Karol G

After captivating a sea of blue-wig-wearing fans at Coachella , Colombian singer-songwriter Karol G has officially announced the dates for her new “$trip Love Tour.”

The tour, produced by AEG Presents, will visit 30 cities in North America starting with the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, on September 6. The circuit will also make stops in New York, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas and more before wrapping in Vancouver, BC on October 29. The full itinerary appears below.

Since the start of her global breakthrough, Karol has surpassed many important milestones in her career, with Coachella being the latest. The two-weekend festival saw the singer paying tribute to Latin American pop culture with a musical showcase on the world-class stage honoring Selena, Shakira and more.

Karol was also accompanied by special guest Becky G , with whom she sang her successful collaboration, “MAMIII.” On weekend two, J Balvin joined her on stage as a surprise to perform his hit “Mi Gente.”

Popular on Variety

And although we’ve heard Karol on a myriad of features and collaborations (most recently on “Un Viaje,” with Jotaerre and Alejo), she also premiered a new tropical pop song on the festival stage titled “Provenza.”

Just in time for summer, “Provenza” merges reggaeton melodies and afro-beats to support the catchy chorus: “Baby, ¿qué más?” The single was released alongside an accompanying music video shot in the Canary Islands and directed by Pedro Artola.

Her previous 2021 “Bichota Tour” was her first U.S. round-about and sold out in multiple locations. This time around, Karol promises to deliver her greatest hits on 30 stages across the U.S. for her biggest tour to date, “Strip Love Tour.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 29 at noon local time.

The Colombian singer's $trip Love Tour marks the start of a new era.

Karol G brought a bit of Colombia to Brooklyn last week.

With her $trip Love Tour, the "Bichota" singer has been promoting her new album, KG0516, all over the world. She touched down at Brooklyn's Barclays Center for a sold-out show, and BAZAAR.com got an exclusive look behind the scenes. In a series of photos by Karol's tour photographer, Christopher Cornejo, fans can see the Colombian superstar get glammed up before the show, interact with fans, and perform her Latin Grammy Award-winning music.

The massive setlist for the night included hits and fan favorites like her most recent single, "Gatúbela"; her spring 2022 single, "Provenza"; and her smash hit, "Tusa." The show was all about the theatrics, with Karol making her entrance onstage in a giant thorny heart and taking a dance break in a flying Ferrari in front of an audience of almost 20,000 fans.

The $trip Love Tour has helped kick off a new era for Karol G, who teased fans earlier this summer that she was getting ready to release new music ahead of her tour—an announcement that corresponded with a major hair change . "I wanted to tell you that $trip Love Tour is amazing and that soon new music is coming," Karol G shared on social media following her New York City stadium shows.

Her music video for "Gatúbela" and the $trip Love Tour are making it clear that the star is leaning into a more sultry and sensual image, with her music sure to follow suit.

Karol G’s Strip Love Tour: An Unforgettable Experience

Karol G, kicked off her 30-city USA “ Strip Love Tour ” on September sixth in Chicago, IL at the Allstate Arena. Carolina Giraldo Navarro, known professionally as Karol G , is a Columbian singer/songwriter, who is predominantly categorized as a reggeaton and Latin trap artist. In 2018 she won a Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist and has been nominated for several Billboard Latin Music Awards and Premios Lo Nuestro. She launched her career as a teenager appearing on the Columbian spinoff for X factor. Her collaboration with Bad Bunny for “Ahora Me Llama” became her breakthrough record off of her debut album “Unstoppable”. Since then she’s become one of the most successful female Latin artists globally, her single “China” released in 2019 in collaboration with Anuel AA, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, became her first music video with over 1 Billion views on Youtube. Her song “Tusa” featuring Nicki Minaj, was certified 28x Platinum by RIAA, staying on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs for 25 weeks. In 2020, Karol G received four Latin Grammy nominations and achieved her highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot100 charts with her top 20 song, “Mamiii” in collaboration with Becky G. The anticipation of her 2022 tour, comes as no surprise with the incredible success she has had thus far.

I had the opportunity to be in the building at her Atlanta, GA tour stop, this was by far the best concerts I have ever attended, truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish! From the incredible light show and choreography to the floating Moon/Ferrari and stage design that allowed her fans an up-close experience of her show. Celebrity stylist, Kris Shelby was in attendance with me, not too familiar with Karol G’s music (with his primary language being English) became an instant fan! She performed her biggest hits like Provenza, Bichota, Tusa, Culpables, Ahora Me Llama, Gatubela and many others. This show takes you on a journey through love, heartbreak, and empowerment, with an incredibly raw and honest approach. Karol G, opens up to her fans about her journey throughout the show, the ups and downs, the creative inspiration behind some of her biggest hits, and holds a dance-off for two lucky fans, where the winner takes home $1,000 in cash. The “Strip Love Tour” is a must-see!

Karol G Almost Gave Up on Music, Now, She’s Selling Out Madison Square Garden

karol g strip love tour wikipedia

Two nights ago (Sep. 13), New York City was the place to be when Karol G brought her electrifying $trip Love Tour to a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden. With fun pre-show activities, special celebrity guests, and a dance contest with a hefty cash prize, La Bichota pulled all the stops to make her MSG debut an unforgettable night.

Hoy, después de 10 años de anotarlo en mi lista de sueños, VOY A CANTAR EN EL MADISON SQUARE GARDEN EN NEW YORK✨✨✨✨🥺❤️‍🔥 — LABICHOTA (@karolg) September 13, 2022

“Today, 10 years after writing it down in my list of dreams, I’m going to sing at Madison Square Garden in New York!” shared the Colombian singer on her Twitter account prior to the show.

It’s almost hard to believe that less than a year ago, Karol G performed at the smaller, albeit sold-out, Hulu Theater below The Garden as part of her 2021 Bichota Tour. Since then, Karol G has performed at Coachella , traded in her signature blue hair for a fiery new red bundle , and continued dominating streaming charts .

It’s worth mentioning that the $trip Love Tour isn’t in support of a new studio album, and Karol G only released a string of hit singles since her last stateside shows. The $trip Love Tour is a brand-new large-scale spectacle built for arenas. From the more than 20,000 fans of all backgrounds and creeds that stood to their feet for the entire show on Tuesday night, it’s abundantly clear why Karol G graduated to larger venues in 2022.

The immersion into Karol G’s world began before we even set foot into the building, as Madison Square Garden was lit up in the colors of the Colombian flag. Fans waiting outside the arena were properly dressed for an all-night party, donning Bichota-inspired looks and Karol G merchandise. Of course, there was no shortage of red and blue hair amongst this crowd. Past the gates, ticketholders received wristbands that would light up during different parts of the show.

In partnership with the singer, AT&T was on site to provide fans with some unique pre-show experiences to document the concert. In the lower concourse, the Karol G Photo Booth had concertgoers lining up to pose with La Bichota for a virtually personalized photo. The “Music Video” booth had even more fans ready for their close-ups. With colorful lights and a professional camera operator, fans brought the action. After showing off their best moves, they received a fully produced 10-second music video clip. These fun digital mementos were sent immediately to the fan’s mobile devices to share on social media or with the group chat. Fans could also scan a QR code to take selfies with an exclusive Karol G filter.

Inside the arena, Agueldo 888 got the crowd pumped up with an energetic reggaeton DJ set. At 9 p.m., the lights dimmed, and the crowd leaped to their feet as Karol G made her grand entrance inside a barbed wire heart to the opening chords of “GATÚBELA” while flames encircled beneath her. La Bichota then sang through a marathon of hits accompanied by her enthusiastic legion of fans. Whether she was flying through the crowd in a Ferrari while singing “Makinon” or hitting choreography with her pack of dancers, the crowd was eating the entire show up. You could feel how The Garden was packed to the brim by the ovation alone.

karol g strip love tour wikipedia

To get the crowd even more riled up, Karol G brought out Ozuna as a surprise guest, and they performed their “Caramelo” remix together for the first time, followed by the monster hit “China.”

Karol G Ozuna_Madison Square Garden

For the second surprise of the night, rapper Maldy came out for a reprise of “GATÚBELA,” which also marked their first time performing the single together.

An unexpected and touching moment during the show was when Karol G told the crowd about the time she almost quit music and how playing Madison Square Garden is a dream come true: “In 2012, I said I didn’t want to do music anymore because it’s a tough industry. No one wanted to listen to my songs, and no one wanted to give me an opportunity. So I moved to New York, and I started to study English at a school in Manhattan.”

She recounted how she used to sit down on some benches outside Madison Square Garden to practice her English with the people she encountered, but also to dream. “To dream about what could have been if I stayed in music and if I sang at Madison Square Garden. I swear to God, I’m not saying things just to say them or to rile you up. My only intention is to tell you that I started in 2006. It’s now 2022, and it’s the first time I’m selling out this place with a capacity like this. Asi que, sí se puede! ”

Another highlight was the concert’s dance contest, where a few lucky fans get picked from the crowd to have a dance-off for a $1,000 cash prize. While this competition is held nightly on tour, Karol G upped the anty to mark the special occasion of playing her bucket list venue and revealed a whopping $10,000 cash prize. “10 thousand for whoever gets up here and tears up the Bichota’s stage,” she said.

Even as the show began to wind down, there were no signs of the fans letting up. After a brindis with “200 COPAS,” the crowd was relentless during hits like “PROVENZA” and “TUSA” through the very end when Karol closed out the show with “MAMIII.”

It’s no longer a question if Karol G has the star power and command to hold it down at larger venues like her male contemporaries do. As she demonstrated last night through her triumphant MSG debut, this is Karol G’s world, and we’re all just living in it. So grab a red wig and join the party.

The $trip Love Tour will continue to play U.S. cities through Nov.
