Led by local foodie, Alex Cain, spend the morning on a culinary walking tour through downtown Lexington learning about our deep agricultural roots and booming food scene. With inventive and field-to-fork cuisine at every turn and local chefs on a mission to showcase our unique southern flavors, this city is undergoing a culinary movement.
Tours begin at the Lexington Visitors Center inside our newly restored historic courthouse. Tours end with a visit to the Saturday Lexington Farmers’ Market adjacent to the courthouse. Alex will share information about Kentucky food traditions and historical facts while she takes you to some of the best restaurants in downtown. Hear from the chefs themselves at most stops, while enjoying locally-sourced bite-sized offerings.
*Tours are rain or shine and last about two hours. All walking takes place within a three block radius.

Whether it was gathering around a fire or a dinner table, or slipping out of bed to eavesdrop on her parents' cocktail parties, Alex grew up surrounded by taletellers. The art of a good story was the natural result of being raised in an extended Kentucky family that prioritized food, drink, and hospitality.
During her high school years Alex cooked at several Lexington restaurants, and surrounded by a cast of unbeatable characters, sharpened both her culinary and storytelling chops. While receiving her B.A. in philosophy at the University of Virginia and her Juris Doctorate at the University of South Carolina, these skills came in handy whether she was hosting a supper club or practicing an oral argument.
It wasn’t until she was studying for the bar exam and living in Nashville, TN, that she got back into the professional kitchen, cooking for pop-up ramen concept Otaku South. Somewhere in between slinging noodles and completing the bar exam Alex decided to change course, harness her love of both hospitality and writing, and pursue a career in public relations. With a Tennessee law license in hand Alex moved to New York City to join the Wagstaff Worldwide team, where she represented incredible restaurants and hospitality brands in New York City and beyond.
In the summer of 2014 Alex signed on as an Account Manager at RVD Communications in Brooklyn, working with some of the most interesting clients in the hospitality and lifestyle realm. With a desire to share the stories of the people and businesses of the place that she loves most, Alex returned to Kentucky in the summer of 2015 to create Kindling.
Alex has since returned to the practice of law, but her love of food and food culture have not been left behind. Curating a local food tour and sharing her love of the foods of home scratch her culinary itch beyond her own home kitchen.
