After Eras Tour Triumphs, Taylor Swift Finds Trouble in Brazil

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour broke records in North America, but has faced tragedy and mishaps during a three-day stretch of concerts in Rio de Janeiro.

Amanda Holpuch reported from New York and Leonardo Coelho and Flávia Milhorance from Rio de Janeiro.

Taylor Swift was welcomed to Brazil on Thursday by a projection that made the world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro appear as if it were clad in a T-shirt similar to the one she wore in her “You Belong With Me” music video and was decorated with the names of Brazilian states and symbols from her songs.

But tragedy and trouble have followed that warm welcome.

A fan died in the sweltering heat at Friday night’s show in Rio de Janeiro. At the 11th hour, Swift postponed her Saturday show until Monday, to the dismay of thousands of fans who had already started filling the stadium. The military police said a fan who was in Rio de Janeiro for the regularly scheduled concert on Sunday was stabbed to death earlier that morning.

The fatalities and other problems were a departure from the triumphant first leg of Swift’s Eras Tour, a career-spanning production that broke records in North America. As the tour’s second show in Rio de Janeiro approached on Sunday night, fans grappled with ruined travel plans, extreme heat and disappointment.

Anne Di Motta, 30, a psychologist in São Paulo, Brazil, was supposed to attend the Saturday night show and said she would be returning home before the rescheduled concert on Monday because she had to work.

“I spent the last 17 years waiting for the opportunity to go, to fulfill my teenage dream of meeting someone I’ve known since her first single,” Di Motta said. “And to be sitting three hours in a chair, completely wet with sweat, having to overcome several personal challenges to be there completely alone, to receive the news that it was canceled — it was completely devastating.”

The Saturday night show was postponed because of the extreme temperatures, Swift said in an Instagram post hours before the concert was supposed to begin at an open-air soccer stadium. “The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first,” she said.

At that point, thousands of fans had traveled to see Swift, enduring the peak of the day’s heat, which reached 93 degrees Fahrenheit, or 34 degrees Celsius, before they were asked to leave the venue. Reuters reported that the heat index, a measure of how hot it feels when humidity and other factors are considered along with the temperature, reached 59.7 degrees Celsius, or 139.5 degrees Fahrenheit, in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, a record.

A representative for Swift did not immediately respond to emailed questions about the postponement of the Saturday show.

The Rio shows came after Swift performed in Argentina , the first stop on the Eras Tour outside North America. She had to move one show in Buenos Aires because of a storm. She is scheduled to perform in São Paulo on Nov. 24, Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, before traveling next year to cities across South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Julia Alvarenga, a social media influencer, was in the stadium when the concert was postponed and said in a video shared widely online that she had arrived for the show at 11 a.m. “Taylor Swift, I’m wearing a geriatric diaper that doesn’t even close on me,” Alvarenga said.

“I bought water, I bought a fan, everyone is crying, screaming, so you show up on this stage!” Alvarenga said.

Gabriela Werner, 24, a marketing analyst, bought tickets for each show in Rio and two in São Paulo, and said she started preparing for the heat three months ago by working out in a gym without air conditioning in the middle of the day. She lives in Porto Alegre, about 700 miles southwest of Rio.

While waiting in line for Sunday night’s concert, Werner said the atmosphere was much calmer than that of the Friday show. “It’s not so hot, and everyone’s kind of holding back because of the nights before and everything that happened,” she said.

She did not expect Swift to return to Brazil. “I’m sure she’s traumatized,” Werner said.

Werner, like many other fans, blamed the Brazilian company that organized the show, Time for Fun, for the problems. Wadih Damous, the head of Brazil’s consumer protection agency, said the government would investigate Time for Fun. The company said on Saturday that it would add staff, provide free water and allow fans to enter the stadium with water and food.

As crowds left the stadium on Saturday night, there were reports of unrest near the site, the police said.

After Matheus Duarte, 24, a warehouse worker, left the stadium and went to a shopping mall nearby, he saw people yelling that there was a raid.

“I don’t really know if it really happened, but I saw desperate people running,” Duarte said. “And as soon as I saw it, I started running along and hid in a car park.”

On Sunday, the military police said there had been no reports of robberies or muggings the night before. But before the concert on Sunday, a fan in Rio de Janeiro for the concert was stabbed to death after an attempted robbery in Copacabana, the famous beachside strip, the military police said. Two men had been arrested, they said. The fan, Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, was with friends when he was stabbed, the civil police said.

During Friday’s show, Ana Clara Benevides, 23, died after losing consciousness, officials said. She was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest after being taken to a hospital, according to city officials and the Brazilian company that organized Swift’s show, Time for Fun.

Benevides, a psychology student, had traveled from Rondonópolis, which is about 880 miles northwest of Rio de Janeiro, for the concert, O Globo reported . Her friend Emiliane Félix, 22, told O Globo that Benevides had been sending her friends photos of her outfits for the concert “for over a month.”

On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Benevides shared her excitement about the concert, writing on Nov. 7, “I don’t know what my purpose in life will be after I see Taylor.”

Fans at the concert on Friday complained about a lack of water and extreme heat. The heat index, reached 139 degrees Fahrenheit, a record for Rio.

In an online post, Swift said she was “devastated” by her fan’s death. “I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she said.

Luiza Guimarães, 33, an economist, said that she was disappointed it took so long for Saturday’s show to be canceled because some fans were already unsure if it would go on after Benevides’s death and were worried about the heat. “Really, the production of the show was very reckless and everything was very poorly managed,” she said.

Guimarães said that she doesn’t blame Swift for the problems and that she thought the musician must be “very, very discouraged.”

Reporting was contributed by Genevieve Glatsky in Rio de Janeiro and Jack Nicas in Buenos Aires.

An earlier version of this article misstated the reason Taylor Swift had to reschedule a concert in Buenos Aires. It was because of a storm, not heat.

An earlier version of this article misstated the title of a Taylor Swift song. It is “You Belong With Me,” not “You Belong to Me.”

Taylor Swift

The Eras Tour is going global. After keeping fans waiting for months, Taylor Swift announced Friday (June 2) that she’s bringing her best-selling show to Latin America with summer and autumn stops in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, featuring Sabrina Carpenter as her opener.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Starts With Supersize Setlist, Stunning Stage…

“Really thrilled to tell you this!!” the pop star wrote in a post to her social media accounts. “Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year!”

Trending on Billboard

Swift concluded her post by directing fans to her touring website for more information on registering for ticket pre-sales and on-sales. And while the “Anti-Hero” singer’s relationship with Ticketmaster has been strained recently (she slammed the company in November for mishandling high-demand sales for the American Eras Tour dates), Swift’s Latin American tickets will be sold through the ticketing platform.

A total of eight Eras Tour dates are currently slated for Swift’s venture to Latin America. Starting Aug. 24, she’ll play three consecutive shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol. The Grammy winner will then return in November for a pair of shows at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, followed by shows at Estádio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro and Allianz Parque in São Paulo.

Echoing Swift’s words, a note at the bottom of a digital flier for the leg reads, “Additional international dates will be announced soon.”

Street vendors sell bottled water to Taylor Swift fans amid a heat wave before her Eras Tour concert outside the Nilton Santos Olympic stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Taylor Swift postponed an Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro Saturday after a 23-year-old fan died during her Friday night show, according to a message posted on the singer's Instagram.

"I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio," the singer said in a handwritten note on Instagram. "The safety and well being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first."

The cause of death for Ana Clara Benevides Machado, the young woman who sought medical attention at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium during Friday's show, has not yet been announced. The office of Rio's public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation and said Benevides' body was being examined.

Benevides' death shook many people in Brazil. She had taken her first flight ever to travel from the country's center-west region to Rio to see her favorite musician. She also created a WhatsApp group to keep her family updated, sending photos and videos every step of the way, family members told online news site G1.

Fans and politicians reacted to her death with outrage, speculating it was linked to extreme heat.

Concertgoers complained they were not allowed to take water into the stadium despite the stifling weather. As temperatures continued to rise Saturday and with two more shows to go at the time, federal authorities announced that free water would now be made available at concerts and other large events.

One of Benevides' friends, who also went to the concert, told local outlets they had both been given water while waiting to enter the stadium.

In a previous statement shared on her social media Saturday morning, Swift said she had a "shattered heart."

"There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," the singer wrote of the young woman.

The show's organizer, Time4Fun, said on Instagram that paramedics attended to Benevides after she reported feeling unwell. She was taken to a first-aid center and then to a hospital, where she died an hour later, the statement from the Brazilian live entertainment company said.

Taylor Swift fans wait for the doors of Nilton Santos Olympic stadium to open for her Eras Tour concert amid a heat wave in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.

Fans who attended the Friday show said they were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium even though Rio and most of Brazil have had record-breaking temperatures this week amid a dangerous and lasting heat wave. The daytime high in Rio on Friday was 39.1 degrees Celsius (102.4 degrees Fahrenheit), but it felt much hotter.

Apparent temperature — a combination of temperature and humidity — hit 59 C (138 F) Friday morning in Rio, the highest index ever recorded there.

Elizabeth Morin, 26, who recently moved to Rio from Los Angeles, described "sauna-like" conditions inside the stadium.

"It was extremely hot. My hair got so wet from sweat as soon as I came in," she said. "There was a point at which I had to check my breathing to make sure I wasn't going to pass out."

Morin said she drank plenty of water but saw "a good amount of people looking distressed" and others "yelling for water." She said she was able to get water from the sidelines of the area she was standing in, but that water was a lot harder to access from other parts of the stadium, "especially if you were concerned about losing your specific position."

During the show, Swift paused her performance and asked from the stage for water to be brought to a group of people who had successfully caught the singer's attention, according to Morin.

"They were holding up their phones saying 'We need water,'" she recalled.

Two other concertgoers interviewed by The Associated Press said they witnessed people feeling unwell from the heat during the show.

On her way to Rio, Benevides sent a video to family members that was broadcast by TV channel Globo News, telling them: "Mom, look at the plane, it's moving. Mom, I'm on the plane. My God in heaven! I'm happy!"

Then before the concert, she posted a video of herself on Instagram wearing a Taylor Swift T-shirt and friendship bracelets, seeking shade under an umbrella while waiting in line to enter the stadium.

Like her, thousands of fans waited hours in the sun before being allowed inside.

She told her followers while fanning her face that she'd arrived at 11 a.m. — the show began around 7:30 p.m. — and was "still in the mess."

Benevides' friend, Daniele Menin, who attended the concert with her, told online news site G1 that her friend passed out at the beginning of the concert, as Swift performed her second song, "Cruel Summer."

"We always said that when (Taylor Swift) came to Brazil we would find a way to go. The ticket was very expensive, but we still found a way," Menin told G1.

Justice Minister Flávio Dino said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that going forward in Brazil, "water bottles for personal use, in suitable material, will be allowed" at concerts and festivals and that show producers must provide free and easily accessible drinking water.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes wrote on X that the "loss of a young woman's life ... is unacceptable" and demanded more brigades and ambulances at future shows.

Still, the concert was postponed.

"We are on the train. And everyone is so disappointed," said Hely Olivares, a 41 year-old Venezuelan who had traveled from Panama to see the artist.

Before postponing the concert, Swift wrote on Instagram that she would not address the death from stage "because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."

"I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends," she said.

On Sunday, Taylor Swift returned to the stage in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil following a postponed show due to the area's unprecedented heatwave.

The "Lover" singer, 33, once again kicked off her Eras Tour stop at the Estadio Nilton Santos stadium with thousands of adoring fans bracing the heat to take part in the now-iconic concert.

Thankfully, the temperature came down significantly from Friday and Saturday, giving Swift and her fans a much-needed reprieve. With the cooler temperatures, however, came a rainstorm that the singer and her dancers braved from the stage.

Videos posted online show Swift in her Reputation outfit dancing and singing while the rain pours inside the stadium.

The rain didn't seem to stop her fans from enjoying themselves, though. At one point -- so impressed by the group's energy -- Swift gave them a special shoutout.

"You seem like a Saturday night crowd because you are so wild and crazy!" she told the crowd.

In one clip, Swift can be seen taking a moment to soak up the cheers from the crowd while still in her costume from the Lover era.

"The cheering and smiles and screaming is exactly what she needed to hear tonight. #RioTSTheErasTour #WeLoveYouTaylor ," a fan wrote in a post on X.

Another similar clip shows Swift at the piano during her Evermore segment,   taking out her earpieces to look out at the crowd and listen to their loud cheers and chants.

The singer appeared to get a bit emotional as the crowd repeated her name and cheered loudly for her.

Following the death of a fan before the Friday show and the postponement of Saturday's show , fans also took to X to show their support for the "Lavender Haze" singer.

On Sunday, "#WeWillStayTaylor" began trending as her fans expressed their love and admiration for her amid an incredibly difficult weekend.

One video from the concert on Friday night shows Swift near the end of her setlist breathing heavily and appearing to struggle with the heat herself.

Other clips from the event show fans purportedly passing out inside the stadium from the heat and sweating profusely.

Sadly, the continued heat contributed to the death of Ana Clara Benevides Machado, who died Friday night before the show.

On Friday, the heat index -- which accounts for both heat and humidity -- read at a shocking 140 degrees Fahrenheit for Rio De Janeiro, according to  FOX Weather .

In addition to the weather conditions, fans were packed into the stadium and were purportedly not allowed to take water in with them despite complaining of the rising temperatures.

Ana's cause of death has yet to be confirmed but the office of Rio’s public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation and said her body was being examined,  The Associated Press  reported.

In a statement on Saturday morning , the "Lover" singer said she was "devastated" by Benevides' death.

"I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote in an Instagram story. "I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young."

"I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil," she continued.

Swift later postponed her Saturday evening show due to the heat. The concert was rescheduled to Monday, Nov. 20.

Taylor Swift Fan Dies Before Eras Concert in Rio, Attendees Complain About Venue Conditions

BRAZIL-MUSIC-SWIFT-CHRIST THE REDEEMER

RIO DE JANEIRO — A 23-year-old Taylor Swift fan died at the singer's Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro Friday night, according to a statement from the show's organizers in Brazil. Both Swifties and politicians reacted to the news with outrage.

While a cause of death for Ana Clara Benevides Machado has not been announced, fans complained they were not allowed to take water into Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium despite soaring temperatures.

A group launched an online petition Saturday morning calling for a “Benevides Law” to “make water in events mandatory.”

The petition garnered more than 150,000 signatures in just a few hours. Federal authorities announced that free water would be made available at all future concerts.

In a handwritten note shared on her social media, Swift said she had a “shattered heart."

“There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young,” the singer wrote of the young woman.

The show's organizer, Time4Fun, said on Instagram that paramedics attended to Benevides after she reported feeling unwell. She was taken to a first-aid center and then to a hospital, where she died an hour later, the statement from the Brazilian live entertainment company said.

Concert-goers said they were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium even though Rio and most of Brazil have had record-breaking temperatures this week amid  a dangerous and lasting heat wave . The daytime high in Rio on Friday was 39.1 degrees Celsius (102.4 degrees Fahrenheit), but it felt much hotter.

Elizabeth Morin, 26, who recently moved to Rio from Los Angeles, described “sauna-like” conditions inside the stadium. “It was extremely hot. My hair got so wet from sweat as soon as I came in,” she said. “There was a point at which I had to check my breathing to make sure I wasn’t going to pass out.”

Morin said she drank plenty of water but saw “a good amount of people looking distressed” and others “yelling for water.” She said she was able to get water from the sidelines of the area she was standing in, but that water was a lot harder to access from other parts of the stadium, “especially if you were concerned about losing your specific position.”

During the show, Swift paused her performance and asked from the stage for water to be brought to a group of people who had successfully caught the singer's attention, according to Morin. “They were holding up their phones saying ‘We need water,’” she recalled.

Justice Minister Flávio Dino said on X that the ministry would implement “emergency rules" in response to the situation. He later announced that "water bottles for personal use, in suitable material, will be allowed" at concerts and other events and that show producers must provide free and easily accessible drinking water.

Before the show, Benevides posted a video of herself on Instgram wearing a Taylor Swift T-shirt and waiting in line to enter the stadium while seeking shade under an umbrella. Like her, thousands of fans waited hours in the sun before being allowed inside.

She told her followers while fanning her face that she’d arrived at 11 a.m. — the show began around 7:30 p.m. — and was “still in the mess.”

Benevides' friend, Daniele Menin, who attended the concert with her, told online news site G1 that her friend passed out at the beginning of the concert, as Swift performed her second song, “Cruel Summer.”

“We always said that when (Taylor Swift) came to Brazil we would find a way to go. The ticket was very expensive, but we still found a way”, Menin told G1.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes said on X the “loss of a young woman’s life ... is unacceptable.” While authorities are investigating the circumstances of the death, Paes wrote, the municipality will demand Saturday that the show’s production company provide new water distribution points, more brigades and ambulances, and advance entrance to the show by one hour.

Swift has two more shows scheduled in Rio, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. “I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she wrote. “I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends.”

Taylor Swift fan dies before 'The Eras Tour' concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Ana Clara Benevides Machado was helped by paramedics before dying in a hospital.

A 23-year-old Taylor Swift fan died at her Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, according to the show's organizers in Brazil.

Benevides Machado felt unwell and was attended to by firefighters and paramedics at the concert. She was taken to the medical station at the Nilton Santos Stadium for first aid. In a handwritten note shared on her social media Friday evening, Swift said she had a "shattered heart."

"I can't believe I'm writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this. There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," Swift said.

"I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil," Swift added.

Taylor Swift show in Rio was dangerously hot. How Florida venues prep for extreme heat

Anyone who's been to an outdoor concert in Florida knows it can get really hot, really fast — especially if you're in a stadium with more than 70,000 other screaming, jumping, dancing fans.

Luckily, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour swept through the Sunshine State in the Spring with no life-threatening cases of heat exhaustion reported from concertgoers, but a recent show in Brazil took a tragic turn.

What was supposed to be an exciting evening in Rio de Janeiro became heartbreaking when  Ana Clara Benevides Machado, a 23-year-old fan, lost her life at the show during an extreme heat wave.

Swifties immediately took to TikTok and other social media platforms to share an avalanche of thoughts on the tragedy, including a call for tour production companies and concert venues to crack down on monitoring and planning for extreme weather.

Here's what happened during Taylor Swift's Rio de Janeiro show, how hot Florida's stadiums get and how to prepare for Swift's 2024 Miami shows.

Eras Tour Brazil: Taylor Swift postpones Saturday Rio show due to high temperatures

What happened during Taylor Swift's three Rio de Janeiro concerts?

As Brazil lies in the Southern Hemisphere, it's currently at the start of its summer season and seeing temperatures in the 90's.

On Friday, November 17, 60,000 Swifties packed out the Nilson Santos stadium in Rio to watch the opening night of Swift's Eras Tour in Brazil. But it wasn't just a concert on a summer night — there was an intense heatwave that brought the heat index in Rio up to nearly 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Daniele Menin, Benevides' friend, told reporters in Brazil that her friend passed out in the first row at the beginning of the show.

During the actual show, Taylor Swift paused her set to make sure fans got water and threw a water bottle into the crowd later in the night..

"There's people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back," she said during the  Evermore  set, pointing to a floor section of the crowd. "So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are?"

The next day, it was announced that Saturday's show was postponed to Monday, Nov. 20 due to the excess heat.

How has Swift addressed the aftermath of the concerts?

Swift took to Instagram to announce the postponement of the Saturday show, saying "I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first."

As for the news regarding Benevides, she wrote "I can't believe I'm writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,"  Swift said in an Instagram  story message several hours after the show. "I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this."

She ended with stating she would not speak about this from stage because she felt "overwhelmed by grief." During Sunday's show, fans theorized that the popstar dedicated one of Sunday's surprise songs, "Bigger Than The Whole Sky," to Benevides.

The family of Benevides attended the final night of the Eras Tour in São Paulo, Brazil. Swift met with the family before the show,  according to Folha de S.Paulo, a Brazilian newspaper .

According to USA Today, it is unclear whether Benevides’ family was personally invited by Swift and her team.

How hot are Florida's stadiums?

According to a 2022 study from sports betting app/site  The Action Network  on the coldest, hottest, snowiest and windiest stadiums in the NFL, three of the warmest stadiums during the 2021 regular season were in the Sunshine State:

  •  Miami Gardens, Fla., Hard Rock Stadium 74.4°F
  • Tampa, Raymond James Stadium, 69.2°F
  • Jacksonville, TIAA Bank Field, 64.6°F
  • Santa Clara, California, Levi's Stadium, 57.6°F
  • Charlotte, Bank of America Stadium, 54°F

When are Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' concerts in Miami?

The popstar will make her return to the United States with Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Friday, Oct. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 20 of 2024.

Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive Suite 102, Miami Gardens, will be the site of Taylor Swift’s concert. The last time Swift performed at Hard Rock Stadium was on her 2018 Reputation Tour.

What does the weather typically look like in October in Miami?

AccuWeather experts said daytime temperatures in Miami typically get up in the mid-80's in October, with evening temperature dropping to the upper 70's. They also noted that it's still a rainy month for the state with tropical systems forming, seeing anywhere from 7 to 7½ inches of rainfall.

Does Hard Rock Stadium have a roof that closes? Does it have air conditioning?

Hard Rock Stadium does not feature a permanent or retractable roof to keep those inside cool. However, they recently added a roof canopy to provide some relief from the sun and scorching temperatures.

As far as air conditioning goes, the stadium's website only mentions AC for their Club Level and Suite areas.

What policies does Miami Hard Rock Stadium have in place for extreme heat?

Hard Rock Stadium did not respond to requests for comment on their policies and procedures regarding extreme heat at concerts.

According to their website, there are two First Aid locations at Hard Rock Stadium in Sections 104 and 346 for those who need it. Patrons can also text (305) 623-6400 with a description of their issue and location.

If immediate assistance is required, Hard Rock officials ask those to notify the nearest event staff member, security personnel, concierge staff member or police officer. Guests are encouraged to report issues and concerns to a nearby event staff member, visiting a Guest Experience Headquarters or by calling the Guest Experience hotline: (305) 943-8000.

"In the event of a serious emergency, event staff, event security, and police are ready and available to assist guests, including guests with disabilities. Important information regarding the emergency situation and evacuation procedures will be provided over the public address system and on Hard Rock Stadium video boards and scoreboards," their website states .

In case of excess heat, water fountains are located throughout Hard Rock Stadium on each level outside each set of restrooms. All fountains are accessible to guests with disabilities.

Can concertgoers bring in their own water bottles to Hard Rock Stadium?

Only factory-sealed plastic bottle of water 20 oz. or less in size are allowed inside the Hard Rock Stadium. All other bottles or cans are prohibited from being brought into stadium.

Swift performed at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium in April. What are their policies regarding extreme heat?

Raymond James Stadium did not respond to requests for comment on their policies and procedures regarding extreme heat at concerts.

According to the Stadium's website , although you can buy water bottles and use free water fountains inside of the gates, you are not allowed to bring bottles, thermoses, cans or hard-sided containers of any size inside the gates. They have to be left in the car or recycled before entering. Concession stands in the stadium are required to give complimentary cups of ice upon request.

In case of medical emergencies, paramedics can be found on the east and west walkways of the main and upper levels of the stadium and at each end zone. There are also two first aid stations, in sections 120 and 145.

What are the signs of heat exhaustion?

According to the Mayo Clinic, possible heat exhaustion symptoms include:

  • Cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat.
  • Heavy sweating.
  • Weak, rapid pulse.
  • Low blood pressure upon standing.
  • Muscle cramps.

Who is most vulnerable to extreme heat?

Anyone can be at risk but some are more vulnerable to the heat, including:

  • Pregnant people.
  • People with heart or lung conditions.
  • Young children, especially those under age 4.
  • Older adults, especially those over 65.
  • People who are overweight.
  • People on certain medications.
  • People who work outside.

Swifties have just under a year to prepare. How can they protect themselves from heat exhaustion at the Miami shows?

For those nervous about battling the Florida heat when the "Eras Tour" rolls again, here's some prevent heat-related illness or more serious illnesses :

  • Drink more water or other cool liquids than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Move less, if you can help not dancing as much to Swift's songs. The body releases heat when it moves.
  • Plan your tour outfit to fit the weather. Wear lighter, more breathable clothing, such as cotton and linen, which allow heat to escape from the body.
  • Avoid hot and rich meals and stick to water-heavy foods like melon, lettuce, and tomato before or during the show.
  • Eating spicy foods can cause you to sweat and ultimately cool you down.

The Eras Tour cast: Meet Taylor Swift's dancers, singers and band members

Portrait of Bryan West

Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour has been out for a week on Disney+ , and there's no doubt some dedicated fans have watched it 13+ times. The three-and-a-half-hour phenomenon is a bedazzled force that moves through 49 songs from Swift's 10 eras. The movie was shot over three nights in Los Angeles and included helicopter, drone and onstage camera angles. By now everyone knows the ringleader of The Eras Tour, but what about the cast and crew who shine alongside her?

Here's a look at Swift's six bandmates, four backup vocalists and 15 dancers featured in the film with the time stamps for when they appear on screen.

'Strike the band up, 1... 2... 3...'

The Eras Tour band is led by Mike Meadows and Max Bernstein. Meadows has been with Swift for more than 15 years, starting on her "Fearless" tour. The guitarist also sings and plays keyboards, cello, harmonica and mandolin. In a cute TikTok, his wife shared a compilation video from Nissan Stadium about how proud she is . Swift places her arm on Meadows during "Love Story" at 33:12.

Max Bernstein rocks out on the guitar, keyboards and pedal steel, which is a steel guitar with pedals and knee levers. He shared a post on Instagram with the caption , "So incredibly grateful to be a little part of the biggest and best show." He joined Swift for the "Reputation Stadium Tour" in 2018. His parents are journalists Nora Ephron and Carl Bernstein, and his brother Jacob is a reporter for The New York Times. Bernstein is to the right of Swift and her "Fearless" heart hands at 26:12.

Paul Sidoti may be the most well known band member. His distinct rocker hair is almost as big as his stage presence. Sidoti has been a vocalist and guitarist with the singer since 2007. He is approachable on the tour and has taken photos with fans in the audience. Sidoti's website also says he's available for "online guitar, bass, and piano lessons via Zoom." Swift touches Sidoti's face during "You Belong With Me" while singing "you've got a smile that can light up this whole town" at 28:15.

Amos Heller is the bassist. Like many of Swift's bandmates, the husband and father of three has been with her since 2007. Heller picked up his first electric bass at 13. His cover of Metallica's "Blackened" shows he's a master thrasher. Swift struts with Heller during "You Belong With Me" at 27:58.

Ooomph! Matthew Billingslea is the drummer crashing the cymbals, beating the toms and pedaling the bass. In 2023, he was nominated for pop drummer of the year at the Drumeo Awards. Billingslea joined Swift's band in 2013 for the Red Tour. Billingslea pops up during "Fearless" at 25:38.

Rounding out the bandmates is Karina DePiano . The classically trained pianist gets a shoutout from the singer following Swift's performance of "Champagne Problems." DePiano performs an interlude at 50:35 while Swift sets a table before singing "Tolerate It." DePiano started 2024 with a Pianote nomination for pop pianist of the year .

'We sing it proudly'

The fearless ladies who make up Swift's choir are "The Starlights."

Up first is Melanie Nyema , the section leader. The vocal virtuoso has backed many artists including Gladys Knight, Sara Bareilles, Solange Knowles, Florence + The Machine and Imagine Dragons. She's been with Swift since 2012 when she performed "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at the VMAs. Check out her spiritual version of "Gotta Have You." Nyema is left of Swift at 30:33 when she hugs "The Starlights."

Kamilah Marshall is the vocalist dance captain. Marshall came into the fold during the Red Tour. Her song "Canyon" showcases her writing and singing in an outpouring of gratitude. The Broadway actress has credits including "Hairspray" and "Lion King." In 2021, she told the Academic Magnet High School newspaper in South Carolina, "I know I’m supposed to be doing what I do.” You can also see her in the dinner scene of " All Too Well: The Short Film ." Marshall is the "cheer captain" on the left at 28:52 during the "Fearless" era.

Jeslyn Gorman joined Swift during her Red Tour. The vocal riffer has a song, "Falling Like Snow," and has toured with stars Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Rita Ora and Nick Jonas. The Florida native and latte enthusiast moved to Los Angeles. Gorman, like the other "Starlights," thanked Swift on her birthday, "Your heart and generosity is beyond BEYOND. And just when I think you’ve DONE IT, you TOP THAT!" Gorman shimmies at 32:40.

Eliotte Woodford wears the purple "Speak Now" dress and bangs the side of her vitrine during the "Look What You Made Me Do" portion of the Eras Tour at 1:07:38. Woodford has been with Swift since 2013. The wife and mother graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a part of the a cappella group the "Mosaic Whispers." Her singing and dancing reel shows her early work with Swift .

'I don't wanna dance if I'm not dancing with you'

Fifteen dancers led by choreographer Mandy Moore and associate choreographers Amanda Balen and Jeremy Hudson create some of the most iconic moments during the 10 eras. Moore met Swift through mutual friend Emma Stone who worked with Moore on "La La Land." Her credits are extensive. Most recently, she put together the exemplary Ryan Gosling performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars.

Amanda Balen is the dance captain. The blond beauty hails from Ontario, Canada. She is famous among the Lady Gaga fandom for dancing in several of the star's music videos and being a part of the Roseland Ballroom residency in New York City in 2014. Balen has worked with Katy Perry and Pink. You can find her at 14:18 during "The Man" to the left of Swift.

Tori Evans lights up the stage. In her decade-plus career, the University of Arizona alumnus has been featured in Ricky Martin music video "Qué Rico Fuera" , swam in synchro-formation next to Beyoncé and strutted on "The Masked Singer ." Evans' resume also includes dancing for Cardi B, Mary J Blige, Jason Derulo and Maroon 5. Her dance teacher of 15 years, Lana Wright, told Morgan Hill Life , "Tori was always that ray of sunshine... I always knew Tori could accomplish her goals, if she really wanted it." You can catch Evans during "Blank Space." She hands Swift a glow-up club at 2:13:45.

Audrey Douglass has danced with the devil, in addition to many other television credits. The performer has boogied and waltzed on Netflix's "Lucifer," Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show," FX's "American Horror Story: 1984," Paramount+'s "1923" and "Dancing with the Stars." Douglass serves up sass as "Shay" in Dua Lipa's "Physical" work out video . Dancing runs in the family, because Douglass' older sister, Hannah, was one of the co-captain dancers on Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour . As the "Lover" house burns down, you can see Douglass to the left of Swift at 2:22:52.

Jan Ravnik (pronounced "yawn") is the smooth dancer who caught the eye of social media with his abs-olutely distracting "Lavender Haze" ladder dance . The Slovenian dancer has worked with Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey, Bruno Mars, Khalid and Luis Fonsi. Ravnik was awarded the "Best Dancer in Slovenia" and credited as the "Best Trainer/Choreographer" by the Slovenian Olympic committee. When he's not grooving on the international stage, he goes for long distance bike rides and takes artsy photos. You can see what's got the internet's attention at 2:36:46.

Taylor Banks strikes like a viper at 55:48, during "...Ready For It?" Banks was born in New Orleans, grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Los Angeles to shine. The dancer has been moving to the beat since she was 3 and been featured with artists including Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Cher, Ciara, Chris Brown, Jessie J, The Jacksons, Jason Derulo, Dua Lipa, Billie Eillish and Beyoncé. The fitness model has repped brands like Nike, Reebok, Skechers and Under Armour.

Sydney Moss was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. The spunky and fun dancer moved to Los Angeles after high school and has worked with Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Doja Cat, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. Moss has a beautiful rendition of "You're Losing Me" with fellow dancer Jan Ravnik. She dresses Swift in her bejeweled blazer during "The Man" at 9:03.

Natalie Lecznar is a former Radio City Rockette. The Chapman University graduate married her college sweetheart. She was on Season 5 of "So You Think You Can Dance." The vibrant dancer is easy to spot with her fire-red locks. She is known for her performance in the "Folklore" era when she becomes Rebekah Harkness during the "Last Great American Dynasty" at 1:51:41.

Whyley Yoshimura , why don't you come on over and shake, shake, shake? The dancer notably flips his long hair, still smooth despite the humidity, during "Shake It Off" at 2:17:40. Yoshimura is a native Hawaiian who went to the Kamehameha Schools on Oahu. He started dancing for Janet Jackson at 18 and went on to be her assistant choreographer for the "Unbreakable Tour." He is an LGBTQI+ advocate for the Rainbow Railroad .

Raphael Thomas is the "Tolerate It" star at 54:02. The Jamaican's nickname is "The Sandman." He toured with Mary J. Blige on the "Good Morning Gorgeous" tour , was featured in Rihanna's "Savage X Fenty Show" on Amazon Prime, danced for Janet Jackson in the 85 West Music Festival and lit up the stage with Beyonce during her "Homecoming" performance at Coachella.

Kevin Scheitzbach polishes up real nice! The "Bejeweled" dancer gets a breakout moment at 2:47:13 strutting some of his best moves. Scheitzbach specializes in jazz funk and street styles of dance. He runs FlowXS , a choreography company, with his equally charismatic and talented brother Michael. The two grew up in Toronto, Canada.

Kameron Saunders is the only dancer with a speaking line that he switches up nightly at the Eras Tour during "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at 1:26:33. The ebullient dancer also shines during a "Bejeweled" dance solo at 2:48:10. The Missourian was honored in Kansas City when the council dubbed Jan. 25 Kameron Saunders Day of Dance. You can catch him and his fast-footed moves in the ensemble of "The Color Purple" and "Spirited." Saunders' brother Khalen is a defensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints.

Natalie Peterson is a professional dancer, fitness instructor, dance educator and Amazon influencer . The Chapman University graduate specialized in Latin dance. Before the Eras Tour, she served as the assistant choreographer for Karol G’s "Bichota Tour" and got her Lagree Fitness certification. You can spot her twirling in "Style" on the right of Swift at 2:10:39.

Tamiya Lewis is the crowd pleaser who wheels the "Red" road case onto the stage. During the tour, she opens it to reveal song snippets from "State of Grace," "Holy Ground," "Red" and "Everything Has Changed" (depending on the show). That part was cut from the movie, but you still see her bringing the case onstage to unleash hundreds of red balloons at 1:20:12. The 21-year-old is an alumnus of the Velocity Dance Convention , a dance convention and competition that provides classes to dancers across the U.S.

Sam Mcwilliams is the lovable dancer who appears to the right of Swift at 2:09:56. If you don't blink, you can also catch his famous "Style" flip at 2:10:41. The Oregon native has been dancing for most of his life. Check out a video of him in 2017 dancing to Meghan Trainor's "Me Too." In 2021, he was named the Radix senior male core performer , and he almost made the top 12 on Season 17 of "So You Think You Can Dance." Recently, Mcwilliams showed off his lyrical, limber and tumble talents in a duet dance with fellow dancer Jan Ravnik .

Karen Chuang hands Swift her microphone during "The Man" at 9:26. A few seconds later as she's poring over a typewriter, Swift takes her paper and chucks it. Chuang is officially a Gleek as one of her first television appearances was as a Vocal Adrenaline dancer in "Another One Bites The Dust." She also performed in the 2016 "Grease Live!" and Lady Gaga's Super Bowl halftime show. Chuang graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA.

I spent more than $5,000 and traveled 24 hours to watch the Eras Tour in Vienna. I'm still in disbelief that the shows are canceled.

  • Kayla Sommese, 33, traveled 24 hours from Los Angeles to Vienna to catch a show at the Eras Tour.
  • Shortly after landing, she found out that the shows were canceled due to a planned terrorist attack.
  • The manager of business operations started a fan project to help affected fans come together.

Insider Today

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Kayla Sommese, a Taylor Swift fan who traveled from Los Angeles to Vienna to catch Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. It has been edited for length and clarity. Business Insider has verified her expenses.

I've been a Swiftie for as long as I can remember. I first saw her open for Brad Paisley in high school, and I didn't even know who she was then.

Since then, I've been on every single tour. I've watched her live 13 times — twice at the Los Angeles leg of the Eras Tour last year.

When I saw that she added The Tortured Poets Department set to her latest shows, I knew I had to go. In May, I bought two lower bowl tickets for my husband and me from a Reddit user for $850 a piece.

I spent over $300 on two outfits from Etsy — a custom-fit body suit inspired by the  Reputation Tour  and a " Lavender Haze " inspired dress.

I spent around $5,200 on the trip

My husband and I decided to make a trip out of this concert . We budgeted and saved all summer for a 6-day trip — four in Vienna and two in Salzburg, a city in the Austrian Alps. Our flight tickets, accommodation costs, and rental car added up to about $5,200.

When I landed in Vienna last night, the news broke that two people had been arrested on suspicion of terrorist attack plans at the concert. Then, at dinner, Taylor Nation confirmed that the shows were canceled .

I felt my whole body go numb. I could not believe it was real. She's hardly ever canceled a show in her career.

I was in a group chat with Swifties from Egypt, Australia, Japan, and other states in the US. Fans had theories that she could announce something at the Vienna shows — on August 9th in particular, because she was born in 1989. They traveled from around the world for these shows.

When I woke up this morning, I still could not believe this happened

I thought of sticking around for her London shows, but that's just not possible — we have cats at home that need to be taken care of.

Related stories

Our trip will continue. We have tours booked ahead and rented a car to drive to Salzberg. Funnily enough, the people who attended a wine tour we went on this morning were all Swifties .

Taylor will be back in the US to tour in the fall and winter , but it's so expensive to see her in the US that I'm not sure we will actually get to see the show again.

I started a fan project , and I'm trying to get people to write a little message about their story and how they're feeling about all of this.

Hopefully, Taylor will see how everybody is feeling for her. I know a lot of people are worried about how upset she is, and I'm sure this is devastating for her as well.

Taylor Swift announces she'll end the Eras Tour this year, making Indy her last U.S. stop

Swift will perform three nights at lucas oil stadium before heading to canada for the tour's final shows..

Portrait of Holly V. Hays

Taylor Swift will not extend her record-breaking Eras Tour into 2025, the singer announced, which means she'll end the U.S. run of the tour with her three-night stop at Lucas Oil Stadium this November.

The 34-year-old shared the news onstage in Liverpool, England — the 100th show on her massive world tour.

"This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December," Swift said.

More from USA TODAY: Taylor Swift to end record-breaking Eras Tour in December, singer announces

"This tour has really become my entire life, it's taken over everything, like I think I once had hobbies," she joked.

She'll perform in Indianapolis Nov. 1-3, at Lucas Oil Stadium, before heading to Canada, where she'll perform in Toronto and Vancouver.

Here's the speech she gave to fans:

Eras Tour ticket prices soar, and Indy is no exception

The singer announced the first leg of her stadium tour in November 2022. Initially the tour was to span 27 shows and serve as a musical journey through her career. She later expanded to 66 shows for the first year and 86 in the second, visiting nearly two dozen countries.

The Indianapolis shows were announced in late summer 2023 , and fans immediately scrambled for access to Ticketmaster presales and waitlists.

Ticketmaster woes: 'Do we even have a chance?' Fans have fingers crossed for Taylor Swift tickets

This tour has been notoriously difficult to score tickets to; Ticketmaster canceled a planned general onsale for the tour in November 2022 due to "extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems." The meltdown was so bad U.S. senators eventually grilled executives of Live Nation Entertainment over their practices. The Justice Department, 29 states (not including Indiana) and the District of Columbia have since sued Live Nation , Ticketmaster's parent company, alleging it has monopolized live events.

Some fans who had hoped to snag tickets for Swift in Indianapolis eventually decided to fly to Paris to see her relaunch the tour for its European leg, saying it was cheaper to book the flight, accommodations and concert tickets overseas than it was to attend an Indianapolis performance.

Eras Tour a hot ticket: Fans who considered buying tickets to Indy shows saved money at the Eras Tour shows in Paris

Ticketmaster still shows all three Indianapolis dates as sold out, but tickets are available via third-party resale sites. As of June 14, the cheapest resale ticket to any of the Indianapolis shows was $1,897 on SeatGeek and $2,040 on StubHub.

Eras Tour setlist varies by city

In her speech to Liverpool fans, Swift joked that her new hobby when not on stage is to "sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear."

The acoustic section of her show has been unique to every city, and she began mashing up her songs this year, USA TODAY reported. She still has about 30 songs in her discography to perform .

Everything we know about Taylor Swift's Eras Tour show cancelations in Vienna after foiled terror plot

Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour were supposed to kick off three nights in Vienna, Austria on Thursday, August 8.

It was scheduled to be her penultimate stop on the Europe leg of her mega-popular concert , with just five shows in London remaining before Swift returns to North America, with Eras Tour dates resuming in November in Toronto before it ends with a final show on December 8, 2024.

Now, the Vienna dates are in question following the discovery of a potential terror plot against the concert. Here's what we know so far about all of this as the story continues to develop:

Austrian officials arrested two in alleged attack plot on the Taylor Swift Eras Tour stop in Vienna

According to NBC , the Austrian federal and state officials arrested two men for their connection to potential attacks on upcoming major events in Vienna. A 19-year-old was one of the men arrested, and officials allegedly found chemical substances during the arrests.

"Both men had become radicalized through the internet, and allegedly had specific and detailed plans on how to carry out an attack," Austrian officials stated, with the 19-year-old apparently pledging allegiance to terrorist group ISIS.

All three Vienna shows have been canceled

In an abundance of caution, the trio of shows in the Austrian capital have been canceled according to an Instagram post from Barracuda Music, the concert organizers.

This is the latest in a recent run of upsetting events

Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident of threatened or actual violence. Before her first show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, an American stalker was detained as he tried to enter the concert venue . He was held throughout the duration of her stay in the city.

A  Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England was attacked by a man with a knife on July 29 , leading to the deaths of three young girls and the hospitalization of several more.

While the events are unrelated, it's incredibly concerning to see Swift and her fans at the center of violent attacks and plots.

What has Taylor Swift said about the terror plot and the canceled shows?

Nothing yet as of publishing this.
