On the latter and in his other collaborations with The Weeknd , James Blake , and Solange , Metro’s creative sorcery was tested. He proved, once again, that he could generate a hit outside the confines of trap music.

" Creepin ’ " ( 2022)

After a solid outing on his first album Not All Heroes Wear Capes , Metro returned with another series of hard-hitting records. His second solo venture, Heroes & Villains , featured John Legend , Don Tolliver , Travis Scott , and other premiere artists. But the biggest song to come out of the star-studded lineup was " Creepin ’" featuring 21 Savage and The Weeknd .

The only single to Metro’s second solo album struck sonic gold. The Weeknd’s flowy vocals overlay the silky and harmonic record, which transitions to a more trap-induced beat once 21 Savage’s verse kicks in. The remake of Mario Winans’ "I Don’t Wanna Know" was a notable departure from Metro’s past singles, which heavily lean on his trap roots. But it still managed to connect with his audience – and even beyond it. " Creepin " peaked at No. 3 on Billboard, which was Metro’s highest-charting solo record up until that point.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)

Following the success of " Creepin ’" and his other smash singles, Metro extended his creative powers to the film world. He was given the green light to executive produce the soundtrack for Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse .

Metro Boomin told Indie Wire that he crafted songs from rough animations and selected scenes "just to get in the world and the story of Miles [Morales] and what he’s going through," He even exchanged phone calls and texts with the film’s composer Daniel Pemberton to ensure the soundtrack and score were on the same accord.

From the classical serenade "Am I Dreaming" to the Latin swing of "Silk & Cologne" and the Timbaland -stomping "Nas Morales," the result was an equally transformative musical experience. Each record ranged in musicality and tone while beautifully complementing the vibrant animated superhero flick.

"Like That" (2024)

"Like That" is easily one of the best beats in Metro’s catalog, and may end up being one of the most memorable. Samples from Rodney O & Joe Cooley’s "Everlasting Bass" and Eazy-E’s 1989 classic "Eazy-Duz-It" shaped the bouncy trap beat, sinister synths, and spine-chilling baseline. But Kendrick Lamar’s verse turned it into a heat-seeking missile.

With the song’s thunderous bass and rapid hi-hats in the background, Kendrick dissed J. Cole and Drake for their recent claims of rap supremacy, particularly on 2023’s "First Person Shooter." The lyrical nuke sparked the Civil War-style rap feud, which led to a seven-song exchange between Kendrick and Drake.

The initial musical blow made the genre stand still. It also led to the massive success of the record, which notched Future and Metro another No. 1 hit song. It also helped the pair’s album, We Don’t Trust You, claim the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

2024 Country Music Tours: A Complete Guide

Dates range from global tour stops to Vegas residency appearances.

Back in the fall of 2023, country star after country star announced their touring plans for 2024.

Some, like Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood, lengthened their residencies in Las Vegas. Others, like Ashley McBryde, extended ongoing tours into the new year. Chris Stapleton confirmed the return of his annual traveling troupe of roots country outsiders, while Zach Bryan plotted his most ambitious headlining tour to date. In Dan + Shay's case, the duo will tour when they're not occupied with their co-coaching role on " The Voice, " which returns to NBC on Feb. 26.

Attending major tours doubles as an opportunity to see the next wave of potential country stars. For example, Luke Combs is taking Colby Acuff on the road, while Zach Top will be in the main support slot for Lainey Wilson's US tour. There's also some stacked tour pairings, such as established name Carly Pearce's run opening for living legend Tim McGraw.

Read on for 20 tours of note that were announced by Jan. 3, 2024. A lengthier list of country and Americana tours follows and will be updated throughout the year. Others not listed here, such as Jelly Roll, have a long list of festival dates and other concerts listed on their websites . Plus, several festivals of note —from Stagecoach to AmericanaFest— have yet to reveal their 2024 lineups.

Taylor Swift; Beyoncé; Drake

Dozens of artists hit the road during 2023 to bring their music to sold-out venues across the globe.

The first half of the year started off strong with artists and bands like Harry Styles, Journey, Carrie Underwood, SZA, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reba McEntire, Janet Jackson, Lizzo, Blink-182, Charlie Puth, Billy Idol, Wiz Khalifa, Bebe Rexha and Black Pink heading out on their headlining tours.

Some artists had such sought-after tickets for their tours, including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, that it led to sites, such as Ticketmaster, completely crashing when tickets dropped.

Many summer nights were also filled with good tunes this year as artists including Alicia Keys, Post Malone, Paramore, Chris Stapleton, Boygenius, Lionel Richie, Melissa Etheridge and Maggie Rogers set out on tours during the warmer months.

Concert tours are not only an opportunity for artists to promote their latest albums or to highlight their entire music catalogs, but it’s also a chance for their fans to come together to celebrate the music and musicians that they look up to and love. Those attending shows for artists such as Swift, Beyoncé and Styles often dress to impress, going all out for their outfits. Beyoncé even asked her fans to specifically come to her Virgo season concerts for her Renaissance World Tour decked out in silver and chrome, to celebrate her astrological sign. Swifties, inspired by the lyric “Make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it …” from her song “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” made themed bracelets to trade and hand out to other fans at each of the stops on her Eras Tour.

The performers often praise their fans for all their love and support, like Swift writing on social media in July after her stops in Seattle, Washington, “Thank you for everything. All the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs.”

But if you missed the opportunity to see your favorite artists earlier this year, don’t worry, because The Hollywood Reporter has compiled a list of some of the most anticipated concert tours happening this fall, below.

Time to start saving up, Swifties. The news that Taylor Swift is going on her first tour in five years is exciting enough, but once you see the star-studded list of guest artists she’s bringing along for the ride, you’ll really want to purchase a ticket.

The pop star announced Tuesday (Nov. 1) that she would be embarking on The Eras Tour , a celebration of all 10 of the studio albums she’s released since 2006 — at least, that’s what the trek’s title suggests. Swift also shared a poster advertising the tour’s 27-date U.S. leg on Instagram featuring a collage of photos of herself through the years, from the time of her self-titled debut to Midnights , which dropped less than two weeks prior to the tour news.

All the Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Performed on The Eras Tour (So Far)

The Cats star hasn’t hit the road since 2018, when she launched her best-selling Reputation Tour. She had planned on performing again after the release of her 2019 record Lover in a concert series called Lover Fest, but canceled the shows due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

For those who are keeping count, this means that Tay has six albums-worth of new material that she’s never played live — if you include the previously unreleased vault tracks on 2021’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) . Studio albums Folklore, Evermore and, of course, Midnights , have all also been released in the time between Lover and the Eras Tour.

Though additional international dates won’t be announced until a later time, Swift did also reveal exactly who’s joining her during her highly anticipated return to touring. A total of nine artists make up the supporting act lineup for the tour’s first leg — with two acts slated per night to open for Tay night — and some of them are very familiar faces for the Swiftie community.

Keep reading to see who’s joining Taylor Swift on her 2023 Eras Tour below:

  • 3/18 – State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Taylor Swift and Paramore ‘s Hayley Williams have been friends for years, and now they’re teaming up for the Eras Tour’s kickoff show in Glendale. The “Anti-Hero” singer brought Williams out during a show on her Speak Now tour to sing “That’s What You Get” in 2011, cast her in the award-winning “ Bad Blood ” music video in 2015, and reveled in her praise of Swift’s 2021 record Evermore .

Beabadoobee ‘s involvement in the Eras Tour was foreshadowed back in May when Taylor used one of the indie pop star’s songs, “See you Soon,” in a TikTok made on the day she delivered the commencement speech at NYU’s graduation ceremony.

Taylor and Phoebe Bridgers forged a friendship after the former invited the latter onto her Red (Taylor’s Version) vault track “Nothing New” as a guest vocalist. “She is an incredible businessperson and an incredible writer,” Bridgers praised the “All Too Well” songwriter in a 2021 interview with Billboard . “What she’s been able to build just from writing adeptly from a young age is insane.”

MUNA had a connection to Taylor through Phoebe Bridgers, whose label, Saddest Factory Records, signed the “Silk Chiffon” trio in 2021. The group’s lead singer, Katie Gavin, has also revealed that Swift inspired their 2022 self-titled album.

Since then, the four women have collaborated on a song together — “No Body, No Crime” on Swift’s Evermore — and joined forces again in 2022 for Swift’s “Bejweled” music video .

Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best

So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!

Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?

Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.

1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see

Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?

2. Meet new friends

It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!

3. The freedom

Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.

4 . It’s a cult

You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.

5. Confidence boost

Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.

6. Experience the music your way

Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.

Your next gig awaits

It all starts here.

Create memories to last a lifetime

Whether it’s your favourite band, an evening with friends, discovering new artists or the seventh show on the tour, we are your go-to home for all things live music.

Curtis on Tour in Brevard, NC

  • Curtis On Tour
  • May 13, 2025 @ 7:30 P.M.

Music of Beethoven, Brahms, and more

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States, and Finland, the acclaimed  Erinys Quartet  i s the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music. This fall, the prize-winning quartet joins internationally renowned violist and Curtis president and CEO  Roberto Díaz   (Viola ’84) and Avery Fisher Career Grant winner and GRAMMY-nominated cellist   Peter Wiley  (Cello ’74), Bruce Jay Gould, M.D. Chair at Curtis for three exhilarating performances as part of Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of Curtis, featuring Johannes Brahms’s ethereal String Sextet No. 2 in G major, Op. 36, and more.

This performance is presented by Brevard Music Center.

A violist of international reputation, Roberto Díaz is president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music, following in the footsteps of renowned soloist/directors such as Josef Hofmann, Efrem Zimbalist, and Rudolf Serkin. As a teacher of viola at Curtis and former principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Díaz has already had a significant impact on American musical life and continues to do so in his dual roles as performer and educator.

As a soloist, Mr. Díaz collaborates with leading conductors of our time on stages throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia.  He has also worked directly with important 20th- and 21st-century composers, including Krzysztof Penderecki—whose viola concerto he has performed many times with the composer on the podium and whose double concerto he premiered in the United States—as well as Edison Denisov, Jennifer Higdon, Ricardo Lorenz, and Roberto Sierra. His recording of Jennifer Higdon’s Viola Concerto won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Classical Composition in 2018.

As a frequent recitalist, Mr. Díaz enjoys collaborating with young pianists, bringing a fresh approach to the repertoire and providing invaluable opportunities to artists at the beginnings of their careers. In addition to performing with major string quartets and pianists in chamber music series and festivals worldwide, Mr. Díaz has toured Europe, Asia, and the Americas as a member of the Díaz Trio with violinist Andrés Cárdenes and cellist Andrés Díaz. The Díaz Trio has recorded for the Artek and Dorian labels.

Mr. Díaz’s recordings on the Naxos label with pianist Robert Koenig include the complete works for viola and piano by Henri Vieuxtemps and a Grammy-nominated disc of viola transcriptions by William Primrose. Also on Naxos are Brahms sonatas with pianist Jeremy Denk and Jonathan Leshnoff’s Double Concerto with violinist Charles Wetherbee and the Iris Chamber Orchestra led by Michael Stern. Mr. Díaz’s live performance of Jacob Druckman’s Viola Concerto with Wolfgang Sawallisch and the Philadelphia Orchestra is available on New World Records. He has also recorded the Walton Viola Concerto with William Boughton and the New Haven Symphony for Nimbus Records, and works for viola and orchestra by Peter Lieberson with Scott Yoo and the Odense Symphony Orchestra and for Bridge Records.

Since founding Curtis on Tour in 2007, Mr. Díaz has taken this successful initiative to North and South America, Europe, and Asia, performing chamber music side-by-side with Curtis students and other faculty and alumni of the school. His tenure as president of Curtis has also seen the construction of a significant new building which doubled the size of the school’s campus; the introduction of a classical guitar department and new conducting and string quartet programs; and the launch of Curtis Summerfest, summer courses open to the public. In the fall of 2013 Curtis became the first classical music conservatory to offer free online classes through Coursera.

Also under Mr. Díaz’s leadership, Curtis has developed lasting collaborations with other music and arts institutions in Philadelphia and throughout the world and established a dynamic social entrepreneurship curriculum, supported by a prestigious Advancement Grant from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Designed to develop the entrepreneurial and advocacy skills of young musicians, this curriculum includes the project-based Community Artist Program (CAP) and the post-graduate Community Artist Fellowship program, which gives recent Curtis graduates the opportunity to dedicate a year of arts-based service to the community.

Mr. Díaz received an honorary doctorate from Bowdoin College and was awarded an honorary membership by the National Board of the American Viola Society. In 2013 he became a member of the prestigious American Philosophical Society founded by Benjamin Franklin. As a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, he was selected by then-music director Christoph Eschenbach to receive the C. Hartman Kuhn Award, given annually to “the member of the Philadelphia Orchestra who has shown ability and enterprise of such character as to enhance the standards and the reputation of the Philadelphia Orchestra.” He received a bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Burton Fine; and a diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music, where his teacher was his predecessor at the Philadelphia Orchestra, Joseph de Pasquale. Mr. Díaz also holds a degree in industrial design.

In addition to his decade-long tenure as principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he performed the entire standard viola concerto repertoire and gave a number of Philadelphia Orchestra premieres, Mr.  Díaz was principal viola of the National Symphony under Mstislav Rostropovich, a member of the Boston Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, and a member of the Minnesota Orchestra under Sir Neville Marriner. He plays the ex-Primrose Amati viola.

Peter Wiley, a 1974 graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, has played at leading festivals including the Marlboro Music Festival, for which he also tours and records. As a recitalist he has appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. A member of the Beaux Arts Trio from 1987 to 1998, Mr. Wiley also succeeded his teacher, David Soyer, as cellist of the Guarneri String Quartet from 2001 to 2009. He is a member of the piano quartet Opus One, with Curtis faculty members Ida Kavafian and Steven Tenenbom and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.

Mr. Wiley entered Curtis at age thirteen. At twenty he was named principal cello of the Cincinnati Symphony, after one year with the Pittsburgh Symphony. He made his concerto debut at Carnegie Hall in 1986 with the New York String Orchestra conducted by Alexander Schneider.

A past recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, Mr. Wiley joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1996. He also teaches at Bard College Conservatory of Music.

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Finland, the Erinys Quartet was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki where they worked closely with cellist Marko Ylönen. Since Autumn 2023 Erinys has been the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA (USA).

The Erinys Quartet has performed throughout Finland, the rest of Europe, and in the United States. They have been featured at festivals and concert series including Indiana University Summer Music Series (USA), Mimir Chamber Music Festival (Texas, USA), and Festival Groba (Ponteareas, Spain). They have also taken part in the inaugural Dover Quartet Workshop at the Curtis Institute of Music as well as the Professional String Quartet Seminar with the Pacifica Quartet and Atar Arad (Cleveland Quartet) at Indiana University.

At the Bad Tölz International String Quartet Competition in 2023 they were awarded the Audience Prize Award of the City of Bad Tölz, as well as the Esterházy Foundation Special Prize for best interpretation of a Haydn string quartet.

Since 2021 Erinys Quartet has been supported by Le Dimore del Quartetto where they are also a part of the European Union-sponsored MERITA platform.

In 2023-2024 season the Erinys Quartet will present concerts in Philadelphia, Madrid, Eisenstadt, and Helsinki. In addition to their studies at Curtis with the Dover Quartet, Erinys is pursuing a diploma in chamber music at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain under the tutelage of Professor Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett).

Why See Live Shows?

From Tony Award-winning Broadway shows to chart-topping pop concerts, live performances have been a cornerstone of entertainment since the 17th century. From classical composers to today’s rock legends, connecting with artists and fans across the globe has been a unifying part of the human experience. There is truly a concert for everyone, from standing-room-only clubs to stadiums with cushy seating. Whether you enjoy getting dressed up for a night at the opera or dancing the night away in a venue every experience will be different, from the one.

Noteworthy Concerts & Live Shows

The coming year will bring many concerts and live shows to cities near you, whether you want to listen to country, pop, or rap, or do something different and see a theater show. Get to know each genre a little better, and discover old favorites and buzzy new acts you may want to see next time they come around.

Country Concerts

Born in North Carolina, Luke Combs won the Entertainer of the Year award from the Country Music Association. Best known for his hits like “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” you would not want to miss his next show. Country music has a long list of legends. Female powerhouses like Miranda Lambert , Kacey Musgraves, and Dolly Parton put on must-see shows, and groups like Sugarland and Lady A made a mark on modern audiences. True country lovers may even want to find tickets to the annual Stagecoach Festival in Indio , California, to see all of their favorite artists in one place.

Pop Concerts

For a reason, it’s called “popular” music: Artists like Adele , Pink, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and beyond are guaranteed to top the charts … and their tours are guaranteed to sell out. These hotly-anticipated concerts often sell out huge stadiums and arenas because of their globally beloved hits and ubiquitous radio plays.

Rock and Hard Rock Concerts

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen , known for dozens of hits, including "Thunder Road," still tours internationally — and any day the Boss has a live performance is a day to remember. Legendary rock musicians such, as Springsteen, Aerosmith , Kiss , Metallica , and the Rolling Stones continue to deliver performances today just as they did in the century. Catching a show, by these icons is an experience seizing while you have the chance.

R&B Concerts

If legendary R&B singer Anita Baker , best known for her song “Sweet Love,” can tour after a nearly three-decade hiatus, anything is possible. Stars like The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, SZA , Ari Lennox, and Kehlani offer smooth, emotional hits that can move fans like nothing else, and they’re even more moving when you hear them with thousands of other fans singing along.

Rap Concerts

From its origins, in the 1970s hip hop has not just reflected the sentiments of the landscape but has also ingrained itself as an essential element of American society. Originating as a form of resistance and reflection, the narratives of struggle, resilience, and triumph resonated with a generation. Modern Maestros and Tomorrow's Titans: Once held by the old guard, the baton has been passed to a new breed of lyricists and performers. Visionaries like Drake , 50 Cent , DaBaby , and Tyler the Creator lead the charge, releasing tracks that continue to top charts and redefine the genre. Yet, the future is equally bright with fresh voices like Dominic Fike , Jack Harlow , and Lil Nas X making waves and ensuring Rap remains as dynamic as ever.

Other Live Music Events

If you want something a little different, try the Trans-Siberian Orchestra which has a unique sound, blending heavy metal and classical composition. This symphony orchestra has elaborate concert events and is best known for “Carol of the Bells.” They’ve played everywhere, from Madison Square Garden to the Fillmore, and made a name for themselves.

Hearing the Roar of the Crowd: Finding Those Cheap Concert Tickets

Your favorite band is coming to town, but you're on a strict budget. Paying for everyday items is your main concern right now. Concerts will have to wait. There's no need to miss out on enjoying yourself just because affordable concert tickets are, within reach if you know where to search. Find yourself hooting and hollering at that next musical experience by using these tips to secure cheap concert tickets.

Get in "The Line"

It's still a reality that concert tickets are at their cheapest levels when first released to the public. Get in the virtual line by buying the tickets online. You can be clever about this process if you abide by the ticket-sale rules. Some tickets are sold in batches where certain credit card holders have access to the purchase a few days before the rest of the public. Use your credit card or join a particular fan club to access these early-bird sales. You'll typically have a pick of the best seats at the lowest prices. Check out the list of upcoming concert tours for next year.

Explore Officially Resold Tickets

A relatively new feature for ticket providers is resale. Tickets may have gone on sale a few days ago. Vetted customers who have tickets now may want to sell them afterward. The original, ticket provider offers you a list of official, resale tickets that are available at this time. These tickets are legitimate and verified by the ticket provider so there's no concern over counterfeit issues. There's a slight discount on the tickets so that you have some reward for working with a reseller.

Go on Craigslist

If you're looking for even cheaper concert tickets, look them up on Craigslist or other online classified lists. Ticket prices will change as the event date approaches. The sellers may have a high price a few weeks before the event, but then they drop the value as the date quickly arrives. Because there's a deadline on the tickets, you may score incredibly by waiting until the last minute. Be aware that waiting out the sale is a risk, too. Another buyer may swoop in to secure those tickets before you do. Weigh the risks and rewards of your purchasing strategy before trying any waiting games.

The Old-Fashioned Ticket Broker

There are still ticket brokers in the industry who can sell you an event from almost any venue. It's important to note that the costs may not be as cheap as you'd like. These brokers have overhead and personal costs added to each ticket. However, finding a deal is possible when the event draws near. You might negotiate with the broker about fees or buy several tickets at a bulk discount. Personalizing the process is critical so that the price drops reasonably.

Work Around Social Media

When you're active, on media you might have around 100 friends or followers who help you reach out to a network of people. Conversate with online friends so they know you're looking for cheap concert tickets. Sometimes, a friend might have an extra ticket to sell you. As the event date approaches, ticket holders may get ill and bow out of the concert. Look for online posts that advertise a friend is not attending a concert. They'll often put their ticket up for sale among their friends so that someone benefits from the concert fun. Pay a fair amount to your friends so that they're pleased with the transaction while you benefit from cheap concert tickets.

A Raffle at Work

Corporations receive a lot of perks from associates in the industry, including concert tickets. The executives don't always use these industry gifts, so they're raffled off to the employees. Make sure to participate in these raffles as your chances of winning are high depending on how many people are entered the draw. If you win, try to bring another colleague from work so that you share the prize's bounty. These concert tickets are outright free, which leaves more money for you to spend on souvenirs or another concert in the future.

Bidding Websites

Because eBay has been an incredible success, many bidding websites have popped up worldwide. Consider looking through these bidding sites for your cheap concert tickets. The bidding process often starts at a low price but quickly escalates. Look for one or two tickets at a time, and bid on several to cover your needs if you lose out on a bid. Pay attention to certain websites that ask for an upfront fee. Legitimate websites asking for this fee can narrow the bidding war, making scoring those cheap concert tickets easier.

Radio Giveaways

Your local radio stations probably have giveaways to keep listeners on those stations. Browse through your radio settings so that you can find any giveaways. Focus on one giveaway so that you don't miss out on the call-in time. Because listeners are scattered between Internet and satellite radios, you may be among the few who listen and call in at the right time.

Buy the Last Seat in a Row

Most people want to sit with their friends so buying two or four tickets at a time is commonplace. Try to buy a seat from the original ticket provider, where it's a single position in the middle of a row. Because of its position in the row, you may find a deep discount on it. Visit with your friends during intermissions as a solution to your socializing at the event, too. Keep your eyes and ears open at work because a group deal might appear. Corporations renting out a suite at an event typically invite a handful of people to fill the space. You can be one of those invitees who gets you into the venue. AVLFest music fest returns Aug 1-4: What to know about tickets, shuttles, bike guide, more

Portrait of Tiana Kennell

ASHEVILLE - Plan accordingly before going out this weekend as it might be extra crowded at your favorite watering hole. Live music fans will take over the city for the sophomore year of the citywide festival, AVLFest.

On Aug. 1-4, more than 350 music artists are on the bill to play at more than 20 venues at the festival that sold more than 7,000 tickets in its inaugural year.

Ahead of Thursday’s concert kickoff, some festivalgoers are preparing by listening to festival organizers Wicked Weed Brewing and Worthwhile Sounds’ curated AVLFest 2024 playlist of featured performers on Spotify, then mapping out where and when to see their favorite acts.

Others may prefer to go with the flow of the music on their music discovery quest.

Anything goes with the schedule-loaded homegrown festival devised with cross-demographics and genre appeal.

Here are some helpful tips and things to know before diving into the four-day music extravaganza, AVLFest.:

Who’s playing AVLFest 2024?

This year’s top billing includes Papadosio, Beachwood Sparks, Town Mountain, Washed Out, The New Pornographers and Terminator X of Public Enemy. View the full lineup and schedule at  avlfest.com/artists/ .

Where are the AVLFest venues?

The routes include three loops through downtown, the River Arts District and West Asheville. A park-and-ride option is available at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College’s main campus at the Hemlock building, 207 Victoria Road.

Happy Jerry Garcia Day!

The iconic Bay Area personality and globally known musician and founding member of the Grateful Dead was born 82 years ago Thursday. And although he and the original band have been gone for nearly two decades, the musical legacy lives on, especially with spinoff band Dead & Company performing in its extended residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas through this weekend. With its patented sound blending rock, psychedelia, folk, jazz and other genres, and Garcia’s distinctive  syncopated and melodic lead guitar runs, the Grateful Dead’s music remains one of the most identifiable of any band in history. The band’s role in creating the San Francisco sound and its part in the lively, if oft-inebriated music scene only add to its mystique.

One aspect of Garcia that isn’t as well known was that he was a prolific artist, having created paintings, drawings, etches and even digital art on a steady basis beginning in the late 1980s. He was known to carry a pad and pen and was frequently seen doodling potential works and ideas. Like his music, Garcia’s art embraced several styles and themes – whatever was flowing through his mind at the time. These works were not just random scribblings, mind you; they drew respectful and even favorable reviews and he staged several museum and gallery exhibitions around the country beginning in the early ‘90s. You can see his works for yourself now in a free exhibit at the Sausalito Center for the Arts running Thursday through the end of the month. All the works, made available  by the Jerry Garcia Foundation, will be available for sale (most costing $2,500) with proceeds going toward the Arts Center’s projects to promote art, music and more in Sausalito.

Meanwhile, the 22nd annual Jerry Day celebration and concert kicks off 11 a.m. Saturday at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park, San Francisco, featuring Melvin Seals and JGB, Stu Allen and Mars Hotel, Grahame Lesh, Elliott Peck, Alex Jordan and more ( www.jerryday.org ).

Details: Arts Center is located at 750 Bridgeway, Sausalito; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday; free admission; www.sausalitocenterforthearts.org.

Here comes the purrfect festival

Sure, we can all try to immerse ourselves in artistic ventures that reflect profoundly on the human condition or promote compassion and empathy among people in these tense and challenging times. Or we can say “forget it” and spend the day watching cat videos. If you choose the latter (and we are not here to judge), several Bay Area theaters are hosting that touring bundle of furry, purring awesomeness, CatVideoFest, beginning Friday.

Now we understand that some of you may prefer to take in cat videos from the safety and privacy of your own home, but try thinking of it as something you’re doing not because you want to mess off when you should be working, but because you just enjoy the thrill of watching cats who look like Wilford Brumley or who adorably get themselves tangled up in a fresh load of clean laundry and want to share this joy with like-minded fans of feline accomplishment. Plus, CatVideoFest is all about raising money and awareness for various groups that help abandoned cats find homes. Portions of the funds raised at each Bay Area CatVideoFest  screening, for example, will go to a local cat rescue organization. The 75-minute, non-rated video collection comes to the Sequoia Theatre in Mill Valley, the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, the Rialto Elmwood theater in Berkeley and the Roxie Theatre in San Francisco.

Details: Most screenings $10-$15; tickets, schedules and more information is at www.catvideofest.com .

Go all ‘Enter Sandman’ at SFMOMA

Metallica is one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history, with scads of Grammys and a throne in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And now you can hear what they’d sound like if their famous drummer was instead a subway bucket drummer, perhaps, or an oleaginous teenager who loves banging to Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters in his garage at midnight.

For one day only, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is allowing anyone from the public to whale on the drum kit Lars Ulrich used in the recording of the 2016 album “Hardwired … To Self-Destruct.” The event is part of the SFMOMA exhibition “Art of Noise,” which gathers unique physical artifacts from the history of sound and music.

To be clear: No musical qualifications are necessary, just the burning urge to rock out without embarrassment. To temper the madness a bit, the museum has booked a few professional drummers who will play on the hour, including Chiyo Nukaga Jacobus and James “Stick Nasty” Small. Time slots for playing the seven-piece, purple-sparkle drum set are limited and sign-ups will be accepted on a first-come basis. And if it needed to be said, Lars Ulrich will not be in attendance.

Details: Noon to 8 p.m.; Floor 4 at SFMOMA, San Francisco; free as part of First Thursday; event tied to “Art of Noise” exhibit that runs through Aug. 18; sfmoma.org.

Desi Comedy Fest marks milestone

10 years ago, Bay Area comedians  Abhay Nadkarni and Samson Koletkar  decided to try their luck by creating a show spotlighting South Asian yuckmeisters. To say it paid off would be understatement.

As the Desi Comedy Festival returns for its 10-year anniversary, it has logged shows across the country featuring more than 200 comedians, thousands of comedy fans and some gazillion guffaws. OK, we’re just speculating on that last statistic but you get the idea — the Desi Comedy Fest has become a tradition and hopes to stay that way.

The event will stage its Bay Area run with four shows: 8 p.m. Saturday at the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton; 7 p.m. Sunday at Cobb’s Comedy Club in San Francisco; 8 p.m. Tuesday at Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley; and 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at San Jose Improv.

Founders Nadkarni and Koletkar are still in the lineup, along with Deeptanshu Jha, Ibhaan Kulkarni, Maryam Moosavi, Maddie Kelly,  Abby Govindan, Anu Bee, Deeptanshu Jha, and many more. The goal, organizers say, is “creating a space where laughter knows no borders.”

Details: Tickets are $30 per night; www.desicomedyfest.com.

Classical picks: ‘Don Giovanni,’ pop trailblazers

For opera lovers, August starts with “Don Giovanni,” sung by the artists of the Merola Opera Program. Also this week: The San Francisco Symphony celebrates three beloved female pop/rock icons.

Racette directs at Merola:  With the Merola Opera Program in high gear this week, audiences will have a chance to see and hear the elite training program’s rising-star singers in two performances of Mozart’s dramatic masterwork, “Don Giovanni.” Conducted by Stefano Sarzani, the production features stage direction by star soprano Patricia Racette, who started her career as a young singer in the Merola Program.

Details: 7:30 p.m. today, 2 p.m. Saturday; San Francisco Conservatory of Music; $10-$65; merola.org/summerfestival.

Cabrillo Currents:  You can’t get much newer than the music at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music: this weekend’s events include a program featuring the West Coast premieres of works by Vivian Fung and Nina Young, along with a world premiere by Karim Al-Zand; superstar violinist Leila Josefowicz will also be on hand to perform the West Coast premiere of Helen Grimes’ Violin Concerto. Also in the lineup is “Tell Me Again,” Lembit Beecher’s cello concerto that he wrote for his wife, cellist Karen Ouzounian, who joins the orchestra in the work’s West Coast premiere, l

Details: Through Aug. 11; Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, Santa Cruz; $30-$82; $295-$360 subscriptions; cabrillomusic.org.

Joni, Carole, Carly:   The trailblazing music of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon are featured in today’s San Francisco Symphony program, with guest singers Morgan James, Capathia Jenkins, and Shayna Steele lending their voices to some of those iconic songwriters’ greatest hits. Ted Sperling conducts.

Marsh celebrates anniversary with laughs

Arguably, there are less risky ways The Marsh founder Stephanie Weisman could have celebrated the 35th anniversary of her organization, which develops and showcases solo theater shows in the Bay Area. The artistic and executive director gambled on creating a monthlong festival dedicated to women and nonbinary-identifying writers and performers.

“Not to sound flippant, but if I waited to be confident or worried about the successfulness of many of my ideas, I doubt I would have started The Marsh or anything else,” she says.

The result: Marsh’s In Front of Your Eyes Performance Festival, running today through Aug. 25 at its venues in San Francisco and Berkeley. Its writers and performers — Laura Jane Bailey, Tina D’Elia, Celina Demos, Elizabeth Du Val, Marga Gomez, Candace Johnson, Pearl Louise, Pearl Ong, Shubhra Prakash, Kathryn Seabron, Ananda Bena-Weber and Weisman — are a mix of first timers and veterans with in-development works.

Weisman her will debut “180 Days. To Die. To Live.,” in which an omnipresent narrator follows two terminally ill characters pondering legal end-of-life options. The piece, onstage in Berkeley Aug. 23-25, was inspired by Weisman’s husband and a mutual friend; both were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The festival features 12 shows in all.

Details: Aug. 1-11 in S.F., Aug. 14-25 in Berkeley; tickets and passes are $15-$135; themarsh.org .

A Summer with the Symphony signoff: The San Francisco Symphony winds up its monthlong series of non-subscription programming this weekend with two live performances of the Oscar-winning score to the romantic 2016 movie “La La Land,” conducted by the man who nabbed the trophy himself, composer Justin Hurwitz. Meanwhile, the film starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as an aspiring actress and a jazz piano player looking to make it big, plays out over the orchestra members’ heads on a giant movie screen.

The film, which captured 14 nominations total, won six of them, including best actress for Stone and best director for Damien Chazelle, at the time the youngest person, at age 32, to score a win in that category. (Those of us with long memories will recall that the ceremony was somewhat marred when presenter Faye Dunaway, reading from a duplicate card for Stone’s award, mistakenly announced that “La La Land” had also won best picture, leading to several minutes of confusion before the real winner, “Moonlight,” emerged.)

Details: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3, 2 p.m. Aug. 4 ; Davies Hall, San Francisco. $225-$325; www.sfsymphony.org .

FREE TICKET SHOW | SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 | 7.30PM / DOORS 6:30PM FREE TICKETS ONLINE VIA RESERVE BUTTON BELOW. Hailed by Rolling Stone for “his classic American soul sound,” Lee Fields is revered as one of the greatest pure soul singers alive today. Fields has proven to be an unassailable force of nature. His prolific five-decades-plus career spans more than twenty albums and over forty singles, a supreme, still-evolving body of work which continues to garner attention via samples by such heavyweight artists as J. Cole, Travis Scott, Rick Ross, and A$AP Rocky as well as outside-the-box collaborations like the worldwide dance club hit, “Jealousy,” with French DJ/ producer Martin Solveig. The North Carolina-born Fields arrived in New York City in 1967, inspired by James Brown’s legendary performance on The T.A.M.I. Show to make himself a soul star. The decades that followed saw Fields grow a hard-earned reputation as a true king of funk with a steady stream of albums and singles, including 1973 ’s stone classic, “Let's Talk It Over.” Though missed opportunities and changing musical tastes over the years might have kept him from reaching the pinnacle of mainstream stardom, Fields never let up, keeping the soul flame alive with independent releases and non-stop touring on the southern blues circuit. In 1996, Fields recorded “Let a Man Do What He Wana Do” [sic] for Desco Records, a New York-based independent label co-run by producer/musician Gabriel Roth. The full-length Let’s Get a Groove On followed in 1998, cementing Fields as a torchbearer of the new funk revival, a Golden Age icon for a whole new generation of soul fans around the world. Fields continues to reign supreme on the modern funk and soul scene via a long series of new LPs and singles – including seven LPs joined by his explosive backing band, The Expressions – as well as countless live visits to every relevant venue and major festival on the planet, from Carnegie Hall, and L’Olympia to Coachella, Bonnaroo, Newport Folk, Roskilde, and many more, earning applause from such outlets as NPR for his “groove-filled performances with fiery energy and toe-tapping swagger.” In 2001, Roth opened the doors on Daptone Records, with Fields releasing a handful of singles in the early aughts. Now, more than two decades later, Fields has officially joined the Daptone roster, reuniting him with Roth on the 25th anniversary of their first meeting to record Sentimental Fool, a deep, blues-tinged collection expertly showcasing the beauty, power, and raw humanity of Fields’ voice. The album – which features backing from an all-star lineup of Daptone family members including guitarist Thomas Brenneck, bassist Benny Trokan, drummer Brian Wolfe, keyboardists Victor Axelrod and Jimmy Hill, saxophonists Neal Sugarman and Ian Hendrickson-Smith, trumpeter Dave Guy, along with an array of additional guest musicians, backing vocalists – stands tall as a stunning return to Fields’ R&B roots, with songs like “Forever” and “What Did I Do” marking the culmination of an astounding career that has seemed to defy gravity, rising to only greater and greater heights. Brooklyn Magazine: "Lee Fields: Soul Survivor. The legendary soul and funk singer is the subject of a new documentary, 'Lee Fields: Faithful Man'" (Feb 2024) The Levitt Pavilion 2024 Season includes over 50 shows presented free-of-charge (free-ticket shows) - as well as our Stars on Tour paid-ticket series and Gala - to fill your spring, summer and fall with music, performing arts and more.
