The Shooting Star

The Perfect 3-Day Goa Itinerary for Slow Travel.

goa places to visit in 3 days

On my first trip to Goa as an adult, my partner and I stayed at an “offbeat” beach that had already been invaded by overtourism. That experience, filled with characterless beach shacks, multicuisine food and hordes of tourists, turned me off Goa.

Much later, I returned to experience slow travel for the first time.

I’m grateful that the universe conspired to have us stay at Cancio’s House , a 500-year-old traditional Goan homestay in Aldona, with its own well for drinking water, jackfruit trees for shade, and a courtyard around which three generations of the Amaral family have grown up. It was here that I first learnt about the susegad Goan life – aka the art of slowness and contentment.

goa places to visit in 3 days

The weeks we spent here were filled rain-filled walks, destination-less scooter rides, warm conversations with our hosts, visits to the local bakery, and a lot of observation and introspection. It was for the first time that I learnt that this is what travelling is really about. Not a checklist of places to tick off, but a chance to experience a world different from the one we’re familiar with.

I’ve returned to Goa pretty much every year since, sometimes for several months, and sometimes for a few days. Each time, I’m reminded that slow travel isn’t about how much time we have but how we choose to spend it.

Thanks to this ever-growing connection with Goa, I’ve advised so many friends on how to make the most of their Goa trips. This day-to-day itinerary includes some of my favorite adventures and spots, and takes you away from the beaten path to a slower, more intimate experience of the Goa I love.

Goa Trip Plan for 3 Days

goa places to visit in 3 days

With that in mind, my recommended Goa itinerary is one that allows enough time and mind space to live and breathe its slow, susegad life – even it’s just over 3 days.

These North and South Goa itineraries aim to take you away from the well-trodden tourist path, and challenge the idea of Goa you’re probably familiar with. They are filled with meaningful outdoor, culinary and cultural adventures that often get buried under the sun-sand-party scene of Goa. These experiences also support small local businesses, and protect Goa’s living culture and natural ecosystems – ensuring that your 3-day trip is not only fun and memorable, but also positively impacts Goa.

North Goa Itinerary for 3 Days

Where to stay in north goa.

There is something for every budget in Goa, but in all honesty, a lot of it is sh*t. Since the surge of remote workers and revenge travel in the last few years, accommodation prices in Goa have been soaring. Sadly, many ‘homestays’ have turned into commercial businesses, and you often end up paying a lot for not very hospitable experiences.

Here are two places I highly recommend:

Cancio’s House, Aldona

goa places to visit in 3 days

Stay in the outhouse cottage of a 500-year-old traditional Goan home at Cancio’s House , hosted by three generations of the Amaral family! I’ve stayed here several times over the years, and each time, I’m amazed by the warmth, wealth of stories, and Goan recipes I get to try (even as a vegan ). The village of Aldona may have changed quite a bit over the years, but it still retains its Goan charm – a 16th century church, lush rice paddies, old Goan houses, and their quirky owners, always a delight to chat with.

The Secret Garden, Saligao

the secret garden goa

I wrote parts of my first book at The Secret Garden – a traditional Goan house painstakingly refurbished by a Goan-British couple, and now home to its own food forest. On offer are heartwarming conversations, sourdough pancakes (YES!), and swimming under the stars.

Where to eat in North Goa

kokni kanteen

Goan thali and local Saraswat cuisine

Even after all these years of visiting and living in Goa, I’m surprised to learn about Goan food I haven’t tried before. While family kitchens (like Raquel’s kitchen in Cancio’s house) are the real treasure trove of Goan dishes, the true blue Goan thali at Kokni Kanteen is a good starting point. My favorite Goan restaurant is Mum’s Kitchen in Panjim (avoid the Assagao branch), where I love the uddamethi and tamdi bhaji with sanna. A breakfast spot I love is The Local Table , for a wicked patal bhaji.

Best cafes and restaurants in North Goa

North Goa can spoil anyone for choice, but as someone who looks for vegan-friendly, preferably organic and nourishing food, some of my favorite places include Bloom & Brew in Assagao, The Rice Mill in Morjim, Bean Me Up in Vagator, and Moka in Siolim.

How to Spend 3 Days in North Goa – Day 1

cycling chorao

My Goa trip plan for 3 days can be mixed and matched, depending on your mood and the weather:

Get to know your Goan neighborhood

Whether you’re staying in Aldona, Saligao or elsewhere in North Goa, take the morning to acquaint yourself with the slow Goan life. Go on a long walk to the local church, along the rice paddies, and past old Goan homes (noticing how many of them are in a state of disrepair). Stop by to pick up poi at the local bakery, visit the morning market where local farmers sell their produce, and aim to have a chat with atleast one local. Getting yourself into the pace of Goa is a great way to set yourself up to slow exploration over the rest of the trip.

Cycle or e-bike on the sleepy Chorao island

Away from the crowds of Calangute and Baga, escape to the island of Chorao for a glimpse of Goa that once was – full of wild mangroves, endless paddy fields, and glorious old houses with a balcao. Sign up for a guided cycling or e-biking ride with Cycling Zens or B:Live , exploring the quiet beauty of the island on two wheels – one of the best places to see in goa in 3 days. Remember to carry your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated!

Find pre-loved delights in Vagator

It’s so exciting that Goa finally has its own thrift store – Good Karma , in Vagator. Featuring pre-loved clothes, accessories, shoes and books, this is not just a way to buy second hand, but also buy stuff embedded with the stories of strangers. If you have clothes and books in good condition, you can also donate them to the store. Part of the profits are channeled towards local non-profits like WAG (Welfare for Animals in Goa).

Shop for organic, fair trade clothes at No Nasties

Ditch the wasteful fast fashion brands taking over Goa and other parts of the world, to shop at No Nasties – a homegrown, organic, fair trade store in Assagao. I bought my first t-shirt from No Nasties over eight years ago, and it’s still serving me well! This kind of slow, ‘I can wear this forever’ fashion, is a guilt-free answer to the overconsumption plaguing our planet.

How to Spend 3 Days in North Goa – Day 2

goa waterfalls

Hike to a secret waterfall or swimming hole

Wake up early morning for a Goan adventure far off the beaten path. Head to the far reaches of the Western Ghats, to go on a forest hike for a short while or half a day, depending on your interest and abilities. Swim in a secret waterfall, or jump into a forested swimming hole (like the cenotes in Mexico!). Wrap up the outdoor experience with a traditional Goan meal cooked by a local family. In these wild pockets lies the realization that there’s so much more to Goa than the cocktails-and-sunsets long promoted as its cover image.

Two of my favorite adventure travel companies run by local Goans who genuinely care about protecting these wild areas and their geo-locations are Beatroute Explorers and The Local Beat . Expect to spend the entire day on their trips, including a long drive to a hidden location, short or long hike, plenty of chill time in the outdoors, and homemade lunch with a local family.

Take a surfing lesson with Salty Soul

Of course you’re in Goa and you want to spend some time by the sea! Take your playfulness in the waves a notch up by signing up for a surf lesson. As someone who used to watch surfers with awe, I never imagined I’d be able to get up on a surfboard someday. But the waves in Goa are gentle – and one of the best places to learn, or atleast experiment. There’s nothing like the adrenalin of catching a wave! My go to surf spot is Salty Soul , run by two Goan surfers in Mandrem.

Have a lazy beach day

Have your sun, sand and sunset evening in Goa after all. Laze at the beaches of Morjim or Ashwem, or venture further ashore to Keri. After sunset, stay for a quiet beach walk under the sunset sky, as the stars shimmer out one by one.

If you happen to be in North Goa on:

A Sunday: Check out MOG Sundays for soulful talks curated by the Museum of Goa , featuring local authors, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, historians and more. A great coming together of Goans and the Goa-curious.

A full moon night: Catch a Hindustani classical music performance, alongside some incredible sushi, at Tien in Vagator.

An alternate Sunday: Go for the New Earth Gathering at the Offbeat Goa Space – a vegan, community market bringing together local and resident entrepreneurs who specialize in all things natural and eco-friendly. The venue is in the same space as the Good Karma thrift store.

South Goa Itinerary for 3 Days

south goa

While a lot of restaurants and events are clustered around North Goa, I recommend staying in South Goa for a quieter, slower, closer to nature holiday.

Where to stay in South Goa

Turiya villa.

A tastefully restored Goan house, built over a 100 years ago in the village of Canacona, and restored by the Goan architect Sandesh Prabhu. While close enough to the beaches of Palolem and Patnem, I loved Turiya Villa ‘s slow travel vibe, with hammocks in the old courtyard that just made me want to read and while time away.

Mangaal Farmstay

In a protected area of South Goa, Mangaal Farmstay is a working organic farm that has all the Bali feels. Lush forests, farmlands and old Goan villages where time seems to have stopped. Oh, it even has its own private waterfall, a 1.5 hour trek away!

Hidden away on a hill near the Cabo de Rama Fort, Cabo Serai is an experience unto itself. Accessible only by a short hike, the stunning pinewood and thatched roofed huts are built to leave no trace. On offer are stunning sunset hikes, innovative plant-based food, and thoughtful eco-friendly touches. One of my favorite eco-lodges in India!

*Note that Mangaal Farmstay and Cabo Serai are experiences unto themselves, and located quite far out from the other activities of South Goa.

cabo serai

Where to eat in South Goa

Cantine indienne.

Cantine Indienne is a rustic, farm-to-table eatery in Palolem, run by a French-Tamil couple. They turn the organic oyster mushrooms grown in their backyard into crunchy ‘wings,’ and offer other creative delights like pesserattu  (green mung dosa), beetroot curry, oyster mushroom pickles, and wild spinach and horsegram stir fry. Yum!

Go to Bibhitaki for healthy comfort food inspired by Ayurveda. I love (read drool over) their sumptuous smoothie bowls, and recommend the Mexican Bhel as well as the hearty Mexican and Japanese Buddha bowls. So good.

Explore your goan neighborhood.

Whether you stay in Canacona or elsewhere in South Goa, take the morning to observe and flow with the slow life of Goa. Find out about all churches in your backyard, stop for a chat with Goans on their morning walk, and pick up poi at the local bakery.

Learn about spices and cashews at Tanshikar Organic Farm

South Goa is the land of spices and cashews, and Tanshikar Organic Farm is one of the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days. Spices like black pepper and cardamom are grown organically here, on 25 stunning acres. Stay for a lip-smacking Goan lunch, much of it cooked with organic ingredients!

Have a quiet evening at Patnem beach

While away the evening at the relatively quiet Patnem beach. Swim in the waves, catch the sunset, and walk under the stars with the Arabian Sea humming in your ears.

Go on a hiking adventure.

Hike to a sea cave or go on a moonlit forest walk in the wilderness of South Goa. We did the guided sea cave excursion with Adventure Breaks – which involved a short ocean hike and scrambling over some rocks to reach the west coast’s largest sea cave! An easy one, good for most ages and abilities.

Visit Cabo de Rama Fort

There are plenty of places to visit in Goa in 3 days, but if you pick only one in the south, pick this. Built in the medieval times and last restored during the Portuguese era, the Cabo de Rama Fort is full of history and panoramic views over the Arabian Sea. If you’re up for another walk, a trail winds around the fort, offering panoramas in all directions. If you’re tired, pick your spot for a stunning sunset over the ocean!

Take a surf lesson on agonda beach.

I’m yet to go surfing in South Goa, but surfer friends recommend catching the waves at Agonda Beach for all beginners. Aloha Surf is a popular surf school in the area.

Learn about Goan culture and cuisine at Palacio Do Deao

On the shores of the Kushavati River, travel back to a different era at the 200+ year old mansion that is Palacio De Deao . A blend of Portuguese and Saraswat architectural styles, it’s the perfect place to learn about ancient Goan culture and its Portuguese history, over a sumptuous traditional Goan meal. Advance bookings only.

How to Plan a Trip to Goa

goa places to visit in 3 days

Best time to visit Goa

Goa is different every season – both in terms of landscapes and crowds. My favorite time is monsoon in Goa (July to September), when the paddies are lush green, it’s not as busy as the rest of the year, and the waterfalls and swimming holes are the most inviting. For surfing and beach life however, the winter months from October to January are ideal.

How to reach Goa

Take the scenic Vista Dome train from Mumbai to Goa, or the Vande Bharat from Bangalore to Karwat. Other places across India are also connected with long train journeys to Margao in South Goa or Thivim in North Goa.

The overnight buses from Mumbai or Bangalore to Goa are convenient for short trips.

The quickest way to get to Goa is to take a flight to Dabolim (GOA) or MOPA (GOX) airport.

How to get around in Goa

There’s a standing joke that almost every shop or house in Goa (especially close to the beaches) can arrange a scooter or taxi! Taxis can be expensive, with short routes costing as much as ₹600-1000. Scooter rentals usually cost ₹300-400 per day, depending on the length of stay. Ask for a newer bike and model. My favorite is an Activa 5G. Alternatively, rent a bicycle or e-bike from Cycling Zens. Cost depends on the duration of rental.

Estimated Cost of a 3 Day Trip in Goa

The cost of a trip to Goa can vary wildly, depending on the budget and comfort level you’re after. Besides accommodation costs, I recommend budgeting atleast ₹5000 per day, including a scooter rental, a mix of cafe and thali meals, and some activities. It is possible to do a Goa budget trip for 3 days if you eliminate any paid hiking, surfing and shopping.

What not to do in Goa

slow travel goa

  • Plan a trip to Goa for 3 days only 😉 The real essence of Goa is in slowing down and spending longer. But if life doesn’t allow that right now, I hope some of the experiences I’ve recommended above will allow you to slow down mentally anyway.
  • Try to cover all ‘must see places in Goa’ in 3 days. Instead of running from one place to the next to try to do everything, pick a few things that really interest you and enjoy them deeply. It’s always nice to have a reason or three to come back.
  • Stay in accommodations that have cut down Goa’s green cover. Sadly, a lot of the fancy villas in Goa fall in this category. I’ve seen it happen before my eyes – they cut down stunning old trees, put in luxury villas and apartments, and raid the local wells for water (delivered by a tanker). Avoid them, please.
  • Photograph people and their homes without permission, especially in Panjim. Fontainhas, Panjim’s charming Latin quarters, has become overrun by impolite tourists climbing into people’s yards, going uninvited into their homes, peeping in through their windows, and photographing them without permission. It’s sad to see signs all over prohibiting photography, and hearing about the animosity local residents now feel towards tourists.
  • Block the road to take the same photos as everyone else. Goa has plenty of pretty, palm-lined by-lanes, but a stretch of road in Parra – popularized by a Bollywood film – has become full of wannabe influencers and selfie-takers, constantly disrupting the flow of traffic.
  • Leave without trying Goan food. I’ve met so many people who’ve been to Goa but have no idea what Goan food is. Sadly authentic Goan food is not as easy available as it should be, but make the effort to try it at a restaurant like Mum’s Kitchen or Kokni Kanteen. Ideally pick a vegan option, that’s kinder to animals, the planet and our own health.
  • Ignore the locals and their quirks. I love that Goans have a strong collective identity, along with quirks that can only be understood once you get to know atleast a handful of them. Staying with a Goan family at Cancio’s House, attending a Goan-centric gathering at the Museum of Goa, or having a meal with local hosts at Palacio Do Deao are some ways to do that over a short period of time.

I used to swear I would never create itineraries on this blog, but multiple friends have convinced me otherwise. This is my first attempt at creating a meaningful 3 day itinerary for Goa, and through it, I hope you too will be able to experience the art of slowness and contentment in a place I love so much.

What do you love most about Goa, or what are you most looking forward to?

I just left Goa after a period of living there for 3 years with my 2 boys(born in Goa) and husband, and this itinerary just makes me want to go back right away. Sigh! My company has stopped remote work, and I am back to Bangalore. We even saw you having a quiet dinner at Jardin D’ulysse once, but didn’t bother to disturb you. I loved this itinerary. Even after 3 years in Goa, there is so much more to explore. And you are right about the Goan quirks. I especially disliked their trait of burning dried leaves and plastic every evening ritualistically. But I liked them anyway.

This itinerary sounds like the perfect way to experience the laid-back charm of Goa! Three days filled with exploring the picturesque beaches, indulging in delicious Goan cuisine, and soaking in the rich culture and history of this vibrant destination. I especially love the emphasis on a slow, susegad (relaxed) pace, allowing travelers to truly immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility of Goa. Can’t wait to follow this itinerary on my next trip to Goa!

I cherish meaningful travel experiences, therefore I like that the focus is on thoughtful exploration and that you are reminded to enjoy every minute. We appreciate you providing this useful advice on seeing Goa beyond the tourist attractions!

Moreover, it covers the must-visit sights in Goa to make sure you don't miss out on the best places.

Anytime is a good time to visit Goa. Although, that being said, October to April is the dry season which is considered the "on" season. Most tourists visit Goa during the "on" season. In fact, there are lots of events held in Goa during the months of November and December. Some of the events include IFFI (International Film Festival of India), Rider Mania, Sunburn, Serendipity Art Festival and many more.

On the other hand, May to September is the rainy season also said to be the "off season". This is when beach shacks are closed and most places are deserted. This is the time to visit Goa if you want to explore what Goa has to offer beyond the beaches, without the crowds.

Goa is located on the western coast of India, wedged between the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. One can reach Goa from anywhere in India quite easily. Take a look at some of the ways you can reach Goa:

Goa has one international airport located in Dabolim, South Goa . Goa is well connected by direct flights to popular Indian cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi and many others. Moreover, with Goa being one of the most popular destinations in India, it has many flights to and from international destinations as well. There is another airport being constructed in North Goa which will be in operation in a few years.

Margao railway station is the biggest railway station in Goa, located in South Goa. On the other hand, Thivim is the popular station in North Goa. Goa is easily connected to lots of places across India by rail. Visit the IRCTC website to book trains to and from Goa.

Places to Visit in Goa in 3 Days - Goa 3 Day Itinerary:

This 3 day Goa itinerary makes sure that you don't miss out on exploring any part of Goa. It makes you cover all of Goa within  short span of 3 days. Start your holiday at the busy and happening North Goa. There are a lot of beaches, forts and restaurants to keep you busy throughout the day. The next day, head to Panaji, the capital city of Goa, which is full of Portuguese architecture with river views for company. On the third and final day, take a deep breath and relax on a tranquil beach in South Goa. Here's a breakdown of the itinerary for a Goa trip for 3 days:

DAY 1 - NORTH GOA

Places to Visit in North Goa

Reis Magos Fort in North Goa

When it comes to beaches, north Goa is known for Calangute, Baga and Vagator beach. Most lightlife happens around these beaches. However, Baga is the most crowded and touristy beaches among all others in Goa. Calangute and Vagator are much better alternatives. Whereas if you want to experience the hippie side of Goa, head up to Arambol , Ashwem or Madrem beach to get a taste of what hippie beaches in Goa look like.

Other places to visit are the forts, namely, Aguada fort , Chapora fort (where the famous Dil Chahta Hai sequence was shot), Sinquerim beach and fort as well as Reis Magos fort (shown in the picture above).

There are many markets held in North Goa such as the Arpora Saturday night bazaar or the Wednesday flea market in Anjuna.

Where to Eat in North Goa

Places to visit in Goa in 3 days itinerary - North Goa restaurants

There are lots of great restaurants in North Goa. From breakfast food to bohemian vibes, sea views to river views, you'll find it all. Eva Cafe (shown in the picture above) as well as Chef Cantando are my personal favourites in Anjuna. When it comes to fine dining, Old Bombay and The Lazy Goose are top choices. To know more, take a look at the best restaurants in North Goa .

North Goa Beaches

Arambol Beach, North Goa - Things to do - Sunset Dip

While I honestly feel that South Goa has the best beaches, there are a new in North Goa that you cannot skip from your Goa itinerary for 3 days. When you have just three days in Goa, you MUST visit the best of the best. That being said, there are 4 beaches in North Goa that are absolute favorites namely, Arambol, Ashwem, Morjim and Mandrem beaches. They are all nearby so you can cover all of them in one go. I suggest reading this guide to Arambol beach to help plan your visit.

Where to Stay in North Goa

Stay in the greener neighbourhood of Anjuna or Arpora if you're looking for some quiet time in close proximity to cafes. On the other hand, if you want to be in the middle of all the action, head further north towards Calangute .

3 day goa itinerary - how to se the best places to visit in goa in 3 days

Although Goa is most famous for its beaches and nightlife, there is so much more to experience in Goa than just lazing on the beach and partying. If you want to get to know the real Goa this 3 day Goa itinerary will help you to see all the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days.

Explore colourful hippie markets, historic forts and churches, luscious spice plantations, India’s 2nd highest waterfall and the unique mix of Indian and Portuguese heritage. All in just 3 days!

Goa is a larger and more diverse state than most people realise and you could spend weeks soaking up the susegad lifestyle and exploring off beat Goa.

But I know many people only have a short vacation like a weekend or 3 days in Goa. This 3 day Goa itinerary is pretty packed but will show you how to see all the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days.

Anjuna Beach. One of the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days

How to See All the Best Places to Visit in Goa in 3 Days

To make the most of your 3 day Goa itinerary first you’ll need to plan a bit in advance. So first here’s my quick tips on when to visit, how to reach, where to stay and how to get around.

Planning your Goa trip should make sure your holiday goes smoothly and you get to see all the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days.

Best Time to Visit Goa

The best time to visit Goa is the main tourist season which is between November and March  when the weather is sunny, dry and not so humid or hot.

Some people also like the lushness of the monsoon season from June – October, although it’s much quieter and not so many things are open – see here for the pros and cons of visiting Goa in Monsoon

Where to Stay in Goa

Goa is really very diverse and each beach offers a different vibe so it’s worth researching a bit beforehand about the different beaches in Goa before choosing a hotel.

Generally speaking  South Goa is quieter , and mostly the realm of luxury resorts.   North Goa is where most of the action is and where the best parties, nightlife, markets, restaurants and attractions are.

I’ve based this 3 days Goa itinerary in North Goa as the travel distances are shorter so you’ll get to visit more places in a short time.

Candolim Beach is the best option as it’s close to all the action in Baga and Calangute but a bit quieter and more upmarket. It’s also not far from Panjim and the other sights in this itinerary.

Another option is Anjuna Beach and Vagator Beach. While the beaches aren’t so big some of the most happening nightlife spots are nearby and Chapora Fort.

Best Goa Hotels

A more budget friendly, mid range option is the new Blu Resorts. A Mediterranean-style resort just 10 mins from Vagator Beach and the nightlife hotspots. It’s a really cute collection of luxury cottages with open air bathrooms around a swimming pool with plenty of tropical greenery. Book online here

Budget: Pappi Chulos Hostel, Vagator

The hostel has cool pictures and murals, a nice sociable garden area with a bar which means it is easy to make friends with other travellers as well as comfy dorms and communal areas including a kitchen area. It’s become quite a party hostel. Book here.

How to Reach Goa

If you’ve only got 3 days in Goa then make the most of your time and fly into Goa Airport (GOI) I always check Skyscanner to find the best deals. f

You can also reach Goa by train to Thivim for North Goa or Margao (Madgoan) for South Goa or by bus from many places in India especially Mumbai and Bangalore. For this itinerary it would be best to get a bus to Mapusa.

How to Get Around Goa

Public transport isn’t great in Goa and taxis are expensive (there’s still no Uber here) The best way to get around and make the most of your 3 days in Goa is by scooter, motorbike or car. Your hotel should be able to help you arrange the rental. Having your own wheels is definitely the best way to get around and explore all the best places to visit in Goa.

The Best 3 Days Goa Itinerary

I’ve tried to pack all the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days into this 3 days Goa itinerary – perfect if you are planning a weekend trip to Goa and want to see all the best beaches, markets, restaurants and parties and much more in a short time.

Day 1 – Welcome to Goa! Relax on the beach and party!

Morjim beach. One of the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days

Reach Goa and get settled into your hotel. Then head out to explore some of Goa’s best beaches and forts.

Baga Beach and Calagute Beach are the most famous and busiest beaches in Goa and good for watersports . But if you fancy something a bit quieter and classier head to Candolim Beach and don’t miss visiting Fort Aguada.

Check out Anjuna and Vagator beaches, these were the original hippie beaches. If it’s a Wednesday check out the colourful Anjuna Flea Market .

Vagator Beach’ s rocky coves are interesting and charming to explore. Also, check out the ruins and views from Chapora Fort made famous after the film Dil Chahta Hai.

Savour your first dip in the warm Arabian sea, feel the sand in your toes and eat a Goan fish curry in one of the beach shacks .

Enjoy a cocktail or cold Kingfisher while you soak up your first Goan sunset – they are pretty spectacular!

Make your first night in Goa special by visiting one of the best restaurants, Thalassa is a lively and fun Greek restaurant with great views over Chapora River and entertainment. It’s one of my all time favourites restaurants in Goa. Make a reservation to get a good table for sunset.

Goa is probably the best place to party in all of India , there’s lots going on every night in season. One of the most popular party places in around Tito’s lane in Baga, also check out Curlies Beach Shack on South Anjuna Beach, Hilltop in Vagator and Club Cubana in Arpora depending on what kind of music you like and what night it is.

Check Whats Up Goa to find out what’s on and check out my list of the best nightclubs and parties in Goa.

Day 2 – Goa Sightseeing – Explore Goa’s history, culture and nature spots

The church of our lady of the immaculate conception in Panjim is one of the best places to visit in goa

A holiday in Goa has much more to offer than just beaches. Prise yourself away from the beach and hire a driver or take a day trip for a fascinating day exploring more of Goa’s nature, culture and history.

Stop by Goa’s capital, Panaji , check out the stunning Church of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and take a heritage walking tour through the colourful Portuguese architecture around Fontainhas – the old Latin Quarter.

If you’re into history then you can’t miss the impressive, UNESCO listed Portuguese churches of Old Goa including the famous Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral . Take a guided walking tour to learn more about Goa’s history and bring the churches to life.

swimming in Dudhsagar waterfall

Carry on heading out inland and into the jungle for a refreshing swim in Dudhsagar waterfall and visit a spice plantation .

Most of the Spice Plantations include a Goan buffet lunch in the entrance price or Panjim has some great restaurants, Try  Mum’s Kitchen  – famous for Goan food or popular  Hotel Venite.

If you’ve only got 3 days in Goa you’ll be able to see more by taking a tour. You can book the best Goa day tours online with Viator . Nature lovers will like this tour to Dudhsagar waterfalls and spice plantations.

History and culture lovers would enjoy this private Goa sightseeing tour which visits the Old Goa churches, the spice plantation tour and lunch at Sahakari Spice Farm and the historic Portuguese quarters of Panjim. You’ll finish off an amazing day watching the sunset on Miramar Beach before being dropped back at your hotel.

Apora saturday night market is one of the best places to visit in goa in 3 days or a weekend

If you’re coming to Goa for the weekend then don’t miss the Saturday Night Market at Arpora .

This huge market situated between Anjuna and Baga is the best place to shop for souvenirs, clothes, handicrafts, sarongs. There are many Indian sellers and also some foreigners and hippies who sell unique handmade clothes, jewellery and other things.

The night market is also a bit of a party as there is a bar, many food stalls, live bands and music that goes into the early hours of Sunday morning. Don’t miss it!

Day 3 – Explore More Beaches

Ashvem beach is one of the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days

There are so many beaches you can explore on a 3 day Goa trip! Get on the bike or hire a Jeep/Thar, feel the wind through your hair and soak in the gorgeous countryside; green paddy fields, towering palm trees, white washed Portuguese churches and colourful Goan villages while you explore further up the coast.

Enjoy the drive further north and check out quiet  Morjim Beach , the home of rare Olive Ridley turtles, the wide, empty sands of  Mandrem  and the hip  Ashwem.

Eat at La Plage in Ashvem (one of the best restaurants in all of Goa right on the beach) or try  Sublime  in Morjim and  Café NU in Mandrem

Arambol beach is one of the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days

And don’t miss hippy  Arambol , head over the cliffs at the North end of the beach and discover Kalacha Beach with it’s cute sweet water lake . You can even try paragliding here.

Try to be in Arambol for sunset  as each night hippies, backpackers and long stayers set up a cute little sunset hippy market along the beach and you’ll see all kinds of weird and wonderful people practising yoga, meditation, fire dancing or juggling and the  drum circle  that Arambol is famous for.

If it’s a Sunday and you’re into Psytrance don’t miss the epic Hilltop Sunday Psytrance parties in Vagator.

So that’s my suggestion for a 3 day Goa itinerary that allows you see all the best places to visit in Goa in 3 days. I hope it helps you plan your Goa trip.

Your holiday will be pretty action packed with this itinerary but there’s so much to do in Goa and this is about as much you can realistically pack into 3 days in Goa.

A Quick 5 Day Goa Itinerary

If you have 5 days in Goa that would be even better. You could spend the first 2 days visiting the beaches of North Goa and partying.

Then head to Panjim and spend the next 2 days exploring the city, Old Goa, the spice plantations, temples, waterfalls and wildlife sanctuaries.

Finish off your 5 day Goa itinerary relaxing on the chilled out beaches of South Goa like Palolem – the most beautiful beach in all of Goa.

3 Days Goa Itinerary: A Perfect Plan for Sightseeing

Budget Hotels > Travel Blog > Tours & Itineraries > 3 Days Goa Itinerary: A Perfect Plan for Sightseeing

No wonder Goa tops the list of best holiday destinations in India. The sun, sand and the sea together with the party hotspots in the north and the serenity down south make it an irresistible combo of fun and leisure. But scenic beaches and eccentric nightlife are not the only attractions that await you in Goa. From exploring ancient temples and churches, age-old forts and pretty Portuguese villages to captivating sunsets, flea markets, exciting water sports and a night of gambling at the casino, there’s a lot more to experience in this beach paradise.

With so much to see and do, even a week’s time might seem less to explore this beautiful state. But if you can’t accommodate such a long trip, choose a Goa itinerary for 3 days.

  • By road : Approx. 45 minutes’ drive

Reach the fort via the 4 km-long road from Sinquerim Beach or take the shorter 2 km-long foot path; however, do note that it is a steep climb. But watching the sun setting on the horizon from atop this fort would be a memory that will be etched in your mind forever.

Places to Visit in North Goa in 3 days: Incredible North Goa Itinerary (2023)

Looking for the best places to visit in North Goa in 3 days? Well, you’ve made your way to the best article on this topic!

The list of best places to visit in North Goa that I am about to share with you will have you covered for a perfect 3-day trip to North Goa. It will be the only list you need to use when planning your trip to North Goa.

But to summarise it, if you are looking for the best places to visit in North Goa for 3 days, you should spend your first day visiting beaches and forts near Candolim, Baga and Vagator, spend your second day visiting places in Old Goa and Panjim and spend your third day visiting beaches further north of Vagator. You can easily pick from the list of tourist places given below. I have personally visited all the places in Goa that I have enlisted and have presented all the information for you in such a way that you will know exactly which place is worth your time and what to expect at that place.

Places to Visit in North Goa in 3 days

But before we get started with building a Goa itinerary of places to see in North Goa, here are a few travel basics:

When should you visit North Goa?

If you want the best weather and coolest vibe, you must visit Goa between November and February. All the shacks, restaurants, hotels and homestays are functioning in full swing, and you won’t encounter any roadblocks during this time. (Please check the latest Goa travel guidelines before planning a trip)

However, if you hate travelling in the peak touristy season and want to avoid the crowds, you must visit Goa during the rainy season. Goa’s natural beauty gets highly accentuated during the rains, and it’s the perfect time for a true nature-lover to explore Goa. The downside, however, is that you will have to cover fewer places, the beach shacks will mostly be shut, and Goa would hardly be the buzzing Goa you may have seen in travel videos and pictures.

Where should you stay in North Goa?

North Goa is full of properties suitable for all budgets and travellers.

Some areas that make for an ideal base are:

Candolim : A town-like area in North Goa that features high-end hotel properties to simple 2-3 star hotels. It is one of the best areas to stay in Goa with family or when travelling as a couple. ( see best-rated accommodation here )

Calangute/Baga : If you are on a budget and do not mind being surrounded by hordes of crowds, you should opt for a property in Calangute or Baga. It is also an ideal base for party animals. ( see best-rated accommodation here )

Anjuna/Vagator: Anjuna and Vagator are relatively quieter areas in the touristy side of North Goa and feature some of the best homestays, villas as well as hostels. If you want to be close to the main tourist attractions but slightly away from the insane crowds, staying in Anjuna or Vagator would make a lot of sense. ( see best-rated accommodation here )

Morjim/Mandrem/Ashwem/Arambol: These four beaches are located much further away from most mainstream tourist places to visit in North Goa. But all the four beaches are spectacular. Ashwem and Arambol, in particular, are hubs of the hippie culture. ( See best-rated accommodation in Ashwem here ) Morjim is also the preferred base of most international tourists interested in spending a quiet vacation with their family or spouse. ( see best-rated accommodation in Morjim here )

The Best Places to visit in North Goa in 3 days (2023)

Day 1: touristy north goa.

Touristy North Goa is the popular side of North Goa. It covers the area between Candolim and Vagator. Ideally, this is the area in which you should spend your first full day in North Goa.

For Day 1, choose from the following places to roam in North Goa based on your travel type and taste.

Fort Aguada

goa places to visit in 3 days

Aguada Fort is situated in Candolim and is a great place to experience the Portuguese influence on Goa. Fort Aguada was the largest freshwater reserve in Asia, and all Portuguese ships travelling to the east would stop here to refill their water reserves. The fort itself is majestic and makes for a great outing.

However, it is also true that the fort is not too well-maintained, and there aren’t many guides in this area who will help you understand its significance. That said, if it’s your first visit to Goa, you must visit Fort Aguada.

Aguada Jail

goa places to visit in 3 days

The Aguada Jail has recently opened up for tourists.

Aguada Jail is located a short distance away from Fort Aguada, and a visit to the jail allows excellent insight into the colonial and post-colonial struggles of Goa. If you want to skip the jail, you can simply stand outside the entrance for some terrific panoramic shots.

Lower Fort Aguada

goa places to visit in 3 days

This one is my personal favourite location in North Goa. The lower fort overlooks the Sinquerim beach and presents the most breathtaking views of the North Goan coastline. It’s a terrific place to explore the rich history of Goa while also being surrounded by the best that Goa has to offer. Enjoy some lovely nariyal pani or nimbu sharbat at the entrance and then spend a memorable time with your partner or family here.

Sinquerim Beach

goa places to visit in 3 days

Out of all the places to visit in North Goa for watersports, this one tops my list!

The Sinquerim Beach, located right under Lower Fort Aguada, has a coastline whose pictures you can use to trick people into believing you went to Europe! And that’s why zooming on a jet ski or parasailing here offers the best views.

There are also far many watersport vendors here to choose from than at most other beaches. Which means? You can take haggling to a whole other level!

Cola beach is an introverted person’s bae . You are partially right if you think North Goa beaches are loud and disgusting. But you aren’t entirely right, because there are some pristine beauties like Cola Beach that can pamper you with that much-needed solace and serenity that you seek from a beach vacation.

goa places to visit in 3 days

If it’s not your first visit to Goa or if you are in a mood to see the slightly unseen side of Goa, you should visit Reis Magos. It overlooks the Mandovi river, facing Panjim.

Calangute/Baga beach

goa places to visit in 3 days

In all honesty, these places don’t really deserve a visit unless you are a hardcore party animal who loves to let the hair loose under harsh fluorescent lights, deafening music and wild crowds.

That’s also why, during the day, these beaches are pretty much a copy of any crowded beach in Mumbai. But at night, they transform themselves into a few kilometres line of open-air discotheques.

It is also in this area that you will find the best nightclubs like Tito’s, SinQ and Hammerz. The stretch of road outside these beaches is also a street shopper’s paradise From clothes, jewellery, bags, cashews, musical instruments… you’ll find it all here!

Check out my readymade Goa travel plan – it contains a day-wise itinerary to suit your travel type.

Anjuna Beach

If you are an Indian, I am sure you’ve watched ‘Tanha Tanha’ from Rangeela. Now apart from appreciating Urmila’s beauty in that song, I am sure you’ve also wondered which rocky beach she is dancing at. The answer to that question is Anjuna!

Anjuna is located right next to Baga and yet looks so much different thanks to its rocky coastline. Go fire up your Instagram (or Facebook or Whatsapp) with some fiery portraits of you on these rocks. (but don’t carelessly fall off a cliff and drown)

Vagator Beach

goa places to visit in 3 days

Further north from Anjuna is Vagator Beach. Technically, the beach is divided into two sections: the Big Vagator Beach and the Small Vagator Beach ( aka Ozran beach) But as a tourist, all that you need to care about is the sunset view from this beach. Technically, sunsets from most beaches in Goa are a visual treat. Yet, this beach enjoys more popularity because of the rich backdrop of stunning red cliffs, a giant Chapora fort and large rocky formations inside the waters.

Before 2020, this beach was also a huge party hub. But today, with lesser international tourist inflow, this lush beach is crawling upwards in my list of top places to visit in North Goa

Chapora Fort ( aka Dil Chahta Hai fort)

goa places to visit in 3 days

Chapora Fort is famous because it’s the place where that iconic scene from the movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was shot and because the sunset views from here are truly special.

You sit right on top of the fort, overlooking the Vagator beach, as the sun silently makes its way into the water casting the perfect twilight over all of Goa. And you? You enjoy a special balcony view of this majestic natural phenomenon.

By the way, before we move on to the next day, if you’re tired of reading, you can watch our latest 3 days North Goa Vlog below for ideas on how to spend 3 days in North Goa.

Day 2: Panjim/Old Goa

Today, it’s time to visit the Goan capital Panjim as well as its erstwhile capital Goa Velha or Old Goa. In fact, it is also the day to visit places in North Goa other than beaches.

You can visit all or a few of the places from Old Goa and Panjim from the list below:

Basilica of Bom Jesus

goa places to visit in 3 days

This is the most iconic place among all churches and cathedrals in Goa. This is because the place holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xaviers – the saint who brought Christianity to Goa in the 17th century. If you are someone who understands and appreciates architectural nuances, the baroque-styled church will definitely appeal to you.

But, mind you, on most touristic days (like long weekends and public holidays), you should expect to stand in a long queue to get inside. Factor an extra 30 minutes for this.

Se Cathedral/Church of St Francis of Assisi

goa places to visit in 3 days

Yet another magnificent cathedral, this cathedral is a stone’s throw away from Basilica of Bom Jesus. The Se Cathedral was built to mark the victory of Afonso de Albuquerque over the Muslim army. The Cathedral and the adjoining Church of St. Francis of Assisi are architecturally beautiful monuments. They also give a deep insight into the growth of Christianity in Goa.

Mangueshi Temple

Located about a 15-20 minute drive away from the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Mangueshi Temple is an important place of worship for the Gaud Saraswats. The temple exudes a calming vibe and if you like visiting religious places, a visit to the Mangueshi Temple would be a rewarding experience for you.

But note that it is slightly farther away from Panjim

Fountainhas

goa places to visit in 3 days

This quarter in Panjim has gained massive popularity in recent times thanks to its Instagrammable value. It is a busy quarter with small lanes lined with the prettiest, colourful houses that are a true living example of the Portuguese architectural influence on Goa.

You will find many young creators clicking pictures here through the day. So if you want the perfect shot for your gram, be willing to wait patiently for that moment when traffic and crowds clear!

Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church

Every Bollywood buff has seen this church. From Simmba, Singham, Josh, Aashiqui 2 or even Kabhi Ha Kabhi Naa, this church has been a movie maker’s delight for ages. That’s also why it enjoy so much popularity amongst tourists visiting Goa.

It’s just a couple of minutes away from Fountainhas. Its architectural beauty never fails to impress and even the cold-hearted, artistically non-inclined tend to pull out their cameras to capture its beauty.

Dona Paula Jetty

This place is not a beach and yet is one of the best places to take in the views of the Arabian Sea. The benches at the jetty add to its relaxing vibe and you can just pass time observing the sushegaat lifestyle of Goa while also briefly participating in it.

The Dona Paula has also been featured in many Bollywood movies, the most important one among them being, Singham. Go there to spend some leisurely time with your peeps!

Miramar Beach

Miramar Beach to Goans is like the Chowpatty to Mumbaikars. It probably has the least touristy vibe as its primary visitors are local Goans who come here to meet their friends for a leisurely morning or evening walk.

As mundane and dull as this visual may seem to you, the beach itself is beautiful with palm trees skirting its sands. It is one of the most family-friendly beaches in all of Goa.

Day 3: Travel Further North

Today it’s time to travel further north from Vagator to explore the areas that regular tourists hardly ever visit. But in my opinion, this area is so beautiful that it deserves a separate Goa trip altogether.

Pick from some of the best beaches in Goa listed below

Morjim Beach

There is a creek that separates the Vagator/Anjuna/Baga/Calangute side of North Goa from the Morjim side of North Goa.

Morjim Beach is easily the best place to visit in North Goa if you want to experience Goa’s raw beauty.

It is a rare white sand beach, lined with lush green trees and visited by cute turtles in the evening. You will not find more than a few dozen people on the beach if you were to visit it on a weekday. That’s how quiet and beautiful the beach is. But the good news is that it still has plenty of shacks to cater to its visitors. It also has a turtle nesting site that further accentuates its touristic value.

Mandrem Beach

This beach which is Morjim’s neighbour is mostly deserted even on long weekends and hence is one of the best beaches to visit in North Goa. There are a few cute cafés and shacks outside the beach. It is also one of the best places to visit in North Goa with family, especially when you want to set up your own sweet picnic and have a gala time with kids!

Ashwem Beach

goa places to visit in 3 days

I am going to award this beach the title of the best beach in Goa. The sand is soft and clean. The waters are relatively calm and the beach is a great place to swim. Plus, along the northern end of the beach, you will find a small creek that’s also cool enough for a quick dip.

The surrounding area has some great cafés for working people as well as the best places to stay in North Goa (near the beach). For workations and some quiet me-time, it’s best to base yourself in Ashwem.

Arambol Beach

goa places to visit in 3 days

Arambol, a few years ago, was rarely visited by locals. It was a home of hippies. But now, it presents the perfect balance of Goa’s natural delights and its crazy touristic vibes. The place comes alive in the evenings with its drum circles. Even during the day, loud music is often blaring out of its shacks while many Russian tourists are moving to some trance music. It is a great place to watch Goa come alive without actually having to mingle amongst sweaty crowds. (like those found in Baga and Calangute)

Best Places to eat in North Goa

Here are some top recommendations of places you should eat at on your trip to North Goa:

Ritz Classic, Panjim : Easily the best seafood restaurant in Goa

Fat Fish, Calangute: Excellent seafood and terrific service

Britto’s, Baga : The best restaurant for tasting authentic Goan cuisine

Vinayak, Assagaon : Yummy seafood thali

(All the above restaurants also serve good vegetarian food)

Eva cafe, Anjuna : Great young vibe and excellent beach and sunset views

Morgan’s Place, Anjuna : Right next to Eva, less crowded and the upper deck provides the best sunset view, ever.

Café Chocolatti, Candolim : Yummy breakfast, fresh bread and delicious beverages

Café Candolim, Candolim : Cutest decor and cleanest toilets

Tomato’s Candolim : Live music in the evening, good food.

Prana Café, Ashwem : Delicious continental food

Any roadside vendor selling Ross Omelette or Bhaji Pav : Best, most-filling local meals on a budget

Bonus suggestions:

The famous road featured in the movie ‘Dear Zindagi’ is just about 15 minutes away from Baga. And it truly is worth a visit. There are very few roads that are so narrow, straight and lined with coconut trees on both sides. So if you like visiting filming locations that are so pretty that they can easily light up your Instagram, do visit this place.

Divar Island/Chorao Island

A short boat-ride away from Panjim lie the Divar Island and Chorao Island. You can transport your vehicle too to these islands and spend a quiet time away from the hustle-bustle of mainland Goa. Enjoy boat rides, drink feni and visit dilapidated monuments.

By the way, Chorao is also the home of Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and many nature-lovers pay a visit to this place first thing in the morning.

How to make a Goa itinerary that works for you?

Remember, that it will be physically impossible for you to visit all the places listed above. But you can easily pick a few based on your taste and travel style.

However, if you want the perfect Goa travel plan that suits your budget and travel style and one which comes with hotel and restaurant suggestions plus a premade interactive map, just for you: check out our unique offering Goa: Planned for You here.

Here is a list of our favorite travel resources- the ones that I absolutely swear by when planning almost every trip. Go through this list to plan a hassle-free trip and save a lot of money!

Flight Booking: Check the availability of tickets, the best time to fly, and the cheapest fares on Skyscanner . You may also find a cheap flight via CheapOair

Accommodation: I absolutely love booking through Agoda . In most countries and particularly in Asia, I often find the best fares on Agoda. But I also love the no prepayment and no cancellation fee policy of Booking.com . For cheap accommodations and hostels, nothing beats Hostelworld .

Car Rentals: You may find and rent an appropriate car via RentalCars . It’s hassle-free and reliable.

Guided Tours: I absolutely love GetYourGuide for local sightseeing tours, walking tours, history tours, and food tours. The booking process is seamless, and the tours are super affordable. But in Asian countries, I prefer Viator or Klook for their affordably priced tours.

BEST Places to Visit in Goa in 3 Days

Home » Asia

I hope you’re reading this because you’re planning a trip to Goa ! It’s such a fantastic place to visit. Although I recommend coming longer than the 3 days mentioned in this title, often readers email who mention they have that amount of time therefore I wanted to put together a basic 3 day Goa itinerary and show you the top places to visit in Goa in 3 days.

It seems to be a question I am asked a lot! Perhaps, I’ll add a 5 day itinerary down the road.

goa places to visit in 3 days

Tips for Planning Your Trip to Goa

This first things you have to decide about Goa are:

  • How to get here
  • When to come
  • Where to stay
  • How to get around

How to Get to Goa

You can fly into the only airport (GOI) or you can take a train into Thvim or Margao stations, or a bus straight into the town you want to be in.

When to Come

The best time to come is October through March but if you want to come in monsoon, here is an article on what to expect in Goa’s monsoon .

How to Get Around

You’ll need to decide if you want to rent a car or bike. You can alternatively ask your hotel for a taxi drivers’ number.

Where to Stay in Goa

You’ll want to choose between North or South Goa. It just depends on what you want. If you’re looking for a busier scene, try the north, and if you’re looking to relax, try the south. Read these posts to help you decide where to go and the best place to stay in Goa:

  • Ask Me Anything: Should I go to North or South Goa?
  • What’s the Best Place to Stay in Goa? [My Absolute Favorites]

The BEST Places to Visit in Goa in 3 Days

For this itinerary, I’m going to focus on  Anjuna  and  Vagator in North Goa since they’re the most common choice travelers make. I’ll also be focusing on peak-season since that’s, of course, the popular time frame when everything is open!

Places You’ll Visit in Goa on Day 1:

  • Vagator Beach

Check in to your hotel

First things first, check in to your hotel! There are some seriously kickass places to stay in Goa. While you’ll want to look into places in  Anjuna and  Vagator , if you have a car, you can also stay in:

If you want to splurge, check out my favorite 5-star hotels in Goa , and if you’re on a shoestring budget, check out my post on the cheapest hostels and guesthouses in Goa .

Relax in Vagator Beach

After checking in you’ll want to see the beach. For day one, I recommend heading to Vagator Beach to eat lunch and have a day in the sun. You can grab nice pizzas at the beach shack Antares or you can get some Goan curry at Shiva Place . For more food options, head down to the beach to the right for  Sports Bar . You can also surf at this beach early in the morning.

goa places to visit in 3 days

Let yourself be pampered on the beach by the girls: getting threaded, massages, and buying sarongs when they come around to your beach chairs.

Dinner in Anjuna

After the beach and showering up for dinner, you could enjoy pre-dinner drinks at the beer garden, Zorba , in Anjuna then head to a perfect Goan dinner of rava fish or Indian tandoori at Anand Bar which is near the Bobby bar intersection on the way to Vagator.

Party in Goa

After dinner you can party! Goa is great for nightlife, so I have a few posts to help you figure out where to go for what!

Places You’ll Visit in Goa on Day 2:

Breakfast in vagator.

Don’t waste the day being hung over! Head to  Vagator Beach  for breakfast.

How to Travel Calmer and Enjoy the Moment

Sightseeing in Goa

You can skip the beach today to do the tourist things. There isn’t much for tourists in Goa because it’s a “chill out” place. You can go to Ponda to the spi ce plantation   (learn about spices, see the elephants, eat lunch here) which is just near Panjim. This  means you can see Old Goa  (Portuguese influence, old churches) in the same trip. It’s about 1 hour from Anjuna and will cost you about 2,500 Rs. You can wander Panjim and do some shopping in the old Portuguese lanes.

Places to visit in Goa in 3 days

Vagator Beach for Dinner

Head back to your hotel to freshen up for dinner then pick from this list of the top restaurants in Goa (all my favorites). I recommend Thalassa if you can get there by sunset. It’s on Vagator cliff and has the best sunset view in Goa plus the vibe usually leads to a fun night out after.

Places You’ll Visit in Goa on Day 3:

  • Anjuna Beach

Shopping and Sunbathing in Ashwem

If you want to see a new beach, I recommend going North about 20 minutes to Ashwem, which is a lovely beach. You can have lunch at La Plage , a very popular French restaurant. Then catch some rays. There is great shopping on this side of town. Check out my shopping guide to Ashwem to see the exact shops.

goa places to visit in 3 days

OR Shopping in Anjuna/Vagator

If you decide to stay in Anjuna/Vagator area you can still do some shopping. I wrote a guide to shopping in Goa . You’ll want to start at Tia’s Shop outside her mum’s restaurant Natti’s Naturals (try the colorful salad, I don’t know what it’s called!). Tia carries all the best brands in Goa plus her own brand which is the cutest and I wear all the time.

Chill Out at Anjuna Beach

You can try Anjuna Beach if you were at Vagator the first day. Anjuna is chilled out and the famous beach from the party days. You can have a beer at Curlies to see the vibe. They do a good fish curry there as well. If you’re lucky, you’ll be in Goa on a Wednesday and can go to the Anjuna Flea market which is just on the edge of the beach.

10 Packing Items Worth Splurging On

More to Do in Goa

If you want to do some more things before your last dinner and night out, you can check out this list of 50 things to do in Goa . If you weren’t lucky to be here on a Wednesday, perhaps it’s a Saturday and in that case you can visit the Saturday Night Market in Arpora . It’s my favorite market and you can eat dinner there. They have loads of options like rotisserie chicken, authentic pizza, Thai food, Greek gyros, dosas, curries, and Tandoori.. plus lots more. The shopping here is fabulous and there are two little “clubs” in the market.

Final Notes on this Goa Itinerary for 3 Days

So, that’s really about all you can fit in this 3 day Goa itinerary. I kind of picked my favorites beaches and restaurants. I couldn’t list the bars as you really need to check each day to see what’s happening. It’s not fun to show up at an empty bar! I wrote a post answering a few FAQs about Goa   and I wrote my top tips for Goa   where I talk more about transportation.

There are a few things I didn’t mention that are great to do in Goa but 3 days most likely is not enough time, unless you really prioritized these things: volunteering with animals and going to the secret beach .

If you take some time to read more of my articles on Goa you will see there are SO many fabulous options of things to do, that you might end up extending your time in Goa to a longer stay!

Looks like an amazing place to visit, glad you had a great time!

I just got back from Goa on Saturday, April 2, 2016. I stayed in Manderm Beach. I have many regrets about traveling to Goa and I”m finding it very difficult to focus on the positives. I find your information misleading for future travelers. You failed to mention the TRASH all over the place. The SHANTIES right next to the places you discuss, the lack of safety when traveling the roads by any means. I saw motorbike accidents and it made me worried for all the babies and children on motorbikes and scooters without helmets. The dogs barking all through the night. Dogs are everywhere and I like dogs but you can’t sleep because they bark all night long. The conditions of restaurants, bathrooms, and most places are not sanitary. The sand has sand flies/fleas that leave bites all over your legs and feet. There is ample sunshine, warm sea breezes, and a warm sea to swim in. Food and drink are cheap but I would prefer paying more for cleaner conditions. I went to yoga three times at Ashiyana and the instructors were wonderful but the same as any other place in India it was not clean. The yoga mats were filthy and not wiped down after class. Cleanliness is not a priority in Goa India and I like things clean and sanitary. If you like the same then traveling to Goa is not for you.

' src=

Hi Lu, it’s a shame you had such a bad time. Mandrem is one of the nicest beaches. In my “this is india” series I share A LOT about the things in India which are upsetting like slums, bike accidents (I lost a very good friend in one), kids without helmets, trash, and issues with stray dogs – Goa may be a cool beach town but it’s still India, and unfortunately India isn’t for everyone.

' src=

Jesus Christ why do you even travel Lu? How devoid of any form of common sense are you that you would travel to somewhere like India if you like things ‘clean and sanitary.’ What the hell did you expect? Maybe next time take a weekend away instead and stay in a 5-star hotel where you can be as anal retentive and boring as you please.

I am with you here !!

Hi Rachel, a friend and I are planning a two week trip to India in Oct/Nov to celebrate her 50th birthday. We’d love to end off our time relaxing in Goa, but this would be over Diwali. We’d really like to enjoy the festivities & were wondering if there would be lots happening in this part of the world, or if we’d be better off being in a bigger city for these celebrations. Your advice and any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Regards Alison

Diwali is a lot different in Goa and not as big as the cities – but I don’t know if you’d like the big city diwali! it’s full of smoke from firecracks and fireworks and with the haze already my friends who live in mumbai and delhi all want to leave at these times as it’s hard to breathe, traffic is crazy, and the men get very drunk

Thanks! Sounds like we’d definitely be better off in Goa over that time. Any specific recommendations for where we should stay to enjoy the festivities?

The nasty trash JUST piled up the last 3 months cuz of all the Indian tourists!!!! It is Not from Anyone in Goa! Everyone knows how to recycle and burn their trash and every season these Bombay and Delhi people move on and throw all their shit out the window at night and into everyone’s yards! They have no consideration and I don’t even like when Rachel’s blog tells of our good spots cuz these fools come here to have their first beer or celebrate their affairs with their secret man pal and throw the glass all down the stairs, where we park, and walking barefoot in the sand! We need more euro and out of India tourists, not out of state visitors who cause rude destruction. And the dog packs are fun. You have to train them and they’re all good.

P.s Iam an ocd clean freak and I can’t believe I’m able to live in Goa lol. It’s called loving the “rustic” life and being one with the natural elements. There are sand fleas everywhere. Just use Dr. Bronners soap and take a proper shower scrub and they won’t follow you to bed. When I first came here, I was surprised how every resturant has a sink to wash in, in India. It is not a barbaric place. It’s just natural! Sometimes I joke about wishing I had my uv air filter from Costco, instead of using a fan at night, but India hasn’t smothered mother earth’s natural flaws. It’s a good thing. That’s why they stay unique.

The dogs can be fun :) we’ve taken in two (shanti and omni) & they are family now! omni is a bit dense haha but shanti is clever :) you’re right about the litter. it’s a real shame.

' src=

Now I am excited to visit any of these places.. i really enjoy your post. thanks!

' src=

Rachel, I have been following your blog for years, but have never written (that I remember!). Thanks to your detailed information and enthusiasm for India, we made this amazing country a part of our year trip around the world. I am traveling with my husband and 2 kids (ages 8 & 10). We were in India from late October ’15 through late January ’16, and constantly used your blog as a guide for great places to experience in Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa (of course!). I’ve tried to chronicle our unique travel experiences as a family, on our own blog (also inspired by your website). I wanted to sincerely thank you for all of your hard work, and wish you continued success.

That’s awesome – I’m happy that my blog helped you in your trip & it’s great that you’ve started one of your own about your time in India :D

' src=

Wow Rachel.. absolutely loved your blog! Having been to a few myself, your recommendations are spot on! Wouldn’t change a thing in your itinerary. Brilliant.

' src=

I’ll try to incorporate to my travel plan to Goa. Thank you Rachel :D

' src=

Hey Rachel as you mentioned in your article i find it really nice but in comments your comments are horrible dear…India is not that bad. I just want to ask you question

-> Other places in the world are free from accidents? (people use helmet in goa)

-> Other countries dogs didn’t harm anyone? ( i think they won’t harm you until you disturb them)

-> All beaches of world are free from sand flies/fleas?

-> And goa is a very small territory of india… Goa is not high tech city. ( Goa have good restaurant, cafes and bars too it’s all about where you are spending your money)

I think you need to read them again – Those are not my comments they are a reader’s comments to a post I wrote about how great Goa is … in my comments I say I have adopted stray dogs, love the beach, and the whole article is about good restaurants cafes and bars! literally don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Thanks for your recommendations ! I am going on a 3 day week end in October to celebrate a friend’s birthday, so I will try to to include some of your suggestion in the planning ! One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to get there !

awesome I hope you have the best time! if you want more tips, I just released an ebook about Goa but for just three days, this blog post is probably all you need to know! have fun!

' src=

Hello Rachel,

Thanks for the information, I have never been to Vagator as of now, planning in few weeks though. I am not sure if you mentioned about the scam for liquor anywhere on your website or any other blog.

The liquor is surely cheap and the vendor/ retailers never provide enough information about travelling with liquor. It is banned to take outside goa and they inform the cops who confiscate it on the border, charge you heavily and send half of it back to the vendor/ retailer.

In my opinion readers could ask for the authentic license on the shop as well for very cheap that could be shown on the border to have a hassle free exit.

Goa is well connected to other parts of the country by a network of rail, road, and air. Upon your arrival at Goa airport or railway station, take a taxi or avail other public modes of transportation to reach your hotel. The best mode to go around in Goa is by renting a bike or scooter. You can start exploring from the south and eventually head towards north. South Goa is comparatively quieter than North Goa. Some of the popular beaches here are Colva, Agoda, Varca, and Benaulim. These beaches are home to some amazing shacks, discos and resorts, and ideal for honeymoon couples and those who want to spend some alone time away from the crowd. End the day with dinner at Curly’s or Mambos.

There are century old cathedrals such as Basilica of Bom Jesus and Chapel of St. Francis Xavier. Apart from the churches, there are some famous forts from the Portuguese era. One of them is Fort Aguada that has been majorly converted into a luxury hotel. Spend your day exploring the ancient architecture and Portuguese colonies or Fountainhas areas of Goa. Passing through the streets of brightly colored houses, makes you gaze in wonder.  After devouring on sumptuous Goan food from any of the famous restaurant Gene or Ritz, head to Dona Paula to experience the sunset.
