A GUIDE TO TAKING COUPLE TRAVEL PHOTOS

Couple travel photos 101: invest in a tripod.

Nearly every couple travel photo you see in this blog post has been taken with a tripod . My husband and I are often the only people around when we travel, particularly if it’s at sunrise or sunset. We simply set our tripod up at the distance and height we want to capture, attach our camera, and snap away!

Using a tripod also means you can take the exact photo you want and don’t have to rely on a stranger getting it wrong. Plus, you avoid the risk of handing your camera to someone you don’t know.

We typically use a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod with a Really Right Stuff ball head + an L bracket for ease of use. You can see an entire list of the camera gear we use to capture couple travel photos in this blog post .

Couple Travel Photos 101: Use the Self Timer

Coromandel Peak New Zealand - Renee Roaming

Couple Travel Photos 101: Use an Intervalometer

We often take couple travel photos from quite far away and very quickly realized how exhausting it is running from the camera and back with a 10 second timer! A wireless remote control shutter release (also known as a remote commander ) is the perfect solution. Just make sure you buy one that works with your camera brand and model! Tip: some cameras have apps that allow your phone to function as a remote, so do your research before buying anything.

Some cameras ( like the one use use from Sony ) have an inbuilt intervalometer , which makes taking couple travel photos SO easy! You can set it up to take photos at a certain interval (e.g. every 3 seconds) and then just pose away until you get a bunch of options. This works the best for when you need to be quite far from the camera as the remote control shutter releases often have a limited range.

Couple Travel Photos 101: Ask for Help

We don’t often ask for help but sometimes we find ourselves without a tripod and no other option. Ask someone who looks like they know how to operate a camera, explain the basics, take a photo to show them how you want the image framed, and then cross your fingers! Obviously use common sense and be careful who you give your gear to.

Better yet, travel with a photographer friend like Berty Mandagie and get killer images like the one above! 😜

Couple Travel Photos 101: Use a Drone

Drones can be pricey but they will take your photography and video game to the next level. When an aerial shot is taken from far away you often can’t tell the “pilot” is holding a controller. My husband and I plan to take more footage with our drone this year, including some selfies! We own the DJI Mavic 2 Pro Drone  and really enjoy using it.

Couple Travel Photos 101: Set Up a Killer Composition

Setting up a killer  composition is another key to getting couple travel photos you will be proud of. One of our top tips is to have you or your partner stand in frame while the other person sets up the shot. This will help you dial in the focus settings and make sure everything is lined in nicely. There is often lots of “move to your left, no not that much, step back” … but it’s worth it to get an amazing composition! I have a downloadable mini guide on taking beautiful travel photos if you want more tips on composition – click here!

Couple Travel Photos 101: Work With the Light

Our preferred time of day to shoot is ‘golden hour’ – the hour or so just after sunrise and before sunset. Everybody and everything looks better in this soft golden light! Plus, destinations are usually much less busy at this time of day too. If you are shooting in the middle of the day then I typically find taking photos in the shade is best, but play around with angles and see how you go!

Couple Travel Photos 101: Mix Things Up

It’s nice to mix things up and have a variety of photos , especially if you are making an album and you don’t want them all to look the same. Here are some ideas for photo compositions and posing:

  • Get a candid walking or hiking shot. Set the tripod up and literally walk past to get a realistic shot of what you are doing. You can stand still and pretend walk if you want a really sharp image (e.g. in low light conditions).
  • If you hike or drive a long way for a specific view, when you first arrive you stand there and take it all in together… right? So capture that moment!
  • Get a photo of you both inside or near your accommodation. This works particularly well with camping photos as they are way more interesting with people in the shot.
  • Try different angles of the same photo. Does it look better from lower down or closer up?
  • A little cliche, but try out a #followmeto style photo (guy holds girl’s hand from behind the camera)
  • Stand next to each other a small distance apart and hold hands. You can look at the camera or at each other, or even be facing away from the camera. This pose is kind of corny but definitely a cute memory to have.
  • Be cheesy and give each other a big smooch!!

Couple Travel Photos 101: Take Your Time

My husband and I often get people stare at us, comment or ask questions when we’re taking photos. It can be embarrassing at times but I just remind myself that they are strangers and I don’t need to care what they think. People also often say things like “wow, that’s such a cool memory to have” and I couldn’t agree more! Take your time getting photos , try different angles, and review your images before heading off.

Really useful article. As I’m traveling alone in my van (a bit like you), I was looking for the most simple way to photograph myself and my van. Thanks for the tips Renee 🙂

Your blog articles are so nice and so helpful I am genuinely pleased to have come to your site

Your photo is very nice. Your picture look i am imprecise. Thanks

Renee, I just discovered you and you’re amazing! Love the couples pictures and hope to try some of these on our way through Canada. However, I would like to caution you and your readers about doing those edgy cliff photos! They are so dangerous! You just have to google the deaths caused by taking these type of pictures just this year and its been incredible! I know I sound like I’m over reacting. Actually my friend and I did those tops at the Cliffs of Moor last year in Ireland! However, after I read about the deaths (Cliffs of Moor, Grand Canyon and more) and the risks people have taken it is insane anymore to take those risks. Just to bring home the point a little more – a friends son wanted his picture (age 19) taken on a cliff. While his friend snapped it, the cliff gave way and he dropped to his death! Please, a picture for a second is not worth it. So many ways to take it and get a beautiful effect! Thanks and I will enjoy reading your blog! You have so many wonderful ideas!

Stunning clicks and amazing location.

Thank you so much for this Renee. Your photographs are stunning. I was wondering which lens do you use while traveling.

I must say really very impressive pictures. You have very good photography skills. I am the one who takes selfie all the time. But your tips are really very helpful.

This was so helpful! The hubby and I are headed to kauaii soon and I’ll def be using some of this tips. ✌?❤️

Thanks for the tips! We usually use a selfie stick but I’d love to up the quality of our pics – maybe it is time to lug around the tripod

What type of chairs are those (red and black) in your picture?

Thanks so much for these tips, I just discovered your page and love all of your beautiful shots.

Thank you so much for this post, it’s so great to hear someone explain it. My husband and I have been trying to get more comfortable with the whole timer thing, but you’re correct it can be slightly embarrassing, haha (:

I fell in love with your photos the moment i saw it on IG. These are amazing shots. Do you still edit everything or do you just upload it as is.

Thank you! Yes I edit all of my photos in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop 🙂

Do you have a video or blog post showing how you edit your photos?

Sorry I don’t currently but I am hoping to make something like that in the future, so stay tuned 🙂

I really enjoyed this post! Can’t wait amazing pictures with the hubby on our next holiday!

That’s interesting. I have to look for a wider range remote mine is out when the camera is more than 5m away… I even never realised that “long” distance remote were available… thank you anayway it was a useful post!

I love this!! Thank you for all the tips! It can be a little embarrassing. Especially if its a really crowded area!

Agreed! I still get embarrassed but just tell myself that I don’t know those people so it really doesn’t matter! Good luck 🙂

Hi Renee! Stunning images and good blog. I was just wondering what camera and lens do you usually bring especially those places that need hiking and trekking?

Hi! Thank you 🙂 I use a Sony system, including the a7ii and various lenses. A good go to lens for me is the Sony 24-70 f4

This is such a great article. I’m always battling to get good pictures with the two of us in it, I dont know why I never thought of a tripod. I am using my phone to take the pictures though, do you know of any good tripods for phones?

Hi Johara. Thank you for the kind words. I don’t know if any particular brands but one of those cheap phone tripods that has bendy legs would be perfect. I think you can find them on Amazon. Good luck!

Hi Renee! I was wondering how you folks took those insanely beautiful pics at Boroka Lookout! Then I stumbled onto this post and it all made sense! I’m a budding (no sorry, fumbling) photographer and I’ve really been struggling with composition. You’ve made this so easy to understand so now I can go ahead and practice that. You’ve made me fall even more in love with photography. Hopefully I can fall in love with my photos soon. Thanks, Astrid

Thanks so much Astrid! I’m glad you found the article helpful 🙂

Great tips! My husband and I have been traveling with our baby, so usually it’s only one of us in the picture, or one of us with our son. It would be nice to have a few more pictures as a family or even as a couple! We’ll have to start thinking about when it will be convenient to bring along a tripod. And it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one that feels super awkward sometimes taking a picture, even when we don’t have a tripod!

Thanks for reading! You’re right, pretty much all of these tips apply to traveling families as well as couples. It can definitely be embarrassing at times but totally worth it for some nice memories 🙂

What an awesome post! Thanks so much for sharing your tips! May I ask, what are your tips to focusing on the right spot (where you will be) when you are setting up the shot? This is one thing I have really been struggling with!

That’s a tricky one. Usually my husband or myself run into the frame so that we can focus the image on one of us before taking the shot together. If you are taking solo photos then I would use manual focus and focus on something that is the same distance from the camera to where you will be standing. This might be the ground or a tree right next to where you will be, as long as it’s the same distance from the camera. I hope that makes sense!

I think I will use all your advices in my next trip!! thank you!

I’m so glad to hear that Madeleine. Enjoy!

Hi Renee! I was so glad I found your blog last year. Love the new update! One thing that your blog stood out to me the most was the simplicity and a sense of peace when I read your blog. Love all your tips and especially this one! I remember asking you about the Norway picture and how you were able to capture a picture so far away. What I enjoy most about your blog is your focus on travel. Whenever I read your content it makes me feel like you value travel above all, and your passion seeps through your words to your readers and as one of many, I appreciate that. Thank you Renee for the tips and inspiring pictures. Can’t wait for more of my own. =)

You’re too kind Faye, I really appreciate that and want to thank you for being such a loyal reader. Happy adventuring 🙂

That is really Sweet! Maybe for my next trip with my girlfriend (: IG: _wynz_

Thanks Fabian! You should definitely try them out 🙂 Your IG gallery is insanely beautiful by the way!

Wow your photos are actually insane! Do you shoot in camera RAW and use lightroom to edit them? Amazing :]

Thank you! Yes I shoot RAW and then edit in Lightroom and Photoshop 🙂

Such beautiful photos! Your blog is stunning. What editing tools do you use? Kimmy x

Thank you Kimmy! I edit my images with Lightroom and Photoshop 🙂

Great blog post Renee, Peter and I have now got practical tips for when we go on our next adventure trip 🙂

Thank you Lois 🙂

Wow, I am in love with your photography! As a landscape photographer, I rarely take photos of me in them. This blog makes me want to change that! Thanks for the tips!

Thanks Kimberly. You totally should! It’s now your challenge for next time you are shooting landscapes 😉 My husband and I often have our tripods set up taking nature/landscape photos and then one or two of us will run into frame and get a portrait shot too!

This is PERFECT! Great ideas and I really appreciate all the explanation…and the tips to not let people looking at you funny stop you from getting that perfect photo. I mean, it’s your memory. Seriously awesome. Thanks 🙂

Thanks Jessica! I couldn’t agree more. I love your blog by the way – you and your partner are so cute!

Fantastic post!!! I laughed at the part about not being embarassed. I’ve had to work on that. Standing with a tripod set up in front of Big Ben helped. hhahah

Oh that would have been interesting! I just checked out your blog and absolutely love it!

Love this post! My husband and I have struggled to take good “couple” photos, but this gave us some much needed inspiration. We have a tripod so now we just need to use it! Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for reading Danielle! Get that tripod out and start snapping :p

OMG! I love this post! I needed this so much, as when we travel as a couple there is rarely a pic where both of us are in it. Also, your photos are truly breathtaking.

Thanks Lena! Now it’s a challenge for your next trip together 😉

Love this! I laughed when you said you give your camera to someone who looks like they know what they’re doing then cross your fingers…. We’ve done that so. many. times… Then waited till they’ve gone and found someone else to try again! hahah. Beautiful shots guys. Particularly love that one from the Grampians!

Thanks Miranda! Haha too true about giving your camera to strangers… you never know what the outcome will be! I just checkout out your blog and absolutely love it!

Some really good tips here. And we really love your photos. What are you using for editing? Are you having a pre-set filter on LR?

Thanks Cory! I use Lightroom and Photoshop to edit my photos. I have created my own presets that I sometimes use on Lightroom, but usually I just edit from scratch. Thanks for reading!

This is such great advice! My boyfriend and I hardly ever get photos together when we travel and when we do, the person taking the photo usually does a horrible job! I have a tripod and really need to start using it more 🙂

You absolutely should! It only takes a minute to set up and you will come away with some awesome memories 🙂

Great tips! My boyfriend and I are so bad with taking pics together on our travels – we always forget! Then get so upset looking through the pics after and realising that we’re in hardly any of them.

Often my husband and I will plan our shots for the day. As in we will know where we are going and talk about the style of photos we might want to capture. That way we pack the right gear and (usually) remember to get all the photos we had planned!

I literally don’t think my bf and I have one good photo together because we’re so awkward, but now I’m feeling inspired to try for some! We just got a drone, so I’m definitely going to take your advice with it. Thanks!

You should definitely give it a try 🙂 Thanks for reading!

I really love the honesty and transparency in which you presented this “how to”. It’s fairly common sense but we all need a reminder. I myself need a push to get past the embarrassment of taking photos as a solo traveler and push the thoughts of “gosh, I look silly doing this by myself” but you’re right. Only you know what kind of shot you want and you know your gear the best. I especially liked the ideas on taking candid photos. Thanks for sharing!

Exactly! Plus I think most of the time people are wishing they had thought to do the same thing and are essentially jealous… and other times people are just curious. Keep on getting those shots Talia!

Wow! Just thought I’d let you know; your pictures are freaking amazing! WOW! Awesome tips by the way!

Thanks so much Melissa, I really appreciate that

What an amazing post! I am doing this with my partner now on.

Thank you and I’m so glad to hear that!

So many great tips in here even for me as a solo traveler! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Sally! Most of these can totally be applied to solo travel 🙂

Your pictures are really impressive. I love your technique and work with light!

Thank you !

Some super shots here. I tend to take photos of my husband but then it looks like he’s travelling solo! For me, it’s mostly about the location and the landscape, but I agree that people “humanise” photos and we subconsciously identify with them better.

Thanks Roxanne. My husband and I like to capture both landscapes/nature and also lifestyle/portrait shots. Often we are taking a landscape photo and one of us will just run into the shot to make it more relatable and also so we can remember the moment better!

These shots are stunning, and I love following you on IG! Tripods are indeed the way to go… But my boyfriend and I are often too lazy to carry the tripod, so we often end up just propping up the camera on a ledge and setting it on interval timer mode, haha. Need to invest in a remote for sure!

Thanks Alex! Ledges, rocks etc. are great for make-shift tripods, though sometimes there is literally nothing to put a camera safely on. It does suck to carry the tripod on long hikes though!

I am swooning over this post! I love your IG feed and these pictures would stop anyone in their tracks. I love the pointers in this article as well and I think the most important thing is to not be embarrassed. I’d rather have the memory than the moment of embarassment.

Absolutely! It is hard sometimes to not be embarrassed in the moment though… I’m getting better at it! Thanks for reading 🙂

I absolutely love these shots! I can’t wait to start practicing with my boyfriend and get more shots of us two on vacation that aren’t selfies

Thanks for reading Stacey! Good luck with your travels and photo capturing!

Your photos are absolutely incredible – thank you for sharing your priceless tips! It will definitely help us to up our game 🙂 Would love to see you at the Facebook community of romantic explorers @RomantiExplorers – please feel free to share your inspirational blogs there too!

Thank you Michelle!

Wow these are all such great tips and I actually do a lot of these when traveling solo! Love your photos!

Thanks Aubrie! Yeah I should have mentioned that these tips are perfect for solo travelers as well!

thanks for inspiration! We actually have a tripod, but my husband mainly uses it for taking pictures of birds and scenery haha – I will send him this article. And wow! Blown away by these pictures! Nice job! hugs, Nana

Challenge yourself next time and try to capture a nice photo of the two of you together. He might think it’s silly at first but you will have some beautiful printable memories 🙂

These are great tips, and wow you have such beautiful photographs! Followed you on Instagram as a result of discovering this 🙂

Thank you Kiara!

Longtime Instagram fan of yours here, so I love this! Y’all always capture the most gorgeous light and it’s so sweet to have both of you in the shot!

Thanks so much Emily! I really appreciate that 🙂

Love this!! x

Thank you 🙂

Love this Renee! You and Matt are the real life dream team 😉 xo

Aw thanks so much!!

Thanks for the tips. We’ll have to try a few of these out. Keep up the great work.

I loved reading this post! My boyfriend and I have been trying to take better photos of our travels and this is super helpful!

Thanks so much Sarah! I’m glad you found it helpful 🙂

I'm trying to book the Hyatt Place FLL thru Valuetrips for 1 night in March. Their website doesn't show 2022 rates yet. I tried calling and sending them an email and no one ever responds. Before I fill out the reservation form and submit my CC info, I want to know the rate and cancellation policy. Anyone have recent good experience with them?  cancellation policy? Another way to contact them? Thanks

I am in the same boat !  We booked with Valuetrips for this coming November, but will need a room in March also. I have also called and left emails to no avail. I will check my confirmation for my November reservation but I believe it is refundable and I deal directly with the hotel for any changes. I do know the Hyatt Place where we are staying is no longer booking rooms for that night, so I called them to confirm reservation and they confirmed I am booked.  If I hear anything I will post and if you hear anything, I’d appreciate it if you let me know.

Thanks for the info! And yes I will definitely post if I hear anything.

How long ago did you make your reservation for November?

My confirmation says it is able to be cancelled 24 hours before arrival.  I booked in February 2021.   Diane

Update:  I got an email back from them today finally. They said rates for 2022 should be posted by end of October so I should wait till then to book it.  And cancellation is 24 hours before.

Thanks so much for the update!

Did you ever get booked for march? How do you cancel, by email?  Don’t they have a phone number?

I just checked and Valuetrip is still only showing 2021 rates. Would like to book for a Feb 2022 cruise.

As far as cancelling....Once you make a reservation with VT you then can deal directly with the hotel...so it's the hotel you contact to cancel. Just call the hotel and give them your name and dates of stay....easy peasy !!

Okay thanks!  I only see 2021 on their website. I wonder if they are still in business?  I sent a request for a booking in Jan and explained it’s for 2022.  Has anyone heard from them?

They were supposed to open their 2022 bookings in late October...so who knows.

I wouldn't count on them at this point...Try booking the Hyatt Place directly as a member at least you'll get a confirmed reservation. Our last booking (Oct 2019) for the Hyatt we opted for this as there was no difference and it included breakfast. Best of luck !

No I never booked with them. They still only show 2021 rates. I emailed them again last week and never got a response. I booked on my own...if they update it before March I will try to book with them since I think it will be a lot cheaper. But it's not looking too good since it takes them forever to respond lol

Be very careful with sending multiple emails to ValueTrips.

I called Hyatt Place directly to cancel (good thing I did) and they had 2 reservations in my name for the same dates. I think it's because I sent 2 reminder emails for my booking request to ValueTrips.

yes, usually in 2-3 days

Thanks for the update for 2022.  I have been waiting for the 2022 release.

Today, I have booked for Dec 1 and 10, 2022.

I will post when I receive my confirmations.

Last time, I stayed at the hotel, there was a free continental breakfast, it looks like now they charge $11/pp for a hot breakfast.

Glad you got a response.  I tried to book on Nov 28, sent a request for Jan and Feb.  Never heard from them.

Try again to book.  When I first went on their site today, it showed prices for 2021.  I wanted to see what would happen if I click to book and it showed date - January-Dec, 1-31, 2022.  I went back to Home and it showed 2022 prices without taxes.

Valuetrip’s price for Hyatt’s 2022  - Dec 1 for $129 (no tax) and Dec 10 for $149 (no tax).

I have booked Holiday Inn for Dec 1 for $248.60 with tax and Dec 10 for $342.39 with tax.

How to Display your Travel Photos

To support this website, at no extra cost to you, we may earn revenue on links within this post. As an Amazon associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

When we’re not traveling, we’re dreaming of travel. One of the ways we love to dream about travel is to look through our travel pictures. This means, of course, that we have to get our travel pictures off our mobile devices, hard drives, phones, and camera sd cards and on to display them for all to see. What do you do with your travel photos, or how do you display your travel photos?

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to do with travel pictures? I’ve included some DIY and some done-for-you options, so if you don’t feel extra crafty, don’t sweat it! Learn how to display your travel photos with these traditional, fun, or innovative ideas.

Table of Contents

Sources for Printing Your Travel Photos

If we’re going to talk about how to display your travel photos, we need to start with printing. We’ll cover some other ways without printing below, but for now, assume we need to get those digital photos off your phone or your camera.

Printing Services

Traditionally, one of the easier ways to get physical copies of your photos is by using printing services at places such as Walgreens or CVS Photo . I like that for most prints, you have a same-day option. So if we’re feeling super motivated, waiting on delivery won’t stop us!

Snapfish and Shutterfly have also been around for a long time and often have great deals. It’s worth comparing prices for prints across a few of these, and then pick one and stick with it. The last thing you want to do is try to remember who you uploaded your photos with. While these sites are usually popular to create photo books and photo albums, you can opt for full-size photos for displays.

Another good idea, and best if you want to print single photos on a whim, is to invest in a decent photo printer. I like working with Hp Printers because of their HP instant ink program . Enroll for a small monthly charge, based on how many pages you print, and always have ink on hand. It’s cheaper than buying ink. The HP Envy works well with Bluetooth and your phone. Reviews seem pretty great about printing photos as well.

The HP Sprocket Select Photo Printer is possibly the best thing I’ve seen to bring with you on the go. Full-color photos and Bluetooth allow you to print images on the go. It’s only 3.5 by 5 inches long, so it’s perfect to keep in your purse or camera bag. I like the idea of using this printer to use as thank you cards when you’re traveling as well.

Do you have old photos sitting in photo storage boxes? Or what about negatives or slides? An easy way to share those with your family members is to invest in a negative scanner.

The Kodak Slide n Scan is super easy to use and can scan 35mm, 126, 110 film negatives and slides to 22mp resolution digital images. It’s a great option to save old prints and family photos to digital storage, an external hard drive, flash drives, or even Google drive. From there, you can print your favorite family vacation memories.

If your photo collection isn’t in negative form, but you have lots of photos from days gone by, a photo scanner might be the best option. The Plustek Photo scanner scans photos in seconds. I like this over a traditional printer flatbed scanner as you can continue to feed photos into it. That way if you have a large amount of precious memories to save, you’re not constantly stopping to replace what is on the flatbed.

Have you seen Mixtiles yet? These are easy 8×8 “tiles” that you select from their app, and at $13 each, turn into wall art. You can do borderless, black or white frames. I think these will lend well with gallery wall ideas below.

Chatbooks is another one that has easy peel & stick gallery wall tiles. If you want slightly bigger than Mixtiles, Chatbooks wall tiles are 10×10.

Travel Pictures Gallery Wall Ideas

Now that you have your photos printed, how do you display them? Gallery walls are perhaps the most popular of the choices.

Below you can see some of the ideas for collages and gallery walls. Pinterest is a great source for gallery wall ideas if you need further inspiration.

Personally, I like the clean frame look to better show off your travel photos. I would recommend a simple white or black frame with a white mat. You can choose to mix up sizes or keep them all the same size. I do think this is where Mixtiles or Chatbooks appeal to me more. However, I have friends that do amazing gallery walls. in their homes, it’s just not as easy for me.

These are a couple that I love.

36 Beautiful Living Room Wall Gallery Decorating Ideas

Canvas Prints

If you do or don’t do a gallery wall, canvas prints might be the way to do it. Snapfish has a host of canvas wall art options.

If you have a rustic look, go for this pallet sign to immortalize your favorite travel photo.

Personalized Photo Mug

You’ve seen those photo mugs where you can put pictures of your kids. They always look a little, well, basic, to me. However I did find this photo mug, that would be great in your kitchen or on the go. I like that it looks a little more artistic.

Personalized Travel Blanket

A photo blanket is another great way to show off your favorite travels. Imagine a cushy plush blanket draped over your sofa or one of your chairs in your living room, filled with stunning photos of your favorite trips. I don’t know about you, but this would definitely get me dreaming of my favorite places as I doze off under the blanket. And if it’s a vacation in Maine , this doubles as a cozy reminder of that trip.

family with photo blanket

One of the ways I love how to display your travel photos is to incorporate them with a map.

I’ve seen this done in a variety of ways. It can be with postcards or Polaroid-style images glued near a map.

Get a 50 States photo map collage . What I like about this particular one is that it has inner borders that help contain all the state cutouts and make it easier to cut and place your state photos. Plus, it even comes with a map maker tool that you can print the photos just as you need them!

US Photo Map

I also like these individual state prints from Minted that include either an outline of the state or your photos within the whole state.

Wall Calendar

Do you have a wall calendar in your home? I know in the age of digital, we may not need a wall calendar, but I always like the at a glance option of looking month to month. Of course, you can fully personalize a calendar to include your travel photos or feature places you’ll travel that month.

See personalized calendars at Shutterfly.

Digital Frame

You could go for a digital frame to display your photos, but I want something as simple as possible. That’s why I would choose a Google Nest Hub or a Google Nest Hub Max . I use Google Photos to back up my photos on my phone (even though it’s an iPhone, more bang for the buck.) So it’s easy to get those photos to display on a Google Nest Hub. Plus you get all the smart home features with a Google Nest hub. Go for the Google Nest Hub Max to use to make video calls. Buy at Staples and get Free Shipping or Free Pick up.

Vision Board

Use your travel pictures for a vision board. If you have a favorite place you’ve traveled, again and again, put these photos in your vision board. Having a vision board inspires the whole family that we will travel again. Set aside some time this weekend to put your travel pictures in your travel vision board .

Paint Your Photos

If you’re feeling extra crafty you can take one of your favorite photos and attempt to recreate it in a watercolor form. Of course, again, someone on Etsy can do it for you .

Ceramic Tiles

Make a big statement with ceramic tiles. This one is 12″ x 12″ but they come in all sizes. Check them out at Image Snap .

MY RAFTING PHOTOS

Whitewater Rafting Photography

On The American River, California

Quality, Value, Service & Licensing

My Rafting Photos is dedicated to producing the highest quality American River rafting photos on three forks of The American River.   More Locations, higher pixel count, best value and unparalleled customer service.

Whitewater Rafting Video

High Speed Video equates to Slow Motion.  This video was shot almost entirely at 120 frames per second (120 fps).  This allows you to see the guides working to control the rafts and all the unique facial expressions of joy and excitement as the whitewater rafts and kayaks crash through the frothy whitewater of The American River!

Raft Guides & River Community

Fun loving, energetic, talented in so many respects, and free spirited...  These are the people that lead you on your next river adventure.  These are the people I am fortunate enough to work with daily.

This collection of California River Guides is from years of running rivers and working as a photographer on The American River in Northern California.

Candids & Lifestyle

There is more to whitewater Rafting than just whitewater and rapids. It's a compilation of moments that happen throughout any given day that lead to the benefits of such an activity.  People come to the river for several reasons including relaxation, bonding, escape, team building, exercise, and to experience new challenges.

Do you remember the first time you jumped off a high-dive at the public pool?  How about jumping off of a rock into a cool river?  These are major moments in life that people often remember in years to come.

This is a collection of these moments captured as I paddle down river with my camera.  How cool is it that these memories can now last a lifetime?

Jump into the river and the PFD's floatation rockets you out of the water. Cool sunglasses too.

Peak Action

When most people book their rafting trip, this is what they typically sign up for.  It is at this moment that nothing else in the world matters.  It is at this moment, as water explodes all around you that you feel a vulnerability, your slightly out of control and Mother nature is in charge... and I am the one capturing that split second moment in time.

This collection of images puts the whitewater in Whitewater Rafting!

About The Photographer

Scott Blankenfeld has been whitewater rafting, kayaking, and shooting photos for 30 years.  His career on the American River started in 1994 when he joined a guide school in order to gain summer employment.  He was soon hooked and has since worked nearly all aspects of a river related business, including: guiding rafts, interning and volunteering for a national whitewater non-profit, managing a whitewater kayaking school, and owning and operating his own whitewater rafting company that he founded in 2010.

In the early days, Scott shot on a fully manual Olympus 35mm film camera.  In 2011, he upgraded his camera gear and began capturing imagery for his customers and to market his and other businesses.  Although he always enjoyed photography and has had photos published in The American Whitewater Journal, Canoe & Kayak Magazine and for commercial use on websites, it was at this time when he became serious about his photography.

Five years later, Scott sold his rafting company and has been shooting full time ever since.  Fast forward to present, he celebrates 30 years of working on the American River where he is grateful to be shooting California's leading whitewater rafting company, American Whitewater Expeditions , as a photographer and content creator.

How to Display Travel Souvenirs

The biggest problem of shopping for souvenirs around the world comes with storing or making the most of them.

People often ask us:

  • How to display travel souvenirs?
  • How to organize travel souvenirs?
  • How to store travel souvenirs after a holiday?
  • How to keep travel souvenirs?
  • How to decorate with travel souvenirs?
  • What should I do with my cruise or trips memorabilia?
  • What are some good collections to start, and what do you do with them?

These are our top 14 tips on how to display souvenirs from travel.

No.1: Interior Decorating with Travel Souvenirs

Be inspired by house designers .

Here’s the hot tip on how to decorate with travel souvenirs.

Group travel purchases of the same nature together to make a harmonious vignette.

This is like a “ pocket-size table arrangement that tells a story about you and your home”.

You can do this:

  • on a side table
  • on an entry table
  • on a dresser, or
  • on a runner on your dining table.

The trick is to leave space between items , and not have too many items cluttering up the area.

The answer to how to display plants or how to display seashells is much the same.

Group similar treasures together

You can also display a collection of similar objects together to make a travel souvenir display.

For example:

  • all your clocks on one wall
  • all your red and white toadstools on a timber shelf by the window
  • all your vintage glass bottles in a sunny spot to catch the light
  • all the bright embroidered cushions together on one couch
  • all the special themed handmade items in one corner of the room

How to organize travel souvenirs? Group heights and sizes together

Build a DIY cabinet to size to store a complete collection to store all the things you collect, such as:

  • all the different sodas and soft drinks in glass bottles
  • cereal boxes (be sure to visit the Cereal Killer cafe in London !)
  • wine bottles
  • sauces & condiments
  • beer bottles

This makes a colorful cheery display!

Hot tip: If you’ve drunk the contents before it goes out of date, fill the empty bottle with colored water to maintain the visual effect.

Color Code your travel gifts & souvenir ideas

Display your travel souvenirs by color.

Put all the green souvenirs together in one place.

Or color code them in a rainbow.

There’s no rules!

It’s lockable too.

vintage travel keepsake box with key

No.3 Travel Keepsake Box for special travel memorabilia

A travel memory box is a way to store your valuable or nostalgic travel mementoes that don’t need to go on display.

This wooden keepsake box can be used to store:

  • printed photos you never want to lose
  • excess currency
  • handwritten letters
  • postcard collections from your adventures

No.4: Travel Display Shelving

Pigeon hole cabinet for a mug collection display.

Purchase a special pigeon hole cabinet with lots of separate shelf areas and store one collectible in each section.

For example, one handcrafted ceramic teacup or mug in each space to form a big visible collection of cups and drinking utensils such as Finnish kuksa cups.

nail polish collection on floating shelves by yannes-kiefer

Image credit: Yannes Kiefer  via Unsplash CC0

Floating Shelves Souvenir Display Case

Add two or three rows of floating shelves to your wall and line your collectibles, such as your entire nail polish collection from abroad, or shot glasses, along it.

Floating shelves should be placed at a height that is preferably out of reach of kids to keep your travel knick knacks safe.

For fun, you can add a good quality, cinema style lightbox to the shelf, and write an artistic description about the collection.

Can’t think of the perfect narrative?

Try finding a meaningful or relevant line from a poem or reading a favorite book to spark your inspiration.

This would also be one way how to display kids art.

vintage cabinet by jens-behrmann

Vintage shelves display cabinet

Or, find a fabulous vintage cabinet and do the same.

The best thing about a vintage cabinet is the unusual shelving layout, where not all shelves are the same size, width or height.

This adds visual interest, but also allows to you group your travel souvenirs together, despite them being different heights or widths.

You can also place super tall items on TOP of the cabinet.

This makes them a focus point, as this draws your eye to them in the room.

glass cake stand storage

No.5: Storage Solutions for Travel Knick Knacks

Glass dome displays for your vacation souvenirs.

Buy a few glass domes, or a clear glass cake stand , and store your favourite dolls, toys, and items under the lid.

Place a few domes or cake stands IN A ROW for extra points.

This is the ultimate travel knick knack display.

  • die cast cars
  • sewing thimbles
  • colored pencils
  • lipgloss tubes

maggift memento storage boxes

Travel Shadow Box displays

Wondering what to put in a shadow box ?

Buy a memento shadow box to store your excess coins, odd currency notes you no longer need, small trinkets, ticket stubs etc

Travel Shadow Box Bank

You can also buy a travel shadow box piggy bank.

Fill the front of the vacation shadow box bank with travel inspiration, travel motivation quotes, or your favorite travel mementos.

Add all your spare coins and notes to this unique money box for your next trip!

Make a travel display collage of all your:

  • paper tickets
  • airline tickets
  • boarding passes

Make a wire display for your travel mementos

And this is another solution to how to display kids art, or how to display Disney photos too.

Set up a slide show on your computer as a screensaver

If there’s no other spare space, a screensaver slide show will save the day!

how to display travel magnets 800

USE your dish towels (aka, tea towels or dish cloth) when you cook your lunch or dinner, or bake goodies for friends.

Wash your face with your plant-dyed shibori face cloths from Kyoto.

Pop your bottle openers in the dish drawer.

Eat from your ceramic dishes, enjoy your shaving brushes, and drink from your travel coffee mugs so you can feel the joy they bring every single day!

I LOVE drinking from my Snoopy mug from the Charlie Brown cafe in Hong Kong.

It’s the one I carried around the world for 6 weeks in my suitcase.

(Forever grateful it made it home in one piece.)

Celine Dion

Ooh la la, Celine.

Celine Dion opened up about her struggle with stiff person syndrome in a new interview with Vogue France , looking vibrant as she strutted her stuff in a braless look for one of two May 2024 cover shots.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer, 56, posed topless under a white button-down shirt by Balenciaga on the first version of the cover, covering her chest with one hand as she puckered her lips and held the other hand in the air.

Celine Dion

The legendary star added a tiny white athletic skirt by the designer and black Calzedonia tights in the photoshoot, which was orchestrated by celebrity stylist Law Roach and photographed by Cass Bird.

In a second cover shot, the “I Drove All Night” singer rocked a fuzzy tiered wool coat by Alaïa along with matching pink pumps, wearing the pastel look off her shoulders like an evening gown.

She posed with the coat pulled up to completely cover her head in another pic, with only her legs and ankle-strap heels visible in the shot.

Celine Dion

Dion, who announced she was battling a rare neurological disease called stiff person syndrome in late 2022, opened up about her condition to Vogue, sharing, “I haven’t beat the disease, as it’s still within me and always will be. I hope that we’ll find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it.”

The “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” singer continued that she goes through five days of intense “athletic, physical and vocal therapy” every week.

“Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself,” Dion said, adding “I want to be the best I can be.”

As for her relationship with fashion, the “Power of Love” singer said she makes a point to not accept freebies.

Celine Dion

“I have always bought everything myself. I didn’t want to borrow,” she told Vogue France, explaining it was “a form of respect.”

“People pay to come and hear me sing, so I pay to buy myself clothes by designers,” Dion said.

At the end of the day, the pop icon said she was “honored” to be asked to pose in Vogue France this year since she “had better health and beauty at 30” but “didn’t get asked to do one then.”

“I am very proud that at 55, I am being asked to reveal my beauty,” she said, concluding, “Today, I am a woman, who feels strong and positive about the future. One day at a time.”
